head over to wwwsoberclearcom.

(00:21):
After not drinking myself forseven years, but struggling with
alcohol for close to a decade, there is something that I've
discovered that you must not doif you want to stop drinking

(00:43):
alcohol.
I have helped hundreds ofpeople stop drinking alcohol in
a coaching program, and not onlythat, but I've helped tens of
thousands of people, if nothundreds of thousands of people,
stop drinking with this YouTubechannel alone.
And today I'm going to show youthe biggest mistake that you
can make.
I don't want to sound negative,but I'm almost 100% sure that
it can derail you.
Listen.
This video will beuncomfortable to watch.

(01:04):
In essence, I'm going to callyou out, but I promise you, if
you can make it through to theend of this video, you are going
to be in such a strongerposition to actually tackle this
problem and fix it for good.
I've made this mistake in myown life Pretty much every
single person I've spoken toover the past six years who's
been struggling with alcohol, because I've spoken with
literally thousands uponthousands of people on actual

(01:26):
phone calls.
I've seen this mistake come uptime and time again and, believe
me, a lot of people aren'tgoing to like this.
People from AA won't like this.
Anybody that's reallystruggling they might not like
this, but it's time somebodytold you the truth.
When you stop drinking alcohol, what you must not do is just
stop drinking.
I'm not going to say that youneed to go to meetings for the
rest of your life.

(01:46):
No, I'm not going to say youneed to call yourself an
alcoholic.
And I'm not going to say thatyou need to just fight the urge
with willpower.
What I'm trying to say here iswhen you stop drinking alcohol,
what you don't want to do ismake this your big life
achievement.
And that's Rich.
Coming from somebody whoteaches people how to stop
drinking.
This channel's name is SoberLeon, but I teaches people how
to stop drinking.
The channel's name is SoberLeon, but I don't see stopping
drinking as an achievement atall.

(02:06):
I don't even know when Istopped drinking.
It was about seven years ago tothis day.
I can't even remember because Idon't care, and that's not from
a place of arrogance.
Let me explain the thoughtprocess so you don't go and make
this mistake.
If you make stopping drinkingthe big focus of your life, the
big achievement of your life, what you're essentially saying
to yourself is that you've donesomething hard.

(02:27):
Now, during the 10 years that Idid struggle with alcohol for
is, I felt this way Every time Istopped drinking alcohol.
It's like a badge of honor.
I didn't drink.
Hooray good for me.
And on the surface it doesn'tseem like there's anything wrong
with this.
But if we can unpack it and goa little bit deeper, you'll
start to see where this ideabreaks down.
And again, this video might bea little bit harsh, but trust me

(02:48):
, if you make it through to theend, there is another way for
you to do things.
But if stopping drinkingalcohol feels like an
achievement, then you must feelin some way like you've overcome
a struggle, a fight, a battle, and the thing is as well is
society actually loves thesekinds of stories.
When I started SoberClear, whenI started helping people stop

(03:09):
drinking alcohol, all I did wasshare my story on the internet.
I shared my journey of notdrinking alcohol for one year,
and here I am six years later.
Now seven years without a drinkand me sharing my story.
I got a lot of validation fromit.
I got a lot of views, a lot oftraffic, a lot of positive
comments.
But let me be clear aboutsomething when I shared that
video, when I made the videoabout not drinking alcohol for
one year, I did somethingcompletely different to most

(03:30):
people.
That first year that I didn'tdrink for I didn't really tell
anybody.
I had one close friend that Itold I might have told my family
, but I even had a friend.
I told him, dude, I've notdrank for a year.
I've just posted this video onYouTube and he looked at me and
he's like I didn't even know youhad a problem.
See, I was very good at hidingthings and keeping it secret,
but what happened seven yearsago is there was such a shift in

(03:50):
my thinking where the illusionof alcohol adding value to my
life it just evaporated.
And for the first time in mylife, I saw alcohol with 100%
clarity.
I saw it without anyconditioning, any idea of it
being a good thing, and I saw itfor what it actually is,
because just think about it Atits core, what is alcohol?
It's poison, it's a drug, it'ssomething that does absolutely

(04:13):
nothing for anybody.
The problem is that as asociety is we don't see it that
way.
We don't see it the same waythat we see marijuana, lsd,
crack, cocaine.
We don't see it that way.
Society gives it a pass.
But once I saw alcohol for whatit is, it became the most
logical choice that I'd evermade to stop drinking it.
But the difference this time isthat, because I'd felt like

(04:33):
this switch got flicked in mymind, I felt no desire to go and
proclaim that I've stoppeddrinking alcohol.
And look at me and, hey, go,leon.
No, because actually what endedup happening is the first
person that I told looked medead in the eyes and he went
here we go again.
And I thought do you know what?
I don't need your validation, Idon't need to tell anybody what
I'm doing here.
All I'm going to do is stopdrinking alcohol and get busy
with my life.

(04:54):
See, during the 10 years that Idrank for I always had goals.
I had goals for business, forhealth and fitness, for
relationships, but I would nevermake progress on those goals.
But this time, because I knew Iwasn't going to drink again,
the self-confidence came back, the energy came back, the
clarity came back and I juststarted taking so much action.
So after one year, I'd learnedabout YouTube, I'd started

(05:14):
another business, I wasfreelancing, I was building all
of these skills and not once didI think about drinking.
In fact, my soon-to-be wife, who I'm about to marry the first
thing I did when I met her wasbuy her a beer.
I didn't drink, I didn't care.
She wanted a beer, so what?
I went to Thailand.
I'd go out in Bangkok.
I'd have a friend from Londoncoming to visit Bangkok.
They're going out for beers.
I'm still hanging out with them.

(05:35):
I didn't care.
Something had changed in myworldview.
See, when I failed to stopdrinking alcohol, I made
stopping drinking the focus ofmy life.
Now, this might sound a bitlike a contradiction, given my
career, given my work, given mycoaching company, but when I
meet people in person, I neverbring up conversations about
struggles of not drinkingbecause I don't have any.

(05:56):
But the two things that youneed to do, instead of just
making stopping drinking thefocus of your life, is number
one is actually reframe the waythat you view alcohol.
That is the foundation of allof this.
It's actually changing yourparadigm.
But the second thing you do is,rather than make stopping
drinking alcohol this big, grandachievement is, define what it
is that you want in your life.

(06:16):
Maybe for you it's better health, more money, better
relationships, I don't know.
So, instead of making stoppingdrinking the focus of your life,
make this stuff the focus ofyour life.
So, instead of looking back atyour life in six months and
feeling stagnant yeah sure, youmight not have drank for six
months, but nothing's changedwhat you want to do is be able
to look back at your life andthen go whoa, the version of me
six months ago, compared to whoI am now, is totally different.

(06:38):
I'm fitter, I'm healthier, myenergy is better.
I've got more money than I'veever had in my life.
My wife, my husband they'refalling back in love with me.
My children they're all lookingup to me again.
But you don't get there bystopping drinking.
You get there by making thefuture the focus.

Stuff You Should Know
Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
