Speaker 1 (00:19):
Well, it's time for
Road Adventures with Cycling Men
of Leisure, the podcast forcyclists who understand that
riding is not just about gettingto the destination, but the
experience along the way.
Now here are the originalCycling Men of Leisure Adam and
Michael.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
Welcome to Road
Adventures of Cycling Men of
Leisure.
As usual, I am Adam and onceagain, lucky for me, I am joined
by my good friend in CentralTime Zone, Mr Michael Sharp.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
Hello.
Thank you, adam, how are youdoing?
Speaker 2 (00:50):
Doing good, doing
good.
I am starting to think aboutthe holiday season, hence the
fact that we teased that we'regoing to have our Christmas wish
list, that we tease that we'regoing to have our Christmas wish
list, but before that we arerecording on a very special day.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
In honor of a very
special day.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
In honor of some very
special people.
Absolutely.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
Happy Veterans Day.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
Happy Veterans Day.
Now our friend Ed, who listensat 1.6, is going to get through
this pretty quick.
Thank you for those who served.
(02:28):
Thank you for everybody whosacrificed so you and I can be
free, sir.
So you and I can have thispodcast.
That's true.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
We thank all of them
from all the different branches
of the service and you can't seeit.
But down here on the floor overhere I've got an old like a
ammunition box and I've got someold helmets and some metals and
things like that Not that Iearned by no means, but and some
trench art and stuff like that.
(02:58):
So I honor them in my roomevery single day and we
certainly appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Well, definitely, for
sure, for sure.
We're recording.
On November 11th, on VeteransDay, and I went out last night
with my father and my father isa veteran and we had no idea
that the regular restaurant thatwe go to was honoring veterans
(03:25):
on Sunday night and the waitresscame up and she said are you a
veteran?
He said I am.
She said well, you get a freesteak dinner tonight, and so
that was a little bit of asurprise.
That's awesome, but we justwanted to honor those and pay
respect.
So, thank you.
We put out a little thing onFacebook today as well, so, and
(03:47):
Instagram, but, that being said,I know that you and I both want
to just say thank you, but Ithink we should get into our
leisure community and definitelyloving.
We've got some information.
We've got some information.
We've got some stuff.
And so the first thing is, ifyou remember, just a few days
(04:13):
ago, when our show came out eventhough this is coming out two
weeks later for everybody else Iwas wearing a very sporty, very
looking, fine shirt that saidDebrim on it, and our friend
Melanie said that is a smartlooking T-shirt, love it.
So thank you, melanie.
I appreciate that.
(04:33):
I also have an update.
Are we done talking aboutDebrim?
Speaker 3 (04:39):
I'll come back to my
desk now.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
Yeah, come on back,
come on, come on, come on For
those of you not watching.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
I made a silent
protest by leaving my camered
area and stepping away.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
Yeah, because
remember friends.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
Don't let friends
wear the brims beep him out of
there.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
So um, so um, in a
weird kind of twist, a friend of
the show, stephen Witts, wroteus a message and he said happy
Remembrance Day today, guys.
And so he did see our post onFacebook and so and Mr Stephen
Witts also made a verysignificant donation.
(05:20):
So, sir, for that we wanted toboth say thank you so much.
We appreciate you, Thank yousir.
For that we wanted to both saythank you so much.
We appreciate you.
And even though you and I arerecording less than 24 hours
after the show came outyesterday in true spirit our
friend Matt Robinson, or as youwould call him, mark, of course
(05:44):
he has got a guest for listenerspotlight.
All right, well, let's hear it.
All right, do you want to givethe guesses first?
But the clues?
I can do that.
I also heard from my cousinmark.
I told the story in the lastshow about working at a caboose
(06:04):
and my cousin mark Mark said hecalled me and he said wait a
minute, wait a minute, wait aminute.
Which uncle had a caboose?
Well, just to be clear, growingup my father's best friend
would hang out and of course Iwould always say what do I call
him?
And he said well, you couldjust call him Uncle Jim.
So just to clarify, he was justmy dad's best friend, but I
(06:26):
always called him Uncle Jim.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
Now I have a quick
question.
Yeah, Is this the Jim that Imet in Orlando?
It is.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
That is correct.
Awesome, yes, absolutely.
A couple years ago, yeah, Icame down and I was doing some
golfing while you were at aconference, and then we all
bellied up to a Panera Bread.
Yes that is the same one, justmaking sure.
So, anyways, wanted to just getthat out there, and so, yes,
(07:01):
without further ado, it is nowtime for Listener Spotlight.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
All right, the hints
that I gave you on the last
episode were as follows.
The community's original namewas Swiss in origin.
It was called New Havala, newHavala, new Havala.
The town was originally laidout in the mid-1800s.
(07:29):
If you are a squirrel or a bird, this town is where you want to
be, and in this town Okay, scratch that one.
This community can lay claim toplaying a major role In the
early communications Across thiscountry.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
Okay, our friend Matt
Robinson said Great show this
week, fellas.
Can't go wrong with a bourbonand a good podcast about my
favorite thing, amen.
I love it.
He says I know my guess iswrong.
Can't go wrong with a bourbonand a good podcast about my
favorite thing, amen.
I love it Absolutely.
He says.
I know my guess is wrong, butit came down to either New
(08:12):
Glarus, wisconsin, orPlacerville, california, new.
Speaker 3 (08:17):
Glarus, there's a
beer named that.
It's a very good beer, by theway, just letting you know.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
He says I'm going
with placerville.
Its name is to honor JohnSutter, who was a Swiss
immigrant.
Okay, it's a gold rush town.
It was a pony express hub.
It's one of the oldestincorporated towns in California
.
The bird squirrel clue is anon-clue or it's so vague that
(08:53):
it was no help at all.
He gives an opinion about.
He says unless people startgetting these, maybe they'll
stop playing.
