I hope you are keeping the endin mind, meaning you are seeing
yourself helping people in theway that I know that you've been
gifted by God to do so.
Hope you're seeing that aheadof you.
I hope that you are realizinghow awesome you are for doing
(04:38):
this, because so many peoplenever take steps to start or
build a business and or apodcast, and I just am in awe of
you and I'm so proud of you andI'm so glad you're here Today.
We're talking about how tomentally get through starting a
business.
Y'all, starting anything is hard.
Y'all know what I just startedrecently.
(04:59):
I just have to tell you.
So I just started doingstrength training again.
Strength training, yes, me.
And what does that really mean?
Does that mean I'm like lifting, like those huge weights with
the big round barbells?
Absolutely not.
Like I'm having to start almostat zero.
Many of y'all know I got COVIDthree years ago and I got an
(05:22):
autoimmune.
I had adrenal insufficiency ifany of you know what that is and
was suffered for that with thatfor like two years.
Finally that has cured itself.
Thank you, lord, my adrenalshave kicked back in and now
producing cortisol again.
If you don't know what I'mtalking about, then don't even
worry about it.
You don't even want to know.
But if you do know what I'mtalking about, I have recovered
from that, but I'm still leftwith a lovely autoimmune that
(05:44):
they're still trying to figureout and it affects my joints and
all that stuff and I had, andit affected my muscles and I
hadn't been able to do strengthtraining.
I walk every day but I'm likethis needs to be my strength era
.
You know, you always hear thatthe, the, the young people say
this is my whatever era, this ismy strength era.
And I decided, I decided onTuesday, today's Wednesday, I
(06:06):
decided yesterday this is mystrength era and I'm doing
weights.
So I started I'm doing 10-poundweights Y'all.
Before COVID I was like at 45.
I was a crazy person.
I was lifting, you know, doingheavy bicep curls and pull-ups
and push-ups and all the stuff, and immediately after I got
COVID I couldn't do any of it,like I couldn't even do a
(06:28):
push-up.
It was the most bizarre thing.
So, anyways, my point is I'mstarting something new, even
though I'm familiar with it.
Right, I've done fitnessactivities my entire life and
I'm starting something new andso I want you to know that I
know what it's like to startagain.
Okay, I know what it's like.
I literally told myself Tuesday, monday, I went on my Peloton
(06:51):
app like I have the app becauseI have a bike and a dreadmiller
Peloton that I love and Iclicked it because I was like I
need to start strength trainingand it was like do you want us
to create a workout for you?
I'm like I love AI right now, like I'm loving this.
It created a whole workout planfor me every day, based on how
long I wanted to work out eachday, what I wanted to do, like
(07:11):
what my goals were.
And I said strength.
And I said I work out six daysa week and I'll do it for 45
minutes or an hour.
So I put all that in and itgave me a workout and I did the
first one yesterday.
I said this is my strength eraand I'm starting this and this
totally stinks because I'mweaker than I've ever been and I
looked in the mirror and myarms just look like noodles.
They look like little noodlesand I'm like this has to change.
(07:32):
What I hope today is that yourealize that you have to change
if you want this to happen, ifyou want to build a successful
business and or a podcast.
It's going to stink.
For a while You're going tofeel like a noodle.
You're going to like sittingthere, you know, looking in the
(07:55):
mirror, going, this stinks, thisis hard.
I've got so far to go.
What am I doing?
And yet, knowing in your soulthis is what you should be doing
, I know in my soul, at my age, that I should be strength
training.
It's everything that they talkabout in health and fitness is
that we have to preserve ourmuscles right?
For any of you that are my age,or even in your 40s, you're
(08:17):
probably feeling it too, right.
So we have to start somewhere.
And it stinks and it's a mentalgame, y'all.
It's a mental game.
That's what this is.
Okay, you know, I believe insimplicity, that everything can
and should be very simple rightnow.
Y'all know that.
But I think there's some otherthings that have to be turned on
(08:40):
in your brain right now.
Like you literally have toshift your thinking.
It's just like me with thestrength training.
Like I'm sitting there goingmad, like as I'm picking up the
10 pound weights, that I used todo a lot more on bicep curls
and everything Right, and it'shard, because then you realize
(09:01):
how behind you kind of feel likeyou are.
I don't know, I don't know ifyou're feeling this right now,
any of you, even if you're justlike starting your podcast right
now, like you're like I'm justtrying to tread water and like
keep my head above water, right, maybe you have a full-time job,
maybe you're taking care oflittle kids, maybe you're taking
care of elderly parents, maybeyou have a lot of volunteer
(09:22):
commitments and things like that, and you are just trying to
keep your head above water.
How do we keep our head in thegame, though?
