Jen Rogers (00:00):
Are you a collector of something?
When I was a kid, my familytraveled all over the United
States, particularly west of theMississippi, and we spelled
Mississippi.
We played that silly game,M-i-s-s-i-s-s-i-p-p-i and we'd
say how do you spell it?
And instead of sayingM-I-S-S-I-S-S-I-P-P-I we would

(00:20):
say I-T.
That was one of the manyredundant road games that we
played.
Oh, those roads with too manykids trapped in a station wagon.
When's the last time you'veseen a station wagon on the road
?
Come to think of it, I can'tthink of the last time I've seen
one.
Lots of SUVs and vans, but Ithink station wagons may be dead

(00:41):
.
Hey, have you ever foundsomething you didn't know you
were missing?
In the last episode I sharedwith you that, the release day
of this episode, I would beliving in a new house and let me
tell you, I am currentlysurrounded by all kinds of boxes
here and as I open up the boxes, some things were packed.

(01:02):
Oh well, I guess it was lastNovember so six, seven months
ago that we were packing, and itseems like a long time ago.
And yet not that long ago.
Listen, I have discoveredmuscles.
I forgot that I had from thelast time that we moved.
Moving is a ton of work.
The highlight of moving for meis when I open up a box and I

(01:24):
forget that I had that specialsomething.
One of the things I unpackedyesterday was this box of trunks
, and I collected trunks.
Now, I'm not a big collector ofa bunch of things.
Although you might not knowthat by some of the things that
will be unpacked and put out inmy house, my mom was a huge

(01:45):
collector of things.
How about you?
Have you collected anything?
When we traveled all over theUnited States, my mom would
always get a spoon.
Some people get coffee mugs orhot pads or coasters.
My mom collected spoons, andalso teacups and saucers.
As I recall, she had a passionfor collecting things for her

(02:06):
home.
Her home was incrediblybeautiful and the things she
liked to collect in her homewere these castles, these David
Winter castles.
I currently have about 150 ofthem boxed up in my new garage.
I will set them out eventually.
I'm just not sure how long it'sgoing to take me to figure out
where I want to place everything.
Right now, the most importantthing that I placed was getting

(02:27):
my equipment set up so I couldrecord today's episode for you,
because I wanted to sharesomething about what's going on
with the Empowered Stepmom.
And we are going to get to thatin one hot second.
When we travel to new places, whether with family loaded in
the SUVs, the vans, whatever ourvehicle of choice is, whether

(02:51):
we're traveling for businessopportunities or to a new home,
we can feel a bit out of sorts, uncertain, wondering how things
are all going to come together.
We're nervited about theadventures, you know, a little
bit nervous and a little bitexcited all at the same time.
Last week a woman reached outto me to share how challenging

(03:13):
her new marriage has become.
The stereotypical high-conflictex-wife feels like a threat.
The kids are rude anddismissive towards her, which
leaves her questioning herrelationship with her husband.
She wonders if this move was amistake.
She's in a new home, his home, and it feels like, well, like

(03:34):
she's trapped in the rear of astation wagon headed south.
The thing is, when we feeltrapped, our brain is in that
classive protective mode.
Is when we feel trapped, ourbrain is in that classive
protective mode, our brains likepredictable.
We definitely like to have asense of control.
Even though we may like thethrill of new experiences and
imagine all the possibilities ofwhat could be.

(03:56):
We must continually fightagainst staying comfortable
where we are because, well, that's part of our
sanctification journey, ourtransformation experience.
We are definitely going to feellike we're out of control, and
we are because, well, that'spart of our sanctification
journey, our transformationexperience.
We are definitely going to feellike we're out of control and
we are definitely going to feeluncomfortable.
On this episode, I'll share abit of nervitedness of my own as

(04:17):
I head into new territory, butI don't want to go it alone.
I want us to go together.
I hope you say yes to comingalong this adventure.
For the last 223 episodes thatwe've been together, the podcast
has transformed from theinaugural episodes of Blended on
the Bluff Although I cringewhen I think of some of my

(04:37):
earliest episodes I know thosewere the seeds to the fruit of
the empowered stepmom.
After Blended on the Bluff, there was a stint of time where
Bill and I co-hosted and renamedto Step Family Mission Possible
, where we ministered to blendedfamily couples.
If you're looking for words toexpress the challenges you face,
you want to know that you'renot alone and you desperately

(04:59):
need insights on what to expecton the roller coaster of blended
families and how you canovercome common step family
pitfalls.
Episodes 78 through 91 arespecifically for you that will
take you along 12 missions.
Those episodes are powerful foryou to listen to and work
through as a couple together.
They'll definitely help you onyour journey and help you

(05:20):
understand some of thosechallenges and help you
understand the complexity ofwhat it is that God has called
you to do together as a couple.
Starting with episode 97, Iwent back to my stepmama roots,
renaming the podcast to Bold andBlended Stepmoms.
Last October, I hired abranding and marketing coach and
the show became the EmpoweredStepmom.

