Unknown (00:00):
I'm so glad we've all seen it.
Oh, I'm sorry. Did I break yourconcentration
somewhere between science andsuperstition,
such sights to show you.

(00:29):
Strange eons. Y'all ready?
Welcome strange eons radio thatis Eric over there. Hello, that
has Vanessa over there. Hello, and I am Kelly. It has been a
while since we got together, guys. Yes, to see both of you.
Larson, I turned 56 which putsme closer to 60 than 50. But

(00:53):
here's my trick. Okay, allright. I've told everybody I've
turned 60. Oh, they're like, fuck, you look great. Nice
feeling to get instead of a 56 arough one, they just tell me how
good I look for 60.
You look great for 60. Thankyou. Yeah, either that or just

(01:14):
go look at 70s and 80s sitcomswith older supposed to be older
people in and go, Wow, I looknothing like fish from Barney
Miller, even though I'm olderthan him now,
right? Yeah, I saw the real ageof the Golden Girls at one
point, and I was like, Jesuscry, Minnie, you ladies did not

(01:35):
dress appropriately foryourselves. You did no favors.
Well, speaking of old stuff, yeah, yeah, go tell me they have
old timey things that old womenenjoy greatly. Oh, and young
women, apparently, I feelsurprised, but Dean and I went
to see Barry Manilow. Oh mygosh. At

(01:58):
the he writes the songs thatmake the whole world say it's
right, it's true.
And boy, when he's saying thatsong, he was correct. There's
part of the reason I wanted tomention it. There's actually odd
emotional things tied to seeinghim for us. For Dina, her aunt,
few years ago, passed away fromcancer, and her favorite artist

(02:20):
was Barry Manilow. So sheassociates him very strongly
with her. When she had gotdiagnosed, her mom and her other
sisters, the three sisters, wentto Vegas to see him together and
all this stuff. So it's reallystrongly connected to her. And I
have an odd emotional connectionto when I was pretty young, my

(02:41):
mom and I decided we'd go seeBarry Manilow together sometime,
which we never were. We nevergot to do so like a show like
this shouldn't feel thisemotional, but it was wonderful,
and you could tell he can stillsing. Oh, good. He had, there's

(03:02):
some tweaking going on to thesoundboard, of course, but he
had enough to hit some of thereal high notes, or the real
powerful notes, not necessarilyhigh, not as high as it used to
be, but still powerful. Theaudience went fucking ape shit.
The response to the two songs hehit those high ends was just, I
don't recall ever see this kindof thing in a concert where it's

(03:26):
just like this sustained loud, just like being at a sea ox game
when they score a touchdown,it's like, Jesus, this is
insane. And all great evening, except for one giant, weird,
weird thing. I don't know if hehas a hand in hiring his opening
act, or if his opening acts likehis nephew or something. No, it

(03:49):
was this singer, comedian, ohno, and it was like a comedy
show from minimum five yearsago, maximum 10 to 15 years ago.
Like he mentioned the airlinesno longer getting shoes. But
instead of figuring out a modernjoke that ties into that, he
made a joke about that wouldhave fit way back then. You

(04:11):
know, like, why couldn't it havebeen bras? Was his no
people's like, do I work it up alittle bit guys and COVID jokes?
And the other thing he did, hewent through decades and
imitated singers badly. Hello, yeah, it was even, do you

(04:39):
couldn't even do Ozzy or Elvisimitations. Who the fuck can't
do an Elvis imitation that is asupposedly professional sing.
I'm assuming you're getting paida lot to do this act, dude.
Yeah. Dina said this morning, Ithink that was the single worst
act I've seen of any kind ever, all comedians, all musicians,
everything. And he. Awful. Hewas bad. I was like, Oh my God,

(05:03):
I hope Barry's This isn't like,Barry's sense of humor or
something. He's gonna come outand, I mean, sometimes they find
people when they're like, onroad for like, larger festivals
or larger gatherings, they'llsee acts and they'll be like, I
love that. You're coming withme, kid. So hopefully it was not
that, yeah, his thought beingreally,

(05:24):
usually, though it's management,yeah, decision, and it's
somebody else that they manage.
So might be the manager'snephew.
There you go. It had to besomebody, but, but, but, Barry
was amazing. He also toldwonderful stories. He did this.
His performance of Mandy wasballsy. He showed he did the his

(05:44):
he started up. He left thestage. Stage went dark. The
video screens light up with theNicolas Cage and the he's in the
new bio, Terry metal, bio man,the Midnight Special Appearance
of his in, oh yeah, 1975 Yeah.

(06:06):
So his younger self is on there, and he starts singing Mandy. And
he gets a couple bars in, andBarry walks out, sits down at
the piano and starts duetingwith himself. Oh my gosh. And
then it fade. They faded theolder or the original recording
of him, and he took overhimself. He's like, That's

(06:26):
ballsy for an 82 year old guy tocome up and sing along his 20
some odd year old self and soundgood doing it. So
where was this at? Like, itsounds like a rhyming Oh, wow.
There's a really bigEric, there's a big, big court.
I won the sell out, but it was abig crowd. I was a little
surprised the age range. It wasfar wider than I thought it

(06:49):
would be. Wow. Yeah, I kind offigured Dean and the younger
edge, which we overall, wedefinitely were. But there's
like groups of 20 year olds notwith their parents coming to see
you and all this stuff going,Oh, that's kind of cool. I
don't know if it's Gen Z or Genalpha, but, man, you cannot
predict those people. They like.
I don't know if it's Tiktokinfluence or whatever. Like,

(07:11):
they get their info and theirlike, popular stuff from such
strange sources that they willjust be into the weirdest shit.
And you're like, how did youeven find that
he did have a song that he'slike, this is not a song I
recorded. This is a song I justplayed live. And somehow the
Tick Tock gang got a hold of it,and he had a, he performed the

(07:33):
song and had the the peopledancing to it from tick tock,
yeah, yeah. So I got a weird hitthat I never even released.
Do read them and weep he did notokay, that sounds

(07:53):
like fun time. It was, itwas really, really neat. I like
climate pledge. It sounds good.
It's a shit, well, better thanKey Arena. I have
not yet seen a band there. I'veonly seen rustling there, so I'm
hoping to see hockey andsomebody sing.
I see cracking too. But damn, there's tickets.

(08:16):
You know what time of the beer Ishould be buying these tickets,
like just, I don't know theschedule very well, but I'm
like, when, when you buy thingsfor that? Yep.
So this is Game expensive andtickets for things I
was looking into, tickets foryacht crew,

(08:38):
seats $73 a piece for a yachtrock cover band, 67 if you
wanted to table up close. Wow.
And I was like, Fuck you guys.
I'm going to karaoke that nightinstead, and I'm going to sing
all those songs for free ifanybody wants to
come. Yeah, we're we're actuallydoing two cover bands in like,
the next two weeks. Oh, we'reseeing one. You would definitely

(08:59):
love an Eagles cover band, butthat one the best seats are $25
each. Yeah, that seemsreasonable.
The other is her brother'sfavorite band is Pink Floyd, and
there's brick Floyd, I believeis what they're called. I've
seen them. Oh, cool. That's sowe're saying at that park right
there, near Redmond. W startswith W, yeah, yeah,

(09:23):
they're really good. I imaginethat Eagles fan would be really
good. Also,I would think so. But who knows,
people who like likeeagles, horrible
music. How hard can it be tosing that shit? Good God, sir.
All right. Movies, yeah, let'stalk about some movies. Boy, I

(09:43):
have seen some stuff you guys. Isaw the life
of Chuck. You saw the life ofJack, somebody like, based
on a Stephen King movie, orbased on a Stephen King book
that I did not like. Um, wow.
Movie is very faithful to itelse Flanagan does? Yeah? And
you'd have to be pretty fuckingheartless to not like this
movie, because it's literallyabout a guy dancing, and I still

(10:05):
did not like it. I was like, first of all, I went in with a
chip on my shoulder. I don'tknow if you guys saw the
previews for this from the mindof speaking, oh yeah, heart.
Mike Flynn, like, Fuck you what?

