Parenting is the most personal thing you can do, it is the ultimate job, and as such training helps you better understand yourself and your child. Ruth Taylor counts herself lucky that she was fortunate to be trained as a parenting facilitator before she had children but admits that putting the calmly thought out plans into action was at times much harder than she thought.
After losing her mother to cancer she decided to start recording her experiences and ideas, to provide a record for her own children and as encouragement to others. She continued to make notes recording the impact, on her children, of moving from England to New Zealand, being made redundant and other life experiences she had not necessarily planned for.
Though the books follow her girls through different ages and stages, there are concepts which crop up in later books which would have been useful to know earlier, and guidelines in earlier books which really help provide refocus when parenting the older versions.
The world we live in is constantly changing but learning how to communicate, build resilience, make memories and overall cope with the personal nature of the role is vital.
Some of the topics covered:
· The importance of non verbal communication
· Behaviour strategies
· The formation of routines
· Understanding and coping with change
· Mastering creativity
· Understanding grief
· Building support networks and childcare options
· How to build memorable memories
· Planning and perseverance
