But you know, yeah, oh, do Ineed a pair of scissors in my
hand.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
No, oh, okay.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
I figured I went all in with some sound effects and
the listeners are always putthrough each You're put through
something.
All right, yeah, for my soundeffects.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
The listeners are always put through?

Speaker 3 (02:47):
uh, put through something.
All right, yeah, for my soundeffects, but we've got, we've
put together a special Halloweenepisode I'm pretty excited
about it.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
Yeah, me too, me too, me too, I got.
Uh, here we got a scary piano, that's me playing the piano.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
One other thing I before we go.
One other thing I think you'dappreciate is I was actually at
the liquor store.
The other day Okay.
And I found a special bottle ofbourbon here that I'm going to
be celebrating my Halloween with.
And it is called Wow, moonlightMayhem, moonlight Mayhem, a
saga of werewolves and bourbon, and it's from uh film land

(03:30):
spirits.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
So that's pretty cool I thought.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
You know, in honor of the halloween spirit, I thought
that would be very appropriate.
Now I don't know if it's anygood, but yeah that's okay I
appreciate you.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
That's a good prop we're gonna're going to try it
for the.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
Halloween season here .
I love it.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
Well, all right, so we've got a couple of
Halloween-themed items for theshow, but I think, to start off,
we have fan talk, oh so havefan talk.

Speaker 3 (04:10):
Oh so okay, yeah, we've been getting a lot of fan
mail and and all sorts of stuff.
So, uh, what do?

Speaker 2 (04:12):
you got there for us, let's uh, I've got a few things
and I'm I'm pretty excited.
So first of all, um, we have areoccurring um item for the show
called listener spotlight.
We have a guest.
So I'm not going to do that yet, so I'm going to kind of move
around just a little bit.
Um, but our friend mattrobinson wrote us, um, and he

(04:33):
has a suggestion for the show.
Every time we end the show, wehave a what is in the business
called dynamic content.
If you listen to the show allthe way to the end, first of all
, thank you, um.
And then you get a little thingwhere, where you, you come on
currently and say, hey, adam, what's the favorite thing you
like about the show?
And and I say, when peoplewrite us, and that's called

(04:55):
dynamic content, that justreplays every time, but it's
sincere, we love when peoplewrite us and take our time, and
so, um, we we did have gottenmultiple people to write us, and
then in that we say, hey, ifthere's something you want to
hear or any kind of suggestions,um, and, and there has been a
suggestion, and I'm I'm happy tosay that our friend Matt

(05:18):
Robinson uh wrote us, and when Idid he?
Uh, I gotta, I gotta get all mystuff ready here.
And when he did, I got to getall my stuff ready here.
But he said that what he wouldlove to see is a regular segment
called Encounters with Cars.
So I was trying to think ofwhat he meant and I didn't know

(05:41):
if it was like negative, ofcourse, because cyclists don't
like cars, cars don't likecyclists.
But then he provided a reallycool story.

Speaker 3 (05:50):
Oh really.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
Yeah, and I thought if you would be willing, let me
read the story.

Speaker 3 (05:55):
So is this going to be Halloween?
Real gory you know laying thereleg half ripped off, got hit by
a car.
Well, I would say in that case, you'd be disappointed, because
it's actually a pretty coolstory.
So, all right, well, give us astory.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
All right, here we go this is from matt robinson and
it's our very first encounter.
Oh sorry, hold on, matt, I keptmy word.
Encounters with cars.
Nice, it was a warm sunny dayand I was on my first
bikepacking trip in southernMinnesota.
Part of the pay path wasblocked by trees and I had to

(06:33):
take a road for about five miles.
That would be busy and with ashoulder about the width of a
sandwich.
No big deal.
I thought I've got this.
I'm aerodynamic, withpanniersiers and a trunk bag,
even a chair.
Well, not exactly aerodynamic, but confidence is key, right,
absolutely For sure.

(06:54):
As I pedaled along cars whizzedby me like I was a stationary
exhibit in a vehicular museum, Ihugged the white line with
precision of a tightrope walker, praying that the wind gusts
from passing trucks wouldn'tsend me into the weeds.
With every approaching vehicle,I clenched my handlebars like
they were the last two straws ina smoothie.

(07:14):
Just when I thought thingscouldn't get more intense, I
heard a horn Like uh, exactly,uh, no, not the angry kind, yes,
that one.
Like a friendly little toottoot.
I glanced back and, to mysurprise, there was an older

(07:35):
gentleman in a pickup truckcreeping along behind me with
his hazard lights flashing.
He gave me a smile and a thumbsup through his window.
You keep going, kid, I've gotyour back.
He yelled over the noise oftraffic.
My immediate thought was did hejust call me a kid?
I'm 52.
But then there was no time forthat.

(07:56):
This man was clearly on amission to protect me from what
seemed like the entirety of thecountry rush hour traffic.
At first I felt a littleridiculous A whole truck, hazard
lights flashing like there wassome kind of slow moving parade.
Cars behind him began to stackup, but no one dared to honk.

(08:17):
How could they, with thisgallant protector riding behind
me like my personal trafficbuffer, with him keeping the
traffic at bay?
I found myself relaxing alittle, almost enjoying the ride
.
I even considered waving to theonlookers, but I figured that
might be pushing it.
After a few minutes I saw myturn back onto the trail up

(08:41):
ahead.
I waved greatly to my guardianangel as I veered off the road.
He gave me one last thumbs up,then drove off like some kind of
elderly superhero in a pickuptruck.
That day I learned two thingsFirst, sometimes a busy road
isn't the enemy if you've gotthe right people behind you.
And second, never underestimatethe power of flashers and a

(09:04):
good Samaritan.
And that, sir, was our veryfirst episode of Encounters with
Cars.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
Number one that is an incredible story.
Yes, thank you for sharing.
I think it's fantastic.
Number two it shows that youknow what not everybody out
there driving past you is.
You know Not everybody outthere driving past you is.
You know, a jack wagon, true, and I think he needs to get into
book writing because he's verydescriptive and has a good flow
and stuff like that.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
Yeah, if he needs an editor.

Speaker 3 (09:35):
I'll be happy to help him out.

Speaker 2 (09:37):
Me too.
I've got AI ChatGBT, and I'mjust kidding.
No, I actually reallyappreciate him writing it.
Um, he did say some funnythings.
I'll tell you after the um,after the listener spotlight
guest.
So he's, he's uh, he's got theguess, um, but you had a
question for him about sodasprings, our last listener

(09:59):
spotlight yeah, he guessed sodasprings and it was not soda.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
But I would be interested if he could key us in
on why he thought it was SodaSprings.
I love it that people are likesending in guesses.
If you send in guesses, give usa little idea of why you
guessed that as opposed to whydid you choose Soda Springs?

Speaker 2 (10:19):
We're just curious.

Speaker 3 (10:20):
Yes, you know, unlike Adam, who just always guesses
St Louis.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
Why?
Because it's St Louis.
You know if you could give us alittle flavor for why you chose
thatitan was helping him out.
And um, I always joke when I'mwriting in a very popular
cyclist area.

Speaker 3 (10:51):
Friends of cyclists go way around you and we'll just
say, not, friends of cyclistsgo really close to you, so um,
so no, if you, if you've got astory of an encounter with a car
, be it good or bad or otherwise, and you'd like to share it,
send it in and maybe we willpresent it on our episode.

