podcast or maybe this is justlike your third or fourth
episode, but you really enjoy itWould you be so kind to write a
review and post it on ApplePodcasts or Spotify or whatever
player you're listening on?
It would mean the world to meand I can't help think that it
(02:55):
tells these podcast players outthere to show this podcast to
more people like you, to helpthem pursue their business dream
and their podcast dream.
So if you would take like 30seconds y'all, it would mean the
world to me.
You can hit the five-starrating and then just write a
little blurb on what thispodcast has meant to you.
I would appreciate it so somuch.
So that's it.
(03:16):
Okay, on to the episode.
Well, hello friends.
How are you?
How is everything going in yourbusiness?
I'm dying to hear, I'm dying toknow what is going on, how
you're feeling, how yourconfidence levels are with your
(03:37):
business.
Like how confident are you witheverything that you're doing
with your business, and maybeyour podcast too?
Today, as you know, we'retalking about whether you should
start a podcast for yourbusiness, and I have three
questions that we're going to gothrough today because I think
it's so important, before youjump into anything in your
(03:58):
business, that you think itthrough.
So many new business owners getvery excited and overzealous
about the ways that they want toshow up and promote their
business.
Now, a lot of people do that.
There is the opposite problem.
Some people get their businessopen and they're scared to do
anything.
But I know, if you're thinkingabout starting a podcast, you've
(04:19):
probably got a lot of reasonswhy you want to start a podcast,
and maybe it's because you findvalue in podcasts like this one
and you're like that would be agood way.
I want to reach people thatlisten to podcasts and I think
it's awesome.
But what I want to prevent isyou just getting overexcited and
like I'm going to be impulsiveand I'm going to start a podcast
(04:40):
Because here's the deal y'all, anybody can start a podcast.
Now there are really simpleways off of your phone that you
can start a podcast and you'refree to do that.
But it's just like when youstart a business right, anybody
can start a business.
You can file a DBA online.
You can start a business rightnow and say I have a business,
(05:01):
but is it really strategic?
Are you really putting in thework now so that it's actually
successful and does what youwant it to do?
It's like when I had paintershere a while back and y'all, I'm
not good at painting, likerooms, like just painting.
There is so much prep work thatgoes involved If you want your
(05:23):
room to be beautiful with thepaint and not be the wrong color
and not go onto your molding orbe uneven somehow.
Like there's work and I noticedwhen I hired painters to come,
they do so much prep work withthe taping and everything and
(05:44):
then the painting parts actuallynot that much work, right, and
that's sort of similar to yourbusiness.
So I think there's things inour lives where we're like we
don't want to prep and thenthere's things that we do.
I have friends that do paintingand refinish furniture and do
things like that and they takevery good care of the situation
ahead of time before theyactually, you know, start
(06:09):
painting.
So I just want to make sure, with a podcast that y'all are
thinking this through, that youare justifying to yourself that
this is actually a good idea andit could lead to a bigger
audience and more sales for yourbusiness, because that's why
you're doing this.
You're also doing this toimpact lives.
(06:30):
So how do we do that?
How do we start a podcast thatactually grows your business
which is your audience and yoursales and impacts people's lives
?
Because, again, you can startany podcast as a hobby.
You could start five podcastsright now.
If you paint furniture, you canstart a painting furniture
(06:52):
podcast, like.
We can do all these things.
But here's the deal.
Many of you are super busy.
A lot of you have a full-timejob.
You're starting a business onthe side and you're wanting to
be smart about the time thatyou're spending on your business
, because you don't have all thetime in the world and you don't
want to take away family timeor other free time or personal
time, right?
You're wanting to do thisintelligently, but you also want
(07:14):
to do it.
If you're going to do it, youwant to make sure that you're
set up for success, right?
So that's why I'm so proud ofyou for being here today and
listening and actually takingthis seriously.
It's the same process, I believe, with a business.
Before you started yourbusiness, you had passions, you
have God-given gifts, but let'smake sure we do things right so
(07:35):
you're actually set up forsuccess.
So today is step one for you.
If you're here today, this isit.
I think you're gonna know bythe end of this.
I do have a free training thatyou can get.
There's a link below.