(10:29):
Wow, you know he has to, okay, that shit.
I know, for a guy who createsthe movies, overall, he creates
his promotional mindset, it'slike, maybe you should hire out
for that more often. Ijust disgusted by the preview.
The movie is fine. It is. It isreally weird. The reason I

(10:50):
didn't love the story is becauseKing had done something similar
in another short story in thecollection before this one. And
so when it happened again, I waslike, oh, did we? Did we already
do this? But he's kind of goneback to the well a couple times.
He's sure 80 years old, so I'msure he's just kind of pumping
him out. Yeah, everybody in. Itwas fantastic. There is a little

(11:16):
bit of eeriness. It's, it'sthree stories told within the
life of Chuck, and those inreverse order. And so the first
story is basically the end ofthe world. And then him as a
middle aged man who is goingthrough some stuff, and he comes

(11:39):
across a street performer who'splaying the drums, and he
decides to, for whatever reason, just kind of start dancing with
it, and draws a crowd. And thenhe draws this young woman out of
the crowd, and they do thisamazing dance routine and all
that stuff. And that part is,you know, it's pure joy. And
then it goes to him as a youngchild, and some of the stuff
that he goes through there, MiaSarah is in it. And I was really

(12:05):
happy to see her again. And shewas lovely. Mark Hamill is in
it. And of course, TomHiddleston is great. I don't
know, I stood up and I was like,Well, that was just like, the
fucking story.
So I went and saw it as well.
Did Icould be ramble on like this the

(12:27):
whole time I sorted. I want tomake sure I
wasn't gonna influence anythingyou were gonna say. I felt very
similarly. And I have not readit. I found it a little boring,
yeah? Like it was just rough.
Like, I was really interested inthe weird end of the world
stuff, and then it felt veryshort and not that much of the
actual story. And then weshifted gears so heavily, and

(12:50):
everything was so slow. Andlike, I love the theater going.
It's not my least favorite, myFlanagan thing, but it's in the
bottom three. Probably I likeMike Flanagan a lot, but it just
was not it. I did not cry, and Iwas like, am I a monster?

(13:11):
Apparently we're both monsters, because the people coming out of
it did cry, and they were like,This is the best Stephen King
movie ever made. Harddisagreement. I have some
recommendations for you towatch, because I bet you haven't
seen them, not even the best Stephen King
movie this year.

(13:31):
I really liked the monkey movie, but So yeah, that's the life of
Chuck in and out of the theatersimmediately. I'm sure it will be
streaming very soon. Yeah, he'sof Amazon now, Mike Flynn, I
guess, from the shoes of Tom Hilton. Do
you think he learned those danceroutine because he was so good?
Is he just a dancer for real?

(13:53):
Yeah? Yeah. That was awesome.
Yeah. He was great. Well, I sawa film a little bit ago now, 28
years later, have you guys bothseen this movie? Holy smokes.
Okay, so I, first of all, Ishould preface it by saying I
did not re watch 28 days lateror 28 months later, before

(14:14):
weeks. Thank you. So I was like,I don't hardly remember, aside
from the opening scene of thefirst movie, what is happening.
Turns out, does not matter. It'sso much later, and none of those
characters seem to be involvedin this. That's fine. But
wait, isn't Killian? Oh, he'snot in really. No, I thought

(14:37):
that was the thing. Okay, not that I saw. Okay.
So it's cool. It's weird. Idon't know. I think they did a
really good job. It feels like apretty fresh take on that story.
It has two weird things, Iguess, against it for me.

(15:00):
Personally, one of which is it'scut like a 90s music video. Oh,
dear. It's very stylistic. Ithas strange like, audio stuff
happening constantly. It's likeflicking and then going to
something else and flicking andgoing to something, you know,
like, it's just got that reallystylistic heavy hand to the
point where they're like, playing, like our old British

(15:24):
like TV stuff over the top ofthings to like, make comparisons
to King Arthur's Court, or toMargaret Thatcher or whatever.
That being said, I think it'sgot some really good commentary.
It's a really compelling story.
It's got great characters. It isone of three films, so it will
not it does not conclude. It isa part of this kid's story. It

(15:46):
ends in a very, very, verycontroversial way.
That's what I've heard. Yeah,and I don't want to spoil
anything for anyone, but I dowant to talk about so if you
want to watch this movie, youshould watch it and, like, skip
30 seconds ahead inthis 30 seconds, come on, two
minutes, five, six.

(16:09):
I won't talk about that much. Soin the end, we see all these
guys in these, like, tracksuitsand blonde wigs jump out, and
they're all called the jimmies, and they're like, the film goes
from being this, like dark, liketale about survival and like
relationships between likefather and son, to like these
goofy, like, guys doing highkicks and Ninja and like, it's

(16:33):
weird, are they high kicking thezombies? Yes, oh yes, they
come out. I'm suddenly far moreinterested in this movie. It is
the last, like, one minute ofthis movie. However, it's
controversial, because the lookand the name is based off of
Ginny Savile, who is one of themost prolific child molesters in

(16:58):
history.
Odd choice to make. Oddchoice to make. It's fine to be
like, Okay, well, what if he wasnever found out? And in this
alternative timeline, peoplereally looked up to him, like
this kid who, before everythingwent wrong, was really into
like, Teletubbies in Britishchildren's TV, saw him and I
did, because he was a children'sTV presenter, but his victims

(17:18):
are very much alive, yeah, andit is, like a lot, I mean, like,
I think it's over 100 people, and they were like kids when
they so it's like, you're makinga point with your film, and
you're choosing a stylisticthing. And that's obviously the
whole next film is going to beinvolving these new characters.

(17:39):
But is it in bad taste? A lot ofBritish people are like, fuck,
the actual fuck. So I don'tknow. I don't know how to
personally feel, because I didnot. I he was dead before I even
knew who he was.
I think that we can all takestep back as people who have

(18:01):
been writers and filmmakers andeverything and go this one
probably ruffles some feathers, and maybe it doesn't have to be
in the movie.
You could have done many otherthings. You could have done
Power Rangers, Elvis could be somany things. Yeah, so I mean,
it's definitely there's a lot inthere that I didn't realize

(18:22):
until I, like, looked atinternet stuff and listened to
British reviewers talking aboutit, and I was like, oh my god, I
miss this and this and this.
There's tons in there. There'stons layered in. It's extremely
thoughtful writing from AlexGarland, but
wow, yeah, well, that has beenin theaters for three or four
weeks now. So yeah, imaginewe'll get that streaming pretty

(18:43):
soon. Yes, it should be outprobably, yeah.
And you know, the enthusiasm wasdiminished a little bit when you
describe the ending further.
Yeah, sorry. Ireally burst that bubble for
you. But, I mean, if you don'tknow, you'd just be like
clockwork. Oh, Orange. This iscrazy. What's happening. And
then if you do know, you'relike, Fuck you, you so anyway,

(19:09):
all right, well, so on to abigger film. I'm guessing. I
went and saw the film release ofthis year so far with Superman.
Yeah.
Andside note, Cinna Mark, we went
to the one where they deliverfood. 21 and over. Holy shit.