Speaker 3 (09:04):
So is he saying if I
don't start making him easier,
he's not going to participate?
Speaker 2 (09:08):
I hope he still
participates because I love his.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
I love his guesses I
do love his guesses he says have
a good day sorry I make thesehard.
And here's, here's.
Let me just explain reallyquick.
Here's the hard thing nowadaysuh, way years back I worked in
radio and, uh, every wednesdaysI did some trivia and back then
it was easy because this wasbefore the internet and, you
(09:33):
know, people didn't have ready, readily ready access to a lot of
this type of information.
But nowadays you got to make ittough because I can't just say,
oh, oh, they're the home to thelargest, you know, ball of
popcorn.
People can just go on there andimmediately hear us.
So I'm trying to make it sopeople can't just immediately go
(09:53):
on and guess.
But we'll get around tosomething.
I'm going to do a little bitdifferent this time around.
But you want me to tell youwhat the community was?
Yes, please.
You want me to tell you whatthe community was?
Yes, please.
Now I am going ahead and givingMatt credit for this one.
(10:22):
Now, although there's a caveatalthough he's not 100 dead on
the mark, he is within 50 milesoh the town that I'm referring
to is sacramento, california, which I believe is like 49 miles
(10:42):
would be west.
Southwest sacramento is like 49miles southwest of placerville.
Okay, so I am going to give himcredit for that one, because
he's very close.
Originally it was settled byswiss immigrants.
The town was originally laidout in 1848.
Here's a.
(11:04):
Here's the hard one.
If you are a squirrel or a bird, this town is where you want to
be, and that is because the cityof Sacramento is known as the
city of trees, and it is knownfor that because it has more
trees per capita than any cityin the world.
So, as a squirrel, great placeto go, hang out, and then the
(11:32):
community can lay claim toplaying a major role in early
communications across the us.
He was very close when he saidthe pony express hub.
The terminus of the ponyexpress was actually sacramento,
california started, and itstarted in saint joe, missouri,
which is right up the road.
The terminus of the Pony Expresswas actually Sacramento,
california.
It started in St Joe, missouri, which is right up the road from
me.
Here Went all the way across.
Ten days later they ended up inSacramento.
(11:54):
It ran for about, I think, like13 months, something like that,
because the telegram and thingslike that Transcontinental
railroad and things like thatreplaced it.
But for those 13 months thatwas the way to go and also it
was the terminus for the firsttranscontinental railroad as
well, so big hub forcommunication going from east to
(12:18):
west in this country back inthose days.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
That's pretty cool
that's pretty cool.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
So he was right on on
, right on point with it.
So, being that close, I'll givehim, I'll give him full credit
for that one thank you, matt, and thank you listeners from
sacramento, california.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
Thank you all
listeners, but especially this
time, sacramento california.
Now that gives a little segue.
You, uh, did some some hardwork.
You put in some work on ourwebsite and I wanted to say
thank you.
And the reason why I'mmentioning it again is as if you
haven't caught our last show,Michael is beginning to put all
(12:59):
of the listener spotlights on anew webpage at
cyclingmanofleisurecom.
Wwwcyclingmanofleisurecom.
And look for the listenerspotlight page.
It's on the right side.
You pull down this arrow with abunch of pages and it's there
and Michael has put.
If you're curious, if your townhas ever been guessed or called
(13:20):
or mentioned or spotlighted,it'll be there and I assume that
in two weeks.
You probably won't do it rightnow because we're recording
early to try to get ready forthe holidays.
But I imagine soon after thiscomes out, you'll update the
website.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
Yes, and the other
thing I'm going to try to add on
that is I'm going to try to addand I haven't done it it yet is
the episode number.
So if you, uh, startedlistening in you didn't hear
your town, you go back and say,oh hey, they did St Louis, I
would like to listen to that.
Then it would tell them whatepisode they need.
So I've got a little bit morework to do, but I want to get
them all up there so people cansee if their community has ever
(14:02):
been spotlight on our show.
Speaker 2 (14:05):
This is a little
behind the scenes, but you know,
with the new platform, newwebpage, they're going to make
that really simple for you, because you could just search in
the search field and you'll beable to find your episode.
There you go, see, there you go, All right.
Well, I wanted to make sure Imentioned that and I think it is
(14:26):
boy, we're just burning through.
I think it is officially timeto get into the main, what we
tease, the main piece of thisshow, and I think we'll start
off with first this.
Speaker 3 (14:53):
So, um, oh, I better
let that play and if you can't,
if you're not watching us.
He's also got a graph of adancing Santa going on here as
well, so it's making me laugh.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
So we, last year we
put out a wishlist of things to
buy the cyclist in your life.
You know, if you have a familymember or friend or something
for, for you know, thenon-denominational holiday.
Just kidding.
Speaker 3 (15:25):
For Christmas, for
Kwanzaa Jingle bells, jingle
bells, jingle all the way.
Speaker 4 (15:31):
Oh, what fun it is to
ride in a one-horse open sleigh
.
Santa Claus is coming to town.
Speaker 3 (15:38):
Hey, I had to go, as
I was saying for Christmas,
hanukkah, kwanzaa whatever youcelebrate or even birthdays,
this would be a great gift listto use.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
Absolutely so.
Last year your wife actuallywent out and found a couple
items off the list and purchasedit for you, so hopefully you
have a little bit of aself-interest in your own list
this time, because I bet youshe's going to do a repetitive
process.
Speaker 3 (16:05):
Yeah, I think pretty
Christmas as soon as the 12 year
old running the show here stopspushing buttons.
We can.
We can continue.
Speaker 5 (16:18):
Wait, one more, one
more, one more, ladies and
gentlemen in the white cornerstanding at six foot three inch
tall and weighing 168 pounds, acharacter who has faced some
incredible obstacles.
