The fastest way to upgrade a race weekend isn’t a workout—it’s a conversation. We kick off the 2025 Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend with a clear plan to turn nerves into connection, mapping exactly where to find us before each start, how to spark easy chats in the corrals, and why your first bus and first hello can change the whole vibe. If you’re arriving solo, you don’t have to stay that way; we’ll make the introductions and help you find your people.

We walk through the training checkpoints for marathon, Goofy, Dopey, and Disneyland half, then pivot to the decisions that protect your legs: expo routes, virtual queue timing, park-mile creep, and the smart way to balance merch hunts with rest. You’ll get race-day tips that actually help—carry a lightweight finish bag, rotate shoes across races, pack a hat and sunglasses, keep a poncho handy, and be ready to simplify costumes if the humidity climbs. We also flag the perks of the earliest buses: shorter character-photo lines, calmer corrals, and extra minutes to breathe before the fireworks.

Midway, we spotlight a new "Podcast We Listen To" with AJ and Erika from the One More Run podcast—former Disneyland cast members sharing beginner-friendly guidance on proof of time, corrals, fueling, and costumes with pro-level production and zero gatekeeping. Their mission mirrors ours: make runDisney feel welcoming, informative, and fun for new runners and veterans alike.

We wrap with a massive roll call, celebratory shout-outs, and details for meeting up beside the grandstands, plus a nod to the Give Kids The World Gingerbread Run under the lights. Lace up, say hi, and let the miles take care of themselves. If this episode helps, tap follow, share it with a friend heading to Wine & Dine, and leave a quick review—what’s the one tip you’ll use this weekend?

Alicia's not very tall.

SPEAKER_09 (02:06):
Listen, she's down there already.
She already went to DarksideMargaritas.
She's starting to rack up thethe bar tab for the for the the

SPEAKER_06 (04:38):
Thank you, Greg.
All right, let's take a look atthe training schedule.
Wine and dine.
You know what you got.
You got a 5K, a 10K and a half.
It's race weekend.
This is it.
This is the Victory Lab.
We're going to talk a little bitmore about it in just a moment.
But this is the one.

(04:58):
If this is your first time, especially if this is your first
time at Disney World for a race,it's just the best.
Looking forward to seeingeverybody.
It's so exciting.
So that's what's up.
We know we've got one marathonweekend.
Now we're in training weeknumber 17.
If you're running the marathon, you've got five miles on the

(05:22):
training schedule with a magicmile.
Now that magic mile is one ofthe five.
What I typically do is a veryslow first mile, then run the
magic mile, then three more toround it off.
If you're doing goofy or dopey, you've got four to six miles.

(05:42):
Marathon weekend, I'm sorry, half marathon weekend out in
Disneyland.
It's training week four.
Long run is five miles.
And big news, Princess HalfMarathon weekend training starts
on Tuesday.
You know, in a way, in a way, Ihate to see these coming because

(06:07):
the season's going away.
We haven't, we're we're doingour first race this week, and
then we're talking aboutPrincess.
And the next thing you know,we'll be talking about
springtime, and we go, oh golly, season's going away.
But but no, let's let's put thatbehind us for now.
Let's concentrate on this greatweek that is unfolding right

(06:30):
before you.
I hope, I hope maybe you're atthe expo or listening on your
way to the expo.
Maybe you're flying down.
You're going to be there laterthis afternoon.
You got your ears in.
Uh, it's gonna be fun.
One of the things we thought wewould talk about today, the gang
here, is something that we wishwe knew.

(06:54):
I wish we did during our firstrun or our fiftieth run or
whatever number.
What is uh something, and we cando several things you wish you
could relay to friends, especially to friends who
haven't done one before.

SPEAKER_09 (07:13):
Bob, if it's alright, I'm gonna start us out
here, and I'm actually not evengoing to talk about running.
I'm just gonna talk about theweekend in general itself.
And that is if you are there byyourself or you're with family

(07:35):
or with friends, but it's yourfirst weekend.
Do not be afraid to go out ofyour comfort zone and chat with
someone and make a friend.

SPEAKER_06 (07:51):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_09 (07:51):
I I look back, I mean, we we were just talking
about this the other week, Bob.
The fact that you know we arenow you and I and Alicia are
celebrating our our 10-yearanniversary of doing Run Disney,
and for us, it all started atWine and Dine.
And I remember that particularweekend, you know, Grant.

(08:14):
There, you know, for me, therewas no customized training.
Uh, clearly, there was no Riseand Run podcast.
Literally, all I had was ChrisSapienza's Run Disney and Beyond
Facebook group.

SPEAKER_06 (08:28):
And we had a we had Alicia's too.
She got started.

SPEAKER_09 (08:31):
Yeah.
Yes.
And literally the only peoplethat I interacted with that
entire weekend is I chatted withyou for about 15 minutes before
we went off to our separatecorrals and I chatted with my
wife, and that was it.

SPEAKER_03 (08:49):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_09 (08:50):
And I look back on what my my Run Disney race
weekends are now and howexponentially different they
are.
And while I have zero shame inhow my journey has gone, knowing
what I know now, I wish I wouldhave randomly chatted with you

(09:11):
know someone you know in in thecorral or you know, waiting in
line to get my bib at the expo.
It's funny.
Even though I'm on this podcast,I classify myself as an
introvert.
Now my wife will tell me thatshe thinks I'm full of crap when
I say that, but it's it's asituation where if you can get

(09:31):
yourself out of that shell andthen be able to chat with
someone, I think it can fosterreally wonderful relationships.
It will give you the ability tomaybe gain even more information
about running itself or runningat Disney or learning a trick
about costuming or somethinglike that.

