Anita (00:00):
Hey sister, welcome to
the Power on Plants podcast.
Are you tired of staring intothe fridge wondering what to eat
so you can just feel better?
Do you want to avoid spendinghours in the kitchen making
complicated meals in the name ofhealth?
Would you love to leave fatiguebehind and finally have the
energy to do all the things youwant to do?
Hi, we're Jared and AnitaRoussel Christ followers,
(00:23):
healthcare professionals, parents of four and big fans of
great tasting food.
We, too, tried exercising more, eating natural and clean foods,
but we still found ourselvesstruggling with what we thought
were changes that come with ageor bad genes, and we weren't
finding answers the traditionalroute.
So we dug into the research andcreated our secret nutritional
(00:44):
weapon sustainable plant-basedliving.
The truth is, you can eat morewhole plant foods and it's not
hard.
You just need the way.
That's realistic and deliciousso you never feel deprived.
If you're ready to enjoy yourmeals, no longer be held back by
your health struggles andactively live your life, then
you're in the right place.
(01:05):
So grab your favoriteplant-based cup of happy pop in
those earbuds and let's getstarted.
Today, jared and I want to sharewith you something that we've
been talking about a lot latelybecause it blends into things
that we see with our patientsand our clients on a regular
basis, and it's what I like tocall try it before you buy it or
maybe even better yet, try itso you don't miss out when
(01:27):
you're trying to decide how toget healthy.
This is a strategy that canmake all the difference for you.
Jared, how do you think thisapplies when you are seeing
patients?
What do you see?
When you bring up whole food,plant-based?
Because I know a lot of timesthey don't even understand that
they can eat whole plant foodsand get the healing that they
(01:49):
need.
They don't understand thatthere's even an option for them.
So the first struggle and hurdleyou have to get through with
them is saying, hey, yes, youhave this disease, yes, you're
on this medication, but what if?
I know you take them to?
What if a lot?
But what if you didn't have tohave that thing that you've been
told you'll have forever,forever?
What if you didn't have to haveit forever?
(02:09):
What if it could actually goaway?
So the first thing is we haveto get in our mind hey, yeah,
there are answers.
The research is there.
I know people who've beenthrough this, who've reversed a
ton of things by eating thesedelicious foods that God's given
us.
Jarrod (02:24):
So the experience is
there.
Anita (02:26):
Right and Jared and Anita
see their clients and their
patients reversing high bloodpressure, high cholesterol, type
2 diabetes, autoimmunedisorders.
I mean, I could just go on andon.
So you now have the evidencethat maybe his patients haven't
seen yet because maybe they'renot podcast listeners and they
just don't know.
Jarrod (02:49):
Many of them have not
surprisingly, ever heard of this
, and sometimes it's the patientwith an autoimmune disease or
it might be a family member withan autoimmune disease.
You know, I cannot resist anykind of opening to share this
with patients.
So if we're going through thefamily history and like well,
you know, I've got an aunt withlupus, like well, let me share
something with you.
And sometimes I get a deer in aheadlight response.
(03:09):
Sometimes I hear but what aboutmy protein?
But the other one that I hearso much is, I can't do that.
And then when I probe them,it's because they have such an
animal product heavy diet thatthey don't see that there is any
other way and they don't seethat they could even possibly
enjoy it.
They're just so used to themeat flavor and the greasiness
(03:33):
and the texture and the grillingout and just everything that
encompasses that they can'tconceive a diet of just plants.
Anita (03:42):
And so then, what is that
outflow of that?
The outflow of that is well, ifI can't even conceive in my
mind that it's possible, thenI'm just not willing to try it,
because what would I possiblyeat?
That's the question.
What would I eat?
I mean, you hear that, don'tyou hear that all the time?
Jarrod (03:59):
That and what would I
enjoy?
Anita (04:02):
Oh yeah, that's even
bigger and that's why we're so
big about enjoyment andexcitement.
And this leads us to this tryit before you buy it.
Strategy, again, I think Imight even like better.
That's what I've been callingit up to this point, but I think
I might even like better.
Try it, so you don't miss out, because the big key is, you may
not know how, or you may notthink it could work, or you
(04:22):
can't see how.
You could possibly like a wholefood, plant-based Alfredo, like
you would like the Alfredo fromOlive Garden that you're eating
right now.
But I promise you, I used to beOlive Garden Alfredo's biggest
fan and now I eat our Alfredoand I just I don't miss it at
all because it's cheesy and it'screamy and literally it takes
me five minutes to make it in ablender.
(04:44):
So I'm all about making itquick and easy, because that's
what makes it enjoyable andexciting.
Plus, you get the flavor andthat's what you get to
experience when you try it.
So you don't miss out.
