What happens when the baton of leadership has to be passed on? How does one let go and trust the successor to continue the journey?

Drawing wisdom from the biblical story of David and Solomon in First Chronicles 28, we delve into the nuances of leadership transition - a challenge many of us face in our professional or personal lives.

Often, we struggle with letting go of what we've initiated, especially when it's something close to our hearts. But sometimes, like David, we need to pass the baton to the 'Solomon' in our lives, who may very well be God's anointed for that role.

Lastly, we'll continue to remind ourselves of the power of the Word of God, drawing lessons and insights from it daily.

So join us for this journey, and don't forget to engage with us on our social media platforms - because every voice matters.

So let me just get started bysaying I'm so glad you're here.

Those of you all who are on theFacebook streets we're on
Facebook, linkedin, youtube, twitter and also on Paradec Live

So good morning to all of youall who are watching us on on a
PDTV Please love, like and sharethe video, because that helps

(01:01):
other people to be able to seeand they don't kick us off the
YouTube streets.
So all the admin stuff's outthe way, but today is going to
be a tough conversation.
Good morning, if you're onFacebook, I can't see your name,
so forgive me for that, buttoday is going to be a tough
conversation for a lot of us whoare believers or Christians or,

(01:22):
quite frankly, all of us whobelieve in the word of God, and
so this is going to be ateaching session, not
necessarily a.
You know this is.
This isn't going to be a.
This is going to be a teachingsession that all of us really
need, so the title for today, our discussion today, is called

(01:42):
Transition of Leadership, andI'm going to be coming out of
First Chronicles, 28.
But obviously, before we do that, I want to just start off with
a prayer.
Lord, god, we just thank youfor giving us another Thursday.
We thank you that you've givenus the mercies of the day and
allowed us to see another day, opening our eyes, or God and
wherever we are watching from, whether it's live or on the

(02:05):
replay.
Lord, we just thank you forblessing us with the opportunity
to hear your word.
And so now, lord, as always, Iask that you will take over this
call and it be your will.
Teach us what we need to hearand we need to see from your
perspective, lord, and not mine.
Amen.
So I'm also going to read outthis prayer before I get started
.
I'm sitting all up y'allbecause, like I said, this is

(02:27):
going to be one that's going tochallenge your flesh a little
bit, and so, because this isgoing to challenge your flesh,
we got to set it up right, right, okay, and allow the Holy
Spirit to take over.
So I'm actually just going toread out release Psalm 143.
I use the ESV Bible, as you allknow.
So Psalm 143 this is verse, verses eight through 10.

(02:50):
I'm just going to read it outand then, for those of y'all who
are new here, I will switch to.
You know, the Bible verse willtalk about it.
If you have comments, drop itin the comments.
As you're following along, Iwill share my screen, so if you
don't have your Bible, don'tworry about it, and then we'll
close your prayer.
That's how we roll Again.
Psalm 143, verses eight through10 in the ESV version, and this

(03:14):
is, for us, just releasing.
Before we go into this lesson, let me hear in the morning of
your steadfast love, for in youI trust.
Make me know the way I shouldgo, for to you I lift up my soul
.
Deliver me from my enemies.
Oh Lord, I have fled to you forrefuge.
Teach me to do your will, foryou are my God.
Let your good spirit lead me onlevel ground, amen.

(03:37):
So we're releasing that becauseI want us to be in the space of
coming under the Lord and hisword, to understand things from
his perspective and asking Godto show us the way that we
should go, not what Shelley says, but what he says because I'm
dealing with it too, alright, alright, so so the way I want to

(03:58):
set this up before I startsharing the word and share my
screen, when I when I postedthis out, I was saying that this
the reason I'm looking at firstChronicles 20.
This is a time of when Davidwas passing the mantle to
Solomon and this was a reallydefining moment in biblical
history because it was this timewhere David was giving all of

(04:22):
this really profound insight.
He, you know, mentorship, someof the responsibility of
leadership that David had.
So, as you are Thinking, aswe're hearing this word, I want
you to think about this whetheryou're in a leadership position
today.
When I say leadership, I'm nottalking about job title, okay,
I'm talking about Skill set, ofbeing a leader.

