Pam & Simba (00:55):
On this week's podcast, one of my horses,
Simba, has asked me to tell youhis story.
I'm gonna put a YouTube link inthe.
In the podcast in case you'dlike to see the video of this
and see Simba here, he's got areally unique story.
But before we begin, I justwanna let you know that in

(01:19):
December, if you're interestedin the animal classes in six
days, I've got a level one andtwo class followed by an animal
communication class on theweekend, and then on a Monday
and Tuesday Animal Reiki levelone and two.
So Simba has a really uniquestory.

(01:40):
He came here eight years ago onHalloween, and it's funny story,
actually, my husband found an adfor him online, and because he
is half Belgian, which is a.
Breed of horses that my fatherand my grandfather raised and

(02:03):
that we showed, and he is halfappaloosa, which is what I raise
and used to show.
My husband thought that Simbamight be a nice Addition to our
herd and that he might be ableto handle some of the heavy
riders.
And when he suggested that Iasked him who he was and what he
had done with my husband, thehusband that was always telling

(02:26):
me that I had too many horsesand that they were too
expensive.
In the video, if you wanna panout to the other horses right
now, Pierre, and just show thatthere are 12 horses here, in
fact.
But we made arrangements.
I contacted Simba's owner, hewas for sale, his caregiver, and

(02:50):
I told her, explained that I wasan animal communicator and that
I would have to check with himand make sure that he wanted to
come to our place.
Because we're a teachingfacility, the horses have Reiki
and they tend to do energy workor support my energy work, and I
want to, I always wanna makesure any animal that comes here

(03:12):
understands that and wants to bea part of that dynamic.
And Simba's caretaker thoughtthat made a lot of sense.
She thought it was cool, butwhen I started asking him
questions, he started noddinghis head for yes and shaking his
head no for no.

(03:32):
And.
Here.
His owner and the owner's momwere a little bit amazed.
In the end, Simba decided thathe wasn't really quite done
working with his caretaker.
He had a very deep bond with herbut she simply couldn't afford
to keep him in a boardingfacility anymore.

(03:56):
She was going back to collegeand Simba himself.
Did that he come and live withus, but still remain as her
horse.
And when I told her that, washis suggestion, she thought it
was amazing and readily agreed.
So we put together a leasearrangement and agreement for a

(04:19):
period of two years while shewas at school.
And during that time in sixyears ago, in fact Simba got
sick, but let me backtrack.
As I was on my way to go and getSimba, he is a very special
horse.
He my truck broke down in themiddle of nowhere and I managed

(04:44):
to get a ride to a restaurant.
I managed to get a tow and myhusband was able to come and get
me, and.
She needed Simba out of hisfacility by the end of the
month, which was October 31st,and I was heading down to get
him on the 29th.
I hadn't had any trouble with mytruck, but it broke down.

(05:06):
A, local mechanic came and gotit and fixed it.
And in fact, what happened wasit was ready on the 31st, which
was not the day that I intendedto go get Simba the day that the
veil is the thinnest, but wewere up against it because my,
his caretaker couldn't reallyafford another month's rent, so

(05:30):
I went down to get him on the31st.
But in the meantime, on thetwin, on the 30th, I was
teaching a Reiki class, andduring that class I.
Connected with Simba with thedistance symbol, and asked him
if maybe he had any spiritattachments that needed to clear

(05:51):
before he came to our property.
And I was stunned because I'venever really come across a horse
like him before or since He saidyes.
In fact, he did.
And he showed me that there wereroughly 2000 spirit attachments
connected with him.
I'd never seen anything likethat before.

(06:14):
I said, How can that be?
And he explained that he's a bighorse, and that was one way that
he used to help people was heused to scoop up their spirit
attachments and take it intohimself.
That was very unique and webegan clearing Simba.
But he also showed that one ofthe reasons he wanted to come to

(06:37):
our property is that he had asense that with the Reiki energy
that we had, and that he couldfeel from me, that it might give
him some protection from all ofthese spirit attachments.
So Simba arrived and he reallywas I, teasingly call him the
Cowardly Lion or the cowardlyhorse.

(07:00):
He was a lovely horse, butscared of everything, and so he
might be going along and thenhe'd just spin four circles in
really rapid succession.
Don't let his size fool you.
He's a.
Very athletic and can movereally quickly.
And so he wasn't a good optionfor our bigger students at all

(07:24):
because many of them needed avery steady horse and weren't
agile enough to work with him.
Now, the only person braveenough to get on his back was
my.
Caroline, Caroline and Simbaformed a really tight bond and

(07:45):
she, I've watched her flythrough the air, I don't know
how many times, and she did windup with a concussion that we
then healed with Reiki.
But he really was a, verynervous.
and that carried on for thefirst two years.