And all the ingredients you canfind at a regular grocery store,
or even have them delivered toyour front door don't you think
part of the problem is thatwe've had some bad experiences,
(05:05):
some bad rennans, like, ifyou're here, you probably
already know that whole foodplant-based could be, or
actually is the answer for you,and so you get that.
But maybe you're just not surehow to make it work, because you
can't see how, when you lovethe tacos and pizza and your
favorite pasta dish like my oldfavorite one from Maggiano's
rigatoni D, things like that howdo you make that work?
(05:28):
Well, I make it now.
That's what I do.
I haven't come out with thatrecipe yet, but I'm going to.
For you guys who are inside ouralumni and have gone through
accelerator, you're going to begetting that recipe in the
future because it's one of myfavorites.
So you learn how do I makethese things in a way that's
simple, enjoyable, but that Istill love the flavor so much so
(05:48):
that I never miss out.
Well, you're only going to knowthat and find those new
favorites and get the recipeupgrade experiences where now
I'm not just eating things Ilove, they're actually loving me
back.
You're only going to have thathappen when you actually try the
things.
You have to try them first.
This is why they're so big atCostco or at the big box stores
(06:12):
on giving you samples.
Think about it.
You walk around every cornerand there's a sample.
Hey, you want to try this?
Hey, come try this.
Some of them now are so goodthey have a song and dance to
get you over to their stand totry their stuff.
I haven't seen that one yet.
Oh, I saw it not too long ago.
Jarrod (06:28):
That's funny.
Anita (06:28):
But this is the thing.
Why are they so adamant aboutdoing this?
Why do companies want you totry it?
The same reason, jared and Iwant you to try a whole food
plant-based, because we knowonce you try it and you like it,
you're going to continue in it.
And we want this for youbecause we know that, we know
that.
We know that you can escapethese things that are holding
you back from your God-givendreams.
(06:48):
God's put these desires in yourheart.
Maybe it's a business that youalready run, but you can't
possibly take it to the nextlevel because you can't think
clearly.
You can't do the things thatyou want to do.
It's just not physicallypossible because you're spending
all your time at the doctor'soffice and at the pharmacy line
and trying to get themedications paid and covered by
(07:09):
your insurance All this insanityand then dealing with the side
effects of the things thatyou're dealing with and then
having to take more medicationsfor those side effects, when all
along there are foods therethat we know, based on research
and by our own experience aswell, with so many of you who
are even listening today, thatyou can get free.
I know a lot of y'all areshouting like try it, just try
(07:30):
it, because you're already onthis journey with us walking and
getting these results simply bylistening to the podcast.
And then you come intoAccelerator and you're one.
This is crazy, this is mindblowing.
I mean Amanda, just the otherday she said Look, this is crazy
.
She said I was told that Iwould have these problems with
my joints forever, that it waschronic, that it would never
(07:50):
reverse, and she's following theaccelerator framework, decided
to go all in and she said Icannot believe how simple this
is.
But not only that.
I'm actually getting to livelife with my family.
This is gold.
Within one week, the joint painwent away.
One week, the joint pain thatshe was going to have
chronically, according to herhealth care provider.
Wrap your mind around it.
(08:11):
And could it be as simple asfinding your new favorites, the
things that you absolutely love, and having the framework to
walk through so that you breakthe mindsets that are holding
you back.
That you've got yourenvironment set up for success
in the way that's simple, andthat you're eating the foods
that are delicious, quick andsatisfying to you and it works
with your schedule.
But it all starts with thetrying, with the sampling.
(08:34):
But I do think a lot of timesthe major problem is that we've
been burned.
We've tried that sample, we'vegone into some kind of vegan
deli and we've tried a hard as abrick brownie.
That's supposed to be oh sogood.
Jarrod (08:47):
And it was disgusting
that, or a well-meaning relative
or maybe even a co-worker thathad something that they thought
was good but their tasteequivalent was that of someone
who might be tone deaf.
Anita (09:00):
Please don't take offense
.
Jarrod (09:01):
Don't take offense, but
sometimes people may eat things
and think, oh, this is great, but it's lacking flavor and
texture.
And you've tried that and thisperson's raving about it.
You think, is there somethingwrong with me, is there
something wrong with this otherperson, or is there just
something wrong with the recipe?
But we get it.
Anita (09:18):
Yeah, you hit the nail on
the head.
Sometimes it's just the recipe.
You just have a bad recipe.
You want to taste and see, you've got to sample it.
That's so important.
Sample one of your old favorites, like, if you just love chili,
find a new plant-based chilirecipe that you absolutely love.
Like, in our cookbooks, weshare our absolute favorite
recipes.
You want to get those and justtry it.
