for this episode of RevelationWithin on the go.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
Oh well, welcome back
.
This is our third episode ofour special three episode series
the truth about peaceful eating.
What no one told us, today'sepisode is how to make peace
with food and your body.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
For reals, for
realsies, heidi, I don't know,
is this even possible?
Maybe we shouldn't even do thispodcast, oh dear, just kidding.
I know it's possible, I know itis and I'm excited.
I'm excited that we get toshare this today, yay, okay.
So you know, if you all outthere have journeyed with us
(01:18):
through episodes one and two, you've already heard us talk
about how the real problem isn'tfood and how mind renewal
changes everything.
So today we want to bring itall home and answer the
questions so many of us haveasked Is it actually possible to
make peace with food and mybody?
Speaker 1 (01:42):
Not only is it
possible, it is what God wants
for us.
He did not put food on thisplanet to torment us.
We've said that again and again.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
Yes, so true, so good
, thank God.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
For years, you know,
I thought that peace with food
would come.
When I finally got it right.
I mean, I don't even know whatit is or what right would be,
but like when I stoppedovereating, finally, or when I
got rid of all the weight andkept it off for some magical
amount of time, then I wouldnever get it again I don't know
(02:17):
when I stopped struggling, buthere's something that I think
we've both learned, christina, and to our listeners, of course,
peace doesn't wait for you, or?
me at the end of a perfectjourney.
Yes, peace meets us on the way.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
Oh, Heidi, I love
that.
Let's just say that again.
Peace meets you on the way.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
Yes, because we're
all on a journey.
All of us are on a journey withthe Lord.
Peace meets us on the way.
So we talk about this all thetime in Revelation Within, you
can't fail at grace.
Oh, yes, somebody needs to hearthat today.
(03:04):
Yes, somebody needs to hearthat today.
No, I do, I know, I do too.
I do too.
The world will tell you tryharder, be better, come on, get
it together, fix yourself.
Let's go, pull yourself up,come on now.
But the gospel says oh my gosh, what does the gospel say?
(03:25):
You're already loved, you'realready enough and you're
already free.
Oh my gosh, how amazing thattruth is, how amazing.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
One of my favorite
verses.
I say that a lot, I'm sure, butin 2 Corinthians, 12, 9, this
is one of my favorites.
My grace is sufficient for you,for my power is made perfect in
weakness.
Now, if you recall, and I can'tjust quote that verse and keep
it out of its context, butbecause it's so important.
(04:01):
Paul was struggling withsomething that kept setting him
back in some way.
We don't know what it is thescriptures don't tell us, but he
asked God please remove thisfrom me, please remove this from
me.
Three times he asked God toremove it and God said no each
time.
And then he said grace issufficient for you, paul.
(04:24):
Yes.
For Christina, for Heidi, forthe listeners, oh, for me too,
yes.
And he said when his power ismade perfect in weakness, that
means that our struggles, nomatter how much we may think
they disqualify us, they don't.
They are not disqualifying, they do not have the power to
(04:46):
disqualify us.
It's the very place where hisgrace gets to show up most
clearly which is so awesome.
I don't have to be perfect, Idon't have to have it all
together.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
So I remember a day
when I caught myself yeah, it
was yesterday mindlessly eatingin the kitchen.
Yesterday was a really, reallybig day for our family.
There was a lot of excitementand angst and stress and
celebration.
You've got to tell us about it,yeah, so we've had these three
precious, precious girls all 19.
(05:21):
One of them is our daughterliving in our house now for
almost a year, and it's time forthem to fly the nest.
Oh, it's time for them to flyaway.
They're going to be fiveminutes away, heidi.
Five minutes.
This is killing me.
Might as well be the moon, huh, christina?
Oh, it might as well be themoon.
(05:42):
How am I going to get all myhugs and kisses?
Whose hair am I going to braid?
Okay?
So anyway, yesterday we foundout that they were accepted for
this adorable little old, old, old, creaky house.
It's so cute.
And we found out yesterday, wewere so excited.
But I am having about 25 mixedemotions about this.
(06:06):
I am sad, I am happy, I'mexcited.
I'm like no, I am fearful Allkinds of things.
Are they ready?
I'm not sure.
Yes, I'm sure, no, I'm not.
It's like I am just.
I have all these emotions.
And so yesterday I went to thekitchen without even realizing
(06:27):
it, and I was mindlessly eating, and normally well, normally
would be in the past, before Ilearned to renew my mind, before
I understood, god's grace, Iwould have spiraled into shame.
But instead I paused and Iheard that gentle whisper
Christina, you don't have tohide, you can come to me here,
(06:52):
even here, christina, I'm here,wow.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
I mean, that's peace,
even in the kitchen.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
Even in the kitchen,
jesus loves the kitchen.
You know all those times in theNew Testament he was eating
with everybody.
There is so much peace there.
I mean that's a way to livethat I can do.
I can do it, I can sustain it,I can live in God's grace.
That doesn't mean that I'mnever struggling.
I mean I've been renewing mymind and eating according to
(07:25):
fullness of hunger and all thosethings.
I've been doing all of that for11 years.
But I still struggle.
That's okay.