(04:44):
So what.
You could be an analyst, youcould be a customer service rep,
you could be a janitor, ateacher, a doctor, vp, whatever
it is.
So, from that perspective, Iwant to think.
I want you to think about aleadership position and and
really gain some wisdom from howthe Kind of the impact of a
well-prepared leadershiptransition happens.

(05:06):
Even thinking about thinkingabout this you know I was
studying the word Transitioning, even if, like, you've been
given a really great project andnow you got to hand it over to
somebody else.
So there's a transition periodand sadly, there are a lot of
people who have to Transition.
Even their jobs is someone elseOkay.

(05:29):
So, like I said, this, thisone's gonna, this one's gonna
make us think a little bitDeeper, but we're gonna.
We're gonna talk throughDavid's charge and how you know
how he had to transition, basically, what he started.
He wasn't chosen to build thetemple and Solomon wasn't, you
know, david's choice.
It was Solomon was God'sanointed.

(05:50):
So a lot, y'all are sitting inthe seat where you know maybe
something is being transition.
You started it and Laura's likeyou're not gonna finish it, I'm
gonna transition it to somebodyelse.
So that's what I mean about, let's be clear about you know,
leadership from a skillperspective, not a job title
perspective, all right.
So that's the eyes and earswe're going into, and so I am
going to share my screen so thatyou can walk with me through

(06:14):
first, chronicles 28, and again,I use the ESP version.
If you use something else, that's all right.
So so let's move through this.
I'm not gonna do the entire, not gonna read it word for word.
I'm gonna try to move us aroundfor the in the interest of time
, but just to help you tounderstand some of the
background.
What was happening is David hadpulled together all his

(06:35):
leadership team.
I'm gonna use it in in ourterms Okay, he's basically
pulled together all theofficials of Israel, officials
of the tribe.
He pulled to his, pulled outhis leadership team together.
Okay, together with the palaceofficials, the mighty men and
all the seasoned warriors.
Okay, this was a, this was aCEO town hall, all right, so
he's pulling everybody together.
And then he rose to his feet inverse 2 and he said Hear me, my

(07:00):
brothers and my people.
I had it in my heart to build ahouse of rest for the Ark of
the Covenant of the Lord and forthe footstool of our God, and I
made preparations for thebuilding.
So just think about this pauseright here.
A lot of us had Visions ofthings that we, you know, we had
in our heart that we were gonnabuild something out.
Maybe you were gonna build this, you build this incredible

(07:22):
family.
Maybe you know, that was yourthing.
I'm gonna.
I'm gonna build up this likeincredible family, or I was
gonna build up this business.
I was gonna build up this, thisjob that I'm in, right, or I'm
gonna build up my purpose, butbut what David is saying?
King David is saying here, Ihad it in my heart to build this
thing right, but God said to meinversely, you may not build a

(07:44):
house for my name, for you're aman of war and have shed blood.
Yet the Lord, god of Israel, chose me from all my father's
house to be king over Israelforever.
So, even though you know, davidwas, you know, called to be the
king over Israel, he wasn't.
The Lord didn't anoint him tofinish the job.

(08:05):
Okay, he was.
He was the starter, not thefinisher.
He had the vision, okay, but,but essentially, for he was, he
chose Judah as leader and in thehouse of Judah, my father's
house, and Among my father's son, he took pleasure in me to make
me king overall Israel.
And verse five it talks aboutand of all my sons, he has

(08:25):
chosen Solomon, my son, to siton the throne of the king of the
Lord Over Israel.
And he said to me, meaning youknow, god said to David it is
Solomon, your son, who shallbuild my house and my courts,
for have chosen him to be my sonand I will be his father.
Y'all think about this from our,I guess, worldly perspective,

(08:47):
or how we're living life rightnow.
Right, so the Lord put you in aposition again.
Doesn't matter what your jobtitle is, right, the Lord put
you in a certain position.
You had the vision and the Lordis like listen, you're not
gonna finish what you started.
I've selected and and thinkabout it in this, in this

(09:08):
Situation, I've selected someoneelse to carry out what you
started, right.
And so from that perspective, you know the Lord is saying it's
Solomon.
So now he knows.
So some y'all have you know.
You're in the position whereyou started again.
You started in this job andyou're not getting the promotion
.
You built this function andyou're not getting the promotion

