Welcome to another peaceful episode of the Sleepy Scriptures One-Year Bible. Tonight, we continue the Gospel of Matthew with chapters 16 through 23, read gently from the King James Bible and accompanied by calming background music to help you relax, reflect, and rest in God’s Word.
In these chapters, Jesus begins revealing to His disciples that He must suffer and die, teaching them about true discipleship and the cost of following Him. We witness the Transfiguration, hear the parables of the kingdom, and listen as Jesus lovingly warns against hypocrisy and pride. Each passage draws us closer to the heart of our Savior — humble, compassionate, and steadfast in His purpose.

Highlighted Verses:

  • Matthew 16:24 — “Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.”
  • Matthew 17:5 — “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.”
  • Matthew 18:20 — “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”
  • Matthew 22:37–39 — “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind… Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.”
  • Matthew 23:12 — “And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.”

As you listen tonight, may these sacred words bring calm to your spirit and draw your heart nearer to the Lord’s peace and wisdom.

God Bless.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
