(00:00):
welcome to the Seven FigureBuilder Show.
My name is Julie Barick, founderof Seven Figure Builder, where
we help high achieving CEOs freeup time with gorgeous analytics
to know exactly what's workingand not working in their
business to scale to sevenfigures and beyond.
And today I'm here with myfriend Dr.
LJ Johnson.
Hey lj, how are you?
Hey, I'm good.
How are you?
I'm excited.
Hi.
I am fabulous.
Thank you, and I am thrilled tohave you on today.
(00:22):
So for anyone that hasn't hadthe pleasure to meet you yet,
can you tell us just a littlebit about what you do with your
business?
Yeah, so I am the holistic endoexpert.
I specialize in everything, women's health specifically when
it comes to all the not so sexystuff.
So end fertility, endometriosis,T C O S, fibroids, hormonal
imbalances.
If you're listening to thispodcast and you're a female, you
know all about those hormonalimbalances.
(00:43):
So I kind of take all the unsexystuff, put a bunch of tools in
your toolbox, and then put youinto your sexy so that you can
show up and show out in life.
I love that.
I love that.
So lots of women out there knowthey struggle with this issue.
For those that don't know thatthey struggle, but think, maybe
I've heard of this.
You know, how do people know ifthis is something that they
might be struggling with?
Right?
Let's, let's just think head totoe, right?
(01:04):
If you got a uterus, if you havea womb, there's typically gonna
be some imbalances.
But let's talk about our six andseven figure earners, right?
There are things that you needto do.
You've gotta show up in yourbusiness.
You're hiring, you're firing,you're scaling, you're
presenting, you're doingsummits, all the good things.
But let's talk about when thehormones are not balanced.
Let's talk about that brain fogwhen you're doing those
presentations and you're like,who am I?
What am I, what am I talkingabout?
(01:25):
You know?
Or the imposter syndrome thathits you 10 minutes before and
you're like, Am I even qualifiedto talk about this?
Like, and, and who, who's, youknow, so all of those things,
right?
So we're talking about brainfog, um, you know, memory
issues.
You can have flaring up of theskin and not just the cute acne
we're talking about that acne, that the pimple patch and
Curology doesn't help the acne, where you're like, I gotta get
(01:45):
to the dermatologist.
I gotta be camera ready in fourdays, and I got.
Something going on with my skin.
You can have rashes, itching, eczema, um, you know, sometimes
you can have painful periods, painful menstruation, not
necessarily all the time.
You can have a hormonalimbalance and you know, your
period health be perfectly fine.
You could have, you know, lotsof bloating, digestive issues.
Sometimes also just that feelingof where you're like, I just
(02:07):
don't feel right.
You're like, I'm looking at theperson in the mirror.
She's sang and doing things thatI don't really know why she's
doing these.
Things, I don't know where thisis coming from.
Um, so it brings in a lot ofmental health stuff as well.
And just that overall feeling ofmalice where you're like,
something is not right.
I'm not quite sure what it is.
You know, I've talked to mydoctor.
He said my blood work is fine, but I feel anything but fine.
(02:29):
Those are just a couple of thehigh notes when it comes to
hormonal imbalances.
Absolutely.
And you know, I, I may behearing this and think that's
me.
What do I do about it?
Like, I've struggled with thiswhole, my, my whole life.
I just deal with it, right?
Is there something I can do?
Right?
There's lots of some thingssright now.
We can be here five hourstalking about all the, some
things you can do, right?
So one thing I will say isoptimizing your cycle.
(02:51):
If you have a cycle, let's behonest, there are times that
we're just like, oh gosh, herecomes my period.
I'm not gonna be able to showup.
Or, oh, here comes the pain.
You know, I won't be able totake care of the family, the
kids, or show up in my business.
And so the biggest thing I tellpeople is rather than fighting
with our cycle, fighting againstour hormones, you know, always
being at war with our body, thispushing and pulling to kind of
sit back and be like, Hey.
(03:12):
I am now going to turn my cycleinto my superpower.
And so we are gonna attach afreebie where you can grab that
freebie and it talks to youabout how to cycle sync, how to
optimize your cycle.
And so for business owners, thatis knowing like, Hey, when my
cycle starts, you know, that'sprobably the time that I'm gonna
be more of an introvert.
I'm gonna sit back in mybusiness and look and see what
systems are working, what's notworking, is it time to hire
(03:34):
fire?
