Speaker 1 (00:07):
Thank you so much for
joining us on Super Bracket
Bros.
My name is Jay, your host andyour personal brrrracketologist.
This is the podcast that takesyour favorite fictional
characters from across themultiverse and throws them into
a tournament to find out justwho is the best of the best.
Today we have what our APvoters suggest should be our
closest match, with our 8 vs 9seed, with Bowser vs the
(00:30):
colossal Titan And, of course,as always, sitting across from
me, i have my co-host and yourcolossal, koopa Elias Stokes.
How you doing today?
Speaker 2 (00:49):
Eli, i'm doing well.
The shell is very big and veryannoying.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
You're not enjoying
the Koopa lifestyle.
Is that what you're saying?
Speaker 2 (00:59):
No, no, because I
thought, oh, i'm colossal.
Mario won't be able to stomp onme, but Nintendo, they keep
giving him power ups that makehim colossal.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
So I just get stomped
on.
Are you saying that there's aprotagonist antagonist bias
going on here from Nintendo, that they don't favor their
villains for some reason?
Speaker 2 (01:20):
No, koopa's not good.
Bowser is a terrible boss, soI'm getting blindside from both
sides.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
Oh, I have to pay for
my shell replacement Jay Mario
takes all my coins.
Wow.
So you get.
Wow.
I mean, this is just like theclassic American experience.
You're getting it from thegovernment and from like thieves
on the street?
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Yeah, but the thieves
, the hero, man, garbage.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
Thank you so much for
having joined us on today's
episode.
Today we are talking FuryBowser from Bowser's Fury versus
the Colossal Titan from Attackon Titan As a first round
episode.
How today's episode is going tobreak down is, well, we have a
couple of guests to introduceand get to know.
Then the bulk of the first halfis going to be getting to know
(02:14):
our fighters today and then, ofcourse, the back half is going
to be who would win in a fightbetween Fury Bowser and the
Colossal Titan.
Like I said, we have a coupleof guests to introduce, starting
off part one of two parts ofhaving affable chat on in two
episodes in a row.
That is right If you're notfamiliar with affable chat.
(02:35):
Affable chat is me and you guysfavorite movie podcast that we
get to go on all the time andtalk about just everything, from
everything all at once, all theway to Jurassic Park.
We always enjoy going on,always enjoy their banter, their
critiques, their thinking, their thought process on movies.
It's always a joy to get tolisten to affable chat.
It's why we are honored to haveJoey on today's episode.
(02:57):
How are you doing today, joey?
Speaker 4 (02:58):
I'm doing great.
Thanks for having me on, jay.
It's a pleasure to be here.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
How are you feeling
about today's episode?
Speaker 4 (03:03):
I'm feeling pretty
good.
I'm not a huge, i'm not anAttack on Titan fan I've barely
watched the show but I loveBowser and these characters are
interesting to talk about, soI'm excited to be here.
I feel like this is going to bethe most objective I've ever
been on Super Bracket Bros.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Wow, that's quite the
claim.
We'll see at the end howobjective you're feeling Once we
put Bowser to the test.
Are you really going to stayobjective?
We'll find out.
But we have one more guest tointroduce today, the other guest
today, i mean, also we're goingback to back episodes.
Last episode we had the WaitFor It podcast and this episode
(03:41):
we have the Wait For It podcast.
On The other half today, theWait For It podcast if you're
not familiar, if you haven'tgone, check it out the hundred
times that I have suggested youto do so is the best pop culture
podcast on the internet whereyou're going to find anime
reviews, you're going to findsuggestions for, i mean, it's
called Netflix and Phil, butit's just Apple TV, you know
(04:02):
promo all day long.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
It really is.
Thank you for calling that out.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
Which I'm okay with
because Apple TV is fantastic.
but that's right.
We are being joined by one, mrEric Almighty How you doing
today, eric.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
I am doing great,
doing fantastic.
I'm ready for this episode.
I have been looking forward toit and it was nice, you know, to
see Phil come away with likeback to back wins.
You know he's on a streak,positive streak.
I'm looking to rebound from apretty tough loss the last time
I came off first loss, hopefullyonly So really really looking
(04:38):
forward to this.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
I want to say the
head to head, like records of
the Way For It.
Guys are probably my favoritesubplot of Super Bracket Bros.
It's something I always lookforward to developing.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
Gotta keep it going.
But I'm glad that you'reexcited for today's episode, but
I want to give our audience alittle bit of a chance to get to
know the both of you a littlebit more.
So, joey, let's start with you.
If you could live the day inthe life of a fictional
character, who would?
Speaker 4 (05:07):
it be.
Okay, jay.
So this question is a littledifferent than the other ones
you've asked me, because I feellike this is a little more
personal.
So I really kind of struggledto find an answer.
I think most people wouldgravitate toward like a
superhero, not just because thegeneral theme of this show, but
because it's also really cool tohave superpowers.
But I'm not really convincedthat this would be much fun.
(05:28):
After all, with great powercomes great responsibility, and
most of our popular heroes don'treally seem to be having a
great time And when we tune into watch their story something
terrible is happening to them.
Even though they have godlikepowers, they just seem kind of
miserable.
So maybe we should go in adifferent direction.
If I wanted superpowers, iwould want the flashes powers,
(05:49):
but the flash has ethics and amoral duty to protect the
stability of time Like pathetic.
But what about Ia Barton, alsoknown as the reverse flash?
He has all the flashes powers, but he has no limits.
Time is like silly putty in hishands and he bends the
multiverse to his whim.
But I feel like this doesn'treally answer the spirit of the
(06:09):
question.
Because the truth is, jay, ifyou were to give me Ia Barton's
life for a day, it wouldn't befor just one day.
First, how are you going tocatch me to put me back in my
mortal podcasting body?
Speaker 2 (06:21):
It would be
impossible.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
I would be hiding
between moments, traveling to
the far past and distant future, leaving no trace.
But even if you could catch me,to a time traveler like Thon, a
day is an infinite amount oftime.
Seconds can stretch intodecades if you know what you're
doing.
And with the vast powers at mydisposal, my every whim could be
fulfilled.
God may have taken six days tocreate the universe, but I can
(06:45):
rip it to pieces and just one Ah, but no, i don't think power is
the way to go here.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
Jay, don't excuse my
French, but don't ask me that
fucking question next.
Speaker 4 (07:03):
I don't want to
answer.
I don't want to answer afterthat.
That was nuts.
I'm not done here, so I don'tthink power is the way to go
here.
Who knows what kind ofelaborate prison of my own
hubris those losers at TeamFlash have cooked up for me.
They may not have muchimagination, but they're not
stupid.
No, i think I would want tolive my one day in the life of a
(07:26):
chill guy, a guy that reallyhas it all figured out.
Every day is kind of the same, but every day is full of
excitement, friendship andmystery, and at the end of my
one day I can sit back, have asnack with my dog and be content
with a job well done.
Any guesses of who this is?
Speaker 1 (07:44):
Are you going with
Shaggy?
Speaker 4 (07:47):
That's right, I would
live my one day as Shaggy from
Scooby-Doo.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
No that's amazing.
Every day we see in Shaggy'slife follows a very similar
pattern but it's never boring.
Speaker 4 (07:59):
He is constantly
running in mortal terror, but
the dangers are largelyimaginary and toothless.
You get to hang out with yourbest friends and go to cool
places and meet cool guest starswho always say your
catchphrases.
Plus, you spend all day withthe most iconic good boy of all
time, sharing snacks, sharingadventures.
It's a pretty sweet gig.
Look, we all know Shaggy's dealHe's getting high in the van
(08:19):
with a dog.
I could do that.
The thing about Shaggy is thepressure is so off.
Fred has to be the leader, daphne has to look great, velma
has to be the brains.
No one wants to hear what thedog thinks.
If I was to replace Shaggy fora day in the Mystery Machine,
the expectations would be superlow and the rest of the team
wouldn't suffer from Shaggy'sabsence.
It's a low interference, highlyentertaining ride.
(08:39):
The thing that clinches thisfor me is that Mr Gang is doing
really good work.
Shaggy is out there taking outpetty capitalists and bringing
life and wonder to ancientstructures.
