Speaker 1 (00:19):
Well, it's time for
Road Adventures with Cycling Men
of Leisure, the podcast forcyclists who understand that
riding is not just about gettingto the destination, but the
experience along the way.
Now here are the originalCycling Men of Leisure Adam and
Michael.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Welcome to Road
Adventures with Cycling Men of
Leisure.
I'm Adam and across from medigitally with Zoom is my friend
Michael and my co-host.
Good day, how are you Doing?
Pretty good, pretty good, it'sbeen a while.
It has been a while.
Glad to be back.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
You've been out
traveling the countryside,
having a good time, while therest of us have been slaving
away.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
You know that could
be good and bad.
I mean, in a prior show I hadmade a comment that I was going
to go see Mickey and Minnie andhow my other house had mice, but
I really didn't get into itbecause I really didn't want to
advertise on a podcast that Iwas going to be away from my
house for many weeks.
So the truth of the matter wasis we did go down to Florida and
(01:20):
bounce back and forth between afew theme parks.
My wife and I loved to beactive on vacation, so we walk
around a bunch and thenliterally landed on a Saturday.
It was a time change and thatnext morning at 5.30 in the
morning, my coworker picked meup and we went to a convention
in Houston.
I was on the ground less thanlike 10 hours from I was in the
(01:43):
airport and the next morning, right back at the airport, and I
gained a lot of respect forpeople who do that for a living,
because I kept shaking my head, thinking what am I doing?
So, but glad to be back, goodto be here with you, it's been a
while.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
So Well, good, well,
I'm glad your secretary there
scheduled your vacation so closeto your business trip.
Oh wait, that was you that didit to yourself, never mind To be
told.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
I had scheduled the
vacation first and then this
opportunity came up and I said, yeah, it'd be no big deal, I'll
come back, I'll change luggageand I'm in the afternoon in my
house like punching the wallgoing.
Oh my gosh, what am I doing?
So I'm idea, I'm idea.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
I'm idea.
Yeah, oh well, you made it, gotto hang out in warm places, and
you know.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
Oh yes, mrs.
Mrs Baransky definitely didn'thave any heartfelt feelings for
me.
On the second thing, when Iwent to Houston it was like 85
degrees and in Michigan we hadhad some pretty chilly weather.
So yeah, the sympathy or loveloss was was 0.0.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
So it doesn't help
when you're like oh hey, it's
beautiful, sunny, 80 degreeshere, how you doing.
You know, when you start offyour conversations like that
with your wife, that is never agood idea when you know it's not
80 degrees where they're at.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Now, you've known me
long enough that this is what I
say.
Hun, I know what you're saying, but I'm stuck in this hotel
room.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
What's that sound?
That sounds like somebodyswinging a golf club.
Huh.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
Like when you and I
were in Tampa earlier this year,
we were sitting outside havinga bourbon in the palm trees and
she's like well, what's theweather like?
I'm like oh babe, it's prettychilly.
Yeah well, yeah, life is rough.
Unfortunately, she's a lot moreintelligent than that.
She was smart enough to sayyou're liar.
(03:38):
But anyways, I digress.
I have an official announcement.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
Oh boy, I'm being
replaced, aren't I?
Speaker 2 (03:52):
No, because the CEO
of chat GBT has resigned, so
you're still fine.
So when they get a new one andthey spinning back up, then I'm
just kidding.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
Okay, good.
Hey, let's hear what's your bigannouncement.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
I am proud to tell
you that I officially registered
for Big Bragg 2024 and Iofficially spun everything back
up, so we will have a team inGeorgia and I'm excited about
that.
Well, last year we had a verysuccessful number of team.
(04:28):
We had men and women of leisure, we had two different jerseys
and we are doing it again.
Speaker 3 (04:35):
So what you're
telling me is I'm going back to
Georgia.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
You are I don't know
where.
Speaker 3 (04:40):
Yet I'll tell the
wife Going back to Georgia in
June.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
I don't know where.
Yet I mean Big Bragg makestheir announcement at the
midnight on New Year's Eve.
If you're like me, who lastyear was so lame, I'm not.
Well, I know you guys didsomething cool and I was jealous
, but at that time my wife wasstill working midnight at the
hospital as a nurse.
Last year I sat in my livingroom hitting refresh, refresh,
(05:10):
refresh and watched where wewere going and then, of course,
when crazy, getting hotelresults.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
You immediately text
me after you found out.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
I did and I actually
told you which flight to buy and
everything I did.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
It's like this is
where we're going by this flight
, yeah, which I appreciate, letme tell you I really do.
So we're going back to Georgia.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
We are going to have
our team, yes, please.
So we are looking for teammembers, both past and new, feel
free.
If you go on there and when youregister, there will be a
little box that say what teamare you affiliated with, or
whatever, and if you click onthat, even right now, there'll
be a little drop down menu andone of like the six teams
(05:55):
currently in there is cyclingmen and women of leisure.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
That is correct Now.
The only difference is there'sbeen a few additions today.