(09:52):
So, in terms of the 2025 Wineand Dine weekend, come to our
meetup on Saturday afternoon.
I guarantee you there are gonnabe a slew of folks there who are
going to be there with open armsand are going to welcome you
into this community.
And who knows, by the timeMarathon weekend rolls around,

(10:13):
you might be having dinnerreservations with these people.
Yeah, and they can absolutelychange your life.
So, again, if you are timid inthat respect, please do not feel
that, you know, feel free to getoutside of your comfort zone and
and just it it's just gonna makeyour weekend even more magical
than it already is.

SPEAKER_06 (10:32):
All right, I'm a little upset with you because
that's uh pretty much where Iwas going.
Oh but while while you weretalking, I just realized
something.
The date this episode will airis October 23rd.

(10:53):
You know what that means?
That's a big day.
The 23rd?

SPEAKER_09 (10:57):
Yeah, it's isn't that our our five-year
anniversary of Rise and Run?

SPEAKER_06 (11:00):
22nd.
22nd is oh 22nd.

SPEAKER_09 (11:03):
22nd.
Happy birthday, guys!

SPEAKER_06 (11:07):
Yeah, it's uh I think it's four years though,
Greg.
I think it was 2021.
Oh, you're right, you're right.
I I I can't count.
Well, I'll tell you what, Greg, the reason I figured that out
was we're on episode 211,roughly 50 episodes a year.
That's four years.
But uh yeah, yesterday was ourfourth anniversary.

(11:29):
And it's also it's also what,John?
My birthday.
Happy birthday.

SPEAKER_10 (11:37):
Expo day is birthday day.

SPEAKER_06 (11:39):
Is it?

SPEAKER_05 (11:40):
Oh yes.

SPEAKER_06 (11:41):
Uh 22nd, the uh podcast anniversary date is uh
our wedding anniversary date.

SPEAKER_05 (11:49):
So much to celebrate.

SPEAKER_06 (11:51):
Becky and I'll be there on our wedding
anniversary.
I'm gonna stretch what you saidjust a little bit though, Greg.

SPEAKER_08 (11:57):
Go for it.

SPEAKER_06 (11:57):
Uh same, same exact idea.
But friends, I see a couplepeople in our rise and run
family on Facebook saying, I'mmaking this trip solo.
Okay, cool.
You can come to Disney Worldalone, but uh you if you don't

(12:21):
have to stay alone, right?
You do not have to, unless youwant to.
Before every race, as wementioned on last week's
episode, before every race, thegang who is running that race,
we get together, and we are tothe left of the bleachers,
facing the stage in the areawhere you start.

(12:41):
If you've never been before, you'll figure it out pretty
quickly.
Come by.
I'll be there, John will bethere, Alicia will be there.
You know us.
You may never have met us, butyou know us.
So come say hi.
We will be happy, we will bedelighted to introduce you to

(13:02):
the rest of the rise and runfamily that's there.
And there are usually quite afew people, but not only that
though, you will I can'tguarantee it, but I can be
pretty sure you'll find somebodyto run with if that's what you
want.
First first race I did downthere was uh this one.

(13:23):
One and nine and a half marathon2016.
I trained by myself, I ran bymyself.
That's what I had planned to doall along.
But you don't have to.
You don't have to if you don'twant to.
John will run with you.
I'll definitely run with you.
Alicia'll run away from you.
I only said that becauseAlicia's not here and can't

(13:43):
defend herself.
But but yeah.
Uh and it doesn't have to be oneof us.
The neat thing, I remember ameetup that we had last year
sometime.
A young lady, I don't know whoit was, came, introduced herself
to me, and I said, Well, here'ssome of the Rise and Run family.

(14:04):
Introduce yourself, or I think Imay have introduced her.
And then I kind of kept an eyeon her because I wanted to make
sure she was fitting in andfeeling comfortable.
No problem.
No problem.
She was with people the rest ofthe day, and that's just the way
it is, guys.
So you can come alone, but youdon't have to stay alone.

SPEAKER_09 (14:26):
Have the three of you ever watched How I Met Your
Mother?
The TV, yeah, sure.
Okay, so I promise I'm goingsomewhere with this.
Okay.
Is like Barney Stinson, thecharacter, the character that
Neil Patrick Harris played.
And you know, when when whenBarney and Ted were always out
on the prowl looking for women, what was the famous line that

(14:49):
that Neil Patrick Harris wouldalways say?
Suit up.
Well, suit up, yes.
But have you met Ted?
Okay.
And to me, we are like that inRise and Run.
You just like you were saying inthat story, Bob.
I feel like our version ofhaving uh Having Met Ted is have
you met this person?
Have you met this that person?
There are so many people withinour community and just the Run

(15:11):
Disney community in general, that you can find you can find
that new friend really, reallyeasily.
And and it I I think ninechances out of ten, it's really
gonna work for you.

SPEAKER_06 (15:22):
You know, we've got a um podcast we listened to
segment coming up.
I listened to the podcast welistened to this morning.
I was out on a walk.
They're talking about exactlythe same thing.
And they were suggesting I'mgonna steal it.
I'm gonna steal this from AJ andErica, who you'll meet in just a
few moments.

(15:43):
If if you don't want to meet upwith us, you you got a leg up
already.
You've got your rise and runfamily.
But if you want to do as Gregwas talking, just somebody in
the corral, hey, that's a nicecostume.
That'll get a conversationstarted.
How did how did you make that?
Hey, is this your first Disneyrun?

(16:04):
And whether the answer is yes orno, you're gonna start a
conversation.
So I've I've stolen those fromAJ.
Thank you, AJ.
And uh you'll you again, you'llmeet those folks in just a
moment.
All right, so Greg and I havekind of dominated here.

SPEAKER_05 (16:19):
Jack, John You guys already said what I was gonna
say.
Like, my story is like veryextremely similar to Greg's.
Like, let's be honest.
Like, if it wasn't for thepodcast, I'm very much an
introvert.
I didn't really talk to anybodyuh besides um if I'm run if I'm
running with a friend.
You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_06 (16:40):
Yeah, you don't even talk to me.
I know that.