We talked a little bit aboutthat before we hopped on this
morning.
So, you know, you have to kindof look at your business and
then there's gonna be those.
Times where your estrogen andyour progesterone, they are
showing up and showing out, andyou're like, this is the time,
right?
This is when you wanna do allthat content management.
You wanna do those 15 tos andreels and all that pointing and
dancing and all that fun stuff.
You're feeling more outgoing.
(03:55):
And so a lot of the times webeat ourselves up when we don't
wanna be outgoing or we're justmore like, we wanna chill, we
don't wanna do all these things.
We're just like, oh, you know,I'm a bad person and this is the
thing.
You are not a bad person.
What it is, is you're notoptimizing your cycle.
You're fighting against yourcycle rather than turning it
into your superpower.
So that is one thing you can do.
The other thing you can do is aswe're showing up in our
(04:17):
business, when we think abouthormonal imbalances, we're
always like, what's anothersupplement?
A juice, a detox, a cleanse?
Let's keep it basic.
Many of you are listening tothis right now.
Maybe it's in the evening, you've packed a lunch for your
kids dinner, all this.
You were on Pinterest findingthe perfect snacks and all this.
It's six o'clock at night.
You've probably had two ouncesof water, five cups of coffee,
(04:38):
and haven't ate all day.
Right?
So those types of things messwith your blood sugar.
Those don't allow you to show upand show out and be your best
self.
So being able to bring in those.
Whole process.
You know, whole foods cuttingback on the processed foods,
optimizing your cycle.
And then the biggest thing whenit comes to, um, you know,
hormonal imbalances and whenyou're running a business is
being able to manage stress,right?
(04:59):
And stress shows up in so manydifferent ways.
A lot of the times we think ofstress as a external, right?
Like having an employee issue ornot meeting our goals, or having
to get our taxes ready.
You know, the stuff we don'tenjoy doing.
But sometimes there can be thatinternal stressor, right, of
that imposter syndrome, depression, anxiety, and all of
the other things that come withrunning a business.
(05:20):
So those would be a few of thetips I would give just to get
someone started.
I love that and I, I'll speakfor myself as a woman, but you
know, we go through our wholelives and we, we don't, uh, we
feel powerless so often, right?
Like, this just happens to youevery month and you just get
through it every single month.
Mm-hmm.
And, you know, I don't know thatI've ever heard anybody talk
about optimizing their cycle.
(05:41):
So I find that very intriguing, and I plan to get your free
download, which we will havedown below, but to be able to
take that and really empoweryourself and not be so hard on
yourself.
And be able to really sync up atwhat times are most productive.
You know, what times of themonth are most productive.
Like usually, and again, I'llspeak for myself, but you just
feel these slumps and you don'thave any idea why, or you know,
(06:04):
how you can actually dosomething and you know, you feel
so powerless.
So I think that's reallyincredible.
Absolutely, and I, I've beenthere too.
I mean, not only just dealingwith hormonal imbalances, but
managing chronic illnesses.
And so for me personally, ittook 16 years to be properly
diagnosed with endometriosis.
So I had all these ups and downsof hormones, you know, the life,
getting married, pregnant, youknow, getting divorced, all of
(06:26):
these things and this chronicillness running rampant
throughout my entire body, whichI had no idea what was going on
with so many of you as well, right?
You're having the hormonalimbalances, you're dealing with
that.
But you're also managing thesechronic illnesses.
And so it's really about havinga toolbox that's gonna allow you
to show up and show out, whichis my thing.
Right.
But then also being able to knowwhen to sit back and to rest.
(06:47):
Right.
And not always being in thatfight or flight.
Mm-hmm.
Totally.
So when we think about thetriggers of what could be
telling us that we're havingthese issues, would infertility
be one of those, um, key pointsthat could indicate a hormonal
imbalance?
Absolutely.
And the biggest thing, I wasjust speaking at a conference
and we were speaking ofinfertility and the hugest thing
is, is that when you go to yourdoctor and you're having
(07:09):
fertility challenges or you havea diagnosis, we get this thing
in our mind of where we're like,we have to hurry up and get
pregnant.
Before something goes wrong, wegotta hurry up and do this
before the hysterectomy.
And what we really need to do iskind of, I know that we wanna be
a parent, and I know that thatis a burning desire, but we have
to kind of stay, take a stepbackwards and make sure that our
hormones are balanced becausethis is the thing when you're in
pregnancy, I.