Speaker 2 (11:13):
Perfect.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
All right.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
Things are getting spooky now.
Yeah, I figured I would pipe insome scary creepiness.
We have another piece of fantalk.
Okay, we heard from a gentlemanby the name of Alex Bell.
Now, two things with Alex Bell.
First of all, alex, on behalfof Michael and I, we'd like to

(11:39):
thank you for being a monthlydonation device where you've
decided to give it.
Sponsor.

Speaker 3 (11:45):
Sponsor to give us a monthly donation Thank.

Speaker 2 (11:46):
You've decided to give it a sponsor, to give us a
monthly donation.
So thank you, alex.
Thank you so much.
We really appreciate you.
Alex wrote us and saiddiscovered your podcast right
after the 2023 big brag andreally enjoyed it.
He says hope to join you guysfor the 2025 ride.
Buddy, we, we're going.
Yeah, absolutely.
He says thanks Alex Bell fromPerry, georgia.

(12:09):
We've been to Perry and Alex, please join Cycling Men of
Leisure.
When you sign up for BRAG, youcan actually choose us it's
already up there and you canjoin our team and we'd love to
have you and have you part ofour group.
So thank you so much for yourmonthly donation.
Two things join our team andwe'd love to love to have you
and and have you part of a partof our group.
So thank you so much for your, your monthly donation, two
things

Speaker 3 (12:28):
yes, sir um, hopefully we can do like we did
last year and kind of get uh uh,the ride director on here to uh
to give us a uh, an overview ofthe ride this year.
So we're going to work on that.
And secondly, we've been toPerry and didn't we stay at the?
Wasn't that the statefairgrounds?

Speaker 2 (12:48):
It was, that's when it was raining.

Speaker 3 (12:50):
We were coming in, yes, and that's where you got
everybody in that restaurant towish my wife a happy anniversary
.

Speaker 2 (12:57):
Yes, it's also where I wore my Debrim when it was
raining, and I didn't get wetand you did, but yes, that was
your anniversary.
I think that was like a sodashop, like a malt.

Speaker 3 (13:08):
It was like a small shop hamburger joint type place.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
Anyway, all right.
Uh, let's see here.
Oh, this is a good one, adamwiley.
We met adam and kelly at thebourbon country burn.
They came and they hang outwith us and we got to hear their
story and we became friends.
By the time the weekend wasover, oh is this the folks that

(13:35):
were getting married?
Yes, yes.

Speaker 3 (13:37):
Cool, cool yeah.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
And they were celebrating their one-year
anniversary and I've messagedkelly a few times, here and
there, and she sent me aphotograph of the now married
adam.
They were out for theirone-year anniversary wearing a
cycling men of leisure t-shirt,with a sports coat.
Buddy adam, you are my hero.

(14:00):
I love it so wow, yes so, uh,first of all, we'd like say of
course, on your one-yearanniversary.
Congratulations.
But all right, all right, allright, but thanks for sporting.
I love it.
I thought it was really cool.
So thank you so much.
Very cool, let's see here.

(14:22):
Ooh, our friend Mandy teammateand friend, mandy from Kentucky,
happened to be in Indiana for agolf outing.
I'm sorry.

Speaker 3 (14:35):
About being in Indiana.

Speaker 2 (14:38):
Yeah, because they really took your team for a
whooping 56 to 7, buddy, Can weman?

Speaker 3 (14:47):
You got to stay focused, adam, stay focused.

Speaker 2 (14:49):
Yeah, we're not talking football.
I know Jack wagon.
She says to me that they werein the middle of nowhere and she
looked up and saw a guy with ade brim and she yelled de brim
and he gave her a big thumbs upand she thought of me so
definitely wanted to send thatand she thought of you.

Speaker 3 (15:07):
When you think of big , goofy looking hats, think of
Adam.

Speaker 2 (15:11):
Oh, my God, let's get him out of here.
But I have an update for all ofour subscribers and listeners,
so, not being afraid.
I wrote the DeBrim company andMichael knows this.
I shared it with them alreadybut, I wrote the DeBrim company

(15:31):
saying hey, listen, when I talkabout DeBrim we make it a
running joke where I'm abeliever in the product and of
course my co-host is not.
But I was curious if there'd bea sponsorship interest and I
thought their answer was verypolite, very kind.

Speaker 3 (15:46):
It was absolutely.

Speaker 2 (15:47):
They wrote back and said hey, listen, we're just not
a big enough company to do asponsor.
But, that being said, if youplease give us your t-shirt size
, we will send you some swag.
So I am going to begin to talkabout the brim even more and I'm
hoping on the next episodeepisode, instead of a cycling
man of leisure outfit, I'mhoping I'll have a big de brim

(16:08):
t-shirt and ladies and gentlemen, our next episode will not be
on youtube oh yes, it will so uh, yes, it just doesn't die, does
it?
no, it's never gonna die.
So we, uh, we are thankful forthe de brim corporation to
corporate.
I'm not.
No, it's never going to die.
So we are thankful for theDeBrim Corporation.
I'm not sure if it's acorporation.

Speaker 3 (16:29):
She said it was a smaller company, smaller company
, but apparently she didn'trealize we're a smaller company
too, that's true.

Speaker 2 (16:36):
I don't know if she understood what I meant.
I actually sent her thedonation page because if
anyone's interested, you canactually go as little as $3 a
month.
$5 a month, I mean, that's allit takes to be a sponsor.
So I'm not sure if she was like, well, we can't afford that.
And I was thinking to myselfthey're charging $50 for one of
those DeBrims.
Now Are you telling me that youwouldn't want your product

(16:58):
mentioned on every show for $3 ashow?
But I was like whatever.
But I'll appreciate the swagand I bucks a show.
But I was like whatever.
So but I'll appreciate the uhswag and I have taken your
advice and I invited her for aninterview.
So cool promise, but we'll seewhat happens there I have one
thing to point out yes, sir debrim is the reason for this.

Speaker 3 (17:16):
I have to drink on this show because of de brim.

Speaker 2 (17:20):
Oh my gosh where's that sensor button?
There we go.
All right, let's see here.
Oh, I got a couple more here.
I love, by the way.
I love when people write us.
I know you do too.
So thank you all.
My friend, jim vendor first, then friend, now vendor and
friend he says I'm going tolisten to your podcast.

(17:43):
I got a road trip coming up andhe listened to our last episode
and I felt that this was anhonest critique, so I was just
going to read it.
Just one sentence here Okay,sure.
He says I listened to thepodcast from the CEO from Cruise
Bike.
Good interview, he says, letting her give full answers
and not interrupting.
Well done, and we'll listen toothers.
So, jim, thank you, my friend, thank you.
That means the world to us, soappreciate you listening.

(18:04):
If you haven't had a chance tolisten to our last episode, I
thought Maria Parker from CruiseBike CEO was fantastic,
incredible interview.
I have a confession I listenedto the interview myself just to
enjoy it myself.
It's kind of weird to listen tomyself sometimes, but at the
same time she's so positive andeverything she's got going on.

(18:26):
So I really I while.
Yes, I was there, we recordedit, but to listen to it later
was absolutely enjoyable.

Speaker 3 (18:34):
So great story.
If you haven't, if you haven'tcheck that out, so very awesome.

