(00:55):
I just like to welcome everyoneto this month's Reiki share and
this week's podcast.
Before we begin I just like tolet everybody know a little bit
of news.
For those of you who've studiedanimal communication with me
there is a almost a manualready.
(01:17):
I had the opportunity to teachanimal communication to 40
beautiful Asian students fromKorea, China, and Hong Kong on
the weekend.
And I also had a few folksjoining from France and from
Australia.
And in order to teach thatnumber of students in three
(01:38):
different languages I had to bereally organized.
So although I've taught animalcommunication for 14 years, we
finally have a manual.
If you've studied this with mein the past, I'm going to be
putting the manual in ourFacebook group.
We have a private Facebook groupfor everybody who's studied
(01:59):
animal communication with me,and the only thing is I just, I
realized as we went through theclass, there are just a few more
things that I want to add to themanual.
There's about three additionalpages.
So once I've had a chance to dothat, Go ahead and look for that
in our Facebook group that isgoing to be available to all of
(02:19):
you if you've studied in thepast.
You will probably notice fromthe manual that the class has
evolved quite a bit, so if anyof you want to review the animal
communication class that you'vealready taken with me, you
Please feel free to do that andyou can do that at half of the
fee.
(02:39):
Now the next animalcommunication class is coming up
at the beginning of December, but I do want to let you know
that after that class we willalso have an animal
communication level three classwhich isn't even on my calendar
yet.
And that class is for people whowould like to become
(03:04):
professional practitioners ofanimal communication.
And we're going to be doing thatover two evenings, December 9th.
And 10th.
So it's not on my calendar yet,but it is going to be there
soon.
And I am also teaching thatfollowing weekend, the 14th and
15th of December an animalcommunication level 3 class.
(03:28):
for the Asian students, but youshould have a manual soon.
I also wanted to let you knowthat there is still room in our
Campobello classes July 22nd to26th is Reiki level one and two
in masters and then July 29th.
to August 2nd is our AnimalReiki Level 1 and 2 in Masters.
(03:51):
And on the Tuesday evening, bothof those weeks, we will be going
out whale watching.
The whales are already there inCampobello.
They came by and had coffee withme while my husband and I were
down on holidays, both morningsthat I was out having coffee on
the front porch.
And so we should have a reallynice time.
(04:13):
With them.
I also want to let people knowthat if you feel called to take
Reiki further, we have a KaurnaReiki class coming up August
12th to 16th.
And this is very early morningsin North America, late mornings
for our European students, andit will be evenings in Australia
(04:37):
and Asia.
So please feel free to join thatif you'd like.
And we also have an animal Reikimasterclass coming up geared at
our Asian students on August19th to 23rd.
And again, that's very earlymornings for North America.
(04:58):
Late mornings for Europe andevenings for Australia and Asia.
Then in October, we're going tobe teaching all hybrid classes,
both here and at the farm.
And I should mention that thoseCampobello classes are hybrid
classes, meaning you could joinus online or in person, the same
as the ones in October.
(05:21):
So guys, I just want to welcomeyou.
This is a very special episodeof our Reiki from the Farm
podcast because today we'recelebrating the life and wisdom
of a horse in our herd that werecently had to say goodbye to,
our beloved Breaker Dawn.
(05:41):
Through her story, though, shehas asked me.
to explore some of the lessonsthat she taught us about things
like self acceptance, adaptability, and the deep
connection that we share withour animal companions.
She asked me to tell her storyin a way that could inspire each
(06:04):
of us today to live our livesthe way that she did.
We're also going to talk abouta, what can be a difficult topic
of compassionate euthanasia, because that's what we decided
to do for Break or Dawn.
So I'd like to walk you throughthat a little bit and what that
was like.
And I know for those of you whoare listening, who teach animal
(06:27):
Reiki, that May wind up being avery valuable story that can
help you with your clients.
I also want to talk about howanimal communication can tie
into all of that.
And also of course, thebeautiful healing energies of
Reiki.
And as always, we'll be goingthrough a lovely.
(06:49):
meditation at the end to honorBreaker Dawn's spirit and just
help us integrate her wisdominto our daily lives.
Let's begin.
So today I'd like to start withan invocation, just bringing
your hands together in Gassho, activating Reiki.
(07:12):
I don't know about you, butthere's been so much going on in
my life lately that I have notSo I invite you to just invite
all of the Reiki symbols thatyou feel guided to bring in
(07:32):
today, just to surround you.
You may wish to draw them onyour hands or in your mind, just
envisioning them in the room andjust breathing deeply as a light
(07:52):
from the highest heavens and thelight from the divine earth.
Travel down and up to in frontof your hands, then flow through
your hands and into your heart, the gift of love.
And we just want to take amoment today to really feel into
(08:15):
that love.
There's the love that we havefor each other, just being a
part of this community.
And there's the love that wehave for those that we're close
to in our lives, friends andfamily.
(08:38):
There's the love that we havefor animals.
And then there's this universallove from source or God,
whatever name that you use fromthe earth, from Reiki, from the
universe.
It's always available to us andit runs through us.
(09:02):
It is our life force.
And so just allowing yourself tobe held for a moment, nurtured.
Embraced by this love that knowsyou intimately and is fully
(09:27):
capable of taking care of all ofyour needs.
So often we don't take the timeto acknowledge it and touch base
with it.
And in the busyness that's beenmy life lately, I know that I
(09:50):
haven't done this as often as Ineed to keep me balanced and
stable.
And we remember today thatenergy can never be created or
(10:14):
destroyed.
We remember that those that welove, whether they're four
legged or two legged, winged orfinned, when their energy
(10:34):
transforms, it doesn't mean thatthey're gone or lost.
And so we just acknowledge thisenergy taking its different form
(10:54):
when we think of our loved ones.
And we realize that they too areheld.
In the beauty of the embrace ofthat universal energy that is
(11:17):
available to all of us, and infact, more than ever, they
embody that energy.
