A week of grief, noisy construction, and tech issues forces a candid look at how to keep promises when nothing goes to plan. We share three core tools—pivot, resolve, and resilience—and why showing up matters more than perfect conditions.

• mini format focused on setbacks and adaptation
• personal loss and limited time creating pressure
• construction noise and equipment failure blocking the usual setup
• choosing to pivot methods while keeping the commitment
• resolve as doing what you said you would do
• resilience as flexible strength under stress
• promise of a full episode on resolve later this week
• affirmation to honor self-worth and confidence

SPEAKER_00 (00:03):
Welcome to the Sage Solutions podcast, where we talk
about all things personalgrowth, personal development,
and becoming your best self.
My name is David Sage, and I'm aself-worth and confidence coach
with Sage Coaching Solutions.
Now you might notice thattoday's episode is a little

(00:25):
different than others.
That's because it's a miniepisode.
And because of a series ofcircumstances, which we'll talk
about in a second, I'm notrecording this in my usual
setup.
This is not my normalmicrophone.
I'm just recording this on myphone because that was what the

(00:47):
situation allowed for.
Today we're going to talk aboutsetbacks.
What happens when obstacles getin your way, when things don't
go according to plan?
How do you handle that?
Now this, like I said, is a miniepisode, so we're not going to

(01:10):
delve deeply into one specifictopic.
We're more just having a realconversation about what happens
when stuff just doesn't go yourway.
A lot of things in life havebeen extra tough in the last
chunk of time here.
I recently lost my stepfather,John Azzalina, who was an

(01:32):
important guest on this podcast.
Just this last weekend we hadthe celebration of life, and up
until his passing, he needed alot of help with things, and I
was happy to be in a position tobe one of the people that was
able to step up and help withall of the things that he

(01:52):
needed.
The Pfiser Forum has picked backup, which is great because I
love working there, but it alsomeans that time has gotten a bit
more scarce.
None of the things I've talkedabout alone are enough to cause
this episode here to be what itis today.
At my apartment, the apartmentcomplex is great because they

(02:13):
are very on top of it when itcomes to keeping up the
facilities, maintenance, allkinds of things.
We have a great managementcompany.
But right now they're redoingthe siding and roofing and
soffits and fascia and guttersand all of the buildings around
us and currently on ourbuilding.

(02:35):
This has made it very hard torecord because there is constant
banging, and that has to bebalanced with the rest of life.
And frankly, I'm not willing tosubject you, my podcast
listeners, to constant bangingand grinding and things in the

(02:56):
background.
That is a type of irritationthat I'm not willing to put you
through.
When I tried recording, nothingI could do could block out the
sounds.
I then tried changing my wholesetup and recording at my mom's
house, and I could not get thelaptop to recognize my

(03:17):
microphone.
Sometimes things just don't gothe way that you want.
So here are the lessons fromwhat I've learned from today.
When things go wrong, pivot.
Adjust.
Adapt.
Be flexible.
Try and find other solutions.
Contemplate and dwell on thesituation or think about it or

(03:38):
let yourself have feelings aboutit when you need to later.
I'm not trying to make a blackand white statement here.
I am in a situation where thereis a deadline and a commitment
and time pressure, which is verydifferent than situations where
those things aren't majorfactors.
When I hit that point where Irealized that life has been so

(04:02):
busy and it was completelyunfeasible for me to record on
my microphone and give you thequality, the voice quality that
you're used to, I had to make adecision.
I could have crumpled, gottenreally upset, folded, and
decided I'm just going to skipthis week, put out some sort of
a post.
But that's not how resolveworks.

(04:24):
You see, I made a commitment.
I made a decision, and with thatdecision, I made a commitment.
And therefore, I have a feelingof resolve that I rely on.
A resolve to do what I said Iwas going to do, to have
integrity.

(04:45):
Because this podcast isimportant to me.
It's important to me that I showup when I say I'm going to show
up for you.
So when things don't go yourway, there's three lessons I
want to bring up here.
First, pivot.
Adapt.
Adjust.
Be flexible.

(05:06):
Figure out another way.
Number two, don't fold.
Stick to your resolve.
Do what you said you were goingto do.
Have integrity.
Even if things aren't going toend up being perfect.
And then number three, developresilience.

(05:28):
Resilience is what allows you tohandle that change, to weather
it, to be like water, to beflexible or rigid when it is
required.
To handle the obstacles in yourway.
To adapt to change.
To adapt to life.
Now I will end up doing podcastson all of these topics.

(05:53):
In fact, my next podcast, whichwill be coming out sometime this
week, and will be a nicefull-length episode, not a mini
one like this, will be onresolve.
Thanks for listening, andremember, you are enough, and
you deserve to fill up yourinner cup with happiness, true

(06:14):
confidence, and resilience.
Thank you for listening to theSage Solutions podcast.
Your time is valuable, and I'mso glad you choose to learn and
grow here with me.
If you haven't already, don'tforget to subscribe so you don't
miss out on more Sage advice.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