(09:29):
.
You get it.
I mean you, you solve thecustomer, the customer deals, he
brought in the most customersand you're not getting the
promotion because the Lord hadselected someone else to take
that on.
Okay, so again we're talkingabout Transition to leadership
and in verse 7 it talks about Iwill establish the kingdom
forever if it continues in mycommandments, and, and so this

(09:51):
is the Lord really talkingthrough David, david's charge to
Israel, as he's talking to themabout.
Listen, I started this, butwho's going to finish?
It is Solomon.
And what happens here?
As you go further down intoverse 9, now you have what David
is charging to Solomon.
This is the, the transition.
A lot of a lot of folks, orbelievers, or Christians, will

(10:13):
call this a Transition of amantle, right?
So in verse 9, david is nowtalking to Solomon, and you,
solomon, my son, know the God ofyour father.
So now he's mentoring him andserve him with a whole heart.
So what is he doing?
He's setting Solomon up forsuccess, even though David is

(10:33):
not going to finish out what hethought he was going to finish
out.
Right, he's now mentoring andcoaching him with a whole heart
and with a willy mind, for theLord searches all hearts and
Understands every plant andthought and y'all.
This is another thing to pauseon, because when you know if
you're the Solomon, if somethinghas been trans, just transition

(10:55):
to you, right?
This is also a kind of awarning for you.
This is a coaching period foryou.
So if, if you're being givensomething, part of even being a
leader, right, a servant leaderis to understand that, no matter
what, serve serving him, serving God, you know, with a
willing mind, because God startsas a nose every plan, every

(11:17):
thought, every deed.
And so he continues to coachhim and says, if you seek him,
he will be found by you.
Meaning seeking, like goingafter God, asking God, what are
you know, what?
What are your?
What do you want?
What me to do in this situation, lord, how do I resolve this,
this issue on the job?
How do I resolve this thing forthe, my family?
Something you know, seeking God, you know, wanting to

(11:38):
understand from the Lord'sperspective, not yours, right,
making it.
You know his plan, not yours.
And the board says if youforsake him, he will cast you
off forever.
That's a warning.
Be careful now, for the Lordhas chosen you to build the
house for this century.
Be strong, right, be courageous, right and do it so.

(12:00):
So again, we have David, youknow, basically saying you know,
I'm not the one that God choseto finish out this vision that I
started, but as a leader, andI'm giving the charge, I'm
giving mentorship and coachingSolomon, I'm setting him up to
be successful.
And then it goes on and itshows how David even provided

(12:21):
all of the plans.
So, verses 11 through 19 Well,he gives him literally all of
the plan, all the resources, allthe tools, all the support to
set Solomon up to be successful.
So, again, if you're in thatjob and you know your boss comes
to you and says, you know, I'mgonna, I'm gonna try, I'm gonna

(12:42):
take this from you and I'm gonnagive it to somebody else, don't
go off saying, oh no, you know, don't go in your flesh Again.
You have to understand thatsometimes these things happen,
but it's always working out foryour good.
And if you're in that positionwhere your boss is telling you
to train a new person, maybeyou've been on the job for 20,

(13:02):
30 years and you know, you knowyou're thinking, well, I'm great
, I'm gonna have to Transitionthis to somebody who have.
You know, they just joinedthree days ago and I should be
all of those fleshly things thatthat we're doing, fighting each
other.
You know, here's the examplewhere David is setting up
Solomon to be successful.
He's giving him all thecoaching, the mentoring that,

(13:24):
the tools and the resources.
And if, if you are a Believer,if you are trying to walk this
life out as a Christian or abeliever of Jesus, if you really
truly are trying to to be morelike him and be in him, then
Then, literally, you have tomodel some of these these things
right.
You have to walk out life in adifferent way.

(13:46):
You can't.
You can't react the wayeverybody else reacts.
So so David gives the charge.
He starts off with somecoaching.
He basically is praying overhim for success.
He's setting him up, he'sgiving him all the resources and
tools Verse 19,.
I love this.
He says all of this.
He made clear to me in writingfrom the hand of the Lord, all

(14:08):
the work to be done according tohis plan.
So David wasn't hiding anysecret process that he had.
I wrote that I made thisprocess 20 years ago and I'm not
giving it to nobody.
No, he literally is giving himeverything, everything so that
Solomon can be successful.
Okay.
And then he closes, david, saying to Solomon, his son, be