We take a moment to give thanks.
For the gift of Reiki, for thatability that it gives us to move
(11:45):
through even the most difficultof situations.
We take a moment to thank theteachers who've come before us,
bringing us these energies, thisgift, and to thank each other.
(12:11):
Because in being here togethertoday, whether you're With me
online right now, or listeninglater, our hearts are coming
together, our energies arecoming together, and we're all
supporting each other'sjourneys.
(12:33):
Thank you for that.
We say thank you to the DivineAnimal Kingdom, the Brothers and
Sisters of the Light, and to theloved ones in our lives that
help us feel part of acommunity.
(12:56):
Whether they're two legged orfour, winged or finned, and we
take a moment as well now tojust acknowledge your beauty,
because you're beautiful, and asthe animals tell us, when you
(13:23):
but recognize your beauty, andhow beautiful you are, you will
create your lives from thatspace, and so we realize that
even in death, there is life.
And in everything, there isbeauty.
(13:44):
Thank you.
And Namaste.
You can take as long as you'dlike.
(14:05):
Coming back.
Tonight, I had a request from mybeautiful Breaker Dawn to share
(14:27):
some of her life story and themany lessons that she has for
us.
In fact, after she passed, manyof you knew that on the
Solstice.
She had chosen to go, and so wehonored her wish with
compassionate euthanasia.
(14:50):
And since then, she's installedherself as a guide for me.
With her true sense of sass andself worth, she installed
herself right behind me, in themiddle of my shoulder blades.
In my blind spot where I can'tsee her because she knew that
(15:13):
even when she was 28 years oldand her body was failing, I
still thought she was beautiful, even though I know on the other
side, she probably has regainedher youthful vigor, and maybe
her form looks more like it didwhen she was younger.
(15:37):
She knew that I thought her format 28 was beautiful.
was so beautiful that she isvery happy for me to remember
her that way.
And so she set herself up in myblind spot so that I can't see
her, but I think of her in theform that she was in toward the
end.
(15:57):
Some might have considered it adiminished form, but her spirit
was so strong that although herbody was weaker, I didn't find
it diminished at all.
And that's how she'd like me toremember her.
She told me that she installedherself there because from the
(16:18):
beginning of my Reiki journey, even though I didn't understand
it, my horses, Buddy and Honey, set themselves up as my Reiki
guides.
And one of them, Buddy is to myleft, Honey is to my right, and
they walk with me.
into this whole journey.
They've walked with me the wholeway.
(16:38):
And I was very confused atfirst.
I asked them, how can you be myReiki guides?
You're still living.
And they said everybody knowsthat horses can walk between the
worlds.
So they didn't find that it wasdifferent at all, that they
could be a Reiki guide to me,even though they're living here
on the farm with me.
(17:00):
But Breaker Dawn set herself upbetween Buddy and Honey.
And she said, she actually sether nose on it.
at the part of my back thatoften the part of my spine that
often is sore and gets a bit ofa kink in it.
And she says, whenever I'mreluctant to step into a part of
(17:23):
my path, that's good for me,she's going to take her nose and
give me a shove into it.
And in fact, she used to use hernose to give us a shove quite
often in life.
So it makes sense that's whatshe decided to do.
So Breaker Dawn was with us for16 years from the time that she
(17:43):
was 12, and we noticed aboutthree years ago, she was going
blind.
And we noticed that her teethwere having a harder job
keeping, chewing her food.
And so her body condition was ittook a little bit to keep her
(18:06):
body in good condition.
She was still one of theprettiest moving horses in my
pasture though.
She was so beautiful, but herbody was wearing out.
So each year for the past threeyears, she would have Rough days
one winter, two winters ago, Ithought she was ready to go, and
(18:28):
she just wasn't enjoying life atthat particular winter, and I
said, Are you ready to go, breakor dawn?
And that's the gift of animalcommunication.
She said, No, not yet.
And I was a bit surprised.
Her demeanor didn't, she didn'tseem to be having that much fun.
I guess it was two years ago.
She was 26.
(18:49):
But later that year Bertina, myassistant, lost her dog.
And her dog had been with herfor quite some time.
And Bertina and Don have a veryspecial relationship.
Bertina Don is as much Bertina'shorse as she is mine, maybe
more.
And Dawn explained to me, afterBertina lost her dog, that she
(19:14):
was aware that was going tohappen and that it wouldn't have
been fair for Bertina to have tolose both of them the same
winter.
It would have been verydifficult for her.
The following year she had agreat, actually, The following
summer she didn't enjoy flyseason.
She never did.
Last summer, she didn't enjoyfly season.
And she said she was ready togo.
(19:36):
And we asked her, okay, great, please tell us when.
And after she got through flyseason, she changed her mind.
She was happy to go throughanother year, which was lovely.
But then we always check in withher now and then.
And After the veterinarian wasout to float her teeth or to do
(19:59):
her dental work this year, hesaid, look, she just doesn't
have much for teeth left togrind her food.
There's not much more we can dofor her.
And so I knew That's usuallywith horses there.
That's the time when they'recoming toward the end.
So I asked her, and in fact, shesaid yes, and she would let us
(20:22):
know she, she was getting ready.
And then she let Bertina knowshe was ready to go.
So I touched base with her and Isaid, have you thought about
when?
And I was thinking this was inJune, early June and I said,
have you thought about when youwould like to go, might have
even been mid June or, no, Ithink it was early June, and I
(20:44):
thought she would say November, sometime before winter.
She said June 27th.
very specifically.
And it was much earlier than Ithought, but I contacted the
veterinarian and he was onholidays then.
I was also going to be away.
So we asked her if June 21stwould work.
She said it would.
(21:05):
And then that's very difficultthough for people to do.
You always wonder, you questionyourself, gosh, did I understand
that right?
Am I making the right decision?
I had a number of other animalcommunicators.
Just double check.