How do we mentally do this?
You hear about those peoplethat survive.
Speaking of head above water, like when you've seen those
people that like tread water forhours or survive out in the
ocean.
I don't know how they did it,but I do know that it's a mental
(09:44):
game.
It's a mental game that we canall get stronger at.
It's like a muscle that we'rehaving to build, and what I love
is if you can make some simpleshifts with your business right.
Well, with your mindset asyou're building your business,
this can go a lot smoother andyou can be on the other side of
(10:04):
I'm just starting smoother andyou can be on the other side of
I'm just starting right.
You can get to the other sideof it.
It's like when you get marriedor something like you're
newlywed, newlywed and you justwant to get to like where you
have a life and like you'remarried and you have, and then
maybe even you have a family, and you know what I'm saying.
So we have to get through thispart.
We have to get through it okay.
So here's three mental shiftsthat I wanna talk you through.
(10:28):
Those of you that have beenlistening to me for the past
five years, you're probablygonna know some of these because
I talk about them, but Ithought in today's episode I was
just kind of bring it alltogether.
So I think these are soimportant for you to remember
and I think they're timeless, Ithink, even when you're an
(10:50):
expert in business.
These are good.
I think these are really goodand I think they help keep you
moving.
They really do they.
They help you keep moving.
Okay, you ready.
Number one let go ofimperfection.
You'll know I'm the biggestadvocate for this.
I wave this flag of imperfectaction.
I don't think you realize howimperfect your stuff needs to be
(11:15):
in order to start making money.
I think you think in order tostart making money, it has to be
perfect Y'all.
You will waste so much timetrying to perfect everything
before you even get going thatyou will never get to where you
realize your dream.
(11:35):
You will stall everything, youwill lose momentum, you'll even
lose, like that spark becauseyou're trying to perfect
everything and you'll get reallyfrustrated.
I don't know what you're workingon.
If you're working on a website,if you're working on graphics,
if you're working on, if you'reworking on a website, if you're
working on graphics, if you'reworking on, you know your
product, your labels, your, yourservice offering.
(11:56):
But when you sit there andwaste time in the beginning,
before you get everything going, like you're wasting time right
now, before you're puttingyourself out there, you're
stalling your success.
But you're just stalling thisbusiness.
You're stalling helping people.
You have to let go and realizethis will not be perfect right
(12:18):
now.
Here's why it will not beperfect.
I know you have the definitionof perfection right now, but you
know why it won't be perfect?
Because it's going to change.
Do you realize that when youstart helping people, your
services, your offerings, yourproduct mix, the people you
serve, the things you say willchange.
(12:40):
Yeah, they will change.
You know why?
Because you'll realize, oh mygosh, I missed this or I missed
that or oh, I should be helpingthese people.
I should be saying that what ifyou had tried to perfect all of
that before, which I don't knowhow you could, and you spent
all this money on, let's say, printable stuff and all this
stuff and making certainproducts and getting certified
(13:05):
for certain services, and whenyou come to find out that that
was not what you were doing, youactually shifted your business
a little bit and you wasted allthat time.
The goal is to get goingimperfectly now so you can test,
refine, tweak, get feedback andthen get in the correct
(13:26):
direction.
Your whole goal in thebeginning is actually finding
direction, like clear direction, and you can't get that, which
is so counterintuitive.
But you can't get that untilyou go.
I know a lot of times, likebefore we go on a trip, before
we do anything, we want the mapright.
We don't even want to leave thehouse.
I mean, I don't.
I don't even back out of mydriveway when I'm going
(13:47):
somewhere.
New that I don't have GoogleMaps on.
I don't wait until I'm likedriving down the street.
I'm sure my husband probablywaits till he's driving down the
street, but I don't, like, Iwant to turn that on.
Okay, but we can't do that inbusiness.
We actually have to start goingand then everything will kick
in and then we'll realize, oh,we should actually be going this
way, not that way.
We should actually be offeringthis.
(14:09):
Not that we should be sayingthis, not that we should be
helping these people, and maybenot these people because they
aren't as fun to work with,right, or I can't get them a
good enough transformation.
Everything cannot be perfectright now because you don't even
totally know who you are as abusiness owner, right, you don't
(14:32):
even know who you totally are.
It's just like teenagers.
They don't know who theytotally are.
They think they know who theyare, but imagine they tried to
perfect their life before theywent out and tried anything.
Like you have to go out and trystuff and go okay, process of
elimination.
I don't like doing that, but Ilike doing this.
Right, you may be sellingproducts and services, but once
(14:52):
you start offering them, you'relike forget this, I'm not
offering physical productsanymore, I'm just doing services
or vice versa, right, but youdon't know that.