(19:29):
Did they make money that night?
Peep the waitstaff, or whateveryou call ushers coming in with
trays of food, 789, times, withlike seven or eight servings of
every time going throughout thewhole thing. Usually you go to

(19:50):
those places and this, they'redone serving five so minutes
into the movie. Yeah, we got ourpopcorn 20 some odd minutes into
them show, and they were stillgoing. It's like. Wow. But so
that was fun. Side note, I say Ienjoyed that a lot of it. It is,
I get it if you grew up on ZackSnyder Superman, you never

(20:13):
really read the comic books. Youdidn't even bother to go watch
Christopher Reeve movies orsomething. That was your
Superman. This must be a veryweird Superman for real, but if
you've read the comics, many ofthem at all. I think this is a
great portrayal of the Supermancharacter who is hopeful,

(20:34):
helpful and just a bit naive, which I think hasn't been caught
since Christopher Reeve playedthe character, they just
completely ignored that aspectof him that I understand both of
you have seen it. I'm curious ifyou are in the group that like a
guy we know hated it with afiery passion. Whoa. It's like

(20:56):
to a level, going, what the hellis wrong with you? Is like that
all copies should be burned andthis movie destroyed forever.
It's like, whoa, Jesus.
And I I'm bummed to hear that, because I'm bummed to hear that
about that person. I've readenough superhero content to know
I have read no superherocontent, and I still knew who

(21:20):
his pal, Jimmy Olsen was. Istill knew when various bad guys
show up, showed up, who theywere. You know, I knew who the
green that version of the GreenLantern was. It was so fucking
fun. I felt like I had a greatheart. It was funny. And I think
that I really appreciated thatJames Young was able to make a

(21:42):
film and not make it. I don'twant to say satirical, but,
like, cynical, cynical, yeah, itdidn't have that, like, like,
attitude, the funny, but like, pissed off at it. It felt like a
little more. Didn't wink at theaudience. It
like brought it back and they, you know, you have Superman, and

(22:04):
it's so smart to then, if youwant to have those jokes and
that, like roughness around theedges, have the other characters
do it, yeah? Because then itcontrasts. Man, it works. Yeah.
Lantern, terrific. Isincredible. Fuck. What did you
think? Holly, yeah, the first thing I noticed there

(22:25):
are shots when they're walkingthrough the Daily Planet, and I
was just kind of staring at thescreen with my mouth open. I was
like, this movie is so coollooking. I was just like, Fuck,
man, wow, this is really a coollooking movie. I had a couple of
quibbles right at the end, wheresomething got wrapped up like

(22:47):
immediately, even though thismassive world ending event was
actually that was pretty fun. Isthis a student phone? I thought
this David Corn, sweat corn, yeah, I thought he was really
good. And his relationship withLois, I thought was so

(23:11):
realistic. And his kind offrustration with, you know,
don't you get it? I do goodthings. And her saying, let's
look at it from a differentpoint of view. I thought that
was a really, really thatinterview was a really strong
thing. I thought that if you area Zack Snyder fan, you might

(23:33):
have to love this movie, thisscene. There were some scenes in
this that were fighting rightout of a horror film that was so
scary and intense in the pocketuniverse stuff that I was just
like Jesus Christ. If I broughta kid to this, you know, a young
kid, I'd have to be like this, sorry about your childhood. And
then I don't think I've everseen a more evil. Lex Luthor,

(23:59):
yeah, Jesus Christ. He wasterrified. Yeah,
incredibly, yeah. He'll realize,as a character who was as
financially powerful as he was, using it properly, as opposed to
just showing him being a bigparty or something, or he built

(24:21):
a chat or something. He reallydid some phenomenally, you can
interesting, theobsession they did so well,
showing how obsessed and crazedhe was over Superman and just
it, I don't know I felt likewith everything, they took the
time and something that, that Ididn't realize until my husband
brought it up afterwards, he waslike, the world is so full and

(24:42):
like, there are so many thingsbeing showcased and showed on
you get to see a really fullmetropolis. And he's like, you
don't get that from Zack Snyder, because they didn't want to make
a choice that they couldn'tcorrect later constantly. So.
Feels claustrophobic and darkand like you don't ever really
get to see anything, becausethey just didn't want to make

(25:05):
the wrong step. And with this,it felt like James Gunn being
like, I don't know if I'm gonnaget to make another one of
these. Fuck it. This is what Iwant. I'm gonna show everything.
I like this. I like that. I wantthis character here. So it was,
I don't know, it felt reallyfun.
Yeah, I was, you know,afterwards, I was like, I don't
know how you don't like thisnight. If you know Superman fan,

(25:28):
it's really, really good. $225budget, 225 which is half of the
Last Avengers movie projected tohave 135 to have $135 million
opening. Opened at 217 million.
I think they're gonna do fine.

(25:49):
It's got a 94% on RottenTomatoes. Yeah. I think it's got
the highest ever rotten tomatoesfor definitely, for Superman.
First Superman, yeah. So I thinkthat the word is out that this
is a pretty good movie, if youlike this kind of movie, if you
are one of those people is like,I am done with superheroes. I
get it. There's a lot ofsuperheroes in this. Well,

(26:10):
that's Mr. Terrific. I had noidea how he was, and she became,
like, my favorite character.
Yeah, I haven't read anythingwith him, and I thought I was
alone. And like, why don't I?
Really, I kind of recognize, youknow, the mask, but that looks
like one of a villain. I knewhospital,
I knew Green Lantern. I did notknow him. And I was like, um,
who's this guy? Okay, I guessthis was a deal of cool. And he

(26:32):
was, yeah, really fun. Yeah, I did like
crypto.
And so good. Oh yeah, crypto andthe use of cryptos owner was
perfect for setting up a futurefilm based on a book that is
very good about that character.
So they did a great job showingthat person so well the the

(26:55):
what was I gonna say? Thetheater was packed? Yeah, that
theater is never packed. I'vebeen to that one a lot. I've
never seen a packed house likethat. So that was like, this is,
well, it soundslike every theater showing it
was packed, yeah, for sure. And I mean, I
went on a Saturday, which Inever do, but we had a
babysitter, and we they hadlike, four or five different

(27:17):
screenings of it. There were two3d theaters doing it. There was
an XD theater. And then therewas, like, several standard and
they were all almost not notfull full, but like at least two
thirds full. And, I mean, it'sjust crazy how many screenings
they were putting together.
Just, Iremember when I was getting out
it was gone, talking about, well, I get to be I get to how

(27:37):
can I humiliate my buddy. I knowI'm going to cast billion as the
guy with that haircut so bad.
He was fantastic. I've neverliked the character, and I ended
up kind of loving Nathanfillions version. Yeah. He did

(27:57):
great. Everybody did a reallygreat job. The woman playing
Lois Lane, RachelYes, from marvelous Miss basil.
I do not like her. I fell inlove with her and that she was
just like, She is gorgeous, andI, I bought into everything. And
Jimmy Olsen was great.

