Unknown (00:03):
Oh, I'm sorry, did I break your concentration?
Somewhere betweenscience and superstition? To
show youStrange Aeons. Welcome Strange

(00:28):
Aeons radio. That's Eric overthere. Hey, Lou. That's Vanessa
over there. Hey, everybody. I'mKelly. Normally, this is the
time where I vamp a little bittell you all about my week or
something. But, Vanessa, I heardsomething strange happened to
you.
You know how you had that likecrazy story, like walking down

(00:48):
the street at night? And therewas a mystery person? Yeah.
Imagine it's like that. Butinstead of a mystery person,
it's a bat.
Tell me more. Tell us all more.
So um, yeah. So I mean, I edit alot. I work really hard. And I
don't take a lot of vacationsand I decided you know what? got

(01:09):
invited to go out to WhidbeyIsland stay in a little cabin
this weekend. I was like, yeah,I'm gonna do that. That sounds
amazing. I'm not gonna worryabout working. Get there settle
in. I start fired. Super nice, super calm, hang out, go to bed.
Wake up at like 5am maybe justabout 5am. And there's like

(01:34):
something there. And I don'tknow. I I've woken up before and
like had kind of mini nightmareswhere I think I'm awake. But I'm
not in last time. There was likea bunch of spiders like across
the room. And so yeah, I know.
So. And I had like, stood up andstarted like yelling for that
one. So I was like, No, no, it'sa dream. I'm just gonna lay
here, and it'll go away. And II'm just staring at this cabin

(01:59):
ceiling watching this thing thatlooks like an oversized moth,
just swing left and right. Andthen it starts like dive bombing
the bed. And I was like, What?
And I just like, I'm like, no,it's real. It's real. Jump up.

(02:20):
And I'm like, oh my god. It's afucking bat. There's a bag here.
And like, the bat is not it didnot get in here. The Bat has
been in here for the last threehours. I've been sleeping.
Yeah, watching you.
I know. And it's quiet. It'sdead. Quiet, right. So it's just
going back and forth. So turn onthe lights I put on like this

(02:42):
giant oversized sweater thing.
And I get a broom and I'm tryingto like, find it to get it out.
Because you know, that's whatyou're taught. Right? Find
broom, get back out SWAT at it.
And there are so many littleholes and nooks and crannies.
This is like a rustic cabin.
There's like just not the grainsand wood is not like quite lined

(03:02):
up, right you have there'simpossible is impossible to find
the stamping. And so like onepoint I laid back down on the
bed and I was just really, really still and I was like
maybe I imagined it all. I'mjust gonna lay here
with my, with my room.
just staring at the ceilingbecause I'm extremely tired. I
went to bed at like two. Justextremely tired. staring at the

(03:25):
ceiling. And then I hear fromthe corner just
so tiny, and I think it's behindthe blinds are over by the
blinds. Which is weird because Ijust had that door open and I
was like you and then it gets upand it starts flying crazily
again. And I was like, Ah, so Itried a second time to do

(03:48):
something with this thing couldnot could not handle it. So I
mean the pillows there with likecall the vacation rental people
is like an Airbnb situation. Andthey like are like, okay, we're
gonna send out a bad person toWhidbey Island at five in the
morning. And we're like, sureyou are at 6am callback is the

(04:11):
bad people coming? No, no, thatpeople are not coming. We're
gonna find you a new place, getyour stuff in your car and leave
while we call like theexterminator slash health
department slash whatever. So,okay, pack up, get a free
breakfast from them, which wasvery nice. start heading to the
new accommodation get settledin. And I take a shower. I just

(04:35):
I have not slept. I'm feelingdisgusting and horrible. And I
look at my shoulder when I getout. And it just looks kind of
like there's a bruise there. AndI think, okay, I don't know if
this is a bruise or if it's justthe lighting. But what happens
if a bat bites you just out ofcuriosity. I mean, just out of

(04:56):
curiosity, what what occurs butwhat what According to every
movie I've seen you suddenlygain bad powers.
I that's what I was hoping for,you know? And I thought like,
maybe I'd have to i'd need tolike wash a wound or something.
And like, I did kind of think, you know, I've heard of this
like rabies thing, but, I mean, probably something else that
might happen, right? There'sprobably like some animal bite

(05:18):
thing that just infection youshould be aware of. And I
started to go down that rabbithole and let me tell you, the
CDC is very good at terrifyingthe pants off you. Yeah. Um, so
the CDC basically says, If youwake up and there is a bat in
your room, you do not know if ithit you or not. It is impossible
to know. The bite is so small, you will not be able to find it.

(05:41):
Even if you see that it bitesyou. You won't not you might not
know and you might not feel ittoo and I thought I woke up at
five in the morning to a silentthing in the middle of the
night. Why did I wake up? Whatwas it so called the nurse line
nurse said Get the hell in yourcar right now. Cuz the emergency

(06:03):
room? I said, Okay, where's theemergency room? I'm on Whidbey
Island. There's one in PortTownsend. I was like that's a
ferry try again. Go to theemergency room. Walk in. chick
is like, Hey, COVID test time.
Where are you headed? I waslike, I might have rabies just
said go over there and did nottest me. did not check my

(06:26):
dumpster. I was like, I thinkyou're still supposed to do that
lady, but Oh, right. Um, walkover, be like, sit me in a
chair. And you're, they give youa spiel. And they're like, Look,
the chances that you have rabiesare pretty slim. But the CDC
says it's better that you justgo ahead and get this treatment.

(06:48):
However, if you do not haveinsurance, this treatment is
expensive. How expensive $20,000Whoa, whoa. Yeah. Yeah. And I
said, Well, I have x healthcare. And they said, well,
you're fine. Yes, that's great.
I was like, waiting for a littleshot. They freaked out a needle.

(07:12):
They put in my arm. It don'teven feel it. Beautiful. Great.
They disappear. And they said,we'll be back. Cool. lady comes
back handful of needles, handful. So depending on your
weight, depends on how much thisadditional treatment you get.
You have to have four of theserabies shots across a period of

(07:33):
time. So I got that one. Andthen you have this additional
medication they pump into youdepending on your weight. So I
had three in one leg and two inthe other cheese. Let me tell
you this vacation has beengreat. My friend who also had to
go through all this had 11 Oh,wow. 11 shots, they had to wake

(07:56):
up a pharmacist and call them into get additional medication to
stick it in them. So needless tosay, I'm a little bit tired.
Yeah, I just got back to Seattleabout two hours ago. Joe up
here. Very excited about therest of the kitchen was very
nice. Today was okay. Yesterdaywas good. deception passes. Very

(08:20):
pretty. And that's about it.
Wow. Yeah. Geez. In with the newlike needles these days. It's
really almost painless.
Yeah, but still.
I don't even want. Let's justsay one of them didn't go Good.

(08:40):
Very tender, big bruise.
Ouch. Do you have any more? Togo anymore? I
have three more tomorrow. I haveto do one and not the big ones
are not the massive quantities, just the arm one. So I have
three more tomorrow and thenFriday and then the Friday after
Chase, but that's only if I canfind them. Because apparently,
most hospitals and pharmaciesdon't carry it. Wow. So you have

(09:02):
to call until you find that.
That's kind of crazy. What wouldbe the harm and carrying?
Shouldn't we just have emergencystuff like that?
Especially like in Seattle? It'sa big enough place that there's
you know, there's like rats anddogs. What if a dog bites you
like it's not like completely?
Like devoid of rabies, right?

(09:24):
Oh, yeah. Plus we're heavilywooded area we have a lot of not
like Texas level but we have alot of bats. Bats,
ya know, it's it's crazy to me,so I'm just frustrated. The
healthcare system is both goodand really, really bad
sometimes. So. Yeah, but hey,the good news is as my nurse

(09:44):
told me while she was stickingneedles in my leg, if I want to
like go into like the Peruvianback caves next summer, hey, I
can just go wild. I have noworries. I can go and do any
kind of cave spelunking. I wantto go down to Texas, I think
Yeah. Bridges. Yeah.
Are they? Oh,well, the bats come out. Yeah, I
could just hang out right there.