(07:30):
Baby is shopping for mom'sstore.
And I think that is somethingthat a lot of people don't think
of, right?
We see the YouTube videos or youknow, our TikTok where the
person's like, I got pregnant, all my teeth fell out, this,
that, and the other.
This is why, right?
And it, it's kind of funny.
But then on the other hand, it'slike, this is why, because you
started the fertility journeyand you were nutrient deficient,
right?
You were maybe were dealing witha toxic overload.
(07:51):
And so a lot of times when thereis infertility, We want the
quick fix, right?
We wanna do I V F, and I thinkall of those things are amazing,
but we have to kind of circleback, look at our detox
pathways, make sure we'reactually hyper nourishing our
body, and that our hormones arebalanced.
And especially when you'redealing with, you know,
miscarriages and differentthings like that, especially
multiple miscarriages or havingtrouble conceiving.
(08:11):
There's usually a hugeconnection with your hormones.
But the other big thing that Ithink we forget about is toxins,
right?
All the toxins that we're takinginto our body, may it be through
pharmaceuticals, makeups, youknow, cleaning products,
whatever, and then not having away to pre push those toxins
out.
Yeah.
Yeah, and I, I'll be fullytransparent as well, but I had
fertility issues between myfirst and my second and, excuse
(08:35):
me, I had fertility issuesbetween my first and my second,
and I just took a break andsaid, you know what?
Let me focus on myself to thatpoint to get myself to a
healthier place, lost a ton ofweight, and then became
pregnant.
So, you know, where.
Focusing on yourself canactually bring about those
things that you're looking forand have an impact on both your
health and get to those goals.
(08:56):
Right?
You, you're right, right?
Your health and your wealth.
And it's interesting, like Isaid, we wanna wear the cape and
we show up for everyone, butthen when we have to show up for
ourself, we feel bad.
Or we're like, oh, you know, this two hours I'm spending on
myself and self-care.
I could be doing this, that, andthe other for my business.
And, but it's like, here's thething.
How are you gonna pour from anempty cup, right?
How are you going to move tothat next level in your business
(09:17):
and your fertility journey ifyou weren't able to nourish your
body and then show up?
Yeah, for sure.
So speaking of nourishment, youmentioned about blood sugars.
So we see all these things, lines of like, yes, you know,
starving yourself and eatingprotein and don't eat this and
all this.
Like what do you recommend?
What is the truth out there?
So when it comes to blood sugar,I like to go back to hyper
(09:38):
nourishing.
Your body.
Everyone's body is different.
Now let's just talk about zerodiagnosises.
You're just like, Hey lj, youjust called me out.
It's seven o'clock at night.
Six o'clock I haven't had anyfood.
Here's the thing, your bodyrequires.
Food and water, period pointblank.
If you're fasting, whatever youhave going on, you need to make
sure that you're getting in allyour nutrients.
(09:58):
And I think what happens is asan entrepreneur, we get up with
these to-do lists, right?
We've gotta show up and do this,we've gotta do that.
We've gotta be present here.
And so we put our nutrition andour health on the back burner.
Until we have a diagnosis,right?
Then your doctor's like, Hey,you're insulin resistant.
You got P C O S.
Oh, your thyroid's not working.
And then we're like, oh, that'sweird.
You know?
So it's like thinking about itand being proactive, making sure
(10:21):
you're getting in Whole Foodsright now.
I know sometimes we gotta bringin the processed foods cuz we're
on the go.
But the more whole foods you canbring in is.
The best.
Right.
Also for females, we have toleave this scarcity mindset of
we don't eat fat because wedon't wanna be fat.
Right.
And maybe I'm just callingmyself out cuz I was there, as
you know, traveling the worldtelling everyone like, we're
gonna eat fat-free saltines.
(10:42):
And I always laugh when I saythat because even if you look at
regular saltines, I'm not sayingthat's gonna help you.
There's no fat in saltines.
So why we felt the need to eatfat-free saltines, I will never
know, right?
But it was that scarcity mindsetof I wanna be lean and mean and
showing up.
But it's like get off theprocessed foods, bring in the
whole foods, and bring in thehealthy fats.
(11:02):
The fats are not going to be thereason that you gain the belly
fat, that you gain the weight.
It's going to be the processedfoods, the sugars, and you'll
also be a lot more productive.