We live in an imperfect world, but knowing that I'm safe in
God's presence, even in themidst of my mess, that's grace.
And there's an unlimited supply.
(07:45):
It's not going to run out.
And I love, I just love thattruth.
I love that reality.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
You know, for years
I've been saying this this
journey isn't about perfection,it's not even about excellence,
because how do we define that?
It usually means I never no,not ever have a problem with
food, eating and all of thatstuff.
What is true is, I believe thisjourney is best kind of
(08:17):
summarized when what do I dowith my mess ups?
What do I do with my failures?
It puts God on display.
When I prevail on his grace andsay God, I know I am not
perfect.
You have known and you willalways know I'm not perfect, but
you have a plan for me, for me,to learn from this mistake.
(08:38):
And so, really, this journeyisn't about pulling together one
perfect day after the other.
No, it's about what I do withmy failures when they happen.
And no, this is not makingprovision for my flesh.
That's right.
That's a lie.
What it is is it's makingprovision for grace.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
I mean because God's
grace is there.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
It's there no matter
what my failure looks like, what
my mess up looks like.
It's not never struggling and Ilove this.
It's knowing we're safe in themiddle of our messes because
God's presence is there.
Anyway, I just I think it's abeautiful thing to recognize.
Failure doesn't define meanymore.
(09:24):
It never was supposed to, but Ilet it and, in fact, welcomed
it.
But, now there's a new seasonhere.
And then season is one ofallowing God's grace to show me
how to move forward, how to moveforward in that grace.
I love that.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
Anyway, I love it too
.
I love it so much.
And again, when you talk aboutthat, heidi, what comes up in me
is hope, and what comes up inme is this thought I can do that
.
You know, I can live that way.
I can actually live and thrivethat way, like that sounds so
good, that sounds so refreshing.
Speaker 1 (10:02):
So let's look at
Psalm 23, verses one through
three.
This passage is so familiar tomany of us.
The Lord is my shepherd.
I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in greenpastures, he leads me beside
quiet waters.
Yes, freshes my soul, andthat's what peaceful eating is
(10:24):
really.
It's not pressure, but pastureinstead.
It's not shame, but stillnessinstead.
I love that.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
I love it too, so so
much.
Okay.
So here's our invitation to youtoday Take a deep breath and
ask yourself honestly what wouldit feel like to stop striving,
what would it feel like to stopbelieving that your body is a
(10:54):
problem to fix, believing thatyour body is a problem to fix?
What would it feel like tobelieve that God is not
disappointed in you, becausethat is where peace begins?
And there might be some otherquestions that you want to ask
yourself, but I love, I lovethose.
That's where peace begins.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
And if you're not
really sure, you can turn them
into questions that you ask theLord to show you.
What would it feel like, lord,to stop striving, yes.
What would it feel like to stopbelieving that my body is a
problem to fix?
Yes.
What would it feel like tobelieve that you, lord, are not
disappointed in?
Speaker 2 (11:35):
me.
Speaker 1 (11:36):
Oh, my goodness,
because that's what really
matters is what are God'sthoughts?
Yes, yeah, yes.
So a third scripture we want tolook at in Galatians 5.1,.
It says it is for freedom thatChrist has set us free.
Stand firm, then, and do notlet yourselves be burdened again
(11:58):
by a yoke of slavery.
So many of us, so many of us,for so many of us, food rules
and body shame have become aheavy yoke of slavery.
I mean, think about it.
Think about the mentalbandwidth, over the course of
years of our lives, that hasbeen given to this struggle.
(12:22):
Think of the words of well, don't think too long on them.
Self-deprecation, the way we'veput ourselves down, the way
we've hidden when we didn't wantto be seen because of shame.
Wow, when I think, of courseGod cares about this.
Look at what it's done to us.
Oh my goodness.
(12:43):
Food rules you know that wecan't sustain.
Even if we can hold it togetherfor a while, it's not something
we can live with.
And that body shame, oh mygoodness, it's so heavy.
Jesus is offering us freedomfrom those things, yes, and we
want to get on board with theLord.
Speaker 2 (13:04):
Over the past few
weeks, we've just scratched the
surface of what it means toexperience peaceful eating.
So, inside our courseTransforming Grace, Discovering
Peaceful Eating we walk this outslowly, week by week, with
practical tools, teaching andcommunity and Zoom calls.
(13:26):
Yeah, that's the community partright Zoom calls and a place to
chat and discuss things and askquestions and just be real with
each other, whether you join usfor this class or not.
But it's really going to begreat and we really hope that
you can make peace with food.
This is a truth.
(13:47):
This is absolutely true.
You can make peace with food.
And here's another one you canmake peace with your body,
because God's grace has alreadymade peace with you.
Anything is possible with Godand we know this to be true and
many of you listening know thisto be true.
(14:09):
Many of you are walking thisright now.
You can make peace with food.
You can make peace with yourbody.
It is 100% possible.

life changing, for us too, oh

Speaker 1 (15:10):

Well, we kind of want to leaveyou today with these words from
Isaiah 55, verses two and three.
It's just some really goodquestions actually.
Why spend money on what is notbread and your labor on what
does not satisfy?
Wow, listen, listen to me,remember.
This is the Lord speaking.