(10:06):
Hi, Sally bats.
Your bat man upon my finger.
How long does this last? Howlong does your immunity to bats
last?
I think it's a while However, they said if you do get another
bite that usually you want toget to, like, follow up rabies
shots, but I don't I thinkwithin a certain amount of time,
so I'm probably good for a fewyears, at least. Yeah.

(10:27):
Yeah. Nice.
I am. I am the bat. It's justgreat. Because I feel like if
anything, this kind of stuff isgonna happen to somebody. It's
gonna happen to me. Like, I gotone of the few tick bites in
Washington state with Lymedisease a few years ago while I
was wearing skinny jeans, so I'mjust like, Whatever happens.

(10:48):
Yeah.
Yeah, well, I watched a movie.
Dude happy to have a bat.
had everything in it. I thoughtit was really quite good. It was
called the MT man. And it wasdirected by now his name is
right out of my head. DavidPryor. Remember David Pryor. I

(11:10):
recognize the name but I don'tknow why he wrote and directed a
little short film called am1200. Oh, okay. Hell, that's
awesome. Which is one of ourvery favorite lovecraftian short
fairs. Really quite good. Andthen this film is based on a
comic book that I believe ImageComics put out by Colin Bunn.

(11:31):
You guys familiar with thatwriter? No, I can't remember.
He's local or not. But he was atcryptic con once. I liked the
movie so much that I grabbed thecomic book, and quite honestly
hated the comic book. I thoughtI thought the movie was so much
better that I was like, wow. Andit's really nothing like the

(11:53):
comic book, very little of thecomic is in the movie, the comic
book writer have anything to dowith a film? Or is it just No,
no, Dan Pryor was the guy whoadapted it and he clearly saw
something in it that he likedand then kind of told his own
story with it. But it's, it'sreally, really cool. And the
comic is kind of about a form ofinsanity that is starting to

(12:17):
kind of sweep the nation. Andthese people all claimed to be a
claim to see the empty man, which is kind of a slender man
kind of idea, but really, it'snot anything like that. And I
passed on this film a bunch oftimes because the it's got an
awful poster. Yeah. The emptyman and it made me think it was

(12:39):
something like the Slender Manjust like black and white. Yeah.
Yeah, I saw that.
I definitely saw the trailer andthought this is gonna be
terrible.
Well, it's a let's say it's Oh,what's what's the phrase we use?
Oh, tireless. Deliberatelypaced.
It is deliberately paced.

(12:59):
I can to deliberately,I just thought that it had a
really neat payoff. Some really,I mean, some mild lovecraftian
themes, but some other stuff.
That was almost Philip K. Dick,Ian. Oh, wow. And I just I
really, really enjoyed it. It isa rental right now on prime.

(13:21):
Oh, wow. That sounds reallyreally neat. Well, um, I mean, I
had a bat, so I feel like I'mgood. Yeah.
What about yours?
Well, I saw this little filmthat I almost hesitate to bring
up, but I will anyways.
subchronicI don't know if we can do our I

(13:42):
don't know. I don't think I cantake this.
I happen to finish it also. AndI can disk. I mean, we know from
last week's episode that was mylast did not let's just
favorite.
I don't I don't. I don't want toI don't know I can look at you
guys. All right, Eric. Tommy, why don't you love this phone?

(14:07):
I really liked it. I don't thinkit's I think spring. And Atlas
were I think those are still alittle stronger. Just because I
like they're when they're alittle more esoteric. And
they're really out there withthose by so that was pretty
good. And I know we talked alittle bit about it in texting
and stuff. And you mentioned acouple things. And one of the

(14:29):
things that bugged me, I'm like,I don't even remember that
scene. It took me like a fewminutes to sit and thinking. It
left no impression on me. Mymain impression of what I
enjoyed the film was once hefigured out what the pills do.
And from that point on, I reallyliked it. Up to that was fine.
That was good. But that's thepart that really stuck with me.
I really, really enjoyed that.

(14:51):
Yeah, Kelly. I liked it a lot.
And I actually disagree withyou, Eric, and that I thought it
was by far their mostaccomplished though. Cool, story
wise, I thought that thisactually followed a structure
that was more cinematic thanspring or endless. And I really
enjoyed the camera work.

(15:15):
Oh my god. Oh my god. I like allI'm gonna say is I can't
possibly disagree with you morethan I am feeling right now. But
I'm so happy you enjoyed it andyou got something out of it. I
really liked the opening scene alot. I thought that was
extremely powerful. Oh, yeah.
Yeah, right. So cool. sobeautiful and so weird. And it

(15:37):
pulled you right in. And thereare ideas and themes behind it
that are really spectacular andsuper unique. I hated the
camerawork. I hit it a shotsizes, I hated the dialogue. I
hated the setup of every singlecharacter. I was like, whose
birthday Am I at? God, whoknows? Oh, it's the second main

(15:58):
guy's best friend. And that thatI guess that's his wife. Oh, and
he has an older daughter.
Is that the daughter? Or she'sokay, go at
this Eric. Were you confusedwith any of those though? No,
neither was I I'm so weird. Icaught all of that. Now, as a
writer, I was thinking tomyself, I would have I would

(16:20):
have jettison those charactersyet at a much tighter story by
making it perhaps an exgirlfriend of his his daughter,
his own daughter or somethinglike something like that would
have made a little more sense tome because this was just extra
baggage on a trip that didn'tneed right
Yeah, definitely. I think Ithink that it could have been I

(16:41):
like where your head's I thinkit could have been tighter if
they'd gone a couple differentdirections. And maybe instead of
spending so much time workingthrough story beats that were
kind of over there. And overhere, if they focus a lot more,
I mean, I'd love the main guysincentive for having you know,
some kind of problem in physicphysically that makes it so he

(17:01):
doesn't mind jumping through andtrying to go on this adventure
and trying to be redeemedredeeming of his own character,
but like his actual character Ididn't have too much problem
with it was just more of thesetup and the explanation I just
felt very lost story wise.
So I don't have a problem with Idon't I like watching movies, or
sometimes I feel lost for awhile. I think that's kind of
cool. But yeah, you'd mentionedthat in the last episode where

(17:24):
the shot things and all that I'mwatching is gone. Sure you watch
the same movie because it it waswide. Yeah, to start and then it
got tight when the traumahappened. And it finally it
started with a tight shot. Butthen as soon as that tight shot
ended, it popped back out to awide to establish the scene.

(17:45):
It's so weird.
mishmash collage like I wasseriously watching it going what
why are you making thesedecisions? Because usually, I'm
happy to forgive a lot of stuffand just like felt maybe it was
the editing. Maybe that's whatwas really bugging me. And maybe
that was the I that I was reallylooking through it through
because like I mean, I reallyrespect both of your opinions a

(18:06):
lot. So that's why I'm sosurprised we had such different
reactions. ButI like an agree with what Kelly
said last week about. I think itwas the last episode. I don't
remember his last one, the onebefore.
Probably the episode I saidsomething that's really
insightful.
I know that's not true. But theway you mentioned that divisive

(18:29):
opinions like that, especiallywith people that like we are
that have studied and worked infilm, I think is really cool.
It's that art idea. It's thatidea that we could all sit and
enjoy the rock or not the actor, the movie rock for thriller,
because it just hits all theright beats. And it's a lot of

(18:50):
fun and all the characters andthey're going to people that
hate that movie just because ofwhat it is not because it's an
artistic difference. And I thinkthat's kind of cool, but yeah,
I'm looking forward to moonnight still.
I'm gonna watch him tonight.
Don't Don't think I want I'msuper stoked. And if nothing
Oscar Isaac is gonna be fuckinfabulous. But yeah, we'll see.