(09:40):
Just think, okay, I'm not sosure, just get one and try it.
Just get one and try it andstart trying things like the
Alfredo sauce and the tomatosoup the creamy tomato soup is
so good.
Or the cheesy veggie chowder itis mind blowing.
Or our brownie recipe it isunlike any other.
If you like drinks, we havethings like the peanut butter
(10:01):
shake or the matcha latte.
I mean, they will blow yourmind.
I have literally had peoplecome into me trying these things
and going there has to be heavycream in this.
Like, I know you don't eatheavy cream, but what in the
world is in this?
It tastes like butter and heavycream and it's just because
we've learned over time how toput these things together and
(10:21):
what we know is that our ceilingcan be your floor when you
start tasting and seeing.
Jarrod (10:27):
So, thinking about the
Costco example, they have
samples for you to try and youtaste it and you see, do you
like it, do you not?
But there have been many timeswhere they've had products that
we didn't even know these thingsexisted and then tried it,
loved it and bought it.
So, like you said, we've usedthe term try it before you buy
it, but really it's try it soyou don't miss out.
(10:50):
We've had some favoriteproducts that we wouldn't have
known they were our favorite ifwe hadn't just taken a moment,
maybe let our defenses down justa little bit, tried it and
thought, oh my goodness, this isso amazing.
Wait a minute, there's no sugar, there's no added salt, there's
none of this in there.
Like, yes, I want not one bag,I'll take three bags please.
Anita (11:10):
So where do you start
Again?
If you like pasta dishes andyou like cheesy dishes, try the
date night fettuccine alfredo.
Now, I don't use a lot of saltand cheese is very salty.
So if you really want it totaste more like what you're used
to and you think it doesn'ttaste quite cheesy enough, you
can add a little bit of miso, white miso, or a little bit of
(11:33):
Himalayan pink salt or sea saltto it.
You're going to love it.
It will blow your mind.
It has blown so many people'sminds.
This is in our original cookbook.
Another one out of the originalcookbook is our banana bread
muffins.
They are absolutely deliciousand so simple to make.
Or a sweet potato bowl.
We have a whole wheat waffle aswell as a gluten-free waffle.
(11:57):
These are great things to tasteand see, because these are
things that you already enjoyeating.
If you like carrot cake, youneed to try the carrot cake gems
.
They're mind-blowing.
And one of my personalfavorites is the peanut butter
cup shake.
I absolutely love that drink.
And then there are all thesauces.
Think about a thousand islanddressing or a ranch sauce or a
(12:18):
hollandaise yolk sauce that youcan put on your tofu scramble,
that it won't just be tofu witha little what Jared calls yellow
or orange on it, like with theturmeric that you put on there.
You're not just going tosprinkle some turmeric onto tofu
and make it taste like eggs.
So this hollandaise sauce iskey.
These are great places to start.
So those are all in theoriginal cookbook and then in
(12:40):
the Thrive cookbook you're goingto find things like the family
favorite lasagna.
That one makes me smile so muchit tastes just like my mom's.
Actually, I had someone theother day tell me it also tastes
just like their mom's lasagna.
It is delicious.
The cheesy veggie chowder Imentioned, that's in the Thrive
Cookbook.
Happy burgers are plant-basedburgers that you can throw
together in a matter of minutes, have in your oven, and they
(13:00):
will just make you smile.
They are delicious.
Then, if you love sides and youwant something that you would
take to a barbecue, the classiccoleslaw tastes just like my
mom's and that's saying a lotbecause she made the best
Southern mayo-y classic coleslawand that is what this one is
modeled after.
We also have a cornbread recipe, just some incredible desserts
(13:23):
like biscotti or brownies orgingerbread.
We have a chocolate veganfrosty in here and the
cheesecake pie chocolatecheesecake pie y'all.
You have to get this cookbookjust for that recipe alone,
don't you think?
Jarrod (13:36):
It will challenge what
you think about whole food,
plant-based.
Yeah, this is a taste and seethat you have to taste and see.
Anita (13:43):
All of these are so worth
picking up these cookbooks.
Jarrod (13:46):
That's a taste, and
don't miss out.
Anita (13:49):
Taste and don't miss out,
because once you get these and
you try them, it is going toblow your mind so much You're
going to find yourself thinkingyou know what?
I actually think I can do this,I think I can.
So you're getting that littleengine that could mentality oh,
I think I can, I think I can, Ithink I can.
And with everyone that you try,it will turn.
I think I can too, I know I can.
And before long you're going tofind yourself surrounded by
(14:20):
this family who loves God, wholoves you, is going to show you,
step by step, how to make thesechanges.
It all starts with tasting andseeing, because tasting the
right thing is going to make allthe difference for you.