But imagine you perfected bothof those before you even, like,
started selling and you realizedI don't even want to sell one
of those and I just wasted allthat time and money trying to
create that.
Do y'all see what I'm saying?
(15:13):
You have to let go ofimperfection.
You are going to have to get inthe good enough mentality.
That's where I am, in fact,y'all.
I'm creating that course that Imentioned.
It's actually going to becalled Passion to Podcast and I
have the course there.
That's going to be inside mywhole program of the PodSquad.
Like, you will get Passion toPodcast free with it.
(15:34):
The course will come with it.
But you're getting my personalhelp inside the PodSquad if
you're in that beta, right, andso I'm starting a course and I'm
like looking at it even todayjust before this going.
Okay, I still need to add this,I need to add this, and I
thought you know what?
No, I am not letting, I am justputting in the key trainings
that I know you need.
I'm recording the videos.
(15:54):
I'm not re-recording.
I said later I will re-record,I will listen to what my clients
say, after they're watchingsome of these recordings, what
they still need help with.
I'm probably going to have tore-record them anyways, because
they're going to give meinsights that I don't even know
that they need, and I'm going tohave to re-record anyway.
So why would I re-record now?
Because my hair is a little bitfrizzy, or because I didn't say
(16:16):
a few things, or because thelighting wasn't perfect?
I'm not doing that.
I'm literally one take, let'sgo.
I've got to get these videos in.
I'm on a deadline and it's mydeadline that I want to get this
thing going in the next twoweeks.
I want to have clients that arein here and we're working on
their podcast and I'm gettingfeedback on what they need help
with so I can create more videosand the trainings that I know
(16:39):
are going to help you as you'rebuilding a podcast for your
business Right.
So I've had to let go ofimperfection on this as well.
Right now.
Your business will never nothave something new that it's
starting, so you have toremember that too.
You've got to get used to this.
You've got to get used tothings being imperfect, because
it will happen time and timeagain that you start something
(17:02):
new.
The market's changing all thetime.
The market is changing all thetime and you're going to have to
shift, so you have to learn howto like get good enough out
there.
The good enough Okay, it's notperfect, we know it.
It's okay, but you have to dothat if you actually want to
move your business forward, okay.
So that's number one.
(17:23):
Let go of imperfection.
Number two give yourself somegrace.
Already Everyone is so hard onthemselves.
Y'all are your worst critics.
I can guarantee you if you toldsomeone that you know about
your business and what you'redoing, they'd be like that is
amazing.
(17:43):
What You've already done.
This, you've created this, youhave this, but you over here
behind the scenes are like thisstinks.
This isn't good enough.
There's others that are better.
I don't know what I'm doing.
Why am I doing this?
I don't have that much time todo it because I have a full-time
job.
I wish I had more time.
I wish I had more money.
I'm so mad right now.
I don't get to be home with mychildren, but I'm trying to
(18:03):
build this business and have afull-time job and you just go on
and on and on beatingyourselves up.
What do you expect from someonewho gets beat up all day.
Do you expect them toconfidently show up?
(18:23):
Do you expect them toconfidently show up?
Imagine a coach coaching achild and they were being
negative and beating themselvesup all day long.
Do you think they would be intheir best mindset to achieve
the athletic status that they'relooking for?
No, so why are you doing thisto yourself?
For those of you that are womenout there and I know the
majority of my listeners are weare.
(18:46):
We treat ourselves terrible.
We treat ourselves terrible.
We have negative self-talk andwe don't give grace.
We have high expectations, which I think is awesome.
That we have high expectations,I think we should.
But what we have to realize isback to things being imperfect,
that it's not going to beperfect and that we have to give
ourselves some grace because weonly have so much time, energy
(19:08):
and money right now.
You only have so much time, energy and money.
Imagine that coach that I justtalked about that was beating up
.
You know the athlete all daylong telling them you know all
the negative things.
What if the coach changed andwas like okay, listen, I know
you are here in basketball andyou're 5'5" and everybody else
is 6' and over.
(19:28):
We know that, but you're goingto try harder, you're going to
work on your jumps, you're goingto work on your sprints, you're
going to do all these things.
Let's go, come on andmotivating even though we know
we have the constraints right, motivating even though we have
the constraints.
So you have to be your owncoach, your own motivator, and
you have to say let's go.
(19:49):
Okay, this is what we're dealingwith.
We only have this much time, this much energy, this much
money, and I'm gonna give it myall and it's gonna be imperfect,
but I'm gonna go and I'm gonnaget something out there now.
It doesn't have to be sloppyY'all.
I'm not advocating forsloppiness.
I hope everyone realizes that Ido think things will not be
(20:09):
perfect.