He's part of the candle in thedark against the demon-haunted
world, and that's what I'mreally looking for when I'm
missing in my real life Thechance to do good, to use
science, reason and fun to shinea light where others don't dare
(09:02):
tread, to make the world alittle less scary and to punish
those who hide in fear, hide inthe dark and thrive on fear.
Scooby-doo is about showingthat the supernatural is a tool
used by the powerful to controlthe rest of us.
Shaggy isn't anything special, but he's still dedicated himself
to fighting the good fightthrough collective action and
real bravery, standing in thepath of barbarism.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
Joey, it sounds like
you're about to abandon your
life to go be Shaggy I hope thatI didn't persuade you to
abandon your family and go livein a van and try to solve
mysteries.
Wow, all the way from the highsof Reverse Flash, all the way
(09:46):
down to, also, the highs ofShaggy and Scooby Wow, that's
quite the journey you took us on, yeah.
Speaker 4 (09:53):
I hope you enjoyed
that I did.
I thoroughly did.
No, I'd like to unlearn all ofthat.
I'd like to unknow you a littlebit.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
If we could do a
Reverse Questionnaire on
unknowing him or anybody else, that'd be great.
That is nuts.
That is nuts And Jay.
I didn't get a question inadvance so I wasn't able to
write up basically a full bookchapter of a response.
That was amazing.
I'm never going to talk to that.
(10:24):
Nothing I ever do from thispoint on will tell anything that
just happened.
I think it's best that we moveon from it.
Speaker 1 (10:34):
Don't pretend.
If I had given you a week, thatyou would have written a page
essay.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
For me, it doesn't
matter what you're going to get,
and now I'm nervous.
Speaker 4 (10:47):
My palms are sweaty.
Speaker 3 (10:49):
Have you ever tried
to answer a question with sweaty
palms?
It doesn't work.
It was weak, exactly, oh gosh.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
I mean.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
I really don't intend
for this introduction section
to turn into some pseudo rapbattle.
I don't know what you expected.
Speaker 4 (11:06):
I don't know what you
expected.
I feel like I've dictated.
I feel like I've telegraphedthis to you, jay.
I don't know what you expectedfrom me.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
Listeners came in
expecting Fieri Bowser fighting
Colossal Titan.
What they actually got was EricAlmighty fighting Joey from
affable chat Yeah.
Speaker 3 (11:23):
You know that was the
battle that was coming, Oh gosh
.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
So, eric, let's toss
it over to you.
I know that's a lot to live upto, but I believe in you.
You know there's a reason Ididn't have a question for you
today, because I've asked youall the questions that I've
generated.
So, I have complete faith inyou, so I want to know you know,
do you have a favoritefictional weapon of all time?
Speaker 3 (11:49):
I do, and it's a
boring-ass answer.
That's why I'm so disappointedAnd how great that was.
Yeah, it's definitely alightsaber Like that, i know
it's an easy answer, but I was aStar Wars kid.
I can't tell you how many timesI pretended to have a lightsaber
in my hands and I reallyrealized how much it was like
(12:13):
the weapon of choice for me,because when I went to Disney
just a few weeks ago maybe amonth ago we went to Hollywood
Studios and I was this close tobuying a lightsaber One of those
very expensive.
You got to make an appointmentto go get it made.
Speaker 2 (12:30):
Oh man, Lightsabers
at.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
Disney because it was
just so cool.
You know they were makingdroids, they were making
lightsabers, the rides arestellar the Rise of the
Resistance ride, by the way, oneof the best rides I've ridden
in quite some time.
And again it's just Star Wars, like that whole environment,
that whole vibe, it's amazing.
So, yeah, i'm going to go withthe easy choice, but it is
(12:53):
nostalgic for me the lightsaber.
So there you go, little pieceof my childhood.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
What color is your
lightsaber?
Speaker 3 (13:00):
What color?
Honestly, I've always likedgreen.
Blue is the normal one.
You know, Mace Windu's got thepurple, the red's the sith, I
don't know.
green, just something about itscreams like that's your real
Jedi.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
when you get the
green lightsaber, That's the way
I feel, i know of thelightsabers that you speak of
and, man, that's tempting,that's tempting.
So I applaud you, sir, actually, for not throwing more money in
Disney's pocket.
Speaker 3 (13:31):
No, literally, i'm
not even kidding.
I walked up and I was like, hey, do you guys do the lightsabers
here?
They're like, yeah, younormally got to make an
appointment, but if you comeback in 30 minutes I can fit you
in.
Speaker 4 (13:39):
I was like oh no, and
then I just I was hoping you
were going to say no, i stoodaround for 29 minutes
Speaker 2 (13:46):
right in the area and
I was like I can't do this.
Speaker 3 (13:50):
And honestly only for
the fact that I would have no
reason for it, like I havenowhere to.
Really I don't want to spendthat much money to just put it
up.
Doesn't get used or looked at,really Like I'm not going to
whip it out every now and then.
That would be for company.
Speaker 2 (14:05):
Hey guys, look, no,
that's not how that's going to
work.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
I'm glad, Eric.
thank you for sharing.
Speaker 3 (14:13):
Yeah, yes, we can, we
can move on now You have
permission.
No problem You don't have tohave to take it on.
You're a bowser colossal.
Let's do this.
Speaker 1 (14:26):
So now let's talk
about our fighters.
Let's get to know them a littlebit more.
Let's start with Bowser, theking of the Koopas.
Bowser is one of the mostfamous video game characters of
all time and needs a littleintroduction, but I will try my
best.
Ever since the original SuperMario Bros that came out in 1985
.
Bowser has been trying todefend his kingdom of Koopas and
(14:48):
his beloved princess peach fromthe evil doer that is Mario and
his wretched brother Luigi.
The Bowser we are discussingtoday comes from the 2021 game
Bowser's Fury, the open world 3Dplatform game for the Nintendo
Switch.
In the game, bowser takes on aform that puts him officially in
the kaiju category and morethan capable of making some
(15:08):
noise in this tournament.
Going behind the scenes alittle bit, the most well-known
voice actor for Bowserthroughout the games has been
Kenny James.
Fun fact about Kenny Jamestoday a little bit of a
crossover here is he actuallywas also the voice of Fritz from
Attack on Titan.
His most recent version in popculture comes from the extremely
popular Super Mario Bros moviethat was released just a few
(15:29):
months ago, where he was, ofcourse, portrayed by none other
than Jack Black Excellently, iwill say myself I agree, peaches
, yep, there it is.
Joey, tell us about yourexperience with the Mario
franchise at large, and thenspecifically about Bowser's Fury
.
Speaker 4 (15:47):
Um, i love Mario.
I love the Mario games.
I think my favorite one is 3DWorld.
Despite some of its flaws, istill find that game extremely
fun.
I've played it almost all theway through, including the like
10 bonus worlds that come withthat game like three or four
times It's.
And I also really like SuperMario Galaxy, super Mario World.
(16:13):
I had my Game Boy Advance oneof the first games I ever played
And I actually had a worldwhere I got to 999 lives by
basically playing the same levelover and over again in farming
lives in it, because I was soafraid of losing my save.
Speaker 3 (16:28):
I never even beat the
game on it.
It was ridiculous.
That's how.
Speaker 4 (16:31):
I used to play video
games when I was nine years old.
I have always liked the Mariofranchise.
I feel like it's still thequintessential platformer.
I'm a big fan of that genre andno one really does it better
than Mario.
The ability to move about thestage and the way that your
character can move, based ondifferent characteristics like
(16:52):
how fast you're moving and whatkind of power-ups you have, are
all really really interestingand displayed really really well
in the game is so beautifulbecause it doesn't require any
sort of tutorial.
All you need to do is play itand it will teach you how to
play it right there on thescreen, and it's pretty
incredible stuff.
I'm just a huge fan of Mariofranchise.
I think it's beautiful, i thinkit's fun to play and I even
(17:16):
like the movie.
The Bowser's Fury was like a funthing for me because I'm such a
big fan of 3D World.
It plays with a lot of the same3D World mechanics, uses the
cats as a major motif, which Ithink is fun, because I like to
think of cats as extra-planerbeings, so having them be
representing an extra dimensionin the good world is fun.
