Must be twenty one and in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland, Ohire,
Michigan Gambling Problem Gambler, Dick Jarady, Mike Kern, Kyle Nunnmaker
John Jansen back in the studio today. If you stayed
up late last night, you saw the greatest performance in
postseason in baseball history, as sho Otani not only pitched
(01:07):
six shutout in and he's had struck out ted, he
also had three home runs, one of them over the
pavilion in right field at Dodgers Stadium. So there was that,
and Mike just looked up that Babe Ruth hit three
home runs twice in the World Series. Reggie Jackson, of course,
and here was that Mike seventy seven. It's three to
(01:27):
one the Dodgers when the Yankees beat the Dodgers at
six in Yankee Stadium, but neither of them was pitching
at the same time, so an amazing performance. We have
Eagles tomorrow at one o'clock. We have some Phillies discussion.
We have college football discussion. James Franklin was the coach
at Penn State last week. Today's in Athens, Georgia on
(01:52):
ESPN Game Day, and his team is in Iowa tonight
on Peacock which is probably a good thing too. Also,
Joe l Embiid last night appeared for the first time
since February and looked pretty good in the six Ers
final exhibition game before they start the season Wednesday night
(02:12):
in Boston against the Celtics.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
Now, no Paul George.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
We don't know if Embid's gonna play on Wednesday or not,
depends on how he reacted to last night.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Boston will be playing.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
Without Al Horford, Drew Holiday Porzingis, and Jason Tatum of course,
is hurt a new player for the Celtics anforty Simons,
who I'm a big fan of.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
We'll see how he does.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
He's a great shooter college football. Last night, Number two
Miami looked terrible. Carson Beck through four picks, including the
game clincher. They lose to Louisville at home. Matt Ruhle,
auditioning for the Penn State job, to not help himself
last night as Nebraska loses twenty four to six at
(02:54):
Minnesota and look bad doing it and us for a
stat The Dodgers, of course, are now one of the
World Series, whether minus two forty five over either Seattle
or Toronto. Seattle didn't win Game five last night. Game
six tomorrow night in Toronto Milwaukee against the four Dodgers starters.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
You ready for this. Kyle got nine hits in twenty
eight Innaes. Wow.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
The era for the starters zero point sixty three.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
They struck out thirty five.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
The Brewers got fourteen hits in thirty six innings.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
They got four runs.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
The Dodger starters in the postseason are nine and one
with a one point four.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
The only one that lost was when Scober went.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
Nuts in Game three for the Phillies and rookie Betts
with the line of the year. After the game last night,
he said, I feel like I'm one of Chicago Bulls
and I'm playing with Michael jord That's kind of where
we are in life. Mike, how are you this morning?
Speaker 3 (03:53):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (03:53):
But he was like three for fifty five before, which
is amazing when you understood, you know, maybe this will
not make Philadelphia fans feel any better.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
I gave it because but maybe the Dodgers.
Speaker 4 (04:04):
Are just the best team and you're the second best team.
And I know that doesn't mean squat, but when you
see what they just did the Brewers, and then you
look at what you did, the Phillies could have won
Game one. Sure, okay, they were up three to two
until three nothing, but.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
I forgot that. You are correct.
Speaker 4 (04:22):
Game two they had the time run in the ninth
in one second with nobody out the uh and Game
four went what twelve Indians eleven Indians? Whatever the heck?
Speaker 3 (04:31):
It went so very competitive, serious first and.
Speaker 4 (04:33):
I know that doesn't make and the shund But what
I want to know is, Kyle, what is Joe's MVP
odds after the last night's performance?
Speaker 2 (04:42):
Did they go right?
Speaker 3 (04:45):
Shame on me? For not having that up. Yeah, Kyle,
we'll do our years.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
He will get your hopes up, and then at some
point they won't.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
We'll do our years. Little college football picks. In a
second start with the Eagles, I came up with a
thought on what happened.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
Here the last two weeks. It finally dawned on me midweek.
So they're at in Minnesota tomorrow. What's a minus two
and a half at the moment half I've.
Speaker 5 (05:12):
Seen lingering around there. Carson Wentz getting the start.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
Carson Wentz starting for the Vikings.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Two okay, minus two, that's a box game at one o'clock.
So let's think about the Eagles previous couple of weeks.
They went to Tampa Bay where they had a great
first half in like one hundred and twenty degree heat
and melted down in the second.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
But how long to win the next week? I remember,
that's the only loss, by the way that the MS
this year.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
Yes, and then the next week they played Denver and
it was really hot here.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
I mean like really hot that Sunday.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
They melted down in the fourth quarter, and then they
went then they had no rest. They went to the meadowlands,
and then they were shot in.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
The second half.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
There's a possibility they were just exhausted in these games.
So now they have a mini since last Thursday. Let's
see how we'll see if I'm right or wrong. Tomorrow
they played Minnesota. Have a full buy they did? They were, Yeah,
that's true.
Speaker 3 (06:09):
They were in London or somewhere over.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
The week before that.
Speaker 5 (06:12):
Yeah, I know we talked about this last week. Are
you shocked by this line at all?
Speaker 3 (06:17):
I not really.
Speaker 5 (06:19):
I feel like it should be flipped the other way.
You think Minnesota I do. For me, it's more so
just the coaching matchup. I just think I think Minnesota.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
It was playing quarterback for Minnesota, Carson.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
Yeah, well that's why the line is.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
Yeah, that's why Mike McCarthy.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
Was playing and had played all year. Minnesota be a
field goal favorite. Yeah, John, your thoughts on Eagles and
Vikings Tomorrow, We'll have a round table on this one.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
Offense has to figure it out.
Speaker 6 (06:44):
Pretty brutal matchup against Brian Flores, especially for an offense
that kind of where is a little vanilla for the
Eagles and they're going up against a scheme and with
Brian Flores, it just has a lot of variety. She
has a lot of different looks, so it's it's gonna
be really difficult. Sometimes the Eagles offense can work just
because it's so talented, but they really need coaching to
(07:05):
step up here and put them in better positions because
Brian Flores is going to throw everything at Jalen Hurts
in this offense.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
So I'm really concerned about that. So you like who?
Speaker 6 (07:14):
I probably like Minnesota because of that.
Speaker 4 (07:20):
My initial thought was, and the Vikings are good. I mean,
I think the Vikings roster is really good. I tend
to agree with John. When I first looked at the game,
I'm like, man, the Eagles should then this is me
stupid and stupid. They should be even because they're the Eagles.
But they haven't played well and whatever, people forget.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
I love this. When they won their first four games,
that's the object is to win.
Speaker 4 (07:44):
They beat four teams, all of which all of whom
which could be in the playoffs. Okay, they've given Tampa.
It's only loss, so again we can look at this.
They played like crap against the Giants, but that happens
in the NFL every single week.
Speaker 3 (07:59):
Why can't it happened to our team? Once? In a while.
But anyway, I this is what I'll say.
Speaker 4 (08:05):
If the Eagles lose tomorrow to Carson Wentz, it will
be it will make the Giants game seem like whatever
you want it to seem like, because it's Carson flipping Wentz,
who hasn't had a big moment since twenty seventeen in
the NFL, and it would be a totally filly thing.
Speaker 5 (08:26):
Kyle, Yeah, I mean I'm leaning Minnesota here, and I
think I think if they lose tomorrow to Carson Wentz,
I don't think they're losing to Carson Wentz. I think
they're losing to the Minnesota Vikings coaching still, But.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
That's not the way it's gonna come Outyle, You're right,
You're absolutely it's gonna the headline's gonna be Wentz. B Tagles.
Speaker 5 (08:46):
Yeah, I mean a lot of time headline. Yeah, it's
gonna it's gonna be the headline. But people that actually
watch the game know that it's gonna be the surroundings
of Carson Wentz. I still think that the Giant game
would be way worse of a loss in the Minnesota game.
I think it's tough sledding going up to Minnesota. Minnesota
still has a really good team. I know Carson Wentz
is Carson Wentz, but look who he has to throw to.
(09:08):
If he just got to get his playmakers the ball,
that's all he has to do. And I know he
tries to do too much at times, which hopefully he does,
and he you know, he throws the ball away a
couple of times and the Eagles come out victorious. But
if he stays in line and becomes more of a
game manager, then I think it's gonna be tough seedting
because I'm really worried about the coaching matchup going on.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
Yeah, I think the Eagles have had enough time to
try to figure out what has gone wrong. And I
think the Giants game was strictly a product of when
it was played.
Speaker 3 (09:37):
Yeah, that's why they were so bad in the.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
Second half of that game. That's my opinion. Again, we'll
find out over time if that's true. I mean, they
look gas, completely gassed. They had nothing in the second half,
and that's not the Eagles. I mean, they're a good,
fundamentally sound team normally.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
Especially on defense.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
I do think the offense will start to score a
little bit. Obviously it's been pathetic. I can't believe Barkley
is not gonna get some holes at some point during
this season.
Speaker 6 (10:00):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
And now that they've had some time to think about it,
we'll see what they can do.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
And then, of course they're off next week, so they
can figure this out.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
But it'd be not better to figure it out at
five and two than then four and three. The good
news is they're in a terrible division where everybody apparently
stinks in various forms. I mean, really, nobody's any good
Now that that I could see a couple of concerns
I would have. The cornerbacks obviously are a huge question,
and now they've got to go up against Justin Jefferson.
(10:29):
Is the is the second year's star? Is he playing
or is his hamstring?
Speaker 3 (10:33):
Is he out? I think I saw where he was
maybe going to play. Okay, because that's obviously John. What
do we hear about it? I haven't heard much.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
They've been they've been keeping that thing back quiet, so
they're desperate for us if he plays. They're still looking
for the second cornerback, but that can all be negated
if they could get a pass rutch.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
Hello, Jalen Carter, is he still on this team.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
I mean, I know he didn't play last week, but
he's been an event most of the season, right, I mean,
am I missing something?
Speaker 4 (11:04):
This is what happens sometimes that people say that you're
the greatest thing since whatever.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
And I'm not saying he can't be.
Speaker 4 (11:10):
But again, the Eagles, the way this team was constructed,
they let Sweat go, they let the other defensive lineman go,
They let people go. And I understood why they let
them go because they got tons of money. But again,
when you have no the same thing on the offense,
they to me, it all comes. Last year they had
the best offensive line maybe in the last twenty years
(11:31):
in football. The pretty Hall and Saquon took full advantage
of it. Yes, it isn't for whatever right now? The
number one defense last year in the whole league.
Speaker 3 (11:42):
This year they don't. Quintchell is gonna play.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
All right, that's huge because he'll he'll cover.
Speaker 3 (11:48):
Jefferson all over the field.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
If not that, Jefferson not gonna get some catches because
he's one of the To.
Speaker 3 (11:52):
Me, I would put him one and one with Jamar Chik. Yeah,
and I'm nuts.
Speaker 4 (11:58):
I disagree about one thing, and I Stotland's may be
one of the best coaches we've heard that I'm not
sure to go to straighten out this run.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
Game, at least to the degree that it was last year.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
Do you know his own pace for hundred one thousand yards?
Speaker 3 (12:13):
That's sick.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
He hasn't had a long run yet. And it's not
because to hit not him. He just has never had any.
But last year, their explosive plays were not pass plays
for the most part, would see our run getting through
the hole and going seven years.
Speaker 3 (12:27):
This year is getting hit three yards in the backfield.
I said it last week.
Speaker 5 (12:31):
He prides his best aspect is being patient behind the
line and waiting for that hole to open up. He
doesn't even have time to look at the vision in
front of him.
Speaker 4 (12:40):
But last year he didn't have to make guys miss
till he was in the second. Now he's making guys
miss in the backfield.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
That's a real problem because the guy's got.
Speaker 4 (12:49):
Another team's watch film. They're not stupid. They're gonna sit
there and go, Okay, maybe we need to do this
and mate.
Speaker 3 (12:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
The fact that Dickerson has either been hurt or out
backed in the right guard is obviously maybe maybe he was.
He helped the center. I think he's playing hurt. And
and look the left tackle a lot, the right tackles old.
He said, look, man, we paid a price for what
we did last year.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
And you know what the price was worth it They
got the Super Bowl ring.
Speaker 4 (13:16):
They were one of the most dominant teams in the
NFL in the this century.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
But it's hard to do it. Yeah again, Yeah, so
I think tomorrow's game is going to tell us a
lot about where the season is going to go.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
Even if they lose, you just want to if they lose.
Speaker 2 (13:29):
Twenty four to twenty one and their competitive season ain't over,
that's fine, you can do that, but you just don't
want to look like the Giants.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
But see, this is where work. This is where I think,
And again I don't know the.
Speaker 4 (13:40):
New offensive coordinator, but when they did this two years ago,
it didn't work. Now I'm not saying it's the same
exact thing because that team was ten and one, But
this is when your quarterback that's getting paid all the money,
maybe you have to turn to him a little and
maybe with you.
Speaker 3 (13:56):
And that's not just jaaling. Let's let him run, tom
let him to run tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (14:01):
All you said, though, John the defensive coordinator of Minnesota,
ain't no dummy.
Speaker 2 (14:07):
You know you gotta get you gotta get them to run,
because then think there's Barkley a better chance.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
Oh for sure.
Speaker 6 (14:11):
Yeah, but Minnesota over the middle, that's the biggest weakness
on defense. They can't stop the run it, which is
kind of odd considering they've been really good with Brian
Floores in that area, but this year they just can't
do it.