(05:42):
I've loved the empoweringelement of the show.
The biggest thing I learned inmy podcasting journey and
building a community is being astepmom is actually not about
taking back control.
That's what I was trying to dowhen I first started out and I
was failing miserably.
Instead of working to regaincontrol instead of seeking ways
to take back control, gaincontrol instead of seeking ways

(06:08):
to take back control.
We must accept that we've losta lot of control.
However, there is somethingthat we have gained and that's
what the Empowered Stepmom isall about.
It's about reclaiming yourpower and your joy.
Despite the challenges that weexperience as stepmoms, we can
use our influence in our homesto foster the family environment
that we crave.
It really does start with us.

(06:29):
God designed us that way as awoman.
That's one of the gifts that wehave.
So here we are, on theprecipice of change as I explore
new horizons, and I amdefinitely nervited.
The ambition of the EmpoweredStepmom Podcast has always been
to minister to a woman's heartalong her stepmom journey.
I know exactly what it's liketo feel like an imposter in my

(06:51):
own home.
It's a confidence stealer, andthat's why I'm here to help you
conquer imposter syndrome forgood, so you can stop wrestling
with things out of your controland start investing your time,
your money and your energy, yourpower, your money and your
energy, your power into yourdreams.
Hey there, I'm Jen Rogers, keynote speaker, entrepreneur
and your hostess with themostest.

(07:11):
My mission is to come alongsideyou like we're good friends,
savoring a delicious beverage ina bustling coffee shop where
the desserts are delightful andwe encourage each other with the
truths of the gospel, sharedreams and aspirations and
explore new territory together.
As a certified professionallife coach, I've honed skills to

(07:32):
help you move throughnervousness with expectation at
what God will do If you'relooking to get unstuck and are
willing to practice a new way ofdoing things.
Professional coaching may beright for you To find out for
sure.
Take the empowerment quiz toexplore how working with me can
have you experiencing theconfidence that comes from
knowing you're on the righttrack.

All right, sweet woman, let'smove forward with what's next
for the Empowered StepmomPodcast.
For the Empowered StepmomPodcast.

(08:14):
So what is next?
A couple of weeks ago, Iinterviewed a new friend, anna,
host of she Considers a Fieldpodcast.
There's much to love about Annaand her show.
She's so encouraging as Ishared what God's laid on my
heart for some time now.
Anna listened well, she askedpowerful questions and shared

(08:36):
astute advice.
I am so grateful.
I am blessed with many powerful, entrepreneurial and creative
women in my circle.
I pray you are too.
After our conversation, annasent me a message where she
shared a post that related to mydecision point and I'd like to
share it with you.
Where she shared a post thatrelated to my decision point and

(08:56):
I'd like to share it with you.
When you are in a lay low buildand birth season, there will be
many distractions and situationsthat come with a sense of alarm
and urgency, slander that wantsyour reaction and sudden
expectations that demand yourtime.
Instead of falling for thattrick again, discern, block,
stay focused and co-labor withGod to see what he gave you come

(09:21):
full term.
That's where I am.
I'm in a lay low, build andbirth season.
As an entrepreneur, I'vewrestled with my desire to go
all in on my passion of timemanagement, habit stacking and
planning as a keynote speaker,as a creator, as a stepmom.
All these things start withvision and a plan.

(09:43):
As I reviewed the last 223episodes, there are common
themes yes, navigating anxiety, but there's a lot of creating a
plan, a vision for who you wantto become, encouraging women in
the heart of the hurt habits andthe power of habit stacking.
Friend, this is where my heartis.

(10:03):
I plan to move forward servingbudding entrepreneurial women.
I'll lead Christian women inplanning to create the future
they crave through the power oftime management and habit
stacking.
The overarching plan is clear.
In fact, I even have aChristian women entrepreneur
planner in development.
I know I'll do that and I'llalso pursue more keynote and

(10:25):
workshop training opportunities.
If you are in a business or youare a solopreneur who needs the
power of time management, reachout to me at friends at
stepfamilypodcastcom and let'sconnect and learn how my skills
can up-level your business.
Of course, the obvious questioncomes to mind You're listening
to the Empowered Stepmom podcast, so what happens next?

(10:46):
I've wrestled, I've changed mymind several times.
I felt guilt, I felt I don'tknow so many different emotions
about this body of work.
Here's the thing I know thatI'm gifted in the area of
podcasting and I'm so gratefulfor it.
I've been blessed with theopportunity to coach many women

(11:07):
in bringing their dream podcastto life and it's been a huge
blast Preparing episodes for you, friend.
That's been a blessing to me.
I love showing up and beingwith you.
Here's what I know right nowit's time to simplify, to
simplify my dreams into keythemes.
Thank you for being a part ofthat.
I know being a stepmom iscomplex.

