Scott (00:06):
I am losing my voice.
My wife did first from screamingat her kids on the road trip
home.
Just kidding.
They were amazing.
I would like to highlight.
When we used to travel fromMaryland home, I calculated it
one trip and for every two hourson the road, we had one hour
stopping, which meant your 21hour road trip took 31 hours of

(00:28):
road time.
I hated it.
Wait, this was with your kids orwhen you were a kid?
Yeah, no, with our kids.
But we just did 14 hours.
When we punched it in from mysister in law's house, it said
arriving at 9, 11 p.
m.
We got home at 10, 11 p.
m.

(00:49):
with a stop for lunch, a stopfor dinner.
Gas stops, P

Michael (00:52):
stops.
That's pretty solid.

Scott (00:55):
One, when you go 77 in a 70 sorry, police, I I went 70,
but just hypothetically.

Preston (01:04):
No, that's still.
You make up a few minutes.
A modern

Scott (01:06):
day vehicle.
I know, yeah.
No you make up a few minutes anhour.
So we probably had a little bitmore stoppage time than that,
but yeah, I was pretty happythere.

Michael (01:14):
Yeah, so I guess the final podcast for the year.
So I thought we could keep itshort, sweet, and get everyone
amped up for 24.

Scott (01:27):
Welcome to episode 44.
of reclaiming man podcast.
I am your slightly lost my voicefrom a cold host, Scott Silvey.
And with me as always actuallynot as always.
We've had a lot of episodeslately where one of us has been
preoccupied or otherwiseindisposed.

(01:48):
With me as often as humanlypossible, Mastermind Michael
Beckwith.
How are you, buddy?

Michael (01:56):
Better than

Scott (01:56):
ever.
Better than ever.
And our friend from the North.
The Southern Kuck and SouthPreston Rodsky buddy.
How are ya?
I'm doing great on this.
Oh yeah.
I want cha know.
Oh yeah.
Hey,

Preston (02:11):
I, I'm doing great.
Yeah.
Last podcast of the year, you'rejust stoked for 2024.
So you just, your mind is onnext year, which is not, that's
a great mindset to have.
No, it's

Scott (02:21):
not.
My mind is on finishing thisyear strong, the year ain't
over.
I've still got shit to do.

Michael (02:29):
We're ramping up for another 75 hard.
So it's definitely, yeah,

Scott (02:35):
it's a ramp.
It's a ramp, like a longer ramp.
Yes.
One of my vendors, Joey Gilkeyfrom Apex revenue, friend of the
show.
We'll have them on at somepoint.
They just kicked off a newpodcast.
I forget the name of it.
I'll plug it in some other time, but yeah, him and JJ Russell,

(03:00):
who's our VP of sales.
They had a podcast together for70 or a hundred episodes or
something.
And they're relaunching it verysimilar conceptually, at least
to a lot of things we talkabout.
So I've decided that I'm in arace with them to see who
acquires who first, and probablyshould do the same for podcasts.
So we, should just dominate themis really what it boils down to.

(03:21):
Friendly way.
I like that.

Preston (03:23):
Let's throw down the gum.
Up the

Scott (03:24):
ante.
Yeah.
Yes, exactly.
Yes.
Joey pinged me and said, Januaryone, 75 hard.
And I was like, January onedrank sad presence for his
birthday.
Oh, Hey.
And then January 19th, I'm goingsailing with some homies in
Grenada and having done 75 hardwith and without a sailing trip.

(03:50):
It's way more fun when I'm noton 75 hard, I returned from said
trip on, I think the 29th, 28th,something like that.
So I'm planning a February 1stkickoff, but I will be doing 75
hard.
For the first 18 days andfailing intentionally on day 19.
Sorry.
Starting on February.
I guess technically I coulddecide on starting on January

(04:11):
1st and then fail January 1stand start January 2nd.

