Speaker 1 (00:05):
Hey Motives, welcome back to Shades of Tone, where we
are fitness for the mind andexploring mental wellness
practices.
From the words ofEmbraceHealthcom, taking care of
your mental health is an act ofself-love.

(00:28):
So here at Shades of Tone, weflex our self-reflection muscles
and stretch into deeper truths.
I'm Tone Motivates.
And today we're not talkingabout biceps or burpees.
No, no, no, baby.
We're diving into mentalfitness.

(00:51):
That's right.
Just like the body needsexercise, our mind craves it too
.
But before you start packingyour mental gym bag, let's
explore what fitness for themind is all about.
Think about mind lifting weightsA metaphor for heavy breathing.

(01:14):
So the mental gym.
What is it?
So picture this you walk into amental gym.
What do you see?
Maybe some yoga mats formindfulness, a weight room full
of challenges to strengthenresilience, and perhaps a cool
down corner for self-compassionor Zen.

(01:50):
It's about building habits thathelp our minds stay strong,
flexible and ready for whateverlife throws at us.
So should I warm up my brainwith the crossword?
Now, that's up to you.
Sidebar, neuroplasticity is thebrain's ability to adapt and
grow and is the key to mentalfitness.
This is why it's important toconsistently feed it and

(02:11):
strengthen it.
Did you know, learningsomething new can build mental
muscles, just like lifting aweight for the first time makes
your arms sore but stronger.
This is why crosswords, sudokupuzzles, solitaire, math games,

(02:36):
checkers and chess or any kindof memory game improve your
brain, focus and IQ.
So for mental workouts, I knowyou're wondering what are these
workouts for the mind?
Am I going to need a personaltrainer for my thoughts?
Not quite, but I've got a fewquirky mental fitness routines

(03:00):
that will make this journey bothfun and enlightening.
One mindfulness pushups.
Okay, don't worry, no pushupsrequired, but mindfulness is
like a pushup for your brain.
It strengthens your ability tofocus, be present and calm your

(03:23):
thoughts.
So try this Next time you havecoffee or tea sit with it for
one minute 60 seconds, justnotice the temperature, smell
and taste and boom.
One mindfulness push-up donethe Gratitude Stretch.

(03:47):
Gratitude is like stretchingfor the soul.
It opens you up and makes youmore flexible in seeing the good
, even in tough situations.
Every night, try stretchingyour mind with a gratitude
practice.
Name three things you'rethankful for.
It's like yoga, but without themat.

(04:11):
Now let's chat about negativethoughts Boxing.
Now, this is my favorite one, because everybody has negative
thoughts in some way.
Right.
So you have a negative thought, let's put on those mental
boxing gloves and challenge it.
Cognitive behavioral therapy,or CBT, teaches us that we can

(04:35):
counter negative thoughts withmore realistic ones, like
sparring with a bad thoughtuntil you get the upper hand,
say, oh, I'm not good enough.
Boom, boom, jab back with.
Actually, I've grown a lot andI am proud of myself.
Boxing bell sound Okay, ding, ding, ding, I win.

(04:56):
Now let's cool down with mentalrest.
After every workout comes thecool down.
And guess what?
Rest is just as important foryour mind as it is for your body
.
I'm talking about things likesleep, meditation or even just
unplugging from social media.

(05:17):
Or even just unplugging fromsocial media.
Mental rest is the place whereall that mental muscle you've
been building gets to grow.
So take that break.
Your mind deserves a bubblebath, so to speak.
Many of us skip the mentalstretch and it's the reason our
minds are so sore with burnout.

(05:39):
So what's your mental workoutplan this week?
Maybe some mindfulness pushups, gratitude stretching or a good
old mental boxing session.
Remember, just like withphysical fitness, mental
wellness takes time, consistencyand a little bit of fun.

(06:01):
Don't be afraid to experiment, challenge yourself and, yes,
take those breaks too.
Thanks for tuning in to Shadesof Tone, where we keep growing,
flexing and loving ourselves, one episode at a time.
Until next time, take care ofboth your mind and your body,

(06:27):
because you are worth theworkout, as always, always, love
.