And she was very happy with thatdecision.
And so I think that's such agift through animal Reiki and
(21:27):
animal communication, just thatopportunity to be able to ask an
animal what they prefer.
Sometimes I even wonder, I thinkit's kinder.
So one of the things that asColleen and Robin.
And Sue and I were creating ICRTAnimal Reiki, and we were just
(21:51):
listening to the energy.
One of the questions that theanimals told us to ask when an
animal is getting toward the endof their life is, Are you
prolonging their life orprolonging their death?
And Everybody knows the answerto that.
As animal Reiki practitioners,we don't make a decision for our
(22:15):
clients.
We don't advise.
This is a very personal decisionthat's between every animal and
their human caregiver.
We support whatever decision.
an animal caregiver makesregardless, if, even if that's
not a decision we would make, wealways support it.
(22:36):
And so the question though, thatwe invite our clients to ask is,
am I prolonging their life orprolonging their death?
If you're prolonging their life, then by all means continue on.
But if you're prolonging theirdeath, then maybe It's time to
make a decision and every personknows the answer to that if they
(22:58):
really look deep withinthemselves and are very honest
about it.
As we were working through, though, this section on death
and dying and so on, and how wecan support people in that
(23:18):
situation with animal Reiki, Wediscovered through Colleen's
little mini horse Gator heactually asked her to write a
section on behalf of him forcompassionate euthanasia.
Now Gator had a few crises inhis life.
(23:42):
He was getting very aged, and Hesaid, I would rather not go at a
time of crisis.
That's going to be harder foryou, harder for me, harder for
the vet.
It's just going to be harder foreveryone.
So what he advised Colleen andher partner, she had a, another
(24:06):
woman who was part caregiver orof Gator.
And what she advised them to dois pick a day that's good for
you, and good for theveterinarian, and good for me,
before I'm in crisis, and let's,make this a beautiful ceremony,
(24:28):
rather than a horrible anddifficult event.
Based on this knowledge, thatis, of course, what we decided
to do for Breaker Dawn wasCompassionate Euthanasia.
Interestingly, I, myveterinarian is a very
compassionate individual andhe's been with my horses.
(24:52):
Since we moved to the farm 25years ago in 1999, he came out
and worked on my first horsesthen, and he's been with them
all along, and so he's knownBreaker Don for the last 16
years, and it was very importantto me that He do this, but I
(25:15):
also know that this is verydifficult for him.
He's very kind and I knew thatcoming out and assisting with
this might put a strain on him.
And so I let him know, just Isent him a message ahead of time
(25:36):
and said, by the way, there isgoing to be some animal Reiki
here all around you.
And and I know that forveterinarians, compassion
fatigue or secondary traumaticstress disorder is very real.
Anybody who works with animalsas a caregiver of any kind,
(25:57):
because of course the human isan animal as well but
particularly animals inmedicine, so that would be
nurses, doctors, veterinarians,etc.
Many of these people strugglewith compassionate euthanasia
because It can be so difficultto be in those situations.
So I just, Breaker Dawn wantedme to offer him the gift of
(26:21):
Reiki to help lift.
any this for him and in fact hereally appreciated the offer but
he wanted to let me know when hearrived that situations like
this where we plan it for anolder animal before they go into
crisis were so much easier forhim than then the other
(26:45):
situations he had been in and heactually explained that last
November going into winter, hehad 11 animals with planned
compassionate euthanasia, because here in my part of the
world, we have to, with largeanimals we do have to bury them
(27:05):
before the ground freezes.
So November is our last.
Opportunity for animals thatmight struggle to make it
through the winter.
And he actually spoke about howmuch he appreciated breaker,
Dawn's going this way and theplanning and so on.
(27:30):
One of the things though that Iwant to touch on is that in the
course of the last.
Fifteen years as an animalcommunicator This is a
conversation that I have hadwith a lot, probably hundreds of
people, is around the time of ananimal's passing.
(27:55):
And quite often people want ananimal communicator to touch
base with the animals, and so wedo, and just find out if they're
ready to go, if they're notready to go.
I have to say that most peoplealready know the answer to that.
intuitively.
And so in the majority of thecases, the animal was ready to
(28:20):
go.
There were a few that were like,no, I've got a couple of good
years left.
But for the most part, theanimal said, he or she already
knows that I'm ready to go.
And what's beautiful in being ananimal communicator at that time
is that you then have theopportunity to give messages to
(28:44):
the animal's people, to theirbeloved people, and also from
the people to the animal.
And so there, you're able tofacilitate this really lovely.
two way communication.
Quite often I've had animalsthat have said, I've had people
that were ready to mortgagetheir homes to undergo an
(29:08):
expensive treatment that wouldkeep an animal around just a
little bit longer.
And in situations like that, animals have said to me, Oh,
please tell them not to do that.
And things like that.
But the messages are alwaysbeautiful and and rewarding.
But I have permission to tellyou a story about a beautiful
(29:31):
dog named Jasmine, who was thedog of a friend of mine.
And sure enough, ourconversation was Jasmine was
ready to go.
So my friend made arrangements, but the veterinarian wasn't
immediately available.
I think she had to wait two orthree days.
And.
There was nothing that could bedone about that.
(29:55):
And the last two days forJasmine were not pleasant.
They were really rough.
And so my friend asked me tospeak with Jasmine again on the
spirit side and asked, as manypeople do, does she forgive me
for the difficulty at the end?
(30:16):
And I'm so grateful that she didbecause Jasmine gave me a life
lesson.
She put it into context, whatall of the other animals have
shared with me over the courseof having this conversation.
She showed me in pictures sothat I could really understand
(30:37):
it.
She showed me a beautiful bucketof water and it was a handmade
wooden bucket that was the best.
finest craftsmanship I had everseen, and it had a beautiful
rope, but you could tell justlooking at the water in the
bucket that if you could tastethat water, it was going to be
(30:59):
the most refreshing, beautifulwater you have ever tasted.
tasted.