I kind of played around on theside a little bit and there's
like nine, I think now.
But you can add your own.
But why do that?
I mean we're alreadyestablished.
We've got some great teammembers.
I really would like thechallenge and send out a send
(06:20):
out a challenge for those whojoined us last year to please,
please, please join us again.
It was really fun to seeeverybody on the road every day.
And if you haven't done BigBragg and you're looking for a
larger ride but you're said youknow Bragg, bragg's too.
Big Bragg is definitely more ofan intimate setting where you
can actually see the same peopleevery day.
(06:40):
And if you said you know breakstops and you know the supported
break stops are nice and it'snot so big that you you can
actually hang out with the same.
If you don't ride at the samespace as somebody and they ride
a little bit faster, you'll seethem that night.
So definitely more of anintimate setting, highly
recommend.
And we'll be talking about thatin a few episodes from now, but
(07:04):
just wanted to make thatannouncement.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
Yeah, no, that's cool
and also go ahead If they sign
up for the team and we get atleast 10 people, which I feel
very confident we will get atleast 10.
We all get jerseys yes, we allget to.
They design a special jerseyfor the team, so last year we
had 25.
I believe we were the biggestteam there, so we would like to
(07:27):
get even more this year.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
So we would, we would
, and just to be clear on that.
I want to add one thing to whatyou said They'll give us
jerseys.
Now, I felt bad last yearbecause what happened was is the
variety of cycling men, ofleisure and what it is and what
we've started.
And once we people meet us andthey're like these guys are I'm
(07:50):
not trying to be conceited, butthis is exactly what happened
they're like, oh, this is great.
And once they understood whatwe stood for and who we are,
they say, oh, can we get one ofthose jerseys?
Can we get one of those jerseys?
I just got to be clear.
That is a brag sales marketingstrategic plan that they put
together in hopes that you willget a team of 10 or more, and
(08:12):
then part of that is as theybuild and provide the jersey,
and then we get to look likeheroes by passing it out to all
the people who sign up ahead oftime.
The bad part about that isafterwards.
If you said, hey, can we getone of those?
I just it's not even mine tooffer you, I mean, short of
taking mine off my back and, trust me, nobody wants to see
(08:33):
that you don't want that.
You know you don't want that.
I just want to be clear on that.
I felt bad last year.
I just wanted to explain anyonewho we picked up a lot of
listeners from from brag lastyear If you're hearing this, you
got to sign up ahead of time toget that jersey.
So cool, Cool.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
All right, well, cool
, I'll do it.
This would be year number threefor us?
I believe yes, and so it shouldbe, should be fun.
So we are going to go back toan old favorite, but I'm sure
there'll be some other ridesthat we'll be doing as well,
which are yet to be determined.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
So I think what I'm
hearing you saying is we're not
doing Iowa.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
I think we can
officially say that we're not
doing Iowa.
I mean we've.
You know last year was a sixthtime for me, we think it was a
fifth time for you We've done itand I think both of us realize
at that point, I think onWednesday, when we were riding
out in the middle of nowhere andyou pointed out it's like I
recognize that rock, this bigdecorative rock.
(09:35):
It was just a big brown rockwith somebody's name on it in
their front yard.
He goes, I think I rememberthat and I was like you don't
remember it and it's like heremembers it because we've been
down that road before.
I think that pretty much saysyou know what it's time for us
to hit some new roads, some newterritories.
Definitely enjoyed, enjoyedIowa Great deal.
But I think it's time for us totry some other new rides, meet
(10:00):
some new people, hit some newroads.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
And I would just like
to add to that is not only do I
agree with what you just said, but for our subscribers and
followers, for us, we know thatthere are shows out there that
are specifically designed tofollow, like Ragnbrye.
The Disco Bike Podcast ispretty much a you know rockies,
(10:26):
ragnbrye.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
Ride the.
Speaker 2 (10:27):
Rock Centric and we
don't want to be.
I mean, yes, we're going backto Bragg and Franklin, the
director, has been wonderful tous.
We're going back to Bragg for afew different reasons.
We're going back becauseGeorgia is just an awesome,
beautiful state to ride through.
There's so much more to see andwe haven't seen more of it, and
there's a lot of our friendsthat are from Georgia and a lot
(10:48):
of people that we've met alongthe way a core value that is
from Georgia, and so that's whywe decided this year that
calendar-wise, that it works.
But we don't want to be theRagnbrye show.
We don't want to be that.
Our goal is to is to.
The whole point of the show iscalled Road Adventures, our
adventures.
You know, we don't.
We want to keep going to thesame thing.
(11:09):
So, anyways, just wanted to getthat out there, just wanted to
get that off.
My back Sounds good.
Cool With saying that.
Let me, can I?
Can I offer a?
Can I offer a change of subject?
Absolutely.
So what I thought we could dois I am sure that you, like me,
(11:32):
are getting inundated withemails about Black Friday and
where to spend your moneybetween now and next Friday.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
Yeah, I'm getting a
few, and I'm getting children,
you know, giving me lists ofthings and you know no one's
asked me what I want Santa tobring me.
