Unknown (00:03):
Oh, sorry, did I break your concentration? Somewhere
between science andsuperstition? sites to show you

(00:28):
Strange Aeons. Welcome StrangeAeons radio. That's Eric over
there. Hey, look, that's been sover there. Hello. I'm Kelly. I
have more news on the neighborsaga. Oh my god, I need to know.
Nice. Vanessa was, uh, youtelling me that there might be a
power struggle going on that hadnothing to do with me was that

(00:50):
you put that in mind. Okay. Soyou guys know that come up here.
And sometimes there's likelaundry detergent outside of
their door and stuff like that.
And they just left it out therefor a couple of weeks. So
finally, I was gonna throw itaway. And then I saw Oh, there's
still stuff in here. So I put itdirectly in front of their door.

(01:12):
Oh, sure. And there, it sat foranother week and a half, they
would open their door, walk overit, and leave it there. And I
was like, okay, so you know, that was a passive aggressive
thing of me to do. But thisseemed like it was also super
passive aggressive, like, Fuckyou, Kelly. You don't get to

(01:33):
tell somebody else doing laundryhere. And it wasn't them at all?
Well, no, because then they didlaundry, and left this stuff
right there in front of theirdoor. And I was like, What is
going on here? And then Ithought it was even asked, but
somebody put it in my head.
They're like, there may be apower struggle going on that has

(01:53):
nothing to do with you, likebetween them. Because it's, you
know, a guy and a girl. And Iwas like, Oh, I didn't even
think of that. But regardless ofthat, you have come up and seen
like stuff on that little shelfout there of garbage. VCRs I had
to clean up a pick up a usedmask that was there. Like, what

(02:18):
the fuck, man. So I come out ofthe house yesterday, got on my
door here and I see sitting onthat bench thing. A empty carton
of milk. So I grab it. And asI'm heading down, I get down to
the bottom of the stairs. I openthe door and he's coming in. So

(02:39):
I just handed him the book. AndI said, Hey, man, what's going
on here? Why am I cleaning upyour garbage? And he was he was
very apologetic and and heseemed kind of stressed and
everything and he said I'msorry, man. When the cops came
last night, they basically toldme to just leave that there. And

(03:01):
I didn't want to get into it.
But he said they didn't theydidn't do anything. And he said,
okay, you know, that's fine.
Except I don't care a be thelaundry detergent has been
sitting there for two weeks. SoI'm not sure what the excuses
for that. He said, Well, I'llget it. I'll get a tidy up. You
know, they took they took mygirlfriend away last night and

(03:23):
all this stuff. And soapparently she was beating on
him, I guess and she got shutup. Oh my god. That's just the
worst part. I mean, I had beendrinking a lot that night. But I
heard none of this as I was justout apparently.

(03:44):
How did you not know there werecops arresting somebody in your
building. The onlythe only thing I touched in your
defense is there is a longdistance you've got such a
narrow long place that fromtheir place to your bedroom.
Like if you'd gone to bed. I bigchunk a
space. That's true. But as weknow sound travels strangely I
can hear him drilling. Noproblem. I thought I'd her a

(04:08):
fight but I didn't choose.
Anyway, when you guys came intoday, the car out there was
running and he was in it. And hegoes out and sits in his car a
lot. But he's been there sincethis morning. And I might have
to go and tap on the window andmake sure he's alive. You might
have to edit all this out if itturns out he's dead.

(04:34):
Oh, geez. It's hard. Like Imean, you forget that people
have their own huge innerstruggles going on. And God
knows what that that is going onin that apartment. That's true.
Is he drilling in the middle ofthe night because somebody is
telling him like, you know, he'sworthless and if he doesn't
finish this thing, you know, oris it that he's like, really on

(04:57):
drugs are we who knows what'sgoing on? It's just it's
Heartbreaker weird.
Yeah, but you know what? Youknow who's going through a lot
of shit and their neighborsdon't have to deal with this guy
right here. Right here. That'sexactly right. Yeah, cuz that's
how I was raised.
Yep. No, same. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. Like I don't think

(05:17):
excuses are good. It's justinterest. I mean, it's nice to
think about that. Everyone's gotshit. I don't think your shit
should ever overlap on somebodyelse's plate.
There you go. Michael bronzerthat was for you. Because he had
reached out and told me aboutsome weird neighbors. He had
armed conflict. So I said, Oh,stay tuned. More,

(05:43):
can you find out? Is there a wayto find out like from like a
police info board? or? Yeah.
I'm sure there's some kind ofpolice board that was you know,
they won't say names oranything. But it'll say you
know, such and such arrested fordomestic abuse or whatever. So,

(06:03):
yeah, and you know, I'm planningon moving and it's just like, I
didn't want to make a make a bigthing just before I moved.
Because I felt like, well, whatis that gonna do? That's just
gonna stress everybody out. But,but he opened the door and I was
holding his and it just kind ofjust kind of all came out.

(06:24):
I'm glad that you talked to him, though. Because I think that's
the you could go years thinking, you know, what's going on with
somebody, right? And then havingthat even a little bit cleared
up is really, it's nice,I guess. I mean, I look at it
all as story fodder. So I sit atthe bar, and I'm like, I want to
hear about my fucking neighborstoday.

(06:46):
Well, weird shit. live in thedorms. One time I woke up to the
sound of a unpleasant story ofsomebody screaming as they fell
past my window. I was on theninth floor. Oh my god. And so
me and my roommate Lee at thetime we got up and we're like,
looking out side. And you couldhear her rather unpleasant

(07:08):
noise. But she lived. Shemanaged to land a couple inches
from a sprinkler and a coupleinches from the cement sidewalk.
Oh, my God. And live she didn't.
The End story wasn't that wasthat she just fell. Okay, she's
sitting in her window and justfell. She's
fell out of her window. Whatfloor? Was she on? At least

(07:32):
there was 12 total.
And so you know, you never knowwhat your neighbors are up to
until they go right past yourwindow so
well, so let's not discount thefact that these neighbors I'm
talking about are living in theapartment where the guy died.
No, that's true. So guy died.
Yeah. Bad Mojo. Yeah. So theremight be something going on in

(07:53):
the possession. Yeah. Hey, storyfodder. Like you go, yeah, the
guy died in there. And I was theone who made the call because
the place was starting to smell.
And I was like, I don't knowwhat's going on here. But
probably somebody should checkon this guy. He's there for a
while. Yes, he was he hadliquefy. You got to liquefied

(08:18):
naper degree degrees outside.
You know what this place is likewhen it's 90 outside? 140 in
here and so yes. In the in thehot summer sun. I always hear
about these stories, but neverlike directly. Yeah. Wow. That's
a lot to take in. Yeah, sohappy. Happy Sunday. Happy

(08:39):
Thursday. Happy Wednesday.
Wouldn't be funny if you do haveto edit this entire story. Go
down there and knock on thewindow and Lisa to take care of
it. No.
No, my God. I would like tothink that, you know, not
sadness, just naturally wouldhave taken him. It's not that he

(09:02):
did anything about it. You know?
Yeah. Well, he just got realsad. Well, that makes him a
broken heart. Yeah, such a happybetter that way. It's more of a
fairy tale version.
Vanessa, I very rarely readcurrent comic books. But I am

(09:24):
reading the last Ronen are you?
Oh, yes. Ihave not been reading although
we know about it because I thinkthere was a Kickstarter for
this. Oh, really?
I don't think so. It's comingout month by month right now.
Okay, and it's on issue. Two orthree isn't the canneries thing?
No, no, this is Teenage MutantNinja Turtles in the future.