(08:07):
And then after he was with usfor two years, six years ago, he
developed a tumor in his eye andhe still didn't belong to us.
Then he does now, don't you?
You belong here.
All right.
But his person used to comevisit him occasionally and come

(08:27):
out for a ride, and she was sohappy to see him.
She'd never seen him quite asrelaxed and happy as he
eventually got to be here, buthe was still fairly high strung
and still nervous at times.
But he had come a long way andhe had developed a tumor in his

(08:50):
eye and the veterinariansthought it was a very common
tumor.
And it's something that shows upa lot with Belgian draft horses,
which he, is half Belgian.
And so they really thought itwas going to be this simple,
benign tumor that we couldremove and it would be fine.
So in September, six years ago,we.

(09:13):
The tumor and it didn't come allthe way and it wouldn't stop
bleeding.
And something made me decidethat even though they were quite
certain, it was a benign tumor,it something made me go ahead
and send it to pathology and getit tested.
And it turned out that it was avery rare.

(09:36):
Type of cancer that had a verystrong vascular system.
So for two weeks we couldn't getthe bleeding to stop and Simba's
wonderful veterinarians wouldcome out every day and put
pressure compression bandages onhis face.
It was the only thing we coulddo.

(09:57):
The bleeding.
But during that time, the tumorgrew back within a week and a
half to be one and a half timesthe size that it was.
It was about the size of awalnut and we were trying to
save his eye, but it didn't looklike that was going to be
possible.
So one of the veterinarians fromPrince Edward Rhode Island, one

(10:18):
of the specialists was over and.
She said that she would stay.
She was heading home and shejust stopped in on her way home
and she said she would stay thenight and perform the surgery
at, in the morning.
That would save his life.
And my husband and I were aboutto take our, his first ever trip

(10:41):
to Europe for our 20th weddinganniversary.
I said we're leaving tomorrow atsuppertime.
Would we be able to do thesurgery in, 10 days when we come
home?
And her advice was that if wewaited 10 days, there would be
no horse left.

(11:02):
That it was a very, aggressiveand very unusual type of tumor.
So of course we made thearrangements to get him in and
she did the surgery and removedthe eye, and the surgery went
extremely well.
The bleeding stopped and mywonderful assistant, Bertina, I

(11:23):
don't know what I'd do withouther, she said, You guys go to
England.
I've got this.
And the is, I know that she'sprobably more diligent with his
medical care and more on timethan I am.
I knew that.
Have a chance to forget, but Iknew she would never forget.
So we did have our trip andSimba really recovered

(11:46):
beautifully.
When he was recovering with oneeye in the pasture, at first he
stayed on his own, but veryquickly he showed us that he was
ready to go back in with theherd.
So we did let him go back withthe herd and prior to his
surgery.
Simba and Buddy used to do avery exciting and interesting

(12:13):
play where they would rear up ateach other and pretend to bite
and wheel around and kick.
And I was a little bit worriedabout Sei Simba about a week or
a week and a half after hissurgery and I was out here in
the field visiting them.
In fact, big buddy came over andshowed me how the rest of the

(12:37):
herd was helping Simba out.
They would go on the side wherehe had his good eye and they
would lead him and he wouldfollow them and big buddy
actually put his, face on theside of Simba's.
Good eye and started doing theirrearing play, but instead of
going way up on their hind legsthe way they usually did, he

(13:00):
would just go about a foot offthe ground and Simba would go a
foot off the ground.
And I knew at that moment, ThatSimba was gonna be all right
because the horses really myReiki horses, and I think these
horses have had Reiki since2011, and Simba has had Reiki
since he arrived.

(13:21):
His caregiver thought that wasgoing to be a good idea for him,
and it did help calm his nervesa bit, but he was still largely
a nervous horse or a little toonervous for my riding lessons.
so experienced.
Caroline rode him anyway.
She was one of my mostexperienced riders, and

(13:44):
eventually she did fine withhim, but I couldn't really trust
him with beginners.
And so I knew at the moment thatBud showed me that they were
going to show him how to playagain and show him how to
integrate back with the herdthat he was going to be all
right.
And so after that, I wasteaching my horseback riding

(14:10):
lessons, and I'd been home acouple of weeks from our trip
and one of my riding studentsapproached me at the end of our
Saturday morning writing lesson, and she said, Pam, I just want
you to know.
while you were in England.

(14:32):
We organized raffles and bakesales and yard sales and every
other kind of fundraiser, andthey, took in donations and she
presented me with an envelope, which actually was enough to pay
for.
Simba's second surgery.