(19:10):
I'm gonna be open to it. And I'mgonna be extremely excited to
check it out. I just I'm notgonna have my hopes super, super
high.
Well, speaking of MarvelStudios, last couple episodes of
monovision have been prettystellar.
So good. So good. I'm so gladyou guys kind of warmed up to it

(19:34):
a little bit.
I feel like Eric liked it rightoff the bat.
I kind of did it had except forI because I don't mind sitcoms.
I know you hate them and you'resomewhat neutral on them. I
don't know you like some don'tlike
Moses radio or so when you sayyou and your you have
to answer. It's not everybody.
But I don't think it I enjoy alot of sitcoms, so I thought it

(19:56):
was kind of fun. Have two does, and it was so obnoxiously well
written, it hit the one sitcomthing that I can't stand, which
is if somebody just explainedsomething to someone else, the
problem solved them going. Wellactually, that's the perfect one
to do for this. Because that isin every damn sitcom from about
1950 to 2010. Maybe, man, theystarted to eliminate laugh

(20:20):
tracks and do a little bit morewith them. But so yeah, I
enjoyed it. And I loved thatbeat right at the end of the
second episode, where she said,Now it's like, oh,
I just, I mean, for me, itreally kicked in with that. The

(20:43):
third episode where we get tosee Monica Rambo and and Jimmy
Choo abou are both from app man.
Really appreciate it. And KatDennings shows up from Thor and
I was like, wait, this isstarting to feel like it belongs
in the Marvel Cinematic.

(21:03):
It really kicked into high gear.
I mean, I was really enjoying Ireally think that Elizabeth
Olsen and I really enjoyedwatching her navigate each era's
version of sitcom because Idon't feel like she's playing
just one character all the waythrough. I feel like she does
update the characters slightlyto match what's going on. And

(21:25):
that was definitely apparent tome when we hit the 80s I was
like, man, she's Yeah, like thisfeels right every single one of
them to me felt very right butyes, as soon as they hit that
third episode, and it's like,we've got this combination of
worlds and you're starting tosee more and more and understand
more of what's going on it'sjust yeah, it felt it felt like
the film's if definitely feltvery good.

(21:48):
Well, one thing I think Marveldoes damn near better than any
other long form film company isset up stuff and not be afraid
to set up shit for things fiveyears down the road. Yeah, and
this is a weird, eclectic, strange show. That is going to
set up so much. Yeah, the futurefor the Marvel Universe. That I

(22:11):
think it's ballsy as hell.
Because it's a multiverse rightlike we're starting to look into
that potential.
Yeah, and I think Feig even saidthis will lead directly into the
Doctor Strange movie that iscoming out next which they have
hinted is going to be a veryhorror adjacent superhero film.
Good choice for that.
Yeah. Which then reading intothat this makes me feel more and

(22:35):
more that this is going to bekind of a House of M situation
going on. And that perhaps herneighbor Agnes is a little more
than she's letting on to beYeah. Because of the house of Am
I know it was Mephisto who whokind of got the ball rolling on
a on a completely differentuniverse for and i think that i

(23:00):
don't know I've heard theoriesthat Agnes is Agatha Harkness,
which is kind of interesting tome. But she keeps talking about
her husband, Ralph, and I'mlike, I have a feeling we're
going to see Ralph and he'sgoing to be somebody though
Yeah, that's what I think isgonna happen but but most
impressive was how they theybackdoor the x men universe into

(23:23):
oh my god yeah, beautiful.
I was just likewhat? Such a good solid movie
cuz I kind of like that versionmore.
I think everybody does. He'sbasically the only good thing of
the last couple ofyears. That was my favorite part
for sure of and the only part Ireally liked when the first film
when he showed up so that'strue. Yeah.

(23:46):
That'd be interesting.
Yeah, absolutely. And it's funnybecause I'm the one film that I
did actually see this week wasAvengers Age of Ultron. Because
I decided to start to deep diveinto wander world so I read the
first house event Yeah, and Igot this Wanda and vision comic
that's a compilation is realbad. is real. That is like 84

(24:09):
issue miniseries that they didthey think maybe like the first
one a little weird, a littlenewer, and then they go into
like the 50s. And like, once sofar, one and vision aren't even
together yet. I'm like, What amI reading right now? This is
really awful writing. But that'sokay. Yeah, and and Age of
Ultron. I was like, man, how didthey set her up? I want to have

(24:29):
like a little bit more of a wraparound now that I know more
about this universe than I didbefore. And it was really useful
now that I know kind of whereeverything goes.
I notice every time you get tothe end of a one division
episode, it pops up. Would youlike to watch Age of Ultron?
Yeah, the answer was yes. Maybe I'll
watch the others but I know thatI you know, they really kind of

(24:50):
minimize her. I felt like theyminimized her character a lot up
until we got to the last two,but
Well, I have a little bit Have adivergent here. Glen from
Lovecraft and the Portlandhorror film festival reached out
to me and wanted me to make amention here on our podcast

(25:11):
about the Portland horror filmfestival. They're launching a
waiver program for women duringthe women in Horror Month. So
female filmmakers are invited tosubmit for no fee to the
Portland horror film festival, which is a top notch horror film
festival. They do. Absolutely, yeah, Brian and Glenn do a hell

(25:33):
of a job. And they show somereal quality stuff. No one was
saying they're only at that lessthan 25% submissions are female
filmmakers. So she'd love to seeit get at least 40%. And she's
working hard to make thathappen. So if you want to do

(25:53):
that, and I fully encourage youto because it's well worth
showing that even if theyhaven't, I haven't seen an
announcement whether they'regoing full, if they've already
decided if they're going to bevirtual, or if they're going to
have a festival this year. Sowho knows you might get a
festival. If not, you're goingto still be in a great festival
that's virtual. So you just wantto go to Portland horror, horror

(26:15):
film festival calm and find thelink to the women in horror
waiver application on there. AndI fully recommend that you do
that if you have made a coolhorror film.
Yeah. That's amazing. And I havea couple of people that I'm
going to ping.
Good, good.
Yeah, that's very cool. They didtheir HP Lovecraft Film Festival

(26:37):
virtually this last year and itwas a smash.
Yeah. Yeah. did really well.
Super cool.
Okay, guys, I'll just mentionone thing. By the time this
airs, there will be the finalepisode of the stand on release
day. It it continues to shipdirectly in the mouth of anyone

(27:01):
who liked the book.
I have not watched an episodesince last we talked about I
think I think I only watched thefirst three and that was like,
there's there's so much and thenHarley Quinn came out. Okay, I
got to watch this. And now I'mlike into the end of season one
or the last episode of seasonone of warrior. I've gone to I
watch them no screw that. I'mwatching. They're so good. Yeah,

(27:23):
no,honestly like listening to you
guys talk about it. I have. I'vestarted from being interested
too heavily uninterrupted. I'mjust doing other things with my
time.
Well, if you reach way back intime, when I got to see that
first episode a little early, Iwas really hopeful. I like the
actors. And I was like, Okay, let's see where this goes. So no
one can say I did not give thisa chance. No kidding.

(27:46):
And you're right, the actress orgood that first episode seemed
like it was gonna be pretty funand interesting. And then it
just wasn't very classy, sir.
Should we take a little break?
Yeah. And then we will come backand we are talking about
romantic gestures.

(28:22):
Are you ready for your mystery?
mysterymystery date, the thrilling new
Milton Bradley game of romanceand mystery that's just for you.
And you and you. And you.

(28:42):
Mystery date. Will you be readyfor swimming?
Or a dance? When you open thedoor with your mystery date, be
a dream.
Fun and surprising. That'smystery. Remember, Milton

(29:02):
Bradley makes the best games inthe world. So girls. Mystery
day. mystery.

(29:22):
But so this was your sub genre?
Yes, absolutely. So I gifts fromthe hearts. I so i i think i
thought that this was gonna beeasy. And I think I thought I
had some really good ideas forwhat I wanted to do for this
because I was like, man, thereare so many horror films were
like, Dude bro shows up. Andhe's like, I did this for you.

(29:45):
And it's some awful stuff andlike, girls like that. And I was
like, man, I gotta figure outwhat that movie is because I'm
sure I've seen like 100 of them.

This is his only film title. AndJerry Brewer, Professor Jim

and Shadow Hunter. So the storyfollows a young mutant boy, we
start off with this kid clearlyin a bad abusive homestead. His
mom is cooking them eggs and hercigarette hash is dumped
lovingly all over them. Shescrambles them up for him. Sure.