(09:46):
Only one of them left. Oh, andhe is out to avenge the death of
his brother's wife super. It'sreally good. How are the two of
us reading it?
I literally went to a comic bookstore yesterday and they were
like, totally like shut downCOVID style and they were
opening one day a week for threehours. And they just had bundles

(10:10):
and about two bundles of otherNinja Turtles comics I hadn't
come across.
But not is that a get on thisbecause the coolest part of
this, Eastman and Laird doing ittogether? No. Got the story. And
Eric, you know, there's like twopages in there that are clearly
just his art, where it's aflashback. Oh, my God was like,
oh, how cool. Then, it's justnice to know that Laird is

(10:33):
involved again.
Yeah, but I mean, like, it'salways sad when you watch the
documentaries. And it's like, and then they're broke up. Yeah.
What is it? Eastman, who isreally involved in the series?
The Nickelodeon series?
Yeah, yeah. Heavy Metal. He dida lot. Yeah, a lot of stuff. So
what issue are they on? How fardo I have to get
totally to issues right? Oh,thank God. They're big, too. So

(10:57):
it's just a very cool story. Allright.
I'm going to comic shop. Holycannoli. We got the comic shop.
Right. Exactly. I'm gonna goright
there. I'm not even kidding. Icannot get behind on this stuff.
Because I'll never find it.
That's what happened with like,Wonder Woman dead earth or
whatever. Right. I had to likespecially hunt down issue. I
think the re You're such abitch.

(11:19):
That was a cool series. It wasgood. Yeah. I noticed you put
your computer away. But you'renext. Yeah. But have you been
watching?
That's a great question.
breaking out the hand computerinstead? Yeah, the hand computer
will let me know. Um, so Ichecked out a couple of these
sort of action films that havebeen popping up on different on
different streaming services. SoI saw Tom Clancy's without

(11:43):
remorse. Oh,is that good? Yeah. So the
Amazon Amazon series does lookgood. It's setting something up
clearly. Does that reallyfilming setting something up?
The series they did with? What'shis name from the office? Right.
So that was really good. Ienjoyed that show. Okay, so

(12:07):
that's cool. This is just amovie or is it a
it's a movie? Yeah, it's amovie. It sets up a character
who was in the military andinvolved in something that went
tits up as it were. All of asudden Russians were involved
and turns out he was being liedto about all kinds of things and
those in the Middle East andanyway, complete its mission

(12:27):
goes home. And then of course, the Russians seemingly are
taking revenge. And everybody inhis unit is being killed off.
But they don't get him. They gethis eight month pregnant wife.
Your immediate dead baby. Yeah,so then you get to watch him out
for out for revenge and justincredible acting by. I'm

(12:52):
forgetting his name. Michael B.
Jordan.
I was just gonna say he was inBlack Panther. Right?
That guy in Black Panther. Ilove Michael B. Jordan. He's
amazing. And he's gorgeous, gorgeous, man. And yeah, it was
fun. I'm really looking forwardto seeing where they go with
this. But it definitely feltlike a it's a tom clancy joint.
I mean, it's total. Anytimeyou've seen that Tom Clancy made

(13:14):
into movie it's Yeah, that cool.
That's when that on the list?
Yeah.
Oh, the one I watched wasdecidedly different than that.
The arrow streaming servicecontinues to deliver from called
Chioma from 1976. The probablythe biggest claim to fame to it
is have Franco Nero in it. Whois in Django. Here's the

(13:37):
original Django. Holy shit. Thismovie is funny. Oh my god, it is
such a that could be ClintEastwood playing that role kind
of movie and has really he playsa character who's the as the 70s
movie call him half breed. Sohe's a very, very, very blue

(14:00):
eyed, half native white guy, soit's not the greatest casting.
But you can tell because he haslong hair. So that must be
clear. But he Holy shit. I don'tknow if you've seen Franco Nero
movies. I know I've seen one.
But I can't remember he is onscreen presence of power. Yeah,

(14:20):
really good. And they've gotgreat shootouts and family drama
and problems with the becausehe's an adopted kid. And the dad
seems to like the adopted kid orthe other three sons. So they've
got problems. And him and hisdad are like the best shots in
the area. And it's just fun andnails it and I liked it enough
that I'd never seen Djangosummit. And that's also on our

(14:44):
right now says, Let's watchDjango. I like Chioma a lot
more. I've never even heard ofit. Yeah, Django is about three
or four really, really goodseats. And the rest of the movie
is sorta nothing. It's just sortof there. But those two or three

(15:05):
scenes are really really good.
But and me Franco Nero, sort oflike you watch a bad Clint
Eastwood Western, it's stillpretty good. Sure. And I think
he's got a little bit of that, too. So those are really cool.
Well, you guys know how much Ilove my shark movies. Oh, yeah.

(15:28):
And there's a brand new sharkmovie, they had to rent. And
imagine my surprise when I waspretty dang good. I personally
shocked it's called Great White.
And it's an Australian movie.
And it's about these. This, thisyoung couple who rent out their
plane to take people to this, this island out in the middle of

(15:50):
nowhere. And, of course, thenthere's this horrible accident,
while they're investigating thisboat that's out there half sunk,
and they realize there's theshark thing going on. And they
have to, they have to get goingnow, like, like all of these
movies. It's, it's a littlestraining of credibility,
because these sharks appear tohave an agenda. They're like,

(16:15):
really pissed at theseparticular people, sir, and, and
they are just, they will kill tokill, you know, not to eat. So
as soon as they're killingsomeone, they'll just move on to
the next person. So that kindof, you know, serial killer
sharks stuff that doesn't reallywork in nature that way, but I

(16:35):
still loved every minute of it.
The Sharks look pretty good. Theacting was really good. And
yeah, fun. Great. Wait.
Oh my gosh, that's great. Haveyou you haven't played that
shark video game yet have you?
know, pretty fun, really dumb, but it is really a really dumb
game now. It's, I can't rememberwhat it's called. And I'm sure a

(16:57):
lot of people are gonna yellingat the radio right now. But um,
yeah, it's, you kind of haveagenda, but you're a shark.
You're just swimming aroundeating fish and like stuff. But
then you kind of find out thatyour mom died through certain
ways. And there's like, realityTV show that's trying to hunt
you down. Like you can like eatthem and like land on their boat

(17:18):
and like eat the people and thenswim back and then but that'll
make more reality TV show peoplecome up to try to hunt you and
it's got a lot of dum dum stuffin there, but it's it's
enjoyable.
Sounds like my kind of thing.
Yeah, no kidding. I think you'dhave a great time. Well, my mom
had a birthday. Oh, nice. Yes.