The tallest elf of all time, buddy the Elf.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
That's one of our
favorite movies for the holidays
.
It's pretty good.
So what we're going to do iswe're going to.
Michael and I both havegathered some items.
I don't know.
We don't know what each otherhas gathered.
I hope we don't both say thesame thing.
Speaker 3 (17:02):
And the show's boring
.
We do, we both.
Each other has gathered.
I hope we don't both say thesame thing and the show's boring
If we do.
We both said the same thing.
No, he has not shared his listwith me.
I've not shared my list withhim, so who knows what we're
going to have?
But these are gift ideas thatwe found that we thought would
be great gift ideas for thecyclist in your life.
So if you're like I don't knowwhat to get a cyclist, we have a
(17:24):
wide range of gifts.
They're not all gadgets andgizmos for your bicycle.
Some of them, at least on myside, are cycling related.
Um, so a little something foreverybody, and they're all sorts
of price points, fromrelatively inexpensive all the
way up.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
So I have five items.
How many do you have?
Speaker 3 (17:46):
Well, I'm not an
underachiever, I've got like 10
or 11.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
Oh boy.
Speaker 3 (17:52):
These are quality.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
Well, we didn't talk
about this ahead of time?
Why don't we let you go with acouple and then I'll go with one
, then you go with a couple.
Then we can kind of work it out.
Speaker 3 (18:03):
Here we go, and I
don't have graphics for mine.
Uh, my goal is that I will putthese, list them, on the website
so that you guys will haveaccess to these, uh, once the
show comes out.
But my first one is the Ravemanbike light.
Oh and um, 160 lumens, um, it'sgot a type c charger.
(18:26):
It's got a warning flash modeon it.
Uh, what is different aboutthis light?
Everybody's like, well, we'vegot a light.
What is different about thislight is is that it is a light
that fits on like a regulartwist type adjustment uh
attachment on your bike, but onthe top of that it has another
one of those twist type things,so you can have your bike light
(18:49):
and on top of it you can attachyour bike computer oh, that's
cool so it turns out to be allone unit.
You got the light, you got thebike computer right there in one
unit that's I like that and, uh, the attachments on the top
will fit both the garmin and thewahoo.
So, um, you just have your lightand your computer all coupled
(19:11):
into one.
You know one mount, and youdon't have to have a mount for
the light and a mount for thecomputer.
I thought it was kind of cool.
Um, you can look them up.
It's raveman r-a-v-e-m-e-n bikelight.
They run about 40.
Okay, the next one on my listis called the craft cadence
(19:31):
cycling wallet, and what this isis this is a that's about the
size of a large cell phone.
Um, so it acts as a cell phonecase, a wallet and a tool
organizer.
It can fit in your back jerseypocket.
It's waterproof.
It'll fit a tube, a telephone,a multi-tool, a CO2 inflator
(19:53):
with a canister, a key hook inthere and a credit card slot and
also tire lever, so you can fiteverything in there.
It zips up.
You can stick it right in yourjersey.
The other cool thing about thisit also has two straps so that
you can then strap it to yourbike if you want to turn it into
a bike bag.
Speaker 2 (20:13):
Cool.
Speaker 3 (20:14):
And this is called
the Craft Cadence Cycling Wallet
.
That's also about $40.
But they're really cool andthey're waterproof.
Speaker 2 (20:23):
All right, now it is
my turn the Debrim.
Ladies and gentlemen, I believethat a good gift for someone on
your seasonal Christmas listthis year would be the DeBrim.
See, the DeBrim offers sunprotection, but also offers rain
(20:47):
protection and, I have to say,can look stylish on certain
people like myself.
Speaker 3 (20:52):
No, it does not look
stylish.
And let me say this right nowChas, I do not want a DeBrim, so
please.
Feliz Navidad.
Speaker 2 (21:02):
Feliz Navidad, feliz
Navidad.
Speaker 3 (21:07):
This is music right
to your wife's ears.
Speaker 2 (21:10):
Prospero año y
felicidad.
I appreciate that.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
I want to wish you a
Merry Christmas.
With a Debrim I want to wishyou a Merry Christmas.
Speaker 2 (21:21):
With a DeBrim.
I want to wish you a MerryChristmas from the bottom of my
heart.
Okay, okay, it is now your turn.
Speaker 3 (21:36):
Let's move on to like
a gift people would really
enjoy.
Ouch, yeah, uh-huh, uh-huhhuh.
I went there.
I tell you what.
Here's a good one, and this isgetting into more of um.
If you want something for yourhome, a little decor, maybe
something for the office, maybesomething for the man cave or
(21:57):
the lady cave, whatever the casemight be, okay how about a bike
chain coasters set.
Speaker 2 (22:04):
Ooh, I like that.
Speaker 3 (22:04):
That's cool and what
these are is.
It's a.
It's a round, they're roundbamboo and they have like a
little engraving of like a roadbike on there and then in the
outside they've taken a usedchain, a recycled bike chain,
and put around the outside andthey come in a set of four.
There's several differentstyles.
You around the outside and theycome in a set of four.
There's several differentstyles.
You can get different kinds ofbikes engraved on like the
(22:25):
bamboo or the wood and you canfind those.
Just look up bike chaincoasters on Etsy and they're
around $30 per set.
But you can you know, spruce upyour your pad there with some
cycling coasters Happy holidaysLove it, love it.
(22:51):
And the other one, which will bea real oh, this is a good one.
This is getting a little bitmore expensive, but the uh
schultz open run pro um.
That's spelled s-h-o K-Z, andwhat this is is this is an open
ear, bluetooth, bone conductivesports headphone.
So basically it fits aroundyour head and, instead of going
in your ears, it sets rightbelow your ears, like right on
(23:13):
the top of your jawbone, and thesounds are all conducted
basically through your bones, basically through your bones.
