Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, beautiful people , it's the one and only Tone
Motivates.
Back with another episode ofShades of Tone, and today I want
to talk about the art ofsetting intentions.
So I used to set New Year'sresolutions every January and by
February March most of them hadfizzled out and I realized I
was chasing goals without reallyunderstanding why they mattered

(00:23):
to me.
That's when I discovered thepower of setting intentions.
Today, we're talking about theart of setting intentions, not
just to achieve goals, but tolive a more purposeful and
authentic life.
We'll explore how intentionsguide us toward living in
alignment with who we truly areand what we value most.

(00:43):
In alignment with who we trulyare and what we value most.
Why it matters, you ask.
Intentions are different fromgoals.
Goals are about what you wantto do, but intentions are about
how you want to be.
They shape the energy and focusyou bring to your everyday life
, helping you live with morepurpose and authenticity.
What are intentions?

(01:05):
Let's define that.
Intentions are guidingprinciples for how you want to
live.
They come from your values andare deeply connected to your
inner self.
While goals are outcomeoriented or driven like I want
to lose 10 pounds, intentionsare about your mindset and
approach like I want to nurturemy body and feel healthy the

(01:28):
difference between intentionsand goals.
Goals are important, butwithout intention, they can feel
empty or disconnected from whattruly matters to you.
Goals are about doing.
Doing.

(01:50):
Intentions are about being.
For me, setting the intentionto practice self-compassion
changed the way I approach mywork.
Instead of beating myself upover every mistake, I began
treating myself with morekindness and it shifted the
whole energy of how I worked.
Reflect on your own experience.
Think about a goal you've setin the past.
Did it feel meaningful or didit feel like something you
should do?
What would have been differentif you had set an intention

(02:12):
behind that goal?
Let's chat about how intentionscreate a more purposeful life.
So, for one, you're living withpurpose.
When you set intentions, youcreate a clear focus for how you
want to show up in the world, instead of going through life on
autopilot.
You're consciously choosing howyou respond to situations, how

(02:34):
you treat yourself and others, and what you prioritize.
Second, aligning intentions withyour values.
Intentions are rooted in yourvalues.
When you live in alignment withyour values, life feels more
purposeful and authentic becauseyou're living accordingly to
what truly matters to you.
I once set the intention toprioritize solitude, because I

(02:59):
realized that some of myrelationships were often a
distraction and simply that byholding that intention, I
started putting distance betweensome of my relationships and
being more present when I wasalone, instead of feeling
boredom with anything or anyone.
Reflect on your value.
What are your core values?
Think about the things thatmatter to you most, whether it's

(03:23):
kindness, creativity, growth orconnection.
How can you set intentions thatalign with those values?
The power of setting intentionsfor authentic living,
authenticity and intentions.
When you set intentions, you'renot just following external
expectations or doing what youthink others think you should do

(03:44):
.
You're tuning into your innervoice and living in alignment
with what you truly are.
This is the essence of livingauthentically Breaking free from
external pressures Withoutintentions.
It's easy to get caught updoing things because we think we
should.
Setting intentions help usbreak free from those pressures

(04:08):
and live a life that feels trueto us.
I, for one, used to always sayyes to everything because I
didn't want to disappoint anyoneand I felt like I should treat
others how I wanted to betreated, but it left me feeling
drained and disconnected frommyself, and I never got the same
expectations back.
I learned to say yes only whenit felt right.

(04:29):
And when I set the intention tohonor my boundaries, I started
saying no more often andchoosing commitments that felt
aligned with my energy andvalues, instead of expecting,
because I did something to getsomething back.
I would like you to reflect onhow living with intention could

(04:50):
bring more authenticity to yourlife.
Are there areas of your lifewhere you feel like you're just
going through the motions orfollowing what others expect?
How would it feel to set anintention that honors your true
self, an intention that honorsyour true self?
I'll give you some tips on howto set powerful and meaningful
intentions.
Step one tune into your innerself.