Speaker 2 (18:39):
And our last piece.

Speaker 3 (18:41):
Oh, and, by the way, yes, why wouldn't we let her
talk?
Why wouldn't we let I mean you,you know, I know a lot, of a
lot of people like jump in andthey start to give an answer and
jump out.
But I mean, I mean, maybepeople get tired of hearing us.

Speaker 2 (18:56):
I'm sure they're probably like, oh, thank god
maybe because you know when,when I, when I see j, we're
always at transportationconferences and it's kind of
like a free-for-all.
Maybe because we're on the golfcourse, I maybe interrupt or
whatever.
So maybe he just meant, ormaybe he listens to other
podcasts that people interrupt.
But yeah, we definitely wantedto give her her due diligence

(19:19):
and I thought her answers wereso inspiring.

Speaker 3 (19:21):
She was interesting.
Well thank you for thecompliment.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
We appreciate it I think it's a nice compliment,
true, true critique.
So, and the last one, I wantedto give you a chance to answer.
This one's a little bit, johnny, come lately on our part.
We just been doing some otherthings, but Trent Mayberry
reached out and you had someconversations with him.
And I think you've got an answerfor him.

(19:46):
So he reached out about theCyplus pump.
He wanted the brand of the ofthe goat Jersey for uh uh rag
bribe and in the message youwrote him you weren't a hundred
percent sure, but you have anupdate on that.

Speaker 3 (19:59):
Yeah, he had.
He had, uh, wrote us, said thathe listens to it a lot of times
when he's traveling, didn'thave a chance to write down the
information and was interestedin it.
I did get back with him apartial answer.
The bike pump that we used thisyear was a rechargeable.
It was the CycloPlus A2.
And that's the one that we usedand we've been talking about a

(20:22):
couple of different times.
This came up and we'd alsotalked about the jersey.
Okay, that the goat jersey fromthe 50th anniversary of RAGBRAI
, which would have been lastyear, had a different fit and I
think we somehow hinted that itwas a different brand.
It actually is a Primal brand.
The difference is it's adifferent cut than what the

(20:46):
jerseys normally are and it's aslightly different material.

Speaker 2 (20:50):
Yeah, I remember.
The material was verysweat-wicking, almost very
cottony feel and it's a slightlydifferent material.
Yeah, I remember, so I don'tknow if it's like that.
The material was verysweat-wicking, almost very
cottony feel, very smoothcottony and honestly, for me, I
thought it was just a tad longin the back, just for me.
Just for me it was slightlylonger.

(21:11):
Once I put all my nutritions andat the time I was doing my air
pump and CO2 cartridges a littlebit different before you had
the Cyplus pump I put all thatin my back, three Jersey pockets
and uh, because of thatmaterial.
So now that I've got my systemset up on the on the stem and
you bring the pump, I'd be aokay, but I liked that Jersey.
That's fun.
It's a fun Jersey.

Speaker 3 (21:37):
So it was uh, was that it just was?

Speaker 2 (21:38):
not like the regular racing cut that you normally get
on those types of rides.
As far as fan talk, that is thelast piece, except for the
guests for listener spotlight, but in normal fashion, I wanted
you to give the clues again andremember, if you remember
correctly, I thought I had guess.
Yeah, I did guess st louis.
Away from the show, I on theshow, I I did not, uh, say it,

(22:01):
but based upon some of thethings you said, I felt as
though st louis could honestlybe the answer and I just keep
expecting you to try to trick me.
And so, um, I still feel likeit's St Louis.

Speaker 3 (22:13):
But if you would like to read the guesses, I'll read
it and then you can give whatthe guest our listener guest,
and then we'll go from there.
Okay, here's what I gave you forthe last one.
The area was controlled by theFrench but was ceded to the
British Empire.
It was founded in the early1800s at the confluences of two

(22:39):
rivers.
It's named for a Europeanexplorer, nice.
I like that.
The town helped establish theorganized labor movement and it
has a very notable connection tothe heisman trophy.
Okay, so which?
What's matt's guess?

Speaker 2 (23:00):
matt's guess is greetings gentlemen.
Super easy again this week.
He says oh, I love theconfidence he says it's p's
Pittsburgh, Clearly named forWilliam Pitts, Brad Pitts
seventh great uncle.
The rivers are the Algoni andthe Mahogany M-O-N-O-G-A-H-E-L-A

(23:29):
.
John Heisman grew up in thearea.
The Treaty of Paris set areafree from France and there have
been lots of steel-type unionlabor, strikes and progress over
the years.
An improbable chance that myguess is wrong.
Once again I'm going to blamethe 1792 small batch bourbon

(23:50):
upon.
I sip this afternoon.

Speaker 3 (23:53):
I agree that's nice.
Blame it on bourbon.

Speaker 2 (24:01):
He is guessing Pittsburgh and I am guessing St
Louis.

Speaker 3 (24:04):
Missouri.
Now those are both very goodguesses, because both of them
are at the confluence of tworivers.
I'm a little confused on theEuropean Explorer, because St

(24:25):
Louis was named after a king, ifI remember correctly.

Speaker 2 (24:29):
And.

Speaker 3 (24:29):
Pittsburgh was named after.
Yes, mr Pitt.
Yes, brad's great, great greatgrandfather, or whatever, but if
I remember right, he was just apolitician.
I don't think he was anexplorer.
Could be wrong there, but um soit's interesting.
You want me to tell you what itis.
It's St Louis, go ahead uh well, matt, keep on sipping that,

(24:58):
that whiskey, um, because youare incorrect.
But that's okay.
Appreciate the answer.
Keep going, adam.
Ladies and gentlemen, boys andgirls, adam is incorrect, oh man
.

Speaker 2 (25:14):
But you know what?

Speaker 3 (25:15):
Both of the people answering this, you guys were
both.
When I brought this up, youimmediately says I know this one
, and Matt was very confidenttoo.
So I really appreciate thelevel of confidence you guys are
bringing to the game.

Speaker 2 (25:27):
Where is that censor button?
Okay, I was giving you kudos.

Speaker 3 (25:31):
I know I really felt, based upon the French and the
two rivers that I Now I will saythat both of these towns that
your guesses do fit the, theywere ceded to the British Empire
from the French things of thatnature.
So a lot of that does doesmatch.
But um, the city for today'slistener spotlight is in fact

(25:59):
columbus ohio.

Speaker 2 (26:05):
He's like you know, you know, I live in michigan,
right.
I know you live in Michigan, right.

Speaker 3 (26:09):
I know you live in.
Well, you know I can't leaveout and here's how I got that
the Treaty of Paris 1783, cededthat area, as well as others,
from the French to the BritishEmpire.
It was founded in the 1800s atthe confluence of two rivers.
It was actually founded onFebruary 14th of 1812.
Here's the one I thought wasgoing to be pretty easy.

(26:33):
You know name for a Europeanexplorer, christopher Columbus.
Why Columbus, ohio is named forChristopher Columbus?
No one really knows, becauseChristopher Columbus has no
affiliation with the state orthe city or anything else.

Speaker 2 (26:50):
Is there a Lee Ferrickson Ohio?

