Everybody's got an opinion.
Every Californian, Virginian inVirginia, it's so hard to tell
who to cho and who to ignore.
Someone's gotta settle The Score.
Trey and Chelsey will helpyou choose who's win, which.
(00:31):
Hello.
Well, hello and welcometo Review That Review.
We are the podcast thatis dedicated to reviewing
reviews.
That's Chelsey Donn
and that's Trey Gerrald.
And together we are
the Review Queen
(00:53):
here at Review That Review.
We believe in balance, thegood, the bad, and the kvetchy.
So it's only fair that wetake a moment to vet it out.
Would you like to
let A Complaint?
Yes.
Thank you for the opportunity.
Yes, of course.
Today I wanna Lodge A Complaint.
Environmentally, if you're on a verybusy bus, if you're on a very busy
(01:17):
subway, if you are flying on an airplaneand, um, you're the first to be seated
and no one else has arrived at yourrow, uh, if you're sitting on a bench,
I want to Lodge A Complaint againstthe entitlement of putting your bag
in the seat next to you acting like.
(01:38):
Deserves the seat more than a human being.
This happens all the time in the NewYork City subways, where people will, I,
I understand no one wants to put theirstuff on the floor, so put it on your lap.
Don't take up a seat for your bag.
(01:59):
It drives me crazy because itsays so much about who you are.
Because you have no awareness of all ofthe people standing around, the older
people, the pregnant ladies, people thathave a cast, and they need to sit down.
(02:19):
If you are gonna take up the space foryour Jan Sport book bag, go yourself.
Have a little perspective.
It drives me crazy on airplanestoo, because, you know.
Odds are someone sit sitting in theseat next to you, especially if they're
like now charging for the roller boards.
(02:41):
But you know that you won't know ifthat seat beside you is free until
we're actually like in the air.
So why are you just puttingyour sweater in your bag, in
the seat, in the middle seat?
What is wrong with you?
You know someone is is gonna come andthen you're gonna have to move it.
And it drives me crazy whenthey don't begin to move it.
(03:01):
You have to be like, excuse me.
Are you out of your mind?
Everyone have a little perspective abouteveryone else that's ocu occupying the
world with you, like we all wanna sit downand humans that paid for the fair have
the right to sit over your multiple bags.
(03:23):
That's my complaint.
I have to add it to the ledger.
God, it drives me crazy.
Good one.
I'm adding that to the ledger for sure.
I. I, I totally hear you.
I, I've definitely been guilty ofthis, I think on like Southwest.
'cause you don't wantanyone to sit next to you.
So I kind of will like, turnmy back towards the aisle.
Just be like, make believe I'mlooking for something in my bag.
(03:43):
I've never flown.
Southwest.
Southwest.
You like don't in zones and youdon't have like an assigned seat.
I
could.
I, but obviously
at the end of the day, Trey,if like somebody really
needed the seat, of course.
They're gonna sit there, but I'mnot gonna lie and pretend like
I've never tried to discouragesomeone from sitting next to me.
(04:05):
Well, of course wait.
But the idea of flying Southwest, that makes me so anxious because
you know, everyone is putting stuff
I know.
And now you can like pay forearly bird, but then it's like
everybody's paying for early birds.
So it's a free for all.
Yeah.
That's a nightmare.
Yeah.
I don't usually Southwest nightmare, but
(04:27):
people love it.
Okay.
Well now that we've fetched it out, Trey.
Mm-hmm.
Should we go head to head?
Yes.
But before we do, if you are lovingthe show, can you just do us a quick,
solid, hit the like button below.
Leave a little comment.
Tell us something that made you laugh.
The product we're gonnabe reviewing today.
(04:47):
Tell us if you've ever used it, anysimilar products, you know, hit subscribe.
It's simple, it's free, it'squick, and it means a lot to us.
Yes, please.
We love hearing from you, soplease just leave us a comment.
Maybe we'll read it on the show.
Who knows?
Possibilities are endless,
endless.
All right.
(05:08):
Let's do it.
Let's do it.
Review That.
Review
today is another versus episode, which means Chelsey and I are gonna
be covering both a one star anda five star for the same topic.
That's right.
And for this versus episode, Treyhas selected the one star and
(05:32):
I have selected the five star.
So the only way that we couldpossibly determine who will read
first is if we flip that quota.
And I think it's my turn to guess.
So I'm gonna guess I'mgonna go with heads.
It's tails.
All right, Trey, so you're gonna go first.
Today we are sleuthing through the reviewsection of Viral TikTok, tooth whitening
(05:57):
powder, purely white Deluxe on Amazon.