(14:30):
courageous and do it, don't beafraid.
So now he's giving himencouragement.
So here again it's anotherleadership principle.
It's being encouraging to thatperson, right.
So he's telling him do not beafraid, don't be dismayed, the
Lord is with you, he will notleave you.
Y'all, some of the days thatyou're having, when you're going

(14:51):
up against you know, going upagainst some things, right, come
back into this word and look athow, look at this example of
what we call transitioning toleadership, right, how God wants
us to model out the way that wetreat each other.
Again, it doesn't have to justbe on the job, it could be in
your family.
There are people who aretransitioning family businesses,

(15:12):
all of those things, right?
So just thinking about fromthat perspective, transition of
leadership.
So there's a couple more notes.
I just stopped sharing becauseI wanted to make sure I'm not
missing anything in the chat.
And, again, like I said, feelfree to drop your notes, but
there's some things that Iwanted to share that I picked up

(15:34):
from this lesson, and there'sabout five of them and I'm gonna
share them real quick, likeokay.
So the first thing, when youthink about transition of
leadership and again I wannamake it clear, it has nothing to
do with your job title, I'mtalking about your skills.
It doesn't matter what job youare in, it doesn't matter if
you've been on the job.
You've been working for oneyear, two years.

(15:56):
Some of us don't have theseskills and we're building it up,
okay.
But from this scripture, first, chronicles 28, there were some
things that stood out for methat I wanted to share with you
and maybe it resonates with you, maybe it's just an
encouragement for me.
So the first thing is that Davidmade sure that Solomon was set

(16:17):
up to be successful, right?
So again, david started thisvision.
He wasn't chosen and herecognized and respected the
fact that he wasn't gonna bechosen to finish this thing out.
So some of y'all are in jobswhere you're not chosen to
finish this thing out, meaningmaybe you're being promoted to
something else.
But it was your vision, it wasyour project, it was your client

(16:41):
, it was your sales call, it wasyour deal.
Like all of a sudden it's yours, right.
But what happens here is thatDavid really made sure that the
person that was coming behindhim was set up to be successful
and, again, as a believer, thisis why I said this is gonna be
hard for the flesh, because someof y'all are being moved out of
jobs.
Maybe you've been laid off andon the way out they're telling

(17:06):
you to leave the notes or set upa transition plan, and in your
flesh you're like I don't wannado that because look what
they're doing to me.
No, that's not what the word, that's not what the word is
instructing you to do.
The Holy Spirit is gonna promptyou to do things from God's
perspective, not from our flesh, not from our reaction.

(17:28):
So making sure that whoever iscoming behind you is set up to
be successful.
That's one of the leadershipprinciples, okay.
The second thing is that y'all, not every vision that we carry
is meant for us to execute.
I have so many visions andideas and I've learned that a
lot of them are seeds that Iplant that somebody else is

(17:51):
gonna water and somebody else isgonna harvest.
Not every vision that I carry, not every vision that you carry,
is meant for you to execute.
It could be something that's avision that you have now that
that's gonna be executed on oracted upon or harvested
generations behind you, okay.
So just understand that.

(18:13):
The third thing I wanted toshare, if you don't know, in
second chronicles, solomon hasthe opportunity.
God asked Solomon because hesaw his heart, and so God asked
Solomon what does he want?
Swim in the dream.
And Solomon didn't ask formoney, solomon didn't ask for
resources.
Solomon asked God for wisdom.
So I encourage you, if you'rein a leadership job, role, skill

(18:38):
, whatever it is ask, you know, asking the Lord for wisdom to
help you to make some of thesetough decisions that you will
have to make.
We all have to make toughdecisions, so asking God for
wisdom.
The fourth thing is that Y'allwe have to understand the
importance of a smoothtransition, and the test is

(19:00):
going to come when you're losingyour job to somebody else.
You have to understand theimportance of a smooth
transition your exit, your exit.
So I know, on social media okay, I'm sure folks are going to be
upset with me, but I know it'sbecome a trend on social media

(19:20):
to have a good I quit thingwhere people are literally
making videos and running it onTikTok Like it's a thing.
It's become a thing wherepeople leave things and they
don't care how they leave things.
It's more about getting likesand clicks on a video they made
and showing how funny it was orwhatever, how they left.