Speaker 3 (26:54):
I don't know, but he would have more association with
ohio than christopher columbuswould quite honestly.
Uh, those vikings wereeverybody everywhere.
The town helped establishorganized labor union.
Uh, it is actually the uh, thetown where several labor unions

(27:15):
were founded, and among thoseinclude the American Federation
of Labor and the United MineWorkers of America's unions were
both founded in that town andit's notable collection to the
Heisman trophy, archie Griffin.
Good old Archie, you remember.

Speaker 2 (27:30):
Archie, oh man, archie.

Speaker 3 (27:33):
We go way back Eastmore High School there in
Columbus.
Yeah, the reason why that'simportant is actually Archie
Griffin is the only person tohave ever won the Heisman Trophy
twice.

Speaker 2 (27:47):
Really yes, sir, okay , okay.

Speaker 3 (27:50):
So, thank you, our listeners from Columbus, ohio,
keep listening.
We appreciate it, matt.
Thank you very much.
It was a great guess, but noton point this time.
And, adam, one of these daysI'm pulling out St Louis, so
don't give up on it.

Speaker 2 (28:08):
I'm not giving up.

Speaker 3 (28:09):
You know the time that I pull out, st Louis,
you're going to be like everytime.
For the last 600 times I'veguessed St Louis.
I'm guessing you know Rochester, new York.

Speaker 2 (28:20):
Well, listen.
Thank you Listeners fromColumbus Ohio, thank you all
listeners.
But this episode, thank youColumbus Ohio.
There see, I was a man, I, I, I, uh.
Held my head up high becausethe show means the world to us.
So, um, I actually have familylives in columbus, ohio.

Speaker 3 (28:38):
Maybe that's uh that's why, when you said I know
this one, I was like I didn'targue with you because I was
like I bet he doesn't know thisone because I knew you had
family that lived there and it'slike, okay, I gave him some
nugget there that he was able todraw.

Speaker 2 (28:51):
But okay, it's okay, your family, I'm sure, is not
listening, we're okay you know, actually I was recently in ohio
for a wedding and, um, Iphysically watched a bunch of my
family follow our show.
So maybe they are listening andif they are, that's why I say
if we, if, if they are, that'swhy I say thank you If they are.

Speaker 3 (29:11):
Thank you for listening and I apologize for
Adam Sorry.

Speaker 2 (29:15):
They are fully aware of the sports rivalry and the
multiple comments.
As a matter of fact, even mycontact they even say it's Adam
from Michigan.
So I'm not afraid to let themknow.
It's a very fun family rivalry, good Cool, all right.

(29:37):
Well, hopefully, as usual, youwill have another listener,
spotlight.

Speaker 3 (29:46):
I do indeed, it's a good one.

Speaker 2 (29:50):
Let's get into our spooky Halloween episode here.
So you have got a few thingsfor us.
You've got some paranormalactivity, you have some cycling
fears, yes, and you're going totell us a little bit about a

(30:12):
ghost bike.

Speaker 3 (30:13):
Yes, where do you want to start?

Speaker 2 (30:16):
Well, why don't we start with oh, let's save the
paranormal activity for the end.

Speaker 3 (30:22):
Yes, I think that'd be appropriate.

Speaker 2 (30:25):
Why don't we go with, since I know what a ghost bike
is?
Why don't we go something sadinto the cycling fears and then
end it on a spooky note?

Speaker 3 (30:35):
Okay, I'm going to talk a little bit about ghost
bikes.
When we were coming up withideas for the show, you know, we
wanted things like Halloweenand stuff like that and that got
to be thinking about ghostbikes and, surprisingly, a lot
of people don't know anythingabout them, even people in the
cycling community.
It's interesting, a lot of themdon't know anything about ghost

(30:56):
bikes and I know you and I havementioned it on one or two
occasions when we've been outthere cycling.
But I thought it might beinteresting to talk a little bit
about ghost bike, what it isand its purpose and, um, really
a ghost bike.
You'll see them occasionally, like in cities.
They'll be, uh, like next tolampposts and things like that,

(31:19):
and what they are is they'll bejust like a basic bike.
Generally they're stripped downand they're painted all white
and they're known as ghost bikesand what these are is really a
memorial um to someone who has,uh, you know been, has you know
been, you know, killed in sometype of biking accident, whether
they were hit by a car or theyfell or what have you.

(31:42):
And it's just a way for thecycling community to, kind of
number one, remember thatcyclist.
But, even more important, itmakes a really stark comment to
the non-cyclist.
You know, um, seeing the starkall white bikes out there and,

(32:09):
uh, hopefully it reminds peoplethat you know, part of my
responsibility is not onlykeeping me safe but also not
doing things that are going toendanger pedestrians or cyclists
and things like that.
So I thought it was worthbringing up, and I did have a
couple of facts here that I didwant to bring up, and these are
facts from 2013.
So we're looking about 11 yearsago, but roughly 48,000

(32:33):
cyclists were injured in 2013 onthe road.
Wow, more than 740 were killedin crashes with motor vehicles.
No-transcript.

(33:13):
It's like, well, I saw thiswhite bicycle and a lot of towns
don't like it Cause.
It's like, well, this bicycleis just, you know, chained to
this post or whatever.
If you get the opportunity tobring that up in conversation
and say, well, there's a reasonfor that, it's not somebody just
you know, uh, being a jerk orwhatever that there's actually a
purpose in it and you know.
So that's what I wanted to talka little bit about.

(33:33):
Ghost bikes.

Speaker 2 (33:35):
I appreciate that.
I mean you and I have been partof multiple rides that had
right of silence.
I mean a mile of silence, andsometimes there's ghost bikes
there.
We've been through towns, either in Iowa or Illinois or
wherever we've been, and we'vejust seen a random, all, all

(33:56):
white.
I mean they spray paint theentire pedals, seats, posts,
it's tires everything is whiteand um, kind of just makes you
have that, you know, just asecond where you sit back and
you think about, you know, thinkabout that for a second.
So, um, so I really appreciatethat uh way to bring the show
down.
I'm just kidding, um, but um,uh, I I'm, and I bet you a lot

(34:25):
of people have seen that andhave probably have driven by and
not realized why a bike waspainted all white.

Speaker 3 (34:28):
So, yeah, I think, um , I know I've talked to a couple
people over the last few yearswho have seen them and I think
the perception is a lot like.
The perception that I got fromthis person I was talking to is
they thought it was some type ofartist was trying to make a
memorial and a visual reminderabout, you know, cycling safety

(34:54):
and you know it really is town'sresponsibility to make not just
sidewalks, not just roads, butsafe for pedestrians and
motorists, but also for cyclists.

Speaker 2 (35:05):
So there we have it.
I'm glad I appreciate youtelling us about that.

Speaker 3 (35:13):
Let's get into something a little less, you
know, yeah, let's bring it up alittle bit.

Speaker 2 (35:18):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, cycling fears.
Now, when you?
Brought this up and we weredoing some show prep.
This sounded like a funactivity, and so tell us what
you had in mind for cyclingfears.

Speaker 3 (35:35):
What I did is I created a list of my top 10
cycling fears and I think a lotof people can relate to a lot of
these.
So, kind of in the theme of ifyou remember the old Dave
Letterman show, the top 10 thingyou know, I thought I'd do kind

(35:55):
of a top 10 cycling fears forthis Halloween season and I'm
hoping that people will be ableto think about and resonate with
a few of these.
Are you ready?