Speaker 4 (14:22):
In the last two weeks, they've had a touchdown pass
that they didn't connect on, the one that aj Brown stopped.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
Running a little bit.
Speaker 4 (14:29):
There was a miscommunication with the last week, so that's
two touchdowns that they would have had.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
Yeah, they're not I don't think they're.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
The world is not ending here because it's six games
into a seventeen games and you're gonna beat the Giants
the week after that.
Speaker 3 (14:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:42):
So but yeah, tomorrow, if they win tomorrow, they're in
a great spot because then there'll be six and two
halfway through, because they.
Speaker 4 (14:48):
Will be what do we say last year when they
were two and two and they looked like crap against Cleveland,
But I sat there and said, they're probably gonna win
their next four games because they had and they were
six and two and then they got it together. Yeah,
all right, well I'm picking Eagles to market. I'll give
the two in Minnesota. I hope you're right.
Speaker 2 (15:03):
I can't believe. I know they can't be as bad
as they were against the guys.
Speaker 5 (15:07):
I just think I'm going to my initial thing.
Speaker 3 (15:11):
I'm gonna go with.
Speaker 2 (15:12):
My initial thing when I looked at the line up
was Eagles.
Speaker 4 (15:15):
So I'll go with you. But I understand everything that
Kyle and John are saying.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
Split table on this. That's fine.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
College football first, Let's uh, let's review the James Franklin situation.
As far as we can tell, Penn State is the
first team in history to lose consecutive games, were favored
by three.
Speaker 3 (15:38):
Touchses to split in seventy eight. Is that's true? Oh wow? Yes,
So I hate to see.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
That's the kind of thing that gets coaches fired. And
that's just what happens.
Speaker 6 (15:47):
I know.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
The ad said it wasn't just about the last three games.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
I think what was going to happen.
Speaker 2 (15:52):
Let's say they had gone nine and three this year
and lost all the games to Indiana, Oregon and Ohio State.
He was gonna get fired anyone In my opinion, I
just think because there was such a build up over
this team, and I think the athletic director said, well,
we're three and three, we ain't gonna be nine to three.
Speaker 3 (16:11):
Whi's the point, Let's goach to see we can find
a new coach. Yeah, and no, I just I can't.
I can't stand.
Speaker 6 (16:18):
That like this happens and everybody's like, oh, well, James
Franklin though he was the reason why they're all great,
and you know that maybe the grasses and green are
on the other side, let's stop it.
Speaker 7 (16:28):
They lost back to back games to use CLA and Northwestern.
No coach that has a top five roster will ever
ever survive those two losses ever, so like it was,
it was the perfect time to do it. It was
two horrendous losses against two horrendous teams who you should
(16:49):
never lose to, and if you lose to one, you
can't lose to the other.
Speaker 6 (16:52):
And he lost to both back to back. Any coach
in that position would get fired immediately.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
It was I think.
Speaker 4 (16:58):
The only problem and you're look, we're all sitting there,
we know you're right. The only problem I had was
the way that Craft said it and maybe these guys
say so. But he came out and said we want
to win a national champ Say, okay, well, then why
don't you fire him after Oregon if that's the stance
you're taking, And that's fine.
Speaker 2 (17:16):
And Penn State.
Speaker 4 (17:17):
Hasn't won a national title in forty years, by the way,
but they won.
Speaker 3 (17:21):
They didn't give it to Yeah, okay, that was the best.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
That was the best foot college football team, among the
best I've ever seen. Yeah, but again I covered the
team you play in the league with Ohio State and whatever.
Speaker 3 (17:33):
We can make all it.
Speaker 4 (17:33):
But again my problem was that don't come out and
say that, come out and say, hey, we can't lose
the UCLA Northwestern back the packet said they're not going
to say that, and now they're going now you're gonna
have these five or six weeks where they know it's
going to be Matt Rule who went out and laid
in egg the other night and it is like two
and twenty three. But whatever, I think Matt, give him
at a chance if that's what you want to do. Like,
(17:55):
I got no problem with Matt, but again, this might
be would you say, the most disappointing season of Penn
State like that we've seen in how long?
Speaker 3 (18:05):
Well, yeah, I mean, look the ranked number two.
Speaker 2 (18:07):
And I was always skeptical, as I said to everybody
from the Beacho was I because A the quarterback was
not to me, was just a good player, but not
a great player.
Speaker 3 (18:16):
And beat a coach, right.
Speaker 2 (18:18):
The coach has never been able to win those kinds
of games. He never lost these kind of games before.
Which was that was that was the killer. And the
reality was last year they got to the semi finals
because of who they played, not because of how they played.
Speaker 3 (18:31):
Although they were certainly better.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
Last year, they were one interception maybe away from being
in the national title game again. And they and they
looked this team looked dispirited from the opening game, even
the games they were winning. They never all they played FIU,
Nevada and Goanova.
Speaker 3 (18:48):
But those games, oh yeah, exactly. But again I'm of
the belief. So, yes, it's disappointing. Is a good place.
Speaker 4 (18:55):
This is me And I'm not saying because there's a
lot of teams that don't do that. B Alabama, be
Florida State, b LSU, go play one game.
Speaker 3 (19:03):
One game.
Speaker 4 (19:04):
Now that you have a twelve team playoff, you can
lose that one game.
Speaker 3 (19:08):
Of those games were probably scheduled years before.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
I know, to your point, but again as long I
you and Nevada. Yeah, and that's your warm up for Oregon.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
Yeah, but also a year.
Speaker 5 (19:18):
And going back to John's point of people saying, well,
James Franklin, you know, made this team a successful say,
I disagree with that, because before James Franklin, this team
has always been the team that wins the games they're
supposed to win and can never get over the hump
in the big game. And I think that's always been true,
even before James Franklin was here, in the later years
of Paterno. It's it's always been they can't get over
(19:41):
that hump. And because they always have, you know, top recruits,
and now it's just completely blew the lid off. And
that's why, Dick, to your point, if they went nine
to three, he was gonna get canned anyway, because there
he's hired to get over that hump and has not
been able to do it in the twelve years or
however long he's been there for.
Speaker 3 (19:59):
Yeah, clearly that was gonna happen. I mean it was
just set up that way.
Speaker 2 (20:03):
I mean, it was national title or bust, which is
all of the thing to put your players under. And
you could see the players are playing tight, they were intense.
They just never and I think that's a shame. I
think if they went ten and two. I say it
before the year and I didn't realize Indiana was going
to be this good. But I said, if they lost
to Oregon and lost Ohio State, they'd still get in
(20:23):
the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (20:24):
And I still believe that after now. Obviously they can't
because of the last two weeks. But do you realize
that they could finish under five hundred?
Speaker 3 (20:33):
Sure, no, they're not. I think they're losing. Today.
Speaker 2 (20:36):
I was talking to my buddy, to Steve Jones, to
play by play guy, and I said, hey, can they
get the six?
Speaker 4 (20:41):
You know, he just wants to get the bowl game?
Do you really want to get the bowl game? I mean, like,
does it matter for him?
Speaker 3 (20:47):
It does? He gets paid per game?
Speaker 4 (20:49):
Oh no, Penn State should just pay him the money
and say, here, look, we should have been in a
bowl game. But I mean, if you're Penn State and
let's they go seven and five and your quarterback's out,
he ain't do you think those kids really care?
Speaker 2 (21:02):
I don't know they don't care. I'll take whoever they're
playing in a bowl game. If they get to the
bowl game, I don't care who they're playing.
Speaker 6 (21:09):
More than more than half of that roster is thinking
transfer portal right now, Well.
Speaker 4 (21:13):
I think they want to see what if. You know,
they they might have heard some things about Matt.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
I mean, one of the things they can do, because
they fired their coach early is hire the next coach
before all that stuff takes place, which gonna wait five
weeks now, I did six weeks, I understand. I mean
that's a long time bit. And I would hope for
pets stage stake that Matt rules starts winning some gigs.
I don't think it matters. You think he's getting the
job regard No, I think they're going to give him.
Speaker 4 (21:40):
I think they're going to offer him the job, whether
Matt and I can't see Matt staying in Nebraska.
Speaker 2 (21:45):
For the people that don't know one, Nebraska has the
greatest football facility in the world, including the NFL. It
just was built. It's legendary. It's better than anybody. Wow,
it's incredible. I've seen film of it. It's just amazed me.
But that rolls in State College native. He was a
(22:05):
walk on at Penn State. Uh, he knows the history
of all AD hired him at the AD hired him apparently,
So he's the logical guy, unless like Nick Saband wants
to come out of retirement, which I don't think is
happening or something like that.
Speaker 3 (22:21):
Kirk Signetti is not coming because he just sent a hundred.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
Million dollars to stay. Kirk, you're said to thank you
note to James, Yes he should.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
James really make a lot of coaches a lot of money.
Speaker 4 (22:32):
Look, he was making a lot of money in Indiana.
It wasn't like he was you know, he was getting paid.
But now he's getting paid more, Yes he is. And
how about Dabo's swinging this guy he's gotta get fired first? Well, no,
I guess he doesn't. I mean, look, if you hired.
Speaker 2 (22:46):
Dabo, it would be he's been the four national titles
in one two. It's a big name. It's a big name.
And he's not that old, you know what, He's not
like one hundred years old. That ain't gonna happen. But
that's not a horrible thing. It's an interesting thought, It's right.
I mean, I'm fast by what pac Craft does. And
I don't think this is anybody but Pat's gonna make
us high. He's not hiring us. I know Pat recentably well.
(23:07):
He's not hiring a search mark. He's a former football
player in Indiana. He's been in Ada, Temple, Boston College,
at pet State. I think he knows what he's looking for.
Speaker 3 (23:15):
There ain't no due diligence here.
Speaker 4 (23:17):
I mean he probably has some other names because that
you have to because it's your job.
Speaker 3 (23:21):
Sure there's one name. Yeah, No, I think he wants
Matt rule.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
Look, we're all big fans of Matt.
Speaker 3 (23:28):
What he did at Temple.
Speaker 2 (23:29):
He was so good to me and could not be done.
He was so And look, Penn State is one of
it's the top ten job in college football. There's you
can argue who's won two, three, four, whatever, but they're
in the top ten. They're in the top ten at
college football history with all.
Speaker 4 (23:47):
The better job than Nebraska. And I'm not knocking. I
don't mean that as a knock one Nebraska. If the
Nebraska's problem is geographer.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
But here's the thing, Well, here's the thing too.
Speaker 4 (23:56):
Yeah, if Matt goes to Penn State, Yes, the pressure, Oh,
because your eight.
Speaker 2 (24:00):
D is already said sure, and that's what Matt's going
to get up in his first press compensate. We we
want to win a national national title. Sure, and as
they should.
Speaker 4 (24:09):
But man, when you're in the league with Ohio State
and there's always a couple other teams in that league, Oregon.
Speaker 2 (24:15):
Hours, Oregon, Michigan not easy. There's some squad.
Speaker 4 (24:19):
The way the playoffs are set up now, finishofs.
Speaker 3 (24:23):
You got a shot, you get hot, you get hot
at the right time.
Speaker 6 (24:26):
Yeah, And I think people have been questioning the how
good the Penn State job really is, and just because
of the way the landscape is. It's like, oh, well,
anybody can play anywhere because there's money and you know,
the transfer portal. But Penn State was bringing in top
recruiting classes. They were bringing in every you know, it
was some of the top transfers. Like, it's a better
job than it's a top ten job. It's a better
(24:47):
job than Indiana. Indiana just paid Kurt Signetty like a
ton of money. But Indiana doesn't have one five star
player on the roster. Like, don't tell me that's a
better job. That's not. Penn State can get top five
or our five star recruits, all any of them they want.
They can recruit extremely well nationally throughout the country. It's
not just regionally or in state. It's one of the
(25:08):
top jobs in college football. It's gonna be in the
timing of what coach they can get. Bud, it's a
great you.
Speaker 4 (25:14):
Might be given fifty million dollars. What school does it?
Without blinking, they don't even blink. It's like, you know,
that's what Alabama does. You know, hey, Bubba, we need
to check here for fifty mil. That's true in a
lot of places. Place one of the issues with Penn
Stater is they're just spending.
Speaker 2 (25:29):
They're in the middle of spending three billion dollars on
renovated Beaver Stadium.
Speaker 3 (25:34):
I mean that's a big, big number.
Speaker 2 (25:36):
I mean, and now you're going to pay James Bracklin
something or if you're lucky, he gets a.
Speaker 3 (25:40):
Head coach, he gets all. He's going to get it.
Speaker 2 (25:42):
He's going to get a jot, whether he wants it
next year or whatever he should. I mean, he's been
at college football coach.
Speaker 3 (25:48):
There's no ark.
Speaker 4 (25:48):
He'll be back at like a van maybe a little
higher than a Vanderbilt. He'll be like an acc Maybe
I could see him there.
Speaker 2 (25:54):
They don't get a job. He used to be the
coaching waiting at Maryland. Wait, oh, real day. Then he
took the Vanderbilt shot. Is that guy in trouble?
Speaker 6 (26:01):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (26:03):
I think Locks has done a good job. They've had
two games in a row. They had the land late
last week two weeks ago, they had a wide open
guy to win the game, and then last week the
quarterback missed a wide open guy and would have won
the game.
Speaker 4 (26:14):
I mean one thing with James Franklins. If he get
when you get, he'll win.
Speaker 3 (26:19):
Sure. The question is will he win?