So if you want to enjoy yourmusic, talk on the phone, do
whatever while you're cycling, you know most people don't want
to stick something in their ear,so you can just put these on.
It's right, sits right there.
(23:33):
They're very comfortable.
Know a lot of people that usethem.
They've got great sound quality.
They come with vibrationreduction, so you don't have to
worry about a lot of that, andthey have 12 hour batteries on
them.
Quality they come withvibration reduction, so you
don't have to worry about a lotof that.
And they have 12-hour batterieson them so you can recharge
them for up to 12 hours.
So this would be a goodsolution if you want to listen
to music but don't want to stickstuff in your ears to impede
(23:53):
you possibly hearing cars orpeople yelling or whatever the
case might be.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
Those are $160, but
they're very cool and definitely
worth it like our friendarmando said, music is like
secondhand smoke not everybodywants to he definitely doesn't
like the, the music while, uh,while he's writing.
Speaker 3 (24:15):
I, on the other hand,
enjoy it.
That was one of my big thingsthat I've always enjoyed in rag
braai is you'll be cycling andeverybody's got music of some
kind, and so when you find asong that I really like, I'll
like kind of slow down, like youknow, get in behind them,
listen to the music until thesongs get something I don't like
and then I'll go on to somebodyelse, which is great.
(24:35):
The only problem is is that oneperson playing opera or you
know 15 banjo songs right in arow and they're riding exactly
the same pace as you are and youcan't get away from them.
So one time I was listening yes, what about this?
That would be very annoying.
I one time rode I swear like 22miles.
(24:59):
I could not lose this person.
Even when I slowed down alittle bit, they seemed to slow
down, I think they knew, andthey literally were playing
banjo music and I went like 22miles with nothing but hearing
banjo music.
So at least we weren't, youknow, out in the woods somewhere
, you know what they say aboutyou know, was it banjo banjos?
Speaker 2 (25:16):
no, it was just banjo
music happy holidays.
Speaker 3 (25:18):
Oh my god, no, it was
just banjo music.
Happy holidays.
Oh my God, Keep your hands offof the control panel.
Speaker 2 (25:29):
Happy holidays.
All right, my turn, yes.
So now what we're going to dois we're going to bring
something the brim was thrown infor humor, but I do believe it
would be a good present forsomebody for humor, but I do
believe it would be a goodpresent for somebody.
But this is a $30 price pointitem and I truly believe that if
your member of your family orfriend or something you're
(25:51):
trying to get something forcycling for doesn't have one of
these it is the Swiss Army Knifegift of cycling tools.
It is the Park Tool Multi-Toolcycling tools.
It is the part tool multi-tool.
It comes in at 29.95, but thisone is specifically made for
road bikes and most of not all,but some of the.
I mean not just road bikes butdisc brakes, and that black
(26:15):
thing is for the co2 cartridge,um, so you can actually screw
one in there if you don't havethe Cyplus pump that we talked
about on last year's Christmaswish list.
But this is a nice $30 parttool tool built really well.
If you're not familiar, parttool is a great company when it
(26:35):
comes to bike tools.
So I thought that I wouldrecommend the part tool
multi-tool and specifically theMTC40 has got all of the things
that you would need for along-distance ride.
So if your partner listens tous or your family member or
somebody listens to us and theydon't have one of these, this
(26:58):
would be something good to puton their stocking, or something
like that.
Speaker 3 (27:02):
And let me just say
right now this is something that
Adam needs, cause, if Iremember right, yours rusted out
.
Speaker 2 (27:07):
I will be buying
myself one.
There you go.
Speaker 3 (27:10):
It's set in the bag
and the bag had gotten wet over
the years and it had gottenrusty.
That's okay.
Okay, I will follow that upwith another cycling tool.
This is called the tire glider, and and it's T-Y-R-E Glider.
What this is is this is a wayto effortlessly change your tire
(27:33):
.
This is actually patented inthe UK.
It's made in the UK as alifetime guarantee.
It's only like six and a halfinches by like a little over
three inches, by eight inches, and what this is is a single
tool that replaces your levers, and basically what you do is you
can put this in here and youcan just glide around your tire
(27:55):
to pull it out and get it going, and then, when you're ready to
put the tire in, you hook itback in and you just zip it
around.
Put the tire in, you hook itback in and it's.
You just zip it around and, uh,you're basically using instead
of, you know, using more of thewrist, you use more of the arm,
your full arm, when you're doingit.
It's super easy, it's reallycool.
Uh, and you don't have to worryabout so much that whole
(28:15):
digging into the side.
Um, I've seen it done a coupleof times, especially on.
You know, carbon tires, carbonwheels and it works beautifully.
So I would say, definitelycheck that out.
You can throw away those leversand this is something you can
find on Amazon for $16.
So it would be a great stockingstuffer.
Speaker 2 (28:37):
Very nice.
Christmas comes but once a yearoh geez.
Speaker 3 (28:41):
Let's see here.
Nice, christmas comes, but oncea year.
Oh geez, let's see here.
So you get me alldiscombobulated here the other
thing I came up with stopplaying with the buttons, geez
um.
How about a bicycle etchedwhiskey decanter?
Speaker 2 (29:04):
Oh man.
Speaker 3 (29:05):
See A nice glass
decanter with two rocks glasses
that has a road bike etched onit, and you can actually also,
underneath the road bike, getyour name etched in it.
So you know, we could do likethe last name Sharp or whatever
etched underneath it.
You can get these at etsysimply by looking up bicycle
etched whiskey decanters.
(29:25):
Uh, they're only about 70 andthat's the decanter, and you get
two rock glasses with it aswell, and the rocks glasses are
also etched too.
So you've got a full matchingset.
If you want four, you canactually get four glasses as
well that's cool okay, I think, what do you got?