SPEAKER_05 (16:42):
What's Bob?
We all talk so much through ourgroup chat.
But yeah, I think I'll justreiterate kind of really quick,
but seriously, getting puttingyour putting myself out there
and and being able to talk toeverybody has been such a game

(17:02):
changer and has made theweekends so much so enjoyable.
I mean, for a weekend that couldbe feel very stressful, you're
around a lot of people that willmake that stress melt away.

SPEAKER_06 (17:16):
Yeah.
So come see us.
Come say hi, come see us, comein.
And look, we're not, I mean, does everybody love us?
No.
But but if you come over and yousay hi and you go, geez, I don't
want to talk to that guyanymore, what have you lost?
Okay.

SPEAKER_10 (17:35):
You're so psyched to get there.
Get you at your first raceweekend.
If it's just your first raceweekend, and you're so psyched
you want to get to that startline and you want to blow
through everything.
I you know what, these aren'tthe races to go for time.

SPEAKER_06 (17:49):
That's true.

SPEAKER_10 (17:50):
Yeah.
These are the races you justwant to like take it all in
because the the the theming, thethe characters, the other people
on the course, all that otherstuff.
It's just an enjoyment to seeall that stuff on the course so
that you get that in your mmemory so that you know, oh
yeah, I ran the uh halfmarathon.

(18:11):
What was the course like?
I don't know, I just ran astraight line.
No, you know, no, no, yeah.
Like you're gonna see some greatstuff going through all the
different parks.
Well, not the just two parks, this course, and just what do
you call have those greatmemories that you'll always
think back at.

SPEAKER_05 (18:30):
Yeah.
Also, I will put this out there.
Um, one thing I've learned, ifwe're gonna just say new things
um that we've learned along theway, because I've made lots of
mistakes.
Like, obviously, I had fun, butI've learned mistakes as in
knowing what I should eat andknowing what I shouldn't eat

(18:51):
before the big race.

SPEAKER_06 (18:53):
Hopefully you've worked that out in your training
by now.

SPEAKER_05 (18:56):
Oh gosh, yeah.
But yeah, like if you're new andyou're just excited, you're
like, I'm at Disney, I want togo eat at this place, this
place, and this place becauseobviously you're on vacation.
Yeah, I get that.
But right at least be the nightbefore the your big, big race.
If you're doing like, I don'tknow, like a half marathon or
marathon, just be careful.
Yeah, be careful.

SPEAKER_09 (19:16):
Jack, I'm gonna piggyback off of what you're
saying, but not necessarily interms of nutrition, but just the
physical nature of these raceweekends, and that is if you
have never done a Run Disneyrace before, or you know, maybe
you're this is an instance wherenot only it's your first run,
but it's your first trip to WaltDisney World.
Sometimes you can underestimatethe amount of time that you are

(19:40):
going to spend on your feet interms of sure.
Okay, I have to go and and pickup you know all the stuff at at
the expo.
Okay.
It's it's a little bit of a walkfrom the bus area to all the
different buildings that houseall the various stuff for the
expos.
You're gonna be visiting it asif you're buying merch and

(20:02):
you're buying Brooks shoes, you're gonna be visiting three
different locations within theESBN Wild World of Sports
Complex.
You're gonna be on your feetstanding around waiting for a
bus, whether that's to go backto your resort from the expo, or
if you're going to the themeparks themselves.
Just the the park time alone, interms of you know, walking from

(20:27):
your resort room to the buses, and then the buses to the parks,
and then the parks themselves, and standing in line for
attractions and photos, that isgoing to take a little bit of a
physical toll on your body.
So you just want to be mindfulof that and just remind
yourself, you know, just not topush yourself too far, because

(20:47):
as long as you do that, I thinkgoing now to what John was
saying, I think that's gonnaallow you the ability then to
enjoy those wonderfulentertainment elements and the
actual race itself a lot more ifyou're not on super, super tired
feet.

SPEAKER_10 (21:01):
Yeah, like like for example, the walk from the bus
stop in Epcot to this thereunion area is almost close to
a mile.

SPEAKER_06 (21:10):
It's yeah, it yeah, it's not quite, but anyway, it's
it's if you're not used to it,you'd be surprised.
You're gonna be walking a littlebit.
But you'll have people tofollow.
You won't get lost.
All right, I've got somepractical things.
Sit down, or it's too late.
Before you listen to thispodcast, sit down and make a

(21:32):
list of the things you need totake with you.
Uh, it's too late for that.
But uh that's a good one.
Bring a bag.
Bring a bag with you.
Go to Target or Walmart orwherever you are, and just take
one of those t-shirt bags andstuff it into your pocket
because at the end of the race, you've got a banana and you're

(21:54):
gonna get a box with snacks init.
You're gonna get a bottle ofwater, you're gonna get a bottle
of Power Aid.
You don't have to get any or allof this stuff.
You're gonna get a metal, that'syou gotta get.
Uh you're gonna get when youfinish, it's probably going to
be warm.
They're gonna hand you a towelthat's gonna have soaked in cool

(22:15):
water.
I doubt they'll be handing outmylar blankets.
I don't think it's going to bethat warm.
But you're gonna have all thatstuff.
It's kind of tough to juggle.
So put a bag in your pocket orsomewhere you can get to it
after the race.

SPEAKER_05 (22:29):
So um I'm gonna put a little plug in there.
Um, I forgot.
We have a um a video on YouTubethat's like the 16 tips and
tricks for race weekend.
And it's a lot of it's directedtowards um this weekend
specifically, the Wine and Dineweekend.

(22:50):
So if I um if you guys want togo ahead and check that out.
Um, and uh yeah, hopefully itgets you some helpful tips and
tricks.