Speaker 2 (26:22):
Yeah, I think when you analyze his tenure, if you're
being fair about it.
Speaker 3 (26:27):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (26:27):
He walked in and when the sanctions were at their
word situation. Because O'Brien's first year, he had a lot
of really good players program, they had a lot of
success up there, and then by the time James got there,
the first couple of years.
Speaker 3 (26:44):
It was a nightmare.
Speaker 2 (26:45):
And and then he gets Saquon Barkley, and he gets
mc sorley.
Speaker 3 (26:48):
And he gets all these really good they win the
big gum. Miles Miles Sanders was a pretty high recruit too.
Speaker 2 (26:53):
They win the Big Ten and in like his third
or fourth year, and then unfortunately.
Speaker 3 (26:58):
He could after that, they just couldn't be in Ohio State.
Speaker 2 (27:01):
And then Michigan started to get one weird thing about
Penn State, Dick, and they never seem like they developed
these really good quarterbacks, like Hagenberg was supposed to be
this guy and then he was this guy was supposed
to be that guy.
Speaker 3 (27:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (27:15):
I mean, if you think about the history of Penn
State football, the only guys that ever I mean made
it in the proses quarterbacks.
Speaker 3 (27:23):
Collins played in the Super Bowl for the Giants.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
Todd black Ledge was a very good college quarterback, but
he was a very average NFL quarterback. Did anybody come
up with another one? I mean really really in the
in the history of the Curry might Curry's definitely thing
I can think best. Yeah, I mean, it's it's kind
of look how many running backs though they sent and
linebackers and the linebackers for it, and now rush rush
(27:47):
guys like the guy on the Giants you got or
not Saque the guy who's on the Packers now Micah.
Speaker 3 (27:52):
Yeah, they've had no shortage of great NFL players. Jack
Ham's a legend.
Speaker 2 (27:57):
Some offensive lineman too, they've sent some off.
Speaker 3 (28:00):
Me h, yeah.
Speaker 6 (28:01):
It makes me kind of though that maybe they start
going after quarterbacks in the transfer portal potentially instead of
because what's happening is they're getting like five star recruits
at quarterback. At least Drew Aller was the NFL prototype,
but you have to develop them and sometimes they don't
develop into that, and more they're they're fit for the
NFL than they are for college football. I think, like,
why why not go after And I think Indiana did
(28:22):
this really well. They went after Francisco Mendoza, who was
great at Cal and then all of a sudden he's
been one of the best quarterbacks in college football. I
think going after the transfer quarterbacks, and they have the
money to do it, and they have the pedigree to
do it, they can get a really good quarterback to
go there. But I just think that has to be
the route for them because they have they have whiffed,
and I think that was James Franklin. James Franklin's biggest
problem is he whiffed on the biggest quarterback he ever got,
(28:43):
and he really didn't get top quarterbacks because Trace McSorley
wasn't all that talented. Sean Clifford wasn't all that talented.
Speaker 4 (28:50):
They were the guy who was supposed to be the
guy until Temple sacked them ten times.
Speaker 3 (28:56):
He wasn't by Franklin he was. He was Bill o
briant that long ago. He's actually geez oh yeah. Then
I guess so Brian hard inherited him his freshman year.
Speaker 2 (29:09):
I think he was gonna come and then O'Brien kept
him his kind of mind.
Speaker 5 (29:13):
Nice, okay, but they have a history of these like
Drew Allard and John Is it just like a development
issue with Penn State. I feel like they just go
down all it's just a long list of Drew Allers.
Speaker 3 (29:25):
Michael Robertson.
Speaker 2 (29:26):
By the way, it was a quarterback at Penn State
who had a good NFL.
Speaker 3 (29:29):
Yeah, quarterback. Yeah, it was a very good NFL player.
Speaker 6 (29:32):
Yeah. And I and I think in this is instance,
you know, Alabama gets, you know, all the top quarterbacks
some of the other top schools.
Speaker 3 (29:38):
George Is gonna get some of the top quarterbacks.
Speaker 6 (29:40):
But even like we're seeing with Georgia, like gutter Stockton's good,
he's fine, but the best quarterbacks in college football are elsewhere.
They're not in Georgia. So and the thing is Penn
State doesn't get enough of them. So if you get
one guy like Drew Aller, you're kind of just hoping
and relying on this one guy to develop instead of
Alabama where they have a multitude recruits and Ohio seat's
(30:01):
the same way. They'll have three four guys. That's why
you hear about Joe Burrow transferring over to LSU, like
all these guys that have transferred out of Ohio State
because they just have a number of quarterbacks and they
can figure out which one is actually gonna be a
good one, and he doesn't have that luxury.
Speaker 4 (30:16):
John two is maybe run an offense that more of
college football runs. It seems like Penn State if you
want to make an analogy maybe to Diagles. I don't know.
Like Diagles run an offense and they win a lot
of games. They won a Super Bowl for crying out loud,
But you look around college football and see what some
of these other teams are doing with their quarterbacks, it's different.
Speaker 3 (30:37):
They Yeah.
Speaker 6 (30:38):
So I actually I think that's more on Drew Aller
than it is the defensive coach because lance Leopold. Just
look at what they did last year with Tyler Warren,
Like they they had a guy that they could do
a lot of crazy things with and dominate a game,
and they did set. I mean, basically, they had to
play where Tyler Warren was under center, snapped the ball
and then scored a touchdown down the field in the
(30:59):
same play. That guy is creative. It's just that I
don't know if Drew Aller is the type of creative quarterback.
And I think it was somebody like Danny Knell, and
I think he gets this so wrong. He basically said
that you need to get an offense that fits Drew Aller,
but it's college football, Like that offense isn't gonna work.
The offense that works with duel or is an NFL
type offense. It's really slow, slow paced. It's concepts that
(31:21):
they probably don't have the personnel for. That's Drew Aller
just has to be a better quarterback because he's in
a great college system. And I think they just need
to find a quarterback that fits it a little bit
more and that can run it. But Lance Leopold is
definitely a creative His.
Speaker 2 (31:34):
College career is over and he will be very interesting.
He's coming up with just had surgery on.
Speaker 3 (31:43):
His head, might not even be ready for like the
combines and stuff. I don't know how long that. Yeah,
I'm not sure either. I didn't I didn't hear a timetable.
We need to take a break then we're going to
get to Is he a first round pick? I haven't
seen it on the field. I don't done.
Speaker 6 (31:59):
Oh my god, but he ends up probably being like
the Louisville guy from last year, this passer of Tyler
Shuck that he probably ends up being a second round quarterback.
Speaker 3 (32:08):
And you just throw a dart on a guy with
NFL trades, Oh my god.
Speaker 2 (32:11):
Yeah, because at times he's got a very live arm.
But again, something was just a miss this year. Whether
he was way off off, I don't know. I have
no idea what it was. It just didn't look right.
And by the way, Kurt Signetti and Indiana, and you
mentioned Mendoza before, that's one of the best coach teams
I've watched in college football forever. This guy is a
hell of a coach. I don't care where he's doing it.
(32:34):
He's done it everywhere he's ever been. Indiana is now
one of the best teams in the country and it's
not remotely. If you watch the game against Oregon, they
were the better team when they threw the pick six
to tie the game. They went right down the field,
score dominated the last quarter of the game. Super impressive.
Speaker 4 (32:50):
You know what the best thing about coaches like that
are they don't care. It's like you said, you said, Sparrier,
Well been, Spurrier did not care.
Speaker 3 (33:00):
Anything.
Speaker 4 (33:00):
Hey say anything, and if you lost, he lost and
he sucked it up and then beat it.
Speaker 3 (33:04):
Next We're playing Florida State next week.

at the sports book.
Speaker 3 (34:57):
We're here till eleven. John j. And is joining us
from the studio where he is running the show College
Football to Day. We'll start in the ACC with two
of four undefeated teams in the league.
Speaker 2 (35:09):
Play Duke at home minus three against Georgia Tech, which
is not only unbeaten in the ACC, they.
Speaker 3 (35:16):
Are unbeaten period. That's a new ESBA game, Mike.
Speaker 4 (35:21):
Yeah, this is one of several games this week where
you look at the line and you're kind of like,
like why, and then you think about it. My initial
thing would be to take Georgia Tech because I think Georgie,
but Duke's at home. You're like, you're telling me this
is for first place in the league. Sure, I would
probably stay away from it because if my initial thing
was Georgia Tech, then Duke's probably to play. But again,
(35:43):
if I would take the points in a game like this,
so I'd probably take Georgia Tech into three.
Speaker 2 (35:47):
It's an interesting matchup other undefeated teams in the ACC,
SMU and Virginia, which is kind of one of the
big surprises they want at Louisville.
Speaker 3 (35:58):
I at love Louisville that day.
Speaker 2 (35:59):
John, your thoughts on Duke and Manny Diaz possibly also.
Speaker 3 (36:03):
Auditioning for the Penn State job.
Speaker 2 (36:05):
He did a great job up there as a defensive
coordinator for a couple of years.
Speaker 6 (36:09):
Yeah, Georgia Tech has kind of been skating by a
little bit the last few weeks. They have a great
running game, especially running with the quarterback Haines King, who
is their leading rusher. Like it's a fun offense to watch.
It's a great college football offense, but it takes its toll,
especially on Haines King. I just think this is a
really great game for Duke. They're at home. It's a
(36:29):
good spot for them after a couple of really big
wins in the ACC coming off of the bye week,
and Darien Mensa, who is the Tulane transfer quarterback for Duke,
has really started to gel with Duke and their offense.
So the last three games points of forty five, thirty eight,
and forty five, I think they put up points and
I think they end up beating Georgia Tech here.
Speaker 2 (36:50):
So I like Duke, I'm taking Christian Laitner Grant Hill
in the Blue.
Speaker 5 (36:55):
God, I will take Georgia Tech here, just so we
don't go full pack Jack, Mike, We're wrong.
Speaker 3 (37:02):
Oh you did take Georgia T. I don't what.
Speaker 4 (37:04):
I wouldn't probably bet the game, but I take the points,
all right, what the hell?
Speaker 3 (37:09):
Yeah, I'll split the table here. Georgia Tech too.
Speaker 5 (37:11):
I do like the way Duke's been playing, but Georgia Tech,
and I'm seeing it at three and a half too,
so even more so.
Speaker 2 (37:19):
And Clemson isn't even like like faw unreal coach, my
coach get to get fired. Soon beats Alabama and I
won't beat any Badama. Uh, this is a man bites
dog spread. If you have said this a couple of
years ago. One o'clock ABC, Vanderbilt minus two and a
half against LSU, and it's.
Speaker 3 (37:41):
It's for real. I mean, Vanderbilt. Is that good? Kyle,
We'll start with you.
Speaker 5 (37:46):
Yeah, I guess I will go with Vanderbilt here at
home as the home favorite. Not not huge on it,
but I'll lean that way. I'll take the home the
home favorite.
Speaker 2 (37:57):
I liked how they played at Alabama. I was impressed.
Lost the game, but they gave him a game and
they were in it most of the way. LSU's offense stinks.
I'm taking Vanderbilt. Give me the Commodorees in Nashville Mike,
I'm yeah, and.
Speaker 4 (38:11):
I mean in a normal state of affairs, I would
look at this game say gotta take llo Shoe. I'm
taking Vandy because I I I like every chance I
get the rooting against Kelly, I take the chance and
Bandy a tough stretch coming up.
Speaker 3 (38:24):
I got Missouri. Yes, the SEC.
Speaker 6 (38:29):
I mean, just look at alabama schedule. Alabama has already
played a tough one and they still have many games
left there.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
Yep, yep, uh, what are you thinking here?
Speaker 6 (38:38):
So LSU in SEC plays so far in three games
is averaging nineteen point seven points per game. That is
not going to win you very many football games in
the SEC. It looks like wit Weeks is going to
play so maybe defensively that does help them, and their
defense has been pretty good. But like I think, like
you said, Dick, that even Vanderbilts in their loss against
Alabama on the road, I thought they're often still moved
(39:00):
the ball. Well, it's just bad turnovers, like things that
just kind of happened when you're on the road in
the SEC. But they're at home and they're not afraid
of any team in the SEC. And Garrett nus Meyer
and the LSU offense looks brutal. They've been turned the
ball over at an alarming rate. So yeah, I like
Vanderbilt a lot.
Speaker 2 (39:16):
Here Yeah, now, I just don't like hell she was
playing this is the next game.
Speaker 3 (39:21):
This is actually a night game.
Speaker 2 (39:22):
But I don't want to thought out there now at
seven forty five on the SEC network.
Speaker 3 (39:26):
Auburn has got to be the unluckiest team in the country.
Did you see that playlist week?
Speaker 2 (39:30):
Yeah, they're going in to go up against Georgia seventeen
nothing and they missed the call. The guy scored the touchdown,
and I don't know why they didn't overturn the fumble call.
Speaker 3 (39:38):
And they because it was Georgia.
Speaker 2 (39:40):
Yeah, and that's it. They did nothing else. So they're
at home against Missouri. They're giving one and a half.
I'm taking Auburn.
Speaker 3 (39:48):
I can't believe they can continue to be this unlucky.
Speaker 2 (39:50):
I watched a lot of the Missouri Alabama game last week.
Speaker 3 (39:54):
Missouri was good. I thought they were solid.
Speaker 2 (39:56):
They weren't quite as good as I thought they were
going to be, frankly, and I think after you get
beat up by Alabama, this is a tough spot to
go on the road for the first time.
