In this episode, I'm diving into one of my favorite topics - summer desserts with no sugar added! Now, before you walk away thinking "boring health food," let me tell you - I got my husband Ric completely off sugar with these recipes, and if he can love them, so can you! I'll be honest with you - I'm not a natural baker. I'm much more of an intuitive cook who loves to play around in the kitchen. But baking? That requires precision and measuring, which isn't exactly my strong suit! However, through my macrobiotic learnings, I discovered we absolutely CAN have our sweets - we just don't need the sugar. In this episode, I'm breaking down all the components of healthier dessert making: Alternative flours (almond, coconut, brown rice - perfect for my gluten-free friends!) Plant-based milks and oils Natural sweeteners like maple syrup, brown rice syrup, agave, dates, and even applesauce Creative substitutions like flax eggs and sugar-free chocolate chips I'm sharing two of my go-to recipes that you can make your own: Almond Butter Rice Crispy Treats and a versatile Basic Almond Cookie that you can jazz up however your heart desires - lemon, peanut butter, you name it! Next time, we're diving into appetizers and finger foods - perfect for summer gatherings! Remember, this is Earth School, and the lesson is love. Life is full of cookies and Rice Krispy treats, so let's make them the healthiest versions possible! 💕

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