SPEAKER_06 (23:00):
All right, here's one you've heard before, but I
don't mind saying it againbecause you're there now.
Have fun at the expo.
The expos you've there's thingsyou have to do.
You have to get your bib, youpick up your shirts.
That's what you've got to do.
Those are in two differentlocations, but the things you

(23:20):
get to do are meet people.
There's lots of people there.
I'm gonna be hanging out therefor a while.
I don't know when I'll getthere.
I don't I usually do not getthere first thing in the
morning.
John, you used to.
You're gonna be there firstthing in the morning on
Thursday.

SPEAKER_10 (23:35):
I'm I'm going for my my virtual queue.
I will hopefully be, as thispodcast is airing, getting my
virtual cue and getting an earlyqueue time because I like to get
there early, get stuff done, andthen possibly hit a park or
something afterwards.

SPEAKER_09 (23:54):
Well, as history has always shown, John usually goes.

SPEAKER_06 (23:58):
So yeah, you will be there in the morning.
And I think Alicia usually goesearly too, I think.

SPEAKER_09 (24:03):
I yeah, I think so.

SPEAKER_06 (24:05):
And I usually don't worry about it.
I usually get over there closerto lunchtime.
Uh because I'm not thatconcerned with the virtual
queue.

SPEAKER_10 (24:14):
Going by springtime, if you really I I thought the
sneakers were gonna sell outreal quick.
That's why I was really hopingfor an early time and an early
virtual queue.
But uh there was people stillbuying sneakers and fill fully
in stock on Saturday afternoon.

SPEAKER_06 (24:32):
Yeah, they were they were buying them off the Brooks
website on Monday, Monday orTuesday.
While you're at the expo, hey,if you're there right now, find
the Jeff Galloway booth.
I've I've mentioned this before.
Do yourself a favor.
Go say hello to Mr.
Galloway, go say hello to Mr.
Twiggs.
Jeff and Chris.

(24:53):
You will not find nicer people.
You heard Chris two weeks ago.
If you've been listening at all, you've heard Jeff on the
podcast.
If you've been running Disneyall Disney at all, you know who
Jeff is.
Do yourself a favor and say hito both of those fine men.
What are your thoughts on takingthe first bus from the resort to

(25:18):
the race?

SPEAKER_10 (25:20):
I like that idea.
Because the some resorts share abus and some of them don't, so
you you're the earlier you are,the most likely you're gonna get
on one of those first buses.
And I know it's been a lotbetter in the last few years.
And if they get lost, there's alot more time for them to find

(25:42):
their way back home.

SPEAKER_06 (25:43):
You know, we we talk about that every race, and we
talk about oh, the buses getlost, the buses get lost.
I think I've been to, I haven'tlooked it up, 65 or 68 races.
I've never gotten lost.
Not one time.

SPEAKER_05 (25:58):
Oh, you're lucky.

SPEAKER_06 (25:59):
Yeah.
Nevertheless, I I have not.
So I think that's a littleexaggerated.
The other advantages of being onthe first bus are when you get
there, there will be four sitesset up for character photos, two
on either side of the stage.

(26:19):
If you get there early enough, you may be able to get more than
one photo.
If you take a later bus and youdon't get there till let's say
4:15, 4:30, you'd be lucky toget one photo because the lines
just get that long.
Uh then the other advantage oftaking an early bus, come find

(26:42):
us.
You have we have more time tochat.
And I like that.
I like having more time to chatwith my friends.

SPEAKER_05 (26:48):
Well, I'll also put this out there.
I mean, if you're someone whowants to get on in like the
front of their corral, right?

SPEAKER_06 (26:55):
Good, Jack.

SPEAKER_05 (26:56):
You you really want to make sure that you're
probably on that first bus andthen going after like checking
and stuff, go straight to umwhere they will let you into the
corrals.
They may not let you in rightaway, but at least you know
you're one of the first ones inthere.
So there is no way that anybodycan um get ahead of you in that

(27:17):
respect.
You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_06 (27:19):
They probably won't let you.
If you're if you're on the firstbus, that gate probably won't be
open yet.
But you are correct, Jack.
You're in line then.
If that's something that you youare concerned with and you want
to get to the front of yourcorral, then yeah, being on an
early bus helps you out.
Be prepared for differentweather.

(27:41):
Now, this is Florida in theearly fall, late summer.
It's still warm here in Florida, but it could rain.
So be prepared for that.
You don't have to bring a ponchowith you, but at least have one
available in your pack so thatyou can grab it if you need to.

SPEAKER_10 (28:06):
Another another thing, Bob, too, going with that
with the weather, is I know someof us are gonna be running in
costumes.
You might have this reallyelaborate costume that you know,
if we get one of those hotweather days where it might be
90 degrees, you might want toreadjust your costumes.

SPEAKER_06 (28:26):
Yeah, you might.
It's if hey friends, it is notgoing to be 90 degrees at race
time.
It's not.
It might, it could hit 90degrees at three in the
afternoon, but it's not gonna be90 degrees at race time.
Uh it could hit 80.
That could happen.
But I don't want to scareanybody, John.

SPEAKER_10 (28:48):
It could be very warm or very cold.

SPEAKER_06 (28:51):
Very humid.
It's not gonna, it's not gonnabe very cold either.
Not we're well, we're 10 daysout.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, we're we're close.
What do you mean 10 days out?
It's today.
Oh, yeah.
Stick your head out the door andgo.
Speak your head in the game.
Um if you if you got a pair ofsunglasses, bring your
sunglasses.
You won't need them for the 5k.
You probably won't need them forthe 10k, but there's a good

(29:13):
chance you'll need them for thehalf.
Depends on how the course goes.
The sun's coming up at somepoint on that course, and if
you're heading east, whichsometimes we do, uh, the sun is
tough.
I wear a hat.
A hat helps me in case it rains.
A visor would do the same thing.
Also help you a little bit withthe sun.

