Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to the Realized Empath Podcast,
where we get real about lovingand stumbling through our
sensitive lives With your hostand holistic counselor, Kristin
Schwartz, who helps redefinewhat's possible for an empath
who embraces a path ofself-healing.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Hey there, beautiful souls, and welcome back to the
Realized Empath Podcast, yoursanctuary for deep dives into
the empath experience.
I'm your host, kristin Schwartz, and today we're exploring
something profoundlytransformative.
I thought it would be fun totalk about the top 10 somatic

(00:46):
trauma therapy exercisestailored just for empaths.
So, before we dive in, I wantto remind you to visit
RealizedEmpathcom and join ourvibrant community.
In the community, you'll findmore resources, you can connect
with fellow empaths and startyour journey toward deeper

(01:09):
self-understanding and healing.
So what somatic therapy and whyis it a game changer for
empaths?
Simply put, it's a treatmentthat focuses on the connection
between the mind and the body, addressing the physical
sensations tied to our emotionalexperiences.

(01:32):
So, for empaths, connecting toour bodies can be a struggle.
We're so tuned into theemotions and energies around us
that we often neglect ourphysical presence.
It's really easy for us todisconnect, and this disconnect
can lead to a buildup ofunprocessed trauma and energy.

(01:55):
Why do we need our bodies torelease energy?
That's a great question.
Imagine your body as a vesselfor all kinds of energies
absorbing energies, storing andthen hopefully releasing them.
For empaths, this vessel canget overwhelmed and overloaded.
This where somatic exercisesoffer us a path to release this

(02:22):
energy, helping us heal andregain balance.
But before we jump into thetransformative exercises, I want
to take a moment to talk aboutand understand something crucial
how trauma and negative energyare stored in our bodies.
You see, when we experiencetrauma or intense negative

(02:46):
emotions and we don't processthem fully, they don't just
vanish.
Instead, they find a home inour physical selves, embedding
within our tissues and musclesand altering our posture.
So this unprocessed energy canlead to a host of physical

(03:10):
ailments, ranging from chronicpain, adrenal disorders, thyroid
disorders, tension, headaches, digestive issues, even more
profound conditions that affectthe immune system, like
fibromyalgia or chronic fatiguesyndrome.
So for empaths who areprofoundly affected by not just

(03:33):
our own but others' emotions, this can mean carrying an extra
burden of unprocessed energy, making it even more essential to
find ways to release and heal.
So, knowing this, it becomespretty clear, right, why somatic
exercises and helping our bodyrelease are beneficial and

(03:56):
necessary.
They offer us a direct path toengage with and release these
trapped energies, helping toalleviate our emotional burdens
and the physical manifestationsthat they create.
So as we explore theseexercises, I want you to think

(04:16):
of them as keys to unlockingareas of tension and pain,
bringing not just emotional butalso physical relief and healing
.
With this deeper understanding, let's move forward and let's
explore the healing power of thetop 10 somatic trauma therapy
exercises designed just for you,the empath.

(04:37):
Let's embark on this healingjourney together, transforming
not just our minds but ourbodies.
Okay, so exercise number one isdynamic stretching.
So what is dynamic stretching?
Dynamic stretching involvesactive movements that gently

(04:58):
stretch the muscles, preparingthem for physical activity and
increasing overall flexibility.
So, unlike static stretching, dynamic stretches are performed
in motion, which can helpimprove kinetic awareness and
agility.
Why is dynamic stretchinghelpful?

(05:19):
For impasse?
So this form of stretching canbe particularly beneficial when
feeling emotionally overwhelmedor physically stiff from
absorbing external energies.
It helps release the buildup ofemotional tension in the
muscles, promoting a smootherflow of energy through the body.