(17:38):
So that's a.
I think the game is really cool.
It's sort of an experiment forNintendo because it's one world
but with a bunch of differentlands that you can go to, very
small, very compact, and it hasthis recurring event of Bowser
coming up and attacking.
Yeah, i played it when it cameout.
I played it through Joy-ConDrift.
(17:59):
Unfortunately, that is thething that stood out to me, but
I did get new controllers andhave played it since.
It's a very fun game and Ireally like being the cat.
Cat Mario is awesome and Ireally like getting really big
and messing up Bowser in everyway I can.
Nintendo is clever about theway they structure their games.
(18:19):
It's the same thing, but it'snot actually the same thing.
It's a different world thatyou're loaded into.
It just looks like it's smaller.
They're very clever about theway they structure those things,
so I was a big fan of it.
I thought Fury Bowser wasintimidating large.
I said, wow, that guy's big andI hope I get to be that big one
(18:42):
day.
Speaker 1 (18:43):
Very astute
observation, joey.
Maybe once you feed enoughveggies you'll get there.
Thanks, Jay.
Eric, i want to toss it over toyou Now.
I know that you haven't playedBowser's Fury, but tell us
generally about your Mariofandom.
I guess, specifically, weshould talk about the elephant
in the room.
We should talk about the Mariomovie.
Speaker 3 (19:05):
Yeah, no.
So a couple things on SuperMario, while it's not a current
thing that I actively play.
Really, i moved away fromNintendo after the 64.
Nintendo 64 was the console tohave And, of course, every Mario
game under the sun I played.
Super Mario World is obviouslyreally great, but I've seen good
(19:29):
things about Super Mario Galaxy.
It's obviously lived on with alot of these other iterations.
Mario Kart, the classic rightMario and all the characters are
so iconic It's hard not to getintrigued.
That's why, when the movie cameout, i knew I had to watch it
and man did it not disappoint, which is very surprising because
(19:53):
everyone wanted to hate thatmovie with Chris Pratt, castus
Mario He didn't do a bad job.
He didn't do a bad job.
I enjoyed it a lot more than Ineeded to because it's
definitely catered to kids, butI'm really excited for this next
generation to be able toexperience those characters and,
very selfishly, all the type ofNintendo-like movies that are
(20:18):
going to come from it, becausenow that Mario is one of the
most successful animated films,is that have come out in a while
.
I mean, yeah, we're going tosee it all And I can't wait to
see that eventually turn into, you know, a little Super Smash
Bros movie.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
So I think, that's, I
think it's inevitable, honestly
.
Yeah, and Super Bracket Bros isgoing to be riding that high
into podcast fame, almostcertainly.
So we're just waiting.
Nintendo, you just give us acall and we'll be there at the
red carpet, do an interview, talk to the stars about who
would win and what battle.
So you know, nintendo, you justlet us know We'll be there.
Speaker 2 (20:56):
The Super Smash Bros
movie is just an hour and a half
of Jay and me just arguing.
Speaker 1 (21:04):
Maybe we could get
you know.
I mean like they had you know, like semi-famous people, like do
cameos and like the DungeonsDragons movie and like the McRoy
brothers were in trolls, andlike we could be like extras in
the.
Super Smash Bros movie right.
Speaker 3 (21:19):
Yeah, yeah.
Like we deserve it for all thepress of Super Smash Bros.
You can be candy fodder orsomething.
You can smash it away, Yeah wecould be the me's.
Speaker 1 (21:28):
We could be, me's
just hanging out.
Speaker 3 (21:30):
Like that would get
destroyed.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
I'm okay with that.
Let's talk about Bowser ingeneral.
I kind of want to hone in onwhat makes him so iconic.
Is it just being counterpart tothe most famous video game
character of all time, in Mario, you know?
is that why Bowser's iconic, orwhat does make Bowser special?
Speaker 4 (21:50):
I think there's like
there's a lot to Bowser.
That is simplicity, right.
But one of the things I likeabout Bowser is that he is just
a bad guy.
There's not like a lot ofnuance going on about like, oh,
like he's doing it for you knowthis reason or anything.
He's just bad.
He's always capturing people, putting them in jars and, you
(22:10):
know, putting them in cages.
He's always destroying stuffand causing chaos throughout the
Mushroom Kingdom.
You know, unleashing monstersonto the world.
Everyone else is.
You know, the Toads and Peachand Mario are always just kind
of having a good time hangingout and then Bowser comes in to
ruin the party.
So he's always you know, he'salways the villain and I enjoy
(22:33):
that.
I think that the other thing isthat like he's also kind of
industrialist, right, he'salways building new stuff.
You got all these castleseverywhere staffed by his
children.
It's just a.
It's like you know he has thisBowser really kind of flavors
the whole world in a big way.
I think of Bowser as sort of aMore attention is paid to him
(22:56):
than he is to Mario.
Mario is kind of your avatar, right.
He's kind of He does whateveryou say, but Bowser is like the
thing that you're fighting.
He's the big bad guy that's outthere.
He's got all the spikes on him,he looks pretty mean, he's got
the fun coloring And he's alwayskind of developed alongside of
Mario right.
As Mario has become moredetailed and more interesting,
(23:17):
bowser has also developed newpowers and become bigger and
bigger and more intimidating.
So it's fun to like see thesekind of you know twin stars
constantly orbiting each other.
I think I think it's more thanhe's just about like Mario's
antagonist.
I think he is like an iconic.
You know he's a lizard, he'sspiny, he's kind of the sort of
(23:42):
dragon like you know.
He's sort of the antithesis, ornot the antithesis, but like
the epitome of, like the evilcreature from your imagination,
in a way.
Speaker 2 (23:52):
Yeah, and it kind of
bounced off what Jerry was
talking about.
Bowser, i mean, like he said,he just looks iconically evil.
You know, he's got the horns,he breathes higher, he's
kidnapped princesses, it's just.
There's a beauty in thesimplicity with him.
But I really love how Nintendodeveloped him in the in sort of
the later 3D platformer games, but also the Mario RPGs, where
(24:16):
they just make him a giantgoofball.
Speaker 4 (24:18):
Yes, Almost, because
Mario, yeah, paper Mario, such a
goof.
Speaker 2 (24:22):
It is amazing He's.
He actually joins your party insome of the games And the whole
time he's just like Yeah, I'm abig evil guy, but I'm helping
you.
You know, not because I, likeyou Remember that, And it's just
like that.
That was one of the best thingsthe movie did was nailing that
energy of just being this reallylarge and intimidating figure.
But his heart is just a hugedork And, like I love just
(24:44):
Bowser's, one of my favoritevillains, not just in video
games but across all media.
Because of that reason, becauseyou really could put him in any
situation and he'd beentertaining, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (24:55):
I agree with that
Sure.
Speaker 1 (24:56):
So let's move on to
our next fighter.
Today, let's talk about thecult lossal Titan.
Birt Hold Hoover is among theremaining humans in the post
apocalyptic world of attack onTitan, the global scourge that
has pushed all of humanity backto a single city on a single
island.
Among the last remaining humansin the city, there are those
(25:20):
that possess the ability totransform into special versions
of Titans.
Birt Hold is one of thosehumans able to turn into the
colossal Titan, the largest, most iconic and most feared
within the attack on Titanuniverse.
Most typical Titans look fairlysimilar to humans, but with
exaggerated and usuallyextremely disturbing features.
(25:43):
The colossal Titan shows almostno skin, with most of its body
just being exposed bone andmuscle.
If there is one kaiju in thistournament that will win with
nothing but sheer strength, itwill be the colossal Titan.
As for the origin and creationof the character, it's thanks to
the original artist and writerof the attack on Titan manga,
(26:04):
hajime Asayama.
The manga has sold over 110million copies as of September
2022, making it one of the bestselling of all time.
On the television side of things, the anime has been developed
by Witt Studio for the first 59episodes and Mappa since episode
60.
Season 1 of the anime came outin 2013 and the release of the
(26:24):
fourth and final season of theshow is ongoing this year, a
full decade later.
Despite the….