Preston (04:14):
Yeah I think that's good like rehearsal to just get
you in the mindset for likewhen, the February 1st comes,
you're like, you've alreadybasically been doing it, but now
you're like, because I know thewhole concept is I'm

Scott (04:25):
excited for this one.
I just got my MMA gloves, mylittle six ounce gloves.
So I'm, ready to, I'm ready toscrap, bro.
Okay.
I'm really excited about thisone because it's going to be 75.
Really hard.
Yeah.
My wife and I have not discussedthis, so maybe she will

(04:46):
disagree.
'cause two workouts creates.
a challenge in scheduling a lotfor her.
But my workouts are going to bea lot of both the times I've
done it, there were a lot oflike walking workouts.
There won't be very many ofthose.
There's gonna be a lot ofrocking.
There's gonna be a lot oflifting.
There's gonna be a lot ofgetting after it.

(05:06):
There will be 75 days of coldplunge.

Preston (05:09):
I think, which I think you should have no walking
workouts, and if you arerecovering or whatever, and you
need to just do a 45 minutewalk,

Michael (05:19):
do ruck.
It's gonna be a ruck.
That's what, yeah.

Scott (05:23):
Dude, those are harder than

Michael (05:25):
I thought.
They're much harder than Ithought in a really

Scott (05:27):
good way.
Yeah.
That's what she said.

Preston (05:32):
I did one the other day.
I just threw two dumbbells in mybackpack and it fucking sucked.
That's exactly what I did.
Yeah.
That's exactly what I did.
It was like, not, I feel like apurpose built ruck would be much
more comfortable but it waspretty cool.
Yeah.
It

Michael (05:47):
still sucks.
Yeah.
It's still, I think it still isgoing to suck, but it's more
about the thought that it's,just, there's such a great
alternative to the rest of whatthe rest of the world tells us
is required.
So even the fact that you'redoing it with two barbells,
which is exactly what I did, Ijust threw two 25s in there.
And I, yeah the first one that Idid as a practice, I did 20

(06:10):
pounds in there and that wasnothing.
Yeah, but I, so I went up to 50and I'm just like, Nope, I'm
just going to keep on chippingaway at 50 pounds here until I'm
up to the full 45 minutesbecause I want to be able to do
a 45 minute rock.
As one of my workouts, not everyday, but many of the days.

Scott (06:29):
Yeah.
I've been thinking about gettingthe, the rocket plate carrier as
well.
Yeah.
So that's, yeah, But it goes onyour back.
Yeah, so at some point I'llprobably get that.
I do only have the 30 poundplate though.

(06:49):
And I've been thinking aboutgetting a, a 20.
So the reason I got the 30 iscause I wasn't really sure, how
it was going to go, but now if Iget the 20, then I can add that
in and have 50.
So that's, probably somethingI'll do before February one
starts.
But yeah, it's going to be, it'sgoing to be getting after it.

(07:09):
And one of the things I hadconsidered before the challenge
was throwing down my plan was 75days, basically the same
program, but instead of twoworkouts, I was going to do cold
plunge.
I was going to do, a fullmobility.
So that might be shoulder, itmight be hip.
It might be all of them.
However, I'm feeling a fullmobility and a full stretch.

(07:30):
But then the other thing I'mlooking at is I want to get a
heavy bag.
And then be able to work that inmy gym or into my routine as
well.
I told you I got one.
And I don't know if I, no yeah,actually.

Michael (07:45):
Yeah.
I got one for free and it waslike someone was doing a tear
down.
And so I just expanded my gymarea in the garage.
So it's now a full 12 by 12feet.
And so I'm going to put that inone of the corners, but.
I know the intention of thisisn't to necessarily talk about
the next 75 hard, but I thinkit's really exciting because it

(08:06):
does give some insight intowhere we're at the end of this
year and looking back at thisyear and obviously sharing with
our listeners a little bit aboutwhat's driving us into next
year.

Scott (08:21):
Yeah I should, look at, I just pulled up Facebook
marketplace and there's plentyfor a hundred bucks.
That I can go under that I couldget to, yeah.
All right.
So let, yeah, let's talk aboutwrap up 2023 going into 2024.

