#32: This week on Rise, Recover, Live, Liz and Bryce The Third welcome back Scott Strode, Founder and Executive Director of The Phoenix, for a long-awaited conversation.
Since his last appearance on the show, a lot has changed—most notably, Scott has written and published his first book. In Rise. Recover. Thrive. he opens up about the cathartic, sometimes scary, and emotional process of translating his personal journey into recovery onto paper, while spotlighting the work of The Phoenix movement.
Through the writing process, Scott reflects on what makes The Movement so powerful: the belief that those seen as "the problem" in society are actually the solution. By focusing on the strength in people and treating folks with dignity, we can all thrive and even reach back a hand to help those behind us.
Now, nearly two decades since founding The Phoenix, Scott seeks to memorialize the ethos of this work. Even if The Phoenix isn't the one to ultimately transform how our society approaches addiction, the ideas can inform those who come after, aiding them in carrying the movement even further.
Tune in to hear Scott's wisdom as we discuss what first inspired him to start this work, how that motivation has changed, and why thriving—no matter how distant it may seem—remains the goal, and much more.