Sporadic releases, the animehas received critical acclaim.
As for Birt Hold himself, hewas voiced by David Matranga as
the English dub voice andTomohisa Hashizuma as the
Japanese voice.
Matranga is most well known forbeing the voice of Todoroki in
(26:47):
My Hero Academia and, morerecently, as Ken in the recently
released Street Fighter 6.
Eric, let's talk about attackon Titan.
Like I said, it's been a wellreceived series and incredibly
successful In your eyes.
What makes it so special andworthy of the praise?
Speaker 3 (27:03):
Well, funny enough,
someone on TikTok asked this
very similar question, so I'mgoing to give a very similar
answer.
It's by comparing attack onTitan to a show that was very
popular at its peak, which isThe Walking Dead.
So the way I compare the two isan interesting comparison, to
(27:24):
say the least.
They both deal with humancharacters dealing with these
monsters in their world.
They have amazing cliffhangersthat you're like oh, i have to
watch the next episode.
They also set up the intensityto a point where you don't know
who's going to live or who'sgoing to die.
(27:44):
Those stakes are really whatmake you get invested.
Where the two shows kind ofdivert The Walking Dead gets a
lot of heat for putting thezombies in the background and
the human to human story notbeing so interesting.
Attack on Titan, though, whenit makes that transition, the
Titans are still reallyimportant and they play an
(28:05):
important part.
There's a lot of history here, but when they get into things
like social class and politicaldivides, you're trying to figure
out the true intent of certaincharacters.
That's where the real intriguehappens.
So you're already sucked in,you're already loving the
characters, you're loving thestory, but when it takes that
turn into some of you know atone point it's like a political
(28:28):
drama and that at another pointshit's just going off the rails
and it's just nonstop action.
It's a really amazing whatthey're able to pull off and the
twists and turns of the story.
Jay, you're hearing it not goingto really talk spoilers beyond
the first season, but you'rehearing a lot about you know,
this war-torn, just like society, and this is the last of
(28:51):
humanity.
But is that really all there isto it?
There seems to be somethingelse going on at play here.
There's something in a basementthat they're trying to get to.
They play that card at whatfeels like the right time and in
the right time.
For us was so many years later,to your point, the sporadic
release schedule.
I mean that is something we'vehad to go through.
(29:13):
So all of those things makeAttack on Titan special, and
now's the time to get into it,because it is finally wrapping
up the final season, part seven.
Speaker 4 (29:25):
The second coming.
Speaker 3 (29:27):
Yeah, this is the
perfect time because that's
exactly what's happening.
We've been going through thefinal season for like three
years now.
It's not great.
Speaker 1 (29:36):
They're really
scheduled So this is the perfect
time And, yeah, that's right,i'm catching up.
I wanted to watch Attack onTitan for a really long time and
I have now watched most of thefirst season.
And, man, when I went tousually you know, shout out
Madison Public Library system Iget a ton of my stuff from there
(29:58):
when I need to research forSuper Bracket Bros I did the
same thing for Attack on Titan.
It's usually prettystraightforward.
I went and looked at thiswebsite and I looked at checking
all these, all the Blu-rays out.
It was so confusing, it was anabsolute mess, like the amount
of parts and like and the factthat I went in there and there
were Blu-rays for season four, which I know is the last season
(30:21):
which is coming out now, and Iwas like, wait, that doesn't
make any sense.
But then I realized how longthis season has been coming out
for But.
I know I'm not.
It doesn't sound like I'madvocating for watching this
show, but I am, because Eric isabsolutely right.
Now is the time to get on board.
Like go and watch all of it allat once.
(30:44):
Like you don't have to be thefanboy that started in 2013 and
is soured a decade later becauseof the release is getting
dragged out.
Like you don't have to dealwith that.
You can just watch it all rightnow.
And it's amazing, like it's sogood, like I am enjoying the
heck out of this show.
Eric is absolutely right.
I've never watched I've neverwatched anime with so much
(31:07):
intrigue, with so much likemystery to it on so many
different levels.
You know, like we werediscussing before the show
started which you can listen toif you're a Patreon member, by
the way.
I was talking about, like how Iwas researching for this
episode, like reading wikis andthings like that, but they still
didn't make sense.
Like it goes to, like I don'tfeel spoiled, even though I did
(31:31):
my proper research for thisepisode, which is a wild feeling
.
You know it doesn't make anysense, but it just I'm still
really looking forward to what'scoming next in this series,
what absolutely, like, who'sgoing to who's going to die,
what Titans are going to show up.
You know, like it's just man,it's a good show.
Speaker 3 (31:53):
It's a good show And
what I'll tell you is I can
genuinely tell you you've likebarely scratched the surface.
So, again, this show reallyrewards you for sticking with it
, and it's interesting along theway.
It's not like an anime.
This is Attack on Titan.
The first episode is one of thebest first episodes of anything
(32:13):
I've watched, like it'simmediately gripping The
colossal Titan who we're talkingabout, immediately up to no
good and starting trouble.
Speaker 1 (32:24):
So up to no good.
It's a really nice way to putit.
So again, you're like not evenscratching the surface.
Speaker 3 (32:32):
It has so much to
reward you with later on.
And fun fact if I was to make atop 10 list, which technically
I did in an episode last month,i would put Attack on Titan
currently at one.
So when I say you haven't evenscratched the surface, this is
definitely probably my favoriteanime of all time, but
collectively it's definitely thebest one I've watched in my
(32:55):
journey so far.
Speaker 1 (32:56):
I'll be keeping you
updated on my journey as I go.
100%.
The show is great, it'scritically acclaimed, but I'm
wondering if you can speak towhat makes it personally
resonate with you.
Speaker 3 (33:08):
So Attack on Titan in
this world building that starts
to happen in that first season.
That just really resonated withme, just as a fan of
storytelling and a fan of thegenre and the medium of anime.
And it does everything so cool, like again, it's not just a
good story, the animationamazing, with studio put their
(33:30):
whole foot in that thing andthen Mapa came in and was like
we're gonna put two feet in it.
So they treat the series sogood and the characters are also
really they're likable whenthey need to be in there.
They're unlikeable when theydon't need to be.
And that's the type of thing inthis show that really long term
(33:52):
, really makes this seriesspecial because you really do
get attached with thesecharacters and their journeys
and this lifestyle.
But it is very brutal And thatis definitely something that
resonates with me because itjust tells a different type of
story.
When the world is so brutal likethat And the things that these
(34:12):
characters have to overcome andthe environment that they're in,
i just really love the genrebecause of this anime And that's
what really makes it notresonate not only resonate with
me, but also makes itsentimental for me, because this
is one of those early thingsthat really started my obsession
.
It started with series likeDeath Note, which then
(34:33):
translated into this, and theneventually my hero academia,
which was a much tamer and morewidespread anime people love And
that was just it.
For me, that was like all right, well, i love all of this.
This is great.
I love the different directionsthat can take the different
terms, just like the ODM gearall over the place.
I love it.
Speaker 1 (34:53):
And so one last thing
that I want to touch on.
We got to talk about thecolossal tighten a little bit.
It's a little tough to talkabout because I mean the mental
gymnastics I had to go throughjust to explain what the
colossal Titan is And I don'treally want to dive into like
story stuff so much But likewhat about the colossal Titan
makes it?
it's hard to quantify, it'shard to put into words, like
(35:18):
what the show makes you feelabout these Titans.
Speaker 3 (35:20):
Did the colossal
Titan, just in sheer size, is
intimidating.
But then there are also otherthings like, for example, you
know the ODM gear that thesepeople have.
Well, if you know that there'sa human inside and you know the
location, why can't you justkill him, why can't you just go
get him?
Well, the colossal Titan, it'snot that he's just big and slow.
(35:41):
He has the ability to basicallyexhaust his muscle mass into
just sheer heat and juststraight heat and steam.
So you can't even get close tohim without basically burning to
a crisp.
So those are the type of thingsthat, without getting too deep
into it, make the colossalreally terrifying.
He's not just big and slow, butit's not like you can really
(36:03):
get to him very easily.
And that in itself, when itcomes down to a test of
willpower and really who's goingto last, the colossal Titan has
a good argument that he can.