You just wanted to dive yourhead into it the way that a
horse does and drink it.
It just looked so life givingand so refreshing.
It was the most beautiful waterI had ever seen.
And then she drew my attentionto just above the bucket.
(31:22):
There was one drop on its wayinto the And Jasmine said,
Please tell my beloved friendthat My life, our life together
was that bucket and that waterin that bucket.
(31:43):
It was beautiful and fulfillingand everything either of us
could have ever hoped it wouldbe.
And she said, my death was thatdrop.
And she said, please ask her tofocus on the bucket and not the
drop.
The bucket of water and not thedrop.
(32:04):
And so they had 12 beautifulyears together in a relationship
that can only be described as asoulmate relationship.
It was really special.
When you saw the two of themtogether, you could just I don't
know.
She was a beautiful dog with abeautiful spirit.
And my friend is a beautifulgirl.
(32:24):
And it was one of those things, like when you saw them together,
you just, your heart got alittle bit lighter and warmer.
And, you knew.
And so many times our animalshave told me that You do have to
feel the grief.
Mary's Horse Jock told me thatwhen you lose someone, a little
(32:46):
piece of your soul pulls out andleaves with them, that's
attached to the relationshipcord, but when you allow that
little gap in your soul to heal, much the same way you would
allow a It just depends on yourrelationship and where you're
(33:10):
at.
There's no right or wrong.
But in any event, that little, that gap does heal.
You have to let yourself feelthe sadness, but it will heal.
And Jacque told me when thatheals, You can then connect with
your loved one on the plane thatthey're at.
(33:33):
Now, Sheila, I just wanted toask you because you, Dawn,
before she left, we were able tohave a birthday party for Dawn.
And because everything wasplanned we invited, she's
touched a lot of people.
a lot of people's lives here atthe farm.
(33:54):
And she's been very special toso many.
She's taught people to ride.
She's taught them to open theirhearts.
She's just been an incredibleteacher and friend and companion
to so many.
Humans and even other horses andso on.
And so we invited a lot of thepeople, anybody who wished to
(34:16):
come and say goodbye to herbirthday party.
She had a piece of her own cake.
She had a whole bunch of treatsand raspberries and you name it.
And And it was really lovely.
And that was just, that was onher actual birthday, her 28th
birthday.
And then it was just not quite aweek later that it was time for
(34:41):
her to go, or just around a weeklater that it was time for her
to go.
Now, Sheila, you were with herat the end.
I was wondering if you would saya few words today because you're
a death doula, you have workedwith other, in this situation
(35:03):
with other people and you, youwere still surprised by how the
how everything went.
So if it's all right, if I spotyou up, spotlight you, I'm going
to just see if I can bring youon with me.
There you are.
And I just wonder if you wouldmind sharing your impression,
(35:30):
Sheila, and what you noticedwhen you were here.
Sheila (35:35):
Dawn was very special to
me, too, and she was my
introduction to horses.
I had a huge fear of horses, andthrough meeting her I just
connected.
She just walked over to me andstood there, and I reached out a
(35:56):
little bit to touch her nose andher neck and then I just felt
it.
I felt it's okay.
Don't be afraid.
We're okay.
And it just, yeah, it was thebeginning of a beautiful
friendship.
Yeah.
She was a mentor to me, too.
She helped me with with healingother animals.
(36:17):
I'd call on her psychically andshe'd be there.
She she was instrumental insaving a horse in the Caribbean.
And he now has a wonderful lifeand it's directly attributable
to her.
She even gave him a name.
Thank you.
He didn't have a name.
Pamela (36:37):
He didn't have a name,
yeah, and she told
Sheila (36:38):
you he was noble.
She called him noble, yes, whichhe was an Arabian stallion and
he was indeed noble.
Just a lot of wonderful thingsabout Don.
It's making me a little bitchoked up.
Yeah her passing was still haveher because I walk every morning
in this.
(36:59):
Forest on the island here inMiramichi, there's a, an island
in the middle of our river andthere's a causeway.
And I take my dog, Charlie, every morning for a walk in this
forest.
And and she joins us sometimes,if she's up for it.
She's just so irreverent,though.
She will tell me whether she'sup for it this morning or not.
(37:21):
She's got this Brooklyn accent, and she's quite, quite the
feisty little girl.
But, what I see is her, yeah, restored to her former form.
Even though I thought, just likePam, she was beautiful.
Even in her final days, she wasthe most beautiful horse I'd
(37:44):
ever seen.
Anyway we Yeah, that morning Igot to meet the vet, and there
was Pam, myself, Rutina, andanother lady and so we walked
out in the field and, I reallydidn't know what to expect.
I'd never been through anythinglike this before, and anyway.
(38:04):
I had brought, I brought somelavender from my garden that was
growing in my garden inMiramishi and put it in her mane
and talked to her for a littlebit and she just slipped away
peacefully and I said she had abeautiful death.
It was befitting of who she was.
(38:26):
She just slipped away and shewent to sleep and that was it.
But as she slipped away, what Isaw was this white gorgeous
horse rising up out of her andjust going up and up and up and
up and on her back legs.
guest (38:46):
And,
Sheila (38:47):
And I think we had I was
so completely amazed that, I
think I saw a unicorn horn onher head.
I think I did.
And you, Pam, explained to mewhy that was.
Yeah.
So yeah, that was, it was one ofthe most awe inspiring deaths
(39:15):
that I have ever experienced,and I've experienced a few.
guest (39:20):
Yes.
But
Sheila (39:21):
it was beautifully done.
It was a great honor to a greatfriend, and I know she
appreciated it.
Thank you.
She's with me in the mornings inthe forest.
I, I call it my green cathedral'cause I'm walking through these
paths and the leaves areoverhead like this and I'm
talking to her in the GreenCathedral in the morning
Pamela (39:43):
oh my gosh.
