Unknown (00:03):
Oh, sorry, did I break your concentration? Somewhere
between science andsuperstition?
To show youStrange Aeons. Welcome to

(00:28):
Strange Aeons radio. That's Ericover there. Hello. That's been s
over there. Hello. I just wantto say hi to Vanessa's mom. All
right. Hello, my mom. We knowyou're listening. You guys, I
kind of surprise you withsomething pretty dang cool. This
whole thing that Danny willefordhas been working on has been a

(00:49):
Strange Aeons radio challengecoin. And they have arrived and
they are so cool. The head sideis of course, Nikola Tesla. And
the tail side is the StrangeAeons radio logo, the the radio
squid that Rob Corliss drew forus. And Eric, do you want to

(01:11):
read that quote, I do love thequote on the back of this one.
One must be saying to thinkclearly, but one can think
deeply and be quite insane.
Yeah. So Danny, and I kind ofput that together. And I told

(01:35):
him, you know, well, it has tobe Tesla. And he was like, What
about a quote, and I don't know,he sent me that. And I was like,
that quote is amazing. And hegoes, You gave me that quote?
I'm pretty good at this, apparently. So yeah, I assume
that's from Tesla, becausethat's what I would have grabbed
it from but I didn't recognizeit. It is very cool, though. And

(01:56):
so we are going to be puttingthese up for sale for a very
small amount of money. And thenit will be your your ticket into
the Strange Aeons army. Thereyou go. Um, you know, you flash
this at a bar or something andprobably be like, you know,
okay, they'll give you the Wink.
And then you get something free?

(02:16):
I bet. Sure. Yeah. Why wouldn'tit work that way? napkin straw
poster. If you're out and aboutand you flash it to the right
person, and they flash one backnow, you know, there you go. We
got a movement going on. Right?
Yeah, these are amazing. Theylook so good. And they feel so

(02:37):
good. They're so hefty. Andjust, I've never had one before.
So I'm very excited. Yeah,Danny.
He was telling me when he wantedto do this. I was like, is this
a thing, this challenge coinsand he collects various kinds of
challenge coins. I doubt any ofthem look as cool as the one he
made. So because I've seen someof these coins before, this one
is full color, and just really, really cool. So that is the

(03:01):
value for value model at work.
Yeah, no kidding. Wow. So thankyou. Thank you. Thank you so
much. Thank you, Dan. I don'tknow if we're worth all that.
But I'm glad you think we are.
And then I also want to say abig thanks to rob Corliss who
designed that logo, because hewas listening to the podcast and
heard me talk about the valuefor value model, and said, you

(03:23):
know, hey, I feel like I've beenlistening to this show for free
for so long. And he drew areally cool image with kind of
the radio monster afterdestroying a building or
something. And it's got StrangeAeons radio written on the side
of the wall, and it's just supercool. Lots of tentacles. And I
thought that was awesome. And weposted that on the Facebook

(03:46):
page. And then Danny and Rob arenow talking because Danny shirt,
he needs that on a T shirt. SoI need that on a T shirt. It's
amazing. I love that so much.
And like the it looks like it'slike blood or something on the
wall. Okay, yeah, on the walls.
Come on.
Rob Corliss is one of my very, very favorite people. And I have

(04:10):
been lucky enough to work withhim on a number of projects. And
he's just kind of my go to guywhen it comes to art and stuff.
And you guys can see whydid he start with planet
Lovecraft? Or was it StrangeAeons? Yeah,
he started with planetLovecraft. Well, okay, I started
planet Lovecraft grabbing one ofhis things he didn't. He was
well established by the time Oh,yeah. So big, big thanks to

(04:31):
everybody. And if you'rewondering what the value for
value model is, it is. If you'regetting something out of this
podcast and you feel like youhave to give something back,
then by all means, make it apiece of art or a challenge coin
or if you want to donate money, there's a way to do that on the
website and all of that stuff.
You are under no obligation todo anything like that. But

(04:52):
everything is appreciated.
Yeah, it's really fun becauselike I'm not talented in many
ways. They're getting thingslike people I know.
not supposed to admit thatquickly.
Getting people who like aresending us really cool art that
I'm like, I could never do thator challenge going on where I'm

(05:13):
like, I don't even know howthese exist or like music. We've
gotten a lot of music. Yes. Andit's just like, I can't play a
single instrument. And this isamazing. So I'm just completely
blown overand those Photoshop images of
like the eight ball magic eightball and
so, and we see you, Ron, I seeRon just posting regular stuff,

(05:35):
and then at the end, he'll throwa Strange Aeons. Like, thanks,
man. Appreciate that.
I've tried. Yeah, I've read afew of those and been like, what
is happening? Is this is thisthis happened and I slept
through it. Like what's goingon? It's just an intense,
intense but lovely writings. Ronis a storyteller.

(05:57):
Hey, you guys. I watched the bigmovie this weekend. Oh, I think
I know which one you're saying.
I bet I do, too. Oh, we talk inarmy of the dead. Yeah. Okay.
What did we think of this?
I watched 46 minutes of it. Oh,so only two more hours to go. I
don't know if I'm gonna watchthose who were watching dinner.

(06:17):
I watched it last night and itcut. You know, it's got the
opening segment that you get inall these action movies that
usually tastes like fiveminutes. Oh, now I get the
beginning of Armageddon or anyof those. It's like, Hey, here's
the guy in the motorcycle. Hey,here's the smartass here is like
pre credit stuff. And it's done.
My Damn it seems to be 246friggin minutes and they haven't

(06:39):
even started anything. Becausethe idea of an Ocean's 11 zombie
thing? is kind of cool. Sure.
Yeah. Like this is not. So Idon't know. What did you think?
Because sounds like you watchedthe whole I watched
the whole thing. I didn't thinkit was bad. I didn't think it
was very good. But I didn'tthink it was bad. I thought it

(06:59):
was way too long. I think thatDave Bautista is a much better
actor than I thought he was.
Yes. He's really good.
He really is. He's so charming.
And I've enjoyed being surprisedby him much in the way that I
was kind of surprised by therock at some point. Yeah, kids
are really similar, like rockvibes. But

(07:20):
yeah. The problem with thismovie and most of Zack Snyder's
movies is that everyone has tomake really stupid mistakes in
order to keep the movie going.
Right? Because if they if theyjust did everything the way your
I would do it, there would be nomovie. Yeah,
it was definitely. Yeah, I thinktoo long is definitely a great

(07:43):
way of describing it. I thinkthat intro I was like really
confused as to what the moviewas about for a very long time
because I didn't know anythingabout it. All I saw was like the
poster. I didn't even know ZackSnyder was behind it until
partway in and it was like, Iwas like, wait, okay, so is this
like a zombie survival? Nope.
Okay, is this a? Is this likethey're gonna band together and

(08:04):
Nope. Okay. And then by the timethey explained that they were
doing a heist, I was like, Oh,well, that's really cool. And it
is fun. I think it's a fun film.
But it is like we could havejust shaved so much time off
because no matter how much timeyou spend with those characters,
you're never really like anymore close to those characters.