He can last through a prettylong battle, you know.
But once the battle's over forhim, it's over, and we'll talk a
little bit more about that.
Speaker 1 (36:21):
On the weakness side,
So, now that we know everything
we need to know about ourfighters, let's get into a fight
.
Shall we boys, let's do it.
Let's do it Ready.
Just as a reminder, this is afight to incapacitation, whether
it be death trapping onconsciousness or a forceful
battlefield removal.
It's also important to notethat we take these characters as
they are Morals, ethics andeverything included, and, very
(36:43):
important, that we have ourrandom location generator this
season with a bunch of cities, regions that we have been
spinning all season long.
So let's roll the dice and seewhere we are headed today.
Wait the fuck up.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
Samurai, we have a
city to burn.
Speaker 1 (37:03):
Last week we were in
the real world.
We were in New York City.
This week we jump back intofiction.
We are headed to the world ofCyberpunk 2077.
We are headed to Night City.
Oh, it's nighttime here.
Speaker 2 (37:18):
Yes it is.
Speaker 1 (37:21):
Quite.
Notably It's nighttime.
It is Night City, but yeah.
So if you're unfamiliar withthe game, i mean it's a
cyberpunk ass.
Cyberpunk city It is about.
I really don't know how todescribe it.
Speaker 2 (37:36):
It's just neon, big
buildings, lots of rain, dark.
Speaker 1 (37:40):
Yeah, exactly, neon
is shit.
I mean like if you the dogshave neon.
I will imagine I mean gosh theColossal Titan is going to be
out of place here, but I meanalternatively, Fury Bowser is so
dark he might have camouflage.
Speaker 4 (38:03):
Well, it only comes
out when it's thunderstorming or
, like you know, darkness.
When he appears, the sky turnsdark.
So you fit right in.
Speaker 1 (38:11):
As our fighters are
lumbering.
you know, i think you know youhave a slight illumination
coming from all sides of justthe neon.
you know colors flashing overthe disgusting muscle of the
Colossal Titan and the leatheryskin of Fury Bowser, so sorry,
(38:33):
as these two beasts areapproaching each other, i ask
you how does this fight break?
Speaker 2 (38:39):
off Instead of
lumbering towards each other?
can Bowser just be standingthere and the Colossal Titan
just pops out of nowhere?
Speaker 1 (38:48):
like in that one
scene.
I think that's appropriate.
Speaker 2 (38:53):
His face disappears
over a build up like a
skyscraper, just as mean mug.
Speaker 4 (39:01):
Okay.
So I think Bowser has a coupleof advantages in this fight, and
one of them is he is fast.
He's not I wouldn't say he'slike really quick, he's not,
he's not like faster than Mario, but he is, i think, faster than
the colossal Titan.
He can jump really far.
(39:21):
He can throw himself into theair.
You know, i think if we'regoing off of the the you know
Boove sequence that we see inthe game, i think the first
thing we can expect for him iseither to jump into the air and
then come crashing down on theTitan with his spikes, you know,
slamming into the ground, creating a shockwave that
(39:44):
destroys everything around it,or he starts to inhale and
starts to build up the power tolaunch his lava laser Across the
city at this Titan and that'swhere I think the colossal Titan
has a boon in the setting.
Speaker 2 (40:00):
He has plenty of
Cover to dodge from the flame
breath, because before that'strue before.
It's fine.
I was thinking, if this is awide open area, the colossal
Titan's kind of gotdisadvantaged because he has no,
he has no range to compare.
Obviously he has mid range withthat steam blast and he can
pick up stuff and throw it.
But Bowser would have theadvantage in this.
You know, it's a beam like.
Speaker 4 (40:20):
It's straight up
Godzilla style, like breath that
Just right clears through themap in the in Bowser's fury when
you're little Mario and Bowseris Furiously, you know spraying
at you, you can just hide behindany like structure and he will.
He won't be able to hit you.
So I think that the city willgive lots of good cover for our
(40:41):
Titan, despite how big he is.
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (40:44):
Yeah, I would say
with Bearthold.
He's gonna be wondering whyhe's in his Titan form.
So obviously he's gonna prettymuch spawn and be like I didn't
do that.
He's also a very timid character, so he's not one that typically
takes charge.
Necessarily, that is, that isfor his counterpart in the show
(41:07):
To really do.
He really follows more than heleads.
So that's interesting, considering He is the biggest
Titan Out of them all, arguablyone of the strongest, if not the
strongest.
So the thing with him is Ithink he will kind of be
standing still.
So you know, joy brings up agood point.
If, if Bowser goes up in theair or Is shooting from long
(41:32):
range, i can easily see thatbeing the start of this fight,
with Bowser taking the offensiveand the colossal Titan kind of
Assessing the situation.
Perthold is timid but he issmart and he is tactical, so I
would think he's gonna start tosee what Bowser can actually do
before he tries to go on theoffense.
Speaker 4 (41:51):
I think that Bowser's
biggest weakness is that he is
not a strategic fighter.
He is really like a let's justthrow everything at the wall and
see what sticks, kind of thing.
Right, he's very predictable,he moves and set patterns that
are easy for you to exploit.
And I think that And the otherthing is that even this Bowser
(42:13):
in especially, is like acting oninstinct.
He's referred to in the game asthe beast.
Even his son, bowser Jr, isenlisting the help of Mario to
help like calm down His dad, whohas like gone off to rails,
like he's not even part of hisnormal Scheming Koopa self.
He's like completely lostcontrol.
(42:33):
So you know, i think It's gonnabe easy, for if, if personal
gets a a chance to assess thesituation, it's gonna be easy
for him to exploit Bowser'sweaknesses, assuming the Bowser
doesn't rip him to pieces withhis the spines really quick.
Speaker 3 (42:51):
I was gonna ask for a
clarifying question.
What is the size differencebetween these two characters?
Do we have a good understandingon who's clearly bigger?
Speaker 4 (42:59):
He's got.
He's got some stats here.
Looks like Bowser or birth holdis 60 meters, but fury Bowser
is bigger at 77 meters.
Speaker 1 (43:06):
Okay, Bowser is
bigger and I will say, yeah,
bowser's at 77.
Bert hold is 60 meters.
Bert was super easy because oflike I think like the second
line in the show is like He'slooking over a wall and what
character says that wall's 50meters tall.
Speaker 4 (43:30):
He's like standing
next to like a big measuring
stick.
You know like how much talleram I today?
Speaker 2 (43:35):
And then the third
the third line of this show is
like wow, he must be at least2700 tons.
They don't say that.
Speaker 1 (43:43):
I will say the
tonnage was incredibly hard to
pin down for the colossal Titan.
I came up with 2700 over doingsome research and conjecture
with the greater internet.
But one thing that theyspecifically mentioned and I Got
to this part in the show theytalk about how the Titans are
(44:04):
extremely light, that despitetheir Incredible destructive
power, that they're really light.
So while 2700 tons compared to57,000 tons for fury Bowser
might seem, i mean, like you'retalking about, what is that like
five percent, you know, of furyBowser's body mass, it's.
(44:25):
It is not a really goodindicator of what the colossal
Titan is capable of.
I do want to point that.
Speaker 2 (44:32):
The colossal Titan
kick a hole in a giant wall, so
it's not like it's not.
I don't think we're going withboxing.
It's not strict boxing ruleswhere a higher weight classes
have advantage.
I think that colossal Titan isstill packing Heat and the
punches and the kicks.
But I think I want to ask youguys about is this the steam
ability Like?
when I was researching it?
(44:52):
that just sounds so interestingAnd it was super effective
against.
You know, the, the, the humancharacter is trying to zip line
around The colossal Titan tokill it, but how is it effective
against something bigger?
Speaker 4 (45:08):
Yeah, that's a good
question.
I was thinking about thisbecause I think, because Bowser
like shoots fire, right, he'sobviously got some sort of fire
resistance, but I don't see himbeing able to resist something
as like scalding and you know So, so intense as the steam thing.
Speaker 3 (45:25):
Right, considering
how easily he gets like knocked
around by Bat by Mario, i thinkthis would be pretty effective
as a defense mechanism now, onething that should definitely be
noted here is that there is aWeakness to this, so it's it's
like it is extremely hot.
