(00:22):
So I've just read some prettyunsettling news.
The United States governmentcommissioned a study to be done
on alcohol and your health.
This study was paid for with UStax dollars, and the findings
have been buried.
The report that was done bymultiple scientists was
finished, submitted, and thefindings were confirmed.

(00:42):
But the Donald Trump and RobertF.
Kennedy Jr.'s administrationhave buried the findings.
They literally just shelved itaway.
And we only know this thanks toone journalist, Dylan Scott from
Vox.
Scott tracked down the draft andconfirmed its authenticity with
multiple experts.
But do you wanna know what itreally revealed?
It revealed that even just onedrink a day can increase your

(01:06):
risk of cancer and it can evenlead to a premature death.
This is the story that theydidn't want you to hear until
now.
I'm gonna share the findings ofthis report, and I'm also going
to share why they buried it.
A very quick introduction.
My name is Leon Sylvester, I'mthe founder of soberclear.com.
I struggled with alcohol forabout 10 years.
I haven't drank now for sevenyears.
I've helped tens of thousands ofpeople to stop drinking alcohol,

(01:28):
and I make videos to inform thepublic on the dangers of
drinking alcohol to help themreframe the way that they view
it, to stop seeing it assomething that enhances their
life and see it for theinsidious, poisonous drug that
it is.
So, what exactly happened?
So in 2022, the Department ofHealth and Human Services
commissioned the study.
It was called the Alcohol Intakeand Health Study.

(01:49):
Listen to the word there,commissioned.
In other words, it was paid forby US tax dollars.
Now, this wasn't just anacademic curiosity.
It was actually designed toinform the American dietary
guidelines.
These guidelines shapeeverything from what children
eat in school to what hospitalsrecommend their patients.
This was deep.
So a team of scientists spentmultiple years reviewing the

(02:12):
evidence.
By 2024, they finally submittedtheir draft, and this is where
things got strange.
The final report, it was neverpublished.
It was never released, and itwasn't added to the guidelines.
And it wasn't even released byCongress where it's supposed to
go by law.
And if Dylan Scott hadn't duginto it, speaking to sources,
confirming the findings withscientists, we would never have

(02:34):
known it even existed.
So what did the scientistsactually find?
Well, according to the draft, there is no safe level of
alcohol.
Risks begin at just one drink aday.
And as we already know from thisYouTube channel and the findings
that I've been sharing, itraises the risk of seven
cancers, including breast, bowel, liver, and various

(02:55):
cancers of the mouth, throat, and voice box.
And the numbers were crystalclear.
At one drink a day, your chanceof dying from an alcohol-related
death is one in one thousand.
Two drinks a day, it triples toone in three hundred.
And at just three drinks a day,it's nearly one in one hundred.
Just think about that for asecond.
The same glass of wine that wasmarketed as healthy for your

(03:17):
heart would be raising yourrisks of a cancer death.
This wasn't some fringe science.
It was a government-commissionedexpert-written review.
The kind of report that shapesUS health policy.
And it never saw daylight.
So the big question is why?
Why was it buried?
Well, we'll never know the realreason, but we can speculate.
And to me, there are three clearthings that are coming into play

(03:40):
here.
The first thing is the alcohollobby, especially in the USA.
See, alcohol is a$250 billion ayear industry.
And alcohol companies are knownto spend millions doing all
sorts of marketing, from fundingcharities to sponsoring sports
to lobbying the US government.
They spend hundreds of millionsof dollars doing this.

(04:00):
And the truth is, a governmentguideline saying there is no
safe amount of alcohol to drinkwould devastate the alcohol
industry.
So that's the first factor.
The second factor is thepolitics.
See, most of the adultpopulation drink alcohol.
So no politician wants to standup there on a platform and say,
guys, there is no safe amount ofalcohol to drink.
It's a carcinogen.

(04:21):
It's a political nightmare.
It's the last thing that theywant to do.
They're gonna alienate theirvoters.
And it's so much easier just tobury a report like this than
face the potential backlash.
And the third and final thingthat we could argue are the
leadership choices in America.
When the report landed in 2024,the Trump administration was in
charge.
Robert F.
Kennedy Jr.
was health secretary.