I don't know if you guys have seenthis, but it's been all over the place.
At the time of this recording.
There are 1078 reviews onAmazon with an overall of 3.6.
Not not amazing.
Amazon notes that 20,000 plusbought this in the past month.
(06:23):
So when you think about that, the ratioof buyers to reviews kind of low, right?
Yeah.
20,000 in a month accordingto purely white deluxe.com.
Our, I'm not leading the witnessby saying that, by the way.
I'm just pointing it out.
According to purely white deluxe.com, ourteeth whitening powder is the first of
its kind, featuring PAP plus a peroxidefree whitening formula designed to remove
(06:48):
stains without causing sensitivity ordamaging enamel developed by dentists.
It delivers safe, effective results whilesupporting your overall oral health.
And you know how you use it isyou just wet your toothbrush,
you dip it in the powder.
With or without your toothpaste, andyou just brush gently for one to two
minutes as usual, rinse thoroughly.
(07:10):
And apparently you're supposed toenjoy a brighter, fresher smile.
But we'll see how true that is.
And they tell you why you'll love it.
They say that it's peroxide free.
It does.
It's not sensitive.
It's gonna give you fresh breath,it's gonna remove stains, it's
gonna support your oral health, allthe things that I just mentioned.
So they're really makinga lot of claims here.
So I think we'll be the judge of that.
(07:33):
And, um, so with all the backgroundin mind Tray, should we jump in
and hear this one star review?
Let's do it.
Review That.
Review.
All right, so yes, I have thisone star review written by Alyssa.
(07:55):
Okay.
On Amazon.
This is, this was purchased in Octoberof 2024, so not really recent at all.
Um, and verified purchase the subject.
Sure.
Not that long ago, but yeah.
Yeah.
I, I still think it's relevant.
Yeah, I would agree.
(08:16):
Um, okay.
The subject is Save Yourself.
Oh my goodness.
Okay.
And.
Here we go.
Alyssa, eh, I was influenced by TikTokto buy this and start using, I used
it for a few weeks and did not noticeany difference in the whiteness of my
(08:38):
teeth, but I held out hope anyways.
Then a few days ago, mytooth broke out of nowhere.
It has since had chips come off ofit one by one, and I am now facing
(08:58):
serious dental work to get it fixed.
I have also noticed painin my molars as well.
One could say there is no way to provethis product is causing all of this, but
this product is the only new thing I haveintroduced to my oral hygiene routine.
(09:22):
In years, I have never had anyissues with my teeth at all.
I can't prove that this product has causedany of this, but I can only assume and
warn people as I wish I could go backand tell myself not to purchase this.
(09:45):
Yikes, that's 51.
People have found this helpful.
That's scary.
All.
So first off the bat, most of you,if you're watching this show, you
already know this fact about me, butmy dad is a dentist and so I know a
little bit about tooth whitening, andI will say that these products, they
(10:07):
are sort of used at your own risk.
My dad does teeth whitening in his office.
And there are some people that arecandidates and some people that are not.
What He'll yeah, he'll look at theindividual patient, look at their
teeth, check their enamel, look attheir sensitivity, various things,
(10:30):
and he will deny people if he doesn'tthink that they're an appropriate
candidate to receive this treatment.
And I've always known thatabout my dad and his office.
So because.
I am weary of a lot of these productsbecause everybody's mouth is different.
Everybody's anatomy is different, their teeth are different, and
(10:53):
people are gonna react differently.
Some people have very sensitive teeth.
Obviously Alyssa has very sensitive teeth.
I don't know if there were warning signsleading up to this for Alyssa with maybe
like we, like I used Crest White striponce and I accidentally pushed the gel
into my gums and like seared my gums.
(11:16):
It was horrible.
I never used it again.
So I don't know if there was a warningfor Alyssa or if this just happened.
Either way.
Horrifying.
Horrifying.
Yeah.
So I have experimented with CrestWhite strips as well, and I once had my
dentist like, do the molds and like yeah.
(11:37):
You know, like the, thelike tubes and stuff.
Mm-hmm.
Um, think about the crest whitestrips is they just always burn.
Like they just hurt.
Yeah.
Um, so, and it's
like the nare if it starts toburn and get that shit off.
Well, that's right.
And that's what's interesting is that.
Alyssa points out, like after like thephysical decaying of the tooth has been
(11:58):
become a prevalent, then they startmentioning there's pain in the molars,
which I think is such a weird thing.
'cause I feel like this is powderthat you put in your brush,
so it's like going everywhere.