(19:44):
I'm telling you, as a believer, you've got to understand the
importance of a smoothtransition and that test is
going to come to you when you'relosing your job or you're
losing your project, or you'rebeing put in a position where
you're being forced to let somethings go.
Smooth transition, okay, goddoesn't operate in chaos and
that test is going to.

(20:05):
If it didn't hit you yet.
It will, but your response tothat test is going to determine
how you're treated the next time.
Right, you're the one who's theSolomon and not the David.
And the last thing is, this isan invitation for us to really
think about the roles and theimpact of our leadership
transition on the people thatcome after us.

(20:28):
This here, right, this is howwe reflect.
Use this, go back in firstChronicles 28 and think about it
and ask the Lord to reveal whathe wants you to see.
But this is an invitation toreflect on our roles, what we're
doing, and our impact and theway we transition to the people
that are coming after us.

(20:48):
And again, not just on the job, because, exactly, thank you for
that, bringing Kingdom culturein the workplace.
And so this is so important, because a lot of us are talking
about how we want to buildgenerational wealth, and we want
to.
You know, you've got to learnhow to transition, because if
you're trying to buildgenerational wealth, or you're

(21:09):
trying to, you know, help yourfamily in any way, shape or form
beyond you, right, meaninggenerations beyond you you're
going to have visions for somethings and the Lord is going to
say well, somebody else in thefamily is going to take that on,
and you got to learn how totransition smoothly and set that
person up behind you right, who's coming behind you, so that
they'll be successful, right, and so that is a.

(21:32):
That's another lesson.
So if you're if you're in thecrowd, that's saying I want to
build generational wealth, Iwant to teach my kids, to teach
their kids.
You better go on, go back inthis first Chronicles 28 and
really see that model behaviorfor how you transition, your
leadership right, your vision, how you have to let some things
go.
How do you treat people whenyou're, when you're not, the one

(21:54):
finishing out something thatmaybe you even started?
How do you bless people behindyou, whether you want to walk to
or not?
So those are the hard truthsthat I wanted to share with you.
I really encourage you to goback in the first Chronicles 28.
I hope this bless you y'all.
This was like I said, this wasa hard teaching, but I really
hope this blesses you.
We need to.
We need to be able to come up alittle bit higher.

(22:17):
I am not interested in folksthat that are just saying I'm a
Christian or just spouting outdon't throw scripture.
I want to see the seed.
I want to see how you respond.
I want to see how you speak topeople.
I want to.
That's what people around usare looking at.
I say this all the time.
You don't have to tell meyou're a Christian.

(22:38):
I can tell by the seeds thatyou leave.
I can tell by how peoplerespond to you.
I can tell by your own actions.
You don't have to be, in anyway, shape or form, the person
who is with a pitchfork in theoffice.
People can tell who you are byhow you treat each other.

(23:01):
I'm going to close this out andpray, lord.
We just thank you again foranother Thursday.
Lord.
We thank you for your mercy.
We thank you for this lesson, lord, lord, I ask that you will
just now release all of thesewords and all that you've shared
with me, lord, that you'llalign it with their hearts.
Lord, god, for anyone who'sstanding under this sound of my

(23:22):
voice, who needs a word or needsencouragement, or needs
guidance, lord, god, I ask, lord, that you take over Holy Spirit
.
This is your ground.
This is your ground.
I ask now that you will blesseveryone that have heard me this
morning and encouraging them, lord, god, to go and chase after
you and not me.
I thank you that you haveglorified yourself through me.

(23:44):
I thank you that you havedemonstrated your power through
your words.
I thank you that you areblessing us.
I pray over everyone who isbrokenhearted and confused or
hurt by the loss of someone whowasn't a David, by someone who
treated them badly in atransition, whether it was a
family member or colleague orboss from before.
I pray, lord, god, for thosedreams that have died because

(24:07):
the transition was terrible.
I pray over those folks whohave lost sight of you and
stopped believing in you becausethey've gone through some bad
experiences, lord, that theireyes will be open so that they
will not repeat the behavior ofwhat happened to them before.
I ask, lord, that you will justgive us your mercy for the rest

(24:28):
of this week.
Thank you, lord, for thisplatform, and I bless everyone
who is listening.
Amen.
Y'all, teaching was good thismorning.
Like I said, if it didn't hityou, it hit me.
Go back and read the word and Iwill be back next week.