(17:40):
It'svery exciting. And so we were
trying to figure out what to dobecause it's still COVID and
she's still an older humanbeings. With her she is
vaccinated. But um, so a moviehad premiered on something HBO,
probably I think it was calledthose who wish me dead. Yeah,
that's HBO. Yeah. StarringAngelina Jolie. Jon bernthal. We

(18:02):
had Aiden Gillen from the wire.
Nicholas Hoult. So, you know,Tyler Perry's in it. So there's
like a whole big cast of veryfamous people. And I was like, I
don't know what this is gonnabe. Like, it's basically a bunch

(18:22):
of like forests, like they're onthe move. No words, some forest
people like people, you know, preventing forest fires slash
like, what are they called? Theyfly in while there's a forest
fire and they try to put it out.
And Angelina Jolie has beensequestered to a watch tower for
the summer to watch for theforest fires. And meanwhile,
there's a kid whose dad is beinghunted by people for some

(18:44):
reason. And then they're tryingto hunt the kid too, because
they don't want the kids. Idon't know. It's a very action
II movie. None of these peopleshould be in this movie. It's
very COVID it's like everyonewas bored. And I'm like, why is
why is Nicholas Hoult here aslike a pretty much silent like
bad guy sidekick? Who justrandomly tries to shoot at

(19:07):
people and I was like, this is abit small for Nicholas Hoult.
Selina Jolie's like, I mean, great. She gets to be a badass
action star, but it just feelslike everybody's like, yeah,
that sounds fun. I have nothinggoing on. Sure. I'll be in this
movie. It just feels wildly likeyou would never expect this
particular cast to be playingthis. These specific roles

(19:28):
except for Aiden Gillen who isgreat at playing bad guys. So
please tell me that Tyler. TylerPerry is playing his Medea care.
Don't go smoke jumping.
I don't remember who he is inthis. I have to say I feel like
a jerk but his name is in here.
I just don't remember hischaracter. This sounds like a
pass on this one then. I don'tknow. I mean, it's fun. It's

(19:53):
totally again. It's like it'sjust like the last one is an
action film. It's a wild romp.
You want to watch people run atpeople and people hide from
people while there's like agiant forest fire encroaching?
And that's always joyful. Moreimportantly, how did mom like
this? She had a great time. Oh,baby. That was very good. She
loves action movies, though.
Yeah, yeah.

(20:14):
I wonder not surprised. No, ourperson that helps us with our
taxes and various stuff aroundhere. He used to be a forest
fire. He didn't do the jump, smoke jumping, but he used to be
used to fight forest fires. Whenhe first moved out to Washington
State.
He was telling us some storiesabout like, when he was 717, he
decided to hitchhike across theUS and, and you know, stop

(20:38):
wherever he was, and get a job.
And we were just like, sittingthere with our mouths hanging up
and going God, I wish I had doneanything when I was 17. He's a
good guy. That'sincredible. That's absolutely
incredible. Now I'm going tolook at look at him in a totally
different light.
She's got a lot of those kindsof stories, actually. But um, so

(21:00):
no, I watched a very differentfilm. Happy, fun. Chef. JOHN
fabros. Movie, Chef. Oh. Whichis from a while ago, yeah, a few
years ago. Because apparently,he really got into cooking. He
got into cooking. So I wanted tomake a movie about that. So he

(21:22):
could just probably, you know, learn because he's also the
star. Yeah. So you could learnto do some of the stuff and I
guess he did a lot of the stuffthat's in there. And it is, like
middag to turn to the end isjust good time fun. I kept
waiting for something to gowrong or something some new
problem to happen, but basicallygoes through a whole lot of shit

(21:44):
to the first half of the movie, and then spent the rest of the
movie being happy and finallyfell the city you live in
Mississippi, it was like thatwas a lot of fun. Yeah, I
thought it was cute. Yep. Thatsounds like a great movie right
now. Right? rush out with yourmom. I maybe I will.
Well, how about we take a littlebreak, guys. I'll go and check

(22:06):
on my neighbor. Please. Pleasewait, here we go. And we'll talk
workplace horror. When we askedReebok
to send us Terry Tate, somepeople thought we were crazy.
But I'm a firm believer inparadigm breaking outside the

(22:28):
box thinking.
And since Terry has been withus, our productivity has gone up
46% we're getting more from ouremployees than ever before. You
know, you need a cover sheet oryour TPS reports. But what's

(22:51):
really impressed me is howTerry's become part of the
felcher family. He fits right inhere. To be honest, I wish
Reebok sent us 10 Terry tasteswoman is daytime baby.

(23:23):
We are back and this was my subgenre you guys I wanted to do
workplace horror horror in theworkplace. What am I going to
call this office hoarders? Idon't know what you guys are. So
I don't know if that I don'twant to borrow from my title. I
was going to do the belkoexperiment. And I watched about

(23:45):
40 minutes of it and I was likegod damn, I think I liked this
when I first saw it and it wasjust so fucking mean spirited
that I was not having a goodtime with it. And so I decided
to go with something kind ofsimilar but different. And that
is me himbeing transformed Welcome to the
home of towers and smartconsulting GSE is a firm fueled

(24:21):
by greed, duplicity. I'm gonnaneed some scouts. How are you
doing? firing? I'm not leavingthis building until I plead my
case. Sure.
Good luck with that.

(24:43):
What's the hell is going on?
saying hello to the ID sevenvirus. stress hormone levels
rise causing inhibitions to dropbasic instincts to rise to the
surface. all tracesof the virus should be
eliminated in approximatelyeight hours. What do we suppose
For the next eight hours try toremain calm. Hey, extreme
measures right? I'm offering 150grand for chose ad talking about

(25:17):
murder here. You should beoffering at least 450 Yup. He
wants to do this the hard way. Ijust picked this up. Nice love
this video. It'sa good one from 2017 I could

(26:00):
find no budget or box office. Itis a shutter original. So that
will be why there's no boxoffice. The Rotten Tomatoes. The
critics have this at 84% and theaudience has it at 65% Ouch. I
don't know why that's so weird.
Because this is a good movie.
Yeah. Is to be an audiencefavorite. Yeah. Weird. Directed

(26:21):
by Joe Lynch, who directed wrongturn two nights of badass them
and a couple of episodes ofcreep show and written by
Matthias Caruso, who's done justa bunch of short films and one
feature called brouhaha. Itstars Steven yen. Who is Glenn
on the walking dead and thevoice of mark on invincible and

(26:43):
semara weaving from thebabysitter ready or not guns
akimbo bill and Ted face themusic and a bunch of other
stuff. She is become kind ofgenre. Wayne? She's great. And
we lucked out. Yeah. Yeah, absolutely. So this movie opens
with Steven yen, basically, kindof introducing us via voiceover

(27:05):
to what is going on in the worldright there. And there is a
virus, a pandemic a bit calledthe ID seven virus or red eye
virus has been spreadingthroughout the world. And it
infects neural pathways, removing all inhibitions and
integrity. And it kind of causespeople to act out on their

(27:29):
darkest impulses. So it's notlethal. Unless the person who
has acting out on his darkestimpulses wants to kill you. I
guess it would be lethal. Thefirst known case of murder was
committed by a guy who stabbed aco worker and it was not deemed

(27:50):
liable due to the influence ofthe virus. So, Derek, Steven
yen, he works as a lawyer atthis place towers and Smith
consulting. That's the firm thathandled that case. And we start
off with him talking about howhe began this career full of
optimism and everything, butended up backstabbing, cheating,

(28:13):
and finding loophole afterloophole in order to work his
way up the corporate ladder andget a corner office. So right
off the bat, he's, he's anasshole, but he's likable
because he's telling you howmuch he hates, What an asshole
he's become. So one morning goesinto work and finds that his
favorite mug is missing. Andleads also within this furious