It's my 3 Secrets to Starting aBusiness Podcast and Reaching
Success like actually achievingsuccess with that and having it
(07:57):
actually grow your business andimpact people's lives.
So you can get the freetraining after this.
But I want you to go throughthis process right now in your
brain right now, with these 3things that I'm going to talk
through, because I think theyare massively important in your
decision, for your business andfor your life.
Okay, so we're going to start, and let me let me just say this
(08:19):
first of all, just so you'llknow where I'm coming from
starting a podcast has been thenumber one best business
decision I have made, and I madeit in the very beginning,
before I even started mybusiness.
Like, I made the decision tostart a podcast, and do you know
when this decision actuallystarted for me.
Well, it started in 2019 at noplace other than my kitchen
(08:44):
table, when I was bawling myeyes out, bawling at my kitchen
table, trying to figure out whatI was going to do with the rest
of my life in terms of a career.
My oldest daughter had been offto college for a year.
I started realizing, oh my gosh, my life's changing.
I'd had my online gift boutiquesfor 16 years.
One of them I'd been runningfor three years before that
(09:05):
locally, and I just was readyfor something different.
I could just feel have you everbeen in that position where you
just feel like something needsto be different in your life,
like you're not totallyfulfilled?
I loved the gift industry, Iloved having online boutiques,
but just something flipped in mybrain and I was like I need
something different.
I just you know how that issometimes Like when you need a
(09:30):
new bedspread or your roomdecorated, redecorated you're
like I need a refresh in here, like I need some new artwork,
and it doesn't even have to bethat drastic, but it's just
something like a new haircut.
You're like I need a newhaircut.
I need something to make mejust feel refreshed, revived,
more purposeful, putting my bestfoot forward, and I just I
wanted something more impactful.
I knew I had more to give.
(09:50):
I had thought about maybe goingback to technology sales, which
I love.
I loved working at DellComputers, it was so much fun.
But I have been out of theindustry of technology sales for
a long time y'all like 23 years.
So that's like putting me backin the golden, the old ages.
I don't even know Right.
(10:11):
So I was trying to figure outwhat I was going to do and I
kept thinking through all thisstuff and if you've taken my
best business idea workshop,I've talked about this if you're
trying to figure out your bestbusiness idea.
But I went through a wholeprocess and then I started
thinking I think public speakingmight be fun, maybe I could
motivate.
I just kept thinking I want tomotivate people, I want to
inspire people, I want to helpget them moving.
So I was looking at publicspeaking and then I went and sat
(10:34):
on my couch with an iPad and anad popped up and it said
kickstart your public speakingcareer with a podcast.
And I flipped out.
I was like I'm starting apodcast.
This is what I'm doing.
My kids were in the kitchen.
I ran in there and told themand they literally just stared
at me blankly like completeblank.
You could hear the crickets inthe background.
(10:54):
It was just nothing.
And I was like, this is it,this is what I'm doing.
So I did do that and then I waslike, okay, now here comes the
strategy part.
What am I doing, what am Iselling, what am I helping them
with?
And I was like, well, what haseveryone asked me about?
And I had gone through allthese this process Again.
That's in my Best Business Ideaworkshop if you need help with
that.
But I went through all that andI realized I should just help
(11:15):
people start their businesses.
That's what I get asked aboutall the time, and I had started
mine so long ago that peopleoften came to me for that
question like how to start abusiness online and all that
which I started my first one in2003, when Amazon was known for
books.
It's what Amazon was known forwhen I started.
So, anyways, I knew business, soI knew the importance of if I'm
(11:39):
going to do this podcast for mybusiness.
I knew all the things I neededto do.
So I had an advantage over alot of y'all who have never had
a business, and I knew exactlywhat I needed to set up.
I needed to get clear on mymessaging, clear on some type of
offer which I started withone-on-one coaching, but I was
even embarrassed in thebeginning to talk about it.
So I don't even think I talkedto.
I don't even know.
I don't want to go back to theearly episodes.
(11:59):
I don't know what I was sayingand where I was directing.
I do know that I was gettingpeople on my email list, so I
had a free download.
Like I knew the stuff to do,but I was just a little bit
shaky.
I'm like what am I actuallyselling?
But I did have a process forall that.
My point is I was strategicabout it and within I think it
was about a year I don't havethe exact date it had already
moved up to the top 1%.