(05:41):
Think of our goal here asaiding our body in helping it
release the energy.
That's how we release theenergy is through the body.
So these movements are usaiding the body and doing what
it wants to do anyways, which isrelease.
So you can use dynamicstretching before you start your

(06:03):
day, especially after arestless sleep.
Maybe you had intense dreams oremotional processing.
So here's how you wanna do it.
You can begin with neck circles, then move to arm and legs
swings, so you're progressivelyincreasing the range of motion

(06:23):
and you're visualizing therelease of emotional energy with
each stretch.
Our second exercise isprogressive muscle relaxation,
or, if you look it up on theinternet, pmr.
So PMR is a deep relaxationtechnique involving the tensing

(06:46):
and relaxing of different musclegroups throughout the body.
So what this practice does isit promotes awareness of bodily
sensations and can significantlyreduce stress and anxiety
levels.
So why is PMR good for impasse?
It's great for those moments ofhigh stress or after absorbing

(07:08):
heavy energies from others.
Pmr can help identify hiddenareas of tension, basically
facilitating a profound sense ofphysical and emotional release.
So when you're going throughyour body and you're tensing
different muscle parts andyou're letting go, you're gonna
notice what areas of your bodyfeel tighter or more dense, and

(07:29):
that is gonna be the places thatyou're holding the energy It'd
be great to use after a dayspent in crowded places or
intense social interactionswhere you've likely absorbed a
lot of external energy.
So how you wanna do it is youstart from the toes and you

(07:50):
gradually work up to the top ofyour head and you wanna tense
each muscle group for fiveseconds and then relax for 30
seconds, and you wanna focus onthe sensation and the release
and notice what parts of yourbody feel more tense, and then
you can focus more on thoseareas.

(08:11):
Next exercise, which is a funone dance therapy.
So dance therapy uses movementto express emotions.
What that does is we'refostering emotional, cognitive,
physical and social integration.
It's an embodied form oftherapy that promotes healing

(08:33):
through dance and movement.
So why is dance therapy a goodone for impasse?
Well, dance therapy is apowerful medium for expressing
and releasing pent-up emotionsand energies, without words, but
by translating complex feelingsthrough movement.
So you can use dance therapywhen you're feeling emotionally

(08:56):
congested or unable toarticulate your feelings into
words.
And I want you to allow yourbody to move freely to the music
.
Choose music that resonateswith your current emotional
state, without judgment or anypreconceived steps.
Just turn the music on and letyour body do what it needs to do

(09:21):
to move that energy through youand have fun with it.
Our next one is percussivesomatic therapy fun name, right.
So this one involves usinggentle rhythmic tapping or
drumming on the body tostimulate the nervous system and
release physical energyblockages.

(09:43):
Think of yourself sitting on achair and drumming on your
thighs, right.
So why is this helpful?
For impasse, the rhythmictapping and drumming help to
disrupt stagnant energy patternsand stimulates flow, which is
crucial for impasse, dealingwith energy overload or

(10:04):
blockages.
When would be a great time touse percussive somatic therapy?
When you're wanting to break upand release the absorbed
energies, maybe after exposureto negative or stressful
environments.
And how would you do it?
You can use your fingertips orpalms to tap gently across

(10:24):
different parts of your body.
You can focus on areas thatfeel dense or blocked.
So maybe you want to tap onyour upper shoulders, or maybe
you want to tap on the back ofyour neck or maybe the lower
back.
You get to scan your body andfigure out what areas feel dense

(10:45):
or blocked, and then you taprhythmically until you feel some
release.
Next exercise is somatic writing, and I did somatic writing so
much when I first started movingtowards healing and becoming an
empowered empath, and it reallydid move me through so much.

(11:09):
So what it is?
It's a practice of writing thatfocuses on body sensations and
emotions and thoughts, andyou're facilitating a deeper
connection between mind and body.
For impasse, it's a therapeutictool for processing and
releasing trapped emotions.

(11:31):
And what it does is it fostersa sense of clarity and emotional
relief.
So you can use somatic writingduring or after intense
emotional experiences.
I would use it in the morningsto process anything that came up
through my dreams, and I alwaysused it with my morning energy

(11:53):
because I felt more connectedand clear in the mornings.
It's there to help process andrelease the emotions tied to any
of your experiences.
So how would you do somaticwriting?
So you want to write withoutcensorship about what you're
feeling in your body and anyemotions that arise.