So that's different than my experienceof strips where it's on the front.
Right.
But I'm curious because Alyssa pointsout that they used it for a few weeks.
(12:20):
Right?
That's insane.
They, they don't say anything aboutpain, like it seems like, and they're not
like, oh yeah, exactly.
Like, I wanna know what was the sensationwhen you used it and like at what point
did you stop and did you stop usingit and then these things happened?
Like where are we in the timeline?
I'm missing a little bit of the timeline.
I think.
Yeah, I it, I would assume, but Iwish that Alyssa would clarify that.
(12:44):
Because they say they tried it for a fewweeks and they didn't notice anything.
Right.
Which makes me think if therewere negative side effects,
they would've mentioned it.
But I wanna know what came first, likethe pain and then like the chipping
and the tooth broke off, or like thetooth broke off and then it's like
you're freaking out about your mouth andthen you're like, wait, my molar, like
that's very curious to me And to yourpoint, not knowing any of that about.
(13:10):
Some people not beinga, a proper candidate.
It makes me wonder like it, Iappreciate, I think what's valuable
is that Alyssa is, says twice inthis like seven sentence review.
I can't prove it, but Ijust need you to know.
(13:31):
Right.
They pointed out twice, which I think is like.
Very truthful.
They're like skirtingany sort of shadiness.
That's true.
I think it's like an appropriateway of being like, don't sue me.
Also, like Right.
I can't prove it, but I,
but the evidence is pointingtowards I've, you know, had a, this
is the only thing that's changed
that, which I think is sointeresting, the oral hygiene.
(13:54):
Right.
In years.
Years, which I have a question.
Are you brand loyal to likecertain kinds of toothpaste?
I'll be honest, I have beenexperimenting with the tooth whitening.
I think like my teeth aregetting little bit lighter.
Thank you.
So usually, yes.
I was brand loyal.
I always like to use the like pressed, that's like in a, not in a tube.
(14:19):
It's like in a like standup thingthat's like easier to squeeze.
Okay.
It's like a, I think it's twotechnically, two in one mouthwash.
And.
Toothpaste.
But lately I've switched to like amore whitening toothpaste because I
wanted to get more whitening smile.
So
what brand?
I'm
um, the, God, what is it called?
(14:39):
It begins with an M. It's like oldtimey Merlin's, or, I'm so bad.
But it's not
Crest.
Not Crest.
It's like a, yeah, it's adifferent Mar Martin Smolins.
I don't know.
I should know this.
I'm very curious, everyonewatching, will you leave a comment
about what toothpaste to you?
Yeah, the brand specifically, because Idon't, I feel like when I was a kid, we
(15:04):
had Colgate 'cause it was like, it hadthe little like crystals on the inside.
Yes.
And like, and then there wasalso like the three colors.
Oh yeah.
Which, like, what was the, butfor some reason in my adulthood
I just, I, I am very particularabout Crest, which interesting.
I don't know why, I don'tknow where that comes from.
My husband only uses Sensodine,so like, we don't even share
(15:27):
toothpaste, but like, yeah,
people are like veryspecific about their teeth.
I think the reason why I'mactually not as picky is because
growing up we used to use.
The samples.
Samples because of my dad.
So it was like whatever came tothe office, he would just bring
home a box of samples and wewould just like taste it out.
And sometimes it'd be like theflake we had like cinnamon and it
(15:48):
was like, Ugh, this is horrible.
Like we need new toothpaste, dad.
Like, I'm not gonna havethe cinnamon anymore.
So I don't think I'm as picky.
I also like to get like almondhammer 'cause I feel like something
about the baking soda like makesme think it's gonna be whatever.
I'm like,
come up later.
Oh, really?
We'll see.
(16:09):
But there was a brand of toothpastethat I loved, and now I'm completely
blanking since we're recording, of course.
But I found out somehow thatit wasn't a DA approved.
So then I like remember lookingat the tube and being like, oh my
God, this is not a DA approved.
And I had been using it for years.
What brand was it?
Anyway, now I'm just sort of, I, I, like,I stick to the like purpley, um, crest.
(16:32):
It's like.
Why did I do that?
The purplely, I'm, I'm lookingat the tube, the purple.
I know what you're talking about.
The Purplely tube.
Vivid White or whatever.
Yes.
Vivid White.
I know, I know, I know it.
Do you remember that scene inHome Alone where he's like, is
this toothbrush approved by theAmerican Dental Association?
No, I don't remember.
Oh my
God, you don't remember that part.