I love her.
Thank you, Sheila.
Sheila (39:47):
Thank you.
Pamela (39:48):
She.
I had to leave the followingmorning to go to the Omega
Institute and present as apresenter at their Reiki
conference and presenting on mybook and so on, and Omega
Institute is such a very specialplace, but she traveled with me
and she was with me the wholetime with all kinds of Messages.
(40:12):
And she said to me, now, inlife, I wouldn't have been able
to be with you, but now I can bewith you always.
And she was very clear thatshe's not, sometimes our animals
reincarnate, and she was veryclear that she was not going to,
that she was going to stay inspirit form so that she could be
with all of us.
And At the Omega Instituteduring the meditations and
(40:35):
things, people were saying, Isaw this white horse.
And one woman came up and said,I had mentioned that we had just
lost her, but I didn't sayanything about her, what color
she was, what breed she was.
And the woman said, I saw thisblack and white Appaloosa.
(40:55):
And I just chuckled because ofcourse, she had in her later
years.
But when we first got her, shehad big, dark, black eyes, and
she was black and white.
She was quite black and white, but she just grayed over time.
And as I was leaving the OmegaInstitute, there is a beautiful
(41:17):
little spot.
Just my presentation wentextremely well.
The bookstore sold out of mybook, and I thought, wow, I've
arrived.
And And then it was time to headhome and I had a very long drive
and the weather, there werethunderstorms and a little bit
of a tricky weather to drive inand I was going to be getting
home very late.
(41:38):
And I passed by this tree andunder the tree it said, Leave a
rock, take a rock.
And there was this beautifulcrystal, rose quartz and clear
quartz crystal pendulum there.
just in the leave and take pile.
And so Breaker Dawn said, there,I put that there for you.
(42:01):
You are supposed to take that.
So I brought the, this beautifulrose quartz pendulum.
And I thought, what a lovelygift.
And just as I was processing myown grief.
And today, unbeknownst to me, myhusband just found it, or I
wouldn't have known about this.
(42:21):
This is actually a piece ofhorsehair pottery.
For those of you who are onYouTube, I'm just, I've got a,
you can see this, and what it isit's beautiful pottery.
This is just this gorgeouspiece.
It's much, much larger than Ithought that it was, Sheila, and
it's this gorgeous piece ofpottery that a friend of
(42:44):
Sheila's made for each of us,for myself and Sheila and
Bertina, that As they're firingthe pottery, they just lay a few
hairs, and so we had collected afew of her mane and tail hairs,
and they lay a few hairs on it,which forms the pattern on the
(43:04):
pottery.
I just I'm in awe and I can'tbelieve that it just showed up
here today while I was out andin town just in time for Breaker
Dawn's podcast.
So I think that's amazing.
Sheila (43:21):
I felt it was really
important that it make it to
your house today.
And so yes, but the one thing Ishould mention about it before I
forget, because I probably will,It cannot be in a sunny room
because apparently it willdeteriorate the horse hair.
(43:42):
Okay.
Maybe in your living room orsomething.
Bring it on special occasions, your podcasts.
Pamela (43:52):
I will move it because
this is a very sunny room.
Oh, I'm
Sheila (43:58):
I'm so glad you like it.
I love it.
Thank you.
Pamela (44:03):
Sheila, thank you so
much.
And I mentioned, does anybodyelse have a story?
Anybody who's here today?
I'll go ahead and take you offthe hot seat, Sheila, and remove
the spotlight.
But does anybody else have astory or questions or anything
you'd like to share today?
(44:23):
If you would, I'd be happy tohave you just go ahead and speak
up.
guest (44:33):
Hi, Pam.
It's Lisa.
Pamela (44:36):
Yeah, I'm going to turn
the AC off.
Sure.
We can hear you just fine.
guest (44:42):
I wanted to share that
about a year and a half ago in
November, you did a podcastwhere we did a meditation.
I think it was when you had thehorse that had had to have
surgery, right?
And yes, and then you led thisbeautiful.
meditation that was somethingabout, my memory of it was, is
(45:04):
there anything unresolved had todo with death and things that
were unresolved and that's allthat I remember.
But my cat came in during thatmeditation and was on me while
we were doing that meditationand the very next morning she
had a very sudden death.
She was old, she, and she hadsome health issues.
(45:24):
But it was as if thatmeditation, it was we came to
this realization that it wasn'tunfinished business, it was, and
I think she knew that I wasready, and not that I thought
that I was ready, but on someenergetic level, that meditation
that you led, it wasunbelievable, because it was
literally the next morning, andit was sudden, and it was quite,
(45:45):
unfortunately, dramatic andrequired, and, it wasn't
planned.
But that was how she chose to goto not to drag it out, I think,
to have, just that it was timeand let's just do it.
But it was amazing, and then shecame to me in a dream after it
was actually not a very gooddream, and then I was disturbed,
so I was online and scrolling, and I found a post by a woman
(46:08):
who does and she was looking fora Reiki practitioner to come in
and work with her and herforces.
And I was like, Kitty D woke meup so that I could, do you know
what I mean?
Because your heart is going toscroll like you never, it's
totally random, like you see.
That was like, she brought me tothis one, who's now a good
friend of mine, and I work withher whole herd, and she really
(46:29):
led me and Laura to horses, soit was just beautiful how it all
unfolded, but it wasemotionally, it's devastating to
have to say goodbye, whetherit's planned or not.
It was just heartbreaking, but Idid want to share and make sure
that it came right after your
Pamela (46:47):
meditation the next
morning.
the next morning.
Yeah.
Amazing.
Lisa, thank you for sharingthat.
And you brought up some reallygood points.
Quite often, that is how theywant to go is just quickly.
And then they want us to goahead and process our grief
because we have to, but then togo back and don't stay focused
(47:10):
on the grief, not on the drops, stay focused on the life that we
had together.
And, They will guide us, Ithink, from the other side.