(12:19):
It might be as long as 18months into it and I started in
2019.
So I knew the process.
So, if you are strategic that'smy point I had zero public
speaking experience.
I had zero fans, zero sales, zero Instagram followers, zero
Facebook group members, zeroeverything.
And my point is this can happenfor you if you do this
(12:41):
strategically and you do itright.
So today we're going to gothrough these three things.
I think they're the mostimportant to think about.
Do not pass, go and tell you,you say yes to all these three
things.
And then, after this, again thelink down below to my free
workshop, the Success Secretsfor a Business podcast, so that
you can actually grow yourbusiness and impact lives while
(13:01):
you're doing it.
And so we're going to gothrough these right now.
Okay, you're ready.
Okay, you might need to takenotes.
And so we're going to gothrough these right now.
Okay, you're ready.
Okay, you might need to takenotes, ready, okay, number one
do you need an audience?
Do you need an audience?
And some of you may be laughingat me, asking that, like, of
course I need an audience.
Like, what are you saying?
I'm going to tell you right now, from working with business
(13:26):
owners, some people are veryfortunate that they are getting
referrals, and it's usually aservice-based business or some
type of consultant.
They are getting so manyreferrals they're already booked
and they're booked all the timeand they will be booked for
years and I've seen it with myown eyes.
It's a real phenomenon.
There's no way that they wouldhave time to go build an
(13:47):
audience.
Nor would I recommend them togo build an audience with a
podcast when they are fullybooked right now and don't have
time.
They're still trying to figureout who they could hire to help
them.
They're trying to figure outways to like make it where they
don't have to do everything sothey can have more time.
But they should not have apodcast until they have all that
(14:09):
worked out and then they canbuild an online audience.
So you have to ask yourselftoday do I need an audience that
I attract online?
And if you do, then I want youto just kind of let's go down a
little bit deeper into this, doyou like?
Maybe social media?
Is that your gig?
Are you really good at it withreels and you know how to beat
the algorithm?
You know how to attract anaudience.
(14:30):
Social media could be a viablesolution for you.
Okay, and, by the way, I'mgoing to go through these just
real quick on this number onedifferent ways you can get an
audience.
I talk about it more in Episode276.
So that's another thing you cango to after this.
But do you need an audience andis social media an option for
you?
I personally am not good atsocial media and don't love it,
(14:53):
so I've never felt like my heartgo.
Oh my gosh.
Yes, I want to be on socialmedia.
That's how I'm going to grow myaudience.
I mean, I was not jumping forjoy for that.
Okay, I, kind of reluctantly amon social media.
I'm going to be very honest.
I do stuff, I post it.
People seem to think I'm on itall the time.
I'm not.
I'll just create a quick clipor something and I'll post it.
(15:15):
But you know I don't have a bigaudience on social media.
It doesn't mean that much to me.
It really doesn't, because it'snot the way that I'm.
I personally am good at gettingclients.
It's just not my way.
But if it is for you, thenmaybe social media is the route
for you.
If you need an online audienceand you love social media.
Another option you could doblogging, which blogging has
made a little bit of a comeback,but it's for someone who's
(15:37):
really good at writing and youthink your potential clients
love to read, and if that isyour niche, then great Blogging
could be a great option for you.
Another is to dive right intoads, which I would like social
ads, paying money for that?
I would not right now at all, because you don't have.
If you're new to business, youprobably don't have your
messaging down, you probablydon't know a lot of stuff that
(16:00):
that makes ads successful andyou may not have the budget or
the time to learn how to masterFacebook ads.
It is a huge undertaking.
I've taken a very expensivecourse on it.
I worked on it for a while.
I tested it.
I was not great at it.
I was not great at it.
I think I would have tooutsource that to someone else.
But I'm like you know what?
(16:20):
I'm getting business for mypodcast and at this minute I've
just put Facebook ads on hold.
It's on hold for me.
I think it would be very hardfor someone who has no
experience starting a businessand they're just starting and
they're like I'm going straightinto ads.
I think it'd be hard.
You'd have to get a really goodmentor or really good program
to help you and I've seen thatdone.
I have seen it done.
