What happens when comedy crosses paths with political upheaval? We unpack how Tony Hinchcliffe's controversial set at Madison Square Garden, as featured on the Kill Tony podcast, unexpectedly resonated with Puerto Rican communities, potentially igniting a political awakening. Through humor and roasts, we probe the delicate balance between being funny and being offensive, especially in the context of Puerto Rico's sociopolitical issues. As fans of comedy, we appreciate the skill of making light of serious matters but recognize the need for context and sensitivity, especially when roasting touches on the lived experiences of marginalized communities.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
asia.
Are you familiar with kill tony?

Speaker 2 (00:02):
no, tell me more okay , kill tony.

Speaker 1 (00:05):
It's an awesome podcast because I am a fan of
roasts uh, you know I am.
I I feel like this is what welove about norm chad shout out
to norm chad, gambling mad withnorm chad.
He comes from a.
He comes from a place where yougot to be able to make fun of
your everybody.
Right, we're still.
We're still reeling from, uh,tony hinchcliffe's set and

(00:27):
what's been fascinating now, even getting a couple of days
removed from it, is that peoplethat don't know what kill tony
is his set at madison squaregarden.
Tony hinchcliffe, uh, I thinkthe net net of it is he might
have just woken up the wholeentire country of Puerto Rico to
get, to get their, their peepsin Florida and in Pennsylvania

(00:49):
and everywhere to vote.
Bad bunny is putting shootingout the bat signal.
So I think roasting this isthis is kind of an important
thing that I want to talk about.
I think roasting and and Iunderstand they say well, the
first amendment, and how comeyou guys are so soft?
Now, one thing is that a setwhen you're there and everybody
understands you're there forroasting.
It's another thing when youhave text 555 to fascism, you

(01:15):
know, and to me, that it's apolitical rally and I think
that's where he tweeted out.
You know, you people don't havea sense of humor and I think the
sense of it all is exactly whatwe have.
You know, we have a sense ofwhen something's really funny
and Don Rickles could come inand mow down a room.
Norm Chag could come in and rowdown a room.
He wouldn't stand in front of apodium like that and do what

(01:40):
happened at that event.
No, and do what happened atthat event?

Speaker 2 (01:44):
No, and I think that it's all fun and games when
you're roasting and there's nolike ill intent you know beyond
it, yeah, but I think whenyou're already dealing with an
island like Puerto Rico that isalready dealing with being
treated like garbage and trash,it's not so funny.
At that point you know Like itbecomes.
It's a dagger.
And not only that it's one ofthe most beautiful places on the

(02:07):
entire planet.
We have the most beautifulbeaches, the most beautiful
mountains.
Every time I'm there I find anew waterfall, a new magical
place with beautiful littlecookies and birds, and I'm just
like this is paradise.
And now I understand why the USloves it so much.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
Yeah, sure, yeah, it was a good acquisition back in
the day, wasn't it?
Yeah, it was smart for theportfolio.
I think the one thing thatpeople aren't still talking
about enough is it's look, I'm aTony Hinchcliffe fan too.
I like his comedy.
I think what he's been kind ofput through on the sort of
political correct side of thingshas been not cool in a lot of

(02:44):
ways.
Political correct side ofthings has been not cool in a
lot of ways.
Um, and I think challengingpeople's, you know
uncomfortabilities, is that'swhat we love.
We like, we're kind of leftiesthat love that.
But the what nobody's talkingabout is the hate that then
continued to come out from rudygiuliani, from from tucker
carlson, who could?
He knows where she's from, heknows where her parents were

(03:08):
born.
You know the Samoan.
It's designed to be ignorantand hateful, right, and that's
the part you know.
And Grant Cardone, you're justlike all these rich guys.
They're advocating for theirtax rate.
They're not advocating forhelping you get ahead.

(03:29):
Grant Cardone is one of thoseguys who just sells these
courses.
I don't even want to get intoit because I actually have a
family member that went throughthat the Grant Cardone course
and the experience was horrificand so yeah.
But point being, why are thesepeople up there spewing hate and

(03:51):
then juxtapose it over kamala, who is talking about look, I'm
here to get to work on the to-dolist on helping people and this
is how we're going to do it andlaying out a plan?
That's what the other thingkills me.
People say she doesn't planplans all over the place.
You just gotta.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
You just gotta have to be open to listen to what it
is and right and most of it onthat side, I think, is all based
on self-interest.
Right there's because there'sno collective interest coming
from that side.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
Yeah, it's a very yeah it's anything and that I
think that's at the crux of it.
What is so different?
It'd be one thing if it wasmitt romney and he was getting
people like excited about youknow, hey, we're gonna lower
your taxes and stuff like thatbut this is, this is, uh, it's
just, it's very hateful callingher names, telling, saying that
you know that people, the enemyof the state, are democrats.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
It's just, it's just hateful and it's yeah well and
and you see the the misogyny andthe hatred coming through.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
Yeah, yeah, that's the Tucker thing and it's extra
because she's a woman and she'smixed, and it's just if they
really Never underestimate themisogyny.

Speaker 2 (04:59):
Yeah, and if they really wanted to play fair, they
would at least come at it witha level of respect to say hey,
you know what?
We're going to attack her inevery single possible way, her
policies what she's done as avice president, but we're going
to leave the woman and the mixedpart off.
But no, no they're just goingstraight for it.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
Well, it's thinly veiled, because the woman hits
our attack in her IQ when theyknow she is an accomplished.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
Absolutely.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
Crazy.
They're scared of her intellect.
That's what it is, and so theyhave to.
What do you do when you're abully and you're scared of?

Speaker 2 (05:37):
it.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
You say oh, you're ugly right.
When it's the super hot girl.
Or you say you're stupid whenit's a woman that clearly is
about to outsmart the pants offof you.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
Well, I mean, why don't they just nip it in the
butt and everyone takes an IQtest, and then we just have all
the scores?
Yeah, yeah, you know, let's getgrants, let's get trumps, let's
get commas.
Cat man.
We could probably put someanimals on there honestly and
get some higher IQs.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
You remember that cognitive test Trump took and he
was like I passed it.
You know I got A plus it Womancat and the same as what An
amoeba.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
Yeah, anyways, I digress.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
Yeah, no, I think we're excited about what I think
here in the studio there's nextdoor to the campaign, there's
just nothing but good energy andpeople that are.
They're just getting to work.
So you know, kind of again, ifyou want to get involved, we
have it all in our show notesand you know, even like lauren

(06:38):
was here yesterday doing a hitwith, I think, a uk press
station, lauren, uh, pure retro, shout out to lauren from our uh
episode last week.
But all of a sudden we have allthese dogs around the office
that we're.
We have our own wonderland.
Yeah, yeah, let's make sure tocheck out the socials that we
have and you can kind of uh seethe adventures of all the pets

(06:59):