They seem to have this level ofawareness.
And that's so beautiful.
I'm so grateful that it turnedout that way.
And I think Simba, in hiswisdom, he knew what he was
(47:31):
doing when he set that up, to bethe subject of the podcast like
that.
Thank you.
Did anyone else have anythingyou wanted to share before we
move into Breaker Dawn's lessonstoday?
guest2 (47:44):
I'd like to share
quickly about Eleanor.
I had found a puppy onCampobello Island when I took my
Animal Reiki master course, andshe was my soulmate.
And she was very special to me.
And but she, I had her aboutfour months and I noticed her
(48:07):
health declining and she wasn'tgaining weight and she was only
about seven months old, but wetook her to the vet and she
explained to us that she was inkidney failure.
And there was nothing we coulddo to save her.
And so we had to put her tosleep to help her cross.
And about a month later, I had asession with Pam and Pam helped
(48:33):
me with a lot of grief aroundthe situation.
Especially because I knew thather and I had a very special
connection.
And so she decided that in herafterlife, she chose instead of.
Reincarnating, she's here withme.
And and one of her lessons thatshe's here to help teach me and
(48:55):
help me to work through isboundaries.
I've been working through thaton many different levels
throughout my life but it was areally, it was a really
interesting situation and what Ihad realized as well is that, A
lot of times animals will holdenergy for us and in her
(49:18):
transition, what I had realizedis that she was holding energy.
She had no boundaries.
So she was actually holding onto our pain and some of the pain
in our house.
Pamela (49:34):
So it was a beautiful
lesson, Amy, and she was such a
beautiful dog.
Oh my gosh, so gentle and kindand loving and sweet and
guest2 (49:45):
Yeah.
And so it was it's been awhirlwind and a lesson, yeah,
and I'm just grateful for herand for Pam, for you, Pam.
So thank you.
Pamela (49:58):
I'm grateful for you.
Thank you, Amy.
Oh my gosh.
Thank you.
Anyone else?
Oh, Joanne said, and I shouldmention Joanne she gave us some
beautiful crystals to bury withDawn, and we did and Bertina and
I each kept one, and one wentwith Dawn, and she went with a
(50:20):
beautiful crystal.
peony flower and the beautifullavender and pine cones.
And Joanne said that Don taughther so many lessons and she's
forever grateful.
And she showed her what it feelslike to have self acceptance and
how to feel self love.
And that's, Absolutely one ofthe life lessons that she asked
(50:43):
me to share tonight, Joanne.
Right on, and thank you.
And in her sassy way, of course, because yes, she was very sassy
with her Brooklyn accent.
Thank you.
Anyone else want to share beforewe move on to the lessons?
Something
Sheila (51:01):
just occurred to me.
The pine cones that she wasburied with came from the Green
Cathedral where she joins me inthe morning.
Of course they did.
Isn't that amazing?
There you are.
How wonderful.
Just as you said pine cones, Iwent,
Pamela (51:20):
Oh yeah, they came
Sheila (51:21):
from the Green
Cathedral.
Pamela (51:23):
Yeah.
That makes sense, doesn't it?
Yep.
Thank you everybody for yoursharing.
I really appreciate it.
I want to move on and just tellyou a little bit more about this
beautiful girl and the lessonsthat she has for us.
I basically met her 16 yearsago, and I wasn't actually going
(51:45):
to look at her so much as astallion that was also for sale.
A gentleman who had some reallygreat.
Appaloosa Bloodlines was gettingout of horses.
And and he, for health reasons, and he wanted them to go to a
good home and they were veryfairly priced or, and so I went
(52:06):
to see them and my husband said, you can't take a stallion.
There are too many children andit's, it's safety risk.
And he was right.
So we decided, we looked at heras well, and I decided, you know
what, I'll take her, but.
Because she had amazingbloodlines.
She was related to, for those ofyou who know about horses, there
(52:28):
are two horses that at that timethat had won the triple crown,
there was Man O War andSecretariat.
And so Breaker Dawn was relatedto Man O War.
And the stallion was the onlyAppaloosa stallion who had come
(52:48):
down directly, really, throughthe Appaloosa lines related to
Secretariat.
And I decided to breed her withthe stallion and the stallion
was about to be castrated beforehe went to his new home.
Nobody really, he was a greathorse, but stallions take
additional care and housing andso on.
(53:12):
And no one was really equippedfor that was interested in him.
Rei Kurdan came and was going tohave a baby with this stallion.
But when I did meet her, Ireally felt, she was a
broodmare, and I really felt, wow, there's a lot more to this
horse than that.
I felt she was a little bitunderappreciated.
(53:33):
When she arrived, the firstthing she did when I turned her
out in the pasture was she lopedaround the entire pasture.
40 acres that we have herepastured checking the fences and
she loped around them two orthree times in the daylight.
It turns out that Breaker Dawnhad a condition called night
(53:56):
blindness and it's reallyinteresting.
She can see in the full daylightbut not in the in between so she
can't see at dawn or as it's orat dusk and she can't see if she
goes into shadows.
And so what she wants to tell usfrom that planning that she did
(54:20):
by running all the fences andchecking them was A, she was
checking her boundaries.
B, she wanted to let us knowthat she was planning and
preparing for the times when shecouldn't see them so that she
would know where they were, where the boundaries were, and
(54:40):
be able to uphold them and notget herself into trouble.
She also wanted to teach us thatthere's more than one way to
see.
So even though she wasn't goingto be able to see with her eyes
at different times of the day,she would be able to see with
her muscle memory after she hadgone around and memorized the
(55:03):
route.
I think that's also a reallygreat lesson about adaptability.
In the face of challenge, sojust that single act.
It was really remarkable, and Ithink that she wants us to see
that we all have potential inthis.
(55:25):
Breaker Dom wasn't here for verylong, and her name was Breaker,
and She had been here forprobably a month when I looked
at her and said, you're sweetthough.