Speaker 2 (29:44):
I think first of all,
we're going to play a little
sound effect, as I show you itwas the night before christmas,
went all through the house okay,so now not even a mouse look at
this oh, this is a good one.
Speaker 3 (30:00):
I know what this is.
Speaker 2 (30:01):
Yeah, you and I found
this together, but I put it on
my list.
So Trek has come out with aBell Beats digital bike bell
speaker.
But not only is it a bike bell, but it has, like all these
sound effects.
It's a Bluetooth speaker thatstreams music, podcasts or audio
(30:22):
navigation from a connectedphone, because some people, when
we go on the rides, when theyget the ride with GPS, they just
use their phone and I heartheir phone in the back of their
jersey, but this would actuallyconnect to their phone.
They could keep their phone inthe back of their jersey.
It has eight preloaded sounds, from urgent to alerting others,
(30:43):
which the one we saw was like.
Speaker 3 (30:48):
And it also had the
old Ooga horn on it too.
Oh, it had the dive, thesubmarine dive too.
That was cool.
Speaker 2 (30:56):
Alert tones are
engineered to be easily located
by others and less surprised ina smile.
Engineered to be easily locatedby others and less surprised
than a smile.
Easily accessible Controls fourdigital bars to see the LED
lights.
It's rechargeable with theUSB-C.
It's IP67 dust and waterresistance rating.
(31:16):
It includes the mounts, theshims, the bell clip, the
charging cable and compatiblewith bars that are 25 to 31
millimeters.
I thought it was actuallyreally cool.
It's $100 currently.
Maybe you can find a deal orsomething.
I actually was pretty impressed.
(31:38):
I thought it was pretty cool.
Oh, I like it too.
It's pretty neat For $99.99,.
Let's check out the review.
Since we are a podcast, it'spretty good.
People like the bell soundsawesome, superb.
Oh, wonderful reviews.
This is what I've been lookingfor more colors, please.
It does come in black.
Oh, you're playing the songsfrom.
(32:03):
I love it.
Uh, nice bell, love it dive, dive, dive you're supposed to be
diving on your bicycle, um butum, yeah, 10 reviews so far and
so far very high rating.
So 100 bucks trek.
Uh, highly recommend that.
That's a good present, lauren,if you're listening, I would
(32:24):
enjoy that lauren, he also needsa new debrem, or not?
I do mine's.
A little sun faded what elseshe?
Speaker 3 (32:34):
oh, it's my turn,
isn't it?
Speaker 2 (32:36):
yes, sir okay.
Speaker 3 (32:39):
Next thing I have
here is um, it's called a
fidlock twist bottle, uh 600plus a bike base, and what this
is is this is a new way ofgetting rid of the cycling, the
bike cages for your waterbottles yeah so it's a fidlock
twist bike, uh, bottle 600.
It's got a magnetic mechanicalclosure system.
(33:01):
So what you do is you've got awater bottle that's got these
two kind of clips on it, uh, andwhere you have your basket,
your current water bottle cageor basket you, take that off and
you put this other piece on andyou just put the bottle on
there and click it into place.
It just kind of rotates with thewrist, snaps right into place.
It makes a little audible click, so you know it's in there.
(33:23):
Um, it's really cool.
I mean you don't have to worryabout like trying, because you
know I've got stuff on my bikeand it's hard for me sometimes
to get the water bottle straightdown.
You just put it next to it,twist it with your wrist, it
twists right on there, magnetically, snaps in.
Um 45 it's the fidlock twistbottle, 600 plus the base.
So for 45 you get a bottle anda base, a base, and then, uh,
(33:48):
replacement bottles are 20.
So I thought this is somethingreally cool.
That would be a new way of ofuh holding your water bottle,
that you wouldn't have to worryabout trying to get it down into
the, into the cage or the.
Speaker 2 (34:02):
Yeah, this is because
so, when you leave your water
bottle somewhere, at least youfound out how much replacement
would be well, I mean, if you'resomebody who leaves water
bottles on that note, let's playsome sound effects I.
Speaker 3 (34:20):
I have on occasion
left a water bottle, but the one
I left in Georgia, to becompletely honest, had been
fouled by the sulfur water thatwe had at that one stop.
Speaker 2 (34:33):
Yes, In 2022, we rode
peaches to beaches.
Yes, and at the very last rest, stop there was a church Right
next to the cemetery.
Right next to the cemetery.
And you know, throughout I meanthroughout the whole ride we
had done very well by findingwater and snacks and both of us
(34:57):
filled up our water bottles, thinking we got one stage left,
we're going to finish this thing, and both of us took a big old
gulp and we, we were like whoa, that that was a.
That was a surprise, to say theleast.
Speaker 3 (35:11):
So heavily sulfured
water.
I mean I would have thoughtliterally I would that much
sulfur I was expecting to besomewhere near like a volcano or
you know Yellowstone nationalpark where there's lots of
geysers and a lot of sulfur, because, man, it was, I don't
know where the water came out ofthe hose, obviously, but I
(35:33):
don't know where they're gettingtheir water.
But they better, better bedrinking the bottled stuff,
cause it was not fit to drink,so all right.
Because it was not fit to drink, so all right, I believe it's
still mine.
Yes, sir, the next one I'mgoing to go with is a product by
Rose Villa R-O-S-A.
Rosa Villa B-I-L-A.
(35:53):
Okay, and this is for your homeand it is a funny cycling
candle.
So for the people that want tocreate a little ambiance, you
know for the cyclist, want tocreate a little ambiance, you
know, for the cyclist who haseverything, all the little
gadgets and gizmos, you can getthem a funny cycling candle that
smells and I quote, smells likethe opposite of cycling shorts.
(36:14):
So that's a plus.
Speaker 2 (36:18):
I hope so.