But I'm getting lists fromnumerous people within the
family saying, hey, here's mylist.
Speaker 2 (11:59):
So you know, I've
been to your house a few times
and I've watched your childrencome to you like an ATM and
they're like beep, beep, beep, beep, beep.
And then you, you whip out yourwallet and say 20 bucks for the
Cha-ching.
I think it was mums one time.
Speaker 3 (12:12):
Yeah, you were buying
fundraiser, Cha-ching.
I need $10 for the class tripor whatever, cha-ching.
Speaker 2 (12:19):
Yeah, so what I
thought we could talk about is
this show is mostly aboutcycling.
We talk about other things, butwhat about throwing out some
ideas for family members of whatto buy a cyclist for Christmas,
or non-dedominal holiday.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
So basically what
you're saying is a cyclist's
Christmas list to Santa.
Basically is what you'relooking for.
Speaker 2 (12:47):
Yeah, just some.
Just some ideas.
I mean like myself.
Let me give you a couple, letme give you an example.
I mean it's always good whenyou hear someone say something,
you hear an example.
Like myself, I would love a newgolf driver, new golf, oh wait,
this is supposed to be acycling.
Speaker 3 (13:01):
But really you don't
need a new golf driver.
No, I actually don't.
Come on, you don't.
I know.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
Podcasting microphone
.
I mean, oh wait, we're supposedto be talking.
Speaker 3 (13:12):
You got a good one.
Speaker 2 (13:13):
I know we're going to
leave it alone, so no, I
thought.
Cycling items.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
Cycling specific
items.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
Things that you could
say, like if your family said,
hey, what do you want forChristmas?
You could say to your family, let me give you an example.
Okay, please, a good one A bikecomputer.
I would believe that the bikecomputer might just be one of
the soul items that cyclists whoride on a regular basis like to
have but sometimes don't wantto put the money out for.
(13:43):
So what a perfect time to sayto your family hey, why don't
you give you an idea?
The Karoo 2 by Hammerhead, as ofthis as of recording us today,
is on sale for 299 bucks,normally 399.
So it's on sale.
You could say, hey, I reallywant that new Karoo 2.
Now, if you're not into Karooand you're like, forget that, I
(14:05):
want to.
I want to Garmin the 540 slash840 edge 349.
You could say to your family,or if you're still Wahoo and you
which is a phenomenal product,by the way 399 bucks.
So I mean, there's an exampleof a bike computer I just found
(14:25):
a few before recording that youcould offer your family to get
you.
What about you?
Speaker 3 (14:31):
If you need more
information about those bike
computers.
We had an episode yes, a monthago or two, which we actually
broke down and talked a littlebit about cycling computers.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
So Two below this one
.
I stole that from Dateline.
By the way, I was listening toDateline while putting up my
Christmas lights on my housetoday.
It said if you haven't listenedto the last episode, it's the
one right underneath this one.
I thought perfect.
So two below this one, Twobelow this one.
Okay, it's called Tech onWheels a deep dive into cycling,
(15:00):
computers, radars and someother fun stuff, Okay cool.
So check that out.
We broke down the computer soyou could definitely find out
which one to either tell yourfamily member to get you or, if
you are the family member, whichone to get for the cyclist in
your life.
Speaker 3 (15:15):
So your turn, well
you know, I have a tendency to
go for something a little littlemore fun than just a cycling
computer.
How about this?
This is for would be for not me, of course, but for a lot of
people that we know, especiallythe people writing rag brie.
How about the bike bear holder?
(15:38):
Oh, this isn't just this isn'tjust a bike.
This isn't just.
This isn't just for a singlecan.
This is actually a handmadeleather, a holder, that that
hooks to your top bar that willhold a six pack of beer on your
bicycle.
Speaker 2 (15:53):
That would seem like
a perfect gift for someone who
is going to go for on a bikeride.
Speaker 3 (15:58):
Absolutely.
Well, you know it's a six pack.
It's like a clinch hand holder, straight from the frame, comes
in four different colors and acompany named Walnut Studios
produces this.
And you know, I just think itwould be a great idea.
I mean, not on a serious ride, but if I was just, you know,
riding around and I was going toride over you and I lived in
the same town, I'd ride overwith a six pack.
(16:19):
And you know, here we go.
Speaker 2 (16:22):
I have two things on
the beer holder, since you did
the research, where could ourlisteners find that?
To buy that?
Speaker 3 (16:29):
They could simply
look that up Walnut Studios, or
look up Bike Beer Holder, ok,and then it'll come up.
There's a couple of brands thatmake it, but I like this
because this one was like madeout of leather OK.
So I kind of like the lookbecause it kind of had that
vintage look to it.
Yeah, it would hold up as well.
Speaker 2 (16:46):
And the second part
of that would be I think it'd be
more classy to give therecipient of the gift six
bottles of beer or cans of beerinside.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
Yeah, I mean that's.
That's bad luck.
It's a lot like you givesomebody a wallet or purse.