(04:42):
And under their leadership, thereport was shelved.
The official line was that moreevidence was needed, because
otherwise it might confuse thepublic.
But here's the thing scientistssay that the evidence is already
overwhelming.
But whether you're a Republicanor a Democrat, it makes no
difference.
That administration buried thisreport.
So is all of this familiar?

(05:02):
Is history just repeatingitself?
Well, if you ask me, if we lookback at history, yes, it is.
Let's look at tobacco, sugar, and oil.
Firstly, with tobacco.
By the 1950s, scientists knewfor sure that alcohol caused
cancer.
What happened?
Well, big tobacco spent decadesfunding fake studies and even
pressuring politicians.

(05:24):
Number two, when it comes tosugar, in the 1960s, the sugar
industry literally paid Harvardresearchers to blame fat instead
of sugar for heart disease andfinally oil.
In the 1970s, oil companies' ownscientists warn them of climate
change.
And instead of acting on thisadvice, they just launched
denial campaigns.

(05:44):
Now, alcohol is following theexact same script.
The evidence is clear.
The science is clear and therisks are documented.
And once again, the sad thingis, is industry profits come
before public health.
So let's just strip this alldown for a second.
What is alcohol?
What did the study find?
And what can you take away fromall of this nonsense?
Well, according to the WorldHealth Organization, alcohol is

(06:08):
a group one carcinogen.
Just so you know, a group onecarcinogen is the same as
tobacco and even asbestos.
Number two is the so-calledhealth benefits of moderate
drinking are mostly debunked.
These studies are riddled withbias.
For example, healthier andwealthier people are more likely
to drink wine.
And this just completely skewsthe data.

(06:29):
And the ultimate truth is anyamount of alcohol increases the
risk of death.
Less is obviously safer, butzero is safest.
This is the reality that thealcohol industry doesn't want to
talk about.
Really, on a bottle of alcohol, what it should slap on the label
is group one, carcinogen, knownto cause death.
And if you drink this much, here's the reality.

(06:50):
Are we gonna see that in thenext 10 years?
I doubt it.
Maybe in 15 years, maybe in 20years, the quicker the better,
if you ask me.
Because people need to beinformed.
We know the dangers of fentanyl,we know the dangers of all of
these other drugs, but alcohol,we just brush it under the rug.
Let's not upset our voters.
And here's the harsh truth.
Once people start to wake up andsee alcohol for what it is, the

(07:10):
same way that we see cigarettesand that's bestos, it's game
over.
The industry will dry up.
And you want to know one of thecraziest statistics ever.
Most Americans don't know thatalcohol even causes cancer.
Surveys show that fewer than 50%of people are aware of this.
Just compare that to tobacco.
Almost everybody knows thattobacco kills you.
This ignorance, the public beingso misinformed, is not an

(07:34):
accident.
It is literally the result ofdecades of careful branding.
Drink responsibly, drink therecommended daily allowance.
We've heard it all before.
We've seen the ads, thesophistication, the success, the
glamour, the camaraderie.
We've seen all of that crap amillion times.
See, alcohol companies are notinterested in educating you.
They're interested in marketing.

(07:54):
They're interested inspreadsheets and capturing their
fair share of the market.
That's all they care about.
They care about shareholdervalue, and the last thing they
care about is the consumer.
The more you drink, the betterit is for business.
So let's quickly recap.
A government commission team ofscientists found out in a
scientific report that there isno safe amount of alcohol to
drink.
We found out that the reportlinks alcohol to various cancers

(08:18):
and even just one drink a day.
It was submitted, but then thereport was buried by the current
administration.
And we only know this thanks toDylan Scott from Vox.
But here's the thing, and here'sthe bottom line of all of this.
We don't need to wait forgovernments to tell us that it's
not good to drink alcohol.
Sat there waiting for thisgovernment report.
I mean, it's gonna influence alot of people, but we don't need

(08:40):
that.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
