I mean, drinking's at an all-time low.
Um and you can see the guestalready chiming in.
You get an exemption.

I think it's because people realize that yes, it
helps you fall asleep, but yoursleep is super lousy.
It messes up your gutmicrobiome.
So he's not backing down.
I'm not a teetotaler.
I really think that peopleshould do as they wish, but know
what they're doing.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_00 (02:24):
Yeah.
So notice how he said it.
He said, I think people shoulddo what they wish, but they
should know what they're doing.
And the problem is, is that thegovernment guidelines don't talk
about the dangers of drinking.
We get a recommended dailyallowance.
We get told to drinkresponsibly, but we never get
told by the alcohol companies orby the government that it's a
group one carcinogen.
We don't get told the real data.
He knows this because he's ascientist.

But I almost feel like thiswhole setup was we've got, you
know, the good guys that are onyour side who are the hosts and
the guests and the audience, andthen we've got this evil
scientist that's trying to takeaway our fun.
It's almost like a a bit of ashow, but he still delivers the
message.
He doesn't back down.
He could have easily just said,let's just move on to the next
topic.
But he doesn't.
I got a lot of respect forAndrew Huberman after watching
this.

In terms of increasing your risk of cancer,
especially for women and breastcancer, right?
It's it's unequivocal.
And there's yet another studythis week that shows that even
moderate drinking is is bad.

SPEAKER_00 (03:15):
Yep, absolutely.
Which is why it's a little bitsad that he says that he's not a
teetotaler.
With all the scientific evidencethat's mounted in front of him,
he still chooses to drink.
But it's his decision.
I just think that the risk ofeven drinking a few drinks per
week increases the risk ofaddiction that absolutely
cancels out anything.
There are people out there thatmight smoke one or two crack

We don't hold those people inhigh regard.

If you enjoy drinking, just limit it and do a
bunch of other things like getyour morning sunlight, get your
exercise, eat well to offset tooffset the damage you're doing.

And just look at everybody sniggering and
laughing and the guest, like, Ihonestly, I wonder if these
laughs are fake.
I don't know if there's anaudience here, but whatever.
Apparently, way too many.
Another joke.
It's just not that funny.
I love you for the information,but you're depressing the hell
out of me.
So look, it's like we're on yourside if you drink, and here's

And what about uh hypotheticallyasking for a friend?
Um what about someone who likeuh like I don't I'm uh drink a
lot now, but like in the past.

Everybody always says they don't drink a lot now.
I've heard that so many times.

SPEAKER_01 (04:31):
Like uh the uh because I feel like the human
body really is amazinglyresilient, the way you you can,
you know, do things in yourpast, and then it it you know,
once you stop doing them, you'reyou're pretty good, no?
Yeah, oh good.

SPEAKER_00 (04:44):
You know, I almost feel like the jokes are made to
soften the blow.
I feel like it's actuallyscripted, to be honest.
And they've practiced itbeforehand before going live on
air.
I think this is live, I'm notsure.
I've never watched this show inmy life, and I never would.
I'll just like Andrew Huberman.
And when someone sent me thisclip, I knew I had to share it
with you guys because he handlesit so well.
But you can see how everybody'slaughing and agreeing with the

host or agreeing with theselittle jokes, but Huberman just
doesn't back down.

Every um singer have a have a future, every saint has
a past.
Yeah, but I mean if if that'strue, then why not?
I feel like I always like, youknow.

Oh, hang on.
Now he's going, well, if that'strue, then why not?
What he's basically saying is,why not keep drinking?
You see the way that hemeandered around that point that
he wanted to make of why notjust keep drinking?
He was very careful with how hedelivered that.
It's sad.

Did as much as my body would allow me to.
When my body let me have 25drinks a week, I did.

SPEAKER_00 (05:35):
Listen, I'm I'm just when my body allowed me to have
25 drinks a week.
Your body was never designed tohave 25 drinks a week.
You're just a bit younger andresilient.
But I just think he's trying tonot piss off his audience and
get them to turn off the TV.
You gotta think about theincentives here.
So Huberman's got the incentiveof promoting scientific factual
information, and the host, allhe really cares about is people

not turning off his show.
So it's kind of sad, but atleast Huberman just didn't back
down.

Much different impact in your 20s and 30s.
Right.
Um, in part because of the waythat sleep becomes more and more
important for maintaining brainfunction and bodily function.

And Huberman's last point was only related to sleep,
and it's way deeper than that.
It's not just that it affectsyour sleep later on in life, of
course that's a factor.
But also he didn't say thatpeople tend to drink more over
time.
But anyway, I think Hubermanabsolutely nailed it.