You're supposed to put somemoney in it.
It's just bad luck If you givesomebody a beer holder or
something like that.
You got to put beer in it.
Or it's just bad luck Like youcan't give somebody a whiskey to
canter without having somewhiskey in it, because that
would be bad luck.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
Well, I would agree
with that, that seems.
That's that makes sense to me.
All right, I got another onefor you.
All right, let's hear anotherpiece of electronics, a little
expensive, but that's OK.
This is a bike radar.
For anyone who does not knowwhat that is, a bike radar goes
on the back of your bike, or thefront if you want, and it will
tell you if a car is approachingfrom the rear.
The most most popular one, Ithink, would be the Garmin RTL
(17:39):
515 Varia V-A-R-I-A I don't wantto mispronounce that, I'm not
sure.
Varia, maybe that one does nothave a camera, but that one's
also one forty nine without acamera.
But they do have the RTC 715with the camera, and I like to
say that so your family can seehow you were hit later on.
(18:01):
So I don't know.
Yeah, I know that it shows.
It shows cars going around.
But you know, in Michigan wedon't have license plates in the
front of the cars, unlessthey're, of course, you know,
nostalgic or Narayah, whateveryou know license plate, and so
you're not going to get a platefrom somebody.
Speaker 3 (18:22):
Somebody from you
know who loves the University of
Michigan, just hit me.
That's all I can tell you.
That's right.
Track him down, Mr PoliceOfficer.
Speaker 2 (18:28):
He was stealing a
sign from.
I'm just kidding.
Keep going at him.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
So that joke Move on.
Speaker 2 (18:34):
Anyways, radar.
So see, my mind is thinking forthe family member is to buy
these pieces of electronics.
By the way, on a serious note,I think the radar might just be
one of the most safest thingsthat has been invented for a
bicycle in a long time.
So but anyways, thought that Iwould throw that out there.
All right, your turn.
Speaker 3 (18:52):
Well, going along
that same thing here's here
would be a thing.
If you, if you cycled a lot,you could have the radar, you
could have all this other stuff.
How about a crash sensor?
Wow, do they really have acrash?
Speaker 2 (19:05):
sensor.
I kid you not, I wouldn't makethis stuff up.
I mean I know.
I mean to be fair.
I know Strava has one in yourphone that if you hit the ground
with what you've yet you'rerecording on your phone it'll
send a signal.
But I just mean they actuallyhave an individual item.
Speaker 3 (19:19):
It's a sensor
mechanism that attaches to your
helmet Wow and it connects toyour smartphone and will alert
your contact in case of anaccident.
Speaker 2 (19:31):
I'm so sorry, I can't
help myself.
Just give me a secondUnderstanding.
If it's an actual accident, that's great.
But can you imagine getting afrustrating call, like from a
business?
Like you're on a bike ride, Itold you no, and then your
family is like well, what'sgoing on, are you OK?
Like oh yeah, I was justfrustrated at Jim at work.
Speaker 3 (19:52):
You're like slamming
your hand down.
Yeah, that's a good action.
I've told you a million times,a million times.
It's like accident, accident,accident.
Yes, a company A and G, I A,capital N, capital G, lowercase
I has a crash sensor, so thatmight be, you know, another
(20:14):
mechanism to help you know, letyour family know if there's been
an accident.
Speaker 2 (20:21):
And that's why this
is not a show about computers,
but that's why I switched to thehammerhead, because you can
like the cell phone SIM card toour data card forgive me data
card and it Sends out a ping toyour family.
They can see exactly where youare and if you set up a route,
actually it says where you arein the route, how much time you
have left, what time you thinkyou're gonna finish.
(20:41):
So that was one of the solepurposes of getting that.
So Okay.
So we have a crash sensor, wehave a radar, a computer, we
have a beer leather beer Holderfor the bicycle.
I'm my turn here.
I'm gonna go with some biketools.
While most cyclists probablydon't know how to use a lot of
(21:03):
the tools, they mess up thetrailers.
I'm just kidding.
You just insulted, likeeverybody.
No, I insulted myself, becauseanytime I mess with that stuff,
I have to go to the bike shopbecause I screwed it up.
Speaker 3 (21:15):
So I know you don't
go to the bike shop because the
traffic is too busy and you justlet it squeak or wear or do
whatever it Does.
Speaker 2 (21:21):
So bike is now inside
, it's beautiful, it's clean,
ready to go for the 2024 season.
So, no, okay, fair enough.
So I would recommend some, somebike tools.
To be fair, this answer is sowide open of what what you could
do.
They have like a multi tool set, which let's almost like the
(21:44):
Swiss Army knife of bike tools, where you have so many tools
packed into one.
You could do individual tools.
You know, you can go to yourlocal bike shop and just say,
hey, I'm looking to get somebike tools for my, for my
cyclists, family member orwhatever.
Just maybe an introductory kit.
If they don't have a lot, theycan definitely help you out at a
bike store.