(16:53):
She's, he, he goes to the counter andshe's like, I dunno, lemme find out.
And then she goes to the back.
And then the burglars come in andKevin runs away and she thinks
he's stealing the toothbrush.
She's like, follow that boy.
And then he's like, no.
Is this toothbrush approved bythe American Dental Association?
Well, I don't know.
Okay.
I haven't seen it in a long a Okay.
(17:15):
Um,
anyway, do we, so going on, whatI've said I give, gave a little
bit of extra information here.
Do we think that this is common?
I mean, there is a,what is it, 3.6 overall?
Yeah.
It's not a very high, see, that's another thing too.
All of these viral trends, like,I think because of my age, I'm
(17:35):
just a little more skeptical.
I feel like I don't consumea lot of media from TikTok.
Shame on me.
But like these virallythings for you, I'm just.
I don't know.
I, I value like, longstandingresearch rather than like popping off.
Same clearly.
Well, hello.
So, I don't know.
(17:56):
I feel like I appre, you know, it,it's intriguing to me because it's
making wild accusations that kindof like they back up like this is
the only anomaly that's changed.
But I can't say for certain.
Something about that feels.
Really genuine to me.
And the fact that 51 people haveliked it or have found it helpful,
(18:17):
it kind of makes me, I don't know.
I'm sure
that people did not buyafter reading this review.
I mean, I feel like Iwould've into impact, but, um,
but the question is, is it common?
I don't know.
I mean, I was scouring the one starsand there are a lot of people that
are just like, it doesn't work right.
I didn't see much about like toothdecay or like teeth breaking.
(18:42):
Right.
But that is a fear of like any of thesewhitening products is it's gonna like
strip enamel and it's bad for your teethand like you eat an apple the wrong way.
Maybe it falls out.
But like, is that, I don't know.
Also, like what is the likelihoodthat you could rub something on your
teeth realistically twice a day?
I don't know anyone that reallybrushes their teeth three times a day.
(19:05):
For a few weeks, andthen your tooth breaks.
Like, is that real?
I, I don't know.
I feel like teeth are stir.
I, I wanna know how old Alyssa is.
Does Alyssa have, you know, like pre geriatric teeth or is
Alyssa a 20-year-old on TikTok?
I mean, they, Alyssa
sounds young.
I mean, I don't know.
Like, I, I don't know anyone withmy who, what's your grandma's name?
(19:28):
Alyssa.
Alyssa.
Yeah, good point.
And they say they sawit on TikTok, so Yeah.
So, but I mean, brandies couldbe on TikTok, but I don't
know many Alyssa grandmas.
Um, were we humored?
I mean, I would personally say thatI was more entertained than humored.
I mean, entertainedand like I'm horrified.
Um, how do you feel?
(19:49):
Yeah, I feel like it's emotionallyevoking, but not like funny.
But I think that that isequal in this category.
Agree.
And then we've kind ofalready touched on the impact.
I'm not, I'm not adding to card afterreading Alyssa's review, which that's,
yeah, I don't know.
It
(20:09):
pretty impactful.
It gives me pause.
Definitely.
I'm, I'm curious to hearthe flip side for sure.
Yes.
Well, all right.
Should we crown?
I think we should, butwait before we crown.
It's game time.
(20:30):
All right, listeners, I've created acustom game just for you and you, Trey,
and it is called Bright For or Fight.
Is it a bright idea or is itgonna come to bite in the tush?
Like it bit Alyssa.
All right.
Are you ready to go?
(20:50):
I'm gonna present four trending teethwhitening habits, and you're gonna tell
me if it's bright, a good idea or bite.
And listeners, if you're home, just shout out your answers and
we're gonna see who comes out withthe brightest smile at the end.
(21:11):
Your first question, using purpletoothpaste to cancel out yellow tones
mm-hmm.
Will make teeth appear wider.
Is this bright or white?
I'm gonna say it's, it's bright.
(21:32):
I don't know how that would hurt you.
You're right, it is bright.
Because, you know, just like purpleshampoo, there's something in it that
pulls out that yellow and thereforemakes your teeth look whiter.
Very good.
Question number two, rubbing strawberrieson your teeth will naturally whiten them.
(21:58):
Um.
This is so weird.
I'm just gonna say bright.
Oh man.
It's okay.
So this is actually bite.
Do not do this.
If someone has told you to do this,it, it, the acid from the strawberries
(22:20):
will eventually damage your animal.
So don't be rubbing thosefruits on your teeth.
All right, third question.
Drinking coffee through a straw.
Helps reduce staining on teeth
(22:42):
bright.