(12:14):
Maybe you've become aware of apattern of thought that you have
.
You want to just write freelyand allow the process to lead
you toward release.
Next exercise is vocal toning, and vocal toning involves making
extended vocal sounds on asingle note, which helps to

(12:38):
relax the mind and body throughthe vibration and the resonance
of the sound.
For impasse, this practice canbe especially healing for
clearing blockages in the throatchakra, often affected by
unexpressed emotions, enhancingoverall energy flow.
I want to touch on that reallyquick, speaking for myself and

(13:01):
through for many impasse thatI've worked with through the
years.
A lot of us have blockages inour throat chakra.
This is where you will findbehaviors like people pleasing,
difficulty setting boundaries, difficulty speaking up for
yourself, difficulty beingassertive.
A lot of times, the blockagesin the throat chakra follow

(13:26):
those patterns of behavior.
How can you use vocal toning?
So when you're feeling silencedor unable to speak your truth,
I want you to open and clear thethroat area.
You choose a natural tone andyou hold it as long as it's
comfortable, focusing on thevibration that it creates in

(13:48):
your body.
So this can sound like ah right, it's a very deep tone.
Only because I'm still gettingover my illness that I got from
Costa Rica.
But you can choose a morebeautiful tone.
It's up to you.
Whatever feels best to you, youhold that tone and you can do

(14:10):
it outside and be as loud as youwant, or you can do you can be
more soft whatever feels likeit's moving that energy for you.
Our next exercise isvisualization with movement.
So this technique combinesphysical movement with the
mental imagery of releasing ortransforming energy.

(14:34):
What you're doing is you'reintegrating the mind's power
with the body's movement and itaids in grounding and
energetically cleansing,especially useful for releasing
specific emotional or energeticburdens which, as an empath, we
all love.
That right, so you can use itafter energetically intense

(14:58):
encounters where you visualizeand move away negative energies
physically.
So how would you use this?
While moving, imagine expellingnegative energy with each
motion, like flinging water offyour hands or sweeping dust away

(15:19):
with your feet.
Right, you see how that bringsin the mind and the body
together.
If you're using your arms andyou're swinging your arms back
and forth, you're imagining thatwith each swing of your arms
you're flinging water off yourhands or energy off your hands.

(15:44):
The next one is nature walkswith intentional focus.
What this is is a mindfulpractice of walking in nature
and you're paying closeattention to the sensory
experiences, the sights, thesounds and the smells that are
all around you.
This exercise grounds you, reconnecting you with the

(16:06):
earth's stabilizing energy, helping you to discharge the
energies that are absorbed fromothers.
So you would use this whenyou're feeling disconnected or
overwhelmed by, let's say, urbanenvironments and you're
reconnecting with the calmingpresence of nature.
So you would do this by justwalking slowly, focusing on each

(16:30):
sense, one at a time, andimagining each step releases
heavy energies into the earth.
I already feel calmer justtalking my way through that one.
Okay.
So our next one is expressiveart therapy.
So this one is a therapeuticpractice that uses creative arts

(16:51):
, including painting, drawing, music and drama, to explore and
express emotions.
What this does for us in-passis it offers a profound outlet
for emotions that might be toointense or complex to verbalize,
so you're facilitating anon-verbal form of emotional

(17:13):
catharsis.
This is a great one to use whentraditional talk therapy feels
limiting or you're seeking amore intuitive way of processing
your emotions.
So what you wanna do is youwanna let your intuition guide
your choice of medium andcreation Again what feels right

(17:34):
to you and focus on the processrather than the outcome, and I
want you to allow your emotionsto flow through you into your
art.
Our next one is water therapy.
Water therapy is a practice ofusing water in various forms, so
you can use it in a swimmingpool or bath or shower, and

(17:57):
you're using water to promotephysical and emotional healing.
So water is a powerful mediumfor cleansing and releasing
emotional and energetic residue, and what it does is it offers a
sense of renewal.
I've used water therapy afterabsorbing negative energies or

(18:21):
even during emotional turmoil, and I use it to cleanse and
reset my energy field.
For baths, it also helps to useepsom salts.
It's pretty self-explanatory.
But for water therapy, youwanna engage with water.
Mindfully, I want you to focuson the sensation of water

(18:41):
against your skin instead ofjust jumping in and just not
really thinking about orconnecting to the act of being
in the water.
And imagine it washing away allthat no longer serves you.
There's no time limit on theseexercises.
The beauty of you beingconnected to your body is that

(19:03):
you can allow your body to guideyou and it will show you,
through sensations, when you'vegotten that result that you're
looking for.