(35:42):
Oh, yeah. That's kind of whatthe implication is. She sits him
down and basically says, I knowyou're no good. You're evil. I
found the dead animal at thebottom of the trash. You didn't
think I'd find it? There did?
Yeah.
Is this a Rob Zombie'sHalloween?
Haven't seen Rob Zombie'sHalloween, so maybe there was

(36:02):
some inspiration happening? Youknow? Yeah, so he killed some
kind of turtle. And then she'slike, you're gonna turn out just
like her dad. He did this to me.
And she has a giant scar on herneck. And it's like, Okay, and
then this little neighborhoodgirl comes over. And she's like,
Oh, can go out to play. And themoms like, No, he's a feel good.
And little girls like buddiesright there. So his little girl
takes us guy out. didn't playcheckers and having a good time.

(36:27):
And then some cool kids on bikesshow up. Watch out. They start
making fun of him because he'smute and like basically saying,
Oh, you don't talk. I heard thatyour dad is in prison, bla bla
bla. And they're like, I bet youwon't even do the Well, whatever
that means. So he looks at themfiercely jumps on a bike rides

(36:50):

foot behind foot and not holdingon to anything. He does make it
around the well, just for one ofthe kids to shout at him at the
end and he falls in.

(37:12):
Oh, he's not deaf. Okay.
10 years later, still at thebottom of his goddamn now we're
with Gretchen. So that's likethe sweet little girl right?
Who's playing checkers with thisboy. She is blonde skinny, and I
didn't know that Southern Valleygirls existed. But my God, they

(37:35):
do. And they do in this film.
Her accent is fun. She has a hotblonde boyfriend, a spunky best
friend. And her parents aretaking off for Hawaii for the
week. So of course, she decidesto have a small get together.
Meanwhile, in an insane asylum, new nurse takes over. And Mr.

(37:55):
JOHN Bradley. I think that's hisname must have forgotten
already. Yes, john Riley isinstructed on how to take care
of him. He's in a coma. Kind ofNo, he's worse to dated. It's
not clear what's going on. Thisisn't really even shot in like a
mental Institute is clearly shotin a normal hospital. It's very

(38:18):
weird to wrap your head around.
But the the doctor is extremelyrude. And he's like, you know,
this goes nothing and puts gumon him. He's like, Yes, he's not
gonna react. So he's like, in 15minutes, give him his meds.
Goodbye, takes off. And she'swaiting for something. So 15
minutes goes by and then a fewmore minutes and she starts to

(38:41):
get the stuff ready. And she'slike, All right, I'm gonna go
ahead and reach the date. Thisguy was too late. Waited just a
few minutes too long. And after10 years of being sedated this
man is open and Adam immediatelyjabs her with the needles
straight in the forehead sucksthat her brain juice and is off
off into the wilds. Turns outthat apparently in this time

(39:03):
when he fell down the wellsomething happened. I guess he
got out somehow and murdered hismother. And it was put into an
insane asylum. So police and alocal psychiatrists are on the
case. Hold on. Let'slet's back up a little bit here,
sir. they've kept him sedatedfor 10 years. Yes. Like almost
comatose? Yes. But they'reexercising him regularly.

(39:24):
Somehow through all this, uh, Iwouldn't say this guy's in
shape. But still laying in bedfor 10 years. It's tough to jump
up. Hey, after 10 hours ofsleep. I'm like moving pretty
slow.
I would say just imaginesomebody desperately trying to
make Halloween and thinking ofMike Myers and like, imagine if

(39:46):
it was a Mike Myers but like, you know, the spirits right? So
the students been laying there, but it doesn't matter. He's
almost like pure evil, right?
There is no real soul there. Sothe non soul can just pilot the
body.
I am uncomfortable with howcomfortable you are with calling
Michael Myers. Mike.
I'm so sorry. Thank you forcorrecting me. I don't want the

(40:09):
angry emailshanging out with Fred Jason and
Mike.
It's so hard it's so hard tobecause of this anyway. There's
a lot of good baby driver jokesin there. But anyway, so
Gretchen has a fun party withher friends. She doesn't see

(40:29):
this but a finger shows up onher doorstep. The dog grabs it
and runs off into the yard withedge isn't really noticed that
it's there. In the meantime, oneof the guys who's their friend,
something real rough happens tohim. Let's just say perhaps a

(40:50):
Mr. JOHN finds him in thewoodshed and perhaps he does not
survive the encounter. There'salso implications that John's
now a cannibal I don't anyway,so um, there's a lot of telling
and seeing in this foam you justhave to kind of roll with it.
She and her friends get order apizza and it arrives extremely
late. The pizza guys not thereand it's just laying there on

(41:13):
her porch. And she's like, Oh,well, whatever, brings the food
and brings it into like whoordered sausage? I didn't order
sausage. Oh, well diggin? Sothey're enjoying a nice pizza.
Mr. JOHN Bradley is going aroundcontinuing to kill and get
revenge on the people who pushedhim and made fun of him with

(41:37):
this whole well incident. Thesheriff and the psychiatrists
are trying to hunt him down. apsychiatrist has bad run in with
him perhaps does not make itthrough the encounter. But we do
find out that a bunch of bodiesare being stored in the well.
And at a certain point, thismovie just becomes Halloween.
It's just blonde chick and herbest friend in the house. He

(42:01):
enters he is following themaround seems to be almost
invincible. Breaking throughthings to get at them kills the
friend. It's just the blondechick running around Gretchen's
just finds a gun pointed at himshoots him like eight times
right in the square chest. He'sfine. continues after her she

(42:26):
runs out finds the sheriffsheriff's like all right, I got
it and she goes just shoot himshoots him like 12 times kind of
falls over so in his deaththroes and his final words we
get his motivation for all ofthis as he whispers love first

(42:51):
of all it's not for you to thinkthat you know the implicate Of
course this he was chopping upthese people and given little
parts here and there to thisgirl
this vile joke potential there.

(43:13):
I know he Yeah, he could havegone for anyone. I think that I
wrote down my first impressionswere it's like Invisalign meets
carpenter. It's just beautifulwhite sparkling teeth on a chick
in a film that's trying to be ahorror film. It's also the

(43:33):
ultimate I'm just a nice guymovie. I think he's really just
a nice guy. Why won't she likehim? Why is she with the loser
blonde guy in Shellthing going on?
It feels very install. Um, thegood things about this, it
actually has a couple of reallyfunny moments. His first kill,

(43:54):
for example, when he's in thewoodshed with a guy, he puts the
guy's head in a vise and you'relike, oh, man, this is gonna go
bad. But he goes and tries toget a chainsaw and he's like,
blah, blah, blah. And then hegoes to put it down on the guy's
neck and it just won't go. Andhe's like, oh, puts it down,
goes over and gets a drill. It'slike break puts down over his

(44:15):
forehead starts to push downunplugs itself does not reach
and you're like Alright, this ispretty good. And then he you
know finds the knee just spicesit watermelon he got it do that.
Yeah, they're the sheriff inthis movie is an extremely he's
by far the best actor like he'sbeen in nothing else. But he was

(44:37):
fun. Like he was sarcastic. Hehad a really interesting
character. He was like, givensome kid harassment over like
having a bunch of porn and thenhe was like, yeah, kid, I'm not
gonna let you get in trouble.
Just put it in my trunkcode even
like some really nice Bag ofWeed to
whatever else you got. You gotsome Oreos in there. I'll take
them. Um, it was unfortunatethough, because this guy's While

(45:01):
he's a good actor, his body typewhich is extremely unfortunate,
he was a heavier guy. And theway he moved was extremely
awkward. It just there was noconfidence in it. It just looked
very weird and bad. It wasn'tlike Jason stalking you where
you're going Oh, crap. This isnot good. No, that yeah, exactly

(45:23):
that as well. It's good when itgoes for Halloween because at
least there is something becausethis film is extremely boring.
But the best thing of all aboutthis film is it fit my
requirements. So that was thegood the bad
sausage. Is that the gift oflove?

(45:43):
I mean that the sausage I don'tthey never say what it is aside
from human. So who knows? Itcould have been the dog though,
too, because the dog does gomissing. There's a lot of bad,
everyone's bad. Everyone'sextraordinarily bad to a point
in which you want to hangyourself so much. Because that's

(46:04):
the sheriff. It's rough.
Everyone looks like they'remiscast. I mean, it's clearly
just some dudes friends. Theyalso try to make her like
psychic for a while.
Yeah.
Big psychic idea where she'slike, You know how sometimes
like, you just get a feelingthat like something's gonna
happen.