(29:34):
Hopefully, you have more thanone pair of shoes if you're
running more than one race.
That's helpful.
It's it's helpful to change thembetween races.
And then if by chance one ofyour pairs gets wet, you've got
a dry pair back in the room.
Okay, friends.
So there we are.
It's race time.

(29:56):
It is exciting.
I know you're I hope you'reexcited.
I know we are.
And I wasn't kidding.
I've done sometime this seasonI'll get my one hundredth medal.
Now, that's not a hundred races,you know.
Uh Dopey's a good example.
I've done that five times, sothat's thirty medals, but only

(30:16):
twenty races.
But having said that, being anold fart, I'm excited.
I'm excited and I'm lookingforward to seeing.
But I hope that helps you out alittle bit.

SPEAKER_07 (30:31):
Caution runners, change of topic ahead.

SPEAKER_09 (30:36):
So time for a segment that uh that we haven't
done in a while, and that ispodcast we listen to.
And you know, I I know there'sprobably people out there are
thinking, oh man, another RunDisney podcast.
They they they probably all hateeach other, and you know,
they're they're in competitionwith one another.
And here at Rise and Run, we sayabsolutely not.

(30:58):
Uh a rising tide lifts offboats, and we love to see more
players in the game.
And a new one came across, atleast my radar, a couple of a
couple of months ago, uh, whenwe got tagged in an Instagram
reel, and our our next guestswere talking about their top
five running podcasts, andneedless to say, they waxed

(31:21):
poetic about us for a really, really long time.
So, guys, you need to let usknow where to send the check.
Uh we really appreciate that.

SPEAKER_11 (31:29):
Absolutely.
You can make that out to cash.

SPEAKER_06 (31:32):
Cash, okay, cash, perfect.
Venmo.
Yeah, whatever it takes.

SPEAKER_09 (31:36):
I watched it, I was floored by what they had to say,
and then I re-watched it again, thinking that there's no way
someone can be this nice aboutus.
And lo and behold, they were.
And since then, startedlistening, and I just love every
single second of it.
We would love to welcome AJ andErica from the One More Run

(31:58):
podcast.
Gang, welcome.

SPEAKER_01 (32:00):
Hey, thanks so much for having us.

SPEAKER_11 (32:02):
Yeah, we are so thrilled to be on the Ryzen Run
podcast, by the way.
Like this is this is cloud ninefor us at the moment.
We we can just retire afterthis.
This is it.
This is we've reached we'vereached our yeah, we made it.
You guys are awesome.

SPEAKER_06 (32:16):
I gotta tell you that I was I was a little
reluctant because I thought, oh,this is just gonna look like
we're sucking up, you know, because you were nice.
All right, you you're nice tous, you can come on the podcast.
But I gotta tell you, 100%candor.
I really like what you guys do.
I really do.
I enjoy the podcast.
I've listened to a couple ofthem, and it's outstanding,

(32:38):
excellent stuff.
I think our friends are gonnalike it also.

SPEAKER_11 (32:41):
Well, we definitely don't um like our intention uh
with starting this podcast wasto kind of share some tips and
tricks for for new runners.
It breaks our heart when we seesomeone at a race and they're
having a bad experience becauseof stuff they didn't know, or
maybe their expectation was off,you know.
Uh, and so we really just wantto share some of the things
we've learned over the few yearswe've been doing this.

(33:01):
And so you guys are likecommunity family, like it is an
unbelievable thing what you guyshave built.
And we are just thrilled to be apart of that.
We're just kind of like overhere in the corner, just sharing
some tips and tricks that welearned.
And that that's really whatwe're trying to do.

SPEAKER_08 (33:16):
Bob, do you have your checkbook out again?
Because they did it again.
So I think we're gonna have tosend another cash uh check to
them.

SPEAKER_06 (33:22):
That's nice.
But I think I think what they'redoing, uh honestly, I think is
really good.
Now, one of the things that'sreally I really enjoy about your
podcast is this this nice banterthat you have between the two of
us.
Do you guys know each otherpersonally?

SPEAKER_11 (33:36):
Uh yeah.
We um we what's the word, Erica?
Oh yeah, we're married.

SPEAKER_01 (33:41):
We're married.
Yeah, that's that's it.

SPEAKER_11 (33:42):
Yep.
How long have we been married,Erica?

SPEAKER_01 (33:44):
Twenty-three.

SPEAKER_11 (33:46):
Is that right?

SPEAKER_01 (33:46):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_11 (33:47):
Yeah.
Yeah.
So we can give each other, wecan give each other a hard time
because we've we've known eachother a while.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_06 (33:52):
I'm gonna get suck up points now.
You don't look old enough, butthat's okay.
That's a good thing.

SPEAKER_11 (33:56):
It's a filter.
Filter on the on the zoom thing.
All right.

SPEAKER_09 (34:01):
So take us back to the origins of of one more run.
Obviously, you know, you alreadytold us about how you wanted to
be able to provide those tipsand tricks to you know new Run
Disney runners.
But what other motivations didyou have uh to get this started,
Erica?

SPEAKER_01 (34:15):
Well, we started running, I did my first Princess
Half in 2016.
And when I did that first race,I knew nothing about Run Disney.
I think I missed probably mostof the weekend.
Um, and then AJ and I startedrunning in 2020, 2019.
And um we since have sort ofdragged several of our friends
along with us.
Um, they they want to do RunDisney with us, and so we just

(34:37):
thought, like, what's a fun waythat we could share some of the
knowledge that we've learned,um, whether it be Run Disney or
just running, you know, ingeneral.

SPEAKER_11 (34:46):
Um I think there's two two two thoughts is that we
are sharing the same informationall the time to all of our all
of our friends and new newfolks, which I'm sure you guys
are used to.
And we have no problem doingthat, you know, because we could
talk running and and run Disneyall day long.
Yes.
But we found we just kept sayingthe same thing over and over and
over again.
So we, whether anybody listenedto it or not, we thought, let's

(35:06):
at least document it.
Right.
And then and then we have like alibrary of, oh yeah, look,
here's how you deal with thevirtual queue.
And we could send it to it tosomebody, you know.
So that was part of it.
And then um the the other thingis we just literally love Run
Disney and love talking it andwe love, you know, we we love
doing this together, right?
And so yeah, that's kind of thethe origins of the podcast.

