Lori Drescher, founder of Recovery Coach University, discusses her son Jon. Jon fought a long, hard battle with Opioid Use Disorder and died in February 2021. He was only 30 years old. Lori talks about the pain of having a child with a drug addiction and what makes it so incredibly difficult. She explains why she dislikes the phrase detach with love and believes that we can learn to attach differently, in order to be a more effective partner, despite the addiction. We discuss the stigma surrounding opioid agonist medications like buprenorphine and Methadone and how eliminating stigma can save lives. Lori speaks to the support that parents need and where they can go to find help.