(08:26):
Like I don't feel like I stillfelt very lost between his
father daughter relationshipeven though I saw like 10
minutes of some kind of build upabout it.
Yeah, I'll probably I probablywill end up finishing at some
point just because he's done Ilike I like Zack Snyder I'm not
one of the Yeah, I think thepoint last night is just like
kind of bored I'm gonna watchsomething more entertaining

(08:48):
tonight. And then theyintroduced the thing of I have
to hunt down this mom who wentin there's like that's a side
mission I don't needthat was that was actually a
very fret like when they keptdoing going back to that
plotline. I was like you guysThis sucks This sucks and escort
mission in the middle of thisamazing film or not amazing film
sorry but fun film like it justslows it down and really time it

(09:09):
really did just any any motionthey were finally getting was
suddenly ground to a halt. Wentback to that storyline. I was
like this is so unnecessary. Iguess they needed like a lever
to make that one person go in.
But I was like choose anotherlover This is this lovers. No
good.
Yeah, well, okay, so I thinkwe're all kind of on the same

(09:32):
page.
When one question though is whatdid you guys think of tignish
tech nitara pignataro.
I if I didn't know all of theall the work that went into that
I would not have noticed at allthat she wasn't part of the
movie. I agree.
Yeah, I the only thing that kindof tipped me off where there
were a couple of times werelike, well, her head would be a

(09:56):
little bit too like the thewhite behind it and almost felt
like she was Sort ofdisappearing into a little bit.
So every once in a while and butit looked artsy, so it's fine.
And then other times I noticedher arms got way buffer
occasionally, like they just gota lot more strapping and I was
like, Oh, you've been workinghere. Would you say though that
you were hyper aware of thatbecause you were looking for it?

(10:18):
Absolutely. Yeah. I was tryingto because I was I found out the
very very start when I waswatching it that that's what had
happened. And I was justfascinated. And I was like, Oh
my god, okay, when it when is itand when isn't it? And you know,
trying to figure out like whenthey pasted her head on it was,
you know, yeah, yeah, I thought that was
pretty good. And I thought shewas pretty good. And so yeah,
I'm totally fine with that. Idid love the the zombie Tiger

(10:41):
was probably my favorite.
Oh, my zombie Tiger for the win.
Out of salutely. I couldn't workout the zombie main bad guy. Is
that the same zombie from thestart or the zombie he eats? Or
the the first soldier he eats?
Oh, youknow what? I don't know. I guess
I assumed it was the zombie fromthat. I thought so true. But

(11:03):
thenonce but the face looked enough.
Like the first guy he eats thatI thought maybe it was actually
him. Okay.
But I can tell. I don't know.
Some some implied zombie loveand going on here though.
Zombie lore. They just went theyjust went to town. They really
they did. Why do I mean this islike it felt like a comic series

(11:26):
or like a show. It didn't feellike just a one part movie.
Well, and it is apparently justthe first part of a series. Oh,
well, there. Yeah. So he has adeal with Netflix for more
movies in this universe.
Even though this was out on HBO.
Netflix, was it? Oh, I'm sorry.
Wow. I don't know. I was Iwatched it. I'm not sure what.

(11:47):
That's great. Once you subscribeto him. It's just like, Yeah,
exactly. Oh, that's awesome.
Okay, well, I mean, we'll see.
Maybe it'll suck.
I think I think he gained alittle too much. I can make a
movie as long as I want to.
Because the Justice League'slike, pull the reins back a
little bit. Yeah, they getsnappy shit like 300 there's no
wasted time and 300 Yeah. Andthere's really almost no wasted

(12:09):
time and Donna the dead. But inthis one, there's a lot of
wasted time. Only within 46minutes of
problem being that, you know, inthis new format, you don't have
to the reason the 90 minutemovie came about was so that the
theaters could show as many aspossible in a day. And so like

(12:31):
when Tarantino comes with athree hour movie, they're like,
it's a good thing. We're gonnasell out all of these shows,
because we're missing a certainamount of plays. Now, there was
so much shit because I was stillgetting the, like, retail trades
and stuff at suncoast whenTitanic was coming out.
There was a lot of pushbackabout that a lot. And then it
became you know, for the timethe most profitable film ever

(12:55):
made. And everybody in theatersthat Oh, nevermind.
Yeah, I think we're gonna seeour longer movies now that
there's no real you know, nothing to stop them from making
your movie and unfortunately,Zack likes long movies.
Yeah, and that's the that's theproblem is like, you know,

(13:16):
they've got especially duringCOVID they've got a captive
audience that is just likewhatever I don't care. I don't
have to go anywhere to go I justwatched six seasons and shits
Creek what's exactly no big dealat all. But But I also like that
because of those, you know thatthe freedom you get from
streaming movies, you we get somany more interesting titles and

(13:39):
big wise and short films tolike, what was the one where
they were? host?
Oh, right. 50 some odd minute.
Yeah. Yeah. Which was great forit. How about you? Oh, man.
Okay, well, that was the one Iwas going to talk about. So
let's see. I've watched so manythings recently. Which one do I

(14:04):
want to talk about? Well, I didfinally get through and I'm on
the last episode of season oneof warrior. Oh, nice. Yeah, so
that's been a real tree. I thinkmy favorite episode out of all
of them so far as the like wildwest one yeah. And so solid and

(14:24):
it's just Yeah, the show is justincredibly It started off I
think really slow that I did notI was not like in love in the
first episode. But I've justdefinitely every time the gangs
like fight in the streets, I getreally nervous because I like at
least one person on all sides.
I'm like, don't break that guy'sarm though. Really? Like, please
survive this next step. Sothat's been fun and the person

(14:48):
who plays I don't remember theWarriors name off the lead us.
Sure. Anyway, but the lead wayThey show him young. I was like,
This child actor is awfullyfamiliar. And I looked it up and
he plays young Danny and papertiger. Oh, nice. Yeah, same kid.

(15:09):
I was like, I swear, I was like,I better not be just racist.
Like, I really wanted thefamiliar because it's actually
and I was like, Oh my gosh, yes,it's the exact same kid. That's
great.
You know what I love? I betternot be racist. I was like, Fuck
you, Vanessa. If you're just allAsian children look the same.

(15:34):
And it's like, no, it's the samechild I
so happy. But also, it's asmall, you know, it's a small
community of actors who havethat kind of talent, and
especially from that age group.
So, you know, I'm sure that thatkids getting a lot of a lot of
work.
I hope so. Speaking of. Iwatched paper tigers. Oh, my

(15:56):
gosh, I have not watched it yet.
It's fun. It is definitely afamily film. Yeah. You know, it
definitely pushes the realm intothe world. Wonderful World of
Disney kind of movies. Becauseit's just so it plays the book
really, really well. Yeah. And,but the performers overall are
so good and so much fun towatch. That it's just, it's just

(16:21):
fun. It's well done. It'sincredibly well shot. Hey, it's
well edited.
One some kind of like bestediting award somewhere. Because
the Chris who I was assistinglike was gloating about it.

(16:41):
Yeah, no, it's, um, I have beentrying to tell people, it's a
martial arts movie. But it is afamily film. And it's and it's a
comedy. And it's definitely theoriginal version that we first
cut, it was a much darker movie.
And we just slowly startedstripping more and more and more
out of that. SoI can see why it's getting all
the accolades and why it's, youknow, it's not going to be

(17:02):
probably not like 95 on RottenTomatoes, but it should
definitely be in the well rankedas it should. It's good. It's
fun. And it's always fun to seea Seattle shot thing where you
can recognize the city like theopening shot is one of those
dragons from the Internationaldistrict. Yeah, I go, I know
exactly what we got.

(17:25):
Yep, I remember when we had comepleated filming, and they went,
Oh, we need some establishingshots. booked some people to run
around the edges. Get some stuffthat's around there. Yeah. And I
love that they did use a lot oflocal Chinese and Asian
establishments to like they usedto harbor and like there's just

(17:45):
a lot of the whole city kind ofcame together and, and through
and a great. The Asian communityhere is an incredible, it's just
incredible.
So we also have the advantageand disadvantage of not being
heavily filmed. city wereheavily used for locations, but
they actually give us everythingshot in Vancouver, or some other

(18:08):
city and it's called Seattle. Soyou get a lot of people that are
it's still exciting to see afilm crew in the area. It's not
a thing you got right now thetime to cash in. So it's it's a
neat city to film. I just wishwe had more people filming in
it.
Agreed. Well, Soderbergh wasjust here. Is this still

(18:29):
available? Just as a rental?
Yeah, yeah. Yep. Absolutely. Um,it's not too expensive, either.
It's not like 699 I think wasvery cool. Well, I watched a
really interesting movie. Ican't even tell if it's good.
But Eric, I think you've likedit a lot. Vanessa, maybe. And it
is called the gin, DJ, I N. Oh,I saw a trailer for those sounds

(18:52):
familiar? It is about a youngboy. And his dad who moved into
a new house and his dad works asa radio like a DJ in the night
shift. So the boys alone in thehouse. And this malevolent force
shows up. And the entire movietakes place in the house and

(19:14):
this boy trying to keep awayfrom this thing. And the whole
thing is he is mute. Oh, forabout 70 minutes of this there
is no talking at all. Whoa. Andit's all one location. So it's,
it's not even that it's thatgood. It's just so interesting.