Speaker 3 (40:05):
Oh, I'm taking Auburn. Cop.
Speaker 5 (40:09):
Yeah, I'm gonna go with Auburn as well. I know they're,
you know, a couple of unlucky spots there. Their offense
hasn't been you know, exactly stellar, but after a call
like that, I think they'll be fired up for this game.
Speaker 3 (40:19):
I'll I'll take Auburn as well. Mike. There's only one thing,
because I had Auburn last week so brutal. They did
cover last week. They did not know they scored cover.
They scored a late touchdown.
Speaker 7 (40:32):
Ye.
Speaker 4 (40:32):
Yeah, I've gotten a few of those lately. How did
they react off of that? Yeah, we're sitting here, like
the third time this has happened.
Speaker 2 (40:39):
We're sitting here saying, hey, they're going to well, you
know what, maybe those kids just say test it.
Speaker 4 (40:45):
But I'll take them because I took them last week.
I do like Missouri. But you're right there. It's their
first first Rood games were tough and in.
Speaker 2 (40:52):
The middle of October, and it's a night game, and
he's been betting juiced all day and that on the
plane they do that, they.
Speaker 3 (40:59):
Do that on the plane they do and a half
over under John, you're gonna make it unanimous, John or
what do they like her? Yeah, I was.
Speaker 6 (41:06):
I was kind of torn on this one because both
Auburn and Missouri are coming off of really tough losses
against two really good SEC teams. Of Missouri off the
lost to Alabama and Auburn off the lost to Georgia.
So Missouri I kind of liked coming into this a
little bit more. I think their offense is more explosive.
I think bo Perbula has been very good, especially passing
the ball, but this is more of a rushing team.
(41:27):
Hardy has seven one hundred and eighty two rushing yards
nine touchdowns both. Bobe Prabula is a really good rushing
quarterback as well, but Auburn is one of the best
rush defenses in college football, only allowing two point five
to six yards per rush, so that probably doesn't mix
well with being on the road. You can't run the
ball as much. Prabula probably has to throw the ball
(41:47):
a little bit more, and he has been turnover prone
at times.
Speaker 3 (41:51):
So I do like Auburn in this game.
Speaker 6 (41:53):
I think their offense has to find something, but that's
where the luck comes in. That's where if they do
get turnovers, their offense can get in some good situationations.
But yeah, I'm gonna go with the Auburn Tigers Top.
Speaker 2 (42:03):
Ten matchup between the hedges Georgia, I got minus six
and a half.
Speaker 3 (42:09):
Kyle, what are we got now? What times? This game?
At three thirty against seven?
Speaker 2 (42:16):
Georgia minus seven against Old Miss, which clearly was not
paying attention last week when they barely beat Washington State
as thirty point favorites. But they are undefeated. They can score. Uh, Michael,
start with you Georgia seven.
Speaker 3 (42:32):
Like you said, Georgia should have lost last week. For sure.
Speaker 2 (42:35):
They haven't looked like great, not great, but in the
sec sometimes you don't because I would have to take
the seven here. I mean.
Speaker 4 (42:45):
Georgia probably wins are at home, but I got to
take the seven because Old Miss is good.
Speaker 2 (42:49):
They can Lane Kiffen getting seven, Steam can score normal, John,
your thoughts on this contest.
Speaker 6 (42:58):
Georgia's offense has started off very slow in almost every
single game, so I think Ole Miss gets out to
a quick start.
Speaker 3 (43:05):
It's just can they keep that.
Speaker 6 (43:07):
I know last week wasn't a great game against Washington State.
It was a classic like look ahead spot in college football.
So I'm not taking too much away from that. I
actually like all missing this one again. I think they
get a big enough lead to start the game. It's
just if they keep it. But if it's seven and
a half points or whatever the spread is, I'm gonna take.
Speaker 3 (43:24):
That with all miss Kyle.
Speaker 5 (43:27):
Yeah, I think if last week, you know, I think
it's a recency bias spread. I think it would be
closer if they didn't just squeak by Washington State. They
got the win. Move on to this big matchup here.
I like the plus seven.
Speaker 2 (43:40):
Yeah, we'll make it unanimous. I'll take the team that
can score getting seven. I just Georgia's offense just doesn't
too much for me. I don't have any games for
six and zero against the spread this year, but we
know one of them.
Speaker 3 (43:52):
Temple minus eleven at Charlotte. Charlotte stinks. Charlotte stinks. Well, yeah,
at the Owls.
Speaker 4 (44:01):
When was the last time the owl were favored by
eleven on the road?
Speaker 3 (44:09):
Get all over because the line's gonna keep going up.
Speaker 2 (44:12):
So the Owls finished off the Philly week last week
by leading maybe by seven, with under a minute left
four one.
Speaker 3 (44:22):
Everybody knows what happened.
Speaker 2 (44:24):
A quarterback runs for a touchdown, they go for fifty
yards right, Owls loose, untouched, and they went for two.
Good for the Navy coach. I mean, I don't know why.
Undefeated maybe uh in the American which is at the
top of that league, has got some pretty damn good
teams bad Memphis too, way not bad, and the Owls
are one of those not bad squads in that league.
Speaker 3 (44:46):
Yeah, all right, John, you're gonna give the eleven with
the Owls and Charlotte.
Speaker 6 (44:50):
I yes, I'm gonna. I'm gonna lay the eleven and
a half or the eleven. Temple's offense has whatever, twelve whatever.
I just think their offense has been awesome. To Evan Simon,
he is ninety three to one, fifty two, thirteen touchdowns,
turnovers or at least interceptions zero zero interceptions this year.
That helps you win football games. And he's even played
(45:12):
Oklahoma and Georgia Tech and still hasn't thrown a pick.
So taking care of the football while also being explosive
in the passing game. They threw all over Navy, and
Navy's one of the top teams in the American Charlotte,
it's going to be really tough for them.
Speaker 3 (45:25):
To kind of keep up with that. Yeah, I like
on the car.
Speaker 6 (45:30):
I think Temple should be just the way they've played.
I mean, honestly, I think they should be more of
a favorite. Charlotte's been awful, awful off Charlotte.
Speaker 2 (45:37):
They had my man fIF Pogi is the coach for
a year and some games and fired him and they
just stink. And he's back at Michigan where he's going
to be the only undefeated coach in Michigan history. Two
and o one one a home game, then one one
at Nebraska.
Speaker 4 (45:52):
Well, it might get suspended again. You never know when
the coach might get suspended. By the way.
Speaker 6 (45:58):
The American by the way, the top four teams all
Great Navy, Memphis, South Florida, Tulane, and then even once
you get past that easyways look good Army at times. Uh,
and then Temple sitting at one in one of the conference.
But I think that's a really solid one in one
conference team sitting in the middle there.
Speaker 3 (46:15):
So yeah, I love the American issue.
Speaker 2 (46:17):
And one of those teams that you mentioned is probably
getting to the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (46:21):
Yeah, they can if they can run the table. Running
the tables not easy, No, not at all.
Speaker 2 (46:25):
They're going to be taking shot.
Speaker 6 (46:27):
But South Florida already has some huge wins under their belts.
Memphis and Navy are undefeated so far this year. Even
Tulane has been a great program. They they got the
transfer in from BYU at quarterback. They've been predominantly good
at defense for a few years now.
Speaker 3 (46:41):
Yeah, I just I love the Top of the America.
Speaker 4 (46:44):
By the way, that's one of my picks because we're
probably not going to get to this game. Two lane
giving ten to Army John. Yes, I'm lane giving ten lane.
Speaker 3 (46:55):
All right. Uh, here's my team.
Speaker 2 (46:58):
I told everybody about weeks ago, the best team money
can buy. Four o'clock on Fox, Texas Tech minus ten
and a half in Tempe against Arizona State at sun
Double Stadium, one of my favorite venues in sports. You
ever done a game there? Well, I did a couple
of Bowl games there. Yeah, National Talk. Oh awesome fun.
They moved it now, they moved it today. No, No,
(47:20):
they don't play there anymore. No, they played the Glendale
Oh they played it. It's right on their camp when
Florida beat No.
Speaker 3 (47:27):
What I'm asking you is this Arizona State still?
Speaker 2 (47:29):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (47:29):
No, Arizona State Peck. I think they still played.
Speaker 4 (47:32):
I've never covered an Arizona Steak game, but I covered
It's it to me, it's close to the rose Ball,
all right, Like the Rose Bowl is the rose Ball,
you know.
Speaker 3 (47:41):
But ten piece kind of the same thing. Like you
know what's about forty five thousand Stcate.
Speaker 2 (47:45):
It's not real, real big.
Speaker 3 (47:47):
It's it's a cool spot. It's great spot.
Speaker 2 (47:50):
Actually, actually did see the end of an Arizona State
Washington State game. Washington, who was the quarterback from Washington
was drafted behind Peyton. Oh it was Washington State Ry
I saw him play in college.
Speaker 3 (48:06):
I was there.
Speaker 2 (48:07):
I was actually it was in California for the Breeders
Stout League, and then I went to cover Elf cover
and Eagles game on my way home.
Speaker 3 (48:12):
I got there on Saturday night, walked in for the
second half of Arizona State, and I think they I
think it might have been Washington State's only lost thing.
There's still people to think that Ryan Leaf was going
to be better than Peyton.
Speaker 5 (48:22):
Man.
Speaker 3 (48:22):
There were those people. Anyway.
Speaker 2 (48:24):
Texas Tech minus ten and a half. They are killing everybody.
The Red Raiders might they might be the best to
Nobody knows. Anything about him, because that's just the way
minus ten and a half, that's what I have.
Speaker 3 (48:37):
What do you have it down at seven? Really, somebody
must have gotten hurt.
Speaker 5 (48:41):
Texas Tech at Arizona State. I don't know the quarterback
for Texas Tech.
Speaker 2 (48:46):
What about he's he's going.
Speaker 6 (48:48):
To dress but he is not playing. But the backup
has been fantastic too. But Morton is not playing.
Speaker 2 (48:54):
In Arizona State. You know, no, Cam Scataboo. I mean,
I know the the quarterback is still everybody's been hurt
and he's been not that great. It's this just like
stealing money. Texas Tech minus seven, Kyle.
Speaker 3 (49:06):
Yeah, I'll still take Texas Tech minus seven.
Speaker 6 (49:09):
Johnny, I'm taking Texas Tech. And we think of Texas
Tech and their offense has been really good, don't get
me wrong. Love the way that they've looked. Morton has
been great and the air raid stuff just works so well.
They have a really good version of it this year.
Their defense is awesome. They have not allowed a team
to score more than twenty points this season yet. That
includes going up against Kansas, which has an explosive offense.
(49:30):
Utah just put up forty two against Arizona State. Only
ten against Texas Tech, and Texas Tech was on the
road in Utah for that game. So yeah, Texas Tech
defense is great. That the best team money can buy,
I guess. And you've been on it all all year long,
Dicks already. So yeah, I'm all aboard the Texas Tech
Red Raiders.
Speaker 2 (49:50):
Now they wanted to win. They got up the micros
mentioning fat cataloms all that oil money. They have a
bunch of it. Yeah, Mike, your thoughts on the record.
We're not going to go against you.
Speaker 4 (50:00):
No, Just what's funny We all think of certain schools
have lots of money, right, Ohio State, this school, that school,
we can, but there's some schools out there that nobody
kind of SMU got good, Yes, Dallas, Dallas Oil, Yes,
fat cattle.
Speaker 3 (50:17):
Funny how that works.
Speaker 2 (50:18):
But you know all you need is some some alums
with deep pockets.
Speaker 3 (50:22):
Baby, Yep, that helps, It helps a lot.
Speaker 2 (50:28):
How about this seven o'clock f s one U c
l A minus three against my turfs dangerous U c
l A. They they they played dangerous. They wanted Michigan
State comfortably mission.
Speaker 3 (50:43):
I think Michigan State States State sparked a fire. Any
where's this.
Speaker 2 (50:46):
Game at in Rose, Maryland? Is I lead washing it?
But it's on led Nebraska lost both at the end,
I'm taking my turfs one more.
Speaker 3 (51:00):
I'm staying I'm staying away here. I take this nonsense.
I just don't know what to make UCLA anymore. I
get it, you know, they stunk. I get it, and
then they don't. I don't know. I hear how many
people with the Rose.
Speaker 4 (51:15):
Bowl for that twenty seven? I think you're high. Oh
you meet twenty seven or twenty seven seven? Okay, John,
your thoughts on the Bruins and the turf.
Speaker 6 (51:24):
So the total sitting in fifty two and a half,
I think both teams get the thirty in this one,
so I'm gonna take the total. Nico has been incredible
in the past couple of games. I think it just
was gonna take a while. They had to play calling,
change all of that, and I think it's really worked.
Nico is an NFL talent, and then Malik Washington also
looks like an NFL talent as a freshman. So there's
(51:46):
been a lot of points put up between these two
teams in the last few games, and I just think
we're gonna see kind of attract me in both quarterbacks
pushing the ball downfield.
Speaker 3 (51:54):
So I'm gonna take the over.
Speaker 6 (51:55):
And then if I were to take a side, it's
probably just Ucla Nico. Nico's playing out of his mind,
and I think I'm just gonna keep riding that fair enough, cop,
I'll ride with the Turfs one more week.
Speaker 2 (52:06):
Uh quickly on the last three, we already talked a
lot about Penn State.
Speaker 3 (52:11):
This is probably good news.