If your blood sugar is balanced,it's okay to maybe not have a
super early breakfast.
Maybe you have that caffeine cuzyou're like, I need that go-go
juice.
But you need to be bringing inthose carbs, the fat and the
proteins, and having that greatbalance to keep your sustainable
(11:25):
blood sugar.
Now I will piggyback on that alittle bit cuz I know as
entrepreneurs we spend a lot oftime sitting down, you know,
maybe you had a standing desk.
Maybe you have a treadmill desk.
But here's the thing, if you'restruggling with your weight, if
your blood sugar is always on arollercoaster, The weight is not
going to come off.
So I don't know who that's for,but I'm gonna say it again.
Coming from that scarcitymindset of restricting your
calories, not eating, you know, fasting and all of those things,
(11:47):
I think those can be veryhealing.
But overall, balancing yourblood sugar will make you a lot
more productive.
For sure.
And as we're going through theday, you know, we may be fine
all day and then get to theevening and we've completely run
outta willpower and just findourselves stress eating.
Like what do you recommend forthat?
So it goes back to the bloodsugar.
If you are hyper nourishing yourbody and bringing those
(12:08):
nutrients in, when you get tothe end of the day at seven
o'clock, you won't be bingeeating.
And that's typically whathappens when we are doing the
scarcity of, you know, the oldmindset of, you know, six meals
a day to rev up your metabolism.
That was all fine and great, right?
Until it's.
Stop working for me and I'mlike, I can't keep traveling the
world telling people to eatchicken and broccoli cuz it's
maybe helping with weight loss.
But it definitely wasn'tbalancing my hormones right.
(12:29):
I had horribly painful periods Iwas passing out during my cycle,
hot flashes, all the things sothat that myth we had to put on
the table.
So what you really have to do isbring the nutrient in and stay
consistent with it.
I think it's a huge consistencyissue that usually kind of
throws us off and just kind ofpushes us in the wrong
direction.
Yeah, no, that makes a lot ofsense.
(12:50):
And back to the self-care andnot letting yourself get
stressed out constantlythroughout the day.
And like I said, that will powerand I'll speak for myself.
You get to the evening, no, Imean, it's, it's stressful.
And even for myself, I'll be ahundred percent honest,
yesterday I was going, going,going, I typically don't work
till seven 30 or eight.
But it was one of those nightswhere I had some patients that
needed some things and then Ihad a se, a seminar I was
teaching.
(13:11):
So throughout the day, I had tokind of force myself to make
sure I got in my, you know, detox smoothie and this, that,
and the other, because if not,it would've been eight o'clock
at night, which there's nothingwrong with that.
But on a consistent basis, if Idon't get those things in, then
my energy is gonna startreflecting that, right?
The blood sugar's gonna becomeunstable, and especially if
you're dealing with like the hotflashes and all these other
hormonal issues.
(13:32):
The blood sugar is superimportant.
Mm-hmm.
And how would you say exerciseplays into all of that?
Like what is the best exercisethat you can do?
The best exercise.
Here's the thing.
The one that you'll do, period0.1.
The one, you're consistent,right?
Because if I said right nowlike, I'm gonna hop off here and
I'm gonna cycle for a fewminutes and then I'm gonna teach
another class.
Here's the thing, if you don'tenjoy it, you won't stay
(13:54):
consistent.
Start small.
This is the biggest thing, andmaybe I'm gonna call myself out.
I can't be the only one in theirforties.
I am 43 years old and I'll keepit 100.
I've been a certified personaltrainer, group fitness
instructor since the age of 17.
I know fitness, but here's thething, I have to be consistent.
I also have to realize thatthose tuck jumps and those high
(14:14):
knees and all that fun stuff Idid in my twenties, baby, that's
not gonna work for me right now, period.
Right?
There's nothing wrong with mybody, nothing wrong with my
knees, but all that high impactand all the stuff I was doing,
it doesn't work for me now.
So I don't set myself up for,you know, failure saying, oh,
today I'm gonna do, you know, two p nine ex videos.
I'm not.
Period.
I'm not gonna do it.
(14:35):
Number one, it's overexercising.
My body probably will just leaveme inflamed, leave me in pain,
and then I won't be consistent.
So the best exercise issomething that you will be
consistent with.
Put away all of the, um,misconceptions, you know,
beating yourself up of, oh, I,when I used to go to the gym,
I'd run 10 miles.