(28:36):
client, which is Samira weavin, who needs more time on a loan,
and he's unable to help her kindof willing to help her because
he's still a bit of an assholehere at the beginning. But then,
after discovering that a bungledlegal case for this huge company
has been pinned on him by hissuperior. He goes in and

(28:57):
confronts her and finds his mugdesk. And they both go up to the
top to see the big boss. Shewins him over very easily. And
Derek is then laid off, he'sgiven his notice. And we start
seeing, it's almost like azombie film and that we start

(29:18):
seeing people kind of gettingangry in the background and
stuff like this. You realize asyou're watching, oh, something's
happening. He gets dragged downand he's he's got his box full
of stuff and everything. Heopens the door to leave and
outside is a SWAT team with abunch of guns on the doors and
they're like, you guys are beingquarantined. There's been an

(29:40):
infection. And they dropped thisbig huge net basically over the
building. And the thing aboutthis virus is it generally burns
itself out in like 24 hours, sothey're told to just basically
sit tight, everybody dotcom Lee,it's gonna be fine. immediately
started hitting each other, fighting with each other. And if

(30:04):
he gets grabbed, he goes youknow, he's you can tell the
people are infected because theyhave one red eye. This is an
interesting thing to do, becauseit lets you know when someone's
infected for the movie, but itis so uncomfortable looking that
I just like got it really hatethat everybody's got this one
red eye in this movie, it'sreally disturbing Look, he

(30:25):
decides he's gonna go up andtalk to the top guy. And
he commandeers an elevator andstarts trying to make his way up
there and gets caught veryquickly and thrown into this
room where he's beaten up alittle bit. And he meets then

(30:48):
some are weaving who has alsobeen thrown in there. They both
are infected, and they're bothkind of fighting with each
other. And they do fight witheach other. They have a little
fist fight and all this stuff.
But then he he basicallyconvinces her Hey, we can work
together, get your loan figuredout, we get my job back, and all
it's gonna take is us beatingour way through everybody. And,
and they're both totally finewith us because they're both

(31:12):
infected. And that's basicallythe rest of the movie is him.
Kind of it's I mean, it's asuper obvious metaphor. He is
climbing his way to the top andbackstabbing, literally
backstabbing. And we're doingall of this horrible shit. And
meeting up with all thesepeople. And it's kind of got a
video game feel to it, becausehe has to get to one boss who
has a key card, which will getthem up to the third floor. But

(31:34):
then there's someone on that, that has a key card that can get
them up to the top and so theyhave to like, beat these bosses
Get it? And it's this, thismovie would have been better
called boss level. This one.
Yeah. Yeah, I was thinking thatexact same thing. But there's

(31:56):
all this fun stuff going on. Andthe thing is, is, I mean,
there's some cringy violence inthis, like people getting hit
with hammers in the face and allof this stuff. But it's handled
so much differently than thebelko experiment. Because you're
really rooting for this guy. Youfeel like he's undergoing a, a
character change, and you'restarting to root for him, and

(32:19):
he's being less of an asshole.
He's actually looking out forsomeone else. The chemistry
between him and Samarra weavingis fantastic. I mean, this is
just a really gory, fun movie.
And I saw it when it first camedown. I remember liking it a
lot. And now watching it afterwatching the belko experiment. I
was like, wow, this movie ishead and shoulders above that

(32:41):
film. It's very similar premise,but I don't know there's just
the the joy of filmmaking inthis. And I feel like the writer
who you know, only one otherfilm. He he nailed this so
spectacularly. And how was itthat? Who did the belko

(33:03):
experiment? Oh, why can't Ithink Zack know? His brother's
name is? Yeah. Directorguardians. The James Gunn. Yeah.
James brothers, Zack. And that'swhat I was thinking. How did he
who is a writer I love how didhe miss so spectacularly on the

(33:24):
belko experiment?
It's very confusing. I almostdid belko experiment for that
exact reason, because I wasreally excited and then watch
the trailer and decided not to.
But yeah, like mayhem is, it'sweird. It doesn't. It feels like
How did this happen? Like, wheredid this come from? It is such a
good, charming film. So wellwritten so well paced, so well
acted, it just feels like itcame from the ether in some

(33:46):
magical wizard when you deservethis kind of film.
This was the first movie that Inoticed there was a shutter
exclusive. And I rememberthinking, oh boy, this will be
bad. Oh, and, and it was so goodthat I was like what's going on
here. And so a shutter hadgotten some kind of influx of
cash and had decided we're goingto go to these film markets. And

(34:10):
we're going to become adistribution company as well. So
they would go in and andactually spend some money on
these things. Andthey're, you know, horror fans
who were actually looking for, right, or as opposed to Well,
this will sell because it'shorror, right?
So anyhow, I have just onelittle piece of trivia here and
this really uncomfortable. I'llshow you that there. There's a

(34:33):
scene with two employees havingsex in the background. Oh, by
Oh, I think I and the twoemployees having sex. We're
actually having sex on set. Theyare in a relationship, and they
went for it. Oh, my authentic.
Why not? I read this and now Ikind of want to watch this scene
again. It's likeit's not as sexy as you think it

(34:54):
is. Because I remember knowingbefore and watching and going I
mean, it doesn't They could havebeen faking it. It's like, Well,
yeah, I didn't feel like boythat is an authentic looking
now. So let's say two peoplebump in. Yeah. And then finally,
it was filmed in Belgrade,Serbia in March over 25 days as

(35:14):
all one word. And when you thinkof it, that is pretty amazing
because there's a lot of shitgoing on a lot of affects
continuity alone that's inscene. Yeah. Yeah. Because both
of them have a bunch of bloodrunning down their face all the
time. And I'm like, those justmatches pretty well from shot to
shot. Yeah. And all thephysicality in that movie. Wow,

(35:36):
there is so much. I mean, there's one scene where they
just kind of run into this gang, and they just start swinging.
She's got a nail gun. And he'sgot, he's got a wrench. And then
they just go to town oneverybody. And he just keeps
seeing people get hit in theface with a wrench or a hammer.
And it's like, Fuck, ouch. Oh,my God, and he gets stabbed.

(35:58):
Like, wow, this is a brutalmovie, but for some reason.
Never as meanspirited is no go.
Wow. Just making me very happy.
I didn't watch belkoso for my tech, I actually I was
so excited because I forgot howmuch I wanted to see this movie
until I was looking for filmsand came across the trailer for
this and was like, Oh my God,I've wanted to watch this for

(36:20):
ever. So I went with the 1997movie nightwatch I think the
best attitude to take is thatyou'll have plenty of quiet time
to study.
Assuming the idea that doesn'tbother you some people it
bothers me a longer night. Theytell you sometimes East comes in

(36:43):
but apart from that issues youas a full time student needed
for the night time job. How canyou give away all your nights
without talking to me? Testtesting myself? You don't think

(37:04):
it's weird? I have a pretty hightolerance that sort of thing.
But he just accepteda 17 year old girl was found
dead this evening. was manyweeks and six in the last two
months. I saw her in thehallway.