Speaker 3 (36:20):
Infused with Dawn
spirit, conquering miles on
pedals and seasoned with briskair in the early ride.
It is a lavender and sagecandle.
It has a wooden wick and Ibelieve those are around $20.
You can find them out there, but it smells, know.
(36:40):
It smells the opposite ofcycling shorts.
So how bad can that be?
Speaker 2 (36:44):
That sounds good.
Actually, I hope.
Anyways, All right, All right,my turn Now.
This is something that Ithought you would get a little
bit of a kick out of, butactually I do think it would be
a little expensive, but Ithought it would be a good gift.
I do think it would be a littleexpensive, but I thought it
(37:04):
would be a good gift.
So I can go back to 2016, 2015,.
Making a phone call to youabout do I need a bike lock?
Speaker 3 (37:13):
Right about this time
of the year, right about this
time.
Speaker 2 (37:16):
Yeah, we were getting
ready to go to Ragbriar and we
did a phone call with you and Iand Joe and Ernie and I said,
hey, well, I need a bike lock.
And you said, oh, no, you don'tneed a bike lock.
And that can count, on one hand, the amount of times of all of
our trips that we've done andwe've got a lot of miles
together, sir, oh yes, sir, where a bike lock may have come
(37:37):
in handy.
And when I was looking at thisI thought this was kind of cool.
So check this out, this is abike lock uh, fidget spinner no,
it's not a fidget spinner.
Look at this it is.
Uh, I'm trying to get thepicture.
Speaker 3 (37:59):
Those old-fashioned
rulers.
Yeah, exactly construction guysused to use back in the 50s.
But look how it folds up, man,I'm trying to get the picture.
It's like those old-fashionedrulers.
Yeah, exactly Construction guysused to use back in the 50s.
Speaker 2 (38:05):
But look how it folds
up, man.
It folds up and then it's $89.
It's called a foldy lock,compact folding bike lock, a
foldy lock, a foldy lock.
It's like a Goldilocks, butit's a foldy lock, merry
Christmas.
So what you need is you need anaward-winning patent,
(38:29):
lightweight, high-security bikelock, heavy-duty, anti-theft,
smart, secure guard with key andcase for bike or scooter.
Now I'm going to show you here.
It says you can't hit it with abolt cutter.
You can't hit it with a hacksaw, you can't use it with a freeze
(38:49):
attack, you can't do a carbidehacksaw.
Although it just says a carbidehacksaw, maybe a regular
regular steel hacksaw like youwould not believe.
but uh, yeah, uh, it folds upand fits on the frame of your
bicycle, and then you can openit up and use all kinds of
contraptions.
Speaker 3 (39:09):
It could be used as a
necklace for your girlfriend
there, like she's showing in thepicture.
Speaker 2 (39:13):
Well, she's got the
mini one on her neck and then
she's got the big one around herhead.
But I do have a video here.
See, look at that Folds down.
Look at that Goes inside thecase.
It's like he's loading it likea gun.
Nice, key Goes through theframe.
(39:34):
Look at that Beautifulautomotive key industry Locking
as possible from endless angles.
Nice, look at that.
Looks good.
So if you are in a need, pleaseremember I am aware that a bike
lock only keeps honest peopleaway.
So if you're looking for a lockand you're looking for it to be
(39:57):
easy and have it with you, thenthere you go $89.
It has a lot of wonderfulratings, so I just kind of
wanted to show you that.
Speaker 3 (40:10):
Okay, Are you done
with this nonsense?
Oh my gosh.
Speaker 2 (40:14):
What if someone out
there is really looking?
Speaker 3 (40:17):
for their.
Speaker 2 (40:17):
Christmas, yeah, with
Road Adventures of Captain
Manifestation.
Speaker 3 (40:21):
Thank you for
bringing that up.
If somebody's looking for abike lock, I have even a better
bike lock than that thing hejust showed you.
Ho, ho, ho, ho, ho.
Merry Christmas.
Exactly for a bike lock, I haveeven a better bike lock than
that thing he just showed you.
Ho, ho, ho, ho, ho.
Merry Christmas.
Exactly, it's going to be aMerry Christmas to the people
needing bike lock, because thebike lock that I have that I'm
going to suggest is the RockBrothers Road to Sky Bike Cable
(40:42):
Lock.
And this is even better becauseyou don't have to fold it up,
you don't have to stick it in alittle bag, you don't have to
wrap it on your bike.
This lock is actually a cablelock that is hidden inside your
handlebars.
so the end of, like the end ofyour handlebar that like holds
(41:03):
the tape.
It actually comes off and outfrom that comes this cable and
you wrap it around your bike andyour tire and it has a lock
right there that's hooked to itand boom, when you're done, you
unlock it, slide it back intoyour handlebar, boom, you're
ready to go.
(41:26):
There is something to be saidabout replacing Adam with AI.
But don't be a hater Cause.
This is good 25.6 inches long,so two feet, a little over two
feet.
Steel cable with PVC coatingweighs 50 grams, comes with two
keys and no, are we going tospend $90 on this?
(41:46):
Are we going to spend $89 onthis?
Going to spend 89 on this, likewhat adam wants you to spend?
You can get this for 60.
The rock brothers road to skybike cable lock.
Speaker 2 (41:57):
That's the lock you
need which you got to say it
like ronco dehydrator, not 80, Imean not 90, not 80, not 70,
and not 65, but for $59.95.
Speaker 3 (42:09):
I don't know, maybe
they'll do some kind of payment
plan $19.99.
No but it's funny when you'reshowing this, but this is a
really cool lock because youjust literally pull it out, go
around your frame around thetube, goes back up and it has a
little lock that it hooks rightto and boom, it's all right
there.
When you're done, it just goesright back into your handlebars
(42:31):
that's pretty cool actually, sobut you've got options now on
the bike lock uh world.