(08:41):
So yes we are doing anotherround of 75 hard or I am at
least.
But I think there's gonna be alot of changes coming in 2024.
I think for me, at least a lotof this year was figuring out
the process, figuring out theformat, Just getting comfortable
with all of this, but I think weneed to really recommit to, I

(09:07):
want, this to be more additivewhere, as we go from episode to
episode it's, weaving into agreater narrative.
And I think to some degree, itdoes organically because all
we're doing is talking about ourown individual journeys and
collective journeys.
But, yeah, I just think to me,at least there's been a little

(09:28):
bit of disconnect between weekto week, what I'm gonna talk
about, and I want that to be alittle bit more cohesive and
just be able to tell a morecompelling story.
So I think the story tellingthe, not that we're gonna
editorialize this, but I feellike we're going to be just
leaning into higher quality,consistent.

(09:49):
The sort of looking for justbetter content is really what it
boils down to is I think thereneeds to be a recommitment to
better content for this and forour audience.
And, so that's part of what willbe coming.
Without getting too deep intoit.
We're bringing on a studio outof L.
A.
To do a lot of productioncontent, et cetera with us.

(10:10):
And, so we're gonna have, Ithink, a lot more fun and a lot
more content that will go outaround reclaiming man, which I'm
excited about.
I know.
Some of that might be a littlebit surprising to these guys,
because we haven't talked abouta lot of it, the three of us,
but I did have a great calltoday with them which I touched
on a bit.
So I think we're going to beable to leverage them to drive

(10:32):
some, additional value to ouraudience and really get this
game on lockdown.
So I'm really excited aboutthat.
And then me personally, I'mstarting Elevate 2024 in three
days.
So I'm, also really keen to seewhat I'm learning out of that
and what I can bring back tothis group here.

Michael (10:52):
And, beyond this group, the broader audience and That's
what I mean.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I think for a long time thisyear, I looked at reclaiming man
as this separate Entity from therest of my life and this and not
in a negative way, but as anobligation, I was like, I made

(11:13):
the commitment to do this.
I'm going to do this.
And even sometimes when itdidn't feel as cohesive,
certainly when it didn't feel aseasy I was very, much.
So I made the.
Commitment.
And I'm really trying to keepthe promises that I made to
myself as well as the two of youguys in our audience as well.
But, I realized over these pastfew weeks as Scott, you were

(11:37):
talking a little bit about whatyou were trying to do with your
professional brand.
And you talked about savageryacross all areas of your life,
just doing everything with thatmentality.
And I, recognized that thisisn't really a separate thing at
all for me.
It's one of those.

(11:57):
Really key components of from anaccountability perspective,
because it's one of the onlyareas where I'm really speaking
out to the world because I'mputting it out there.
It adds more weight to thecommitments that I'm making.
It adds more weight to what I'msaying.
And so that's what when I lookback at last year.

(12:20):
At this time, I was saying, OhI'm happy to read some books and
share some of my ideas with youguys when you guys kick off this
podcast in a couple months andthen fast forward a few months.
And it was the three of uskicking it off.
And 40 plus episodes later, wefind ourselves at the end of the
year.
And in a completely differentspot and a completely different

(12:43):
level of potential that I seefor the three of us for
reclaiming man for usindividually.
So I'm really stoked.
Honestly, I can't when I saidbetter than ever.
I, I, truly mean that I, thinkpart of it as silly as it was, I
got it.
I got in today from working outand I got out of the sauna and I

(13:06):
was in some meditation and I gotin upstairs.
My, my wife is in the cold, isin my tub cold plunging.
And I'm like, this isridiculous.
I was like, what are you goingto be done?
And she's I'm like, yeah, I'mlike, I was like this is my,
thing, and she's yeah, I'm doingit for six minutes today.
And I was like, what is goingon?
Dang.
Yeah.
And, I just realized like thatone little thing as trivial as

(13:30):
it seems was I didn't push on itall year with her.
I didn't say, oh, you got to dothis.
You got a cold plunge.
Obviously she heard me talkabout it plenty.
Too much with everybody whoasked me about it.

Scott (13:41):
Of course, a recap is going to cover 75 hard and cold
plunging.
Of course it is.
Yeah,

Michael (13:46):
it has to.
But my point is that 1 piece ofevidence that.
What we do impacts the peoplearound us, especially the people
who we love the most.
And we don't have to shoveanything down anybody's throat.
We simply have to show up everyday and do it consistently.
And, yeah, I could go on for alittle bit, but I'll pause

(14:08):
there.