(46:25):
You know, Iget that sometimes, but it's,
you know, like, it's like a lot.
And then, of course, right ishe's about to bust in the door.
She's like, I just have like abad feeling. It's like, Oh, my
God, but it's just a really, really go anywhere. Um, it's
special. It lacks a lot of Gore, they kind of show everything off

(46:47):
screen, which is reallyunfortunate, because like that
was maybe one of the things theycould had going for it. And
there's just a lot of stuff thatdoesn't feel like it fits.
There's a super bonkersmortician character who then
shows up later as a policeman.
And he's like cartoonishly overthe top. And like I said, it's
just freakin it's a boring assfilm. It's just frickin dull. So
that's my phone.

(47:12):
Fascinating. I can'tbelieve you wasted this instead
of using it for our pizzadelivery guy pay with glue it
wassure it well Oh, I didn't know
that there was a potential forthat because there's no end of
amazing pizza moment. So I knowthere's a few Nightmare on Elm
Street things we can pull outhere. If need be, sir.

(47:37):
Well, should I go next? BecauseI think you enjoyed yours a lot.
Yeah, sure. Socuz you didn't like yours, and I
liked mine. But it wasn't quiteas cool. So we'll build Yeah.
Okay. So mine was 2017 the badbatch.

(48:16):
chaos in this world is vast andunknowable. like to think we can
understand it. But we can't. Weweren't good enough.

(49:07):
smart enough, young enough.
All the things you've done. Doyou really want this solution?

(49:49):
Here's the thing. Good or bad?
Mostly depends on how you'restanding next.
And this was budgeted at $6million. Oh, I skipped the
rotten tomatoes 47 from thecritics and 30 from the

(50:09):
audience, which I think ispretty harsh. I think it's
better than that.
I think so too. I like thisreally
cool. Very nice. Well, the boxoffice was $201,000. And it was
released with the idea of itbeing a summer film.
Oh, no. Oh, no, nota huge one. You know, it's a $6
million budget, but it was stillsupposed to be the breakout

(50:31):
movie for Anna Lilly. I'm apoor, no drag to the girl walks
home alone at night and episodeof Legion and the upcoming
remake of cliffhanger.
Know what? Yeah, whoa, my brainhad a big leap. I knew this foot

(50:55):
would be seeing the film she'sdone. And I think she's a fairly
good filmmaker. cliffhangerseems like a really strange
stretch. pacing isextraordinarily different. I
mean, I don't know if you canget much different
but so she also wrote it and theabove films as well plus a lot
of shorts and a lot of shortswork. The stars were Suki

(51:18):
Waterhouse who was in Pokemondetective Pikachu. Assassination
nation. Does that.
Oh my god, it's so good. Oh,yeah. So
good. And, Okay, I'm gonna seeanybody else here you are the
very strong possibility to maybehave seen this who may not the
film version.
He's looking at me.

(51:39):
Listeners don't know that me.
It's a mystery. We're gonna findout. The well not the movie
version, but the original TVshow of absolutely fabulous.
Uh, yeah, I do know that.
Yes. Yeah. She was in the movieversion. I'm sure she played.
Okay. Yeah, that was a weird oneI watched because at suncoast
somebody returned to set becauseit was defective. And so while

(52:01):
I'm doing paperwork, I watchedthe whole see. It's pretty good.
It's very slowly but very good.
costar is somebody I'm sureyou've heard of Jason momoa. of
Baywatch. I always forget he wasConan the Barbarian and that
severely underrated Conan film.
Oh my god. Was he? Yeah, Ilike that movie, actually. Yeah.

(52:22):
And he's also Duncan, Idaho, andthe upcoming Dune.
Oh, cool. Yeah, that'll be freaking it. Also as
I Jade a faint Keanu Reeves, JimCarrey. And a whole bunch of
those stars. You have seensomething. So for $6 million
budget. I'm like, boy, a lot ofpeople took the massive cuts, as
well. Wow. The film starts within the middle of a desert and

(52:45):
Suki is being loud out of his itprison is a Texas it's hard to
tell. But then she's walkingaway. It shows a sign of Texas
and you suddenly realize oh,we're in a madmax dystopian
future kind of world here. Andas she is just wandering the
desert alone, she's quicklycaptured by what I would kind of
term Road Warrior rejects.

(53:07):
Because they don't really lookas as wild and interesting. I
mean, it's probably close towhat people would look like. As
opposed to the road wire. Andthey immediately cut off our arm
and leg because they'recannibals.
Yeah, that part's severe. Whoa,Is she alive? Oh, yes. Yeah,
they keep her alive. It's done.
It's done. She'sShe's the protagonist of the

(53:28):
film.
Yeah. Haha.
how she's hopping, Eric.
Well, one thing I did noticethey appear to have steroids
still available in the futurebecause the cannibal group that
capture are beefy as hell. Mamois one of the smaller people.
This group, he's actually kindof for him, like, He's huge, but

(53:51):
he's not cut out very much atall in this film. Not that that
hurts him or anything, bastard.
But she escapes from thecannibals and is rescued by
somebody else. So several yearsnow, we fast forward a little,
several years later, and she hasa prosthetic arm and leg. Okay.
And I gotta say, sound wise. Thesound of that damn squeaking leg

(54:11):
is really annoying. And it'soddly inconsistent to which I'm
happy with because if it was thewhole film through I would not
have watched this. Andapparently, at least in this
film, Momo is a hell of anartist. And he's just doing
these amazing drawings of likehis little girl and stuff like
that. One of the things Iactually really enjoyed this

(54:32):
film I'm curious what youthought about it cuz it's fairly
eclectic. I really thought thesoundtrack was neat.
I think that was probably thething I didn't know
it had some real weird shit likeyou know Diane what is their
champion open saw one of theirYeah, they're one of the open
songs is the one of the firstsongs in the movie is from them.

(54:53):
Apparently the little smileshort she's wearing in the
poster, or is from their one oftheir video. So
that's interesting.
But I thought it wasinteresting. I think it fits. I
think he fit the film in a in areally weird way. This is also a
deliberately paced film. Part ofthe problem that hurts the film
just a little bit, is a lot ofthe people seem bored on the

(55:16):
film. I mean, it's intentional.
This isn't like bad directing.
It's like, having bored peopleon your film that doesn't really
go anywhere. creates a boringfeeling. Like, once they got
past that it got a lot better, but they're at the beginning
sky. And wow, bad accents. Jasonand Suki have Oh, he's supposed

(55:40):
to be Cuban. And I was readingand I have no idea where the
Cuban was in that accent. It isweird. And Suki is supposed to
be Texas. For those that don'tknow, Texas actually has a
fairly light drawl. It's not areal heavy Southern accent. But
she was somewhere she's British.
And so she ended up somewherebetween Texas and Mississippi.
Oh my god, it was a weird accentand not fabulous. I'm

(56:07):
trying to remember is there somereason he has to be Cuban?
Not that I'm aware of. Okay. Imean, they talk about him being
from Cuba a little bit, but itdidn't seem to
matter. He never makes sense tome when people are like, let's
just have you be from a funplace. Like just let them have
whatever accent they've got.
Yes, exactly. Here. Actually, Ithought Jim Carrey was one of

(56:27):
the most fun parts of thismovie, and it's the only film
has ever been and where he saysno words. He does not have a
single line in the entire film.
Wow. He's not immediatelyrecognizable. But as soon as you
recognize like, Oh, okay. Yeah,I think it was at the end of the
movie that I finally realized.
Is that Jim Carrey?