(35:28):
I brought Erica like a uh aPowerPoint outline, you know
what I mean, with all theepisodes that I intended for us
to do.
So what I pro I proposed, thiswas back in July.
Um, I proposed, uh, hey Erica,we got 29 weeks until marathon,
which is our first race of thisseason.
Why don't we do these 29 topicsleading up to marathon weekend?

(35:49):
And it was all the basics, right?
So running in costume or how tofuel or whatever the, you know,
whatever the topics are.
And she, I I really expectedsome pushback, like, AJ, I don't
think we're qualified to dothis.
Are you sure?
And she looked at me, she says, sounds great.
When do we start?

SPEAKER_06 (36:06):
Nice, nice, that's outstanding.
So you started, well, you'rewhat 14 episodes in?
Is that right?

SPEAKER_11 (36:13):
Yeah, we just recorded 15 yesterday, and it's
a good one.
By the way, you got anothershout-out.
I'm so sorry.
You got another shout out inthis episode.
That's the third check you cansend.
Go ahead.
Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_06 (36:26):
Well, it's it's uh it's touching.
I'm honored.
We're honored.
That's great.
Now you publish weekly.
We do, yeah.
Yeah.
What date, what day do you drop?

SPEAKER_11 (36:35):
Uh we drop it first thing Wednesday morning.
Uh, if you're going for youryour run, you know, Thursday,
Friday, whatever.
We want it to be there and readyfor you.
So drop it every Wednesday, andthen we do little social media
clips kind of to hold us overduring the week.
And so, you know, we're soexcited about the episode.
And, you know, you know, I don'twant to wait till next

(36:56):
Wednesday.
So we got these little socialmedia clips.
We drop four or five throughoutthe week to kind of you know
tease out either what hashappened or is coming up next.

SPEAKER_06 (37:03):
So oh, I think those are great.
Those are and our friends canfind those on YouTube, right?

SPEAKER_11 (37:09):
Um, they're on YouTube.
That's right.
We do everything is AJ andErica, right?
And Erica sponsor name with a K.
So um we're Instagram or um orYouTube.
We put all those little socialmedia clips.
Uh the you know, the bestperforming ones, uh sadly, are
the bloopers.
We we put the bloopers online, and people seem to think that
you know, laughing at us isfunny.
So we're we're okay with that.

SPEAKER_06 (37:29):
I tried that, I did try to do that, and yeah, we
were, yeah, it didn't didn'twork for us, but that's okay.

SPEAKER_11 (37:36):
It's because you guys are just too good.

SPEAKER_09 (37:40):
Well, AJ, you know, talking about the you know these
video clips.
I mean, again, that's how Istumbled upon you, and and I
gotta say the production valueof those are amazing.
Being being a video nerd myself,I think it it works very well
that the two of you are not onlyco-hosts, but also married.
So you know, you're able to getthis awesome setup, you know, in

(38:02):
terms of your house and you gota really nice camera.
And I just I'm jealous becauselike you know, with us being
spread out all over the country, you know, to do something like
that it would would be really, really difficult.
But I I just wanted to to giveuh the two of you your flowers
on that, you know, that they'rereally engaging and they're
very, very well done.

SPEAKER_11 (38:18):
Oh well, I appreciate you saying that.
Can I just be honest and tellyou that I cheat a little bit in
that regard?
Is that um I am I like video iswhat I do for a living.
So look at that.
I am not surprised, really.

SPEAKER_06 (38:30):
It shows it shows in the quality of the production.

SPEAKER_11 (38:33):
Here, here's the uh if you want to know, I'll just
tell you now the biggest mistakewe made when we started the
podcast was doing starting itwith video because video is so
much harder and time consuming, and you have to like actually do
your hair, you know, and allthat.
If you could have just done anaudio podcast, yeah, that's
true.
That's true.
If you'd if we'd have just doneaudio, we could probably just
come down on our PJs, you knowwhat I mean, and and record.

(38:54):
So uh I do a little bit regretmaking it a video podcast, but
it allows us to, you know, kindof oh yeah, share those things
on YouTube and things.

SPEAKER_06 (39:02):
Yeah, well, I think it's a great medium, and I think
you're going to find morelisteners or more viewers or a
larger audience that way, too.

SPEAKER_11 (39:10):
Hopefully, and and and the hopeful there is not
like we're not trying to beinfluencers or something like
that.
We got the famous.
We're not we're we'reintroverts, you know, by nature.
What we really want to do is behelpful, right?
So when someone doesn'tunderstand how corral placement
works and they've got all thesequestions about proof of time
and they don't even know any ofthe things, if they Google it or
they are listening, you know, regular listeners or whatever,

(39:32):
they can hopefully find a clear, like normal person answer, not
like some complicated thing, youknow, and that that's what we're
really trying to do.

SPEAKER_06 (39:41):
And I think that is lovely for our listeners because
we're at this five years now,and sometimes I think we gloss
over or forget that stuff.
And I think it's nice there'sanother resource there for that.
That's great.
Your name of the podcast againis one more run, right?

SPEAKER_01 (39:58):
Yes.

SPEAKER_10 (39:58):
How did we come out with that name?

SPEAKER_01 (40:00):
Yeah, so that that comes from me.
So um I'm like a big JeffGalloway, you know, run, walk,
run type of person.
AJ runs a lot faster than I do.
Um, you know, he says crazythings like, I needed to run six
miles today, but it felt sogood, I just did like four more.
Like I've never said that in myentire life.

SPEAKER_06 (40:19):
Well, I I love the story about running to the
rental car.

