How do you tell the difference between fear and intuition? In this episode, we dive into how to listen to your inner wisdom—the voice within that knows—and how to build a deeper sense of self-trust, compassion, and embodied clarity.

This is a continuation of last week’s conversation on wholeness, and we’re expanding the topic by exploring the somatic and creative tools that help you turn down the noise of fear and turn up the volume of your intuition.

You’ll learn:
🌱 What inner wisdom actually feels like in the body
🌱 How fear and the inner critic try to override your intuitive voice
🌱 Somatic practices to reconnect with your intuition: breathwork, movement, inner child work, and sensation tracking
🌱 Creative practices like intuitive writing, morning pages, and art to access your inner truth
🌱 Reflection questions to guide your journey

This episode is your reminder that you don’t have to force your way into burnout—your body, breath, and creative expression can guide you home.

you're in the right place.
Let's take a deep breath andlet's dive in.

(00:44):
Welcome back to the podcast.
If you are new here, I'm Rae.
I'm a somatic coach andbreathwork facilitator.
And if you aren't new here, welcome back.
I'm so glad that you're tuningin for today's episode.
So front desk items, before wedive in, there is an Instagram

(01:08):
live series.
I mentioned it in last week'sepisode that I am hosting.
It is just for the month of May.
It's every Tuesday.
If you can't tune in live, youcan catch the replay and on that
series I'm sharing littletidbits and concepts and ideas
from the Return to Soul Retreat, which is coming up in October.

(01:29):
So if you have any questionsabout the retreat or about the
Instagram Lives, you can headover to Instagram, follow me
there and you can check out theshow notes for links about the
retreat.
So let's dive into today'sepisode.
So I wanted to build on thisidea of listening to your inner

(01:52):
wisdom and I had done anInstagram live on this a few
weeks ago and I realized that Ihave more to say on the topic.
So here we are and I think itbuilds nicely on last week's
episode really listening to yourinner wisdom and allowing that

(02:13):
to be a part of building thatself-trust, building that
self-compassion and thatself-knowledge that we also
talked about in last week'spodcast episode.
So your inner wisdom is likethis voice that has a knowing

(02:33):
and it is inside, and sometimesit is super loud and other times
it's super quiet and it feelslike out of reach.
And I've experienced both andwe've definitely all had this
experience before where you justknew something whether it was a

(02:54):
decision or maybe it was thatsomething was or wasn't going to
happen.
It's like that voice that youhear inside that is undeniable,
it is very clear.
There is no, maybe it is like ayes or a no, and it's very
clear and loud and easy tounderstand once you give

(03:18):
yourself the time and space tolisten.
And so, if you want to turn upthe volume of that inner wisdom,
that inner voice, and you alsowant to turn down the volume of
the inner critic or fear.
I definitely can relate to bothof them and I want to share a

(03:41):
few ways that you can do either.
So one that's like connectingyou more to your intuition, and
the other that is turning downthat volume of the inner critic.
That can be just as loud.
So the first is reallyconnecting with your breath.
So that could look like breathwork.

(04:02):
That could look like pausingand taking three deep breaths.
That can look like doing anintegrative session, a
meditative session, somethingthat's longer, something that's
shorter.
It doesn't have to take up, youknow, a full hour when you
connect with your breath.
It can be something quick andintentional, even something like
three minutes, even somethinglike three minutes.

(04:29):
Giving yourself the time andspace to connect with your
breath and be in an experienceof stillness will really allow
that inner wisdom to the volumeto increase, because you're
really quieting the noise there.
There's so much noise that weexperience.
We're in a consuming world, whether it's podcasts or TV or

(04:52):
social media or scrolling TikTok, you know.
Whatever it might be, there's alot that we're being exposed to
and a lot of information that'scoming in, and that information
can muffle the sound of likeyour guide and what your inner
voice sounds like.
And so having a practice withyour breath really can return

(05:17):
you back to that place of beinggrounded, being in your power in
your own energy, protectingyour energy, cleansing your
energy.
There's so many differentbenefits of breath work, but
those are just a few.
There's so many differentbenefits of breathwork, but
those are just a few.

(05:37):
The second that I've been reallyloving recently and something
that I've definitely beenincorporating in my work over
the years but I plan toincorporate it a bit more in the
future is intuitive writing.
I love and I've started towrite even more having a writing
practice of some sort.
So this is also calleddifferent things.
It can be called creativewriting.
Maybe you've heard of morningpages before.

(05:59):
Free writing, journaling, really allowing yourself the
time and space to express streamof consciousness, will really
allow that inner critic to takea back seat.
And what's really cool is, onceyou get into this practice of

(06:21):
stream of consciousness, writingthe sound of your intuition and
the sound of your inner wisdomthe volume of that goes way up
and the volume of your innerwisdom.
The volume of that goes way upand the volume of your inner
critic goes way down.
And in those moments when theinner critic does arise, this is

(06:41):
tool number three is to meetthe arising.
So meet the fear, meet theinner critic, meet the voice,
meet yourself with what isarising in your life experience.
It's part of the humanexperience and instead of
pushing it away or shutting itout or trying to make it wrong,

(07:03):
really allow yourself to movethrough the fear, move through
this experience of the innercritic in the body, somatically,
so allowing your body to knowthat it's safe.
You can do some sensation, association, inner child work,
movement, breath, meeting thearising and allowing yourself,