That is correct.
It is bright because of course ifyou're drinking through a straw,
then you're having less contactwith your teeth and a Trey's showing
us that with his beautiful Tumblr.
Right?
Tumblr not bite.
Tumblr.
Question number four.
This is where we're going full circle.
(23:03):
Try brushing with baking sodaand coconut oil every day is a
great way to whiten your teeth.
Coconut oil, I forgot about this.
(23:23):
I'm, I think bright.
Oh, come on.
It's the every day.
Every day is what the trick is.
Yeah.
So yes and no.
I mean, I don't think that we shouldbe brushing our teeth with baking soda.
It's really abrasive.
It's gonna wear down theenamel in your teeth.
I don't recommend asthe a dentist daughter.
(23:45):
All right, Trey, here we go.
Here is your bonus question.
I think you're alreadywinning, or maybe you're 50 50.
Actually I think you're 50 50.
Yeah.
So this could put youover the edge either way.
All right, HAI, what percentageof Americans brush their
teeth at least twice a day?
Oh my God.
(24:05):
A 50%.
B 69%.
Or C 80%.
I feel like 50% is too even.
(24:27):
This is really, I want, isit 69 or to 80 Americans?
American, I'm, I, I don'tknow that I really think
this, but I'm gonna say C 80%.
Oh man.
It's B, isn't it?
I thought it was B.
It is B. According to a nationalsurvey by Delta Dental, nearly 69%
(24:52):
of Americans brush their teeth atleast twice a day as is recommended
by dental professionals, which meansthat like 31% of you listening to this
podcast are not brushing twice a day.
Get on it.
Okay.
Brush you could brush three times a day.
There's you, you, you gotta twotimes a day, guys, let's do this.
(25:17):
As Marty t once said in the film, grease, brush 'em, brush 'em, bra 'em.
That's right.
Good job, Trey.
I am sorry you didn't win, but um, thank
you so much.
You got
close.
What can I say?
I got pretty close.
You got close.
What an honor.
And listeners, did you beat?
Try?
Did you win?
Let us know.
Do you have the brighter smile?
(25:38):
See.
Or did you bite
or did you bite your tongue?
Review That.
Review.
Uh, all right.
All right.
Well, now that I'm a big loser,I really feel inspired to
crown Alyssa, are you ready?
Let's
do it.
I'm ready.
(25:58):
All right.
So Chelsey and I each have our ownset of zero to five crown cards.
And in an effort to be fair andnot influence one another, we will
simultaneously reveal our rating.
The Queens are Tabulating,
total school.
Okay.
I am holding up four crowns, Trey'sholding up four and a half crowns.
(26:21):
I'll go first.
This was a really good review.
Obviously I was super impacted.
I would not buy the productafter reading a list's review.
There's a lot of good here.
The only thing is, and maybe this isjust because I'm a Review Queen, I
just wanted a little bit more of thetimeline, a little bit more of the,
I mean, they did give us timeline, but a little bit more of like.
(26:43):
Did you feel anything at all?
Even if you had written like,I felt nothing, and then, oh my
God, my teeth, something aboutthat, like was missing for me.
And so that was why I went with fourinstead of a full Review Queen, I
took off a crown, but I still thoughtthis was a really solid review.
Very influential, and I bet notnecessarily this extreme, but I bet
(27:04):
people, uh, commonly have negative,uh, experiences with this product.
So that was why I wentwith four Crowns, four.
So why four and a half?
Well, 'cause I, I was working backwards'cause I was like, if it to be a
Review Queen, I always want some media.
I want a photo, I want like a video.
I want something.
(27:24):
But.
Especially when it comesto teeth whitening.
There's one thing I'm scouring forand it's before and after photos.
Yes, good point.
I actually, I
actually really wannasee that now I get that.
This is about like a tooth breaking.
Show me
the chip
baby.
Just take a picture like that.
A picture's worth a thousand words.
(27:45):
That's right.
You know, so, so, but.
Everything is very solid in this review.
I so agree that I felt like somemore of the timelines, some more of
the detail would've been important.
I do find it queenly that theyare trying to like multiple times
say like, I can't prove this, butit, it would stop me from trying.
I chose to not buy, and um, 51 otherpeople found it helpful and I imagine
(28:10):
that will continue as the review lives.
Four and a half, prettysolid, does what it needs to.
Um, but a little bit of criticism still.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay.
Totally fair.
Well,
well, now that we have covered yourone star review tray, we have something

Wait.
Hmm.
I wonder as well.
(29:54):
Well, please remember,
