Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome to PH Spotlight, a community for you
to build your public healthcareer with.
Join us weekly right here, andI'll be here too.
Your host, sujani Siva from PHSpot.
Hey everyone, welcome back toanother episode of the PH
Spotlight podcast, a space forpublic health professionals like

(00:24):
you and me to build our dreampublic health careers.
Once again, I am Sujani, yourhost, and I'm so glad you're
tuning in today, because today'sepisode is a tiny bit different
.
It's part of a new series thatI'm introducing and it's
essentially a monthly updatefrom inside our membership

(00:47):
community, the Public HealthCareer Club.
I really just wanted to create aspace and a way where I can
keep you in the loop about allthe exciting things happening
inside the community and reallyalso give you a chance to plan
ahead, mark your calendars andget involved if you are
interested.
So, for those of you who maynot have heard about our

(01:13):
membership community, it'scalled the Public Health Career
Club, where public healthprofessionals from around the
world are able to connect, learnand support each other in
building meaningful andimpactful careers, and what we
do is help you go from feelingconfused, alone and overwhelmed

(01:36):
in this whole journey of youknow, just figuring out our
careers and we, you know, essentially help you go from
having that confused andoverwhelmed and feeling alone to
feeling confident and incontrol of your life and your
career.
And so for the month of April,I'm going to tell you what we

(02:01):
have happening inside of theclub and I'll be releasing a
monthly episode right here onthe podcast to just like keep
you in the loop, like I said.
And so if there is somethinginteresting that catches your
ear and you want to explore, youare welcome to join.

(02:23):
And the exciting part and I'lltell you a little bit more at
the end is that we arecommitting to always keeping the
enrollment open.
So if you've been with us sincethe beginning of the Career
Club, we used to do I think itwas less than quarterly
quarterly opening kind ofenrollment.

(02:47):
So you can only come inside themembership community on a
quarterly basis.
And what I've learned is thatthat doesn't really work, for
when you're needing help, youknow when you need support, when
you need help, when you needthat community, it doesn't go on
a schedule.
So we wanted to make sure thatwe were available the moment you

(03:08):
needed that support.
So that's why we've kind ofpivoted, changed our way of
welcoming new members into thecommunity, into the Public
Health Career Club, and we'vechanged into this new model of
always keeping enrollments open,so I hope that really helps
anyone who's been interested injoining the club.

(03:30):
So let's get started with April2025 events.
The first one is a continuationof a four-part workshop that I
launched last week called Launchyour Idea, and part two of that
will be taking place on Tuesday, april 1st, 8 pm Eastern, and
it's refining your idea, andpart two of that will be taking

(03:50):
place on Tuesday, april 1, 8pmEastern, and it's refining your
idea, and it'll be essentially awork session and office hour.
So the four part workshopseries was designed to provide
clarity, structure andactionable steps to help you
move from idea to executionright.
So many of us have ideas we'dlike to bring to life, whether
that's a podcast, a blog, anonprofit organization, a

(04:13):
consulting service, a business,a book, a social media page or a
website.
But getting started can oftenfeel overwhelming, and what I've
heard inside the club from ourmembers is it's nice to have
that support, because theyreally want to get started on
some of these ideas.
So I developed this four-partworkshop series.
The first one was anintroduction, so you know, if

(04:34):
you haven't joined the club yetand you're thinking about it,
don't worry, the recording isavailable.
And the second part of thatworkshop is going to be April
1st.
You'll come to the session.
It's a one-hour office hourtype setup for part two and
there was homework from part one.

(04:56):
You'll get to either use thatone-hour time slot with me to
work through the homework or wecan talk through some of the
challenges that you're facingand really just like define and
refine your idea into astructured plan and then get
some guidance and feedback fromyour peers as well as me.
So that's the first event forApril.

(05:19):
Second event for April is goingto be on April 3rd, again
evening time, eastern time, andthat's orientation.
So every two months or so we'llbe having an orientation to the
community and it's essentiallyJanice, our community manager,

(05:39):
walks you through our memberportal, gives you advice on how
to get the most out of the clubEssentially a nice welcome so
you don't feel like you just gotthrown into this community.
And we really take theseorientations seriously because
we want to make sure that you'reonboarded in a way where you
feel like you've been taken careof.

(06:00):
So if you have any questions, you can come and ask Janice
about it.
So the first 30 minutes of that, janice essentially helps you
understand and orient yourselfto the career club and then the
last half of that session ismore of like a social.
You get to meet some of the newmembers that may have joined

(06:21):
and really just a fun way tosocialize.
So that is happening April 3rd.
That would be the second eventfor April.
The next one is a peer session.
So we introduced peer sessionsvery recently and it's a new
initiative and it's for members,so our community members, to

(06:43):
have the stage to discuss apublic health topic that they're
passionate about, page todiscuss a public health topic
that they're passionate about, and it also gives you an
opportunity to practice yourcommunication skills in a safe
space, in a space where you knoweverybody's up here,
everybody's there to help eachother grow and support each

(07:03):
other on their journey.
So this is a session that willbe taking place April 5th it's a
Saturday and it will be by oneof our members, rima, and the
topic is global mental health, and so she'll be facilitating a
conversation on the status ofpublic mental health globally.