(22:04):
Get, get some of the basicmillimeters that would be on on
most and they, they couldactually ask what kind of bike
you know does your cyclisthusband, wife, family member
have?
And oh, he's got a.
You know he's got a Bianchi, blah, blah and oh, these are the
tools that you would need.
They would definitely help youwith that.
Speaker 3 (22:21):
Yes, now I've got a
fun one here.
This is one that that I really, really, really really would
like to have a folding bicyclehelmet.
Speaker 2 (22:32):
Wow, folding bicycle.
Speaker 3 (22:38):
One of the companies
I found, finned FEND, makes a
folding bicycle helmet.
It folds up to 50% of its size,so it folds down 50% and
Basically I mean it's got an ABSshell, its ultra light PC, I
mean it's a fully certifiedbiking helmet but it folds down.
Speaker 2 (23:01):
Interesting.
But what my brain immediatelygoes to is it MIPS certified?
Is it all that you know?
I'm not sure.
But no, no disrespect to thatcompany whatsoever.
But my first, my first thoughtwould be is is the integrity of
the helmet?
Because, of course, let's behonest.
I mean, look, go back to the80s, no one was wearing helmets.
(23:22):
And then now, if you don't weara helmet, you know everyone's
like oh my gosh, I can't believeyou.
It's like going outside withoutpants on.
So I I choose to wear a helmet.
As everyone knows, I wear notonly a helmet, I wear a de brim
which is on my dad doesn't that?
Speaker 3 (23:35):
it, by the way, does
not help you in a crash, but no,
just saying makes me look cool.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
But on a serious note
, that that would be my concern.
Did you, while doing research, did with there any reviews or it
has had very high reviews.
Speaker 3 (23:59):
Okay, lots of reviews
.
It's really big with likecommuters.
Yeah, I could see who, like youknow, hey, I get you know it
doesn't take up a lot of thespace.
I found it because you know Ialways, when we're going on
these rides and stuff, neverhave room for my helmet in my
bag.
So I'm always have it in mybackpack when I'm, you know,
with me, directly with me.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
So We'll see.
And the first year we weredoing brag, you had your
backpack and I I look and I sawon the back of your backpack.
I'm like, is that your bikehelmet?
I mean, did you wear that onthe plane?
Or?
And you said, no, I mean, youknow, with luggage and trying to
get everything there, that youjust had to strap it on to the
(24:42):
back of your backpack.
So plus.
Speaker 3 (24:45):
There's another
upside to that.
If God forbid, you know theygive you that announcement.
Speaker 2 (24:51):
Assume the ladies and
gentlemen, this flight is about
to turn into a cruise.
Speaker 3 (24:56):
So I'm gonna grab my
helmet, strap it on, and then
I'm assuming the position to seeI'm protecting my head.
So my favorite only survivorwas a cyclist who was wearing a
cycling helmet.
Speaker 2 (25:08):
Yeah, my favorite.
When I was a kid, you know, they would say ladies and
gentlemen, if this flight turnsinto a cruise, don't you worry,
your seat turns into afloatation device.
And I remember looking at mymom going what now I was, you
know, eight, nine, yeah, 10years old.
My mom's like honey.
They just have to say thatstuff.
Speaker 3 (25:25):
So Well, my seat's
bolted to the plane and the
plane sinks.
Uh yeah, let's not start.
Speaker 2 (25:34):
Anyways, uh, my turn.
I'm going with a de brim.
Speaker 3 (25:39):
Oh, come on.
Speaker 2 (25:40):
It's, it's.
It is a good, good cycling gift.
Speaker 3 (25:44):
I am not asking Santa
for a de brim.
I mean right there, no, ain'tgonna happen.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
but that's okay, I'm
just saying I know that if you
are concerned about sunprotection and you want to look
cool as a fool, then you needyourself as a de brim.
So Wow, it's yeah, I just wouldlike to say it is my uh.
Uh, it's your signature.
(26:09):
Look, it is my signature.
Look, yeah, but I'd like tothink it's my charming
personality.
But I think most peoplerecognize I know him from his
hats.
Speaker 3 (26:21):
Yeah, it's the hat.
Okay, well, there are peopleout there.
Speaker 2 (26:25):
I'm sure we'd love to
have the de brim.
Don't stop now.
Go out in order before it's andbefore it sells out.
Before they sell out.
Speaker 3 (26:32):
Yes, um, um.
Next thing on my list, or mysuggestion list, I should say
how about an e-bike conversionkit?
How about take your regularbicycle and turn it into an
e-bike?
Speaker 2 (26:45):
Can I buy that
secretly and not let anyone know
?
Speaker 3 (26:48):
Oh sure, Absolutely.
I won't tell anybody.
Speaker 2 (26:52):
OK, that's cool.
How does that work?
Speaker 3 (26:56):
Well, basically you
replace your rear.
We'd have to have rear discbrakes, but you replace your
rear disc brake with this unit.
It's probably I don't know 12,16 inches long and this unit
hooks on there and will produceup to 250.
What motor?