(19:34):
And so well done that you'relike, wow, holy cow. This and
the kid is amazing. Very cool, huh? You know, you're just one
of these amazing little actorswho is given no dialogue. So he
has to, you know, do everythingwith facial expressions, stuff
like that. And it is. I was kindof blown away with it. The bad

(19:56):
part is there's a lot of stupidstuff going on in it. Because
they have to kind of keep him inthe house. Well, but I just
thought, you know, the wholeidea and the way they pulled it
off was definitely worthwatching just for that if they
somehow managed to do a featurefilm in one location with pretty

(20:16):
much one actor. Wow. And nodialogue. This is a new film
brand new. Okay. Yeah, Iremember. I want to say Netflix
put out a film when they werefirst putting out their original
content. Where was a girl whowas blind? And like somebody is
trapped in the house with her. Ithink you're thinking of Hush,

(20:36):
maybe she? She's deaf? Oh, thankyou. Yeah. Yeah, so that just
sounds kind of similar to like,as far as restraints to that
one.
Right. Right. Well, I would saygive it a give it a try for the
filmmaking. Very cool. Andthat's a set of shutter or it's

(20:58):
a rental right now. But Iimagine it'll be coming very
soon to shatter. Yeah.
Um, well, I checked out a god, what channel was twitch channel,
what streaming services is onthere all blending together for
me today? Yeah, stowaway, whichis a science fiction film in

(21:18):
which stowaway is on board. Ithink that is on shutter. I
know. It's not a horror version.
So I think it's either Netflixor Hulu. It's got Anna Kendrick
and chick from Oh my god, themovie with the family. Anyway.
Australian horror film No,sorry. The Australian actors

(21:42):
from the horror film with thefamily and the little girl is
her head.
Oh, Wolf Creek or something likethat. Now, you guys totally know
what this is. But it's fine. Buthe say lose his head. I think of
a killer film. But that is notAustralian. No, no. She's an
Australian actress. Oh,the mom from that movie. Okay,
anyway. Um, does not matter.

(22:08):
Yes, it was hereditary. Yep. Themom from hereditary, isn't it?
Oh, yeah. Really great actors.
Feels like a small, cheap COVIDmovie. Like it's just got four
actors in an honest set. Buthaving seen a lot, a lot of
science fiction movies, and alot of space movies, and a lot
of Oh, no, how do we survive?

(22:29):
We've got x problem. It was sojust by the book. I was like,
there's nothing there's I don'tknow why it exists. I have no
idea why they made this movie.
Yeah, I mean, no, I mean, it'sgood acting and you know, great
effects. Like it looks reallygood. But when you get to the
end, you're like, Why? Why didwe Why? What is this? What am I
getting out of this movie? It'slike nothing. Wow. Anyway,

(22:56):
so that's a that's a pass onthat.
I'm still away. I feel like ifyou've ever seen a spacecraft in
any kind of trouble movie beforeyou can skip this one, because
there are much better ones outthere. Yeah, I've
seen a few of those. Yeah. On avery, very, very different
plane. Another Andy Milliganfilm the body beneath. Now one

(23:17):
of the weird things about anyMilligan is there's a you know,
a lot of think of the was atjohn Ford, I think said if you
need to tell your movie withwords, find another story. He's
gone the other direction forthat. He is an incredibly
verbose writer. And he gives leeverybody lots to say, which
sometimes is hilarious andsometimes Okay, yeah, I got to

(23:40):
move on. But, boy, his vampiremovie is weird. I mean, really
weird. It's sort of a telling ofDracula. except he's kept alive
by intravenous drug use times.
And then there's the threebrides who kind of look like
Dawn of the Dead zombies theoriginal Dawn of the Dead. So
they're these bright blue.

(24:03):
wandering around and verystrange. Oh, I don't know if
Aerosmith microphone came tolife with all the scarves kind
of looks like that. How? Well sowhat's the name of this movie,
the body beneath. And AndyMulligan? Yeah, remind me who he

(24:27):
is. He's a very strange, ourunderground filmmaker who's just
troubled and weird and makesmakes his movie he's often
writer, director, cameraoperator editor. And somehow he
makes these films that sometimesare oddly compelling and

(24:49):
interesting, but they're allstill kind of terrible. It's
It's such a weird experiencewatching his films. So I find it
uniquely different. Maybe Maybenext time now I've got a couple
other box sets of DVDs. I haveartists that are having deep
dive into yet. And so you know, maybe I'll do one of those next

(25:10):
everybody knows who I'm talkingBergman or sorry. No, no, no,
it's not just you.
Well, cool, how about we take alittle break? Look at our
challenge coins. And then whenwe come back, we are going to be
talking as seen.

(25:36):
Now in the sense that you arewatching now, does the channel
ever come in like this and giveyou only sound, or when the
picture comes in clear likethis? Is the sound ever so hard
to get that all you hear isthis? Well, that never happens
with this wonderful newWestinghouse set because of the

(25:59):
miracle of Westinghouse synchrotuning, picture and sound coming
together, just like that. Andonce tuned, this set stays
locked into. Now, here'ssomething that will really amaze
you. Here's the size of thescreen in most table models. Now
let's compare it with this newWestinghouse screen. There. Now

(26:20):
that's quite a difference, isn'tit? engineering improvements
give you a huge 17 inchrectangular screen in this
wonderfully compact newWestinghouse set. Just ask your
dealer for the WestinghouseLinwood. There is no other set
in its price range that compareswith it. You can be sure if it's

(26:41):
Westinghouseready? Yes. Yeah. Oh, my God.
showed you that again. We havereturned Vanessa, this was your
sub genre.

(27:02):
Yeah, absolutely. So I chose forthis week, as seen on TV. And
that doesn't mean TV movie. Whatit means is a movie that either
inspired a TV show or a TV showthat inspired a film. So there's
there are a lot of options outthere. finding something that
was at all even remotely off thegrid was pretty tough. Because

(27:24):
if you're making a TV series outof a movie, then it's probably a
big property. So I was lookingat things like Exorcist and Omen
and but I had a moment ofinspiration, shall we say? So I
chose the 1992 movie. Buffy theVampire Slayer.

(27:48):
I just thought this girl namedBuffy the Vampire. I like to
even though she seemed kind offlaky. But as it turns out,
we've been chosen lovers. Do youwant to stop to the Empire? Is
Elvis talk to you startedgetting weird around here. We're
having a nightmare. threw aknife at my head. She was the

(28:16):
one person I could really count.
feel him a lot. Hi. Hi. I'mdoing I'm saving your typing
this relationship has potential.

