Welcome to the Pining For Pixels podcast! This is my video game variety show podcast, part of the Red Rooster's Gaming Coop network where I talk gaming and gaming culture every week. Each episode will feature a subject or theme that interests me, and I will speak about what is on my mind in the world of video games!
This week I am premiering a new episode segment idea: Critical Flop-Buster! In this new segment I will be looking at games that were were critically panned, but I thought were actually really good, or games that were critically praised that I strongly disliked, or were massively disliked or dismissed by the gaming community at large. For this inaugural entry into this segment, I am going to look at Ryse: Son of Rome, a launch game for the Xbox One back in the day. This game was critically panned and largely disliked by gamers. I almost didn't get it when I got the Xbox One, however, at the last minute I opted to give it a shot anyway, and am I ever glad that I did, because I loved it! My aim with this segment is to examine why there is a disconnect for the title in question and give my 2 cents on it. Tune in this week to see if you might want to re-consider Ryse: Son of Rome. Please also make sure to provide me your feedback on this new segment!