SPEAKER_01 (40:23):
Yeah.
Oh, yeah, he does that all thetime.
Yeah, yeah.
Um six miles from home.

SPEAKER_11 (40:29):
Really six miles, yeah.

SPEAKER_01 (40:31):
Six miles.
And he does it on the regular.
So anyway, yeah.
So one time AJ was out runningwith me and I made some comment
like, I just have one more run, like one more running segment
before I can walk.
And and he, of course, is like, one more run, like, yes, I can
do another one.
And so it means different thingsfor us, but but it's it's it
means something to both of us umwhen it comes to our running.

(40:52):
So it just was a natural fit.

SPEAKER_09 (40:54):
So the one thing I I did want to chat with the two of
you about outside of the actual, you know, inner workings of the
podcast itself is I forget whichepisode it was, but you know,
the two of you made mention thatyou both used to work at
Disneyland.
What roles did you uh have ascast members?

SPEAKER_01 (41:10):
So I worked on Small World at Disneyland.

SPEAKER_11 (41:14):
Um, yeah, this was during college.
These are our college days,right?
So a few years during duringcollege.
It was not DCP, this is out ofDisneyland.
So Erica worked on Small World.
Do you guys, and I don't knowbecause you I think you guys are
all East Coasters.
Do you know what Innovations wasat uh at Disneyland?
So I worked in there.
It used to be the old carouselof progress.
And so uh I had a spiel, I gotto, you know, I had a microphone

(41:34):
and everything.
Wow.
So we did we did we did thatduring during college.
Yeah.
You know, the real reason weworked at Disney was so that we
could get access to the parksand all that as college
students.
Yeah, we didn't actually do it,you know, because you know, for
because I love small world.

SPEAKER_01 (41:47):
Yeah, because you yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_11 (41:48):
The song lives in our head forever, which is
actually why we're going, Bob,which is why we're going to do
the Disneyland half this year.
Right.
One, because it's the last one,but then the other, I looked at
Erica and said, Oh, you have todo it.
Right, because it's small worldthing.
Yeah, you have to do it.
It's a small world theme.
Like you, Erica, there's nooption.
You have to do it.
So I th I talked her into it.

SPEAKER_09 (42:06):
Yeah, I understand.
All right.
So you're 15 weeks into thisventure in terms of at least
season one, which I guess you'redubbing as you know, those 29
weeks leading up to marathonweekend.
But once you get past all ofyour races, uh, you know, for
this upcoming race season, whatdoes the future hold for one
more run?

SPEAKER_11 (42:25):
Uh, Greg, if you have any ideas, we'll take it.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_09 (42:29):
You might have to return some of those checks then
to us.

SPEAKER_11 (42:32):
Yeah, but the royalties going right back to
Rise and Run.
You know, to be quite honestwith you, we had a plan, you
know, we had a plan for those 29weeks, and and we're still
really solid on that.
But you know what we did notexpect, and this totally
surprised me was how um deeplypeople have engaged with us, and
I'm sure you experienced thistoo, but how deeply they care

(42:52):
about who we are and and ourjourney, and they really like
the information, but they reallyjust have engaged with us in a
way that I did not expect.
And it's not on social media, like it's offline, it's through
email and all of that.
And I'm like, Erica, I we can'tquit now, we can't let them
down.

SPEAKER_01 (43:08):
And it's so much fun.
Like, I just love doing ittogether.
So we need to put it out.

SPEAKER_06 (43:15):
No, it shows.
I mean, yeah, you can't.
Uh uh I you talk about JeffGalloway.
Jeff, it's not an exaggerationto say that one of my great
honors of being through all thisis Jeff Galloway is a friend of
mine now.
And uh a conversation I had withhim one time and a quote that I
have never forgotten.
And we talked about this kind ofstuff, and he just looks me in

(43:36):
the eye and says, Bob, you can'tfake that.
And you guys don't fake it, andit it shows, it comes through in
what you do.

SPEAKER_11 (43:43):
Awesome.
Thank you for that for thatfeedback.
So, Greg, I don't know what uhJanuary holds.
We really want to make sure thatthe new runner, the new person
to run Disney who doesn't knowthe inside language, uh, you
know, that they feel welcome.
And that's the feedback we keepgetting is that they, you know,
they they feel uh and and samewith you guys, but they feel
welcome and they feel like theycan, you know, uh learn

(44:04):
something without feeling likean outsider, right?
And we really want to keep thatvibe.
I don't know how you do that, you know, multiple seasons down
the road where, you know, wehave already said this like 10
times, you know.
So we really are on a journey toto figure out what's after this
race season, but I think we'recommitted to doing it, right?
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Okay.

SPEAKER_06 (44:22):
Well, good.
I'm glad you are, but it reallyis worthwhile and I hope it
continues for a long time.

SPEAKER_10 (44:28):
Okay, again, the uh podcast is one more run.
So how would our listeners uhfind you guys on your socials,
uh pod podcast players orFacebook?

SPEAKER_11 (44:38):
Yep, the easiest way I think is to hit the website.
It's ajandarica.com.
Erica spells her name with a K.
So it's A J A N D E R I K A onall the things.
The website's easiest because itlinks to everything, right?
Apple Podcasts, Spotify,Instagram, YouTube, Facebook.
It's all AJ and Erica.
And if you search one more run,it comes up on those on the

(44:58):
Spotify and all that stuff.
So um, yeah, that's how to findit.
Yep.

SPEAKER_06 (45:02):
It's worth finding, friends.
Look for it.
One more run, you're gonna likeit.
Erica AJ, thanks for spendingtime with us.
We look forward to seeing youdown.

SPEAKER_01 (45:12):
Oh my gosh, thank you so much for having us.
It really is like was thehighlight of our month, yeah.
It's just like, did you see thewho texted us?
And I was like, oh my gosh,we're thrilled to be here.