(56:49):
I could see that. I knew he wasin it from doing the things I
was looking for him and eventhen it took me like, Oh, shit.
So he doesn't have bad accent.
So you know, that's nice. Whatone thing that film does really
neat is I like the dystopianworld that creates it's a really
familiar, it feels like adystopian film you've seen

(57:11):
before, but also lookscompletely different. At the
same time, well, dystopian orpost apocalyptic? Probably post
apocalypse. Yeah. But the lookis interesting. And they they
create separate looks subtle.
Well, except for Keanu Reevescharacter. areas are, are
separate, but there's similar.
So it feels like the same worldbut they also feel like they're

(57:34):
different tribes. And there'sfairly well done in that. Keanu
Reeves is interesting. In thisfilm, he plays a cult leader,
basically, is what it amountsto. And he's uh, I don't know,
if he's, he probably didn't haveto gain too much to be in this
film. I'm pretty sure heprobably just enjoyed himself
and gained, you know, maybe 10or 15 pounds. Because he's a
little bigger looking in thisfilm, and his big total sleaze

(57:57):
looking. He just is not a nicelooking guy. Keanu Reeves that's
a that's an achievement. Though, they do still know how to party.
In the dystopian or apocalypticfuture. They know how to throw
up parties. Of course, it'sBurning Man. Basically, somehow,

(58:17):
they still have like a copymachine. Wow. And electricity,
and the neon light wristbandsand the necklaces that people
wear those things, they have allof those still. So even though
it's supposed to been a verylong time that this has been
going on. Because one of thecharacter things I forgot what

(58:39):
her number is, but it's a veryhigh. But the idea of the
indicator of how tough memoriascharacter is, and he's like
number 88. And they're like, into the 1000s or something. So
he's been living out there for avery, very long time surviving
for a very long time. Here'sanother weird moment. I saw this
and then there's also in 30coins had a scene like this Day

(59:01):
for Night shots are getting alittle worse, in that you can
tell a day for a night shotbecause it's oddly blue. So
overly blue. And instead oflighting the people like they
normally like them because itcreates harsh shadows that are
hard to find. They're just flat.
Yeah, so the people kind ofdisappear and they become a

(59:22):
little harder to see they're notas distinctive because you know
if it's shot at night, they'reputting lights on everybody. So
you can see everybody wellbecause it's dark. But as soon
as they put that blue layerover, it's like I need to do
something more here because Ilike what am I supposed to be
focusing on it'sit's it's really sad because
Fury Road has an amazing day fornight scene in it and they just,

(59:46):
they were just very careful withwhat they did. They made their
their darks, their shadows, likeblack and on through that blue.
You know, whatever a filter, basically over it. And it's just
I think it's just a matter of,of making sure you don't have
like shadows on the ground andstuff like that and making sure

(01:00:07):
that you're, you know, atnighttime, your night sky is
darker than your surroundings.
Yes. And so if you're shootingyou got to be careful that
you're not shooting the sky in abunch of places. Yeah,
no clouds, hopefully. Yeah, yep.
Yeah, well, the one in 30 coinswas when the new priests was
arriving. I think at the end ofthe last episode. Yeah,

(01:00:28):
I kinda liked it, though.
Because it looks so stylistic.
It was like Yeah. Oh, this lookslike it's
and it's a lot shorter than theone in here. Yeah. Yeah. Plus,
they had a very strongbackground with castle or the
church behind them. Which Thisis just an open desert. Like I
said, Here, I don't although Idid enjoy the film, you could
last 20 minutes out of thismovie really easily. Like I

(01:00:50):
didn't really feel it dragging,though, until there's a scene
where she gets pretty sure it'sacid. And her and Jason kind of
meet up in the desert and like, okay, either have something
really weird happened becausethey're on drugs or let's move
past this. See. But the nicething aside, I was just talking
about the Cinematography by LyleVincent was really good. It is

(01:01:13):
really well shot. It's reallyhot feeling like a desert
showed.
Vanessa told me that she didn'tlike any of the angles.
I've actually I'm kind ofintrigued by this phone. I don't
like casting sounds very, verycool.
Yeah, it's very well, it's verywatchable largely because of
that. And vacchiano has thehookup for the place to live.

(01:01:36):
Everybody's out Lizzy living intents and RVs and stuff like
that. And he's got this mansionwith an indoor pool. But part of
the problem is I thought Sookieand Jason's on screen chemistry
was a little lacking. There's acouple scenes with Jason and
Jim, that I thought were farmore interesting. The two of

(01:01:59):
them were really neat on screentogether. I think that would
have been maybe they should havebeen the relationship.
Something for sure.
The philosophy that Keanu Reevesputs out there when he's trying
to convince Suki to join hisharem. Wow. dimestore garbage

(01:02:22):
philosophy. like Oh, dude, youput this together from fortune
cookies, I think I don't thinkit's like the writer was trying
to be philosophic. I think shedid that on purpose and nailed
it. Because it's like, it soundslike all of those stupid coffee.
Their reviews for are fairlyamusing. The one that it kind of

(01:02:42):
amused me the most was a guycalling out the film for trying
too hard to look cool. But notbeing cool, Mike. Oh, so now
you're cool. Go away, sir. Butlike I kind of mentioned before,
I think the biggest failing ofthe movie overall, other than
some pacing issues is I justthink Jason Suki didn't have

(01:03:04):
really strong on stringchemistry, especially since
they're both good. The accentsdidn't help because the two of
them talking to each other inscenes alone. It's like, oh, bad
accent. Oh, bad accent Oh,somebody else say something else
here. But the movies stillinteresting is kind of an
arthouse Mad Max. I wrote thisin the soundtrack with a good

(01:03:29):
soundtrack that some will hate.
I feel attacked.
I think Suki is casting was alittle kind of weird to sort of
like Oh shit, what's her nameand Mad Max Fury Road? Shelley's

(01:03:49):
Yeah, commands the See, butshe's in charge of being Stuff
and Being a badass, it'scompletely fair. The directing
or this style choice. She feltmore like somebody sort of
wandering through the world andthings happening to her as
opposed to her moving everythingforward. And as in most of these
movies, the little kid isannoying. I don't know why they

(01:04:11):
can't do good little kids andapocalyptic. So that's the big
lesson talk.
She has like one line in thewhole movie. No, and kind of a
strange little ending. That'salmost sort of sad. weird way to
end this film. It's not aspoiler ending. So I'll just

(01:04:33):
pass it out there. The littlegirl that Jason's been trying to
rescue and Suki has been helpingher rescue has a rabbit with
her. And Jason takes the rabbitaway. And the next scene is them
cooking it over. Like Jesus,dude,
I felt like I have to think thatthat's kind of a nod to a boy

(01:04:54):
and his dog. Oh, that's Oh,yeah, I
hadn't thought of that. I thinkyou're right. So, you know, it's
kind of like after it got to theend. It's like, what is the love
gift here? So I mean, the realone is probably in a Suki
rescuing Jason's daughter andreturning him. But my choice is
when Jim Carrey gave Jason asnow globe because they were the

(01:05:17):
best couple.
It's amazing how like on screenromance chemistry that does not
work can really pull you out ofa movie. Like, for me, I really
liked crazy rich Asians, butlike, their romance was so bad.
I was like, there was the filmwas great, but I was like, I

(01:05:38):
don't believe for a second youguys are like in love. I think
you're really friends. But like,no, no can No, come here,
plus some trivia notes. BecauseI haven't seen that one time.
shot in 28 days, which isprobably what the budget was
able to keep kinda low. Theentire film was shot in the
exact areas it looks like it wasshot so there's fairly hot as

(01:06:00):
hell shoot in the middle of thedesert. Most of the extras were
from a place called Slab City, which is a California community
that if you've seen the filminto the wild is one of the
places that lead charactervisits. And most of the as
they're called slappers came asthere were no costume needed. So

(01:06:25):
there's a cost saving device.
You must be here for the movie.
The post apocalyptic movie. Whatmovie?
I heard there's free sandwiches.
Yeah, just eat over there. Inshot with your back turned
thanks.
And of course with everythingkiona Reese works on there's a
story about how he's awesome. Sowhile they're filming the movie,

(01:06:50):
he was in a plated place smalltown called nealon, California.
or, excuse me, Rob Brawley,California. And he's speaking
frequently spotted or variouslocations around town, taking
pictures with locals andreenacting some of the movie of
his movie rolls with them.
Oh my god.
That's so good.