Speaker 2 (36:07):
Number 10.

Speaker 3 (36:08):
There we go.
Someone from work recognizesyou dressed in spandex.

Speaker 2 (36:16):
Oh, yeah, that would definitely be.
Yeah, trust me, when you and Iwent to Big Brag 2022, when you
and I absolutely loved thejersey, a picture was floating
around when I got back to workand everyone's like you wore
that.
Yes, I did.

Speaker 3 (36:32):
Yes, I did At that point.
You've just got to wear it withpride, loud and proud Number
nine, number nine.
Your Strava account gets hackedand all of your records are
erased.

Speaker 2 (36:46):
Oh, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3 (36:49):
I would not like that .

Speaker 2 (36:50):
I am a big deal but I'm a premium.
I pay for the full servicemembership.
I like to see all that data andstuff, but yeah, that would not
be good.
No.

Speaker 3 (37:02):
Number eight.
An open drain appears justahead as a car is passing you.
You got nowhere to go.

Speaker 2 (37:12):
No.

Speaker 3 (37:12):
Which is kind of reminiscent of your tire blows
out, there's a car next to youand there's nowhere to go.

Speaker 2 (37:21):
Yeah, that seems very reminiscent to me yeah.
Yeah, number seven.

Speaker 3 (37:27):
Number seven.
The next economic crisis bringsback past COVID times, when
waiting for?
Uh, when the waiting, whenthere was a waiting period for
spare parts lasting six monthsor more, when you needed chains,
shifters, pedals, and had towait six months because
everybody was cycling.

Speaker 2 (37:46):
It's amazing, like you couldn't get tram parts, you
couldn't get Shimano parts, youcouldn't get anything.
People were borrowing stuff offof old secondary bikes and
stuff.

Speaker 3 (37:56):
So I was about ready to start stripping down the old
Le Mans here and start sellingoff parts on it.

Speaker 2 (38:02):
You and I both got a bunch of bikes in the garage.
I know it's like we didn'treally know how much gold we had
hanging in the rack, we blew it.
Number six, number six, howmuch gold?

Speaker 3 (38:13):
we had hanging in the rack, we blew it.
We blew it, number six, numbersix.
You lock your bike to a pole, but in your haste it is only the
pole.
You return to find your lockstill secured to the pole where
your bike is.
You have no idea, oh nice, sohave you ever done something
like that, where you're likedoing something to lock

(38:33):
something up and then you likerealize it's like well, I didn't
really even do that, right yeah.
Yeah, I have actually, I raninto somebody who was all about
locking up their bike.
That's fine, you know me, I'mlike steal my bike.
Fine, whatever, give me anexcuse to buy a new one.
They locked it up and literallythey put it around the thing
and there was like peopleshouting at them and they just

(38:54):
locked it and they forgot tolock it through the frame or the
tire, or the frame and the tire, and it was just on the pole.
So the pole good news was notgoing to go anywhere.
I mean, their bike didn't getstolen.
But can you just imagine, oh, Igot my bike locked up and go
there and there's your lock.
It's still chained up, lockedsolid, but your bike's gone.

Speaker 2 (39:13):
Remember when we took all the packouts to Rackbri and
we had our charger and then Ikept all the rechargeables and
then some of our money and ifyou remember, I locked.
What I thought was it lockedthe whole thing.
We went to town all night longand everyone's on us there
anyway.
But I just was concernedbecause I had my other work cell

(39:34):
phone on there and everything.
And we got back and I pointedout to you I'm like what's a
good thing I had that locked.
What I had done is I closed thelock, but I actually had never
closed the top piece, so it wasjust a lock on the bottom part
of the ring.

Speaker 3 (39:46):
It was locked, though .

Speaker 2 (39:52):
But you know what it's the perception.
That's right, and peoplethought it was locked.

Speaker 3 (39:54):
So number five Number five the mud stuck in the
bottom of your cleat isn't mud.

Speaker 2 (40:02):
Oh yeah, that would not be good.

Speaker 3 (40:07):
No, don't reach down to clean that out.
When you're trying to click inand it's like oh, You've been in
Iowa too much.
Oh yeah, way too much.

Speaker 2 (40:17):
Number four.

Speaker 3 (40:19):
You lay out your ride kit the night before and it
includes a DeBrem.
This is a nightmare scenario.

Speaker 2 (40:27):
What?
Oh my gosh.

Speaker 3 (40:32):
This is a cycling fear I have.

Speaker 2 (40:36):
Number three.

Speaker 3 (40:37):
Next I'm laying out the full kit and there's a
DeBrim hook to it and with itit's like, oh, that would be
awful, oh gosh, oh, here's agood one.
What number are we?
Number three, Number three.
You attend a ride out of townand realize the morning of your
ride you forgot your cyclingshoes.
That never happens.

Speaker 2 (40:58):
Well, I wonder.
I mean, I may not be thebrightest bulb in the tree, but
has that ever happened to us?
You know what?
Yeah, give me, give me a reallyreally stupid things that

(41:23):
Michael's done for a hundred.
Please, hey, listen, we'regoing to move on.

Speaker 3 (41:26):
Let's, let's do number two All right, you start
up a long, steep Hill.
We've been there.
Just as you do, an old pickuptruck pulls right up in behind
the cyclist in front of you andthe truck lacks a new exhaust,
so you're sucking down theexhaust of the old pickup truck

(41:49):
all the way up the hill.
That's happened to us.
It has happened to us.
It's horrible.
You're like cycling and it's abig hill anyway and there's
cyclists right in front of youand it's like, okay, no problem.
And then you get, and then thisold truck pulls up.
It's got a 35 year old exhaustsystem that's never been fixed
and it's just pouring out youknow toxic stuff and you're

(42:18):
sitting there huffing andpuffing and all your huffing and
puffing is exhaust and the guyis laughing in the in the cab of
the truck.
Yeah, you know, I'd even feelbetter I think about it if I
realized the guy knew that hewas doing that and he was like
look what I'm doing.
The problem with it is is thislike some good old boy that
probably had no clue that he wastrying to, you know, kill me
back there with epoxy orwhatever?

Speaker 2 (42:36):
you know, whatever it might be there just might be a
special place in hell for peoplelike that.

Speaker 3 (42:43):
Agreed.

Speaker 2 (42:46):
And ladies and gentlemen, last but not least,
number one.

Speaker 3 (42:50):
The number one cycling fear.
You're on a week-long ride, youtake your bags to the baggage
truck and 15 minutes laterrealize you forgot to pull out a
key piece of gear that that'salso happened to you.
It's never happened to you ofcourse it has I hate that.

(43:14):
You know you're packing up allyour stuff and you're getting
ready to ride and you put it allin there and you get it up on
the truck and you know there's50 people behind you also
loading up the stuff.
You get back to your bike andthen you start going through
everything and it's like, oh, mybike computer.
You're reaching in the back andit's not there.
And then you're like, oh crap,it's on the truck in my bag.
And then you walk over thereand your bag is like buried

(43:35):
behind you know 200 bags alreadyand it's like there's no
retrieving it.