(28:36):
How's it going? You're obviouslyhaving a bad hair day. If she
could just get rid of thoseother guys. Steve Swanson I am
so sure. Donald Sutherland. Withwhat through HAUER And Luke
Perry. Cannot like other girls.
Buffy the Vampire Slayerdirected by friend rubella. Not

(29:11):
sure if you guys have heard ofthis. Remind?
Yes. So it went on to inspirethe Buffy TV series that ran
from 97 through 2003. And Mr.
Wheaton was heavily involved inobviously heavily involved Yeah,
it was his baby um yeah, so butlet's let's focus on the movie

(29:34):
to begin with. budget of 7million box office 16 point 6
million. So did pretty good.
Rotten Tomatoes score of 36%from audience pretty rough 43%
from critics so yeah, it's notvery good. I'm the director is a

(29:59):
lady named for In Rubel cuz cuzI cuz kazoo k z UI, right cuz
she's from she's from Japan. Shewas also she's more known as
being a sales agent between usprojects over to Japan and gets

(30:20):
a lot of stuff brought over andI'll get more into that later.
So she's actually only directedthree things, which was Buffy
this movie behind the scenes ofBuffy, and a movie called
tokyopop, which I don't know alot about. But she did also
executive produce all of angeland all of Buffy the amount of

(30:42):
her hands being in the mix ishard to say. So probably not at
all. Not at all. She was thedirector. Yeah, yeah. Well, more
importantly, she actuallyfinanced and found this film.
Oh, and helped write it. Okay.
Yes. So written by Joss Whedon.

(31:02):
But basically, she found thescript told him hey, I want to
get behind this. I want to giveyou a shot here. And then she
helped him develop the characterBuffy and the storyline, so yep,
pretty pretty heavily involved.
So the writer Joss Whedon, youguys would know from Angel Buffy
dollhouse, Firefly Dr. Horriblesingalong blog. Cabin in the
Woods Avengers Agents of SHIELDthe Nevers and Justice League

(31:24):
the first and alsobeing a complete prick to women
apparentlyYeah, well human beings as a
whole. Yeah. Yeah, it only getsworse every time I look into it.
It's like I've opened the bookand four more chapters of bad
have like coaches addedthemselves in well you
know what I just found out abouthim is that just is his actual

(31:47):
name is Joseph and goes by Jossand I was like, you know what if
I had known this earlier, Iprobably would have said this
guy must be a raging prick.
Absolutely I can't go by Joelike a regular fucking Come on
fall in line with the otherJoseph Yeah, I bet is taking
tougher as a name because yourname is Christopher fuck is that

(32:07):
way we hotel for Greece? Bad.
It's real bad. Oh, I'm reallyderailed. Please continue. Now
even more upset. Alright. Andtrust me I'm really upset. Okay,
so this movie stars KristySwanson. You guys might have

(32:27):
seen her in deadly friend Prettyin Pink Ferris Bueller's Day Off
mannequin on the move. First hotshots in early edition of Donald
Sutherland as the watcher inthis version Merrick he's done
in 198 things mostly known aswith water, you know, screaming

(32:49):
involved. He usually does likefive to six movies a year this
guy is like he's still workinghis butt off. Yeah. Paul Reubens
as Amylin, which is kind of theguy helping raise the watcher in
this version, the masterservant. She's been in 121
things. most well known aspeewee but he does a lot of TV

(33:13):
work. Yeah, sure. Yeah. Which Idid not realize that he's just
so heavily involved in so manyprojects. Rutger Hauer, almost
unrecognizable as Los Altos, themaster very bad makeup, very bad
acting very bad, everything allaround. He was Roy Beatty and
Blade Runner, Luke Perry aspike. He's the love interest.

(33:38):
You may know him from Dylan andnano to widow. And he was also
in 47 episodes of Riverdale asFred Andrews and unfortunately
died of a stroke a couple yearsback now at the age of 57. Very
on really sad, really, reallysad. And David Arquette as Benny
Pike's burnout stoner friend 140things including scream and

(34:03):
never been kissed. You guys knowwho David Arquette is? Sure. Oh
yeah. He's also in 128 episodesof Jake and the Neverland
Pirates which I had to do forDisney and I hate that show.
Nothing good comes of it likenothing happened. It's so boring
every episode The same screwJake get off the island.
Alright, Captain Hook, go dosomething better. Anyway. Hilary

(34:27):
Swank as Kimberly the dumbfriend that was an interesting
role. I had not seen HillarySwank play like a total airhead
before so she is one of threevery dumb Friends of the lead.
You guys might know her fromboys don't cry. Stephen root as
the principal maybe not reallysure. She's in 257 things

(34:50):
including office space anddodgeball. Candy Clark, whose
name was very front and centeron the credits of this film. She
plays Buffy his mother she Hewas in 70 things including
American Graffiti man who fellto Earth blue thunder and
Zodiac. So she was kind of like, one of the big, tight names on
this. I mean, definitely. Theobviously, everyone in this is

(35:14):
pretty well known, but LukePerry was just coming off 90210
so he was kind of at the heightof his fame. Donald Sutherland
was already pretty well knownKristy Swanson. I don't think
she was that huge at this point.
So the plot, it's not gonna takevery much time to say Buffy the
Vampire Slayer, No for real. Sothere are aspects of her being

(35:39):
Buffy that are decidedlydifferent that they abandoned
for the show.
Absolutely. So first of all, she's just like the other Buffy
she's very, like popular chillcheerleader, beautiful blonde,
very, very, like high level inthe high school food chain type

(36:00):
person. But she's kind of moreof a mix of the Cordelia from
the TV show. She is vapid ashell. She's completely stupid.
She's just very fashionobsessed. She's really like in
with her clicker friends. And itisn't till very, very far into
the movie that she starts todevelop any kind of personality.

(36:21):
But she's very athletic. Sothat's fun to watch. A lot of
somersaults. she discovers thatshe is the chosen one, and will
be trained by Donald Sutherland, her watcher to kill vampires.
Meanwhile, the master is beingprepared to rise by his minions.

(36:44):
Sounds familiar? On the otherside of town, Luke Perry, and
his burnout buddy Benny, ourtotal loser cast offs that
everybody hates to nobody likes, and they're just either always
high or drunk or just on theoutskirts. He is pedaling around
town when his best friend getskind of nabbed and eaten by one

(37:07):
of the vampires because they'retrying to grow an army to take
over and help the master rise.
So about halfway into the movie.
Pretend a lot of stuff happens,I guess. But nothing really.
Pike and Buffy end up findingeach other in a graveyard and
hit it off. Pike knows thatvampires exist because his best

(37:27):
friend turned into one. Buffyknows vampires exist because
somebody told her and she's hadto train to figure out how to
kill them in very fun montageform. And they find themselves
starting to fall for each other.
She also is simultaneouslygetting more and more away from
her group of friends, she'sstarting to realize that the
things that they care about arestupid, and that there is more

(37:48):
to life, such as saving theworld from vampires. But of
course, not without a moment ofOh god, they're my friends are
calling me out on skippingcheerleading practice and
ignoring my boyfriend and justnot being as cool. My clothes
are now five minutes on date. Soshe has a little reversal in

(38:10):
there where she tells herwatcher to buzz off, and she
will go and go to prom. Dang it.
And of course, that means hewill then get kidnapped by the
vampires and be killed. We'renot anywhere near the end of the
movie. So it seems like weird, but Okay, so now she has

(38:34):
incentive to go back and beBuffy. She She goes to prom and
of course the vampires riseattack the school the Masters
there, he plans to turn her andshe kicks everyone's butt
alongside pike and the movieends there on a motorcycle, the
driveway. So that things I likeabout this movie. You know, the

(38:58):
humor is actually pretty fun.
Both Steven route and PaulRubens are really funny in it. I
would say that the humor feelslike it's one kind of thing. The
first half the movie and adifferent thing the second half.
So the first half I didn't thinkit was funny at all because it's
just dumb people being dumb.
Like I don't find like vapidhigh school girls to be a fun

(39:19):
thing to watch when they're justwalking around saying stupid
stuff. Although I will say feellike clueless picked up quite a
few nods from this because therewas a lot of lap over between
her group of friends and the waythey were acting and talking and
dressing and the clueless kindof situation. But the second