(28:19):
He was so fun. Yeah, I thinkthat that, I'm not totally sure,
but I think it's pulled from thedeath of my or what, who killed
my pal, Jimmy Wilson, orwhatever, yeah, oh, the
girlfriend and stuff. Yeah, Ithink Eve is from that, but not
100 I'm sure she's in severalother comics. So I
will say this. I am 49% gay, soit's okay that I say this. This

(28:43):
is the first Superman whereClark was a lot hotter looking
than Superman.
Yeah, that was interesting.
Like, when he's walking throughthe crowd, one that dude is
tall. He'stall, good looking, but with the
messy hair and the glasses andeverything, I was like, Oh, this
guy is very attractive. And whenhe becomes Superman, I was like,
what did he do to his face?
White classes. I did not carefor the the Hypno classes.

(29:10):
I think that must be like athing that was written at some
point from the comics. But I'mlike, we could have forgotten
about that. Yeah, I don'tknow. I think it's funny. I
think it's stupid and funny andlike, it will diminish everyone
who says, I don't get it, yeah.
How come that nobody realizesit's the same guy? It's just a
really quick answer tothat, sure, yeah. Well, Superman
is in theaters still, no matter.

(29:36):
Probably yes. I just also wantto point out, while we're doing
this, that we're all wearingthese little lights on our
chest, because we are alsotesting some wireless
microphones, and this all worksout that I'm going to clear this
table off and we're going tohave a little more of a homey
feel, massively less cluttered.

(29:57):
You guys. I checked out ironheart. Yes, and the first three
episodes, I was like, I what? Idon't I'm gonna go back to
Wakanda forever and see what Imissed. And and when I pulled it
up on my Disney it said, continue watching. And I was
like, Oh, I don't think Ifinished it. So I said yes. And

(30:19):
it was still in the openingcredits. So I never seen so I
I'm going to talk about twothings here, Wakanda forever and
Ironheart. Wakanda forever, ofcourse, written and directed by
Ryan Coogler. Coogler, right, director of the it is a
very good movie that I just forwhatever reason, not wash. It's

(30:42):
not as good as the first blackpanther. I think they really
made a mistake not recastingBlack Panther because I think
he's just too important acharacter to let go. But the
main character from Ironheart isintroduced in this movie, and
the fact that she has built thiskind of Iron Man suit, and she's
a genius and all this stuff. Sothen I was like, oh, okay, I

(31:06):
think I know what's going on iniron. So I continued watching
that. I do have a problem withany character who is this
brilliant, who has shown thislevel of brilliance to the
world, and yet she's going toget kicked out of a school and
not immediately picked up by thebiggest corporations on the
planet and give it a very fatpaycheck because she is forced

(31:30):
into doing some kind ofnefarious things in iron heart
because she needs money. Yeah, okay, I'm like, You are Tony,
Stark level intelligence, and Ithink that there was another way
to get money, yeah, couldn't you just, like, invent
some dumb thing and then justget it marketed and out there
and make zillions off of, like, well, obviously she'd have to,

(31:50):
you know, invent, so that'sgoing to cost money, patent and
all that stuff. But what she'salready shown is that she
created a vibranium detector inWakanda forever seems useful,
and I'm like, Why wasn't shejust snatched up immediately?
So, so the premise falls apart.

(32:12):
The last three episodes I likedquite a bit more. And Eric, you
will be happy to know this is nolonger a spoiler. It's all over
the internet that Mephisto hasbeen nailed in this. And I
thought this is an odd place tobring in a supernatural
character. And then turns outhe's in the iron heart comics.
Is he really okay? Well, here wego. But in the end, I finished

(32:41):
the show, and I was like, thatwas not bad. That was certainly
better from She Hulk, orvery different than She Hulk,
for sure. I I was like, You, Ithink the first episode, or
maybe first two episodes, I waslike, in pain. I was like, this
show, I don't get it. It's not,I mean, it's shot well, clearly,
very con, you know, put togethergreat, but, like, I just didn't

(33:04):
like her character very much.
And honestly, she's notnecessarily my favorite
character in the show. She'smaking very dumb decisions.
She's very like loud and brashand in your face while making
dumb decisions. And I never likethat style of character.
However, after that, when itgets into the final couple

(33:27):
episodes, it's so good that itreally you that kind of initial
weirdness that I felt like justkind of all goes away. You've
got really cool charactershappening. You've got, like, the
introduction of magic that isreally well done. You know, her

(33:47):
dealing with loss in a very, Idon't know, like, human way that
we can all identify with. Andyou can really get why she has
this sort of PTSD stuff goingon. Yeah, I I really, really
liked it. By the end, I muchmore even than Loki season two,
because really only the lastepisode of two was that of that

(34:09):
was brilliant. This at leastgets there sooner, and it's not
as painful initially. Soends on a dark note. I was not,
I know.
I was like, You guys think youwere getting a season two maybe.
I don't know. I don't know ifthey are. Aren't there's, I
don't know what the viewingnumbers on it are, but it's

(34:29):
explain this to me. Maybe youguys can help me figure this
out. A lot of these TV shows, Ithink we're all agreed, could be
shortened by an episode or two.
What is the attraction to thisand Star Wars, that a series on
TV is better than a TV moviewith the same budget that's

(34:50):
maybe two and a half hours long, tells a tighter story that's
just exclusive to Disney. Plus, why can't we do just movies? I'm
not sure. Sure, because I wouldnormally my first thought when
you asked that, and then Irealized, no, that's not it. Is
that it keeps people watching, but that's not it, because you
you could just join for a month, and that's plenty of time to

(35:12):
watch any show they put out.
So how long is their free trial?
Because if it's two weeks, Imean, you can just pay
or you can just pay for them, just join and pay their if
you're only paying one month,it's like 12 bucks or 12 to 20
bucks. But mostof all, right, that, you know,
they they have these weirdrelease schedules. So they
release three episodes and thenthey release the other three
episodes the next week. Thenwhy? Why do we have to have six

(35:36):
hours or something when we wouldhave been fine with even if
it's, you know, three threehours.
I mean, I feel like this storyneeded more time than a feature
film to tell what it needed totell. But I also think they've
locked themselves into a stylethat they can't get out of. I
mean, once we started withwandavision, I think they just

(36:00):
you're like, Okay, this is whatwe're doing. People are
expecting these, like, small, what do they call it? TV series,
kind of mini series, yeah. Andso we're just going to keep that
up. Like, I haven't seen themreleasing for Star Wars or for
Disney, for Marvel, like minilike, TV movies.
No, yeah, true. But I watchedthe fan edit of the Obi Wan

(36:24):
series. Oh, I was like, Jesus isactually pretty good. And I
almost hated thatseries. I know there's a lot of
crap in that series.
No, there's, and there's plentyof, unfortunately, specifically
Star Wars. There's plenty ofseries in there that you could
have cut that down so much, ifnot not existing at all. Yeah?