Speaker 2 (43:40):
That's kind of why I really like when Melanie was
saying that they bike packedacross Ragbriar, she's like
there was no forgetting anything.
That was really cool.
I mean forgetting anything thatwas really cool.
I mean that was one of the partof her stories that I I enjoyed
as well.
It was like you know what, ifyou bike pack, you got
everything with you.
There is no leaving yourcomputer.
There is no, you know, leavingsomething in your bag.
You got everything with you.

(44:00):
Then again it was thehilliard's rag bar.
I and melanie decided to bikeback, so maybe but you know what
you could do.

Speaker 3 (44:08):
We could just you.
We could just hook theMilwaukee packouts onto the back
one with the rollers on thebottom, and you could just,
you'd have a trailer.
I'm not suggesting we do that, but At the hilliest rag braai
ever yeah.

Speaker 2 (44:25):
Speaking of rag braai before we get into our
paranormal stories.
Did you see the logo?
Reveal, hint I did not.
It is going to be announced onthe 25th of October, by the time
this show comes out, theofficial logo will be out, but

(44:46):
they are giving you somewhat ofa hint and it looks like to be.

Speaker 3 (44:50):
The hint is better than last year's.

Speaker 2 (44:53):
Oh God for sure.

Speaker 3 (44:54):
I was not a fan of last year's logo.
Sorry, ragbrai, didn't reallygroove on the logo, didn't?

Speaker 2 (44:59):
do it for me either, but this one looks to be like on
a B-52, and it happens to beRAGBRAI-52.
But it looks like it's on aB-52 bomber.

Speaker 3 (45:10):
And my question then is does this give you some idea
of where it might be going?

Speaker 2 (45:15):
You know, I tried to look.
I want to be honest, I tried tolook like the B-52.
And the only thing I could seeis there was a story that the
B-52 bomber flew over centralIowa, but I couldn't see like
was made there or or whatever soI think what I would have been
looking for is air force bases.

(45:35):
Okay, that's a good point.
That's a good point.
So I know this is a.

Speaker 3 (45:41):
I mean you've got, you've got.
You know Omaha right there, butthat's in the Nebraska side.

Speaker 2 (45:46):
But that's cool.
So that is.
It says drum roll please.
This is your very first RAGBRAIhint, so see if I hold my phone
straight.

Speaker 3 (45:56):
So it's like the.
It looks like a piece of theshell of a bomber.

Speaker 2 (46:03):
That's correct.
That's what it looks like.
That's the first RAGBRAI hintand they're doing a fundraiser
for the actual um logo reveal onthe 25th.
So what?

Speaker 3 (46:13):
do you mean a fundraiser?

Speaker 2 (46:15):
uh, they're doing like a whole event to release
the release the join us for thelogo reveal and open house on 10
25 at the rag bry headquartersum, so you can go on down to Des
Moines, iowa, um.
And on the 25th and uh, so farthere are 26 people going join

(46:35):
us for a happy hour at RagbriMaybe it's not a fundraiser Uh,
join us for a happy hour atRagbri headquarters.
Ahead of our in-person Ragbri52 logo reveal, the shop will be
open and the new Ragbrimerchandise will be available to
purchase, along with someclassic fall items.
That's from six 30 central time.
Hey, you like central time?

Speaker 3 (46:58):
Central time is awesome.

Speaker 2 (47:00):
Six 30 central time is when they're revealing the
new logo for ragbri 52.
And since we are a cyclingcentric podcast, that's why I
brought it up.
So, anyways, all right, we'vegot a couple things left for
this show.
We've got your paranormalactivity, or my or our

(47:20):
paranormal activity, and thenwe've got listener spotlight.

Speaker 3 (47:26):
Okay, Well, I was just doing some quick checking
here, because with that sidepanel I was thinking because it
looked like you know showed therivets and stuff, like maybe
they were talking about theywould give you some hint of not
only the logo but maybesomeplace where they were going.
But I just checked in theStratofortress which was the
B-52, was not manufacturedanywhere in Iowa, so no hints

(47:49):
there.
Wichita, kansas though.

Speaker 2 (47:52):
Seattle.
I saw that this morning.
I thought about the Kansas.

Speaker 3 (47:55):
but Okay, anyway, paranormal stories Do you have
any?
Have you ever been haunted?
Do you see dead people?
Does stuff move around yourhouse that's not being moved by
your wife?
Do you hear like strange soundsat night of like people
screaming in your basement?
I mean other than like when I'mthere, but you know.

Speaker 2 (48:19):
Yeah, I have a hearing issue.
So when you scream in thebasement, I just ignore it.

Speaker 3 (48:24):
You just ignore it anyway.
He's just screaming.
Don't worry, he'll be fine.

Speaker 2 (48:29):
I only have one.
When you, you know, I mean, obviously we do homework for the
show and we're pretty creativeguys, but not that creative to
come up with all this stuff.
Um, when we talked about it forthe for the halloween show, um,
I was thinking to myself youknow what did?

(48:51):
I have a paranormal story andmine's not very good.
I'm going to share it.
I, um, but mine's not very good.
My wife and I, um, were on thedeck, um, and to give people an
idea, I have a double layer deck.
We were on the upper level ofthe deck and I was, uh, we were
on a swing and we were lookingout, just at the back of my
property I live in the city, soit's not that much property, but

(49:13):
, um, and it was gettingnighttime and the only thing I
can tell you of my entire 40something years on this planet,
there was a device flying and itwas like a triangle shape.
It would be what is nowconsidered a UFO, now that the

(49:38):
60 Minutes and all of them havecome out and said you know,
unidentified flying object.
It was definitely not a regularlight pattern and the way it
was moving was really kind of,uh, kind of creepy and it's
probably the only thing.
I've always been a guy who'sskeptical.
When people are like, oh, I sawa ufo, I'm like, oh yeah, right
, you saw a ufo.

(49:59):
I've always been a guy who'sbeen skeptical of like um, oh
yeah, we were there and I heard, you know, whispers and there
was noises and I I it's not thatI'm a non-believer, I've just
never had any.
I'm a see it, believe it kindof guy and that would be the
only thing in my entire, um, myentire life.
That was definitelyunexplainable.

(50:21):
It was definitely uh for uh.
For me it was like the firstthing that I was ever like wow,
that's that's strange, the waythat thing is flying and the way
the thing is moving across thesky and it seemed and my father
was in aviation, so I think youknow my history of flying
objects and how fast things canmove and everything and so this

(50:42):
thing was moving, this thing wasmoving really quick and so and
it's where it was off in thedistance made me go wow, and so
that's that's honestly, I knowit's not very good for the show
and I wish I could be like ohyeah, man, I heard these, you
know creepy voices, I will getyou, you know, or something like
that.
But you know I, I wanted tohave something better for the

(51:05):
better for the uh well, that'sokay.

Speaker 3 (51:07):
I mean, you know it's unexplained, it doesn't have to
be.
You know it's unexplained, itdoesn't have to be paranormal,
it can be unexplained.
He did not see anything.

Speaker 2 (51:14):
He's not telling the truth, just kidding.

Speaker 3 (51:18):
Yeah, men in black are going to come and shut down
our show now.
Thank you, appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (51:21):
Give us your credit card, no just kidding, no, but I
wish I had a better paranormalstory.
But that's it, man.
I'm a book I can be read,because I'm just an honest guy.
That would be my only thing.