Speaker 2 (52:12):
At seven o'clock to night from Iowa City, the game
is on peacocky. Fewer people will see it. Iowa minus
three against Penn State. Iowa hawk eyes for.
Speaker 5 (52:22):
Mike uh Over under forty. Typical Iowa game. Gimme Iowa,
Johnny probably the under beef. Yeah, it always is when
the Hawkeyes are.
Speaker 6 (52:32):
Yeah, I'm just gonna take Iowa. I have no idea
what Penn State's gonna look like with their backup quarterback.
iOS defense is still good. Granikowski has been okay for
Iowa quarterback, but even then their offense is great.
Speaker 2 (52:45):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (52:46):
I just Iowa big game.
Speaker 2 (52:49):
I'm taking Penn State State man Terry Smith, legendary high
school coach, legendary player at Penn State.
Speaker 3 (52:56):
At this team back on track, the all time good
guys in sports.
Speaker 2 (53:00):
I'm rooting for Terry Smith seven thirty ABC at home.
Speaker 3 (53:04):
Alabama is playing great.
Speaker 2 (53:07):
I mean, if anybody watch the end of the Missouri game,
that passed that kid through at the end of the game. John,
and I know you've been a big backer. He's now
the leader in the club ass for the Heisman. Bama
mindus eight and a half against Tennessee.
Speaker 3 (53:19):
What do you got, Goyle?
Speaker 2 (53:21):
I have nine and a half now, John will start
with you. I know you've become a big fan of Alabama.
Speaker 3 (53:26):
Yeah that's a large number.
Speaker 6 (53:28):
But what I'm gonna hope for here is Tennessee likes
to get the ball downfield, but their defense stinks and
they turn the ball over a good bit. So yeah,
I just I love Ty Simpson looks so polished. He
looks like the best quarterback in college football right now.
And I don't know if he'd be leading any other
Heisman votes, he's leading mine right now. I think he's
the best quarterback in college football. And he played like
(53:49):
it again against Missouri in a spot that everybody hated.
And it's getting into this again. Everybody doesn't like this
spot for Alabama. It's another top twenty five team they're playing.
They're on a un where they're playing Georgia, Vanderbilt, Missouri,
but Tennessee they give up points and Alabama's outfits has
been great. So like, yeah, the spot's bad, but the
spot's been bad for Alabama for three weeks. So I'm
(54:10):
gonna take the Crimson Tide here and Ty Simpson I think,
just keeps rolling.
Speaker 3 (54:14):
Yeah, I like Simpson.
Speaker 2 (54:15):
I'll take Alabama because they can really score and Tennessee
can't stop anybody. Mike, Yeah, normally I would hate laying
this many points, especially Tennessee's good.
Speaker 3 (54:25):
Sure.
Speaker 4 (54:25):
I love their coach, I love what they try to do.
This is a revenge game for Alabama. They lost at
Tennessee last year. They don't lose a lot at home.
They I think Vanderbilt beat No. I'm gonna go with
you guys a little reluctantly, but I and John I
think you're right.
Speaker 3 (54:42):
Simpson's gonna win the Heisman.
Speaker 5 (54:45):
Yeah, Tennessee's defense is an atrocity and Bama's just been clicking.
Speaker 3 (54:51):
I gotta go with Obama. Here go go full paddle.
Speaker 2 (54:54):
For those interested in the Heisman. Carson Beck played himself out. Yes, yes,
wa wing the quarterbacks of Alabama and Indiana at the moment. Finally,
NBC Notre Dame minus eight against USC.
Speaker 3 (55:09):
Mike, you got the stats.
Speaker 4 (55:11):
Go for it when USC goes east of the Mississippi.
Speaker 2 (55:15):
I believe it is they're they're like one in sixteen.
Speaker 3 (55:18):
But that one win was this year.
Speaker 4 (55:20):
It was they beat some bad team in the Big
Ten or last year Northwestern.
Speaker 2 (55:25):
I think that was it. Yeah, they barely beat right,
I don't even know, but but the record.
Speaker 4 (55:30):
Is just horrible. And Notre Dame needs this game. I mean,
well USC does too. I mean they both think they're
gonna get They both think they have a chance to
get plays.
Speaker 3 (55:37):
But Notre Dame's gonna run the table. I think Notre
Dame's gonna win the game.
Speaker 4 (55:42):
So the question becomes, are they going to cover SC
had a nice win last week and it's a bad
team Notre Dame.
Speaker 5 (55:48):
Notre Dame for me, kuh, Notre Dame for me as well, Johnny,
you know what, I'll actually take the Trojans here, go
for it.
Speaker 6 (55:56):
I think both quarterbacks are really good. The quarter for USC.
My Mayava. I think his name is in CJ. Carr
for Notre Dame. Both have been outstanding so and CJ.
Carr has been kind of a little bit under the
radars just because you don't think of Notre Dame quarterbacks
and Notre Name is only four and two this year
and lost a couple of games against really good teams.
Speaker 3 (56:14):
But CJ.
Speaker 6 (56:15):
Carr has been outstanding, and they have a really great
running back in Jeremiah Love too, so that the USC
defense doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in me, but
I do love their offense in this matchup, and Notre
Dame's defense has actually not been good. So I think
you get a lot of points here and I think
USC keeps it close.
Speaker 3 (56:29):
Two good games seven thirty tonight ABC at.

Dick Charadi, Mike Kern come out a maker here at
the sports book every Saturday morning, nine to eleven. John
Jansen running the show back in the Gambler Studio. NFL
nine thirty Tomorrow morning, Wembley stating the final of the
Foreign Games, La Rams minus three against Jacksonville.
Speaker 3 (58:43):
No pooka nakua? Is that correct? That is correct? A
big deal for the Rams. Mike, you got all kinds
of good stuff for us. What do you do?
Speaker 4 (58:50):
I really, I don't have a good feel for this game.
Jacksonville coming off a loss after a big win, so
they're a little weird. But they and they play there
all the time. This is like I think they were
like their home home away from home. The Rams have
been playing even last week we got pooka. I mean,
I think the Rams coach obviously has a clue and
the quarterback has a clue.
Speaker 3 (59:11):
What is it? What's the line on this? What are
minus three? At three?
Speaker 4 (59:14):
The Rams are given the three they are. I don't
like the game, but if I was leaning, i'd go Jacks.
Speaker 3 (59:20):
I'll take the Rams. Yeah, I'm leaning Rams here as well.
Speaker 5 (59:23):
I liked how jackson Phil finally got Brian Thomas Junior
and volved last week, but still kind of a just
a dud of a game. They still have Davante Adams
if I still if I recall on on the Rams,
so as long as they have them. They got Higbee
and Bob last week, and they got the running back.
I think Stafford will find a way to win this
game here, Johnny.
Speaker 6 (59:44):
Yeah, Jacksonville kind of reverted back to what they have
been the past couple of seasons. And you know, the
quarterbacks making a lot of plays. He's getting outside of
the pocket, but just nothing around him is working. Offensive
line was horrible. They're still dropping a ton of passes.
Brian Thomas Junior included, even though he had a good game,
dropped a really crucial pass. So they really have to
clean all that stuff up. And it's a good scheme,
(01:00:06):
a good offense and they can run the ball. They're
gonna have to run the ball well here against the Rams,
but also they're gonna have to get the ball downfield,
and they just haven't yet. Brian Thomas Junior and Trevor
Lawrence still haven't connected deep all that often. So if
they can feed that out maybe, but at this moment
right now, they haven't, so I'd actually go to Rams.
Speaker 3 (01:00:22):
Yeah. I didn't like how Jacksonville played against Kansas City.
I mean, I never like how Jacksonville plays. It's always
so I keep.
Speaker 4 (01:00:29):
Telling John this, and John keeps telling me I don't
know what on why, which is fine.
Speaker 2 (01:00:33):
Maybe, but they are They're a team that always comes
up short even when they don't something is wrong.
Speaker 6 (01:00:40):
Yeah, yeah, And just it's a lot of little things.
And again I think the quarterback, I think Trevor actually
played really well last week, is just everything around him.
They gave up I think forty five percent of pressures
on his dropbacks, which is like an insane number dropping passes.
It's just it's all over the place. Pre snat penalties. Yeah,
it's it's it's kind of a mess on offense.
Speaker 2 (01:00:59):
Right, We already talked at the top of the show
the Eagles minus two in Minnesota. Boy, there's gonna be
some bags over some heads tomorrow at the Meadowlands. The Jets,
believe it or not, the only winless team in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (01:01:14):
Are favored by a point. No, they're a dog, a
point dog. They're a point dog. Carolina now favored by one,
a home dog against Carol Carolina.
Speaker 2 (01:01:25):
You have a team that's winless and hopeless on the
road against the team that's hopeless period. E t s
Jets in spite of themselves. Yeah, I'll take Carolina. When
I watched it, when I watched the Jets play, they
look poorly.
Speaker 1 (01:01:42):
Coach.
Speaker 3 (01:01:42):
They were so bad last week. Yeah, just terrible.
Speaker 2 (01:01:45):
That's why I'm taking them.
Speaker 3 (01:01:46):
Justin Fields is under just under duress the entire game.
He had no idea what they were doing. Yeah, he
had forty five passing yards last week.
Speaker 2 (01:01:53):
Aaron Glenn looks like he would like to go back
to Detroit like tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (01:01:58):
Kyle, I was thinking Carolina.
Speaker 5 (01:02:03):
But Carolina is bad on the road, as Mike Kurt
Mike Current said at the break.
Speaker 2 (01:02:08):
But the Jets are bad everywhere.
Speaker 3 (01:02:09):
Jets are bad everywhere. Jets have to win a game
this year. They don't have to. They have to.
Speaker 5 (01:02:15):
They're they're let me rephrase that they're gonna win a
game this year. Okay, I think that it's here. They
win this game, They're gonna win more than one game
this year. Don't be so bold.
Speaker 3 (01:02:27):
Wow, John, I don't know if you about that. They
got the Dolphins somewhere. He doesn't him twice? They got
him twice? John, Your thoughts on the Jets and the Panthers.
Speaker 6 (01:02:39):
I think the Panthers being a favorite on the road
is really the only way I can go with this,
and it doesn't feel right. They're running the ball really
well though Rico. Yeah, and I hope they kind of
stick with Rico, not because of my fantasy football team,
but because I just think he's looked better and seems
to fit what Dave Canalis does more than Chewba Hubbard
at times. Uh So, Yeah, I kind of hope they
(01:03:00):
can stick to the run with Rico and then they
have a really good connection with Bryce Young and McMillan. Still,
though they're they've been terrible on the road and their favorite.
It's just off of that. I have to go with
the Jets here.
Speaker 3 (01:03:11):
Yeah. A lot of bags on a lot of heads.
Speaker 5 (01:03:14):
Two weeks from now, Jets at home against Cleveland huge,
that could be their second one.
Speaker 2 (01:03:18):
Speaking of bags on edge, Cleveland minus two at home
against miamis.
Speaker 3 (01:03:24):
That's still two and a half. Two and a half.
Miami is a mess.
Speaker 2 (01:03:30):
Uh Cleveland can't score. Yeah, we we have to pick this.
Speaker 3 (01:03:41):
I can't. I do have it.
Speaker 6 (01:03:43):
I do have a pick in this game. I do
like Cleveland, and that is despite all of the horrible things.
They have still won a football game against Green Bay
even with terrible offense. So I think their defense plays
well this game. They turn two over a bunch.
Speaker 3 (01:04:00):
I saw like that.
Speaker 6 (01:04:00):
But Dylan Gabriel is just he's bad. He is he
cannot play the quarterback position at an NFL level. So like,
I get maybe Chador has some problems, and like I
don't want to go into the whole shedor thing because
everybody he's the most talked about backup quarterback. But Cleveland
has to realize, like, hey, there's another rookie quarterback that
we could probably get a good look at because Dylan
(01:04:22):
Gabriel just it's so clear the dude just doesn't have
NFL talent or NFL traits. He's a five to eleven
quarterback with a middling to below average arm.
Speaker 3 (01:04:32):
It's just that cannot work. And guess what it's supposed
to like be have like fifty mile an hour wins? Yeah,
just what's the overalls? Hey? John? Four John?
Speaker 2 (01:04:42):
Cleveland is one and eight against the spread after a
loss thirty six. So I don't know that only one
in eight they lose a lot.
Speaker 3 (01:04:50):
They lose a lot of it's.
Speaker 2 (01:04:52):
The left nine, it's the one in eight. I mean, look,
Miami has more talent than Cleveland.
Speaker 1 (01:04:57):
You know.
Speaker 4 (01:04:57):
My prediction on this is the Miami coach will not
be coaching the team at some point soon.
Speaker 3 (01:05:04):
It might be after this game. If I don't know how.
Speaker 2 (01:05:08):
Long the letter he's just he's lost it. They get lost.
Speaker 3 (01:05:11):
With with what to it did, whether that thing.
Speaker 6 (01:05:14):
Is just now I am. I am going to campaign
for this the entire season. As things happen with the
Eagles offense and Mike McDaniels looks like's not the least
Mike McDaniel in Philadelphia. Let him take control of the offense.
Get because he is a It's a nuanced offense that
runs the ball really well. So I think sa Quon
(01:05:34):
would do well, but it's just there's a lot of
variety and diversity to it.
Speaker 3 (01:05:37):
It creates open John John.
Speaker 2 (01:05:41):
It won't happen this year.