You may have a spelling error, you may have something that's a
shade off on the colors, maybesomething isn't aligned, maybe
your product or service isn'texactly what you want to offer,
but that's different thansloppiness, right?
You have to give yourself somegrace.
There's only so much you haveright now in order to build this
(20:29):
dream, because I know you wantto it right now.
I know you wanna get it going, whether you can go full-time now
or in years, but I know now youwanna get it going so that you
can build that base, and I thinkthat's so smart and I think you
should.
Okay, if you only have two hoursa week to work on this business
, then you only have two hours aweek.
Let's go make it a power packtwo hours a week, okay.
(20:50):
If you hardly have any money toput into this business, then
let's make it super efficientand effective and streamlined
and simple, so that you don'thave to spend a lot of money,
right?
Whatever it is, give yourselfsome grace and say it's okay,
you can still do this at thispace.
Whatever this pace is, giveyourself some grace and let's go
.
You wouldn't treat other peopleany other way.
(21:12):
But why do you treat yourselfdifferent?
Right?
Give yourself some grace, okay.
So, number one, let go ofimperfection.
Number two, give yourself somegrace.
And number three, realize thatevery minute that you try to
(21:34):
perfect all this and that you'rehard on yourself and that
you're procrastinating andyou're not getting stuff done,
you're actually stalling yoursuccess.
You're still far away fromsuccess.
Think about me lifting weights10 pounds, 10 pound, little
dumbbells, y'all.
It's so weird me even say that, because I used to lift so much
heavier, okay.
(21:55):
And now I'm like and I say liftlightly.
I wasn't like a CrossFitter,but I mean I used heavy weights.
And now, it's weird, I'm notwhere I was at all.
It's been three years sinceI've been trying to do strength
training and if I didn't starton Tuesday that morning, I've
been like trying to do strengthtraining and if I didn't start
(22:16):
on Tuesday that morning, yesterday, yesterday, I said
this is it, this is yourstrength.
There is click play on thePeloton, let's go.
And I'm already excited fortomorrow's strength workout.
Right, I did cardio today.
But think if I had said that onTuesday and then not done the
workout and then I had to getmyself motivated, I would then
have stalled my success.
Because now I'm two days closerto my success because I started
(22:37):
and I said that's it, that's it.
End of story.
I'm starting, I will be doingthis.
I'm going out of town thisweekend to my lake house.
I already have planned Pelotonout.
I'm going to be doing mystrength and I'm disciplined
that way and I'll do it Rightevery day that you sit there and
wallow in any kind of self-pity, self-doubt, beating yourself
(23:02):
up, trying to perfect everything, trying to learn more when you
don't need to learn more.
You are stalling your success.
You need to be taking simpleaction steps so that you can
move forward and start helpingpeople.
And, by the way, do you knowwhat success means?
(23:22):
What does it mean?
What does it mean to you Rightnow, wherever you are?
Think about it.
What does success mean to you?
Does it mean making a certainamount of money?
Does it mean working very fewhours a week to make some money?
Does it mean having a creativeoutlet and getting to create and
(23:45):
sell something?
No matter how much money youmake, you don't even care.
You just want to get it outinto the world and have your
business and do it Like.
What is success?
All of those things makesuccess.
What is your definition ofsuccess?
If you don't get moving now, you're stalling that success and
(24:06):
you're stalling helping peoplewhen I know in your heart that's
really what you want.
You want a career that'simpactful, a career that is
something you're excited to do,and you probably are not so
enthralled with the money rightnow.
You are, but you've got to getit going.
(24:28):
You're so excited to helppeople and like learn and help
and learn business and just havethis creative outlet and
actually see your dream come tolife and be like I'm doing this,
I'm so excited, I can't wait tohelp you, like I know you all.
That's how you are.
You're like overjoyed to helppeople with what you do, like it
(24:50):
makes you so happy.
You're delaying that if you'renot mentally strong and not
getting moving.
You have to start taking stepsto gain that confidence and to
gain that momentum so that youcan achieve your definition of
success sooner than later andyou can start impacting lives
(25:13):
sooner than later.
Impacting lives sooner thanlater.
Y'all, as business owners, wehave to mentally get in the game
.
We have to, number one, let goof imperfection.
Number two, we have to giveourselves grace.
And, number three, we have toacknowledge that by allowing
(25:35):
ourselves to stall and not getmoving, we're delaying our
success and we're delaying theimpact that we could be making
in other people's lives.
Today is the day that you'rejust going to decide I'm not
going to be perfect, that I'mgoing to give myself grace and
I'm going to get moving, becauseI don't want to delay this
(25:58):
dream.
I want to live this dream.

perfect.
And I gave myself grace and Isaid I'm not going to delay this