(39:39):
half, it becomes actually funny.
like Paul Rubens gets to do alittle acting Steven route gets
more and more and morescreentime were in the high
school gym, for example, the thehalf dead vampire kids who were
all laying around, he goesaround with detention slips and
because you get detention, youget detention. You get all this
detention and just slappingstick stickers on them. And they
have this really fun and creditsequence where the different

(40:04):
characters come back and credit, including Stephen root and also
Hillary Swank and talk aboutwhat happened. And everyone has
a different, like very characterdriven response to what was
going on and all very, verydifference. I think that is a
fun snapshot of a very specificmoment and the 90s I think

(40:25):
that's really neat. It feelslike an archival piece. So
that's good. It's fun to watchLuke Perry and Donald Sutherland
really kind of just acting ingeneral, it's always a joy.
Although Luke didn't need arazor.
Oh, my God. Thank you forreminding me that that was
harrowing. He has this weirdlittle piece of hair growing

(40:48):
underneath his bottom lip, andnothing else. And it's so
hideous, I don't know whatthat's called. I don't know.
There's nothing else involved inthat. Just, it was so bad. I was
like, I can't watch this movie.
And then he like gets ready forprom. And he shaves it off. And
I was like, Yeah, thank you,Lord, there is a God. He helped

(41:09):
get rid of this fucking piece offur on his face. so awful. Other
things I don't like it feelslike they're like I said,
there's It feels like there'salmost different movies
happening at the same time. Thepacing is really wonky. The fact
that Buffy and pike don't reallyeven start to have any kind of

(41:31):
relationship until halfwaythrough the film feels really
weird. And then it becomes youknow, like the her watcher is
killed and she has to getvengeance, which should be at
the end of the second act. Butit feels like it happens again,
like just halfway through orsomething just doesn't feel
quite well paced. But it doeskind of feel like a TV movie. So

(41:51):
shockingly, um, the things thatare different from the TV show,
or the same. The mentor menteerelationship between Buffy and
the watcher feels one to one, itfeels exactly the same. But I
will say in retrospect, it nowfeels kind of weird with the

(42:12):
older man helping a young girland like showing up in her
locker room and stuff. Feelsi don't i don't see the problem
with this.
The outsider boyfriend. Hischaracter feels like a really
strong mix of Zander and Angelcombined. So he doesn't feel
completely different. But he'sgot the leather jacket and he's

(42:34):
standing around in the shadows, but he also has a goofy sense of
humor. And he's like a stoner soyou feel like okay, like I can
kind of see where this is comingfrom. There is the scene where
the guy falls on top of thegirl. Or the girl falls on top
of the guy. Oh, Wonder Womanthing? Yep, same exact same.
It's in there. I was like, Oh,god, no. So that's in there. And

(42:56):
they've spent a lot of time likethat, like just sitting on just
I think she's on top of him justlay in there talks talks to him
but whatever. Anyway, that's ajust thing. It's the job thing.
Thisis the job signature move to
kind of watch this for like nowwatching Quentin Tarantino
movies. You're watching for thedamn feet shot. It's like, oh,
there isexactly like so much feet. The
dance. The prom does feel a lotlike the bronze. She ends up

(43:21):
like standing at the edge likewatching other people dance and
having this nice low moment. AndI was like, Man, this could be
ripped Ray Eilish. Oh, it feelsso right on. But the music is
completely different. Way morepop songs way more upbeat
energy. And obviously the showhad a lot of like indie bands
that were contributing and likesmaller, smaller level stuff.

(43:43):
And I just feel like it's thesense of humor is just so
different. I mean, the show isdefinitely much more serious
than this is extremely wacky, like, as wacky as you can be.
Do we think that that might havebeen what the director's

(44:04):
rewriting of the script was wasbringing in?
Yes, the way the humor isplayed? Yes. And there was a bit
of rewriting, but I wouldn't sayas much as you think. So I think
a lot of the stuff that gotrewritten was he had a lot of
smarts, stuff that the producerswere like, you're having way too

(44:26):
much dialogue in here and noone's gonna understand what it
is. And so they were likecarving away at that kind of
stuff. But the actual plot wasmostly the same except for the
ending, of course, because atthe beginning of Buffy the
Vampire Slayer, the TV show wefind out that Buffy was kicked
out of her school for burning itdown because it was filled with
vampires. And she did not have aboyfriend. She did not have a

(44:49):
watcher and her mom is now verynice. And in the movie her mom
is not. So that's where youstart to see he had a different
ending in mind. He At adifferent kind of pivot point
and it's probably going to be adarker project. Do you suppose
the Paul Reubens was ad libbed?
I 100% was ad libbed? I don't. Imean, like there's a great death

(45:12):
scene. So in the show thevampires you know, you stake
them and they poof go away. I'min this know their bodies are
still there. And Paul Reubensdeath is he stabbed with a
ruler? And he's just going likeslowly falls down and then gets
back up again. He's like, ah,whoa. Like, I mean, this was a

(45:34):
moment that they like so muchthey put it in the trailer. So
he's just kind of a joyconsidering his character is
nothing like he tries to have agood time with it. So a little
bit of trivia. Oh, man, guys, Idon't I don't even know where to
go. There's a lot the problemlike I said, Every time you open

(45:58):
the weed and book it gets alittle bit worse. But let's
stick to like some of thecontroversy between the film The
TV, we didn't have actually soldthe film to country singer Dolly
Parton's production company sanddollar. In the fall of 91.
Production was limited to fiveweeks to accommodate Luke
Perry's Beverly Hills 90210filming schedule, the film was
taken in a different directionfrom what one of its writers

(46:21):
Joss Whedon intended. And fiveyears later, he created the
darker and acclaimed TV seriesof the same name. We talked
about the details that weredifferent. Joss Whedon has
expressed his disapproval withthe film's interpretation of the
script stating, I finally satdown and had written it and
somebody had made it into amovie and I felt like Well,

(46:41):
that's not quite her. It's astart, but it's definitely not
quite the girl. Even though hesat down with the director and a
was, according to officialbuffets watchers, official
buffets watchers guide, Weedenwrote the pilot to the TV series
as a sequel to his originalscript, which is why the TV
series makes references to theevents that did not occur. He

(47:04):
has gone on to make a comiccalled the origin, which is
apparently the version that hethinks he would have had. In
2009 Hollywood Reporter reportedthat it was possible that there
was a remake in the works, butJoss would have no involvement
in the project. But this mighthave actually been a powerplay
by the studios to try and forcehim to get involved. This caused

(47:26):
so much anger among the fansthat the project was kind of
shelved. July of 2019, Wheatonannounced at San Diego Comic Con
that he was working on a rebootof the series, and it might
feature a slayer of color. Let'sjust assume that won't happen.
So, um, I feel like it'simportant. It's really really

(47:48):
hard to look into Buffy lore andnot see Joss Whedon's
version on everything. Becausehe you know, it's his show. It's
his baby. He's been praised asthe God of nerd culture for a
very long time. So you havethings like the watchers guide,

(48:09):
the weed inverse, the Wikipediapage put together by his fans,
and you start to see thisstrange, dark intrusion of his
thoughts on everything. So forexample, the IMDB page for the
director. In the trivia somebodyhas very nicely added how she

(48:30):
only financed and produced thefilm and had nothing to do with
the TV series. And there's justlittle jabs all the way through.
Like, they talked about how shewas going to steal the project
from Joss to do this reboot, andhow like, she wasn't even going

(48:50):
to let him be a part of it. ButI found an interview with her
very long and it's kind ofboring, but that's okay. I was
like, I need to know who theheck you are. She basically
said, Oh, yeah, they'veapproached me, but um, they're
looking for the right fit. So Ithink they're going to make the
right choice, whoever it is thatthey pick and we'll see what

(49:12):
happens. So she was like, notthe one who is behind this and
forcing him out. So heapparently told people on set.
James Marsters recalls thatanytime you brought up the
movie, he would basically startto cry and talk about how his