(27:16):
Ok, and the thing is is you canput it to take it on and take
it off relatively easily.
So if you were like leavingyour bike someplace, you could
take it off.
So you know, somebody didn'tdecide they wanted an e-bike,
but it's kind of cool.
Well, I mean, we could haveused it last year in Georgia in
(27:37):
the mountains, you know, slapthat puppy on there and then
throw it in a backpack and noone had ever known.
Speaker 2 (27:42):
I tell you what that
was.
No joke on the first day.
Yeah, I would, actually, Iwould have killed for one that
day.
Ok, so an electronic e-bikeconversion kit for your everyday
bicycle.
Clip it on, clip it off, boom, kind of simple one here.
But I just thought, like a giftshop to your, to your local
(28:03):
bike shop, I mean, I get a giftcard, gift card to your local
bike shop, stocking stuff orsomething kind of simple.
Speaker 3 (28:12):
Ok, I know it doesn't
go into long wind, but OK, I'm
going to go for something elsethat would be very practical,
that I think one of these daysyou and I should try the yo
audio intercom headset.
Speaker 2 (28:29):
We've seen this.
Ok, ok, that's what Audrey andI had.
Speaker 3 (28:32):
Well, I don't know if
it's exactly what they had, but
we've seen things very similarto this.
Some of them now they'reactually integrating it into the
helmet itself, but this isactually a separate like
earpiece thing that you hookright there.
You've got it connected tosomebody else and as you're
going you're able to chit, chatand that kind of stuff with with
them.
Speaker 2 (28:53):
OK, actually I did
see a couple at Raghbri.
They were kind of weird.
As they were talking I couldhear them echoing back and forth
.
No disrespect to the product, Ijust meant I could tell that
they were both saying it and asthey were both past me I could
hear them there.
One would talk and I would hearthe speaker on the other helmet
.
It was kind of cool.
So that would be kind of neatbecause I can, when someone
(29:17):
passes me on an e-bike up a hill, I can go look at this.
No, but I mean it would be veryconvenient because there's
times where you know you'll getahead of me or I'll get ahead of
you and we'll go up a ways orwhatever.
Speaker 3 (29:26):
Or there's just times
when I know I've been behind
you and my chain is came off orwhatever, and I have to shout at
you.
This way it could just be hey,you know, pull off at the next
thing, my chain's off.
You know that kind of thing.
So I think it'd be kind of coolIf we actually get across the
road.
We could actually get acrossthe road.
Speaker 2 (29:44):
You know that kind of
thing, so I think it'd be kind
of cool if we actually getacross a state without your
chain coming off, I would besurprised.
It usually happens one time, and one time only, but it's
happened every time so far.
So if it doesn't happen, Imight try home and be
disappointed.
Speaker 3 (30:00):
I figured out what I
was doing that if I don't do
that it'll solve the problem.
So I might be might bedisappointing you and Georgia.
We'll see.
Okay, yet to be determined Allright you got anything else on
your list there.
Speaker 2 (30:16):
I do and I want to be
transparent that this came from
our good friend Joe, and hegave some recommendations.
I'm going to rattle a few offhere.
He does a lot of winter riding.
I am not as much of a winterrider as him, but I thought that
I would.
I would throw a few of theseout there.
(30:37):
Which is for the winter riders?
Yeah, handlebar warm muffs, which these are like neoprene
that goes on the handlebars Um,warm shoe covers, um, gloves of
all types, face masks, helmetcover, no fog goggles, um, and
(30:59):
oh, insulated rain jacket.
So, uh, he, he was able toprovide those for us and, like I
, reached out to him and saidhey, we're going to do a show.
Do you have any recommendations?
So can you guess where his mindis at?
Speaker 3 (31:11):
Yeah, so we know what
I, I can solve all of those
really easy.
Speaker 2 (31:17):
Put your bike away
for the winter, just stay in my
living room during the wintertime.
Speaker 3 (31:22):
Don't need any of
those.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
Santa.
One thing that I will say thatI I I actually do tell my family
, and I have before doing theshow was water bottles.
You know, uh, water bottles canbe great.
You can use them year afteryear, but every now and then I
do like to change those out some.
Speaker 3 (31:39):
Well, they, you know,
the plastic does break down.
Yep, Um, if you don't properlyclean them out, I mean, you can
get lots of moldy stuff in thereand things that I mean, you
know, bacteria that you don'teven see.
So, um, you know, switchingthose out every now and then is
a good thing.
Speaker 2 (31:57):
Speaking of that,
would you like me to purchase
one for you for Christmas, because you've got that one
where the where the wholemouthpiece comes off.
Speaker 3 (32:05):
Oh, I got rid of that
one.
Speaker 2 (32:07):
Oh, you did.
Okay yeah, okay yeah.
Speaker 3 (32:09):
That one um resolved
itself.
So, um, yeah, didn't have roomto pack it home, huh.
Uh, actually, if I remembercorrectly, it didn't make it
across Iowa.