(16:41):
It's still hard because a lotof times, as a new business
owner does not have the wholeback end of their business set
up with people they've hired howtheir flow goes from the ads to
to leads to sales and again,I've seen it done.
But it's a lot, and a lot ofyou have full-time jobs and
you're very busy and I'm tellingyou it's hard.
(17:02):
I'm not going to lie to you.
I don't know anyone that saysFacebook ads is easy.
I don't know anyone that saysthat, okay, and the other choice
that you have.
So you have social media, blogging, facebook ads and all
that you can do YouTube, and Ithink YouTube is fantastic.
I think we do have to integrateit into our businesses.
I have started a YouTubechannel myself.
(17:23):
I'm not great at YouTube, butI'm starting and I'm integrating
things from this podcast and Ifeel like it's time.
I've been in my business for,you know, 5 years.
I started YouTube gosh, it waslast year, sometime in 2024.
And it's all good.
Like I'm learning that it'sgoing to take a while, but y'all
, podcasting has been the ticket.
(17:43):
It has been the ticket.
It fits into my life.
I can be in my pajamas, I canrecord any time.
It builds authority, it buildstrue connection.
Think about it right now, whenyou listen to podcasts, you've
got somebody in your ear for 20minutes, 30 minutes an hour for
some podcasts, three hours for, like the Joe Rogan podcast.
(18:04):
When in the world can I capturesomeone's attention like that?
Only with a podcast.
I could go on and on and onabout why I think podcasting is
so great, but if you are superbusy, especially if you have a
full-time job, podcasting isamazing.
It creates connection, as Isaid, and it helps you make
(18:24):
connections with people maybethat you want to interview and
things like that.
Okay, I won't go into thedepths of that, but my point is
do you need an audience?
And then you have options forways to build your audience
online.
If you want an online audience, okay, so I do need to clarify
it's an online audience.
You can do things locally.
It's a local audience, likepublic speaking and all that.
But, number one, do you need anonline audience?
(18:46):
Okay, and have you thoughtabout all your options?
Have you thought about youroptions?
Those are the options.
That's a quick overview of theoptions, okay.
Number two how much time do youhave?
Do you have a lot of time tolearn a massively complicated
skill like Facebook ads, reallygetting good on YouTube?
(19:11):
Maybe blogging could be good.
You just need to learn SEO.
But what do you have time for?
And I just want to tell you nowhow much time I spend on a
podcast per week.
Y'all, I don't spend any morethan 90 minutes, and this is
with me editing the episodes.
I have recently learned how toedit my own episode and I'm only
(19:34):
doing this because I have mybinge-worthy podcast Boot Camp
that teaches new business ownershow to start their podcast and
I give them the option of here.
Here's my editor you can useand you can have somebody edit
it for you, which I think is thesmartest thing to do in the
beginning, or you can do ityourself.
It will take time to learn, ontop of learning how to podcast.
(19:56):
So it's not my first choice fory'all, but once you've had it
edited a while, I think you canswitch over if you want to save
money to do it yourself.
So I've been learning and now Iknow I've mastered a process
that I'm loving.
And 90 minutes with an edit.
If I don't do an edit, allthese take me 45 minutes A week.
(20:19):
Do you realize this?
My podcast has beenconsistently ranked in the top
1% worldwide in for an hour anda half a week.
Let's call it an hour and ahalf if I'm editing.
If I'm not, it's 45 minutes.
You try to tell me that doingblogging or I mean maybe
(20:39):
blogging you could do in 45minutes or an hour and a half,
but social media over the wholeweek to try to build an audience
.
Do y'all know how hard it isnow to get followers?
It's so much harder than when Istarted.
It's crazy.
And YouTube it takes a while, unless you're already famous.
Y'all, if you're already famousand you have a huge network,
(21:01):
you may be able to boost this alot faster.
I didn't.
I started with zero, nothingonline.
I didn't really leverage my oldonline boutiques because no one
really knew me behind thescenes.
My business was a store.
I wasn't the face of thebusiness.
So you have to ask yourself howmuch time do I have?
Most of my clients that workwith me have full-time jobs or
(21:23):
they maybe have to take care ofaging parents, they have little
kids, they have communityservice, church volunteering all
this, all the stuff.
They don't have time.
To me, podcasting is the mosttime efficient bang for your
buck, return on your investmentin terms of marketing.