(11:29):
I also know it reveals thingsstored deeply within our hearts
that don't serve us well, andGod has called us to unearth
them and deal with them.
So how does all of this gotogether?
That takes me back to what Annashared.
I'm in a lay low, build andbirth season right now and I do

(11:49):
need your help.
Hey, if you are a womanentrepreneur and want to come
along with me, let's connect toget to know one another and talk
market research for managingyour time as a business owner.
Head on over to bitly forward.
Slash nervited N-E-R-V-I-T-E-Dthat's bitly forward.

No matter your role, you and I,we are women of influence and
this podcast will go on.
It will change to align withthe role that God is moving me
towards, but there will alwaysbe a soft spot for you as a
stepmom here.

birth.
You are a treasure for sure.
Thank you for supporting me andfor supporting this podcast.

(12:53):
I'll go radio silent for just abit, but I will be back soon
when it's time to simplify.
Same bat channel.
No need to modify anything inyour podcast app In the meantime
.
I invite you to keep me in yourearbuds each day between now
and when I return, by startingthe 30-day prayer challenge for
your family.
Scroll down to find the link inthe show notes to begin with day

(13:16):
one.
It is life-changing, even ifyou've done the challenge before
.
Prayer is always the answer toup-leveling what comes next for
you.
I know that to be true.
It's been true in my own life.
God is so gracious to hear ourprayers, and there have been
many times where I've wanted ananswer and I haven't heard the
answer.
I have not discerned the answerand so I've waited, and I know

(13:40):
waiting is hard.
Waiting is painful because weget impatient, and yet God is
unchanging.
God is good all the time.
Isn't that the best news?
That's absolutely the best news.
We serve a mighty, powerful God.
All right, I've given youseveral invitations, whether

(14:01):
you're joining the 30-Day PrayerChallenge, or you're sending me
an email at friends atstepfamilypodcastcom to let me
know that you want to go on thejourney with me, or you want to
sit down for a coffee chat headon over to bitly forward, slash
nervevited, so we can talk abouthow we can simplify this
entrepreneurial journey togetherBecause, sweet woman, it is

(14:24):
time to simplify.
Okay, before I go radio silentfor a little while, as in I'm
not sure when I'm coming back, because, well, because I don't
know yet I am working throughsome things and I am planning
things so that I can be readyfor what comes next.
Again, that lay low birthingseason.

(14:45):
I'm taking that quite literally.
As we get ready to sign offtogether.
For just a little bit, let mepray over you, heavenly Father.
Thank you so much for this timetogether.
I pray for your insight, I prayfor your wisdom and discernment
as we navigate what comes nextfor us.

(15:06):
There are many challenges thatwe face in our homes.
There are uncertainties, thereare relationships where we
struggle in connecting, there'sconfusion.
As we navigate our new roles,we're unsure, and when we're
unsure and lack confidence, wetend to withhold our full being.
Father, god, I pray your HolySpirit would infuse us with your

(15:30):
confidence.
A lot of times we hear the Godconfidence.
Lord, we need you, we don'tneed us.
We need you inside of us,working through us, so that we
can fully do the work that youhave already prepared in advance
for us to do, father.
I pray that we keep you frontand center.
I pray we meet you each day inyour word, lord God.

(15:51):
I pray that when we offend, thatwe seek forgiveness, that we
first seek it from you and thenwe seek forgiveness from the
person that we have hurt.
Lord God, there's a lot of hurtin blended families.
There's a lot of unforgiveness,there's a lot of confrontation
in between ex-people in formerfamilies and that creates unique

(16:13):
challenges.
That creates some loyaltyconfusion, I suppose with the
kids they want to honor both oftheir parents, but they don't
know how.
And step-parents, we get caughtin the middle of that because
we are the physicalmanifestation of a former
relationship that went way wrongand that isn't going to get
back together again.
God, we know that your merciesare new every morning and I pray

(16:35):
we cling to that truth.
I pray, we cling to you.
I pray that we come before youeach and every day, that we lay
our burdens at the foot of thecross, because we know that your
yoke is easy and your burden islight, father God.
So we pray for the wisdom andthe strength and the
perseverance to keep movingforward.

(16:58):
The theme that Bill and I havethis year is joy, peace and
contentment, and that's what Ipray right now for you Joy,
peace and contentment.
Even if every single thing isgoing wrong right now, even if
all the tires on the car havegone flat, I pray for your joy,
peace and contentment.

(17:18):
I pray that you remember thatyou are a woman of influence and
that God has gifted you withpower from on high, that he
calls you to be a woman afterhis own heart.
I pray that you are, I praythat you seek him every day and
I pray to reconnect with youreal soon.
God bless you, take care.