(05:11):
The first step in settingmeaningful intentions is to tune
into your inner self.
Take time to reflect on whattruly matters to you, what
brings you joy, fulfillment anda sense of peace.
This is where your intentionsshould come from.
Step 2.
Be present and specificIntentions are most powerful

(05:31):
when they're rooted in thepresent moment.
Instead of focusing on futureoutcomes, think about how you
want to feel or be today.
For example, I want to be kindto myself today, or I intend to
stay grounded in gratitude.
Step three keep it positive.
Frame your intentions in apositive way, instead of saying

(05:54):
I won't stress out today, try Iwill stay calm and centered
throughout the day.
Positive language reinforcesthe energy you want to bring
into your life.
Step 4.
Revisit and reflect.
Intentions aren't one and done.
There is something you canrevisit daily, weekly or monthly

(06:15):
to check in with how you'reliving.
Reflection helps you stayconnected to your and adjust
them as needed.
I encourage you to set a small, meaningful intention for the
week.
What's one small intention youcan set for yourself this week?
Maybe it's I will prioritizeself-care, or I will listen more

(06:37):
deeply to those around me.
Take a moment to tune in andwrite it down.
Daily practices to reinforceyour intentions Morning rituals
One of the best ways to stayconnected to your intentions is
to start your day off with amorning ritual.
Before you dive into your to-dolist, take a few minutes to set

(07:00):
an intention for the day.
It could be as simple as today.
I will approach my work withpatience, or I intend to
practice gratitude for what Ihave.
Next is mindfulness andmeditation.
Mindfulness practices can alsohelp you stay connected to your
intentions, whether it's throughmeditation, deep breathing or

(07:21):
mindful movement.
Taking time to be present helpsyou tune into your intentions
and bring them into your dailylife.
Journaling Y'all know how I feelabout that.
Journaling is a powerful toolfor reflecting on your
intentions At the end of the day.
Take a few minutes to writeabout how your day aligned with
your intention.
What went well?

(07:42):
Where did you struggle?
What can you adjust fortomorrow?
For me, taking five minuteseach morning to set my attention
has completely changed how Iapproach my day.
Instead of feeling rushed orscattered, I feel more focused
and aligned with what trulymatters, and when I'm slipping,
an app on my phone called Bench,it gets me right back on track.

(08:05):
This week, experiment withsetting a daily intention
through a morning ritual, mindfulness practice or
journaling.
See how it shifts your energyand focus throughout the day
Living your intentions.
Long term.
Consistency over perfection,consistency over Perfection.

(08:26):
Setting intentions isn't aboutbeing perfect.
It's about consistency.
You're not always going to liveup to your intentions perfectly
, and that's okay.
What matters is that you'remaking the effort to live with
purpose and alignment, adaptingto Change.
As you grow and evolve, so willyour intentions.
Your values may shift, yourpriorities may change, and

(08:50):
that's a natural part of thejourney.
Be open to adjusting yourintentions as you learn more
about yourself.
When I first started settingintentions, they were mostly
about self-care and stressmanagement.
When I first started settingintentions, they were mostly
about self-care and stressmanagement, but as I've grown,
I've shifted to intentions thatfocus more on building

(09:12):
meaningful connections andfostering creativity.
Your intentions evolve with you.
Reflect on how you can stayconnected to your intentions
long-term.
What's one intention you'd liketo carry with you for the
long-term?
How can you make it aconsistent part of your life,
even as you grow?
Today, we've explored the art ofsetting intentions and how they

(09:34):
can help you live a morepurposeful and authentic life.
We've learned the differencebetween goals and intentions,

them through daily practices.
Remember intentions are yourcompass for how you want to show

(09:56):
up in the world.
They help you align with yourvalues, live authentically and
bring more purpose to youreveryday life.
Your intentions are areflection of your true self.
By setting them with care andstaying connected to them, you
create a life that feels morealigned with who you are and
what you truly want.