(36:44):
And, I mean, what's the one withthe two twin girls,
Oracle, or something?
Yeah, awful. But if you'd madethat into a movie, maybe that
would have been fun. Yeah, yeah,I don't know you. Have you asked
a really good question. I wish Idefinitely the answer somehow,
but it's Yeah. I My only guessis that they're stuck in it, or

(37:07):
they want to keep people payingfor a year, and it's not about
one month. Maybe they're justlike, Okay, well, if they like
this show and they stuck aroundfor a month for that, they'll be
excited to stick around for thenext one, which will also be
coming out, you know, a monthafter that, or two months after
that, and then it'll be anothermonth long, I don't know, yeah,
probably some evil reason I amgoing to now they've talked a

(37:32):
bunch talk about Jurassic Parkrebirth. Yeah. I was really,
really psyched from thetrailers. I think that the
trailers just looked awesome tome. I love that guy from
bridgerton. I'm forgetting hisname, Scarlet Johansen, and in a
different kind of a role, seemedreally fun. It's totally fine. I

(37:56):
think I like it more than thelast trilogy, like I think it's
better than any of those films.
Heard that a lot. Yeah, peoplewho love Jurassic Park do like
this one. It's likethat, that haunted house
version,the haunted house version
definitely is the best amongstthose three. I think I like it
more than that one. It's prettygood. I think that they have

(38:16):
some really good storytelling, but there is some weird editing.
I don't always want to blame theeditor, but this clearly was the
editor's fuck up. There werescenes where, like, there's an
emotional conversation betweenScarlett Johansson, one of her
crew, on a boat, and they'resitting there talking back and
forth about their lives, andformally, the more intimate we

(38:39):
get in the edit, the closer weare, sure. But no, he just
wanted to pull back randomly andsit there. And it took forever.
And sometimes what they weresaying was very comical because
of the way it was said and theshot size it was in. And this
happened several times, especially in the first act. I
was like, Who is cutting this?

(39:03):
This is horrific. You have thefootage. I know you do because I
saw the other shot sizes. Like, there's no way you don't have
the footage. You were justchoosing this. And it feels
fucking weird, but I do thinkoverall, the story is pretty
fun. It's probably my secondfavorite. Oh, wow, that's cool.
I mean, if you think about it,there's actually not that.
There's the three, most recentthree, and then before that,

(39:25):
there's Jurassic Park, and thentwo and three. I don't remember,
because I was so young, but Idon't think they
were necessarily great.
Definitely they were fine.
Yeah, so I'd say it's definitelyworth checking out. It's really
fun. I love there's so muchdinosaur in it. Oh, my God. Oh
dinosaur. But, and end. Crazymonster dinosaurs. You guys can

(39:45):
fucking stop you know, we do notneed to keep making mutant,
genetically altered dinosaurs.
What are you gonna do go back toa Tyrannosaurus after you've had
a yes, titanosaurus, or whateverthey
call it. Tyrannosauruses are somuch fun. They're great. They're
scary. I'm totally down with a.
Really angry. They have a trendof source in this. They could
have just kept going with him.
That would have been fine. Butno, they there is a dinosaur in

(40:08):
here that strongly resembles theCloverfield monster. Oh no, it's
bad. It's real bad. So don't dothat, guys.
That is weird, like, as in size, too.
No, okay, no, not in the size, just the look, the like,
bulbous, like, yeah, yes, weird, stupid, looks stupid, yeah.
Continue my indie run filmgoing. And I went and saw

(40:32):
f1 excellent, another tiny film.
That's right, yes.
Director Joseph Kosinski, longtime listeners remember how
much I liked his Top GunMaverick. Oh, singer and the
stars, you know, Brad Pitt, Idid hear a funny story about it.
Apparently, Tom Cruise was upfor being that role, but then he

(40:52):
found out he wasn't going to beallowed to actually drive the f1
cars. Oh, they said, Nah, I'mout. Amazing, amazing. But this
is and heavier bar down. Seemslike it's been forever since
I've seen him in anything. Sowhat he's such a large part of.
And the other guy, Damus Idris,Who is man Fun, fun film, it is,

(41:16):
I can totally see peoplewatching this going well, you
know you knew exactly what wasgoing to happen almost every
step of the way, because you do.
I mean, Brad Pitt pays the youngkid or the old guy who, when he
was young, was going to be a bigstar, but then got in a wreck
that messed him up, but hisbuddy, Javier, wants to bring
him back, because the team he'sputting up in f1 has not won

(41:40):
anything at all for the season, and he wants to bring him in, so
maybe he'll score a point in thef1 race. And Samson plays the
young, super talented butheadstrong guy that he's
supposed to mentor, but has nointerest in being mentored, and
Brad really doesn't have a lotof interest in mentoring him

(42:02):
either. And Brad comes in andjust messes with the way they do
things, but every weird thing hetries works out. It's all that.
But who cares? It's so much fun.
And Dina loves race being Fordversus Ferraris, one of
her favorite films. So this isnot based on a true so

(42:22):
now, although something verysimilar happened in f1 like two
weeks ago with the ages and allthat stuff, but it's it's really
fun. The footage is amazing. Oneof the main drivers for f1 at
least one, was a producer on thefilm so it is really accurate.

(42:43):
They've got some nice cameos ofreal drivers, and I
heard that they followed like, the last f1 season, and they
were there for like, every racein everyone's business, like
getting cool shots that they'vecome in,
probably because it is veryreal. There's a phenomenal
series on Netflix that followsevery season of f1 and it's

(43:04):
incredibly well done. I'm prettysure they must have gone to,
like some of the people involvedin that show, and go, How do you
capture this ridiculously coolfootage? And got all that stuff.
And so it was, if I haven'ttalked to any hardcore f1 fans,
see how they feel about it, butI'm a casual f1 fan, and I
thought it was a hell of a lotof fun, cool.

(43:32):
I had a thought, and it's gone.
Oh, no, like being 60, why don'twe take a break, and if we if I
get it again, I will bring it.
Bring it. I'll come back.
Oh, I know one. I'll do one foryou. Then at a time, it's
Superman movie. Going back tothat, I loved the subtle use of
the original theme. One of thebattles I was like they did. Oh,

(43:54):
back to the credit. Yeah, it'sreally cool.
There you go. No, still didn'tget it. Okay, let's
take a break, guys, and thenwhen we come back, we are
talking about public domainmovies,

(44:17):
robots, and you control theirevery move behold by four copter
turbo and side hill, the gobos invasion has begun.

(44:42):
Go Tonka, and we are back, guys, this was
my pick, and it's not public, though. Main movies. It's movies
with characters who have comeinto the public domain. So we've

(45:03):
been seeing just a rash ofthese, Mickey Mouse, Winnie the
Pooh, all these movies wherepredominantly Disney characters,
the full experience of this isonly horror films. Yeah, it's
not like we are seeing anotherPeter Pan movie, right? We are
seeing now a Peter Pan horrormovie, exactly. It's very weird.