(14:53):
And of course that just broughtme to tears.
I didn't expect anything likethat.
And no, we didn't really havethe funds to cover his surgery,
but there was never any questionwhether he would get it and we
would figure it out and theywent and figured it out for, us.

(15:14):
Not only was I blown away bytheir kindness and generosity,
but so was Simba and.
He actually I, communicated withhim and I said, Did you know
that was going on?
And he said, Yes, he did.
Bertina had arranged it and hadgot everybody going.

(15:34):
She knew that we could handleone surgery, but the second
surgery was going to be prettydear.
And so she actually had arrangedthe, all of this with, him when
she was.
Paddock and looking after himand giving him his medications
and so on.

(15:55):
And Simba came in and, communicated with me after that
and he said, Can you believe howmuch they love me?
And I said, Yes, I can.
But he couldn't, He had a verygood life up until then, but he
was just a very nervous animal,a nervous horse, and he was

(16:22):
blown away by how many peoplehad stepped in to try and help
him.
And from that moment on, Simbabecame the most dependable horse
that I had.
As soon as.
I had healed enough.
He let me know that he wanted togo back to work, and he let me

(16:44):
know that because he felt soloved.
And so appreciated.
He was going to do his very bestto be as gentle and quiet and
steady for his students as hecould be.
It was night and day.
He, became one of my mostdependable horses.

(17:05):
I can put beginners on Simba nowand know that he's gonna hold it
together because he really foundhis place in the world and he
really felt so loved.
that was that was it for him.
So it was really a, beautifulstory.
And the reason we're tellingSimba's story today and it will

(17:31):
go live just a little over aweek, eight days before his
eighth anniversary of being hereis that this summer we noticed
that the tumor was back in theeye socket.
And I was pretty concerned aboutit.
And at first it looked like ouronly option might be just to

(17:54):
keep him comfortable.
And he's, not a super younghorse, but he's only 16 at this
point.
And so he, does still have a fewyears.
And it was sad.
But my veterinarian, I reallythink the world of him and he

(18:16):
suggested that we get it checkedthough by a specialist just to
see.
And in fact, the specialist toldus that we could X-ray it and
see if it was operable and if itwas that she would be happy to
recommend the operation.
So fortunately, just a few weeksago, we found out that the tumor

(18:40):
is operable.
It took about a month to get thex-rays just because our.
Wonderful veterinarians here arereally busy and shorthanded at
the moment.
And in that month myself and allof the students did just steady
Reiki to the tumor itself andjust with the intention, and I

(19:02):
could feel it beginning toshrink.
So by the time the x-ray wasdone, in fact the it, it's
showing that The tumor isoperable.
So tomorrow morning at seven inthe morning, Simba is going to
go for his operation and he veryspecifically asked if I would

(19:28):
consider making this week'spodcast his, and just asking
people if they would.
Sending him Reiki.
His operation is actually goingto be Tuesday morning, but we'll
take him over there tomorrow andget him settled and it looks
like he should, as long aseverything goes, be able to come

(19:50):
home by Wednesday.
So it does look like the.
The tumor has great margins andit is very vascular, so it does
need to we do need to transport'em about four hours away, or a
little more to the Prince Soberisland, to the University of Pei

(20:10):
Veterinary labs.
So just Just to be sure thateverything will go well, should
it should it begin bleeding andso on.
And so Simba's going for hisoperation.
And one of the things that Simbawas very clear is he said he
wanted me to tell his story toyou, just to maybe.

(20:36):
Let you all know how lovely itis to belong and just such an
inspiration that all of thosepeople, even some that we didn't
know very well, that they bandedtogether and contributed to his
surgery.
And he also asked me to put adonation button in the.

(21:00):
In the podcast just to, just incase any of you would like to
contribute toward this surgery, and if everything goes well,
it's actually more expensive totransport in there than the
surgery, but all together itadds up.
And please don't think that,There's any chance that he's not

(21:22):
getting the surgery he is.
But if that's something, if youhave received Reiki from my
wonderful horses, or if it'ssomething that you feel you
would like to contribute to, orif you've been benefiting from
the.
I C R T Animal Reiki Energy thatthese horses helped, I think

(21:46):
that they helped us to bring in.
Then there is a donation buttonin the write up and I'd love to
encourage you to check that out.
And And even just a smalldonation.
He, says, Thank you.
He appreciates the Reiki thatyou will send.

(22:07):
And he appreciates the NAdonations.
And to end today, our podcast,Simba, and I wanted to.

of creation, it all beats in thesame rhythm as your own heart.

(25:08):

cycles of the earth and theheartbeat and rhythms and cycles