You're not, Breaker is not theright name for you.
And I tried changing her name, but she didn't understand.
But later on, when an animalcommunicator came, the first,
(55:49):
before I could do animalcommunication, the first thing
she said was she doesn't likeher name and she'd like to
change it.
And so we looked on herregistration papers and her name
was Daybreak Dawn.
And so we realized from that wecould change it to Dawn, but by
then, by November, she hadarrived here in June.
(56:11):
We had been calling her Breakerfor a while, and it was hard to
break the habit.
So one of my students Dan,suggested that we call her
Breaker Dawn, and I'm sograteful for that, if you're
listening, Dan.
Because we did, and eventually,we were able to, sometimes we
would call her Don, sometimes wewould call her Breaker Don, but
(56:32):
she let us know that she likedboth.
And there's a couple of lessonsthere for us.
The first lesson is justtrusting your intuition.
Because my intuition, only weeksafter she arrived here was
that's not the right name foryou.
But when it didn't immediatelyclick, when I started trying to
(56:55):
call her Dawn or trying to, Igave up.
And so she, that was a messagein trusting your intuition.
And also, she wants us to knowthat this is a lesson about if
things don't fit you, changethem.
If, and she said, if your namedoesn't fit you, change it.
(57:17):
If the place you live doesn'tfit you, change it.
If your clothes don't fit you,if the sex doesn't fit you,
change it.
Be who you are.
Change the things that are notyou and that don't fit you,
which I thought was remarkable.
And so the other lesson in thatis be true to your nature in all
(57:40):
aspects of your life.
of your life.
About five months after shearrived with us, unfortunately,
Breaker Dawn lost that dear babythat we were all so very excited
about.
And she was just six monthspregnant of a an 11 month horse
(58:05):
pregnancy.
And she went into a deepdepression and all she could do
was stand and stare at the woodsfor about a month.
And just after a few weeks ofthis, we didn't know what to do
at first.
We left her out of the lessons, but that didn't seem to help.
And if anything, it almostseemed to make her become more
(58:26):
withdrawn.
And so a little bit of time withpeople that brushing her and
loving on her seemed to make herfeel a tiny bit more
comfortable, but we reallydidn't know what to do to help
her.
And it was, There's anexpression that Louis Bourgeot,
(58:50):
my husband's friend, told himrecently at my husband's
father's funeral, who alsorecently passed and left a big
hole in our hearts.
Louis Bourgeot said his fatherused to say, Dans la mort, il y
a la vie, or in life, in death, there is life.
(59:13):
And if you think about it theway that When a tree dies or the
leaves of a plant or a tree die, they go back to the earth and
bring life to other species.
So there's always the ability towaken out of grief to the love
all around, and Breaker Dawnshowed us this.
(59:35):
So after a few weeks of justtrying to figure out what I
could do to help her, I startedstudying essential oils, and it
took an awful long time backthen, in 2008, 2009, to figure
out what essential oils, how toeven administer essential oils
(59:56):
to horses and what essentialoils and how to do it and all of
that.
But finally, after about a monthand a half to two months armed
with this, and she was stillstaring off at the woods, maybe
I'm exaggerating, I can'tremember, but it seemed like it
was that long.
I finally figured it out andwent and got the essential oils.
And I'd had this thought, in thebooks I'd loved Heart, the
(01:00:18):
Heartland series of books, whichare horse books for every young
person, Amy's mother thecharacter's mother used to offer
essential oils to horses.
So that's what gave me a clue toeven try this.
And so I went out and I triedessential oils and they were so
effective.
(01:00:39):
at helping Dawn move through hergrief and depression and come
back to us.
She didn't come back fully.
She, but she only came backabout 90%, but that's okay.
After just a few sessions withthe essential oils, she was able
to shed a lot of that heavyenergy.
And so The lesson that she wantsto give us there and that's
(01:01:02):
actually what led to our wholeline of essential oils that we
have today that have helped somany hundreds and even thousands
of people.
And the lesson in that is theability to awaken out of grief
to the love that's all aroundyou.
And I think that every one of ushas that opportunity, the love
(01:01:26):
is there, and we may have tostay sleeping in the grief for a
little while, but when you areready to waken out of it, There
is love everywhere.
Another thing that Breaker Dandid was she didn't baby her
riders.
She was so funny.
And she wasn't a dangeroushorse.
(01:01:49):
She was very safe.
But if her riders were notpaying attention, and not doing
the job they were supposed to bedoing, she would just scrape
them off and look at them andsay, sucks to be you.
She had no remorse whatsoever.
It was on them if they fell.
And it was, anytime they fell itwasn't because of anything nasty
(01:02:11):
or anything that they, that shehad done.
It was because of their owninattention.
or a mistake that they mighthave made, or that I might have
made, but she didn't takeresponsibility for other
people's issues, and that's thelesson in that.
She was who she was, and theyneeded to be who they were, and
(01:02:31):
they needed to takeresponsibility.
for themselves.
She I just got the biggest kickout of that.
We have two horses here, Buddyand Star, that will just about
turn themselves inside out tokeep their riders on their back
and make sure that they don'tfall.
Star will even stop to make surethat a rider doesn't fall off of
(01:02:52):
her.
And Dawn didn't have thatcompunction at all.
If they fell, It was on them.
Another thing that was reallyunique about Breaker Dawn is she
was always at the bottom of thepecking order in our herd.
And she often was the horse thatgot picked on.
(01:03:15):
And she couldn't have cared lessabout that.
She was so completelycomfortable.
With who she was, could youplease live in the classroom?
And she never bothered to try toclimb any ladder.
She never bothered to try tomove up in the packing order.
(01:03:36):
She literally did not care.
what others thought of her.
And in the meantime, she wouldgo to horse shows, even as the
last horse show she attended, she was 21, and she came home
with a ribbon, which is unheardof.
She was winning at the shows.