Scott (14:09):
I think the thing that you said that I wanted to touch
on was this idea of paralleltracks.
And I felt that pretty hard.
I talked about it a little bit,I think, last episode.
Or two episodes ago with worklife imbalance.
But, what I'm really lookingforward to is, that integration

(14:29):
of this has been something thatI've done for myself and for the
three of us and any of ourlisteners, but it wasn't, this
was a separate thread from whatI've been doing in my business.
And that to me I've talked aboutapex on here.
Part of what I admire about themis.

(14:50):
They've weaved all that togetherand they have who they are at
work is who they are at home iswho they are on their podcast.
Like it's all just them and it'snot about telling other people,
to your point, Michael, what todo.
It's about us living our fullestlife and just sharing what we're
doing.
And people will take differentlessons from that.
It's not me telling anyone whatto do.

(15:10):
It's me saying Hey here's whatI'm doing.
And then.
Here's the, results I'm seeing,whether that's in my
relationships or my, body andfitness or in my business, it's
really just about, we know we'redoing the right inputs and we
know that in time the outputscome together.
So it's, let's just keep sharingthe inputs that we're producing

(15:33):
or that the inputs that we'reexecuting against and then
demonstrating the output that itcan produce or it does for us.
And I love that Preston.
You should quiet down overthere.
I

Preston (15:45):
know, sorry.
Maybe let the rest of us havesome good stuff.
No, I just think it's reallyinteresting to reflect on
almost.
Going back two years from when Ifirst got to Tennessee and at
the end of last year had reallybecome close with you, Scott,
and then met Michael and had no,had no idea the year before that

(16:07):
I was going to be out of thecorner of my eye and looked like
you were drinking a wine bottlethere, Michael.
I was like, holy fuck, he'sgiving her.
But,

Scott (16:17):
it was falling off the wagon and I was chugging from a
wine bottle on camera.

Michael (16:21):
Getting ready for 75 hard, right?
Thank you.
And so today, here we come,

Preston (16:27):
Just the where last year ended, I could have never
predicted that I would even bedoing a podcast with anybody,
let alone.
And now year two, I don't thinkI necessarily accomplished
everything that I had intendedor planned to do by the end of
2023.
But when I look back, I did.

(16:49):
Tenfold what I've done everyyear for the past 10 years.
And so going into 2024, havingdone that, it's it wasn't, it
really wasn't that hard.
It's just a little bit every dayadds up over a year and being a
little bit more focused in 2023,losing focus in 2023, regaining

(17:11):
that focus, going into 2024 withthat experience and that
knowledge.
I already know 2024.
I'm not in a rush to be in, inDecember, 2024.
I can imagine this time nextyear when we have this same kind
of recap state of the union kindof podcast, it'll be like.

(17:36):
Boys, let me fucking tell youabout 2024, and I will all of
that to you guys.
And I would say Zach and, Ryanas well, two of our other
buddies that we have anaccountability group for, it's
just having that men to youmentioned Michael, just when you

(18:01):
say something on the podcast, ithas more weight cause you're
accountable for it.
Yeah.
It just makes you want Not letyour boys down, so to speak.

Scott (18:13):
All right.
Let's do.
Yeah, sorry.
I didn't mean to.
Thank you.
Yes.
This has been quite a journey.
Yes, sir.
What I wanted to do was rapidfire some questions.
Favorite book you read thisyear.
Go first,

Preston (18:30):
Michael.

Michael (18:33):
Favorite book is really, that's really hard, man.

Preston (18:36):
Gosh.

Scott (18:38):
As

Michael (18:38):
a man thinketh.

Preston (18:44):
Mine would, mine's kind of a tie between Tribe and, I
forget who it's by offhand, andThink and Grow Rich.
I read that for the first timethis year, and I feel like
that's going to be probably ayearly read for me for the next
two or three years, becauseit's,

Michael (19:03):
should be, yeah.

Preston (19:04):
It's just, I feel like I got so much out of it, but I
feel like I will get so much, Ineed to reread it to rediscover.
There's a lot there.
It's a really, fascinating book.