Speaker 2 (42:36):
What if they just
take the handlebars off?
Speaker 3 (42:40):
oh, they could, but
you know what if they?
Just you know see my lock goesthrough the frame well, no, you
can go through the frame, that'swhat I'm saying.
It's over two feet long, so youcan run it out of your
handlebar through the framethrough the wheel back up where
the handlebar is and lock it soyou can take the handlebar off
but it's still hooked to theframe and the wheel.
Speaker 2 (43:01):
So have you ever seen
when people put like bike locks
on their bike but then reallydon't really attach it to
anything?
Speaker 3 (43:08):
oh yeah, that's like
what I was talking about on the
uh halloween fears, where I saidyou know you, you lock your,
you get your lock out and youlock it to a telephone pole
that's right you're in a hurryand then you run off you come
back and realize you locked thelock to the telephone pole but
forgot to lock your bicycle inthe lock.
Speaker 2 (43:26):
Yes, I forgot, that's
right, you did put that.
But yeah, I see those pictureslike social media or whatever it
says.
Hmm, it shows the bike lockedthrough the bike, or sometimes
like when you go to buy acollege and the frame of the
bike is there, but somebody hasjust stripped everything off the
bike.
Speaker 3 (43:47):
And I do want to say
I had a quick wardrobe change,
in case anybody noticed.
Speaker 2 (43:50):
So wow, look at that.
Speaker 3 (43:54):
Now my fly.
To be completely honest, so Ican explain my power flashed,
went off.
We lost for a second, so in theprocess I threw the sweatshirt
off.
So that's why I'm now in theblue shirt and not the black
shirt.
So I'm sure somebody's going tobe sitting there watching going
.
Wait a minute.
He was just in a blacksweatshirt, Now he's in a blue
collared shirt.
Speaker 2 (44:12):
So that's the reason
why, for Christmas, we can get
you a new Cycling Men of Leisuret-shirt from our jersey store
or our t-shirt store looking fora nice jersey?
Or there's actually a ladiessports bra.
Speaker 3 (44:34):
There's all kinds of
tech gear on there Hats, shirts,
tech gear shorts.
We've even got like mountainbiking shorts if you're into the
mountain biking thing.
So that is another great giftidea by your significant other,
friend, family member, coach, whomever, cycling men of leisure
tech gear or just merch of somekind, for sure.
(44:55):
But I have one more gift item.
Speaker 2 (44:59):
All right, and I have
one more as well, so we'll let
you go and then I'll finish itup.
Speaker 3 (45:04):
Okay, my final gift
item is something near and dear
to our heart.
I thought you know what?
How about a bottle of whiskey?
uh, lauren, clear out your earsand listen what I found is I had
(45:26):
to look for a special bottle ofwhiskey that just screamed
cycling, men of leisure, uh,something that you and I could
sit down and really get into.
And this is what I came up with.
It is from a company called thebeautiful and the damned.
That's not the reason why Ichose it.
They have what they call theirman of leisure straight rye
(45:52):
whiskey.
Wow, it blends barrels uh fromup to six years, blends them
together.
I'd actually won a bronze uhmedal at the world whiskeys
award in 2024.
And what's really cool is it'sgot a picture of benjamin
franklin or a portrait ofbenjamin franklin on the bottle.
That's cool.
The beautiful and cool is it'sgot a picture of Benjamin
Franklin or a portrait ofBenjamin Franklin on the bottle.
That's cool.
The Beautiful and the Damned.
(46:12):
It's the man of leisurestraight rye whiskey.
It's won some awards.
You can get it $70 to $80.
Speaker 2 (46:20):
So you know.
So, lauren, you are beautiful,I am the Damned and I would like
the whiskey.
There we go, perfect, all right.
My last item is something youand I reviewed, and I am so
thinking I'm sold on this.
It's better than the.
Edibrim?
It is not Edibrim, thank God,these are tubes.
(46:41):
Oh yeah, these were the SpingoInner Tubes Lightweight Bicycle
Spare Tire.
Um, a couple reasons why Ithought these were great.
My amazon told me the last timeI purchased them was july 15
2024 here.
But that's okay, 21 for atwo-pack.
Now you and I have to purchasethe 80-millimeter Presta valves
(47:07):
because of our carbon wheels.
But these are not only lighter, but they take up less room.
So you talked about the RockBrothers bag and such.
These take up a third of what aregular inner tube does.
They're light and I got to tellyou they work great of what a
(47:27):
regular inner tube does.
They're light, and I got totell you they work great.
And for $21.99, you get two ofthem.
Another stocking stuffer forthe cyclist in your life.
So, all kidding aside, I jokedmostly about the DeBrim, but
still be a good present.
But yes, I wanted to end ourChristmas wish list with road
(47:49):
adventures, of cycling, men, ofleisure, with the tubes here.
Speaker 3 (47:55):
I love it.
I love it.
Well, I think you know we didstuff to cover all sorts of
budgets, you know, from homedecor, candles and coasters to,
I mean, tubes and tools and abottle of whiskey and everything
.
So, a little something foreverybody.
(48:15):
I will work on getting thoseput up on our website so that
people can see them and see theinformation that we just
provided.
Speaker 2 (48:24):
That's perfect.
I love it.
Happy holidays.
Speaker 4 (48:28):
Happy holidays.
Well, I'm going to miss mysound effects, but you know,
perfect, I love it.
Happy holidays, happy holidays.
Speaker 2 (48:29):
Well, I'm going to
miss my sound effects, but you
know what I'm not, but that'sokay.
Where's that beeping buttonhere?
Yeah, exactly, alright.
So we have teased an episode orteased a segment of Encounters
with have, and I have one andI'd like to read it.
(48:55):
So, uh, a family member, a goodfriend and family member,
cousin named mark uh, gave us astory and I wanted to read it
before you.