(49:32):
project was ripped from him ifstolen from him. And this is
like a really terrible sorepoint in his life. To the point
where So James Mercer says thisand the fan started a change.org
petition built specificallyasking Fran and cause Causeway
her husband who ran the companythat was basically allowing just

(49:53):
make the show to give Josh 100%creative license because he
didn't have So I guess the wholeBuffy show, he didn't have any
creative license like they weresticking him under their thumb.
And he was telling everybody, anytime they tried to get
involved, the show would stopbeing funny. And they The reason
that every time it sucked, itwas because they came in and had

(50:14):
some kind of involvement. Yeah.
And so this petition was born, and luckily only had 236 votes
and was currently closed. JamesMarsters has, of course, since
retracted any kind of statementabout this and also agrees with
the other cast members that Josswas toxic fuel. I will say the
cool thing about this personwho's the director who takes

(50:39):
American projects and bringsthem over to Japan, she, she is
behind some really incrediblemoments. She actually worked
personally with Jim Jarmuschearly early early on in his
career to help him get stuff outinto Japan because he was really
struggling. So she got strangerthan paradise that there, she
then worked with Amir Milan fora stop making sense. And then

(51:04):
Spike Lee approached her to tryand get she's got to have it
over there. She's also workedwith the Coen brothers to get
Barton Fink over to Japanbecause they tried to get
Miller's Crossing out and itcompletely bombed. So she's
responsible for making the CoenBrothers a thing at all. In
Japan. Also, David Lynch, sheshe's that her proudest

(51:28):
achievement was getting Wild atHeart over to Japan and she's
since had projects such asWayne's World, huge, huge
projects that her and herhusband have helped get over
there. So this this is theperson that he's saying won't
let him have Korea. This is theperson who helped get Jim
Jarmusch in Japan, and you'retrying to say that she's so

(51:50):
little miss corporate, likegonna stick her nose and
everything and ruin your shit.
It's definitely not that SarahMichelle Gellar decided to leave
Buffy that's not why it ended.
Nope, definitely not. Um, yeah.
Anyway. So I just got veryfrustrated. I just felt like the

(52:11):
deeper into this hole I went, the more I could see his
fingerprints on everythingdeciding what the narrative was.
And it was just making meincredibly frustrated and
uncomfortable that he waspainting people in a certain way
to give his version of a story aspecific sheen that it really
wasn't. So anyway. Yeah. fucka.
Joss? It's Joe. Joe. Derek. Ithink I think that might be the

(52:39):
last time I tried to do a JossWhedon thing for this show.
Because like, I thought I wouldbe able to like, just have fun
with it. And I just got reallymad. There. Yeah. So what did
you guys find? Well, how aboutI'll go next. So we have we'll
bookend it with things thatpeople have known and I'll talk
about ones that I'm pretty surenobody knew how to TVs. Not us.
Yeah, that's what do you got? Igot a huge Indian film Baahubali

(53:05):
the beginning. Do you they willlet us tonight. 2015 I know

(54:22):
nothing. I know nothing of thiseither. I

(55:20):
was like What did you like? Youreally went hard on this one.
Did you see this series beforeyou jumped into this film? No,
but I've been wanting to watchthis movie for a long time. It's
been a it's got a cartoons thisokay. There's the one wow the
rotten tomatoes has this at 89critics 86 crowd All right.

(55:41):
budgeted eight out of this 118million $26,148 estimated we get
very precise estimationsworldwide box office of little
over 24 million director by SSRajamouli who also directed the

(56:02):
conclusion which was shot at thesame time kind of like Back to
the Future two and three wereshot at same time and Lord of
the Rings and all that. And healso wrote are directed student
one and he got and our our Wow.
I like our had written by me howthe hundra posad story by and he

(56:24):
wrote the screenplay and lookslike they're a team. They've
done most of their stufftogether. plus four more credits
were given for writers but theywere just translators. But they
got writing credits for the filmthat translated to four
different language stars preposs. Just one name, Prince
Madonna thing going on here. Whohas been in saho rebel Mr.

(56:49):
Perfect, and he plays threecharacters in the film. And then
Rana daggubati was in Welcome toNew York, dum maaro, dum, and
baby. Many of these people havemassive credits, but it's just
like they're all can be names orgot Rama Rama Krishnan, who had

(57:11):
203 credits by example. She's aqueen, Republic, bomb, bat car,
hero, and a ton more people it'sa jack ganttic cast is a huge,
huge movie opens with aninterest interesting disclaimer
that all animals hurt in themovie are computer generated.
Wow, I looked a little deeperinto that. And apparently in

(57:34):
India, if you have a computergenerated injured animal you
have to put CG in light lettersin the corner of the screen. Oh,
and what happens? Yeah, so everytime an animal got hurt in the
movie, like they throw a snakeat one point or an elephant in
battle. that pops up. Wow. Okay.

(57:54):
And right from the beginning ofthinking everything in this
movie is going to be freakingepic. The opening scene of a
mother trying to protect herbaby is shot in front of the
epically large waterfall. I mean1000s and 1000s of feet high.
And that mom really kicked someass as she trudges through the
waters underwater holding thebaby above her head. That cake,

(58:19):
and of course, gets rescued, thebaby does and he starts to grow.
And his his important thing todo at this point is he needs to
climb that waterfall. So hekeeps trying to climb the
waterfall and failing andfalling in horribly dangerous
looking ways, but he's justfine. And as he grows, he
continues to do that and ofcourse grows into this big

(58:41):
powerful, strong man. And hismother is very worried about
him. He's trying to use theserituals. I don't there's a lot
of ritual stuff here and a lotof legend stuff that I don't
know, because I don't knowIndian lore well enough. But
she's doing something with awater that needs to be covered
like 100 times or something. Soher son in this big amazing

(59:06):
thing goes up to this giant rockand starts knocking it loose and
everybody around Okay, like ohmy liquid, he's doing kind of
reaction say okay, this meanssomething. Then he picks this
giant rock up and moves it underthe waterfall and goes back to
the religious guy goes, is thatgonna be enough water? Okay,

(59:27):
that leads to it's sort of anExcalibur thing. It almost feels
like like he's broken somethingthat should not be broken. And
then he does a little dance. Oh,not at that point. But oh yes,
there is definitely music inthis. And he after that, somehow
related he finds this mask andif you remember the movie The

(59:47):
mask with Jim Carrey. It looks alot like that kind of woodgrain
looking mask. Okay. And at thatsame time, this weird mysterious
woman appears like Well, I'mgoing to climb the waterfall to
get to her Okay, so this time heclimbs a waterfall and this is
just giant, huge rocks. He'sclimbing up and huge jumps

(01:00:07):
across the water and it's just,it's fun. It's rediculous but
it's awesome. There's obviouslysome kind of magic going on in
this world. I'm not entirelycertain what it is swords move
in strange ways, kind of likecertain martial arts movies just
look ridiculous, but they'recool. It's got a lot of that.

(01:00:28):
And two guys meet in an epicbattle of friendship that ends
in friendship after they havepipe of Swords for a while, you
know, guys that's got it doeshave a bit of horrible sexism
happens at one point where thehe gets up, he gets to the top
of the, of the waterfall, and hesees this female warrior and a

(01:00:51):
bunch of warriors and snow. Soquite a climb. And the she's
really awesome, really powerful, great warrior looks like she's
like the Best Warrior in hertribe. It's very weird how he
kind of courts her by likedrawing on her hand, when her
hands rescue in a lake. He getsunder the water and draws on her

(01:01:12):
hand. Like, I don't know what'sgoing on here. Something very
sexy, but then they get togetherin the scene, which is fun as
far as just this musicalcourtship thing where they're
singing and of course, it'sIndia so they never actually
kiss although there's some heavyimplications of other things
going on. But has a very Whydon't you smile more vibe where

(01:01:37):
he takes down her hair and heputs like he gets berries and
puts lipstick on her and allthis stuff. Hi, all right. Got a
pretty you're up. That's exactlywhat he does. changes her
clothes and everything. It'slike, okay, is this is this
actress just like gorgeous?
Yeah, it's sort of the, theshe's all that kind of thing. I

(01:01:58):
always love that. Woman inglasses. Oh, she's weird
looking. glasses off. Take outponytail, instantly beautiful. I
never knew all this time.