Michael (19:15):
Too many books though to say favorite, but I
appreciate the effort.

Scott (19:20):
I'm going to go with, yeah, I'm going to go with it's,
a very long title called ahundred million dollar offers.
A hundred million dollar leads.
Comfort crisis, essentialism.
Great book.

Michael (19:31):
Yeah.
Great book.
Great book.
Is that the

Preston (19:33):
one you guys are calling comfort crisis or you
just, did you say

Scott (19:37):
no, that I just listed four books.

Preston (19:38):
Yeah, that one's on my list for next

Michael (19:43):
year.
Harmony is on my list for nextyear.
Yeah.

Scott (19:48):
Yeah.
Those are, all really good.
The harmony, my left podcast ismy favorite podcast of the year.
I don't know if you have onethat sticks out to y'all.

Preston (19:58):
No, I didn't.

Scott (20:01):
Also, Ed Mylett had Lewis Howes Howe, Lewis Howe, Howes.
I'm trying to remember, do Ihave a, there was something that
came out of that.

Michael (20:22):
It was, for me, it was definitely the, Dispenza.
Ed Mylett and Joe Dispenza.
That was probably my top podcastfor the year.
Even though it occurred a fewyears ago, but yeah, that one
was

Scott (20:35):
pretty impactful.
I got to go back and re listento that one.
There was something in therethat I, polo'd you guys.
I was driving back from Memphisand I was just on fire from it.
Like it was actually one that Ithink Michael, you had
recommended or maybe it wasZach, but, favorite episode of,
this podcast this year.

Preston (20:57):
Ooh, for me, it's going to be I'm coming up with a tie
again, but it's going to be whenwe had.
Zach and Ryan on and when weinterviewed Brad, I really
enjoyed, talking to otherpeople.
Not that I don't like talking toyou guys, I love talking to you

(21:19):
boys, but those episodes wherewe can take what we've talked
about on a weekly basis andeither talk about it with other
people live on air or also justlearn about someone else's story
and have a conversation is whatwas really unique and fun to me.

Michael (21:44):
Yeah, this is a real hard question, but I think the
first one that we did in growthmindset was really impactful for
me because I kept on, I actuallylistened to it a couple of
times, which most of the timesI'll listen to ours on one and a
half X or something like that.
And I'll listen to 25 minutesand I'll be like, I'm sick of
hearing myself.
But, that was a really good oneto me.

(22:07):
And it was from an energyperspective, I felt like.
All of us were prettyenthusiastic about it at that
point, but I do agree, Preston, and perhaps a little bit of a
glimpse into the future here, wewill be incorporating interviews
on a monthly basis.
Into the podcast, because thatadds such a different context

(22:31):
and different stories.
And that's ultimately what theshow is about is the three of
us, our stories individually, collectively, the audience,
their stories.
And then the people that we caninterview and bring on and
hopefully share some meaningfulpieces that help our listeners

(22:53):
help us.

Preston (22:55):
Yeah.
When you mentioned the idea oflike people's stories there's
all the big, names thatinterview and stuff.
And you might think what did thereclaiming man boys have to
offer?
It's there's 7 billion people onthis earth and there's so many
people that have amazing storiesthat no one's ever heard of that
will help and inspire.

(23:16):
We're going to interview thosepeople and you guys are going to
fucking love it.
So get ready.

Michael (23:21):
How about you, Scott?

Scott (23:22):
My favorite episode.
My favorite.
Yeah.
It's the one where we talk aboutthe old man in the forest saying
we've been waiting for you.
The right of passage, the right

Michael (23:34):
of passage.
Yeah.
Yeah, you're going to say thefive minute monologue that we
had someplace in the thirties, the early, we're just like,
we're just like, we're makingthat the, we're making that the
episode.

Scott (23:49):
Yeah, the one that was just me for five minutes.
Definitely the best.
Yeah, definitely.
Whoever was on, they was justspitting straight bar.
Yeah, I think there's a lot ofthem that I really liked growth
mindset.
Definitely.
Anything about Massive ImperfectAction, I thought was really
good.
And Identity I think there'ssome really interesting things

(24:09):
there.
Yeah, that was the Take the Leapone.
I do like that.
Yeah.
The Hulkman

Preston (24:15):
and the Force that was a heavy That was good.
I agree.