I mean, just a normal humanbody wouldn't last More than
(45:47):
maybe a minute or so with beforebeing basically burnt to a
crisp if they were to stayWithin that steam within that
area.
Now I don't know if the steamwould necessarily stop an attack
, but at close range can be verydamaging.
The catch is that if thecolossal continues to use it,
it's decreasing its muscle mass,so it starts to get down to its
(46:09):
skeleton.
So there's only a certainamount of it that you can do.
And the second catch is once thecolossal is out of commission
and pretty much steams out.
Burdhold is just a human and hecannot go back into being the
colossal for quite some time.
There is a cool down period.
So there's definitely going tobe a moment, a very pivotal
(46:32):
moment in this match, where thecolossal has to do something
very, very, very, very badly Atsome point.
Otherwise it's gonna be at thepoint of basically being
incapacitated.
Speaker 2 (46:44):
Okay the other point
I wanted to I want to talk about
was watching Bowser's Fury forcontext.
I haven't played Bowser's Furybut I did watch all the footage
and I saw Surrounding Bowserfury when you finally fight him.
Is all this sludge Like?
it's almost like, yeah, he'salmost like excreting goop that
slows you down as Mario, whenyou try to approach him.
(47:05):
Are we putting that into thisfight?
is Bowser Having justsurrounded by this sludge?
because if that's the case, that's, that's a really big deal
for Burdhold who needs to getclose to do damage.
Speaker 4 (47:15):
If he, if he's
surrounded by sludge that slows
him down, he does like a minuteright, It's like any like well
more like he converts the waterit's around him into it right,
so there's water falling andeverything that I believe that
it would play a role, but Idon't see it being that big of
an hindrance because all itreally does is slow you down and
you sort of sink into it.
Since the cult and since the, the, the Titan is so big.
(47:36):
I feel like his would maybeaffect his ability to walk if
he's close in there, but notreally like swing his arms or
anything like that.
Speaker 3 (47:43):
Okay, and just from a
walking standpoint.
I mean it should probably bementioned that it's not a great
location for the colossal NightCity has a lot of buildings, a
lot of different arch.
You know architecture here Thatdoesn't do well for Titan
walking typically and he doeswalk, he's not jogging, he's not
running in Bowser.
(48:03):
So, Definitely note here.
Speaker 1 (48:08):
So I think the thing
that I want to talk about the
most and I've kind of been, i'vebeen stewing on this and it
it's got to be the Titansregenerative abilities,
presumably, i mean, i guess.
I guess I'll throw it to you, eric, you know, do we, do we
ever see the colossal Titan youknow Regrow at the same rate
that we do other Titans, or what?
(48:29):
what do those capabilities looklike?
Speaker 3 (48:31):
Yeah.
So and that that's where itgets a little difficult, because
the colossal has a lot of thatbody mass, so I would say it has
.
It can take a little bit moreTo, you know, to really get to
that point of exhaustion orincapacitation.
So it's gonna take a lot.
It's got it's got that goingfor it.
(48:51):
Regenerate, regenerative It'snot.
It's not really something thatthat Titan, or a lot of the
Titans, have the capability ofdoing.
You will see characters who canturn into Titans, be able to
regenerate body parts, forexample.
So if you were to have likeProbably a famous one is is like
(49:11):
a, like a arm bitten off andyou're just swallowed.
Speaker 2 (49:16):
How'd you get your?
Speaker 3 (49:17):
back.
That does happen And it doesn'ttake very, very long, but
that's more, i would say, outside of Titan form for the
colossal.
There hasn't been any historythat I'm aware of where mid
fight The colossal is able toregenerate.
And that is one of thedrawbacks to that steam emission
, because if it could regenerateI mean that he would just
(49:39):
basically steam the entire timeuntil the opponent submits.
So he'd be pretty broken if hecould regenerate so I do
actually think on the weaknessside That that not being an
ability is gonna hinder him?
How?
Speaker 4 (49:53):
tough is like a tight
.
This Titans hide exactly right.
What if?
if Bowser was to rip throughhim with like a claw or
something, would he be able toresist that?
I've just I just not getting agood idea of like how, how tough
he is obviously can punchthrough a wall.
That's pretty tough.
Speaker 3 (50:08):
Yeah, the colossal
Titan.
So this is where it's gonna getinteresting.
So, bowser, to your point, joeyis not going to Tack, be
tactical about where not at allAlso probably not spoiled on
attack on Titan, so it has noclue.
There's a little man.
Speaker 4 (50:26):
Even if he did,
there's no guarantee who act on
no guarantee.
Speaker 3 (50:30):
Bowser is not the
kind of person that like goes
for a person's weaknesses.
Speaker 4 (50:33):
He leaves wide open
spaces for people to exploit.
It's sort of his thing, notyeah, exactly.
Speaker 3 (50:39):
No, that, uh, that
that's obvious, right?
So, um, there, i would say theheight is not, is not gonna stop
like a spike or a nail, more sothan like a sword from the ODM
gear.
So, if you've watched, you knowyou've watched the first six
episodes J.
You've watched the first season.
You guys know if you've seenthe iconic ODM gear.
(51:00):
They're slashing at the back ofthe neck, the nape of the
Titans, and There is the abilityin the fear and that's why the
colossal will typically emitsteam when someone gets close to
his nape, because that ODMsword has the ability to to
pierce the skin.
So I think I think that being agood comparison, i would think
(51:21):
Bowser would have those samecapabilities, if not more.
I guess it would just depend onhow sharp it is, but I think
just had a sheer force in size.
I feel like that's a prettyfair assessment.
Speaker 4 (51:33):
Yeah, i think this
all depends on whether or not
birth hold is able to AnticipateBowser's movements and get out
of the way in time.
Bowser telegraphs everything, right, you know what he's gonna
do basically before he does it.
But you have to have the speedto get out of the way in order
to take advantage of that sortof thing.
And and he's also got, likehella range weapons right, he's
(51:54):
got the.
He's got the laser breath, which will be extracted by the
buildings right in the class, will be able to hide behind it,
but he's also got fireballs thatyou can kick.
He's also launching Like piecesof earth into the air that will
crash down Around them.
So if any of those things likefalls on the Titan, it's gonna
(52:16):
be a problem for him to dealwith.
Speaker 2 (52:19):
Okay, quick question
How is the colossal Titan's
ground pound ability When Bowseris on his back?
is Birt-Hull gonna be able tojump in the air, do a somersault
and ground pound his stomach to?
Speaker 3 (52:31):
activate the wedge
point.
You know, I don't think, Ithink you misunderstood what I
meant by walking is the only oneYou must have you must have
misheard, i think.
Speaker 2 (52:42):
I think there was a
filler episode of Attack on
Titan or an OVA of Birt-Hull, asthe colossal Titan doing
somersaults through the air.
If I'm I think I might be Imight have watched something
different.
Speaker 3 (52:52):
I'm gonna be honest,
there was a moment of silence
here where I think you guyswanted me to say that.
Speaker 4 (52:58):
I think you guys
wanted me to say something
positive because I'm I'm gonnabe honest with you.
Speaker 3 (53:03):
I walked in here with
an idea and it has just gone
terribly wrong, because I keeplooking at it and he really does
need to have a somersaultability at this point, because
when he gets an opening he'sgonna maybe step on him, but
he's not even like.
He's not even like bigger, likehe doesn't even really have the
size advantage and we talkedabout the weight not being
(53:26):
exactly like as far as the tons, not being able to tell the full
story.
But it tells enough of thestory where I don't think just
like stomping on him would beenough.
You know force.
Speaker 4 (53:38):
Maybe like a, maybe
like a double-handed, like, like
you know, smash into the ground.
You know That.
Speaker 3 (53:44):
That could do it.
That could do it, especially ifyou know.
I would assume there's gonna belike a circle that tells him
where to hit when Bowser's down.
Speaker 4 (53:53):
So I think the the
when he lands in his back is not
gonna work very well forBerthold, because when Bowser
lands he also sends out thatshockwave which will like
probably collapse a lot of thecity And unless Berthold can
jump rope I don't think he'sgonna have much chance of
dodging that.