(01:02:18):
So they do all of that. And hestarts to kind of fight for her.
He rescues her at one point andthen pledges to take over her
battle. When she does, she'slike, disappears from the very
weird. But the the tribe that hefinds that she's in has their
princess has been captured bythis main king in a city and

(01:02:41):
they've been trying to rescueher and they think they've found
a way. So that's the battle he'sgoing to intercede in. And he is
supernaturally strong, thoughhe's definitely like a super
warrior going on here a littlebit. And then we get introduced
to the city that he's going toand it is huge. And apparently a

(01:03:02):
lot of the stuff was was builtwas using the average sets in
India are 24 feet high. Theybuilt 46 foot high sets to
encompass what they wanted toshoot. So it's pretty
impressive. And things getting alittle closer and he ends up
going home for a little bit theyfind a different route to get

(01:03:23):
home. And turns out he'd beengone for 15 days. Damn, you
accomplished a lot in 15 days.
They just do cool, weird epicstuff like he's trying to erase
with cart one time, like agladiator looking cart. And they
want to stop them and send justlowering a gate. They have these
huge bales of hay they drop infront than they like to have on
fire and they fall andeverything goes on fire. So when

(01:03:43):
he hits it, it's like flameslanders. Like, you guys had fun
making mistakes. So they Itfeels like they're doing the
Battle of Five Armies at onepoint, but you realize now
there's still about an hourleft. So this is just the start
so that they come together andform larger and larger, larger
battles. There's some timejumping going on as well. I

(01:04:05):
don't know if you've watched alot of India films, but
structure is not always theirstrong point. It's more
spectacle, right? And thisspectacle well
so it's a nice got a great songthing. This is totally
pointless. No needed side trips, like what's going on here. Now

(01:04:28):
this the reason I wanted to seethis is from this, this ending
here these last 15 or 20 minutesor so where he might have seen
these on YouTube where there's ascene where they've set up the
they're throwing like cannonballs, sort of but they've put
giant fabric on top of them soit flies and this is big giant

(01:04:50):
flag that flies and drops oneverybody and then they shoot
flaming arrows on and the wholething blows up. It's full of
shit like that. Just crazy.
Crazy.

(01:10:00):
worldwide total of $91 millionmade worldwide, making it the
highest grossing film in India.
And the third highest grossingIndian film worldwide. Took 380
days to shoot. That is a longshot. Wow. That commitment. Yep.
So obviously paid off. Yeah, yeah. Worked out. Really? Well

(01:10:20):
bring my bring up a briefcomment on after I watched the
sequel mentioned that episodesometime.
Absolutely. I mean, Bollywoodfilms, or at least I mean, are
all films in India considered tobe Bollywood?
There's also I think, I couldn'tremember for sure. So I didn't
say I think it's Hollywood orsomething like that, which is

(01:10:41):
southernprovinces, and they all have
their own little film style andtheir own film companies.
It's amazing. The few like verystandard, I want to say
Bollywood films I've seen I didnot expect the level of
spectacle that like waspresented like the action scenes
that are frickin insane and likeso over the top and then singing

(01:11:04):
and dancing and like, everythingis just so big. They are they're
fun to watch.
Well, and we think that, youknow, we have attractive women
over here. The women in thosemovies are so stunningly
gorgeous. What what are we doingwrong over here? Some of them
male leads or not, though? worksboth ways. Yeah. Well, okay. So

(01:11:30):
this one's This is when I did alot of research on
I'm so excited. I like I kind ofvaguely knew this thing existed,
but I can't wait to hearwell, first I was gonna do from
1980 series called BeyondWestworld, which took Oh, it was
five episodes. That took placeright after the first Westworld
and it completely ignored futureworld Whoa, but as you watch the

(01:11:54):
series are kind of taking onsome of the ideas from future
worlds. So one of the scientistsin that Westworld thing has
taken the robotics and he is nowmaking copies of like famous
people and trying to take overthe world. And I had two
episodes and I was like, This isshit. I cannot talk about this.

(01:12:17):
So instead, I did I decided todo blade, the series.
There is a world beyond the onewe know where the powers of

(01:12:38):
darkness for your nothing.
Blade.
We represent the ruling body ofthe vampire nation. They're
offering you a truth. They wantto meet with you. You're sure

(01:12:58):
about this that take us indeeper than we've ever been.
Now those he has sworn to killneed his help to provide a new
breed of terror. They're nolonger top of the food chain.
Our forces are ready to find butwe need a leader. When we get
this right. You want me to hugthem? For you? To

(01:13:32):
keep your friends close, keepyour enemies close. Know You are

(01:14:03):
really nice. But before I get tobelieve the series, let me tell
you a little bit about the blademovies. Excellent. So in 1998
blade came out with a budget of45 million and a box office of
$131 million. Oh Rotten Tomatoespredicts of 55% and 78% of for

(01:14:28):
the audience and the audiencereally liked this movie. And I
don't think many of themunderstood that it was a Marvel
Comics character, which isprobably why they liked it. It
was directed by StevenNorrington, who did the League
of Extraordinary Gentlemen, butit was written by David S.
Goyer, who did all three ofthese blade movies He also wrote

(01:14:49):
Batman Begins Man of SteelBatman vs. Superman, and it
starred Wesley Snipes, Stephendorff, Kris Kristofferson, and
Udo Kier. Were introduced to theblade world, which is this kind
of underworld type of thing withvampires and bickering houses

(01:15:09):
between the vampires. They'realmost like a mob set up. And
the backstory is, I mean, that'sthe background of the series.
And the story is that blade ishalf mortal, half vampire, he
can walk in the sun, he's gotall of the best qualities of the
vampire, like the strength andall that stuff, but he's got
none of their weaknesses. And heneeds blood. So I guess that

(01:15:32):
would be considered a weaknessand he goes out of his way to
make sure that he's not gettinghuman blood. So that's, that's
blade that that movie isbasically him trying to avenge
the death of his mother. Soblade two comes out in 2002
Rotten Tomatoes of 57% and theaudience has it as 68% Directed
by Guillermo del Toro. I'vedefinitely seen this one and

(01:15:56):
written by David S. Goyer, thisone stars Wesley Snipes, Kris
Kristofferson, and Ron Perlmanbecause Guillermo del Toro is
wrong. And in that one, there isthis rare mutation that has
happened in the vampirecommunity and it has created
these things called Reapers. Andthey are they are feeding on
other vampires. And they arecreepy looking very cool. So the

(01:16:21):
The house has all basically puttogether kind of a dirty dozen
of vampire killers and theyasked blade to lead them and the
Dirty Dozen is called the bloodpack. And I love that movie. I
guess. That is a good movie.
It's my favorite of the blademovies. Then in 2004, we get
blade Trinity, rotten tomatoesand 25% for the for the critics

(01:16:46):
and 59% for the audience wowseems high. That one was written
and directed by David Goyerstarring Wesley Snipes Parker
Posey Jessica Biel, RyanReynolds, Dominic Purcell as
Dracula, the worst Dracula everput to sell. And blade is
fighting this vampire nationthat is, you know, running

(01:17:14):
everything now corporations andall that too. He ends up joining
forces with a group of vampirehunters who call themselves that
night stalkers. And the vampireshave awakened Dracula. For some
reason, they're acting like hewas the first vampire. This
makes no sense to me. I alwaysjust thought he was a vampire.