(07:23):
She comes with a counselingpsychology background US trained
counseling psychologist.
She's also a prospective publichealth student and a poet,
based in Dubai, and that's whereshe was born and raised.
So you know she's got a veryneat background and she's going

(07:44):
to be facilitating thisconversation on April 5th.
And she's going to befacilitating this conversation
on April 5th.
Following that, we will behaving the third session of that
Launch your Idea workshop onApril 12th and this will be a
strategy and execution typeevent and it's going to be about

(08:07):
preparing for your launch.
So it's a two hour session.
And what we're going to bedoing during part three of
Launch your Idea is we're goingto be talking about kind of like
the essential tools andstrategies that you need to
launch your idea, because inpart one and part two you've
been kind of planning andthinking about it.
We're going to develop apractical launch plan and a

(08:29):
timeline and I want you toessentially take some concrete
steps towards implementing andthen we're going to talk about.
You know how do I sustain thatmomentum beyond the initial
launch, because the launch isexciting but kind of being
consistent after that is alittle bit more challenging.
So we'll talk about that, hencewhy the session is two hours

(08:53):
long.
So that is part three.
It is taking place on April 12thand then, following that event,
we have our April social hour.
So we host monthly social hourswhere everyone comes.
You get broken down, broken outinto different breakout groups.

(09:17):
You get to meet some of yourpeers, new people, just a way
for you to socialize and hangout, and I love these social
events.
I've heard stories of peopleyou know connecting in person
after these social events andreally supporting each other
throughout their journey.
So one of my favorite events.
So one of my favorite events.

(09:37):
And then we have on April, sothat that social hour is April
17th and then April 23rd we haveour office hour with one of our
mentors, latika, whospecializes in the job

(09:57):
application process.
So quarterly she holds liveclinics where she walks through
somebody's real job applicationfrom inside the club and she
kind of like provides tips onhow to improve that job
application and then, kind oflike, on the alternating months,
she will hold office hours soyou can bring your specific
questions on job searchingresumes, cover letters,
interviews, anything else uhrelated to job hunting.

(10:20):
So that is happening on april23rd with latika, who's been a
long-time mentor inside, uh, the, the public health career club.
So that's exciting.
And then April 24th we have atalk by Catherine Kane Nielsen

(10:43):
on the Consumer Drug Take Backprogram.
So Catherine is a SeniorManager of Regulatory and
Compliance at this program atthe Texas Department of State
and Health Services and she willbe presenting on this program

(11:05):
and you'll get to kind of havean opportunity to also ask
questions about this program andjust kind of learn about her
experience managing this program.
So that's taking place April24th and so, as you can see, as
I'm walking through some ofthese events, like we have a
variety of ways to support youon your career journey, right,

(11:27):
we have these office hours, wehave workshops, we have talks
and really, like we've designedsome of these programs to ensure
that there's a space foreveryone inside the community to
find something that connectswith them.
So don't feel too overwhelmedthat there's so much going on.
You get to essentially pick andchoose.

(11:48):
You know what is relevant toyou, what is meaningful, what is
important for you at this stageof your career, and you kind of
go to those sessions, okay, um.
So that's april 24th, um.
And then april 29th and april30th we have more office hours
with some other mentors of ours.
On april 29th we have officehour with megan haifi, again

(12:12):
long time mentor of ph spot, andmegan is able to help you with
job application support, especially if you want to
transition from academia intoindustry or private sector.
She also has her drph and hermph, so any questions around
those degrees and also generallyshe's really great at helping

(12:32):
you figure out your career pathin public health.
So so that session is withMegan.
These are typically about anhour.
You drop in, quite intimate.
You can ask Megan questionsabout anything that you need
with your career.
And then on April 30th, anotheroffice hour with Terri-Ann

(12:54):
Lynch, another great mentor ofours, and she often is able to
assist our members with buildinga public health career in
pharma, navigating the nextsteps in your career, learning
more about working in publichealth policy, which is where
her expertise is in, as well aspursuing a doctor of public
policy and administration degree, which is kind of her education

(13:17):
and background.
She can also, you know, talk toyou about any roles around
advocating for patients andhealth equity discussion.
So those are some ofTerri-Ann's expertise and areas
that she's able to help ourmembers.
So that was a lot.
What was that?
So that's one.
So we had the Launch your IdeaPart 2 workshop series and we

(13:40):
had the orientation, the peersession, global mental health
Part 3 of our workshop oflaunching your idea.
Then we had a social hour onApril 17th, office hour with
Latika talking about resumes andjob application.
Then we have an inside look atthe Consumer Drug Take Back
program, which is a special talkthat we'll be having, and then

(14:01):
we have two more office hours, one with Megan and one with
Terri-Ann.
So that's about nine events inApril, a little more than one or
two a week and, like I said, you know lots going on but it
doesn't mean you have to go toall of them.
Uh, pick and choose uh whatfits uh into your schedule.
But also you know which ofthese uh support you need at

(14:25):
this phase of your career.
So I hope that was helpful foryou to um get an understanding
of what's happening inside theclub.
So if you're listening to thisand you're already a member,
make sure to log into the memberportal.
Um and um.
You need to be a premium memberto attend many of these
sessions.
So RSVP in the upcoming eventscalendar and then you'll get a

(14:49):
reminder email closer to theevent so you don't forget, if
you're not a member yet of thePublic Health Career Club, it's
a great time to join.
Like I mentioned, we'veofficially moved to always open
enrollment, which means you canjoin anytime and start tapping
into this amazing community ofpublic health professionals who
are really just like buildingvery cool careers.

(15:12):
And for a very short period.
We've enabled a seven day freetrial, so it doesn't hurt to
just go in there, explore around, see what you like, what you
don't.
You know, does this suit you?
I guarantee you you'll be drawninto the community and

(15:32):

(15:52):
those memberships.
So give it a try.

orientation, the social hour andthe peer session, which are
available to everybody, all theother events and training

(16:13):
programs are for premium members, so make sure you select

as well.

inside the community or duringthe office hours.
