April 10, 2025 11 mins

April 8th marks my second birthday—the anniversary of receiving a second chance at life when I faced near-death from Budd-Chiari syndrome during Easter weekend 2012. This life-threatening condition, which carried an 80% mortality rate, became the catalyst for my spiritual rebirth and renewed purpose.

• Experienced excruciating chest pain while traveling that felt like "15 knives piercing my chest"
• Followed divine guidance to lean forward in order to breathe, which saved my life
• Diagnosed with Budd-Chiari syndrome—a life-threatening blood clot compromising my liver
• Made a spiritual promise while in ICU: "If you give me this, I will devote my life to you"
• Received profound peace and confirmation of healing after praying with a Catholic diocese visitor on Easter Sunday
• Felt God's presence alongside my now-husband Donnie, uniting us spiritually in that hospital room
• Wearing a 1 Corinthians 13 bracelet as a reminder of love's patient, kind, and persevering nature
• Learning that we're meant to live in communion with God and others—"alone sucks"

lives.
So here's your host, sylviaWorsham.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
Hey, lightbringers, it's Sylvia Worsham.
Welcome to Released Out RevealPurpose.
In this episode we're going tobe talking about second chances
and miracles, and today, april8th 2025, is a very special day
for me.
It is my birthday, or should Isay my second birthday, because
it was the day that I received asecond chance at life.

(00:51):
And these three days prior areimportant days in my life
because I reflect back on thatEaster weekend when my then
boyfriend, who then turned intomy second husband, asked my
little boy and I to take a trip, and I had had pain for a couple

(01:14):
of days and didn't think muchof it, because in those years I
was so in love and so full ofhope and longing that I took a
flight, despite my mother'swarnings and my mother's
intuition, and landed in thelargest medical center in Texas,

(01:36):
in Houston.
Luckily, when my boyfriend sawthat I looked pale and very
sickly, decided against drivingovernight to Louisiana and
staying in Houston overnight.
Great idea, because in themiddle of the night I was jolted

(01:57):
awake by a pain that can onlybe described as like 15 knives
piercing my chest.
Every time I took a breath andsomewhere, intuitively, I knew
something was wrong and aprompting came through, lean
forward and you'll be able tobreathe.
And that action, that obediencefrom the Holy Spirit, saved my
life.
It was my first miracle when Ifinally landed in the hospital.

(02:23):
The next day they took severalscans and determined that my
liver was compromised.
They didn't understand on thatSaturday morning of Easter
weekend what was going on, butthey did a scan of my abdomen
and in walked six doctors intomy hospital room and I knew

(02:46):
something was very, very wrong.
None of them made eye contactand they stated, very urgently,
we need to get you into ICU stat.
And what I didn't hear untilmuch later?
My father explained to me thatthe condition that they

(03:09):
discussed with him and mybrother and sister over the
phone was Bud Carey syndrome, and Bud Carey syndrome is
basically a blood clot that iscompromising the liver and can
lead to acute liver failure andrequire a transplant, which is
what the doctors explained to me.
What they failed to tell me inthat moment was that it carried

(03:30):
an 80% chance of death.
My mother heard the specialiston the case tell the ICU
director if you don't get thisgirl a bed, she is going to die
tonight.
So it was critical for them todo what they needed to do and
they were doing things that werenot within label because they

(03:52):
were running against time, andthey were really quite shocked.
I had made it this long.
I should have had massive painand I didn't.
And I know that God'sprovidence was with me and I
felt his strength with meBecause in that moment that
they're describing what ishappening in my body, I closed
my eyes and visualizedsurrendering to God and asking

(04:21):
him for my second chance at life, in fact, begging him and
making a deal with Christ.
If you give me this, I willdevote my life to you.
Sunday morning rolls around nowthis is Easter Sunday morning of
2012, resurrection Day forChristians and in walks, a woman

(04:44):
with the Catholic diocese and Ican still see her to this day
the color of her two-piece suitit was like a shamrock green.
I will never forget her.
And she said Sylvia, can I praywith you?
And Donnie was in the room withme and we formed a circle and
we started reciting the OurFather for the Catholics and the
Lord's prayer for theChristians, and the part where

(05:07):
it said thy will be done onearth as it is in heaven.
I felt a peace wash over me andthe love so immense, it
enveloped the whole room and Ifelt cradled by Christ's arms
and he basically told me I gaveyou a second chance.

(05:27):
I mean, I knew it.
I didn't need confirmation fromdoctors.
And when she left the room, donnie turned to me and said you
felt them too, didn't you?
And I knew that Donnie and Ihad been united even then in
marriage by Christ.
He had blessed our union inthat ICU room and gave us a

(05:49):
spiritual assignment of sortssaying I have answered both your
prayers.
Sylvia will live, she'll gether second chance at life
because she's meant to dosomething totally different.
See, and when I reflect back onthis time, I can tell you that I
have worked in so many ways forhim, for Christ, because I owe

(06:18):
him so much.
I mean, he died for me on thecross, and the most horrible
death possible, and the mosthorrible death possible.
And on top of that, he was withme in those early morning hours
when I felt that first painthat jolted me awake and gave me
guidance.
And, guys, I was so obedient tohim.

(06:41):
Because here's the thing withfree will and obedience when you
run into turning points likethis in your life, you have
choices.
Sometimes it's not choices youwant to make, but they are
choices, right.
You can stay in thecircumstances that you win or

(07:01):
you can make a change and youcan stay obedient to what god is
guiding you to do because, yousee, god sees everything all the
wounds, all your pain.
He sees your parents' pain andhow their wounds created within
them.
He sees it all and when youinvite him into your life and

(07:28):
ask him to guide you, he doesevery time because, guys, he's
been there with you in the thickand the thin of it.
He has been with you a longtime.
If anything, you have abandonedhim.
If you have not felt hispresence, have you been going on

(07:52):
in your life and not includinghim in the simplest of decisions
, even if it's?
How do I react to my husbandtoday?
How tell me how to do this?
You know his heart, you knowwhat he thinks, you know what he
needs and you do it becauseit's important to that person.

(08:13):
I'm not.
Today was just a very specialday for me and I, in all these
years, have felt God'sprotection In the toughest of

(08:34):
moments.
I have felt his love and youknow, in these days I wear this
bracelet because, like I said,in the next 40 days I'm going to
be making a change that God hasbeen preparing me for all this
time, and that is totalsubmission in my marriage.
That is not something that camevery easily to me, and so I'm

(08:59):
wearing 1 Corinthians 13, verse1 through 8, which is always
read at wedding ceremonies.
It's the love is patient, loveis kind.
Hold up, I got to move itaround.
It does not envy, it does notboast, it is not proud, it does

(09:22):
not dishonor others, it is notself-seeking, it is not easily
angered.
It keeps no record of wrongs.
That's my favorite part.
Love does not.
It's not wanting to help mehere.
Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth.

(09:44):
It always protects, alwaystrusts, always hopes, always
perseveres.
That's my favorite too.
Love never fails.
Perseveres that's my favoritetoo.
Love never fails.
So I just want to end with this.

(10:07):
Whatever season in life you findyourself in, invite a man, even
on simple request.
He just wants to be part ofyour life.
He wants to be part of yourworld.
He wants to be part of yourworld.
Don't do this alone.
Alone sucks, and alone is notthe way we're meant to be in
this life.
We're meant to be in communionwith him, in communion with

(10:35):
others.
I'm Sylvia Worsham.
Thank you so much for tuning into Second Chances and Miracles.
Have a wonderful week, staysafe.
Love you all.
