Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime performance flipped the expectations of Black Americans in White America on its head—challenging the norm and going against the grain in a way that I truly respect. His symbolism was powerful, bringing attention to real issues—issues we should be talking about, especially when figures like Harvey Weinstein and P. Diddy are being confronted and exposed.
But here’s where I pause. Have we become so desensitized that we’re just singing along to Not Like Us because it’s trendy, without really thinking about what we’re saying and celebrating? I love the song. I’m a Kendrick fan. But did the spectacle of his shots at Drake overshadow the deeper message?
At what point do we stop getting swept up in the moment and start addressing the real ugliness of power, money, and sex in this country? That’s the conversation I think we need to have.