Okay, Cause I got tired, causeI would like you know popping
them out to pull it off, andlike the whole whole top little
section would come off with itevery time, and I was just like
forget this, so it ended up in ain a trash can and storm lake
(32:31):
or somewhere.
Speaker 2 (32:34):
Uh, selfish plug.
I think that if you're tryingto help a cyclist out, there is
a link on our podcast where youcan support the show and you
could do that in honor ofsomebody.
So you could do monthly forthree bucks or something like
that and you could help out.
Uh, supplement of leisure, uh,podcast, uh and uh we could.
(32:54):
We can continue the shenanigans, so that's right, yeah, and we
will.
Speaker 3 (32:59):
So I have one more.
Okay, and this would be a funone, Um, that anybody could
really.
You know whether you're amountain biker or road road
cyclist or whatever.
How about a custom bobblehead,a bicycle racing custom
bobblehead?
(33:19):
And basically what you do isyou send them there your picture
and they make a bobblehead thatlooks just like you, like on a
bicycle.
Speaker 2 (33:28):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (33:29):
Yeah, can you imagine
us getting a couple of those
and like putting them like thewindshield of our vehicle when
we're going to like a thing andwe're driving along and you know
, both of our bobbleheads arejust kind of bobble in there as
we're going down the road?
So and that and that actuallycame from a from a website
Bobblehead craft creates cyclingspecific ones.
Speaker 2 (33:52):
That's cool, that's
cool.
I will leave you with one morethat I that I am passionate
about and I believe that a nice, bright front light, whether
it's daytime or nighttime Ithink.
Many different brands Icouldn't even begin where to
begin, but I mean you couldobviously, you know, go local
(34:15):
bike shop.
That could help you out.
Now, we keep saying local bikeshop and I am aware that, due to
shortage and supply and demand, sometimes your local bike shop
doesn't have some stuff.
Don't like to do this, butplease remember that on Amazon
you can.
You can create a list and youcan actually send the list to
your family member if you'retrying to look at something as
(34:36):
well.
But I do recommend going toyour local bike shop so
otherwise there won't be a localbike shop.
Speaker 3 (34:42):
So absolutely support
the local ones, because those
local bike shops, I mean a lotof times there they have, you
know, weekly cycling groups.
You know that they'resupporting.
They're supporting local clubs.
You know they just do a lot ofstuff for the cycle local
cycling community that you'renot going to get if you're
supporting Amazon or somethinglike that.
Speaker 2 (35:03):
So definitely, and if
you're looking for a cheap gift
for somebody like zero dollarsand zero cents, send them the
link in a card of cycling mentalleisure podcast.
Speaker 3 (35:16):
There you go.
Yeah, and it's.
Hey, it's the gift that keepson giving.
Speaker 2 (35:22):
Clark, that's pretty
nice, was that?
Speaker 3 (35:26):
the Jello of the
Month Club, or something like
that, you're lucky, or somethinglike that.
That's the gift that keeps ongiving.
Speaker 2 (35:36):
Well, we, I remember
we did mark the clean box for
this show, but that is the best.
We watch that every year and Ican't help it.
And every year it just getsfunnier and funnier.
Speaker 3 (35:49):
So Cousin Eddie, yeah
, cousin Eddie, yeah.
Well, anything else you got onyour list, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (35:58):
Okay, well, I just.
Speaker 3 (36:00):
I think we've got a
pretty good list there of gift
items.
If you're trying to find forcyclist or Santa, if you're
listening, get some ideas therefor the cycle enthusiast Wow.
Speaker 2 (36:16):
I gave my best shot.
Speaker 3 (36:17):
I did want to want to
jump to another thing, and I
know we didn't talk about thisbefore, but I thought it might
be nice to bring up Our lastepisode.
Can you talk to us a little bitabout what that was?
As far as the concept?
Speaker 2 (36:33):
Yeah, so the we had
Sarah on who is doing a ride
bike and build where she isgoing to build houses, I guess,
with work with habitathumanities and and start to
build houses while also doing aride on a pretty big ride.
Speaker 3 (36:56):
Right, and she was a
female, and so we started doing
a special around that and that'swhat I'd like you to address.
Speaker 2 (37:04):
I know that's good,
so the officially started the
cycling women of leisure seriesof shows and and we had Sarah on
.
So real quick, if you haven'theard before, this all started
in Georgia where we had cyclingmen of leisure, where a guy came
up to us and said you guys areliving the lifestyle leisure.
(37:26):
And we're like, yes, we are.
And then kind of fizzled out.
And then we went to Iowa thatyear and in the middle of Iowa,
where the tractor was spinningthe couch around as they were
driving around, we, weofficially made it official and
and got the website and got theFacebook and became cycling men
of leisure.
For essence of time, fastforward.
(37:48):
I called Michael and said whatdo you think about doing a
podcast?
As the show started to grow, westarted to get these comments
of you know being shown as pigsand and you know, not
appreciating women as well, which was funny because we're
both married to women and haveour own separate families, we
definitely appreciate them andso.
(38:09):
So, anyways, we created cyclingwomen of leisure.