Speaker 3 (51:36):
Okay, hmm, all right.
Well, I've got to say I havehad a very spooky experience, a
couple of very spookyexperiences.
I am not going to sit here andsay that they were ghosts, they
were specters, they wereanything.
I'm just saying it was kind ofweird and I can't explain it.

(51:59):
In high school a good friend ofmine named Mark lived in this
older house and we'd go overthere and spend a lot of time in
his house and his parents werebig in the community so they
were always out doing communitythings.
We spent a lot of time in hisbasement.
Well, one and he used to tellme stories and I used to like,

(52:19):
okay, yeah, whatever, you're,just like whatever.
But he said one Halloween, hesaid me and another friend of
ours.
He said let's come over to myhouse and we'll spend the night.
It's like, okay, fine, we'dspent the night there before In
his basement.
It was weird anyway.
I mean, they were very kind ofhigh-end decor type things and

(52:42):
at the time they had wallpaperthat was white, that had black
ladies' faces on it.
I mean like the faces of theladies were outlined in black
lady's faces on it.
You know, I mean like the thefaces of the ladies were
outlined in black.
So it was kind of like you know, I mean it very high end.
But it was kind of like weirdto begin with.
Um, so you had the main room andthen around the corner you had
like a bar area.
We're just hanging out therewe're watching some movies

(53:05):
probably some ninja movies orsomething like that and, um,
we're like, oh, let's get a soda.
So we went, got up, went aroundthe corner to get a soda and
we're sitting there, we'retalking.
He set the soda up there.
We're chatting some more aboutpointless stuff that you chat
about.

(53:28):
And he says, look at that, andthe Coke can is sitting on the
bar and it is just rotating veryslowly, very evenly, not jerky,
just very slowly rotating in acircle, very smoothly.
And I was like, okay, what'sdoing that?
And all of us stepped away fromthe bar.
So there wasn't anybodymanipulating anything and it's
like there's gotta be anexplanation.
So we unplugged therefrigerator, thinking that the

(53:50):
vibrations of the you know, themini fridge was causing it
nothing.
It was still doing that.
So finally it was like I betthere's water or something under
.
So finally we just picked upthe can.
There was no moisture under atall.
The can was just sitting thereand probably for 45, 50 seconds
before we picked it up, was justslowly turning in a complete
rotation around, which wasreally creepy, that's

(54:15):
interesting.
We went there another time andwe're down in his basement again
probably watching, you know, ninja movies or whatever the
movie was back in those days, and we heard his back door open.
Somebody came in.
I mean, we'd been there, youknow, dozens of times before we
hear people.
You know the back door camefrom their driveway, in their

(54:37):
garage.
So you know his parents weren'thome, so we just assumed.
So he went over there and hejust yelled he goes hey, you
know what?
The guys are over, we're justwatching movies.
And there was no response andso he got back up again.
He goes hey, because then acouple seconds later we heard
somebody walking further downthe hall upstairs and it was
like okay, that's weird.
So then he's like what's goingon?

(54:57):
So we all hopped up and we ranhim and I ran upstairs and
there's like nobody up there.
We clearly heard the door open, close and somebody walking
around and we went through theentire house, literally under
beds, closets, everything firstfloor upstairs, everywhere, and
did not find a single.
You know, nobody was in thehouse.

(55:18):
His parents got back like twohours later from their thing.
They hadn't been home.
So there was just weird thingslike that.
It's like I'm not gonna saythere was like hauntings or
ghosts or anything, but it wasjust really weird.

Speaker 2 (55:29):
I could never explain it.
And that was.
That was a house in kansas, nice, yep.

Speaker 3 (55:35):
So he used to tell us stories about it.
We used to be like whatever, but there was a.
There was a couple other thingsthat happened, but just enough
weird things happened that youcouldn't explain and you
couldn't really debunk yourself, bunk yourself, that it was like
, yeah, a little weird, so.
So I've had a couple of thosebizarre experiences where don't

(55:59):
know what's going on, maybenothing.
Maybe it's just all in ourimaginations, who knows?

Speaker 2 (56:03):
You know, um, I mean there's.
There's been people out therewho you know obviously truly
believe and have seen and heardthings.

Speaker 3 (56:14):
I'm not going to say doesn't exist.
I'm not going to say they'renot there.
I'm not going to say there'snot some dimensional beings or
spirits stuck here or what.
I'm not going to say there'snot, because I can't prove it.
I'm a very based in sciencetype guy.
Show me evidence.
You want me to believe inBigfoot?
Show me some evidence showingme that there's a Bigfoot or

(56:37):
something other than just agrainy picture of somebody
trying to run and that kind ofthing.
Show me some evidence.
But I'm not the type of personto discredit it right away,
because there is so much we donot know about the world we live
in.

Speaker 2 (56:50):
So and I think that's definitely well said.
I mean, you know, my, my wife, highly highly enjoys watching,
um, you know, deep dives ofparanormal activity, different
shows, and I think for me it'salways um, like some of the
times when I go in the room andshe likes to watch this stuff on

(57:12):
YouTube, and some of it to meis so obvious that it's fake
that then I go what are youwatching this trash for?
Yeah, but then some of it, youknow, is it's interesting?
I won't say that it's notinteresting, it's interesting.
I won't say that it's notinteresting.
But I think when they use thoseoh, and this just shows you,

(57:34):
I'm not educated in this, butthey use those computer devices
to be like oh, yeah, and whywere you so in this room and so
sad.
Oh.
EVPs, EVPs yeah.
Yeah.
And I'm always like you don'tbelieve that trash, do you?
So I'm a nonbeliever when itcomes to like that stuff, um or
it says something, it's like andthey're like it said, it's

(57:56):
gonna kill me, or you know, Imean they.

Speaker 3 (57:58):
They say, you know, they start telling you what it,
what they, they, they want it,or they hear it saying, and then
you and your mind are going.
It does kind of sound that way.
You know, it's one of thosethings that it's like if, if you
just listen to it, it doesn't,it could be saying nothing.
You know, who knows?
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (58:14):
So, but you know what , that's what she enjoys, so
whatever.
So, uh, but yeah, I mean, whenyou had mentioned this side, I
thought it'd be interesting toto kind of kind of share, but
that's it for me.

(58:34):
I mean, I mean, I've, um, myfather-in-law tells a story of a
true I mean, and when I'm I'mtelling you he's telling me the
story.
He is either he's told thestory enough where he believes
it, or but he talks about a ufoand they were him and his
buddies were camping and he saidit scared him.
To this day he's stillsomething, something they saw
when they were camping, something just so unexplainable.

(58:55):
So but Halloween's always a funholiday.
I mean, halloween it's just oneof those things where you know
spooky and the idea, and youknow even even the, the more
cartoonist halloween and, uh,you know even disney this is

(59:15):
halloween, you know all that, all that stuff.
It's always a good holiday.
So oh yeah, and thanksgiving'skind of like meh, and then
christmas a lot of food, yeah, alot of food a lot of food food
football.
You know what about Foodfootball?
You know what about Maya Everget scared of anything around
Halloween?
I know she's getting a littlebit older now.

Speaker 3 (59:37):
Well, she gets scared of a few things here and there,
but overall she'll watch scarymovies and it's okay.
She used to have the usualthing scared of the dark, sure,
oh, dad, go down in the basementwith me and things like that.
But you know she's outgrownthat at this point.