(01:07:10):
This guy's just nobody gets itbetter than him. Both Jason and
Kiana are both Hawaiian twocents.
For Keanu.
Yeah. Let's see. Oh, one of thethings that impressed me about
the film I'd love to see amaking of this is I assumed, as

(01:07:31):
most people did that zookeyseffects were digitally done.
They're almost all practical.
Oh, that's interesting. Yeah.
And I read that before watchingthe movies I'm watching are in
the middle of the movie gone.
Okay, maybe this one is digital, but apparently most of it is
just the way they shot. Thedirector loves practical so much

(01:07:52):
that she did everything shecould to make sure they didn't
have to digitally remove herlimb. Wow, it is impressive.
That you were gonna tell me thatthey actually amputated her
image to your crown. That'sright.
I like this one review about itfrom Katie rife. Its aesthetic

(01:08:14):
is so permanent that it's oddlyahead of its time. and easy to
imagine stoners in the year 2035or whenever 10s nostalgia comes
around admiring the film inbetween hits on their 3d printed
bombs. So I like I said it. Ididn't dislike the film. I
thought it was a lot but there'sthere's just several strange

(01:08:37):
decisions that I think wouldhave made it a much better movie
it so I am one of the few peoplewho did not like a girl walks
home alone. I absolutely hatedher. Okay.
It was actually fairly lukewarmfor me as well. So
and I liked this one a lotbetter, but it did suffer from a

(01:08:58):
too long second act wherenothing happened. Yes. Yep.
Yep. Where Suki and Jason aresupposed to be falling in love
and all that stuff happening.
They just they didn't click aswell as I think they should have
I think that really hurts thatwhere it's just like
Yeah, do you feel like you'rejust kind of stuck in this like
world building situation? Yeah.

(01:09:20):
Well, it's also a second act isalways the longest act and
there's supposed to be this youknow, movement towards a goal
and then the goal falling apartand all that. But if you decide,
you know, fuck that fuck threeact structure. What you've got
then is 40 minutes of nothinghappening because it's got a
really strong beginning it's gota fairly decent ending. And you

(01:09:40):
just it just felt like they werekind of making time before they
could get to the third act. ButI still I still enjoyed
it. And I am fascinated to seewhat cliffhanger is like
I heard her on an interview. Youknow their gender swapping the
league And tell that so I don'tknow. It's gonna be really

(01:10:03):
difficult because wasn't thewasn't the villain in that my
guy from race Harry and theHendersons, and yeah, uh, john
Lithgow. How are you going toget a better villain than john
Lithgow getting the it's like,it's like if you had to actually
cast Darth Vader and somethingand then you're gonna remake

(01:10:23):
that movie. And it's like, well, who else is as evil as this
person?
Well, and the other thing is, Idon't know who you could cast
for the unique setup at thebeginning of the movie where
Stallone, the hero of the 80s,and most of the 90s doesn't save
the girl. Say, like, hold theshit. I mean, that was such a Oh

(01:10:45):
my god. moment in that film.
cliffhangers one of those onesthat I think people forget is
good. Still on. Really?
Yeah. Yeah. It's a director, prisoner and yeah. diehard to
pirate. I can name a whole bunchof Israel's like,
john tiernan, right? No. He's adirector. I

(01:11:06):
don't like most of the time.
Look, I'm only one of my firstto hem and haw about it for 14
more minutes and then.
But it's one already Harlan.
It's one of maybe it's one of myfavorites from him. I think it's
one of his best outside of hisfirst film. Probably one of his
best films.

(01:11:26):
All right. Are you done? Now?
I'llcome up with something else.
Hey, what do you think of whatkind of dog Dr. Pepper I like
that?
I picked for my film, return tothe living dead three.

(01:11:51):
they vowed to stay togetherforever, that their love would
never die. But their pledgeremain untested. And the boss's
son remember, until they wentlooking for a thrill and
stumbled on the chili back.
Let's proceed. That even thedead can go on. And tonight,

(01:12:12):
fate will put their promises tothe test. Now that she's dead,
he's frightened to live withouther. But bringing her back is
terrifying.

(01:12:39):
Incredible. Let's do it again.
Nowthese poor bastards crepe brains
do something bad.

(01:13:10):
If she attacks him, he becomeslike her.
Love never dies.
Nice. From 1993 it had a budgetof $2 million. A box office of

(01:13:34):
54,000 sounds about right.
Whoa, Ihaven't seen either of the any
of them.
But well,I knew that I'll get into this
because I am not a fan ofreturning the living dead to
Okay, it gets very silly and soalmost slap sticky. And so I
just assumed that okay, went offthe rails with two. That's it.

(01:13:54):
Because there are like five ofthem. which is which is weird
because the first one is a findof a sequel to a different.
Yeah. So Rotten Tomatoes. Thecritics have this at 58% barely
rotten and the audience has it'sat 40% very rotten. Haha.

(01:14:17):
Directed by Brian Hughes, whodirected society brighter
reanimator, the dentist Faustand a bunch of other really
shitty movies written by johnPenny, who has written a ton of
shitty movies, including alegend of the mummy, amphibious
creature of the deep andhellgate. It stars j Trevor

(01:14:39):
Edmund who was in pumpkinhead,to Lord of illusions and
meatballs forthe stars Melinda Clarke who was
in spawn Gotham and the VampireDiaries and it's done. As Kent
McCord, who was a 70s, TV staplefrom dragnet, Adam 12, seaquest

(01:15:03):
2032, but will always be to me,Captain Troy on the abysmally
awful Galactica in 1980. Okay, this guy, I mean, is just a
movie star, you look at him andyou're like, you know, there was
nothing else he could doprobably in life, but be a movie
star. He's just got a greatship. He's, he's really fun. The

(01:15:26):
movie starts out and we areintroduced to Kurt and Julie who
are very young lovers. And thethe gift from the heart is right
there. But the twist of thismovie says three gifts from the
heart, ooh, he has stolen hisfather's security key, or a
security key card for hisgirlfriend. And she wanted this

(01:15:51):
so that they could explore themilitary base that his dad has
been working at. And it's givento her as a gift. And it's set
up almost like a picnic thatthey're going to go do. But you
can tell she's kind of a Iwouldn't say she's as far as an
activist, but she's veryconcerned about what kind of

(01:16:12):
experiments they must be doingat this military base. So they
sneak in, they climb up into therafters of this area, and they
see that Kurt's dad isoverseeing an experiment with a
deceased body. It's in a roomwith a couple of guys who are
dressed in hazmat suits, andit's all strapped down. And it's

(01:16:34):
a very Night of the Living Deadcorpse, you know, the sunken
eyes and all that stuff. So thecorpse is exposed to this
experimental gas, which reanimates it into a zombie, and
it's like bow. But they've gotit. They've got it all strapped
down, so it can't really doanything. And they're both like,

(01:16:55):
Oh my god, that thing wasclearly dead. And now it's
alive. And they they dosomething like where they drop
something and a guard is walkingby here's them and they have to
scramble and sneak out reallyquick. So they miss the part
where the zombie actually bitesomebody. And the place goes
crazy into lockdown, and theykill everybody in the room

(01:17:17):
because of this.
Oh, including the dad. No, notnot including the dad. He's not
in the room. He's overseeing itfrom a different area. And it's
really great because the there'slike three people in the room
there with Captain Troy. And oneof them is this is this very
striking looking brunette womanthat has like wow, who was this

(01:17:41):
beauty? She looks very familiar.
And I finally put it together.
When I was doing the researchshe played. I believe her name
was Ursula in Superman two. Thatwas Zod. Oh was another one in
the mirror. He was the woman inthe mirror. Yeah, the super the
the Kryptonian evil woman. Sodue to the experiment going

(01:18:04):
awry, Kurt's dad is removed fromthe project and reassigned to
Oklahoma City. Oh, no, no,hello, the Sonics.
Oh, it hurts.
When he informs Kurt that theywill be moving something they
have clearly done multipletimes. Kurt refuses he's madly

(01:18:27):
in love with Julian demodectictired of having to start school
over and all this stuff and theythey take off on his motorcycle,
his dad's yelling at them andeverything. And they're like
we're doing it we're taking offtogether. We're running away
Romeo and Juliet. While they'respeeding down the road. She's,
you know, wrapped behind him.
And she playfully grabs hiscrotch which is probably the

(01:18:50):
thing you shouldn't be doing ona motorcycle at about 50 miles
an hour. And he loses controlthe motorcycle and she is thrown
from the bike smack into atelephone pole. Oh, how? Where?
Where she's killed? Veryhereditary. Yep, it doesn't,
doesn't tear her head off oranything so but Kurt, who still
has his father's key card and asseen a corpse being revived? Oh