Speaker 6 (01:05:42):
It won't happen this year, but I'm hoping next year
that Yeah, that that Adam.
Speaker 3 (01:05:46):
Is an offensive consultant after he gets fired.
Speaker 2 (01:05:49):
Someday like the defensive guy they bought in Matt two years. Uh,
wasn't he already on the staff though? Yeah, Atricia he
was doing something though on this non sense?
Speaker 3 (01:06:00):
Uh do I have a no nonsense? Now? I'll take
Cleveland at home.
Speaker 5 (01:06:06):
The only reason Miami looked any put any points up
last week is because of the run game. I think
Cleveland shuts down that run game to it had three
picks last week. It's just an atrocity down in Florida.
Speaker 3 (01:06:19):
And they're not showing up for meetings on time. Yeah,
I don't know what. I don't know what's going on.
It doesn't matter.
Speaker 2 (01:06:26):
New England playing really well, leads the a FC East
at the moment because they have a time Buffalo minus
seven at Tennessee, which as a new coach, I don't
know who it is, but the old coach.
Speaker 4 (01:06:39):
I got I got one year after that was the
bet of the year to me. And I don't know
if you could do this because New England was going
to finish second in the a FC.
Speaker 3 (01:06:49):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:06:50):
Maybe there's not a bet that you can do like that.
Speaker 3 (01:06:52):
I don't.
Speaker 4 (01:06:52):
I don't know because I don't know if the Jets
and the Dolphins stink.
Speaker 2 (01:06:57):
So here you go. Tennessee is for their last ten
at home against the spread.
Speaker 3 (01:07:03):
So if you want to take Tennessee, go ahead.
Speaker 2 (01:07:07):
I'm not.
Speaker 3 (01:07:08):
And Rabel wants to beat them by forty You know
what I forgot about that?
Speaker 1 (01:07:14):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:07:14):
Yes, this will, this will, this will be my what
if I was still alive survivor Yeah, I'm taking New
England minus might Tennesse.
Speaker 3 (01:07:23):
You might not score. They're terrible coy.
Speaker 5 (01:07:26):
Yeah, I mean it's a miracle that the Patriots are
playing really well.
Speaker 3 (01:07:31):
Four and two, not a miracle, that's wrong. He can
coach young quarterbacks quarter.
Speaker 5 (01:07:37):
But with no run game. I mean, Drake may led
the team in rushing last week. You think they would
get that run game going eventually, because I feel like
it would catch up to them if they continue the
season not running ball. Well, I say that just to say,
Tennessee states, I'll take.
Speaker 4 (01:07:55):
That cop they're playing on borrowed time because they're not
supposed to be that good this year.
Speaker 3 (01:08:00):
Anything they do.
Speaker 2 (01:08:01):
I like the fact that they went to New Orleans
last week and won. Yeah, I agree, after they upset Buffalo.
Speaker 5 (01:08:07):
Yeah, I didn't say. I didn't mean to say miracle.
I just it's impressive. It's impressive, and.
Speaker 2 (01:08:11):
Not very impressed with them. Uh John who is the
Tennessee coach?
Speaker 6 (01:08:16):
If you're not, Oh gosh, yeah he got how much?
Speaker 3 (01:08:22):
Let me yeah, let me look it up. The miracle
went over the car.
Speaker 6 (01:08:29):
Mike McCoy, that's right, Chargers head coach Mike McCoy.
Speaker 2 (01:08:35):
He got it thrown in l A.
Speaker 3 (01:08:37):
You got you got a thought on this game.
Speaker 6 (01:08:39):
So I my my betting instinct. And I've seen a
lot of sharps on this too. Does actually want to
go Tennessee? Six and a half points is too much
on the road. The Tennessee fired their coach. You know,
maybe that's a little bit of you know, inspiration, that's
a fire under him.
Speaker 3 (01:08:54):
That's the problem. They stink. I just I don't.
Speaker 6 (01:08:59):
I don't think there's anything on offense there that that
can really be changed. And I know Brian Callahan's gone,
and there could be some better play out of the offense.
Speaker 3 (01:09:06):
I just don't think they have the pieces to do
that though.
Speaker 6 (01:09:09):
And Drake may is playing out of his mind now
saying that the last two games they've been on the
road and they haven't. They won those games and they
played well, but not by a lot of points. So
like this, this game could be a little bit closer
than expected. But even still, Tennessee even isn't what New
Orleans is right now. Spencer Rattler is actually playing somewhat
well cam Ward. It's not Camwart's fault, but the offense
(01:09:32):
just looks terrible.
Speaker 2 (01:09:33):
So the fact of life is this stinky teams.
Speaker 3 (01:09:36):
Cover sometimes, yes they do.
Speaker 4 (01:09:38):
That's and that's the problem. We all know that Tennessee
stinks like a rocket. Science is just the third straight
week the Patriots are on the road. It happens once
in a while, and technic which that usually is a
red flag that you don't play the team. They've fairly
played two home games. They lost their schedules. I'm telling you,
(01:09:58):
their schedule sets up for them to like eleven twelve games.
Speaker 2 (01:10:01):
They lost to the Raiders at home in the opening week,
which looks like a bit of a flute now. And
they lost to the Steelers at home. They're zering too
and hop yeah and they're four and oh on the rope. Wow,
do I have that right now? They beat the Panthers
at home? Also, well, I got that. Patriots shows what
(01:10:22):
happens when you have a coach and a quarterback.
Speaker 3 (01:10:24):
You know what a concept?
Speaker 2 (01:10:26):
Chicago minus five and a half, four and a half,
four and a half.
Speaker 3 (01:10:30):
Soldier Field against New Orleans.
Speaker 2 (01:10:33):
Look, you watch the Bears and you watch Calea Williams,
and you start to realize what the excitement was about.
Speaker 3 (01:10:40):
He's now got a coach.
Speaker 2 (01:10:42):
They have skill players that are big time guys in
he hadfl They went to Washington last week, which was
the beginning of the end for them last year. They
go down the field at the end, they win the game.
New Orleans has been very competitive with Kellen Moore. They
just can't stop anybody. It's their problem. I'm taking the
Bears at Soldier Field given four and a half, Mike.
Speaker 3 (01:11:04):
That's the logical pick.
Speaker 4 (01:11:06):
The one thing I didn't like last week was him
and the coach went off on Troy Aikman because Troy
Aikman said something on the Tell cast apparently that they
didn't think was complimentary.
Speaker 2 (01:11:16):
Dudes, shut up, you haven't done anything in like forever.
Go out and play your games. You won, you're looking better.
Why do you have to bring that into it?
Speaker 3 (01:11:28):
And why I didn't see you start winning it immediately?
Why are you listening to that? Yeah, in fairness, I don't.
Speaker 6 (01:11:35):
I didn't see the Ben Johnson one, but Caleb Williams
was definitely like it was tongue in cheek.
Speaker 3 (01:11:38):
It was it was more okay he.
Speaker 6 (01:11:40):
Was he was having a lot of fun with it
because it was so.
Speaker 3 (01:11:44):
Be possibly go. I didn't see the Ben Johnson Maybe
Ben was having fun with it too. I didn't.
Speaker 4 (01:11:49):
But the way it was reported was that they said
Amen said they were lucky, like there was a play
they scored us because I didn't see it.
Speaker 6 (01:11:56):
It was it wasn't giving Caleb credit for making broken
coverage on defense and it's kind of lucky that happened.
Speaker 4 (01:12:03):
Well, Troy Aikman, I think knows what he's talking about.
Speaker 3 (01:12:06):
The best color analyst in football. I agree with Dick,
that's just observation. That's fine.
Speaker 2 (01:12:11):
I think the Chicago we gotta be careful with Chicago
because now people are going to start.
Speaker 4 (01:12:16):
But I would go with Dick. I'd lay four and
a half and New Orleans again has been competitive. I
give Kellen credit, They're just not quite good enough to
win because their players aren't good enough.
Speaker 5 (01:12:26):
Kyle, Yeah, I mean this is a Bears team. I
said it last week when they beat the Raiders at
the same exact score. This is a team that's finding
ways to win even when it doesn't look great. It's
something they haven't done in the past. But now with
Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams, they are finding ways to win.
And uh I think that continues. I'm buying into the
(01:12:47):
Bears hype a little bit here as a friends playoff team.
I like them minus four and a half here.
Speaker 2 (01:12:53):
Yeah, their problem is a division and yeah, yeah, there's
no Minnesota is really good forge.
Speaker 3 (01:13:00):
From one division.
Speaker 2 (01:13:01):
I guess in theory four team from one division could
make if Yeah, that's the problem. John, you got a
thought on this game for US Bears?
Speaker 3 (01:13:13):
Come on, John? Sorry, yeah, my head the Bears.
Speaker 2 (01:13:17):
You know what.
Speaker 6 (01:13:19):
I'll go Spencer Ratler again some credit. I think he's
playing pretty well. Uh So I'll go Saints here. I
think they keep this game close. Bears have played what
they just won three straight, played well, all very close
games though, and the Saints have been extremely competitive even
against New England and Drake Jake May was playing great
and they still were in that game. So yeah, I
actually think Kellen Moore is done a good job. Not
(01:13:40):
a lot of talent there or quarterback in Spencer Ratler
that people kind of rode off, and you know he's
not going to be an NFL quarterback in Tyler Shuck.
Speaker 3 (01:13:47):
Eventually he's going to start. I don't know if that guy.
Speaker 6 (01:13:49):
Ever is with Spencer Ratler there, he just seems like
he's always going to be better.
Speaker 3 (01:13:52):
And uh yeah, I think New Orleans.
Speaker 2 (01:13:57):
Today, I don't know one team.
Speaker 3 (01:14:00):
You can't go rain. It's gonna be.
Speaker 2 (01:14:04):
As in the Midwest Ofmorrow in Chicago. This Cleveland game,
as it's as, has a chance to be.
Speaker 3 (01:14:09):
Like a mud bowl.
Speaker 2 (01:14:10):
Maybe I love mud balls. You can never get enough
the mud balls. We're gonna take a break and we're
gonna get to the late games and we probably will
have time at the end to talk.
Speaker 3 (01:14:23):
About the NBA team in the city. I think they
still exist.
Speaker 5 (01:14:27):
Please you can say good things about him somewhere Sean
Bernard's ears are ringing.
Speaker 3 (01:14:32):
Yeah, Sean, he deserves a break once in a while.

in Sofi Stadium in Los Angeles, La Chargers minus.
Speaker 3 (01:16:45):
One, one and a half one and a half against.
Speaker 2 (01:16:48):
The team that shall not be named from the capital
city of Indianapolis. By the way, Mike grib a reservation
at Saint Elbo's for the late afternoon of December the ninth,
on my way to Bloomington for Penn stated and may
drive out for that.
Speaker 3 (01:17:02):
There, we can add it. We can add one.
Speaker 2 (01:17:04):
Okay, I got I got one for you here.
Speaker 4 (01:17:07):
Chargers are sixteen and sevens and started last season against
the spread tied with the Lions for the best in
the NFL.
Speaker 3 (01:17:14):
That's impressing. I know they're all banged up with injuries.
Speaker 7 (01:17:17):
But.
Speaker 3 (01:17:19):
And the team that shall not be named is having
a Hell they might right, you could make the case
right now they might be the best team in the
They've played great, no doubt.
Speaker 2 (01:17:28):
I'll just throw that out at you.
Speaker 3 (01:17:30):
You have a pick.
Speaker 2 (01:17:32):
Before I saw that. I hate picking against the team
that you won't name, but I will.
Speaker 3 (01:17:38):
Have no names, no names. I'll go.
Speaker 5 (01:17:42):
This isn't like a true stay away from me, I'll
lean towards the Danny Dimes right on the road.
Speaker 3 (01:17:50):
I'm taking the home team. Jim Harball, the former no
name quarterback back in the day. Oh yeah, star QB
for the true team from the capital city of India.
Speaker 4 (01:18:00):
Tell you what if that team wins this game, I
think people will actually say, for sure, no question, Johnny,
what do you think here?
Speaker 6 (01:18:09):
Yeah, both of these teams coming off the weird wins
probably wins that they probably shouldn't have had. I think
Arizona probably should have won that game. I think Miami
probably should have won that game.
Speaker 3 (01:18:19):
But that's why there Miami and the Cardinals.
Speaker 6 (01:18:22):
Yes, So the big thing now is Joe Walt is doubtful,
so it doesn't look like he's going to play, And
if the Colts can get pressure, they end up being
pretty good, and the Chargers give up a lot of pressure.
So I just think it's probably a good matchup for them.
I think in these defense plays well enough in this game,
and obviously Daniel Jones and the offensive looked great.
Speaker 3 (01:18:43):
So I'm actually going to go with the Colts on
this one.
Speaker 2 (01:18:47):
Denver back home after I don't know what ten days
on the road, right, they came to Philly and then
they moved on to London. They win both games fairly.
Both games are giving seven to the n WY Giants.
Are the NY Giants for real? Mike had this stat
earlier wherever whoever plays the Jets loses the next d
here's this counter one Denver six no versus the NFC
(01:19:10):
since HA started last year.
Speaker 3 (01:19:12):
That means absolutely nothing to it. I know. I'm just
telling you that was fine.
Speaker 5 (01:19:19):
Yeah, I think this is tough sledding for the Giants
going to Denver. Still love Denver's defense. I think it's
gonna be a wake up call for Jackson Dart in
the offense. I like Denver here, even though I'm not
impressed with their offense. I'll still lay the seven at home.