(07:25):
either independently or withsupport, to move through what's
coming up for you with your ownpacing, your own way, your own
intuitive way of moving throughsomething that's arising.
So when you're allowingyourself to meet yourself in the
fear and move through it in away that feels good for you,

(07:45):
that's also going to increasethe sound of your intuition,
because you're moving through anexperience intuitively, you're
connecting with yourself, you'remeeting yourself exactly where
you're at in that moment andthat can look like meeting
yourself in fear, anxiety, shame, doubt, grief, anything that

(08:07):
might be arising for you andmoving through it somatically in
the body at your pace.
Then the fourth part of this isallowing yourself to meet your
wisdom, your inner wisdom aswell.
So giving yourself the abilityto listen to that nudge, listen

(08:27):
to that voice, listen to thatintuitive hit and give it a
place to go, give it a place toland.
So one way that I love to dothis is in the notes section of
my phone.
I have an organized notessection of my phone and I just
have it categorized by you knowdifferent things that feel good
to me.
I added a new thing in therecalled wins, so it's like things

(08:52):
that I'm celebrating.
Just the other day I think thisactually might've been yesterday
or two days ago I woke up inthe morning and I had a
miscommunication happen with oneof the people that I work with
and I could have let this momentreally like ruin my day.

(09:15):
I could have really gottenstuck in it, got stuck in the
fear, got stuck in what wascoming up for me, feeling angry,
feeling down, and I reallyallowed myself to move through
it in a way that felt good forme.
And then I also realized andthis is how this section in my

(09:39):
notes came that was titled winsI also realized it was like
super early in the morning Iwant to say it was like 8.15
when this 12 o'clock noon when Irealized this that there were
so many incredible things thathad already happened that day
that I didn't even realize werehappening.

(10:00):
Like, my mindfulness was likeso far gone out the window
because I was so, uh, triggeredfrom this experience.
And then I realized, oh, thereare actually a lot of wins that
I had today already and it'sonly noon and this is like an
incredible day and I'm like whoa, like how am I not celebrating

(10:22):
these things that are also goingon?
So just having that awarenessgave me even a little bit more
safety.
To meet the arising.
I was like, okay, it's meetingthe rising, meeting the rising,
meet the arising.
And then okay, now I actuallyhave more access to see things

(10:43):
differently, like maybe I wouldhave gone through the whole day
without even noticing what wasgoing on.
So, meet the wisdom as well, give it an outlet.
I like to do this in the notessection of my phone, but you can
do this.
Any form of expression, anyform of art, writing, poetry.

(11:07):
I like to do it here on thepodcast as well, just like
really allowing my intuitiveideas and my intuitive voice to
come through.
But it can look, like, you know, different for everybody.
So just giving yourself anoutlet for your inner wisdom as
well.
And then, lastly, reallyallowing yourself the time to
pause, so this kind of buildsoff of number one and number two

(11:31):
, but really checking in withhow much time you have with
yourself to be still and justlike be in stillness, and that
will also allow those, thatintuition and that sound of that
inner wisdom to build.
And I always say again, thisdoesn't have to be like a long

(11:55):
experience.
This could be something thatyou're like fitting in in your
morning routine or in the middleof your day or your evening
routine, but we are in aconsuming world and it's moving
very fast, and so givingyourself that time and space to
pause, to breathe yourself, thattime and space to pause to

(12:19):
breathe, uh, one tool that I'vebeen loving recently is
something that one of my friends, uh, told me about.
It's called screen zen and it'san app on your phone and you
can basically give it all thesedifferent parameters, like you
make the parameters, but ithelps to limit, like, how much
time you're on your phone, andfor someone like me I'm an
entrepreneur in business and thereality is like a lot of that

(12:41):
is being on my phone, whetherit's social media or on my
emails or texting or in WhatsApp, or a lot of it is being on my
phone.
So this app has been so helpfulfor me.
I absolutely love it so Ihighly recommend it.
But it is just one example oflike I was noticing that the

(13:05):
amount of information I wasconsuming was muffling my
channel, like my central channel, and I really wanted to stay
true to myself and I reallywanted to like be in my own
energy and my own ideas and myown creativity, and so for me,
that looked like having thislittle app on my phone that
helps me um, you know, limitwhatever I'm doing on my phone.

(13:26):
So that's one, just one example, and so all of this I share
with you, because that voice ofyour inner wisdom, your inner
guide, is there, is accessiblefor all of us.
A lot of the work that I do withmy one-on-one clients and in my
group sessions as well, isreally connecting people with

(13:48):
the sound of their inner wisdom.
I believe that you know exactlywhat your body needs, exactly
what your mind needs, exactlywhat your soul needs, and a lot
of the times it's not aboutreinventing anything.
It's really about rememberingwho you truly are and seeing
past the illusion, seeing pastthe fear and allowing your inner

(14:13):
wisdom, the voice of your innerwisdom, to come through.
So some questions that I wouldlove to leave you with is what
does it feel like in my body totrust myself?
When do I hear the sound of myintuition the loudest and when
is it the most quiet?
And what would I do if I deeplytrusted myself?

(14:36):
So I hope today's episode wassupportive for you, really
tuning in and hearing andlistening to the sound of your
inner wisdom.
This is something that we willbe doing on the retreat in
October, the Return to Soulretreat.
This is foundational for allthe work that I do, but it's
really bringing those threepieces together of that

(14:59):
self-trust, that self-compassion, that self-knowledge and moving
through an entire weekend ofwhat that would look like.
So I'm really excited to bringyou this retreat.