So, do you have time?
(21:44):
What do you have time for?
And if you can tell me you'vegot, let's just make it two
hours, two hours a week to doyour marketing with a podcast.
You could quickly do somelittle social media posts that
don't take long because I don'trely on social media Then that's
great.
You would be a great candidatefor a podcast.
If you're short on time, Ithink if you have a ton of time
(22:05):
where you could learn Facebookads and learn all this stuff,
then maybe that's great for you.
Okay, so we said number one doyou need an online audience?
Number two do you have time tomarket, to try to grow an
audience online?
And number three do you want toimpact lives through your
podcast, your business?
(22:36):
If you are impacting lives, people tell me and y'all I'm not
saying this to brag, I'm just Iwant to be honest with you
about the results of thispodcast that people tell me all
the time it's changed their lifeand I want you to think about
that for a minute.
With whatever topic you'rethinking about, I'm not talking
about changing 80 bazillionpeople's lives.
It could be a handful of livesthat you could make a difference
(22:58):
by simply showing up each weekto record a message that you
know could from hosting your ownpodcast.
It gets to be your own art.
(23:19):
That's what's really cool.
It gets to be your own art.
You can interview people, notinterview people.
I haven't interviewed that manypeople.
Okay, I'm not great at it.
I need to get better, because Iinterrupt people and I laugh
weird and there's all that kindof stuff.
You know people and I laughweird and there's all that kind
(23:40):
of stuff you know.
But you get to make it whateveryou want.
But the good news is, if you'repairing it with a business, you
now have a purpose in this andyou have a focus and you're like
on a mission with everybody andyou're helping them and then
you're inviting them to nextsteps with you and then some of
those people will purchase fromyou and it's a fantastic way to
(24:01):
grow your business withoutbanging your head against the
wall.
With social media, trying tofigure out the algorithm and
trying to beat it and trying tochase customers and clients
Y'all that is so frustrating.
You could move from the chaseto actually attracting people.
You could attract peoplebecause of your connection, your
authority, all those thingsthat you're doing on your
(24:23):
podcast, how you're positioningyourself, how you're positioning
your products and services.
If you want to make adifference for people y'all
podcasting is amazing, I know, even when I watch YouTube and I
do watch YouTube now.
I've been had been studyingother stuff personally and have
been on YouTube watching how-tosand all that.
I will watch some people for funat normal speed, but a lot of
(24:45):
times I'm speeding it up to 1.5or 1.75, getting the information
that I need and leaving and Ihaven't seen them again.
I don't know who they were, Idon't know their names.
I don't necessarily feel superconnected.
There are some that I subscribeto that I do kind of feel
connected with, but the peoplethat I listen to on a podcast
(25:06):
I'm totally connected to.
I'm listening to them, I goback and listen.
I go to old episodes.
I can't wait for their newepisodes.
So I want you to think aboutyour habits.
How do you feel most connectedto people and how have people
made an impact on you?
Is podcasting something thatyou've been listening to as a
consumer and has it made adifference for you?
(25:27):
I think that's a big questionbecause most of my clients who
are business owners that arestarting a podcast, find so
valuable because they listen inthe car, they listen while
they're walking, while they'recleaning the house, and those
are all the three ways that Ilisten as well.
Whenever I'm doing somethingannoying like cleaning or doing
wash, I put on a podcast and Ican clean so much better and I'm
(25:50):
joyful.
Well, I'm doing I don't evenknow that I'm doing it Like I
almost get amnesia.
I don't realize that I'mcleaning, right.
And when I'm on a walk, I go onyou know over an hour walks in
the morning and I listen topodcasts usually.
Sometimes I'll listen toYouTubes.
Like, do you call them YouTubes, youtube videos?
I don't know, I just soundedlike an old person, I think.
(26:10):
But sometimes I listen toYouTube videos, right, and I'm
kind of watching while I'mwalking.
But if I have my dog I can'twatch, so I'm just listening.
But think about it.
Think about the value and theimpact that podcasts have made
on your life.
And if you've been listening tothis podcast for a long time,
think about the value, the tips, what you've gotten from this
podcast and envision yourself asa podcaster and what impact you
(26:33):
could make on people's lives.
You may have a totally differentniche, something completely
different.