(45:26):
So I just thought it would befun to kind of much to Vanessa
chagrin, look into some of thesefeelings and see if we can find
ones that we like. So I will gofirst, if you don't mind. Oh, by
all means, five minutes on thebuzzer, and I'm talking about
screen boat. Welcome aboard toStaten Island. This boat is

(45:52):
cursed. We're all gonna die. Yousaid that last week and the week
before, I heard storiesabout a monster that lurked in
the underbelly of the fairySteamboat Willie,
that's gonna make one fucked upcartoon someday. Come

(46:16):
quick. Everything is not cool.
We have a huge rodent problems.
What the fuck are you? It waslike a demonic rodent with
shorts and hat. Maybe you wantsome cheese. Our world is
fucked, but really squirrel,it's the happiest place on

(46:41):
earth.
It is a small world, after allof it from 2025 obviously based
on Steamboat Willie, directed bySteven laurt, who has 27
credits, lots of shorts andindie features. He did something

(47:03):
called trials of ember, daughterof legends and bury me twice. It
was written by Stephen and Well,Stephen Lamar and also Matthew
Garcia Dunn. Matthew Garcia Dunnis in he's written a bunch of
video game stuff. So he's doneMarvel's, Midnight suns video

(47:24):
game, Silent Hill ascension. Hewas a big part of the animation
department at Pixar. He didstuff like Monsters University
in messaging. Wow. Sorry, TylerPosey has 59 credits, tons of TV
in small parts of movies, butdefinitely recognized from 100

(47:45):
episodes of Teen Wolf as ScottMcCall, wow. Also, this is David
Howard Thornton, oh, that was 26credits, but is only known as
art the clown in the terrifiermovies. And Kaylee Hyman is in
this. She was in a man calledOtto. And she is Brooke in
terrifier two and three. Also inthis is a bunch of comedians and

(48:08):
friends of filmmakers and stufflike this. So Joe DeRosa, Brian,
scholar, Jesse Cove, Anthony eWilliams, you guys scream boat,
I picked probably the best ofthese, which is why I wanted to
talk about screenboat isbasically the story of a motley
group of Staten Islandfairygoers Catching the last
fairy of the night and thehorror that descends upon them.

(48:30):
So when the movie starts, we areintroduced to two mechanics
working deep in the innards ofthe fairies massive engine, and
one of them tells the legend ofWillie, a mouse that was on the
ferry many, many years ago. Themass was very friendly and
happy, but something must havehappened, because he turned very
bad. And right on cue, we see avery familiar shadow on the

(48:53):
wall. We realize that Willie isstill on the ferry, and he has
ridiculously round ears on topof his head. From here, we're
introduced to a couple of theregular workers on the ferry,
like radio operator Mike orCindy, who's a volunteer who
goes around and make sure thatthe homeless people on the ferry
are alive and not strung out oncrack. And we also meet some of

(49:13):
the ferry goers, including agroup of young women on a
birthday shindig where they'vebeen bar hopping all night. We
also meet a young girl and hermother on their way back home
and various deck hands officersand other passengers. We also
meet Willie, who has beenmutated into a two foot tall
mouse with a little hat andshorts and pictures. Wow, it's

(49:37):
actually a fairly decent makeup.
He is being played by the dudethat plays earth the clown. So
he's got these big facialreactions and movements and
stuff. So Willie starts takingpeople out one by one in fairly
hilarious and gory fashion, always kind of bouncing and

(49:58):
whistling, you know, like.
SteamboatWillie, yeah, there you go.
And the effects are actuallypretty decent. The Gore is, you
know, right there with terrifierGore, holy shit. And it's over
the top, yeah. There's also thisreally fantastic animated

(50:18):
sequence that shows SteamboatWillie before he was mutated,
and what happened to him? Andit's revealed that Willie was a
science experiment. And thescience, the scientists
experimenting on him is the maddoctor from the 1933 short film,
The mad doctor, which is aDisney short film that most of
us would remember. It's veryscary. And this guy's kind of

(50:40):
got, like, a goofy the characterkind of look, but he's got a
big, huge handlebar mustache. Ifyou saw him, you'd be like, Oh
yeah, I do remember that creepycartoon. Wow. That one also fell
into public domain this year, sothat's why he was in there. That
tracks. There's also some prettybold hints at what Disney was
doing back in the day, and thismovie is way better than the

(51:01):
terrifier series. It is a triedand true Friday the 13th
knockoff, including a climaxwhere our final girl has to
dress up like Minnie Mouse totry and lure Willie into her
dress. I just had a blast withthis whole thing. Don't set up
the mid credit or don't skip onthe credit scene, which sets up

(51:22):
a sequel, of course, tagline, full screen ahead trivia. The
Walt Disney Company retainsexclusive rights to its own
Mickey Mouse universe. Thesteamboat Lily version of the
iconic character, entered thepublic domain on January 1 2024
one day later, scream,it's got a box office gross of

(51:45):
$393,011 and I lovedthis. The five women who are
celebrating the birthday are alldressed similarly to Disney
princesses. So they're allwearing their signature colors
and everything, and they allhave slightly altered versions

(52:05):
of that princess's name. Sothere's Cindy who looks like
Cinderella, there's Ariana likeAriel. There's jazzy who looks
like Jasmine. Wow. There isBella looks like Belle from
Beauty and the Beast, and thereis Rory. Rory, I forgot Aurora
is the name of sleeping there'salso a bunch of references to

(52:30):
songs in the dialog. So one ofthe party girls is saying, you
know, it's a whole new worldcrew members introducing them,
saying, Be my guest. So stufflike that. It's really a clever
little thing. And the best partis the boat used for filming is
the decommissioned Staten IslandFerry that was purchased in 2022

(52:51):
by Saturday night. Live players,Colin Jost, oh shit, wow. This
is a fun little movie you coulddo. And I have a lot worse than
screen boat, wow, that soundsthat sounds fun,
yeah, yeah. And that was one ofthe more recent ones I knew.
Okay, yeah, that tracks. Thatdefinitely tracks. I think

(53:14):
that we're going to see more ofthese, and they're going to be
better than that were,I suspect so too, based off all
the trailers,How about yours though, Vanessa
was yours amazing.
Talk about how much I love thispick from you, Kelly, this
subject, it's my, definitely oneof my favorite that we've ever

(53:34):
had to do. And I did not drag myheels until, literally
yesterday, despite having one,I went with Winnie the Pooh,
Blood and Honey from 2023you know, you're the first
person I ever shown this placeto Why am I so special? Because
soon we'll be Christopher andMary Lovell. You should be

(53:56):
close. Now we're not going tofind them. We will Pooh piglet
Eeyore. We were friends for manyyears. No out there,
Christopher, we need to leavenow. I really need to find out

(54:16):
what's happening. Okay? Dothis place is kind of cold, and

(54:37):
the GCR is a pool. Do we need togo some side this.

(55:07):
We used to be friends. Why heturned this? Please.
I would have never left lastminute. I

(55:35):
Oh, not because it was gonna beany good, because I thought they
would all be bad, and I didn'thave to pay money for this one.
You paid for it, though. Oh,sorry, go ahead, I did
so. This one had a budget of100k box office of 7.7 million,
which is why we're in thesituation we're in. It was
produced, written, directed andedited by Reese freak

(55:56):
Waterfield, who has nine creditsto his name. It's both Winnie
the Pooh films, plus firenadoKilling Tree. I don't know if
that's much like the children'sbook or not. Also produced 32
films, including Easter Bunnymassacre. Chris Jack Frost,
ratha Van Helsing, Croc, PeterPan's Neverland nightmare and
Bambi the reckoning starringNicole. Four credits, nothing

(56:21):
you need to worry about. AndMaria Taylor, five credits also
nothing you need to worry about.
These are Nobodies, but thatdoesn't mean they suck. It's
just the guys. Okay. Anyways, when Christopher Robin was
young, he met and befriended agroup of anthropomorphic
creatures, owl, rabbit, Eeyore,Piglet and poo in the 100 Acre
Woods. When Christopher Robinwent off to college to become a