(37:24):
Watching Martin Bell, a seriesof murders Your dad Your dad
with differences when someonedoes have invaded his life.
interrogated letters are wellbeyond the need to justify what
they do. In the mind of thepolice tell me why you did the
rounds last night. Of course.
Why is it dead girl tells meyou're the one that's been in

(37:48):
the prime suspect. They know whoit is. They have a suspected me.
Boy they got the wrong guy.
Martin is not a murderer. ItThis is what I think there's
someone very dangerous standingright behind you in the dark

(38:08):
breathing down here. Are youstill going to maintain your

(38:30):
innocence? Watch. I like thisone.
I do too. This is the Russianfilm right? No, this is a Ewan
McGregor. Ewan McGregor movie.
Oh, I don't know this onethough.
Yeah, it does not have the spacebetween night and watch. I don't
know if that makes it differentfrom the Russian one or not?

(38:52):
Yeah, no, it's it's interesting.
In that it, oh my god. Anyway, well, just tell us about the
movie. Who wrote it? whodirected it? So this one has a
Rotten Tomato score actuallyreally low 28% critics and 48%
audience. Critics, from what Icould see on Rotten Tomatoes

(39:13):
basically said it wasn't as goodas the original. It is based off
of a Danish film called not toforgotten not to forgotten. And
they were down on it because ofits lack of success. And I was
like, that's a very lazyCritical response.
No, I was not a good moviebecause it didn't make much

(39:35):
money. Wow. Okay. In that day.
The budget for this movie was 10million box office 1.30. Yeah, I
is directed and written by allborn Adele, who had actually

(39:56):
directed and written the 94Danish version. It was Co
written by Steven Soderbergh.
Oh, yeah, she's, um, this firmis kind of crazy. So for
example, we have Ewan McGregor,Lauren Graham, Patricia
Arquette, and a very babylooking Josh Brolin sitting

(40:18):
around hanging out together. Asfor friends, watching the TV ad,
this is the start. And you seeNick naughty show up? Well,
yeah, the cast for This is nuts.
And that it also has LaniChapman broad drif a couple
other smaller names like Alexhuruma Xay, who is in

(40:41):
Kindergarten Cop and thehaunting, but we all kind of
know these other these otherpeople. But it's just weird to
see. I mean, you didn't McGregorwas definitely famous at this
point. But Josh Brolin is justlike the buddy, but he's such a
powerful actor. It's insane. Andthen Lauren Graham, it's like,

(41:01):
she's, she's, she's like theHighlander. She's not looking
any different. Every time. Heheard anything. It is like I've
seen her all the way throughGilmore Girls. I've seen her
like advertisements for morerecent stuff. She looks the same
in every single she looks. Notsuper young. Not super old.
Definitely gorgeous, good jeans.
Absolutely. The plot is a lawstudent takes a job as a night

(41:24):
watchman to pay some bills andgive him some time to study.
He's got a really pushy, distracting BFF which is Josh
Brolin. And, of course, thingsgo kind of wrong, as you would
hope on a horror film. Um, firstday on the job, Lonnie Chapman
shows him around. He's aretiring old nightwatchman, he

(41:46):
won't really say why he'sretiring. He just keeps looking
at him and saying, well, theytold you why I was retiring,
didn't they, and then just keepsgoing. And there, he's showing
him around the building thathe's going to be keeping an eye
on. And the The main thing is,it's a mortuary. It's got a area
where they keep all the deadbodies. There's also a room of

(42:08):
formaldehyde that you don't wantto look into, apparently. And
it's kind of a lot of like kindof rooms filled with horrors.
And his job is every night at acertain time, he's going to have
to walk through each of theserooms, check them basically walk
to the end and back and lock itup. Make sure it's all safe,
safe and tight. But it's reallynot that hard of a job because

(42:30):
the rest of the time he can justsit there and study except for
this place is hella creepy. Now,it really sets things up
immediately that way, whenLonnie Chapman is showing him
around, it feels like you'rewatching a David Lynch film,
like everything feels verystraightforward what he's saying
very important, but also makesno sense. Like he keeps saying

(42:52):
things like you're going to needa radio and he says it over and
over again. He's like, you got aradio right? You're going to
need a radio cuz he's likelosing touch. She's older guy
doesn't quite remember what'sgoing on. And, you know, he's
like, Oh, really bad thingshappened here. And there's a
picture behind on a bulletinboard inside the Office of this
guy leaning against a wall, andyou're McGregor's. Like, so who

(43:14):
was that? He's like, some guy ondeath row. I don't know. It's
been here since I started. Andthere's just this constant
dialogue of like hinting atsomething strange and dark and
deep, but we just don't knowwhat the hell it is. And Ewan
McGregor isn't the kind of guywho you're going to instantly
find out with because he's verylike pompous like, thinks he's

(43:35):
super fucking cool thinks he'slike above it all kind of guy.
So everything starts to take atwist when a prostitute is
brought in in the middle of thenight, to be taken down to the
morgue and a detective on thecase played by Nick nulty. as
Detective crais shows up andalso kind of shows him the ropes

(43:58):
a little bit more properly thanthe nightwatchman did. He
explains to him kind of what'sgoing on how things work around
here. And the case that thisprostitutes involved in
apparently there's a serialkiller, taking out prostitutes,
pretending it like basicallyhiring them to pretend that
they're dead, and then actuallykilling them and carving out
their eyes. So that's this guy'sMo. McNulty is super nice in a

(44:22):
way that no one else has been toEwan McGregor's character,
Martin Bell's just kind ofhelping him out a little bit
really taking him under his wingand saying, okay, kid, don't
worry about it. It's not a hardjob. Don't worry about this and
that you'll be fine. Meanwhile, things start to get a little
strange. His best friend James, who's played by Brolin begins to

(44:43):
act really weird. He starts offby playing a prank on martin
pretending to be a body thatcomes to life so breaks into the
morgue sneaks past and goesdown. And then like there's a
there's these pull cords overeach of the dead bodies so that
if somebody were you know, actually Live, they could pull
it in a light would go off, andhe'd have to go down and check
it out. So there's a lot ofcreepy moments of him, like

(45:07):
being worried this thing isgonna go off at all times. And
then like other things happen, like his alarm goes off telling
him, he needs to like go andcheck on the bodies. And he's
like, Okay, and so the lightactually goes off. And he's
like, Oh, what? And of course,it's his friend playing a prank
on him. So you're like, Okay, that's a little bit strange.

(45:28):
Then his friend also starts thisbar fight. They're both like
academic, academic kids. Sothey're very smart, a little too
smart, for their own good. Andlike his friend, like starts a
fight with these two huge, verybasic thug looking dudes by
basically calling themNeanderthals and asking when

(45:50):
their hair fell out, and all ofthis kind of ridiculous stuff
and and then confessing, afterthey leave the bar, that he met
this prostitute, and he paid herjust to watch her do very random
things. He was like, it wasfascinating. I would tell her go
stand over there, she goes, stand over there, tell her come
over here, she'd come overthere. And you ended up sleeping

(46:14):
with her. So James is goingthrough this kind of weird
moment in life where he's actingout in bizarre ways. And it only
gets worse when he puts hisfriend Martin on a blind date
with a prostitute named Joyce, and then interrupts their date

(46:35):
by sitting down and making Joycedo weird things and saying, I
will give you $50 if you drinkthis drink, and she goes, Okay,
and then he pours it to thevery, very top, and then lifts
the finger and starts forcingher to drink faster and faster.
So James is doing some weirdshit and then trying to get her
to give his buddy, you McGregora handjob at the table. And then