Speaker 2 (54:11):
I just I need to see
the colossal Titan try to jump
Dude no.
It's like from thisconversation.
That's all I want to see.
Speaker 1 (54:19):
Yeah, i would.
I would just be happy, justlike to see both feet off the
ground, just like for for half asecond.
Just like I don't think it'spossible, I almost feel like
your skeletal frame wouldcollapse.
Speaker 4 (54:31):
There is, there is a
chance here, which is Bowser.
Does this spinning side moveright?
He's sort of like like arolling coin kind of kind of
thing and one side is all spikes.
You don't want to be in thatside, but the other side is the
soft underbelly, right.
So if Berthold can see thatcoming, step out to the side and
then do one of his side smasheswith both fists as he rolls by,
(54:52):
that that could be prettydevastating.
I think The other thing isthose spikes that Bowser throws
into the air can be picked upand thrown.
So, depending on Berthold's aim, he could probably knock Bowser
out with a well-aimed spike.
Speaker 3 (55:06):
I think that Berthold
would have to really have the
the intelligence aspect to makethis really go his way.
So I think I think he's had alot of disadvantages is kind of
already the theme right And Ithink that having that human
intelligence and just theintelligence in general from the
(55:27):
combat experience and, you know, not being Bowser who loses to
Mario every single time, i meanwe're not talking about a
warlord here.
So I think Berthold really couldpossibly to your point, joey
make some tactical decisions tobe able to use the environment
to buy some time.
I think that, more so thannecessarily moving out of the
(55:49):
way, i think he could possiblytry to like obstruct his
viewpoint.
he could possibly try toleverage that.
as you know, the environment isa weapon.
You know Eli wants to see himjump, but if he jumps it's not
Night City anymore, it's justNight, there's no city, it's
gone.
So we may not want to see thathappen because he's going to
(56:12):
need the environment around himto really kind of leverage that.
And I would say the colossalthrowing it while throwing stuff
is not his Titan ability, whichyou'll see, jay, very soon.
He can definitely make it work.
He could definitely make thatwork in his favor.
Speaker 2 (56:32):
You think the
colossal Titan's smash ability?
he just falls down, he justyells Timber and just He just
puts his elbow out and justlands with his elbow.
Pats on the elbow and slowlyfalls down, if he falls.
Speaker 3 (56:45):
He is not getting
back up.
He has any push-ups.
I have fallen and I can't getup.
Speaker 2 (56:53):
He's going to need
life-flow because it's not bad.
Speaker 1 (56:58):
He pulls out of his
chest cavity the little ping,
the little necklace and justcalls for help because the armor
Titan to come push him back up.
Speaker 3 (57:08):
That's exactly what
would happen.
Speaker 1 (57:09):
So one thing that I
want to talk about.
I think that we've talked a lotabout what Bowser can do to the
colossal Titan.
We've talked about the Titan'sdefensive abilities, his
mobility.
What does it take from theTitan to take down Bowser?
What does that look like?
Because if this is Bowser justhacking away at the Titan,
(57:32):
trying to find the weakness andeventually getting there, what
does the Titan have to dooffensively to get this done?
Speaker 3 (57:40):
Unfortunately That's
not a good start.
Avating would be a great startand that is not a strength.
But that is where I think again, leveraging the buildings and
leveraging some of the steamability to keep Bowser at bay, i
think it's probably going to bethe best opportunity to assess
(58:03):
those long to medium rangeattacks.
I think if you can avoid closecombat, because that's while you
want to get a punch and I meanthe colossal has long arms, so
the colossal can get a jab fromacross the ring, so to speak, so
there's the opportunity forthat.
But I think anything closerthan medium range definitely can
(58:25):
be a sign of trouble.
There will be a lot of use ofthat steam again, using that
muscle mass.
That will only be able toreally buy time.
And I think, assessing Bowser'svideo game character abilities
of jump once, dodge, jump twice, hit Again, there's going to be
(58:45):
some type of combo And I thinkBirthold can absolutely
determine that.
It's just a matter of how manyhits can he take.
And I think ultimately that'sthe theme of this fight, because
I think he's going to take foreach type of attack.
The colossal Titan is going totake at least one to two hits
before being able to adjust, andhow many times can you do that?
(59:09):
If three is the magic number,do we think the colossal Titan
can take a couple hits, get apunch in new moveset?
take a couple hits, get a punchin and then do it one more time
for the win?
I think that's the realconversation here and I am
curious to see where we land onthat.
Speaker 4 (59:27):
I think there's a
serious threat of forcible
battlefield removal here, considering how light the Titan
is and how massive Bowser is andhow fast he moves.
If he gets a good hit onBarthol before he can get out of
the way, that guy's goingflying Maybe through buildings
over the water into the nextcounty.
(59:49):
So I think there's a seriousBowser's packing, a serious
punch.
Doesn't do a lot to Mario, mario just gets a slightly
smaller, but that's going to bea I'm not sure how many of those
this smaller Titan, the smallerKaiju, will be able to take
from the serious mass thatBowser is packing.
Speaker 2 (01:00:11):
Alright, last thing
Colossal Titan with cat ears.
Speaker 4 (01:00:15):
That's devastating.
You see in the game that whenthe Plessy the dinosaur gets the
cat.
Things it becomes even biggerthan its normal.
It's a scale thing, right.
You become bigger if you havethe power-up than you were
(01:00:36):
previously by a magnitude.
Yes, if there were power-ups inthis world, if he was to get
the cat ears, I think that'scurtains for Bowser.
Speaker 2 (01:00:48):
No, my one weakness.
Speaker 4 (01:00:51):
Why do I keep leaving
these out?
Speaker 1 (01:00:56):
So how we decide the
winners here on Super Bracket
Bros, each of us is going togive an out of 10 on who we
think will win this fight.
The out of 10 is just torepresent our personal
confidence in a given fighter tobe able to win this fight.
Whoever receives the majority 3out of 4 or 4 out of 4 of our
total votes is going to be thefighter that moves on.
The confidence does kick in ifwe do have a tie between the
(01:01:20):
four of us.
But, eli, do you have adecision in mind?
Speaker 2 (01:01:24):
You know, going in I
haven't played Bowser's Fury,
nor have I seen Attack on Titan.
So this fight I was veryinterested in doing the research
to compare both fighters.
Just from the still images Ithought it was going to be a
closer fight because I had anidea in my mind of how these
fighters would actually fight.
But on doing the research I seeit's the complete opposite.
(01:01:44):
I am just amazed at how fastFury Browser is, but also the
size at which he is compared tothe Colossal Titan.
I am kind of surprised at howslow the Colossal Titan is.
The steam ability I didn'trealize sapped him of his own
power.
Yeah, like there was just somany things that came up of like
(01:02:09):
man.
This is kind of a wash Like Ithink I'm giving it to Fjord
Bowser 8 out of 10 times.
I'm almost nearing on 9 justbecause, like Fjord Bowser's
bigger and moves faster and hasmore attack versatility.
And we didn't even mention thewater.
This takes place in Night City, which is, by the way, and we
see in Fjord Bowser he's able touse the water to like hide in.
(01:02:31):
So that's another advantage.
I just burthal cute Hoover justdoesn't have like anything that
Bowser doesn't have in thisfight.
If the Colossal Titan wasfaster and the Steam ability
wasn't such a hindrance ordidn't have such a like you know
, a negative effect on hisabilities, i think this would be
a much closer fight.
But he's just hamstrung by somany things where Bowser is kind
(01:02:55):
of just wheeling and dealingwithout much anything holding
him back really.
So yeah, for me this is 8 outof 10 for Bowser.
I think the Colossal Titan getsa win, maybe with the Steam
ability.
He exudes everything and, likemelts Bowser Some cheeky you
know three punches to thestomach, defeats Bowser, but
(01:03:16):
that's.
Speaker 4 (01:03:16):
I'm being generous.
Speaker 2 (01:03:17):
I think Bowser wins
this fight.
Speaker 4 (01:03:19):
Speedrunning uh Fury
Bowser.