(56:43):
doctor, they were left alone andstarved. Eventually, from the
lack of food, they ate Eeyorefor their actions. They
developed a hatred towardshumans, especially Christopher
Robin, and they vowed never tospeak again, except for kind of
sometimes in the film, so Iguess it's fine. Five years
later, Christopher Robin returnsto the 100 Acre Woods as an

(57:05):
adult along with his fianceMary, and wants to introduce her
to his beloved friends. However, they discover, instead of a
nice, little cutesy childhood, Idon't know, Haven a like hunting
lodge with like campers, likemetal camper vans and so I don't
know, and jars of honey coveredin blood. They hide from the

(57:26):
very much changed poo. Butpiglet managed his to get Mary
and snaps her neck and poo, andPiglet strap up Christopher
Robin and torture him.
Meanwhile, Maria, a traumatizedwoman who had a stalker at some
point, goes on vacation with hergirl gals renting a cabin in the

(57:47):
woods while there, Pooh andPiglet begin to stalk and kill
them one by one, and eventually, the girls find Christopher Robin
and release him, ending in afinal showdown between
Christopher Robin and Pooh. Sothis really loves to this movie.
Really want to bring back thatwhole trope of murdering naked,

(58:07):
sexy women's who have ripped offtheir shirt somehow cool.
Psyched for it. Thanks. Guyslove it on the girls vacation.
Five of the girls have long fiveout of sorry, four out of five
of them have long brown hair.
This is not at all confusing, and I didn't know I had no
confusion at the very end, figuring out who was who, and

(58:30):
whether or not our lead was evenstill alive. They also killed
off the blonde and the redhead, who were additional to this
first off. So I was veryconfused. One had glasses, but I
thought maybe she took them offand put them on the Christopher
Robin stuff is fine. I thinkthat's a really good setup for
this story. The Videographyactually is really good. It's a
very well shot film. The maincharacter, girl is confusing. I

(58:55):
don't know why we care abouther. It's just sort of stupid.
Her trauma is also kind ofstupid, and the way she's
dealing with it is kind ofstupid. It's fine. Final girl,
great like that they it reallyis poo and Piglet. It's not guys
and masks who are serialkillers. It's meant to actually
be these characters. I thinkthat's the right choice.
However, they look so dumb, butGod, the effects are terrible.

(59:20):
Pooh looks like such a likepooched out. Oh gosh. Just looks
like he needs to get in aworkout or two. I don't know how
he's hunting down and murderingall these people and not getting
a little tone. Christopher Robinhas a good spotter. The drawings
that I've heard great thingsabout I think they look cheap as
fuck, and the sketches have verybad layering, and the bottom of

(59:42):
the sketches are bleedingthrough the top, so it just all
looks janky and whatever.
Anyway, so trivia, I'm gonna runout of time. Production of the
film became possible in 2022after aaeons novel Winnie the
Pooh from 1926 entered thepublic domain in the US, which.
Marked the first appearance ofWinnie the Pooh Piglet and

(01:00:02):
Christopher Robin. The film'scharacters could not, however,
resemble the Disney versions whodebuted in 1966 and are
protected by copyright. The filmwas initially shot in just eight
days. Poo and Piglet masks wereproducts made by the American

(01:00:23):
prosthetic mask manufacturingcompany immortal masks, the
friendo Honey Bear and Winniethe Pooh. For Winnie the Pooh
and hog silicone mask for pigletwere used. I I hate the look of
piglets, so much. Poo is bad,but piglet is terrible. The best
piece of trivia I found was itwon all five of its five

(01:00:44):
nominations at the GoldenRaspberry Awards, marking
marketing the largest sweep inthe ceremonies history, tied
with the postman from 1997 it'sthe first British film to win a
Golden Raspberry Award for WorstPicture. That's
a staggering amount ofattention, though, for a movie
like that to end up gettingraspberry. Finally,
genre films getting raspberry.
Wow, we've come so far.

(01:01:09):
Yeah, this, this movie is reallybad. It's pretty rough. I would
have spared you that Iwas gonna do a second one, but
it cost more to rent. It wouldhave been worth it. And I didn't
want to I didn't want to skipthe court. I didn't want to come
in not knowing where the storywas at. You
would have not been lost at all.
You would miss nothing. I wouldhave done the Peter Pan movie

(01:01:29):
that you suggested, Kelly, itwas a $13 rental. What? Yeah, I
was like, hell no, I'm notspending that much money on
this. So I was very angry. Ifound, like, one other one that
was free, but between the two, Iwas like, I'm just gonna go with
the poo movie.
I've only seen the trailer forthat Peter Pan one, but this guy

(01:01:52):
that like a positive rub tomatoscore. That's holy. I
was like, I'm gonna have towatch this one. Yeah. I mean, it
has a really good I like thesetup of the kidnapping kids,
yeah, yeah. Like, that's cool.
Sounds good, alrighty, yeah, sure. Well, you
guys know I've got a weirdyou'll watch anything. Well,
that's true too. But I also havea weird fascination with this

(01:02:16):
sub, sub guitar, or whatever thehell that's being created in the
last few years.
So this time, I went withPopeye's revenge from this year.
It all started with a scream.
You know, he's coming when thefog rolls in. It was 15 years
ago. The little boy they calledPopeye drowned. Let's see if

(01:02:39):
Popeye's ghost wants to playwith Hey,
I think I just saw someone.
What are you doing driving downhere? There's nothing down here,
apart from abandoned old house, yeah, Popeye's house. My parents
owned the place.

(01:03:02):
Now that is an ice Wow.

(01:03:28):
It's coming to get you. Whereare you? Oh,

(01:03:52):
he's back. I thought, oh, it'sBritish. It might be a little
better, because I like a lot ofBritish horror films that aren't
good, but are, at least a lot of them
are British. Though, mine wasBritish,
the Winnie Pooh one's British.
Oh, I've totally missed that. Itleft such an impression on me.

(01:04:15):
Yes, because a lot of the same,it's like a new hammer has been
born. Okay, definitely not that.
Anyways, this is directed byWilliam steed, who did children
of the night. I Know What YouDid Last Christmas, so we're

(01:04:36):
talking pedigree here. HarryBaxley wrote it. He's wrote fair
to them all. Hook mouse boatmassacre, mouse of horrors.
Pinklet Cinderella's curse. Heseems to be the go to writer for
several of these. And of course,BC Seeger, the creator of
Popeye, starring Emily bagliner, her only feature you. And Connor

(01:05:01):
Powells, who was in Winnie thePooh Blood and Honey two, ah,
mega twisters, spiders on aplane. Oh, my God, and the bad
nun three. And also Daniel Rand, who was in Winnie the Pooh Blood
and Honey, conjuring the plasticsurgeon two, three blind mice,

(01:05:22):
and fairest of them all. Sothey've got their core,
yeah, they got their group.
Movie starts with what lookslike slightly animated
storyboards of a scene thatthere's no way they could have
afforded shoot. Yeah, that'sfair. Got some teens showing up
to shoot a film or video segmentabout the burning down and death

(01:05:45):
of Popeye strangled so hard hiseyes popped out. Oh, that's not
Popeye, but they saw a fog risesup, and then they realized when
the fog comes in, that's whenPopeye strikes for his revenge.
And of course, these two, alsobeing horror movie, decided to