SPEAKER_06 (45:25):
Thanks so much, guys.

SPEAKER_04 (45:26):
Yes, thank you.

SPEAKER_07 (45:28):
Caution runners, the topic is about to change right
now.

SPEAKER_06 (45:33):
Look, I know I said this during our interview.
At least I think I did.
This is a good podcast, and theythey do that they're fun to
listen to.
I know everything they'retalking about.
I listen anyway.
I I listen anyway, and I havefun listening to them.

(45:54):
And I honest to goodness said itearlier.
I was listening to them thismorning, and I've already stolen
some stuff, so I'll do thatagain.
I'll do I'm sure I'll do thatagain.
AJ, keep keep pumping that goodstuff out, and Greg and I'll
steal it.
All right, friends.
Uh, but give it a shot.

(46:16):
Uh, one more run, the podcast.
And you can't find it.
It's easier to find on Apple, but you can find it on Spotify
also.
Bob, I got a question, Bob.
Who's running this race thisweekend?
Well, funny you should ask that,John, because it's time for the
2025 Rise and Run Podcast, Wineand Dine race roll call.

(46:41):
This is fun.
We do it every race.
We started it.
We just said this is the fourthanniversary.
You know, we did a race rollcall for the 2021 wine and dine.
Did you guys know that?
I didn't remember it.
Our good friend Rob, who is ahuge help with putting this kind

(47:02):
of stuff together, he put somedata together for us.
And in 2021, we did the wine anddine roll call.
I don't know if you're lookingon the sheet or not, guys.
You want to guess how manypeople that we talked about that
ran the challenge?
Thirteen.
Anybody else?
I cheated.

SPEAKER_10 (47:23):
I looked at it already, so I know the answer.

SPEAKER_05 (47:25):
I I'm a horrible guesser.
You're close, Greg.

SPEAKER_10 (47:28):
Greg, you lost, Greg.
You went over.
You're close.
Oh, dang.
Should have went one dollar.

SPEAKER_06 (47:35):
Ten.
Ten people.
I wonder how long that took us.

SPEAKER_05 (47:40):
Oh, that's funny.

SPEAKER_06 (47:41):
Yeah.

Well, you could you can have a blonde hair on a
reindeer.

That how there are differentDisney adults.
I'm not, I don't know.
I don't know the contemporarymovies because my children had
no children.
I have no grandchildren.
So I know the movies from myera.
I'm talking Peter Pan and OldYeller and Bambi and all that.

(01:05:04):
I know them from my kids' era.

SPEAKER_09 (01:05:06):
Um, I just named two of the most depressing movies
ever.
Old Yeller and Bambi.

SPEAKER_06 (01:05:13):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_10 (01:05:14):
Who cried when old Yeller got shot?
Jeez.

SPEAKER_06 (01:05:17):

I I remember my dad.

Old Yeller is the first movie Iremember my father taking me to.
Was it the first?
I don't know.
First I remember.
Because I remember walking in,he goes, I don't want you to be
upset.
The dog dies at the end.

SPEAKER_09 (01:05:36):
Boy, Bob just unpacked a lot of childhood
trauma based on the movies thathe just named.

SPEAKER_06 (01:05:43):
I hope I didn't spoil the end of Old Yeller for
anybody who hasn't seen it yet.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_05 (01:05:52):
Oh my gosh, such a sad movie.

SPEAKER_06 (01:05:55):
Oh what else have I got in my quiver here that I can
shoot downrange?
I can't think of it.

SPEAKER_09 (01:06:03):
What are you dressing up as the half so we
can misidentify that?

SPEAKER_06 (01:06:06):
Anyway, the point is there's a whole generation of
Disney movies I know nothingabout.
And uh clearly Frozen is amongstthem.

SPEAKER_05 (01:06:15):
You should watch it.
You can quote.

SPEAKER_06 (01:06:17):
I may have watched it, to be honest.
Greg's gonna really love this.
One I have not been able to stayawake through the entire movie.
The goofy movie.

SPEAKER_09 (01:06:31):
Alright, folks.
It was nice seeing you enjoy oneand die.

SPEAKER_05 (01:06:43):
It's okay.
I still haven't seen the soundof music.

SPEAKER_06 (01:06:47):
Ooh.
That's my era.
That's like 1968.

SPEAKER_10 (01:06:50):
That was uh what's that on Sunday night, Bob,
right?

SPEAKER_06 (01:06:55):
Eventually it was.
I thought I saw it in a theater.
The wonderful world of Disney.
Yeah, it could have been.
But it would have been over acouple of weeks because it was a
long movie.
Yeah.
There was a time when movies hadintermissions.
At the theater, not as adrive-thru where they're playing
double feature, but there were acouple.
Gone with the wind is a goodexample.

(01:07:17):
If it's a long movie, it had anintermission, yeah.
Titanic did, didn't it?

SPEAKER_10 (01:07:21):
I think.

SPEAKER_05 (01:07:21):
Oh yeah.
Titanic, I'm like, yeah, becauseuh I remember we have like this
like VHS set and it has like thebreaks in between.

SPEAKER_06 (01:07:29):
Titanic had an intermission?
I didn't know that.

SPEAKER_05 (01:07:31):
Oh yeah.
Um, but Sandy actually has twoVHSs because it's so long.
I have it as like one of mykeepsakes up here.

SPEAKER_06 (01:07:41):
Okay.
All right.

village for um appreciationdinners.
It's such a magical place, andand to imagine it then just
draped in in Christmas lights.
And the fact that it's anighttime race, that it just has
to be an awesome experience.

SPEAKER_06 (01:08:54):

I have to take it easy, but umnot only am I cleared to get
back into the gym and do alittle strength training, but
I've got to get some weight off.
I over these last eight weeks orso, I've packed on way too many
pounds, which you can probablysee if you find me walking
around the uh expo.
You can say, Is that Bob?

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