(01:19:12):
no leaks is dead girlfriend backinto the place.
Oh no.
And he puts the hazmat suit onand gets her set up and shoots
the gas all over and she pops tolife and she pops to life in a
different way and that she'sshe's not she's not the brain

(01:19:34):
ravenous thing at first. She'sjust like, oh my god, what
happened? You know, and he'slike, it's okay. Everything's
fine. But we got to get out ofhere now. And of course as they
get out, they accidentally tripover something or whatever, but
they they release an actualzombie and they as they're

(01:19:54):
running away. They have startedthe zombie apocalypse.
I'm assuming she is The poster.
She is the poster. Yeah. So he'sdriving her away and everything.
She's like I'm starving. So wedon't know what this is gonna
be. But so he takes her to astore. And there's kind of this

(01:20:15):
a kind of a return of the LivingDead type gang. You know, it's
so interesting what people inHollywood think, you know, punks
are. So this very improbablegroup of people hanging out
together are harassing the storeowner and they start harassing

(01:20:35):
Julie, and all that. And theyshoot to store on her. And she
ends up biting one of them asthey're escaping. And she
realizes, oh my god, that wasdelicious. So they're like,
well, we got to get the storeowner to the hospital. So throw
him in a van that have taken offand everything and well, she

(01:20:57):
can't help herself. Becauseshe's bleeding all over the
place. She's like, Oh, my God,this is what I needed.
Especially brains. Oh, no. SoMeanwhile, the the gang member
that she bought, he's likefreaking out now because he can
feel a change coming andeverything. And so they're
decided they've got to go andfind whoever these kids want to

(01:21:19):
pull this shit. So now they'vegot the military after them
because Kurt's data seen on thescreen that his son had had
rejuvenated his girlfriend thisway. And this gang of ridiculous
gang members all laying outtogether. Let me just tell you
guys something if you've neveractually been to Los Angeles,

(01:21:39):
and you haven't seen a gang, abirds of a feather flock
together, so you're not going togenerally see a multiracial gang
going on, especially with awoman in it as well, who's got
her hair all teased up and youknow, likes to stab, do this
kind of stuff. So I think that'skind of fun and fun. It's not

(01:22:01):
very realistic. And really, ifthat's the worst you can find in
a return Living Dead movie. Asfar as continuity goes, then
it's probably true. Curtin,Julie, they decided they're
going to hide out in the sewers, and the gang tracks them down
there. But meanwhile, Julie hasdiscovered that extreme pain
seems to temporarily make thecravings go away. So she starts

(01:22:25):
mutilating her flesh withvarious items of junk found
around the sewers. face or body, everything is adorned with very
spikes, nails and shards ofglass. And that's the image that
you see on the cover. So thenthe gang breaks in, they're
attacking here. Now there'szombies also attacking there,

(01:22:46):
because the gang is Oh, the gangis all turned into zombies. The
military is there. Now they'vetracked them down to and they
show up for this. I guess it'dbe climactic. It's not very
climactic, but it's supposed tobe it's the military versus
zombies. And what happensinstead of blowing everybody
away, the military grabs all thezombies, they capture them. When

(01:23:07):
they're captured, Kurt realizesthat because he's talking to his
dad, that these are going to beused as weapons now, and that
Julie is going to be used asweapons. So he, he sneaks back
into the base after all of thisstuff,
you know that so well by now, right?
And he freeze the zombies whichare killing the soldiers. In the

(01:23:29):
commotion, the base is caught onfire, and Kurt is bitten. And
she's feeling she's feelinghorrible about this, oh, no,
you're gonna be like me and allthis stuff. And he brings her to
this, this big huge furnace atthe, at the central database.
And she's kind of out of it. Andwhen she asks where they are, he

(01:23:50):
says, We're right where webelong. And they kiss one last
time before being consumed bythe flames. It's all it's all
terribly romantic.
Oh, see you.
I'd forgotten the ending forthat. Yeah.
So the original romanticgestures the card which is given
like an actual gift. Yeah. Butthe next less romantic gesture,

(01:24:12):
I suppose would be giving herlife. Sure, sure. And the third
semi romantic gesture is givingher death once again and give is
giving his own life so that theycan die in each other's eyes
were Romeo and Juliet.
I gotta say, This movie is notas good as returning the living

(01:24:34):
dead 100 times better thanreturning the living dead to and
I thought it was actually reallytouching in a few places. The
acting was pretty strong. Thezombies look pretty good. And I
wish I had been told about thismovie years ago. You know,

(01:24:54):
unfortunately, I was left tojust assume that all of these
movies oh shit and then I wentand looked at The reviews for
the movies after this. Theydidn't follow this storyline at
all. This one is the last of theones that kind of follows the
return of the Living Deadstoryline return the living dead
to has direct references toreturn living dead. And then

(01:25:16):
this one is clearly a follow upto those movies. But I think
after this, they they gocompletely off the rail. A
little bit of trivia The filmwas originally slated for a
wider theatrical release, butafter Warlock the Armageddon
underperformed, I suppose is anice way to try Mark decided to

(01:25:39):
pull back promotion on the filmand released it regionally in
very, very limited release.
That's why it gets 54,000 weird.
Brian Hughes no was disappointedwith the lack of screen time for
his previous female monster andbright of reanimator and wanted
Julie to have a far biggerpresence. And she does kind of
at the end look like the brideof reanimator. So it's fairly

(01:26:03):
You know, it was like, Hey, Ihave a thing.
Yeah, he does. He's a weirddude.
I like this. makeup artists Tomreknown. Claims Clarence
Epperson. The first animatedcadaver in the film was a
homeless vagrant, who demandedmore money and limousine escorts
to the set as the chute gotcloser. Hey, Brian Hughes, Nick

(01:26:25):
claims that the productioncompany put clarinets up in a
motel in Valencia, Californiawhile shooting for fear that if
they let him remain homeless forthat time, they may not be able
to find him easily for shootingif they needed information. It's
a very gooduse case a weird director, I
went through some weird periodssomehow not unintentionally, but
purely by accident seeing like, bride society returned that and

(01:26:47):
one or two others song files.
Yeah, that's right. He's aweird, man. I think that's
probably his most morestraightforward film.
Yeah, I mean, it's very, it'svery much straightforward. It's
not as good as say society, which is a legitimately good

(01:27:09):
movie with a with a neat messagethat this one is it's popcorn.
You know, it's a it's a funlittle zombie romp. He actually
wanted to do the sequel to thisfilm and have the zombies that
were let loose now running allover Los Angeles. And guess

(01:27:34):
well, I'm guessing they didn'thave the budget. Yeah.
Anyway, that was my movie. Wow,ice
sounds pretty good, actually. Imean, I've heard that they're
crappy. So I've just avoided allthose. The first
one. And Kelly knows how truethis is when he talked about how
much he is okay with it. It's ait's usually the first one. I

(01:27:58):
think the first one is great.
person's really good. Stevepolitics is like one of his
favorite movies, and a lot ofpeople really love it. But it's
a sharp, sharp drop off to thesecond one.
Yeah. Yeah. And I don't dislikeit. As much as I just don't love
it as much as every horror fanseems to Mm hmm.

(01:28:20):
Yeah. I mean, every year, you'veprobably seen them on your
Facebook where that warehouseshows up on July 4. Yeah.
And that that warehouse at thebeginning of that, so that's why
Yeah, we've seen indication howpopular it is. Yeah, I
know. I knew it was superpopular. And people talk about
it all the time. And it's beenon my like, maybe I'll get
around to watching it thisHalloween or this October, and

(01:28:43):
it just hasn't quite made it up.
But maybe now.
Yeah, watch one and three.
Yeah, I'll watch 12312 Yeah.
That's awesome. Well, at leastyou had a good pick. I think we
can finally say that you didwin. Well,
I think that we can finallyagree that I did when I say I

(01:29:04):
won everyheydo Potato, potato patata
Well, that means that it is mypick for the next Saviano
yesterday, and I'm reallydigging this whole February
vibe. So I've got for my pick, coming up. unrequited love.

(01:29:26):
romance is not in the air.
Every time.