Like, one of my clients has apodcast about cheese.
Shout out to Brittany Curd isthe word, curd is the word.
Isn't that the cutest thing?
She has a love for cheese,y'all.
She has a business doing eventsin her local area and she has a
podcast, so shout out.
(26:54):
I have another client, jenniferNoble.
She has a Speak Honest podcast.
She does relationship coachingAmazing, awesome, right.
And so they have different waysof impacting the world.
So think about it.
Someone who's talking aboutcheese just makes your life
better.
I mean, how much better is yourlife when you learn about
cheese?
It's amazing.
And then relationship coachingimproves your relationships.
(27:15):
That's life-changing for people.
Okay, for me, the business, it'slife-changing.
It gives them the courage andthe skills they need to actually
pursue this dream that they'vehad and to realize.
It doesn't have to be thatcomplicated.
It doesn't have to be thatexpensive.
You don't have to mortgage yourhome or anything like that.
Like you can start, simple andinexpensive.
So do you want to make adifference for people?
(27:36):
So y'all today ask yourselfthese two questions Do I need an
online audience, like, do Ineed to go ahead and build this?
How much time do I have?
Do I have an hour and a half, two hours a week to do it?
Would I rather do that thantaking on learning YouTube with
all?
There's a lot that goes into it.
Your thumbnails, your thethumbnails that you put on the
(27:57):
videos, knowing all the keywords, filming it, scripting it, or
having your slides, editing it,uploading it the whole nine
yards.
It's amazing, but it's timeconsuming.
Okay, taking on ads, learningsocial media Is social media
fulfilling to you?
If it is, maybe social media Ihave younger clients that are
(28:19):
really really good at socialmedia and I love that they are
successful on it.
If that's you, maybe that'syour way.
But to think about that, youwouldn't have to be on that
hamster wheel and chasing thealgorithm and chasing customers
and clients.
You could actually beattracting people through this
connection method of a podcast.
Audio is fabulous, okay, and doyou want to make a difference
(28:44):
for people?
Because a podcast is afantastic way to make a
difference for people.
It really is y'all, it'sawesome.
Again, my opinion.
A difference for people?
It really is y'all it's awesome.
Again, my opinion, best returnon your time, energy and money.
You can add these other methodslater, so that's the good news,
but you could start with thisto start really building your
(29:04):
authority and creatingconnection.
So, if this is you today you'relistening to this.
You're like, yes, I need anonline audience.
Yes, I have time.
Yes, I want to impact lives andgrow my business right.
Then make sure you go downbelow, get my free training.
They're my 3 Secrets toBusiness Podcasting Success.
Watch that.
It's like 20 minutes.
It's a great training.
Watch that.
(29:25):
And then I have my binge-worthybootcamp that takes you through
everything for getting startedwith your podcast, integrating
it with your business so thatyour business grows and you can
impact lives.
I have an option there whereyou can have one-on-one coaching
with me while you're doing thecourse and while you're working
through everything.
So you watch all those videosand you're like okay, I know my
equipment, I know how I'm goingto do this, I know the workflow.
(29:46):
I'm doing this, this, this.
Okay, I need to talk toKimberly for an hour and let's
go through it.
That's what my clients do andit works.
Awesome, it works.
It's a great like hybrid modelfor you to get moving fast.
Because here's the deal.
I could have a group coachingprogram doing this for y'all,
but I don't right now, becausewhat I'm finding right now is
people need help right now.
Right now, like give me thetrainings, let me get on a
(30:08):
coaching call with you.
So that's what I'm doing.
I'm meeting you where you're at.
You're busy, you got afull-time job or whatever else
it is, and I want you to knowthat I'm here to help you and
I'm doing my best to serve youin the way that you would love
to be served, that you wouldlove to be helped.
So that's it Again.
Podcasting is the best businessdecision I ever made.
I know it could be for you too,and if you want to reach out,
(30:31):
maybe you just want coaching.
Maybe you already kind of knowhow to start a podcast.
You've already launched yours, but you're still confused on
like, how do I integrate thiswith my business and really grow
my business and create moreimpact?
We could just do one-on-onecoaching, so you got lots of
options.

I'm so passionate about thisand I know that you can impact
the world through podcasts.