Last year at Bragg we were ableto do two different jerseys and
we started the show talkingabout the team.
So we were able to do cyclingmen of leisure and I'm proud to
tell you we had cycling women ofleisure and then we started the
cycling women of leisureFacebook page and that group and
it's just taken off likegangbusters.
So last last show we put out weofficially started the cycling
(38:34):
women of leisure series.
There you go, there's yourupdate.
Sorry, I didn't know whereyou're going with that.
Speaker 3 (38:38):
No, that's okay.
Like I said, I just kind of hityou with it, but I thought it's
something that we should getout there and so periodically
we're going to continue to addto that that series by bringing
you know women who are incycling, girls who are in
cycling, different aspects of it.
Our goal is to try to get moreinterviews with them on the show
and kind of, you know, build upthat as as being a kind of a
(39:03):
every so often featured segment.
So I think that's awesome idea.
Speaker 2 (39:09):
No, I'm glad to do
that, and I saw that a lot of
people who, when I posted it ondifferent social media sites,
they they were definitelypositive, positive likes and
comments.
So love that.
Speaking of social media, don'tforget you can follow us on
Instagram and Facebook, and wehave multiple pages.
(39:30):
So if you're a lady and youdon't want to support the men
page, we have a ladies page andI'll tell you that the ladies
Facebook page has more likesthan the men page.
So there you go.
So there's yeah, so definitelyyou could check us out there,
but other than that, I would.
I would, on a personal note, love to wish you and your family
(39:51):
a happy Thanksgiving.
I know this is going to comeout a couple days after
Thanksgiving, but it's stillwant to wish you and your family
a happy Thanksgiving into youand your family as well your
parents and all that.
Speaker 3 (40:01):
I hope you guys have
a wonderful Thanksgiving.
One thing, one final thing I dowant to bring up is this is the
week of our one yearanniversary for this podcast.
Woo hoo.
Speaker 2 (40:15):
That's right.
Happy birthday to the podcast.
Speaker 3 (40:17):
To us, to us.
Speaker 2 (40:18):
There you go.
Speaker 3 (40:20):
So as of this week,
Thanksgiving week, we will have
been doing this podcast for onefull year.
Speaker 2 (40:27):
Can you believe it.
I can't.
I didn't ask you this before, but we said that we would do a
honest process of whether we'regoing to continue the show or
not.
I think it's fair to say we'regoing to continue.
Speaker 3 (40:42):
Yes, when we
originally started it was like,
you know, the year was kind oflike let's give it a year, let's
see how it goes.
I mean, statistically, mostpodcasts, you know, go three,
four, six months down the roadand then they kind of think, ah,
you know what, this isn'tworking.
I've got to say this in thisfirst year has far surpassed
anything that I had everimagined.
I really, you know, I figuredwe'll be doing this and like 12
(41:05):
people will be listening to usfrom you know weird places.
It's really cold up here inAlaska.
We've got nothing better to dothan listen to these two.
You know goofballs talk aboutcycling and all that, but it has
far surpassed that.
So I definitely, as long asyou're willing, definitely want
to continue growing this andcontinue to do this, but it's
(41:30):
been a fun adventure for thefirst year.
Speaker 2 (41:32):
I absolutely, and
just for some context I just
looked as you were talking weofficially have 7,150 downloads,
so much, much higher than youand I had ever imagined, and so,
yes, I would love to continueand we'll try it again.
(41:53):
Let's go for it again.
Speaker 3 (41:55):
So Absolutely so I
think it's great and I honestly,
even though we kind of said, you know, let's see what it is
in after a year, I figured afterlike seven months, you know you
and I'd be like, yeah, this isfine.
But yeah, but no, we're goingstrong and keep getting stronger
and, statistically speaking, wetend to be in the top at least
(42:17):
25% of podcasts out there.
Yeah, so I think that's prettygood.
Speaker 2 (42:22):
Yeah, we both found a
report.
If you're ever curious, you canlook it up yourself.
But we found this report of,like how many downloads you have
per week and where you are.
I mean, everyone probably justthinks about like the date lines
and the Joe Rogans and all ofthese shows, but that's exactly
what they are.
They're shows where you knowthey get millions of downloads.
(42:43):
And then, if you take theoutliers out, when you look at
the rest of the podcasts, wewere running the top 25%.
We were like wow, it's crazy.
We just never think we'd bethere.
So we appreciate all of you.
Thanks for listening.
If you're listening today andyou're inspired by this, please
share with somebody and say, hey, you know, even if you're not
in a cycling, these guys pokefun at each other Just before
(43:03):
the show, michael's given me ahard time about something.
So we we're good friends andcare a lot about each other and
love doing this.
So thank you so much forlistening.
So with that I will say whatwasn't today a good day for in
Michigan.
Speaker 3 (43:22):
Ha ha.
It was a good day for a bikeride somewhere, but not Michigan
.
Speaker 2 (43:28):
There, that's right,
so cool.
Thank you, guys, have a goodnight.
Thank you.