Scott (24:20):
Yeah.
Yeah.
But all right, boys.
I think, we wanted to keep thisrelatively short and sweet.
I did tell my wife I would bedone before the kid's bedtime.
So we don't want to anger the,

Preston (24:36):
Keep that promise.
The the

Scott (24:37):
wives.
Yes.
All right, gentlemen.
It has been an absolute pleasurethis year.
Hey, there was an everyone, wecared about those things like
desperately.
Yeah.
Everyone uses

Michael (24:52):
them.
We've gotten better this

Scott (24:54):
year.
Oh yeah, for sure.
For sure.
Just it has, been a truly apleasure.
We've a year ago, I think wewere still very, early and this
journey of self discovery andlacked a certain self awareness
about who we were as individualsand who we were as a group as

(25:17):
well.
And, I spoke about this actuallyearlier today and how How
different I feel now talkingabout these sorts of things than
I did a year ago Preston hastalked about it as, imposter

(25:40):
syndrome, which is something Icarried for a lot of my,
twenties and even thirtiesprofessionally.
And, if, the definition of asuccessful life is living a life
of increasing difficulty andchallenges that you must
overcome, then by definition, you're always not going to know
what you're doing, which meansyou can't be like unless all

(26:02):
you're saying is like.
That's not really the definitionof success, but as we know, like
success is all about pushingyourself and finding that edge
and sometimes failing.
And so he's, you're supposed tofail half the time.
You're supposed to be hard.
You're supposed to be pushingthe boundaries.
And if you're not pushing theboundaries and you're not
getting uncomfortable, thenyou're not, pushing them hard
enough.

(26:22):
You're not, stretching yourselffar enough.
And it's, really been.
An honor and a, incredible yearof growth and observation of
y'all and where you've beenpushing yourselves in different
ways.
And I think there are certainaspects of all of this that we
would all say, Scott's best atthis.
Michael's been best at this.
Preston's been best at that.
And not that it's so much likeme versus them as much as it's

(26:45):
like these, there are differentareas.
I say that more to highlight howthere are different.
We all operate at differentpaces and we there's certain
things that we index on orcertain things that we find
easier or certain things thatwe're more successful at but it
doesn't mean that you have to

Michael (26:57):
be good at all of them.
Yeah, there's certain thingsthat we can lead at and that's
one of the things like, Preston, the daily reader from John
Maxwell, which is.
It's just rich with leadershipquotes and leadership advice.
It made me recognize that beinga leader, just about everybody

(27:19):
can be a leader in some area oftheir life.
And it doesn't have to be aleader at work professionally,
it can just I think even moreimportantly, it can be a leader
at home.
And that's where I feel likewe've all grown the most
because.
This past year, we've all gonethrough a lot of challenges with

(27:39):
just the dynamics at home andhaving kids and having spouses
and trying to do many things atonce.
So it's been such a success inthat regard.
We've all grown tremendously andthe best part about it is The
new baseline for next year isthat much higher and we are at a

(27:59):
completely different spot.
So I'm thankful, certainlygrateful for you guys this year.

Preston (28:08):
Love you guys.
It's been a fucking awesomeyear.
Let's make I love

Scott (28:14):
having best friends.
Yeah.
It's pretty

Preston (28:17):
fucking cool.

Michael (28:18):
Hey, this is the first year.
This is the first year in manythat I can say that I have best
friends.
So that's a huge accomplishmentin and of itself, for sure.
Hell yeah.

Scott (28:34):
Oh yeah.

Preston (28:38):
I forget how to play that thing, but I'll figure it
out at one point.
That's good

Michael (28:42):
because you wrote it

Preston (28:44):
I know I like wrote it on the fly and record it and
then we put it on here and I'velike never

Scott (28:51):
played it again.
All right, boys.
That is a wrap on episode 44 ofyear 2023.
Hell yeah, man.
Cool.
Let's let's do it again nextyear.