(46:58):
he says, I I'll give you 150bucks. That's my all my money
I've got on me today, if you cantell me that you love me, but
mean it. And this poor? I mean, this poor prostitute is just
empty. And she isn't she'sbarely there at all, as it is,
she is only been giving one wordanswers. And so she tries and
tries and tries is really anupsetting scene where he's just

(47:21):
like, No, I don't believe youknow, I don't believe you. And
then in the end, he doesn't giveher the cash. She says she can
do and she's like, sobbing. It'sreally rough. So of course, you
know, you start to wonder Jamesknows the layout of this place,
and seems to be messing withsome prostitutes. Maybe there's
something going on here. But wealso started to see that there

(47:43):
might be an implication that youand mckercher might be behind
these prostitute killings, theystart to find pieces of his DNA
around the body of one of theprostitutes, is sexually
assaulted and moved to anotherplace. And they think that maybe
he's involved. There was aprevious nightwatchman who had

(48:03):
this same problem whereApparently, it been sexually
assaulting the dead bodies. Andthe prostitute from this dinner,
gets in contact with hisgirlfriend and says, you have to
ask him to stop doing this inhis girlfriend's like, What?
What are you talking about? Sheand she says, he's making me
play dead while he's hiring meand making me play dead. So

(48:27):
obviously, somebody is trying toset him up for the fall of this
serial killer. And we don't knowwho it could be so many people.
I mean, obviously, his bestfriend is potentially
behind it. But then we also haveBrad dourif. Who's this kind of
assholey like head mortician whocomes in anytime something goes

(48:47):
wrong. So when the light goesoff, he's supposed to call like
the the kind of doctors to comein and check in on this body and
Brad dourif shows up. And he'slike, Oh, sorry. Yeah, false
alarm and Brad drops like whatthe fuck, I just got here. I'm
going to fight fire you if youdo this shit again. I'm it's
weird to see him has kind ofstraight laced, but they also

(49:08):
give him like this drugaddiction. So he's like, Hey,
man, are you a fan of like theXen family? And he's like, what
do you mean the Xen family andhe lists all these drugs that
end with Xen. He's like, I willgive you one right now if you
calm the fuck down. So there'sBroderick who, you know, is
trying to get him fired, andit's like, okay, maybe he knows

(49:28):
everything. He's really fuckingweird. But the evidence is
piling up further and furtheragainst Martin, as we try to
figure it out. And then, ofcourse, tension builds, and we
end up in this sort of amazingfinal act of twists and turns.
And final killer versusnonprofessional hero detective
story. This film was I reallyliked it. I had no idea who did

(49:54):
it and I just had all the waythrough going. Movies. This
person, maybe it's this person,I actually put a monetary At the
start of this movie, I bet it'sgonna be Brad dourif because why
else would Brad derf be in thismovie? Angelica he's fun
casting. Oh my gosh, totally.
And like, you know, and I don'tknow how well Brad nerve was
known at that point. I justdon't know his career well

(50:16):
enough. So I was just like, maybe like he wasn't a big
enough actors, but people didn'trealize he's always bad one. It
has such a great cast Brolin iskind of stunning in this film,
he plays this fine line, whereyou can see him as potentially a
serial killer, or potentially alost college kid, or
potentially, just the fun bestfriend who goes a little too far

(50:40):
sometimes. And it's such a fineline, but he just dances it like
nobody's business. Ewan McGregoris great as a cocky asshole.
He's constantly like working andbeing really stressed out and
freaked out is it's so dark. Andthere are these big trees
outside of the building. Andthey're wrapped in plastic, like

(51:00):
black plastic. So it's this atnighttime, you constantly see
through the windows is flappingblack plastic in the wind. And
it's like you can see shapes init sometimes. And they do such a
good job of that mindset thatmaybe Kelly you're even familiar
with. Having seen strange thingsdown the street. It reminded me

(51:21):
so much of that, where it's justlike, what is this? What is
this? Oh my god. And there'sthis constant play of like
paranoia and like just fear ofwhat's going on in the evening.
So that's really done. Well.
There's a really cool momentwhere we have you McGregor

(51:42):
confronting James Brolin in alaundry mat, and I noticed all
of the washing machines weregoing behind him and they all
had read stuff in it. It waslike read clothing and read
towels, every single one. So itwas just bouncing red, like
flying around behind him. I waslike, wow, that's like a weird
detail. But so cool. Um, there'salso this other just nice

(52:05):
details. There's moths that arein the light above. Ewan
McGregor like in his littleoffice. And as the movie goes,
they become a metaphor forwhat's going on with him.
Interesting. Yeah. So he getslike further and further
entangled. And then at onepoint, he looks up and they're
all dead. And you're like, oh,man shits gonna go. Just a lot

(52:27):
of really genuinely creepy, nicemoments. disliked. There's a
couple of things that don't payoff that whole radio joke at the
start with Lonnie Chapman wherehe's like, you got to have a
radio son, you need to get abreak. He never has one. And I'm
like, Why? Why did you do this?
I feel like it was such a leadup for nothing. Um, the ending
feels super abrupt and a littlebit strange. I'm not entirely

(52:49):
sure it feels like there'ssupposed to be some meaning
behind it. But I'm not sure whatthat meaning is. People, we have
to stop making people chop offfingers to get out of handcuffs.
I'm going to put in this specialrequest. Really not anymore.
Because I'm really done saying Ijust cannot handle this again.
And I was just like, as soon asthere was a moment and I was

(53:12):
like, No, no, no. Okay, it'shappening. It's happening.
That's awesome. Also, LaurenGraham in this movie, she's
super underused. And she justkind of becomes this character
of the girlfriend who getscheated on but keeps dating Josh
Brolin it's weird role and she'sjust a way that heavier hitter
than that, and at times, itbecomes super melodramatic.

(53:38):
So a little bit of trivia aboutthis foam. After the knots the
gotten found. The originalDanish film found critical
acclaim and 94 director or bornAdele was hired by Dimension
Films could purchase the rightsto come to the US to remake the
film. It was intended to be thefirst of three films bordel

(53:59):
Warner doll would direct forMiramax obviously. I don't
believe that happened.
nightwatch took a year tocomplete due to a series of test
screenings and reshoots, Miramaxordered changes made by Miramax
to the finished cut includedreducing the role of James's
girlfriend Maria, which isLauren Graham, and adding a more
satisfying final scene quoteunquote. Born Adele went on to

(54:21):
state that the actual shootingof nightwatch was terrific.
Everything was totally wonderfuland I was free to do as I
pleased, but everything suddenlybecame extremely complicated
during the post productionphase. The CO writer I believe
Steven Soderbergh, as his name, described it as himself as
having to sanitize the original1994 script. For example, the

(54:44):
Danish version, there was ascene at the scene at the
restaurant with the prostituteon he's actually supposed to get
a blowjob instead of a handjob.
They also added weird Americanpop culture references At one
point, they say something like,it's just like one of those
movies on the USA Network wherethe hero sees something weird

(55:05):
and no one will believe him. Andat that moment, I just was like,
why did they just reference theUSA Network for no apparent
reason whatsoever? It soundslike native advertising to me.
Really does. It was verystrange. Soderbergh himself
noted his frustrations that hownearly a year after shooting had