(01:17:34):
But he is the king of vampires, and they have intentions of
using his primitive blood tobecome de Walkers' somehow. And
then on the other side is bladeand his team and they are
putting together a virus thatcould wipe out the vampire race
once and for all. This is avery, very bad movie. Yeah, and

(01:17:54):
I have a little story just fromthat one. According to Patton
Oswald. The production was sotroubled due to studio
interference, and that WesleySnipes appeared to have had some
sort of mental breakdown. Herefused to speak to David S.
Goyer, and often would not comeout of his trailer, he would
only respond to the name blade.

(01:18:17):
And if he communicated withanyone, it would be via post it
notes. Oh, she's amazing. RyanReynolds corroborated this while
promoting the film saying thatSnipes would ignore the entire
cast, but he wants acknowledgedReynolds by saying, keep your
mouth shut. You'll live longer.
By Oh, yeah, that'sthe one where like, Ryan

(01:18:37):
Reynolds had to say every lineas a joke.
Yes. Yeah. Well, because thatwas the only thing that kept the
movie going because snakerefused to show up. So they just
had Ryan Reynolds and JessicaBiel and everything and so they
just filmed a ton of extrastuff. And he had to make it up
on the spot. So anyhow, thatbrings us to blade the series.

(01:19:01):
Now, Eric, I think you Oh, yeah.
And Vanessa, you have notwatched it. This is available to
watch for free on tubi. Okay, well, it has run tomatoes of 50%
which I think is low. Because Ireally love this series. Created
by David Esquire, and the firstepisode the pilot episode is a
two hour movie that was writtenby him. Oh shit, and it takes

(01:19:23):
place immediately after thethird movie. So it it's it tiny?
Yeah. Wow. And in this no WesleySnipes. In this it stars Kirk
sticky fingers. Jonas, therapper sticky fingers. Oh. And
you know that it takes placeafter Trinity because they

(01:19:47):
actually reference some of thestuff that happened in that
movie, mostly the biologicalweapon that was created the day
star that was supposed to killnow at the end of that third
movie, they released that andsupposedly killing all the
vampires. But they find out thatit wasn't as effective as they
had hoped. And there was stillvery many of the vampire houses
12 existing houses. And in thisone blade is they do this right

(01:20:12):
blade is the main character. Buthe has got a couple of human
people that actually act as theaudience and so he can explain
things to them. And he doesn'tchange at all. So he works best
as kind of this background forceof nature while the other people
are having to deal with stuff.

(01:20:34):
And this girl, Krista, shereturns from military service
and learns that her twin brotherhas died under mysterious
circumstances. And when shestarts digging into it, she
finds out that he was a familiarfor the vampires which were you
know, kind of like, like Renfields, indentured servants,
basically. So that leads her torun into blade, as well as

(01:21:00):
Marcus van skiver, who is kindof this head of the vampire
nation. And the guy who killed abrother. And I love this Marcus
is a powerful vampire and highranking member of the House of
Python. And Python is a magicalcreature from the Marvel
Universe. So the fact that theydropped this in there, I'm

(01:21:21):
positive, we're gonna seek athonand this new Doctor Strange
movie that's coming out. So lovethat they pulled this out. And
he, he sees Krista and he'slike, I gotta, I gotta have this
chick, but I'm not gonna turnher into a vampire the way that
I would normally turn peopleinto vampire human jacks or with
his blood. Oh, because he wantsto make her as Queen. So he's

(01:21:43):
making her like a more powerfulvampire. But she is very much
against this. And she goes toblade, you know, asking him to
kill her and he's like, I got abetter idea. And he starts
giving her the serum that heuses to keep him off of the
blood and, and then uses her askind of a double agent. She goes

(01:22:04):
into the vampire community andshe's reporting back to him. So
the whole series then startsturning into like, like wiseguy,
like undercover. mafia only it'sthe vampire mafia. And it's,
it's really a cool little show.
Yeah, it takes a couple ofepisodes to get into being good
bye. Episode Four or fivethough, you're totally hooked.

(01:22:26):
You totally buy this guy asblade. In the beginning, to his
detriment. He is trying to soundlike Wesley Snipes, and he's got
kind of a thin voice so hedoesn't make it work. And then
he kind of gives that up andstarts sounding like himself,
and he looks great. The fightsequences are really good. He's
no Wesley Snipes, but let's faceit. Wesley Snipes was no Wesley

(01:22:47):
Snipes, by the time of bladeTrinity is just such a shit
movie and shit character. Soyeah, there's I think 12
episodes total on there. Iwatched the first five. And I
was like how fuck I forgot howmuch I liked the series and how
bummed I was that it only hadthe one season. A few things
here on September 28 of 2006 JoeWagner who played Krista, she

(01:23:13):
announced that there would be nosecond season of the show. And
the very next day spikeannounced in a press release
that the show would not bepicked up as a response to a
letter in wizard magazine.
Remember wizard series WriterProducer Jeff John's? Really?
Yes. stated that the networkdidn't want to cancel it I think

(01:23:34):
I just think Spike TV is sillyyoung network and the price it
was going to make they justweren't able to do it. And they
weren't able to do it there Ican see that spike. I don't even
know if spike exists anymore. Ithink it does but I think
they've changed their namethere's something else I mean,
yeah, they might be owned bysomebody now I know for a while
they were the CSI station wasreally old, kind of reduce

(01:23:56):
themselves to being a one TVshow waters. Yes. Showtime was
originally going to produce aseries with Wesley Snipes
reprising his famous role asblade. The series was going to
be a loose adaptation of theblade comic book series.
Catherine Isabel was going to beirregular in the series and the
character of Karen Jensen fromthe first film was going to

(01:24:18):
return Mark singer was going tobe a main character in the
series Bible john from the comicthat after Snipes turned down
the role due to his lawsuit withnew line Showtime decided to not
develop the series. Like I said, available for free on to be well
worth your time. If you haven'tseen it. It's It's really good.

(01:24:39):
And it unfortunately ends on amassive cliffhanger. Oh god, no
second season.
It's a boundary pusher for thetime, as far as its content is
pretty.
Not quite are rated but they gotaway with a lot of gore that
they probably couldn't have on anetwork station. There was a lot
of swearing. Yeah. So I thoughtWow, sounds awesome. Yeah. So

(01:25:04):
pass on Westworld tomorrow orwhatever. After Westworld
you know cuz like I love thatlittle you know where there's a
show that was attempted butfailed and then has since been
successful. Yeah, you knowthat's kind of a neat easter
egg,but sort of successful. Oh, is
it doing badly now? Well, theWestworld the first season of

(01:25:29):
Westworld and an episode or twoof episode of season two were
freaking amazing. Yeah, the restis kind of a weird mess. Oh, for
sure. I've stopped watching it.
Yeah. I see other people. Itcould be I don't know. Well,
cool. Nice. Nice topic, Vanessa.
Yeah, Ithink it's, um, I think it has a

(01:25:49):
lot of areas to explore if weever decide to go back down this
rabbit hole. Right? That makesit my choice for the next one.
What do you guys think aboutthis workplace horror. So it's
got to be a movie where somebodyis doing their job. And then
horror happens, like adocumentary. thinking something

(01:26:11):
along the lines of say assaulton precinct 13, or that last
shift movie that you can nevername somebody at work. And then
Porter breaks out. Nice.
I like it. I like a lot. I thinkthat there's a couple movies
I've really been putting off butwanting to see and I think this

(01:26:35):
might give me an opportunity tocheck something out.
Perfect. Okay, that's what we'redoing then. As usual, many
thanks to everybody likingsharing the posts, you know, and
getting in on the value forvalue model. So, so thrilled
with all of that stuff. Thankyou. Thank you. Thank you. Love
everybody. We'll be back in aweek and talk in workplace or do
