In this episode, we sit down with Parks California President and CEO Kindley Walsh Lawlor. Kindley has spent much of her career as a champion for social justice and environmental sustainability. She led human rights and environmental efforts at Gap and now heads Parks California, the non-profit partner to the California State Parks system. In the first of our two-part interview, Kindley talks about what led her to advocacy work, how origin stories matter,  and the power behind her new tattoos.

Here's what we discussed with Kindley in Part 1:

  • The importance of your origin story.
  • The value of finding your people.
  • How it feels to protect women.
  • Leaning into discomfort.
  • Being in massive learning mode.
  • Tattoos as a source of strength.
  • Working on big problems.
  • Doing what matters.
  • Creating a list of non-negotiables.