(55:26):
begun, he was being forced toprovide new script pages for
reshoots, there were going to bedetrimental to the quality of
the film, lots and lots and lotsof re shoots. In the United
States. nightwatch wasoriginally scheduled to come out
in the fall of 96. Due to theextended post production it was
pushed back to several dates, including Spring Summer of 97

(55:48):
and October 97, as suggested bythe film's copyright year,
before eventually getting totheaters April 98. It was
claimed that October 97 reallydid really state was cancelled
to avoid competition withanother Ewan McGregor film, a
lifeless ordinary that reallysaid same month. Nick nanti said

(56:08):
of nightwatch as the studio gotit, they realized that they had
a European paste film and theykept hacking at it and hacking
at it. Ewan McGregor similarlyremarked at the time that this
was the perfect example of afilm they would not leave alone,
there was constant reshoots, including the ending, and they
took all the interesting stuffout making it bland. The
original concept was the reasonI accepted it in the first

(56:29):
place. And I had a massive, Ihad massive strands of the
character removed, which isinsulting. In 2019. McGregor
again, spoke out against mirovaaxes production interference on
the watch, claiming HarveyWeinstein ruined that film, and
that Weinstein made us reshooteverything that was interesting
about the film was replaced. Forall of that, because in between

(56:54):
the rotten tomatoes score, anddifferent you know, the
different stories of how it wasreshaped and remodeled and
redone, you would think thisfilm sucks, was actually pretty
good. Like I as much as people, you know, say that it would have
been great to see what theoriginal version of this was,
and maybe just seeing the Danishversion is probably the ticket
to that. Yeah, I think it's areally good, really good film

(57:16):
that ages extremely well.
Two questions. Yes. Does thisall take place over one night?
It does not. Okay. It's overlike weeks and weeks. Okay,
good. Because it's like, boy, this sounds like an awful lot of
shit. No, no, it's really funny.
So all the scary moments you seewith Ewan McGregor where he's,
like, petrified in his office.

(57:36):
They then overlap with himhanging out with his friends
like that next day being like,No, I wasn't scared. Oh, yeah.
Like they showed me this deadprostitute. It's no big deal,
though. I mean, it's just death.
Right? That's supernatural. Andyou see, his eyes are like
saucers. He like can't breathe.
And they just keep doing thatover and over again. So there's

(57:58):
this there's a really good playwith like, time It feels it
feels like it was pretty well.
And then what did you watch iton? Oh, I actually paid the $4
Oh, no, I didn't. I'm sorry. Iwatched it for free on Plex.
Don't do that. Oh, hey, the $4for Amazon for the love of God.
There were so many ads. It waslike every five minutes is Yeah.

(58:20):
And I felt committed. I wantedto stop about halfway through
and just watch it properly. ButI just had a really
far. You sold me on this one.
I've never seen it. So check itout. Check it out.
I remember it is one of thoseyou know, Ewan McGregor things
that I saw shallow grave is likeI must watch all his movies,
right? It's pretty good. Mytitle is less friendly to the

(58:44):
general posting. I watched 2020sBut boy, what do you do?
Detective? You look everydetective ever. Oh, yes. Oh,
just get the greasy hair and thethe earring. Looks good. You
look good. What about you? Whatwill you do? tragedy strikes

(59:08):
pretty good county today as lawenforcement have yet to make any
missing child advantagethis morning. So you're asking
me to go off this theory you gotabout a white married male who

(59:36):
happens to be a father living inthe suburbs in pretty big
County, who also happens to beyour age and monster objects,
animals and children. Then hesomehow digest them. And he does
this and sprays almost in serialkiller fashion. I don't know if

(59:56):
I like the idea of workplacehorror on this one. This I've

(01:01:04):
never even heard of this.
Well, it's Rotten Tomatoes, scarcritics it's 70 audience at 64
Island budgeted estimation150,000 you know that's an
estimation. Wow. Box Office. Nofriggin idea. Yeah. 2020. So,

(01:01:26):
the director by Tara Tylerkoryak, who's most known for a
series called tiny cinema TV,which is like 83 episodes. It's
like a episodic comedy skit showor something I'm not sure. And
something called the pockettears. He's also the writer,
which, with his writing partner,Ryan, coach, they both written

(01:01:48):
almost everything together. Atsay, lots of shorts, directors
films. And that also holds truefor the actors. That Tyler is
one of the lead actors so thedirector plays the lead
detective in the movie. Andthere's Shelby dasch who has
been in most of Tyler's movies, but also in Vampire Diaries. dot

(01:02:10):

Sorry, that's a lot to take picsabout my date on it. And circus

hours at least. Wow. Thispresented by epic pictures logo
comes along. See this one a lot.
So it starts off. My firstthought the first shot like
whoa, this is a lot more lowbudget than I thought. Which is

(01:02:54):
weird because the rest of themovie looks fantastic. But this
first shot just looks bad. Butit's the he's at work. Doing it
work for a roofing company thatstarts their day every morning
with a rap cheer where they allget together and rap about the
day's work. Oh my god, either.
If you ever worked in a placethat does that. Oh my god,

(01:03:16):
really weird. And it reallydoesn't work at all. So in our
lead guy here has to go in andchip and get the old finger up
the butt check. And when he goesinto the doctor, the doctor
seems to leave it there for toolong, but chip doesn't seem to
mind. Wow. Yes, I said that alot during this. Oh my god. And

(01:03:42):
of course you helped me a movie.
He doesn't have a happymarriage. Wondering if his
wife's having an affair. She hasno interest in helping with his
new fetish. Jesus, but boy is heinterested in continuing his new
fetish. And it's implied butstuff because of the doctor this

(01:04:05):
Yeah. Okay. And it escalatesquickly, because the family dog
disappears. That's complex. Yes.
And then he goes to a park seesa lady playing with a kid. Next
scene, the police here at thedoor asking what he was doing in

(01:04:28):
the park? Because there's amissing child. Why? The
implication is that he'ssticking all this stuff up his
butt. Yes. Okay. Oh, yeah, it's,I know what that means. My next
line here the magic in this filmseems to be the guy can stick
anything up his button. littleweird credits roll 13 minutes

(01:04:49):
into the movie. They're reallylong. But this is when Tyler the
copy introduced is introduced inhis story. Man, he's added At a
meeting and the chip the chipchip is turns out to be a
sponsor for is a chip aka budpartner right? They got to dig
out to a dinner afterwards andthe cop apparently loves hot

(01:05:12):
sauce I'm not sure why this isin the film but he like layers
and stuff with hot sauce. Andthat's development There you go.
The movie starts off feelingalmost like a strange
alternative to that film I likelast year with a swallow. Yeah,
by the end of the movie. No,definitely not that because it

(01:05:33):
had early on it has that samefeeling of somebody trying to
find something going right intheir world when their job sucks
and their marriage sucks and hisbutts happy he's back at work
but the boss is upset because aan achievement plaque has gone
missing. Oh my god. No and andnow a tennis shoe and a weird

(01:05:55):
scene to the light bulb.
All of this with the exceptionof the light bulb is played off
screen you don't really get likereally? What? What is that
really what's going on thismovie. So the film deals a lot
with obsession so they show thecop also being kind of an

(01:06:15):
obsessive except his obsessionis with busting people big a
cop. But the the job has a BringYour Child to Work Day. And so
we get a shot of one of thechuck they decided to to play
hide and seek at work. And oneof the children. He see a guy
working with chip working at hisdesk and suddenly there's a kid

(01:06:36):
underneath his desk. The nextscene is him erasing videotapes.
Then I wrote at this point, itsure seems like he might be
sticking kids up his butt.
However, it still feels likereally, is that really what's
going on? So you're still notentirely certain? Here's a great
breakdown of the story by theADA cops, Chief. So this is this

(01:06:58):
whole line is in the movie. Soyou're asking me to go off this
theory you got about a whitemarried male who happens to be a
father living in the sub termsuburbs, who also happens to be
your a sponsor, which I mightadd has been secretly running
around cramming objects, animalsand children up his asshole.
Then he somehow digests them.