Speaker 2 (59:55):
When I was growing up , to show you my era, it was
always Friday the 13th andFreddy Krueger movies, nightmare
on Elm Street, oh man, when thenext Friday the 13th would come
out, we would watch it and Ijust remember like jump scare
and all that stuff like ah, youknow so, uh, I was, I'm, I, uh.
I'll tell you that those arenot my most favorite movie, even

(01:00:17):
to this day.
I'm like yeah, I don't get intohorror movies, really I don't
want to sit in the chair andthen wake up with like my neck
hurting the next day because I'mlike, oh, oh, yeah, well,
listen, I've enjoyed ourHalloween episode.
We definitely need to close itout here with the listener

(01:00:39):
spotlight.

Speaker 3 (01:00:41):
That is right.
Got a good one for you.
Here we go.
In the mid 1850s, whitesettlers moved into this area
due to the Mineral Springs.
It is a area, or a town city, that is known for its large

(01:01:03):
amount of recreationalopportunities Lots of
recreational things to doopportunities, lots of
recreational things to do.
In the late fifties, if youwere serious about science and
physics, the town's high schoolwould have been the place you
would have wanted to go toschool.

(01:01:24):
And here you go.
If you don't drive carefullygoing into this town, you might
end up slamming into the side ofa feed store.
Wow, and there you go and I willsay yes in my opinion, I gave a

(01:01:51):
huge clue, huge.
You only need to know one ofthese.
You only need to know one ofthese to be able to nail it.

Speaker 2 (01:02:04):
Huh, well, so far I would Meh.
Meh, well, so far, I would Meh.

Speaker 3 (01:02:11):
Minerals recreational opportunity.
Mineral Springs recreationalopportunities 1950s, high school
science and physics Slamminginto the side of a feed store if
you don't drive carefully.

Speaker 2 (01:02:27):
I don't want a pickle , I just want to ride on my
motor sickle Sickle.
I don't want to die pickle, Ijust want to ride on my motor
sickle.
So I don't want to die, I justwant to ride and I will tell you
right now, it's not st louisand I figured that but mark get
to guessing matt, matt it wasokay.

Speaker 3 (01:02:45):
I'm sorry man oh, I'm terrible with names you know
what?

Speaker 2 (01:02:48):
you know that true story we'll be like we'll be
somewhere and he'll be like like.
He'll know the person.
He's like Matt I'm terriblewith names.
You know what.
You know that True story We'llbe like we'll be somewhere and
he'll be like he'll know theperson.
He's like hey, that's Mandy,right?
Yes, that's Mandy.
Or hey, that's Janine.
I don't even know who Janine is.
No, it's not Janine.

Speaker 3 (01:03:07):
That's Jim.
Oh, come on, it's not that bad.
I am terrible with names andit's like I know this person.
I've talked to this personbefore.
I don't remember names worthdiddly, so.

Speaker 2 (01:03:16):
And I always tease him because we both were in
wedding photography and I alwayssaid, well, didn't you do like
the rule of three, like threetimes.
Hi Adam, I'm Adam.
Hey Adam, what do you do?
Hey Adam, he's like, yeah, I Idid back then, but not now.
So, yeah, I'm not working now,I'm just riding, so, but you got
a lot of cameras there behindyou, so I do.
Yes.
Before we end it out, I uh, Iwould love to throw out a couple

(01:03:40):
things.
Um, okay, who's doing big ridesnext year?
Where are you going?
Um, we'll just make thestatement we're not going to rag
braai, even though we supporttheir new logo and wishing the
best.
Uh, we are going to big brag, but where should we go?
Where are you guys going?
Where can we maybe join you?
Where could you join us?
Where could we meet up?

Speaker 3 (01:04:02):
give us some ideas, we would and even if they're
like maybe, uh, not a full weekride, maybe a three-day ride,
let us know mean we're lookingfor ideas because we are doing
Georgia again.
We've done that several times.
We're going to do it again.
We're not always going to doGeorgia, but we're not doing
RAGBRAI and we're looking forsome other options.

(01:04:23):
So if you guys know some goodrides, send us the information.

Speaker 2 (01:04:27):
Good rides Send us the information.
I really appreciate that.
We've made a few mentions aboutdonations.
Just want to be clear what isthe goal for us?
What are we trying to do?
Why would what would that behelpful?
So donations help us keep thisthing going.

(01:04:48):
We use the funds for thisplatform to be able to put our
podcast out, and so there's acouple of different ways you can
do that.
You can do it through ourlanding page of our
cyclingmanofleisurepodcastcom.
You can see there's a supportlink there.
You can also go to our website, cyclingmanofleisurecom and then
com excuse me and then what youcould do is you'll see

(01:05:10):
donations that you can become amonthly donation three bucks a
month, five bucks a month orwhatever.
If you want to help us out.
We appreciate all of you Justwant to explain what the
donations are going for.

Speaker 3 (01:05:22):
Because here's the deal we're like NPR without the
N, the P or the R.
We're not making money off this.
I mean, we're not like sittingthere going.
Yeah, basically, you know, wedo have some people who do
sponsor us a little bit orpeople who do contribute to the
cause and all that is doing isthat's going to pay for the

(01:05:45):
platforms that we use and thosetype of things.
You know, we have a website.
It takes a little money tomaintain the website.
It takes some money every monthfor this platform, things like
that.
So it's not like we're, youknow, eating steak next week
because you know we're makingtons of money, because we're not
really making any money.
And that's okay, because that'snot our goal here.

(01:06:07):
Our goal has never been to makemoney.

Speaker 2 (01:06:12):
No, but we do appreciate those who have made
some donations.

Speaker 3 (01:06:15):
Absolutely.

Speaker 2 (01:06:17):
We felt just like NPR .
When NPR says something, theyget a donation.
They have the bank of phonesbehind them.
We felt that we needed to tellyou what the donations were
going for.

Speaker 3 (01:06:28):
Absolutely.

Speaker 2 (01:06:29):
And so it helps keep the cause going and doing what
we're doing.
So, last but not least, I'dlike to thank everybody that
took their time to do fan talkand write us.
It means the world Men, women, children all of you out there we

(01:06:49):
love gathering all theinformation and we all of you
out there we love gathering allthe information and we kind of
smile and you make us feel likea million bucks when you do so.
We wanted to take thisopportunity to thank you for
taking your time to write us.
We know, with everything goingon and I mean every time I turn
around, my phone's going off orsomething, and so thank you,

(01:07:09):
thank you, thank you.

Speaker 3 (01:07:11):
And just to let my mom know, you don't have to send
your emails to us.
You can just talk to me inperson when I see you.
Okay, you don't have to keepsending emails and things about
the show.

Speaker 2 (01:07:20):
But when she goes through fan mail and she's like
Michael, I need your help.
I'm joking, your mom is a hugefan, oh, a huge fan, and
probably is one of our firstcentral time listeners.
So, yes, so, thank you all toeverybody and we appreciate you.
And if there's something youwant us to talk about, as usual,

(01:07:43):
give us a jingle.
If you have been encounterswith car stories, we'd love to
hear it.
Send it in, and I'm not sureabout Kansas, but I guarantee
you it was 78 degrees here inMichigan today and it was a
great day for a bike ride, for abike ride.

Speaker 3 (01:07:57):