Speaker 2 (01:03:23):
Yeah, there's no cat
ears for the Colossal Titan, so
I think that sealed his fate.
Speaker 4 (01:03:28):
Joey, I have to agree
with Eli 8 out of 10 times for
Fury Bowser.
Everything he said, plus thefact that Bowser's main attacks
are bludgeoning and likepiercing weapons right, Which is
going to be devastating towardour Colossal Titan, who is weak
against those things, I thinkthe size advantage is probably
(01:03:51):
the biggest thing that turnsthis fight.
For me, If the Colossal Titanwas bigger, you know, slower but
stronger, I would say thatBowser would end up on the side,
upside down, you know, sinkinginto the goop licking his wounds
.
But that's not the case.
So 8 out of 10 times for Bowser.
Speaker 3 (01:04:12):
Eric, So I know you
brought me on.
Tak on Titan guy.
I came in, really wanted and Icame in with a mindset because
listen, I started doing FuryBowser research and I was like
shit this is not good.
And I know they're close inranking.
I think the opponent one is adetriment to.
(01:04:36):
I mean, you guys gave it a goodeffort to see what cracks in
the armor can be done to Bowserand and what can the Colossal
bring.
I think it's just simply a badmatchup.
It's a bad location.
It's simply for the fact thatmy answer is an 8 out of 10 as
well And it's for the reasonsyou guys mentioned.
But this could have easily beenand I still think in any case
(01:04:58):
Bowser would have won becauseit's a bad matchup.
But really, 6 out of 10, 7 outof 10, that could have happened
if the location was differentand we had the ability, some
type of special ability, for theColossal to transform a little
bit And then just a lot ofdifferent things could have gone
his way.
(01:05:19):
But I mean again, steam andpunches.
That's unfortunately what we'vedetermined in this matchup And
I got a painfully agree.
It hurts me.
The Colossal deserve to be onthis roster And I think in
another matchup would havereally performed a lot better.
But Fury Bowser, i think, justoff a sheer strength alone and
(01:05:41):
the abilities that he has, ithink he's gonna take a few
people out.
I don't know if he's gonna winthe whole thing, but he's
competitive.
That was not expected, becausewhen I did my research.
I was scared coming into this.
Speaker 1 (01:05:56):
So I'm in a similar
mind And I feel like I'm
actually gonna defend theColossal Titan here a little bit
, because I'm only going 7 outof times for Bowser.
I feel maybe it's because I'multra hyped for attack on Titan
right now, maybe and I'll admityou know a possible bias here
(01:06:17):
because, like, i'm in the midstof the show and really enjoying
it But just like I feel like thelike Bowser's going to attack
with like a video game bossregularity and he's going up
against a human.
I think the intelligence factoris something that is important
here.
Like I think that Bowser, yeah, can probably just pick up the
Titan and chuck him, but whywould he do that?
(01:06:41):
You know, like what's to saythat like he is smart enough to
like think about that.
You know, i just don't trustBowser as a video game boss, you
know, with predictable patterns.
But at the end of the day, istill am going Bowser because,
like he does have all the powersfrom what I can tell, you know,
he's also a video game boss inthe fact that he's not limited
(01:07:02):
by video game hero cooldowns andthings like that either.
You know.
So, like there is that aspectto consider And yeah, i think
that Bert Holt is just he's justtoo damn slow, like, at the end
of the day, like I really thinkthat is the number one
hindrance in this fight.
If they were the same speed, iwould probably go with the
colossal Titan, you know, like Ithink, if they, if they were at
(01:07:25):
a similar, you know, mock, youknow I think I would go with the
colossal Titan.
But yeah, along with being, youknow, along with incredible
durability in a very specificweak spot, he's just eventually
Bowser's going to rip his headoff and see the little guy
poking out.
So what do you think he's goingto do when he sees a little guy
(01:07:45):
poking out?
Speaker 2 (01:07:47):
He's going to kill
that guy.
Speaker 1 (01:07:50):
So Bowser's, bowser's
, he's angry, he's angry With
that that is going to be FuryBowser moving on in the
tournament to face the winner ofnext week's matchup, where we
are talking Godzilla versus thePower Rangers.
So you're not going to want tomiss next week's matchup.
(01:08:11):
That's our number one versus 16.
So you're going to be able tofind out who Fury Bowser is
taking on.
But, thank you guys, both Joeyand Eric, i both, i appreciate
both of your time so much forcoming on and giving it, giving
you your best.
go for one of you.
Speaker 4 (01:08:33):
I appreciate the
effort.
Speaker 3 (01:08:35):
You have to say which
one.
Speaker 4 (01:08:38):
No, we know.
Speaker 3 (01:08:41):
It started off that
way, don't worry, it's fine.
Speaker 2 (01:08:45):
I got a win.
That's all that matters.
That's all that matters to me.
Speaker 1 (01:08:51):
But yeah, no, thank
you both for coming on, and I
want to give our audience achance to know where to find you
out on the internet, so theycan go and find what you're up
to.

Speaker 3 (01:09:39):
Well, at this point,
if you're not listening to the
Wait For It podcast from theSuper Bracket Bros, you're dead
to me.
Speaker 4 (01:09:48):
That's all I can tell
you.
Speaker 3 (01:09:50):
But for those of you
guys that have made the jump or
aren't thinking about it despitethe threat, we have a lot of
great content.
We're going to have to wait forour podcast.
Recently we introduced a newseries called Creator Spotlight,
So we had the lovely voiceactor Matthew Elkins on from
anime series you may know calledBlue Lock.
We're really excited to dostuff like that.
(01:10:11):
You guys obviously have heardwe've been in the convention
scene.
Bold Matt Suri, as Philmentioned on the last episode,
is going to be here in June.
We just did a promo shoot whichwe're excited to be released
for them.
We also are going to be hostingpanels at the event and having
a panel of our own, which isreally exciting, And on the show
we have a lot of differentseries that you can get into.
(01:10:33):
So obviously things like UpHigh, Down Low, where we rank
things, Late to the party.
We're doing Indiana Jones thismonth.
We have never seen the IndianaJones films.
Speaker 4 (01:10:43):
So we're watching
them.
Are you going to?
Speaker 3 (01:10:45):
see the new one.
Are you going to see the newone?
We're deciding on that episode.
If we're going to see, Dial ofDestiny.
You're not going to want to?
I don't think so.
The first one was interesting.
Let's just say that it is aninteresting series, but we're
excited to get into it.
And then, of course, we do abunch of bonus stuff like
reviews and different things onTikTok, where we're posting
(01:11:07):
daily now.
So that's a whole journey,despite Phil's hesitancy.
So we have a lot of greatthings to look forward to and
we'd appreciate you, you know, jumping on board And if not,
again you're dead to me.
So that's.
Speaker 1 (01:11:22):
Eric, you could only
threaten my audience once per
episode.
Speaker 3 (01:11:25):
It's like you can't,
it's just a double doubt.
You got me in a bad mood tostart, and then I had to tear my
boy, my boy band hold down Likethe.
Speaker 4 (01:11:37):
Titans aren't shit.
Speaker 3 (01:11:39):
They're so good Each
time each time Jay asked a
question and I said well, thecolossal can't do that.
I can tell Jay was getting sopissed He's like what did I even
bring you on here for?
Speaker 2 (01:11:55):
I felt so bad.
Speaker 1 (01:11:59):
I had high hopes for
the colossal.
Speaker 4 (01:12:01):
I'm not going to lie.
I'm not going to lie.
Speaker 2 (01:12:06):
So can you regenerate
.
Speaker 3 (01:12:07):
No Okay, can you hop?
No Okay, thanks a lot.
Speaker 1 (01:12:16):
I just kicked you off
at some point, just made up my
own attack on Titan head.
Don't ask me any more questions.
Speaker 3 (01:12:25):
Joey said the stage I
told you, jay.
Speaker 2 (01:12:28):
There is an OVA of
the Titan summer salting in air.
Speaker 3 (01:12:33):
You should have done
with that.
Trust the expert who hasn'tseen the show.
Speaker 1 (01:12:39):
Thank you both for
coming on.
I really appreciate yourinsights and expertise on the
characters today.