(01:07:19):
And he does this in sprees, almost in a serial killer
fashion. Is that about it? Yes,that's exactly it.
Sothe cop joins family for dinner.
And for some reason. Well, okay, watch after the watching movies
done. I know it happens. But itworks rough in the movie, where
he's got the, he's got like athree quarter inch disk of the

(01:07:42):
video, the hard plastic ones, Iused to have four of the move of
the footage from work. And he'strying to find a place to hide
it. So I'm obviously thinkingbut there's a really obvious
shoe location. But for somereason, he doesn't do that. And
later on in the movie, I findout why he didn't do that. But
the cop finds that desk in thebathroom. Because the cop had to

(01:08:03):
take a dump cost both ways now.
Then the story goes back andforth continues there, say a
children's birthday. And it's alaser tag game. It's actually an
incredibly well, shot scenefeels almost like a climax of

(01:08:27):
the movie with all the stuffthat's going on. Not all people
running down, but it's not. Soif you're intrigued by this
film, because I got to talkabout what's really going on. At
one point, the cop it looks likecops gonna bust him and he runs
away and you get a objects inmirror shot of the guy bending
over opening his butt cheeks.
And it's like this sound of windstarting to pull the cop. He's

(01:08:51):
got it. He's got a black hole inhis ass basically. Yes. Wow. And
so, so the cop gets pulled intohis butt. Okay, the child that
was in the park was his child.
And the kid from the office isthere too. So it's like a little

(01:09:14):
world inside is but the dog isalive to
see inside his butt. So justlike blacking that,
or no, it's really gross. It'skind of reddish and wet looking.
And they did some kind of aeffect over the top that makes
it sort of look like you knowhow when it's really hot outside

(01:09:34):
and you see the Mirage look froma distance sort of looks like
that to imply that it's reallyhot and stinky in there. Wow.
And they have a scary momentwhen he farts which is actually
quite hilarious and the way itworks out but the cops figure
some stuff out and well it justgoes from there. But let me tell
you the end of this movie is sosweet and so full of hope. art

(01:10:00):
that it makes. I'm watching thismovie. It's fine. It's fine.
It's funny. It's weird. It'sbizarre, but the ending is so
heartfelt and so sincere, thatit paints the rest of the movie
as being far better than I thinkit really is. So it was it was
good. We got some trivia notes.
Cuz you know, I don't think I'dneed to go deeply into this

(01:10:25):
story. I was kind of expectingthe movie, you know, my low.
Yes, we've got that. Butcreature. I was expecting
something like that. But it'sactually a much subtler film.
Despite everything I said, aboutobsessions and works well. It
was john waters favorite 2020film, it tells you a lot about

(01:10:45):
it right there and sound likethe john waters. The hairspray
guy here guys, then all thosesweet little family movies.
There's a lot of reviews, saycomparing it to the concept of a
serial killer movie, which Ithink is an incredibly lazy
review, in that there's a copinvestigating something weird

(01:11:07):
disappearances. But there's nodeaths. There's no real.
Everybody's just missing. So Iwas like, No, I don't I don't
see that at all. premiere two, four sold out screenings at
Fantastic Fest in Austin. And itwas actually based on want to
tiny cinemas original comedysketches. I like the consensus

(01:11:29):
that was listed in RottenTomatoes instead of a gross out
gag fest. But boy is asurprisingly tender Bizarro
comedy. That works best becauseit plays the strangeness so
straight. So Wow, office highjinks ensue What did you watch
this on? Prime amazon prime. Soyou don't have to pay to rent.

(01:11:53):
Well, that's good. Yeah. Goodviewing your future. Haha. I
sold Yeah, this one right. Ah,hi. y'all gotta got right and do
sounds very intriguing. I was Iyeah, I was pretty surprised.
Yeah, I mean that. But Ihave sticking things up my butt.
I think this would be the moviefor me. But it's just not

(01:12:15):
working.
There's something about it. Thatjust isn't the best selling.
selling point to me. I can'tquite say what it is. But just
put your finger there. I can'tput my finger. It's right on the
tip of my tongue. Eric, yes,I'm horrified that you have the

(01:12:38):
next sub genre.
Well, I'm inspired by but we're,we're faces. It's hard. This is
you know, that's like the titlecome first for a movie. I feel

(01:12:58):
like now we need to check thatis the title. But not this.
We're looking at the idea ofknockoff movies. Not sequels,
not reimaginings or remakekings. But that big movie comes
out and suddenly you see 40movies like like transformers
and trans morphers. The finalversion there. So make sense?

(01:13:24):
Yeah. Yeah. And I like to usethe asylum collection. So there
you go.
Speaking of that, we talkedabout army the dead last week.
Did Did anybody notice the veryblatant aliens stuff going on in
that movie? I mean, some of thecharacters looked exactly like
Why can't I think that?
Xenomorphs? No, no, no, no, no.

(01:13:49):
The the crew that he brings in,they were so cookie cutter alien
Marines. Yeah, I can see that.
Yeah, including the one guy whosent in as a corporate guy. And
yeah. Wow, I feel like he reallywanted to make a aliens movie.
AndI think my favorite part is when
they get to that when theyactually get to the What's it

(01:14:11):
called? Safe, safe. Brain dobetter when they get to the safe
and you've got the German kidwho's like the safe expert. And
they look down at the the bodiesthat all the other people who've
tried to get in and it's likethem, yeah. infinite loop

(01:14:32):
of trying over and over again,to get it safe. And just
failing. I was like, What if itis? That's crazy. What if they
all arewhen they finally got to the
safe? And he's doing all thisstuff? I was like, why can't the
guy who owned the safe and sentthem on this? Just give them the
combo to get into the safe?

(01:14:53):
Oh my god. Why not? That's agreat question. Well, then you
would have the cool German kid.
Thank you. Go Yeah. Okay, sothat is the show. Thanks, Eric
for that. Wonderful. I'm glad toend it that way. Oh my god. And
many thanks to everyone who'sout there liking and sharing

(01:15:14):
who's participating in the valuefor value method and all of this
stuff. We love everybody so muchand yes, can't can't say thank
you enough times. And withapologies to Vanessa's mother
formy movie this oh my god, make
sure to share this with yourfamily.
I it's funny because so many ofmy relatives have gotten sucked

(01:15:36):
in and I'm like, I'm notcensoring anything that I say
I'm just aware, right? I'm justvery aware now.
Right? Well, I'm sure she'sgonna have a talking to you
about who you hang out. Oh, sheasks about you guys. Don't
worry. We're there. Oh, goodnight. Okay, so that is the

(01:15:56):
