Does your self-care routine ever feel like one more obligation?
In this episode of SelfKind — a podcast for the highly sensitive and/or neurodivergent person — I, host Erica Webb, share a personal story about following a rigid meditation practice (that I actually signed a contract to commit to!). The 'discipline' of this practice ultimately felt unkind and unsuited to my unique needs and in this episode I'm sharing why it's ok to break the rules around self-care to find practices that actually resource you.
🎙️ What You’ll Hear
➡️ How rule-based “care” can morph into self-criticism
➡️ Why discipline and being sensitive have a complicated relationship
➡️ A simple litmus test: Is this practice filling your cup or emptying it?
➡️ Why you might want to tailor any routine (movement, journalling, quiet time, etc.) to your unique rhythms and not a cookie cutter approach
➡️ A gentle question to swap “should” for genuine support
⭐️ About your host, Erica Webb:
Erica Webb is a registered counsellor, somatic exercise coach and highly sensitive person who also happens to be diagnosed AuDHD (Autistic and ADHD). She supports other highly sensitive and neurodivergent people to discover their sensitivity superpowers and more confidently navigate the tricky bits of being a sensitive person in an often insensitive world.
🎙️ About the Podcast, SelfKind:
This is a podcast for Highly Sensitive People (HSP) and those who are neurodivergent. Here, we're all about being, living and moving through a lens of self-compassion and kindness.
As your host, I meet you as a fellow HSP and AuDHDer. I know what it's like to feel like things are too loud, too bright and just ... too much. In my work as a registered counsellor and mindful movement coach, I've supported myself and my clients to find ways to embrace their sensitivity that centre on self-compassion, nervous system regulation, self-awareness and, ultimately, self-love.
From mindfulness, mindful movement, joy seeking and a zillion and one practices in between, here you'll find space to be fully you – fully human – and the tools to navigate the tricky bits of having a highly sensitive nervous system.
I’m thrilled you’re here.