(01:06:05):
have sex in the room. Popeye wasburned in,
as you can imagine, it endedwell for both of them.
The third person stayed up toget sound while these guys go
off to have fun, and it'sdispatched by Popeye. It is a a

(01:06:27):
truly unsuspenseful Hide andSeek scene is running from
Popeye. So 15 minutes into thisstaggeringly long, 80 minute
movie, and the story resetsentirely with a group of all new
characters, group of kids comingto the this Popeye house that
the one the lead lady's parentsown, apparently, because the

(01:06:50):
first one seemed to almost belike this weird factory with
this giant basement, and nowit's this cabin in the woods,
more or less with a hot tub.
Because, you know, it's likekind of movie. Apparently, every
character in this movie has anaffair with another character in
this movie that are travelingtogether. There's only like six
people. This is not a group, anysane people. The idea is the

(01:07:13):
lead lady is bringing herfriends to help her work on the
cabin to make it ready for likeher b and b or some shit like
that. No sane person would bringthese idiots to work on a cabin.
They're all useless people, andshe is terrible at trying to get
people to do things. It's allvery annoying. But the kind of
re there's some kill scenes arefine. It's kind of a recreation

(01:07:40):
of the most famous Italianzombie killing somebody with a
door and a shard, but the wrongeye. It's like, you know, then
that scene you're seeing it goright in the eye. This one, you
can't see the eye, so it's theother side of the nose. I'm
like, Yeah, well, FX budgetproblem there, huh? Yeah.

(01:08:05):
Somehow the parents, whileletting her kid, their kids go
here and do this thing, knowthat that's where this killer
was. Thing is maybe stillaround. Maybe he's not, but the
parents find out he is back. Sothis place that they took, well,
12 hours to drive through in theUK, which amounts to almost end

(01:08:29):
to end, their parents get therein like half an hour after they
decide, we have to go rescue ourkids. It's only they're there
this one was really just kind ofboring. The and they did, like
yours and yours, to a lesserextent, leaned into what they

(01:08:53):
were. Yeah, it's almost they'retrying to create a whole new
Popeye. Yeah. I mean, I wouldhave loved a line where somebody
goes, it's Popeye, another guygoes, the Sailor Man, or just
and it would fit the stupidityof this show. That would have
been the line of themovie. But did he have the big
forearm?

(01:09:15):
Yeah, he kind of looked good. Helooked cool, actually.
But, yeah, this was produced byITN, the company behind the
Hoovers. Yeah.
I mean, it's the same garden asthey call it. Oh, my God, we
got Pinocchio Bambi and, ofcourse, the Winnie the Pooh

(01:09:37):
blood and horny films.
But apparently Popeye will notbe part of that universe. Why
not thethis film was shot in nine days,
which seems generous. I wouldhave gone for five. Would have
been my guess, but this was asmuch as I stupidly enjoyed,
especially blood, honey, two, Ithought that was a perfectly.

(01:09:58):
Except fun film to watch thisone was just kind of it missed
the mark on what makes doingthese things fun, which is
making fun of the originalintellectual property, right? So
there's about four or five ofthese Popeye films out. Maybe
try another one of them. Feelthe desire. Cheers. Louise, so,

(01:10:19):
oh, well, how do they makethem so fast? I mean, I get that
there's like, one ready to go,but there's like five ready to
go. Well, I'mguessing it's a different, a
group of different, yeah, likethere's several, because the
other two is her, this one's UK,and the other, I think the other
two are us,yeah, yeah. And they know that
they can pre sell things for,you know, somebody, yeah,

(01:10:43):
somebody's gonna rent them andyield on
and so, you know, even if theypre sell it for $150,000
that's probably, you know, Idon't know what mine costs,
Yeah, something like that. Yeah, and they're so interchangeable.
I watched this a while back, thinking I was watching one of

(01:11:05):
the other Popeye movies. And I'mlike, Oh, this is the one I
actually picked to watch. Oh,well, I guess I watch it along
in advance, and didn't bother towatch the Popeye once. It's
like, we'll see how it goes. ButI did see death of Snow White.
Oh, the localYeah, finally, available for
rent. Yeah, it's availableall over the place, Apple,

(01:11:27):
Amazon, all those. And I cameinto it with a slightly wrong
mindset, which I wish I'd comein differently. About halfway
through, I've adjusted it andenjoyed it a lot more. It's a
lot more tongue in cheek than Iwas expecting. I was expecting a
little more of a serious tale, because the trailer for it is
fairly solidly dark and dim, butit's a lot of fun, a lot better

(01:11:54):
than what we were watching here.
And just and gets theintellectual property and uses
the mirror properly and doessome it does some fun stuff. It
is, if you're indie film, enjoyable. It's definitely worth
watching. It's really, reallywell realized and overall, very

(01:12:17):
enjoyable. Knowing it's littlemore satirical than it is
serious. Ithink two things, I think you're
mentioning that because that's alocal one, though, sorry, yeah,
not too far from here. But also, that one is based on an old
groom's fairy tale, right? Yes,so a Disney public
right? No, no, this, yeah, thisone that was done to coincide
with the massive flop right ofSnow White that apparently is

(01:12:41):
not a very good movie, and cameout and subsequently
went, kind of me now, andbecause Vanessa had reviewed it,
I decided towatch it Snow White. Okay, I
haven't seen Snow White. Oh, Ithought you were telling me
about the thedwarves and then not being
human.

(01:13:01):
Oh, I'm just saying that off ofthe trailer and stuff I saw. Oh,
yeah, I scanned through it andeverything, and
looked pretty bad. Oh, really, the death of Snow White has real
littlepeople. Oh, that's what I heard.
The big selling point was theygot heart so little people,
right? Well, for some pretty good watch, very
cool.

(01:13:22):
Well, you guys, I had a lot offun with this, and I appreciate
you playing along with me.
I still had fun with it. I mean, the movie I watched was
entertaining enough, because Iexpect nothing from these films.
But as far as sitting here andrecommending it to people, I'm
going to be alittle more it could have worse,
but I was pretty frustrated.

(01:13:46):
You'rereally gonna hate when I decide
we're all doing asylum films.
There you go from the asylum Imean,
I can pick a bad sci fi movie. Iactually have done, worked on
several asylum films viaTechnicolor. What
we're okay. We need to pick thissubject much sooner than later.
Yeah, no. I mean, like, workedon, like, I reviewed it and then

(01:14:07):
changed anything that neededchanging for UK TV. But
how fun? Yeah. Well, then Eric, you have the next
Yes, yes, I do well over themany years, longtime listeners
will remember the shellackingVanessa gets for her choice on
road movies we did a long timeago, which took almost entirely

(01:14:30):
in place of a fieldit's next to a very important
road.
Hey, I didn't give you the shitabout it.
I figured I might offer mayberedemption moment where you can
have a road movie.
Road. Define movie. Definemovie. Movie,

(01:14:50):
a movie that takes place mostlyon a road, and people are
traveling from one point toanother in a car, on
motorcycles, or, you know, Iguess. You could be pulling a
RV, or ithas to be gasoline. I'm already
gonna be angry.
Maybe a sailboat on wheels, Idon't know. Like, oh, like, Oh,

(01:15:11):
sure.
All right, I gotta think thisone through her. I'm gonna give
it a little more. We'll see.
We'll see where we land.
Fantastic. Well, so that's theend of this episode, this part
