Hello and welcome to
the Spandex and Wine podcast.
I'm your host, robin Hackney, and I'm so happy that you're
here.
This podcast is a place forconversations about balancing a
healthy lifestyle and beinghappy more specifically, happy
hour.
Together we'll explore allthings wellness and wine.
I hope you learn a little, laugh a lot and, along the way,
(00:22):
know you're not alone on thisbalanced wellness journey.
Ready to jump in?
Pour something in your glassthat makes you happy, because
it's time for spandex and wine.
Hey friends, it's me, robinHackney, coming to you with the
(00:42):
info I promised in this week'snewsletter.
So many of you have been askingabout upcoming retreats and I
wanted to share the details, atleast as much as I can share
right now.
There are a few items that Ineed to finish up and get
everything complete, but I willtry to finalize all of that
before next Wednesday'snewsletter.
On April 16th, oh, which is theday after the 15th and not tax
(01:03):
day.
Well, it is tax day.
Also, I'm realizing that it'sbook club night and I need to
finish my book.
I don't know why I'm such aprocrastinator when it comes to
book club.
I mean, I'm enjoying it.
I'm reading way more than Iever have before, and I'm
wondering if anyone else is likethat, and maybe I'm just
wanting it to be fresh in mymind.
I'm just going to go with that.
(01:23):
All right, retreats.
So as I was writing out my plans, I was thinking, hmm, can I
make all of this happen?
The dreamer in me screamed atthe top of her lungs yes.
And the doubter in me is likeis this really doable?
(01:43):
Can you pull this off?
This is a lot, but here's thedeal.
I want to get back into doingmore retreats.
I loved the first three that wedid.
We did Phoenix, then we did theLake of the Ozarks, we did
Smoky Mountains.
So I want to get back to allthat and I appreciate all the
(02:04):
amazing women that joined in andtrusted me on that adventure.
Those adventures I had so muchfun.
Or I have had so much funcreating the wine camp with
Penny and, by the way, we stillhave two openings there.
But I want more.
I want to see more places, Iwant to go on more hikes, I want
to connect with more fabulouswomen.
(02:25):
I want to do all the things andI want to focus a lot of it, or
the majority of it, on fitnessand wellness.
It is very cliche.
I mean, we've all heard it Lifeis too short and in fact today
I attended a funeral of ahusband and dad that left his
wonderful family too early andmuch too young.
So I'm listening to the dreamerin me and I can see her jumping
(02:48):
up and down atop a gorgeousmountain, looking out over the
most spectacular landscape, feeling a deep sense of
gratitude for the ability to bethere, and I want you to be on
that mountaintop with me.
So first up is a retreat thatwill be local, here in Kansas
City.
It will be limited to sixpeople, as it is a very unique
(03:09):
experience, and I'm calling itReset and Renew.
I have designed it to be justthat a reset for your body, soul
and mind.
So you leave feeling renewedand ready to shift into a
healthier, happier you.
So we'll gather for three daysand two nights for some yoga and
meditation, art therapy Don'tworry, you don't have to be
(03:31):
artistic Group coaching and somuch more.
This retreat is for the personthat is ready to make a real
transformation and, because ofthe nature of this event, I
would like to chat with everyoneinterested just to make sure
that it's a good fit.
So I'll be sending out a linkto sign up for a 15-minute call
in my newsletter, and I'm reallylooking forward to this.
(03:53):
I hope that you will considerit All right.
Next up will be more of aspandex and wine style trip.
It'll be fitness during the day, fun at night.
Together.
We will do multiple workoutsevery day with formats ranging
from wall Pilates to Tabata toyoga to resistance training just
(04:14):
a grab bag of fitness.
And you should be ready to moveand sweat on that trip.
And all that hard work will berewarded with a fabulous meal in
the evening, complete with winepairings, of course, and I'm
still working out the date andlocation for that, but I should
have that very soon.
Okay, so get your hiking gearready for September of this year
(04:39):
, because we will be heading toColorado Springs, colorado.
Day one will be probably twoeasy yet scenic trails to get us
ready for the moderate hike onday two, where we'll be gone
most of the day, so we'll havelunch on the mountain or on our
trail, so that'll be super fun.
And then day three, we'llexperience yoga as a group out
(05:01):
in nature, followed by an easyto moderate hike and ending with
group stretching and probably asoak in the hot tub after all
of that hiking.
So this trip is a must foranyone interested in my next
retreat in April of 2026.
Wait for it, wait for it In Peru.
(05:22):
So when I was in fifth grade, Iremember studying about the
Incas and I was fascinated.
Let's see who was it.
I think it was Mr Reagan.
He was my social studiesteacher, gosh, I think.
I hope I'm remembering thatright.
It might just be remembering itbecause he was one of my
favorite teachers and so that'swhy he came to mind.
At any rate, I soaked it all upand it is stuck with me.
(05:46):
I have always wanted to go andexplore the Incan ruins.
So I am doing it, and I wouldlove for you to come along with
me to hike Machu Picchu.
I've recruited Jake Griggs, with Working Order Fitness, to
help plan this epic experienceand, if you'll recall from the
episode with him, that's what hedoes for a living.
He helps people prepare forthese types of events and plan
(06:08):
them, and I am so grateful tohave his expertise to guide us.
I'm beyond excited.
Okay, one more item.
If you got my newsletter, youheard about the pushup challenge
that we are doing at the studio.
I just kind of threw it outthere 11 pushups a day.
I explained it in one of theepisodes as well, but I created
a reel today and it went out andI had so many people respond
(06:31):
that they wanted to jump in onthe challenge.
So I am creating a group forthe next 30 days and, as you're
listening to this, if you'relistening to it as it came out
on Friday April 11th, then thisis day one, but you can start at
any time.
But if you want someaccountability, all you have to
(06:51):
do you can text.
Let's say text push up to913-392-2877.
You know you can reach out tome via email at info at
spandexandwinecom and I can getyou added to the list.
I'd love to have you in on thatgroup.
I want to make sure that youreach your goal.
If you're starting with yourhands on a countertop, let's get
(07:14):
you down to maybe pushups onyour knees.
If you are already doingpushups on your knees, get you
down to maybe pushups on yourknees.
If you are already doingpushups on your knees, let's get
you to your toes.
If you're on your toes, maybelet's get you to your feet
elevated and you're at a declineand you're doing your pushups
Wherever you might be, I wantyou along for the challenge.
Everyone, take care and I willsee you guys soon.
