Conversamos sobre o potencial de aumento da demanda em novos mercados, como o combustível sustentável de aviação (SAF), marítimo, entre outros usos industriais.
Além das vantagens que o etanol brasileiro pode ter ao se diferenciar do americano por ser mais sustentável.
Do lado do uso de energia, o Brasil utiliza biomassa, enquanto os EUA normalmente usam gás natural. Já no uso da terra, o milho brasileiro vem da safrinha, ao invés da safra de verão, como ocorre nos Estados Unidos, reduzindo o impacto sobre o uso do solo.
Para completar, discutimos os detalhes do projeto da FS voltado à captura e armazenamento de carbono (CCS, na sigla em inglês). Esse projeto prevê capturar o gás carbônico gerado durante a fermentação do etanol e armazená-lo em formações rochosas no subsolo. Além dos benefícios próprios da iniciativa, ela poderá reduzir as emissões de gases de efeito estufa associadas ao uso do etanol a níveis negativos; ou seja, o consumo desse etanol contribuirá para diminuir a quantidade de gás carbônico na atmosfera.