Why would you go try to run 10miles yesterday or tomorrow, or
(14:55):
any day?
When you haven't been evenwalking for 20 minutes.
So find something small and thenhave it stack once again.
I think sometimes we take thatsuper aggressive mindset that we
use in our business and we tryto apply to everything, and
sometimes it just kind of worksagainst us.
Yeah, and then it's just setsetting yourself up for failure,
which nobody wants.
Right.
So looking over your career andalso your health journey, right?
(15:19):
Sounds like they've beenobviously running in parallel.
Yes.
But how, how do you definesuccess?
What does that look like to you?
Success.
Success is where I'm at rightnow.
I remember when I couldn't showup when I was stuck on Mattress
Island.
I remember when I had to closemy private practice because I
got a diagnosis and I was like, what the heck am I gonna do now?
You know, I remember.
(15:40):
Not being able to show up as asingle parent and take my kids
to the park.
I remember having to call aneighbor, right?
The same neighbor that seen meon TV two days ago, giving five
tips to stay healthy.
That was the same neighbor I hadto call and be very humble and
be like, Hey, I'm in pain andI'm in a flare.
Can you come get my kids readyfor school?
So remembering all of that andbeing able to wake up today and
(16:01):
have the habits that I have, thehealth that I have.
Um, I love that you said yes, mycareer.
And my health and healingjourney is, it's, it's all one,
right?
I would not be where I am in mybusiness if I didn't get my
health where it needed to be orI, until I healed myself
naturally.
And then I get to work, walk inmy purpose and my passion.
Like this is what I love to do.
And for me, this is success.
(16:23):
I absolutely love that.
It's so powerful.
So for people that are hearingthis and they wanna work with
you, like, how do you helppeople?
How can they find you?
Yes, so ljs powerhouse.org willhave all the links.
We'll have the freed, um, I dofree discovery calls, so if
you're listening and you'relike, maybe she's onto
something, maybe you're like, Idon't have a hormone issue, I
just wanna be more productive inmy business.
Definitely click the link.
(16:43):
We can do the free discoverycall.
As of right now, I really onlyjust work on one-on-one
patients.
I don't do any small group justbecause I really like to
personalize it.
To get you to where you'regoing.
Right.
I'm working with highfunctioning, high, you know,
aspiring people, so I reallylike to zone in.
So I have one-on-one coaching.
I've got a couple differentpackages and we really just kind
of set it up to put you in thedriver's seat of your health.
(17:05):
We're, you know, habit stacking,we're doing nighttime routines,
we're doing some functionaltesting.
Cuz I think a lot of the times, especially as an entrepreneur,
we have all these goals andeverything for our health or for
our business, but we kind ofpush the health behind.
And I would just say that if youare in a spot.
Where your business is notmoving forward, you're not
seeing the result.
You feel like you're doing allthe work, or you have this
(17:27):
health issue that you were justkind of wanting to put on the
back burner.
I'm telling you right now, ifyou get your health where you
need to be, it'll better helpyou show up in your business.
Absolutely.
And without your health, youhave nothing.
So it's absolutely, it's soimportant.
And so often we don't thinkabout it until it's pushed at
the forefront of our everysingle day and it's like, okay,
I need to listen.
I need to do something.
But you're so much better off, wait, not waiting to have that
(17:50):
pushed in front of you andtaking care of it yourself.
So I love that.
Yes.
We gotta be proactive.
We just gotta be proactive.
Totally.
Totally.
So if you had the attention ofthe whole world for five
minutes, what would you say tothem?
That you're deserving of health.
No matter what your diagnosis,no matter what is going on, you
are deserving of health.
(18:10):
You just have to realize thatyour health is going to look
different than everyone aroundyou.
So powerful.
So you mentioned your websites,we'll have them down below, but
how can listeners support you inyour work?
Yeah, I would love for you to, Ihave a podcast as well, the

Go over there, you can listen upand learn.
Um, I spend a lot of time onInstagram, so if you see a post
(18:33):

I mean, the business, everythingwill line up if you're just
showing up and being present andraising that awareness.
For sure, for sure.
So we'll have all the linksbelow and people should
definitely come check you out.
And if you found value in thisepisode, please do share it.
That's how people find us.
And you can findme@sevenfigurebuilder.com.
(18:55):
And thank you Dr.
LJ, for being on today.
This was awesome.
Thank you, Julie.
Absolutely.