Speaker 3 (49:06):
You do that, can you
get rid of Santa?
He's driving me insane, man.
Okay, his dancing is literallydriving me insane, thank you, oh
sorry, All right, Fine, finefine.
Mark says Where's that sound?
Speaker 2 (49:27):
effect?
Where's my sound effect?
No, fine, fine.
Mark says You're killing me,man.
Where's that sound effect?
Where's my sound effect?
No, mark said he was goingdownhill on a bicycle.
He was in the city street andhe had zero brakes because his
cable had ripped.
He was heading towards anintersection with a stop sign
and you can't adhere to twovehicles, one going north and
(49:48):
one going south, but you'rebombing downhill east.
I knew the vehicle going northwas going to pull out and did.
And in my mind I decided whereshould I collide?
Into the vehicle?
Into the front of the vehicle, the rear, the front end, the
rear or the driver's door?
I steered the front end andflew through the air and,
(50:10):
somersaulting at least 25 feet,I fell on my bum and my head
jolted backwards, but I waslucky.
I still had a bunch ofdreadlocks Embarrassed.
I quickly gathered my bike witha bent fork and started away.
The woman I hit chased me downabout two blocks.
She wanted to give me a checkto cover the damages for my bike
(50:32):
.
She said what's your name?
I said I T-boned you.
I didn't take any of her moneyand later on I met a man who saw
me hit the woman and said.
I somersaulted through the airlike some kind of movie or
trapeze artist, just thought Iwould share a story.
So there's a story where hecould have taken the money, but
(50:52):
he said no, thank you, he's theone who caused the damage.
Speaker 3 (50:58):
So well.
Too bad somebody didn't havetheir cameras out.
That would have been a goodYouTube video.
Summer assaulting through theair.
Speaker 2 (51:05):
Yeah, that's right,
just a good old boys, exactly.
Oh man, I should have known thesound effect.
Speaker 3 (51:11):
Yeah, we're good on
sound effects.
Speaker 2 (51:13):
Oh man, you and I,
sir, we don't want to say the
exact dates, but you and I, inJanuary, are heading to Orlando.
Speaker 3 (51:28):
If anyone's never
seen the Book of.
Speaker 2 (51:30):
Mormon, so please go
see it.
And we thought that if somebodywas interested in meeting up
with us, I would say the thirdweek of January, ish, reach out
to us.
And we're going to be in theOrlando area.
We'd love to either organize ameetup or get together or do
(51:51):
something.
We can find time.
So write us in one of themultiple ways that you can write
us and we would give you somebetter dates where it's just not
advertised exactly.
But you realize, we advertisethe dates when we go on rides
yeah, I know it's okay, butusually I record after that and
(52:12):
I don't advertise.
Hey, I'm gonna be gone fromjune 8th through the 10th, but
we tell them we're going to ridebrag or whatever.
That's true and they can look upwhat the dates are yeah, I'm
just saying you know, okay, letme get out my delta app, uh, but
(52:33):
that's all I got.
I mean, I know we're gonna endit with a bookend with listener
spotlight.
Um, we talked about the jerseystore.
Uh, we have a swag store.
So if you're looking for a giftlike that, I also wanted to
know did you notice mymicrophone?
Speaker 3 (52:51):
uh, cover a little
bit you changed it from blue to
red and mine is red as well.
Uh, for the holidays, I'massuming the holidays.
Speaker 2 (53:00):
Yeah, yeah, I
originally bought it.
I want to be truthful.
Last year I bought it and Ikind of kind of kept it from you
.
It was so close that the kansascity chief chiefs and the
detroit lions were were maybegonna head to the super bowl.
And then during that time Ipicked it up and I said, oh,
maybe I'll just surprise him onenight.
(53:22):
Yeah, that didn't work out, didn't go that way, did it?
And then the beginning of thisfootball season, nebraska was
kicking some and taking names.
Speaker 3 (53:33):
Yeah, not anymore.
Speaker 2 (53:34):
Yeah, and that was
short-lived.
They can't win a game to savetheir life.
Speaker 3 (53:38):
We're never going to
get bowl eligible.
Speaker 2 (53:39):
The way we're going,
but that's okay.
But I figured, in honor of theChristmas wish list, I would
give you not only a dancingSanta, I would also give you a
red microphone.
Speaker 3 (53:54):
All right.
Well, thank you, sir.
I like the red microphone.
I think it's very festive.
Speaker 2 (54:01):
Well, in that case,
ladies and gentlemen, it is
everyone's favorite time.
It's listener spotlight.
It's.
Speaker 3 (54:09):
Listener Spotlight.
All right, got a good one, gota real good one.
Here's the clues the land wherethe town is located was
purchased by the British fromthe native inhabitants of the
area.
The city annually celebratesits founder, and that person was
(54:32):
not a US citizen.
This town was not incorporateduntil the early 1900s.
The town is named for a nearbygeological feature, and here you
(54:53):
go.
In this town, you need to watchwhere you park, because if you
don't, you might end up askingwhat's up.
Did you get that?
In this town, you need to watchwhere you park.
If you don't, you might end upasking what's up.
Here's what I'm going to do,matt.
(55:20):
I heard your, your, yourconcerns that, uh, these are a
little difficult, and I wouldagree, um, can't make them too
easy, because then everybodygets them.
What I'm going to do, though,is, I think, several days after
this episode has come out, Iwill go online to our Facebook
page both Facebook pages, boththe men's and the women's and I
(55:40):
will give an additional cluethat will help narrow down or
help you identify this community.
So this is your initial ones.
I will give you an additionalone after the episode comes out,
to help you maybe narrow downyour search parameters.
(56:02):
How about that?
Speaker 2 (56:05):
Well, he can't reply,
but he says great no, just
kidding, I was talking to you.
Says great, no, just kidding, Iwas talking to you.