Speaker 2 (01:19:37):
Their offense has got all Jackson Dart has been very fortunate.
He caught the he got tired Eagles squad the week before,
he caught no pass rush. He's getting the best pass
rush in the NFL this week. Not an easy game
to win, but hard to give seven with a team
that can't score either.
Speaker 3 (01:19:53):
I'll pass Mike.
Speaker 2 (01:19:54):
I tend to agree with you.
Speaker 4 (01:19:55):
This is one of those games when I used to
give out teasers a lot, and they this is a
game like I would have teased. I would have teased
Denver down to where they just had to win the
Guinas one because I don't.
Speaker 3 (01:20:05):
Think they're going to lose the game.
Speaker 4 (01:20:06):
Yeah, but I could see the Giants maybe covering this thing.
Speaker 6 (01:20:09):
I don't know, John, I think you handicapped it well.
Dick Girardi that it is going to be the pass
rush for Denver that ends up getting in Jackson Dart's
face probably causes a little turmoil. And yes, there's some
good happening with the Giants, and I think it's okay
that the Giants fans are excited about Jackson Dard, excited
about cam Skataboo. But this is also a team that
(01:20:30):
went on the road and lost pretty bad to New Orleans.
So it's not all there yet. They're all in three
on the road, they're playing a decent Denver team, or
at least at home, good Denver team or two and
zero at home so far this season, and again, the
pass rush just might be too great to overcome.
Speaker 3 (01:20:46):
For the Giants. So I actually like Denver. Yeah, Denver
is very close to Bend six and up.
Speaker 2 (01:20:50):
I mean, the two games they lost, they barely lost
both of them, and one of them a good question.
Speaker 3 (01:20:55):
It was a kind of a bizarre call.
Speaker 2 (01:20:57):
At the end of the one game green Bay minus
six and a half at Arizona seven minus seven Now
at Arizona at bat Parks.
Speaker 3 (01:21:08):
No, what do we have as the quarterback.
Speaker 2 (01:21:10):
To Corby set, Mike, I know you love Arizona. They're
one of your favorite teams.
Speaker 3 (01:21:18):
They are you work irritating, They.
Speaker 4 (01:21:21):
Are always They're the Atlanta Hawks of the of the NFL,
and again, can they stay with in seven?
Speaker 3 (01:21:28):
Sure, anybody in the NFL can stay with in seven?
Speaker 4 (01:21:31):
If green Bay goes out there in lays an egg,
my opinion of green Bay is going to substantially change.
Speaker 5 (01:21:38):
Kyler Murray has not been ruled out yet. I don't
think it matters though I don't like Kyler Marray. I'm
gonna lean green Bay here again. I think green Bay
is a team that still has to figure out some
kinks on offense.
Speaker 3 (01:21:56):
But I just can't. I can't go anywhere near Arizona
and I hate Arizona. I said it last week.
Speaker 5 (01:22:01):
I'll say for the rest of the season, I like
green Bay minus seven on the road.
Speaker 3 (01:22:05):
Here, John, I'm going to go green Bay.
Speaker 6 (01:22:11):
And I think this is another one where it just
past Rush is gonna get after Jacobe Prissett and a
team that really can't protect the quarterback all that well.
So yeah, I'm I don't love it because green Bay's
offense is just a little bit too weird for me.
And even the Cincinnati game was a good example of that.
Cincinnati was kept in that game way too long and
it was mostly because green Bay couldn't score. So I'm
(01:22:32):
I'm going to go green Bay, but I'm very hesitant on.
Speaker 2 (01:22:35):
Time for Jordan Love to start being Jordan yeahs to
or be whoever it is.
Speaker 3 (01:22:39):
Yeah, at some point, look after that fiasco two weeks ago,
the team and where the capital city is finixed. They
are now in no name, no hope, no, get them out.
I don't ever want to talk got.
Speaker 1 (01:23:00):
Don't.
Speaker 3 (01:23:00):
I don't care. Both teams lose. Get them out of
Gannon's gone. Uh late game Fox. This is historically one
of the great rivalries in the NFL. Recently not as much.
Washington minus three at Dallas. I got Washington plus one
and a half? What at Dallas? Yes, Dallas is now favorite.
(01:23:24):
Dallas is favored.
Speaker 2 (01:23:26):
Why did I write down Washington minus three? Either I'm
nuts or that's good. Can you see the look at
the spread for the week? Yeah, I think it opened
at around three Washington. Yes, why did this change so much?
In Dallas's favorite?
Speaker 5 (01:23:40):
Terry mclauren, he's out out. Deebo is very questionable. I'm
gonna make this real week. And Cowboys they this is
the Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (01:23:53):
They lose last week in the game that you sit
there and go at Carolina.
Speaker 4 (01:23:57):
They will win this game because I don't think Washington
and I think they're good, but I don't think they're
all that.
Speaker 2 (01:24:02):
Yeah, I'll take Washington movement of the money. I don't
like the fact that none of their offensive stars are there.
Dallas can certainly score. But Dallas, if they don't have
the worst defense in the NFL, they're right in the haunts,
you know what they are. Washington's ain't real good here.
Speaker 5 (01:24:15):
Yeah, this game, Oh, it's high, it's and a half,
it's a big number.
Speaker 3 (01:24:22):
Dallas could give that up well by themselves.
Speaker 2 (01:24:24):
Yeah, we're talking like thirty to twenty seven to go
over That could easily happen.
Speaker 3 (01:24:29):
Yeah, I'll go over.
Speaker 2 (01:24:29):
There by halftime. Yeah, John, what are you thinking? Dallas
giving one and a half?
Speaker 6 (01:24:33):
Now having a tough time with this one because Trayvon Diggs,
even though he hasn't been playing well, he's out. He
got ruled out late with a concussion. So their defense
is already not great and now they lose one of
their secondary pieces and they're thin in the secondary, not great.
So I it's gonna be a high scoring game and
it's going to be close. But getting cd lamback is
(01:24:55):
huge for an offense that already is moving the ball.
Speaker 3 (01:24:57):
Well.
Speaker 6 (01:24:58):
The thing is, though, for Dallas, they have to score
in the red zone. That has been a problem for them.
Uh and that that can ruin football games for you,
and I think it has for them at times. But
they're at home, so I think, to me, anytime they're
at home, I tend to lean them a little bit more.
Speaker 3 (01:25:14):
Uh. So I'm gonna go Dallas here.
Speaker 2 (01:25:16):
Do you know that guy suffered a concussion at home? Yes,
it was a home accident. I finally came up with
a thought, this is the game. Is gonna end up
forty one to forty one?
Speaker 6 (01:25:26):
Daddy?
Speaker 2 (01:25:27):
Yeah, both the time another half, I just think Dallas
two home.
Speaker 3 (01:25:33):
I think I think else is gonna win.
Speaker 5 (01:25:34):
Yeah, this is a prime spot for Dallas to just
have that weird and then Jerry will bring.
Speaker 2 (01:25:39):
Up Yeah, Sunday Night football San Francisco minus.
Speaker 3 (01:25:45):
Three or minus one and a half, minus one and
a half. Now, no brock Purty still but back Jones
has been fine.
Speaker 2 (01:25:52):
Yeah, minus one and a half against atl which showed
out by routing.
Speaker 4 (01:25:57):
By the way, all those people that told me two
years ago you can't take Bijon Robinson with the eighth pick, Like, like,
why what if you're going to be okay? He might
not play ten years. I get it, he's a running back.
But if he's going to be this good, do you
know who got drafted to pick after Bijon?
Speaker 2 (01:26:14):
I don't Jail and Carter?
Speaker 1 (01:26:16):
How about that?
Speaker 2 (01:26:17):
Which you know? I mean you?
Speaker 3 (01:26:19):
But anyway, it's like Kittle will be back. Hey, here's one.
Speaker 4 (01:26:22):
Yes, the over runner in this game is forty seven five.
Forty seven overs are eleven to oh for the forty
nine ers.
Speaker 2 (01:26:30):
In a game after a loss.
Speaker 3 (01:26:32):
Wow, So I'll take the over. I'll take you yonder good.
Speaker 5 (01:26:40):
I'll take San Francisco here getting Kittle back. It's really
more so for me about the coaching matchup. I not
that Atlanta has bad coaches. I just I'm infatuated with
Kyle Shanahan what he's able to do.
Speaker 2 (01:26:54):
With Atlanta's been getting a lot of love this week, like
Ahl and prime time.
Speaker 3 (01:26:58):
They're great in primetime.
Speaker 5 (01:27:00):
Yeah, San Francisco. It doesn't matter who Shanaan has on
offense to work with. He seems to get it done
and at home in this situation, I'll I'll ride San
Francisco with Kittle.
Speaker 2 (01:27:10):
Let's think about this. McCaffrey was taken real high. Saquan
was taken real high. John Robbinson was taking real high.
I take any of those guys, but they're telling me
you can't do that.
Speaker 3 (01:27:19):
No, okay, I can't.
Speaker 2 (01:27:20):
Atl I'm riding them out. Atl plus three Josh or
plus high.
Speaker 3 (01:27:23):
Money and a half one and a half. Yeah, it
give me at John. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:27:27):
I'm struggling with this game a little bit because I
think there is too much love for Atlanta and Mac
Jones has played somewhat well. It's just that offense with
Christian McCaffrey leading the way is just so good. But yes,
San Francisco isn't as good as it has been on defense.
Speaker 3 (01:27:44):
Injuries, Yeah, a ton of injuries.
Speaker 6 (01:27:47):
So I'm gonna go San Francisco because they are at
home and I believe in that offense. I am very
skeptical about that one though, so I'm I'm probably gonna
stay away. It's just nothing feels right about this game
to me.
Speaker 3 (01:27:59):
It's tough fun.
Speaker 2 (01:28:01):
Monday night football. We have two games again. Yeah this
week Seattle minus three.
Speaker 5 (01:28:09):
Ish Seattle minus three yep against Houston.
Speaker 3 (01:28:12):
This game is in Seattle. Yes, I'll take Seattle, Mike.
Speaker 4 (01:28:17):
I will take Seattle too, But I'll tell you this.
Under Mike McDonald, they're three and nine against the spread
at home.
Speaker 3 (01:28:24):
That's facare. But I like Seattle in this spot. Okay, Yeah,
I like Seattle.
Speaker 5 (01:28:32):
I've been buying into uh donald and this what the
Seahawks offense has been doing all year. It seems like
each week they get they're clicking more and more. I
know Houston routed Baltimore last week. That means nothing to me. Yeah,
it means nothing to me. I like Seattle here at home, John,
I think I do like Seattle as well. At home.
Speaker 6 (01:28:54):
Sam Donald's playing extremely well, and the defense under Mike
McDonald has been good. But I just more SA Darnell
and Jackson Smith and Jigba have been probably the best
quarterback wide receiver duo in all of football.
Speaker 4 (01:29:06):
John, Shouldn't that line like if they're given three, that
means just basically a pick them game.
Speaker 3 (01:29:11):
Shouldn't that line be like four and a half five
or sorry, Baltimore was two weeks ago, Houston's coming off.
Speaker 4 (01:29:16):
Of b oh Okay, maybe that's I just thought the
line should be a look I don't. I don't think
much of Houston at all.
Speaker 6 (01:29:22):
I just I don't either. I just don't think. Maybe
the books yet are all that.
Speaker 3 (01:29:27):
Yeah, that game of the weekend, the last Monday night game.
Speaker 2 (01:29:31):
Uh, Detroit is favored by what six minus six against
Tampa Bay.
Speaker 3 (01:29:37):
This is a hell of a game over Under's got
to be like sixty over under fifty and a half.
That's it. That's it.
Speaker 2 (01:29:43):
I'll take over at Tampa Bay. Plus Mike Evans is back.
Both teams will score. This will be a fun game
to one the Monday night. Baker Mayfield playing great.
Speaker 3 (01:29:54):
Obviously, Detroit is just nobody could stop to light.
Speaker 4 (01:29:58):
Can anybody explain why Baker threw that interception against the Eagles,
because that's like the only thing he did wrong in
like this whole gem.
Speaker 3 (01:30:05):
That's right, Yeah, yeah, right, you're right, you're right. Okay.
Speaker 2 (01:30:08):
The Lions eleven and eleven for eleven after a loss,
So the last eleven times they've lost, they've covered the
next week. But boy, they lost to Kansas City.
Speaker 3 (01:30:21):
They were they off last week. What did Detroit play
last week? They played Kansas City.
Speaker 5 (01:30:27):
Yeah, they played Kansas City and they lost and they
lost thirty seventeen.
Speaker 3 (01:30:30):
That wasn't track of time there. But I'm kind of
with Dick here.
Speaker 2 (01:30:35):
I love and the Lions at home are such it
it's a big number.
Speaker 3 (01:30:41):
I'm not solid Detrich. I don't like Yeah better.
Speaker 2 (01:30:45):
And and Baker just does things like where he keeps
the game close.
Speaker 3 (01:30:49):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:30:50):
I guess if you put a gun in my head,
no weapons allowed, no weapons, you're right, that's true.
Speaker 3 (01:30:56):
Good point sports buck weapons no weapon A yes, no
violence here.
Speaker 2 (01:31:02):
I'll put I'll smack you upside that you're good. Somebody
needs to whether there's that John, I will go with
Detroit here.
Speaker 6 (01:31:12):
I think they're a well rounded team, a little bit
more than Tampa Bay is uh and just coming off
of that loss to Kansas City. That was a tough game,
and Kansas City looks like they're kind of back to
being maybe the best team in football at the moment.