(01:03:57):
Her sweetness, one over people, one over other horses.
She just so accepted who shewas.
She really didn't care about therest.
So the next lesson she wanted toleave us with is just about self
(01:04:17):
acceptance.
and being comfortable with whoyou are.
And she also very clearly toldme as I was preparing for this
podcast, she wanted you to knowthat you don't have to change
who you are to be part of agroup.
It's important to maintain yourindividuality.
And also it doesn't matter whereyou are in the pecking order of
(01:04:41):
the group.
She acknowledged that everyonehas the need to belong somewhere
and to something.
But when we do, the way webelong is up to us, and our
acceptance of it is up to us.
And we also don't need to acceptany groups that we don't want to
belong in.
She never ever changed who shewas for anyone.
(01:05:06):
Don also, though, being so lowin the packing order, Very early
on, Big Buddy fell in love withher.
Now Big Buddy is one of thebigger horses in our herd.
He's a little, he's quite highin the packing order.
And their relationship was thatof a married couple for most of
(01:05:30):
the 16 years.
He's much younger than her.
And we always joked that she wasa cougar having such a much
younger man.
And the two of them were justalways together and googly eyed
over each other.
So from that, she formed thisalliance and partnership, and
(01:05:51):
then Big Buddy providedprotection of her.
He was very chivalrous and itwas beautiful.
She always had to put herself inthe barn every dawn and every
dusk when she couldn't see, justfor her own safety.
And she just managed thatherself.
She put herself in every, Dawnand every dusk, you would find
(01:06:12):
Breaker Dawn in the barn.
Big Buddy didn't always used togo with her, but a couple of
times she got beaten up by someother horses while she was in
there.
And then he began going everytime with her.
And he would stand between herand the other horses so that
nobody could get at her.
(01:06:32):
And toward the end he wouldoften bring her into the stalls
ahead of the other horses sothat he could position himself.
So that he could protect her, especially as she became more
aged and infirm, and it was justso beautiful to see.
I asked her what the message wasin forming these partnerships
(01:06:56):
and alliances, and she said itwas quite simple.
You don't have to do all thejobs.
That was the message she wantedto give us there.
Nidan was a beautiful mover.
And she was spunky and sassyright up until the end.
(01:07:17):
Once more, her message is aroundauthenticity.
She said, be who you are andlove who you are, no matter who
that is.
At the end of her life, I, weall, the four of us who were
here with her, noticed Therelief and freedom, that was the
(01:07:42):
predominant feeling that we allfelt, just the relief and
freedom at the end when she wasable to shed that earth suit
that was no longer working forher.
And it was just so beautiful andpredominant.
I asked her, what was themessage in that?
(01:08:03):
And she said, it was, Alwaysrevel in your freedom.
And she wanted to let me knowthat freedom was always
available.
And it makes me think back to Ican't think of his name, Frankl,
the beautiful survival ofAuschwitz.
who kept himself going by justsaying they can't control my
(01:08:27):
thoughts.
So even when you have no freedomin one or another or any area of
your life as that beautifulperson did, freedom was always
available to you.
And she showed me that althoughshe was blind for the last three
years, She had other senses, soshe could still smell, she could
(01:08:48):
still hear and so she evenshowed that as even if one gift
or one ability isn't availableto us, just use the others.
Freedom is always there.
Revel in it.
And the last message thatBreaker Dawn has for us today is
(01:09:11):
that I think she facedeverything, every situation in
her life with courage, grace, and tenacity.
And she wants us each to knowthat we can do that too.
So I'd like to move into ameditation today to just help us
(01:09:35):
integrate some of those lessonsinto our own lives.
And to that end, I'm just goingto invite you to make yourself
comfortable, close your eyes.
Place your hands comfortably onyour body, giving yourself
Reiki, taking a few deep breathsand just allowing yourself to
(01:09:57):
relax and be fully present herein this moment in time.
I invite you to imagine thatyou're here with me at the farm,
Hidden Brook Farm, and thatwe're together, all of us, in
(01:10:19):
the pasture with the horses.
And just imagine roots extendingfrom your feet deeply into the
earth, grounding you firmly.
Feel the energy of the divineearth rising up through the
(01:10:40):
roots, filling your body with atremendous sense of stability
and peace.
We now call upon the energy ofReiki, inviting it to flow
through and around us,visualizing the Reiki symbols.
(01:11:03):
In your mind's eye, the powersymbol glowing brightly,
strengthening the flow of theenergy, the harmony symbol
bringing emotional and mentalbalance, and the distance symbol
(01:11:25):
connecting us to the wisdom ofthe past and present, across all
time and space.
We also invite the spirit ofwisdom, courage, and
adaptability to join us bringingthese qualities into our
meditation.
(01:11:45):
And if there are any times whenyou have felt guilt or grief or
shame or blame, imbalancedempathy, I invite you to just
let that go now and just allowthe energy to take care of you
for you.
(01:12:09):
It is always unfortunate thatour animals don't live as long
as we do.
And I invite you to just releaseany pain that may be lingering
over any animals that you haveever lost.
in the past, even if they arehuman or two legged.
(01:12:41):
I imagine, I invite you toimagine that you're standing
here in this beautiful meadowwith us, the sun shining warmly,
and in the distance you see abeautiful white horse surrounded
(01:13:02):
with soft golden light.
And as she approaches you withher life lessons, You feel a
deep sense of both peace andlove.
And this wise, gentle presencebegins to communicate her wisdom
(01:13:22):
to you.
She invites you to reflect upona time when you felt
unappreciated or misunderstood.
She asks you to consider how youwere able to trust your
(01:13:44):
intuition to make any necessarychanges in your life.
And she applauds you forembracing being true to your
nature in all aspects of yourlife.
(01:14:16):
She invites you now to think ofa challenge that you faced where
traditional solutions didn'twork.
Remember how you found analternative way?
Planning and preparing toovercome the obstacle?
(01:14:40):