Speaker 3 (01:31:27):
But yeah, playing extremely well.
Speaker 6 (01:31:29):
I just think Detroit's offense still is a well oiled machine.
A lot of weird things that happened last week in
the Kansas City game, but everything gets back on track.
They play well here. I think they beat Tampa Bay
and also cover Kyle.
Speaker 5 (01:31:42):
I'm with you Dick. I like Tampa Bay to cover
I don't know. I don't expect them to win the game.
Let me say that, but just the things that Baker
Mayfield's doing right now, extending plays, running people over for
first downs. If he can continue to do these miraculous
plays just to extend drives, I like Tampa bayto least
(01:32:03):
cover the six Again, I don't expect.
Speaker 3 (01:32:04):
Them to win though we got ten minutes. It starts
on Wednesday night. Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:32:11):
Joel Embiid returned with the exhibition game. We haven't heard
anything about how he feels today. Hopefully he's good.
Speaker 6 (01:32:18):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:32:19):
Sixers at Boston Wednesday night. No, Paul George. Uh, guards
look good, Guards look fine.
Speaker 3 (01:32:28):
It's waiting on McCain. That's gonna be a little bit
of time yet. Right We're.
Speaker 2 (01:32:33):
Rookie looked really good, Edgecombe Tyres Maxi's terrific. H Boston,
you know, not the same team we're used to sing again,
No Horford, no Holiday, no Porzingis, Tatum is hurt. Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:32:48):
They still have White and Pritchard and Brown.
Speaker 2 (01:32:51):
And by the way, to anybody see the coaches versus
media game this week in Boston, No, I did Boston
coaches played the media this week final score fifty seven
to four. Oh wow, yeah, Missoul was like celebrating like
they were pressing the whole day.
Speaker 3 (01:33:07):
You know, Joe, he come come it brings up and
come down. One story and then we'll get to the
six ers.
Speaker 2 (01:33:14):
When I was coaching in Baltimore one year, they had
me coach a school team, a Catholic school team.
Speaker 3 (01:33:19):
I I think it was fifth and.
Speaker 2 (01:33:20):
Sixth graders, and we needed to be like in a neighborhood,
except they put us in the city widely, and like,
our first game is against the Baltimore Rockets, and I'm
watching the layoff lines and I'm going, this is not
gonna end well. Well, it actually didn't start well and
it never got any better. And one guy for the
Baltimore Rockets, who was in like sixth grade, was about
(01:33:41):
three feet tall and he must have had fifty steals. Muggsy, Muggsy, folks, Muggsy,
we lost sixty six.
Speaker 3 (01:33:50):
Knew. I knew you were gonna say, buggsy.
Speaker 2 (01:33:52):
Sixty six to three. And I looked at the score
book editor and who is this guy? I said, I'll
never hear from him again, And Muggsy book at eight
or whatever. He was sixty six to three. So we
lost worse than the media. Dude, I think we made
three free throws. I don't think we ever got the
ball of our half court. The other guy was great,
he never stopped pressing.
Speaker 3 (01:34:10):
Thanks.
Speaker 2 (01:34:11):
I appreciate that, John your thoughts on the Sixers as
we head for another season of God only knows.
Speaker 3 (01:34:19):
Yeah, God only knows.
Speaker 6 (01:34:21):
I think it is okay to be positive that Joel
Embiid was on the floor in a preseason game for
the first time since twenty twenty three. He's coming into
the season healthy, He's going to start the season opener.
That's all great, And also, like the VJ. Edgecomb stuff
has me very excited. It's a very good athlete on
a team that desperately needs young, very good athletes, so
(01:34:43):
it's that's awesome. But Paul George isn't playing the season opener,
Jared McCain's still out. Like I just I want to
see all of them together on the floor first, and
that's that's the big one now. Of course, Joel Embiid
is the biggest one because he's the one that has
primary had these injuries and long term injuries, so it's
great that he's on the floor and that's that's a
(01:35:04):
very good start to this. But I just need to
see it all on the floor at once with these guys.
Speaker 2 (01:35:10):
Kyle, your general thought, you've been as down on this
squad as anybody.
Speaker 5 (01:35:14):
Yeah, there's gonna be exciting moments in the season. They
could potentially be a playoff team if things generally go right,
but it's just gonna be there's gonna be frustration throughout
the season if when it comes to Embiid and Paul George,
because they might start getting a rhythm and then next thing,
(01:35:36):
you know, when Beid can't play because there's no back
to back. So it's I don't see it being much
different last year was. Last year was different because of
the injuries, but I just mean going back to years past,
where any momentum they get in the regular season is
gonna be taken away because Embiid can't play back to backs,
there's gonna be injuries going on. So this is more
(01:36:01):
of just a relaxed outlook on it. I want to
just enjoy watching him be play and do his thing,
but I don't have general expectations when it comes to
the playoffs, right.
Speaker 2 (01:36:11):
I'll believe it when I say it.
Speaker 4 (01:36:12):
Yeah, And I think I'm trying to be optimistic too,
as optimistic as I can be. Sure the East is down.
You have the Knicks, and nobody's talking about the Cavaliers.
The Cavaliers one like sixty games.
Speaker 3 (01:36:27):
At Cleveland's actually the second choice to when the NBA title. Yeah,
but nobody talks about to you.
Speaker 4 (01:36:31):
But then you have Detroit Orlando to look like they
could be good, and the Sixers could be like right
behind that, they could be maybe fighting for a four
or five seed. I don't know what that gets you.
But again, all the matters is when April comes around.
It doesn't you know, if Joe is healthy, when the
playoffs start and Paul George is giving you something and
(01:36:54):
your young players are what we think they can be,
they got a chance to do something. I just hope
it's fun to lot. Yes, Yeah, this has been, It's
been everything. Last year was the bottom. Oh, it was
just brutal. Everybody was hurt.
Speaker 3 (01:37:06):
Maxi's fun. Yeah, he's fine, but you felt bad for Enbliss. Oh.
Speaker 2 (01:37:10):
I was just telling him he wasn't enjoying himself. So
here are the here are the odds.
Speaker 3 (01:37:14):
At the moment, ok See is two to one to
win the NBA title, which is an.
Speaker 2 (01:37:19):
Amazing no team in like six years, eight years in
the second round and nobody's won back to back in
like eight years. Cleveland and Denver next at seven, then
the Knicks at ten, Houston, La, Lakers at fourteen, Minnesota,
Orlando at sixteen, Clippers at twenty, Golden State trying to
(01:37:39):
eat the old guys one more time at twenty.
Speaker 3 (01:37:41):
Five to one.
Speaker 2 (01:37:43):
Atlanta and Dallas at thirty along with Detroit six Ers
are forty to one. Here's my pick at forty to
one to win the NBA title this year. San Antonio
Spurs yar on forty to one. I'm taking the Spurs
to win it all. Have the best young player in
the game and have some of the other great young
(01:38:04):
players in the game. If they're healthy, lookout. Uh Milwaukee fifty.
Boston went from the favorite to sixty to one because
of the injuries. Indiana, which lost their point guard, is
eighty to one. They were in Game seven of the
NBA Finals. They lost their point guard and their centers.
Now in Milwaukee eighty to one. Really Memphis one hundred.
(01:38:28):
Miami won fifty Toronto one fifty, Charlotte five hundred, Bulls Pelican.
Little surprise Trailblazers that the Knicks are Tangs five hundred,
that the Knicks are higher than the Micer's be shocked
to know the Nets, the Jazz, and the Wizards are
all one thousand to one.
Speaker 3 (01:38:47):
They could be a million, they could be a trillion
to one. It doesn't anybody wiz.
Speaker 2 (01:38:51):
At John, anybody jump at at you as a possible
NBA titleist.
Speaker 3 (01:38:55):
If you don't want to take Oklahoma City.
Speaker 6 (01:38:57):
At two to one, is that kind of hard right now,
especially with the Eastern Conference looking a mess the way
it has. And sure, yeah, I had no idea other
than Oklahoma City. I kind of have no idea at
this point, Like I just I kind of just have
to see what what the health is for most of
these teams, and again.
Speaker 3 (01:39:15):
Especially Receive, but they were in two game seven. I
got it, and I got the whole team.
Speaker 6 (01:39:18):
Oh yeah, no, I maybe maybe Denver they kind of
retooled a little bit and Jamal Murray looks really good
in the preseason so far, and he seems to have
kind of kind of worked in the offseason to get
more in shape.
Speaker 3 (01:39:30):
It just looks looked really good in the preseason.
Speaker 4 (01:39:32):
He Denver two years ago was up twenty Yeah, absolutely,
maybe seven and ended up losing by ten.
Speaker 6 (01:39:37):
So maybe Denver. But other than that, nothing really stands
out to me. This is like kind of waiting see the.
Speaker 2 (01:39:43):
State the final run. Nobody's buying that. Too old Lakers.
I think their final rome was twenty two.
Speaker 3 (01:39:49):
Yeah, Lakers with Luca Lebron's one hundred years old. Nobody's
buying that. Yeah, it's it's it's strange. Fun.
Speaker 2 (01:39:57):
Could be an interesting team, yeah, for sure.
Speaker 5 (01:39:59):
I think Houston more of the crap shoot no Van
Eastern Conference. Eastern Conference, I think is where you want
to make your play taking a shot. I'm I'm looking
at the Knicks at ten to one.
Speaker 4 (01:40:13):
Mix at ten, and I like the Caves. The Calves
were seven, right, Yes, but I mean to get to
the NBA five. If you get to the NBA, finally
got a shot. That's why I'm leaning East. I don't
think the Knicks should be ten to one.
Speaker 3 (01:40:27):
I don't think it should be more. No, I think
them in Cleveland should be about to Ye.
Speaker 5 (01:40:31):
That's fair because them in Cleveland are really the only
teams that are consistent from you know who they're bringing
back from last year, and and the Knicks have had
more success than Cleveland.
Speaker 3 (01:40:41):
And the Knicks have made a step each year.
Speaker 2 (01:40:43):
Yes, you got to the semifinals than Eastern they got the
new coach.
Speaker 3 (01:40:46):
Yeah, but I'm looking at it's.
Speaker 4 (01:40:48):
Like, how does Cleveland come back from they were they
were injured a little bit, Yeah, but they looked horrible
they did.
Speaker 3 (01:40:54):
How they rebound from that? Because they got talent. I mean,
Cleveland's got no doubt.
Speaker 4 (01:40:58):
You know, the Nicks have talent, but I don't think
they have as much as Cleveland.
Speaker 2 (01:41:03):
The final question for the show is, and this is
probably the hardest one of all, do the Sixers make
the playoffs?
Speaker 3 (01:41:10):
John? Yes?
Speaker 5 (01:41:14):
Wow, got I'll say yes because of the state of
the Eastern Conference. But to go back to my point,
any championship aspirations are out the window. I'm just looking
for a fun basketball to watch.
Speaker 4 (01:41:29):
Mike, I think the Sixers, I mind, mine's e emphatic yes.
Speaker 3 (01:41:34):
Because of this. Now Joe goes down in Game four,
you know, but but I say it.
Speaker 4 (01:41:39):
But last year, I think if if they had not
stopped trying, I think there was a chance they maybe
could have slid into the play in last year, but
they basically at some point said.
Speaker 3 (01:41:49):
You know what, the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (01:41:50):
Now, we're not stand what you're saying. I'll put this way.
If they're not in the playoffs this year and Joe
plays his fifty games or whatever thinking he's gonna place it, yeah,
something's wrong because then you gotta take dynamite.
Speaker 3 (01:42:05):
That would not be a good situation.
Speaker 2 (01:42:06):
If that happens, you think they're gonna be in the playoffs, Well,
let's talk about the each who's better than the Sixers?
Speaker 3 (01:42:11):
Orlando, New York.
Speaker 2 (01:42:14):
Cleveland, Cleveland, Detroit, Cleveland, Detroit, Indiana. Maybe I don't think so, Boston, Maybe, Maybe.
Speaker 3 (01:42:22):
I don't think Indiana with that maybe yeah, do what
they got you honest, sure absolutely they could by the
rest of it. The rest of it is, I think
the the the worst the Sixers could be is like
sevent eight.
Speaker 2 (01:42:34):
Yeah, Miami, they're just brutal.
Speaker 3 (01:42:40):
Well, what Atlanta is? I hate that team.
Speaker 5 (01:42:43):
Atlanta has pretty high odds to win the champions higher
than I don't like that team.
Speaker 2 (01:42:49):
Either, all right, but I don't like that. I'm gonna say, no, Wow,
I hope that I'm wrong.
Speaker 3 (01:42:54):
So Basically, you're saying somebody gonna get hurt. Yeah, I
don't like. I don't like all of it. No, I
know something wrong. Well, the Sixers have a pretty good
injury history. Just remember this.
Speaker 2 (01:43:04):
When Joe plays, they win sixty six percent of games. Yeah,
when he doesn't play, they win thirty three percent of games.
Speaker 3 (01:43:11):
So it's not real hard to figure out.
Speaker 4 (01:43:13):
If he can play sixty games, that means they should
win about forty those.
Speaker 5 (01:43:17):
So what you mean is another year of Joelle embiid
determining my emotional state of mind.
Speaker 3 (01:43:24):
Yes, we gotta get out of here and orient Kirkery. Yes, yeah,
still too soon. Thank you for listening.
Speaker 2 (01:43:31):
