A super Kelli, super, whatever. The incredible thing
is, this is theSupercalifragilistic, awesome
Disney podcast, where, eachweek, we discuss, you guessed
it, Disney things you know, things you don't know, and
things you didn't know youneeded to know. Well, as Walt
would say, the way to get itstarted is to quit talking and
begin doing. Oh, wait, wait, wait, I can do this. Please

(00:24):
stand clear of the doors. Porfavor. Man 10 gas alejaro de las
puertas. Welcome aboard Disney.
Fam,hello out there. Disney. Fam, my
name is Chris and I'm Kelli, andwe're so glad you're with us. We
are strugglingfairly functional this week. I
can't even believe you areupright enough to do this, but

(00:44):
you're a trooper, and so hereyou are, first day I've been
vertical in about five days, which is exciting for a lot of
reasons. Yes, and I'm wearing myItaly ears, one because they are
the most comfortable ears I own.
Sure, puffy they got their feetwell, they're soft, puffy

(01:05):
gingham too. Yeah, they're comfytwo because they're topic
adjacent, okay? But also, I justreally needed some comfy ears
tonight. I don't have, I don'thave space right now in my life
for anything itchy, all things comfortable, yes,
well, we had downloads as alwaysbecause the listeners are
amazing.

(01:27):
Truckee, California, ooh, how doyou spell that truck with two
E's on the end? Oh, my gosh, that feels like it ought to be a
gas station brand.
It does this a gorgeous skicommunity, right? The sort of
Lake Tahoe area of California, yes, would not have guessed that
in a million years. So part ofthe famous in part due to the

(01:53):
tragic tale of the Donner partyway back. I mean, Donner Lake is
in Truckee, California, right?
So you know little cannibalism, okay, wow, creepy. But hey, we
are happy to have you brighterdays. Has listened to our listen
to our podcast? Welcome, welcome. Welcome Livonia,
Michigan. Oh, Livonia, yeah, suburb west of Detroit. We have

(02:16):
so many suburbs of Detroit thatjust listen this. So Detroit's
very underrated. It's superunderrated. We love that area.
Big sports town, the largestAmateur Hockey and soccer clubs
in the state, and the HockeyClub is a two time state champ.
Wow, that's cool. Yeah. Lavonia, yeah, go Livonia. Good on you.
Livonia.

(02:39):
I don't know if that's how theysay it. But I hope it is North
Las Vegas, Nevada. Oh, I thinkmainly famous for being north of
Las Vegas, but like a nice placeto be, okay? How far north?
Just, just, I think that's whatit says on the map. Just okay,
north of Las Vegas, all right.
And truly, one of the world'swonderful cities, Mexico City,

(03:02):
Mexico. Mexico city that is onmy bucket. I know I want to go
so bad. One of my favoritepodcasters goes all the time,
and he just, I've got a coworker that lived there for 25
years, and he just thinks theworld of it, yeah, certainly one
of the most important culturalcenters in Latin America. I
always forget, like the I know Ifollow the US national soccer

(03:25):
team, and they play down there afair amount, and I always forget
how high the elevated MexicoCity is. It's like, oh yeah,
elevation, yeah, absolutely itis. So anyway, so yeah, thank
you all for the downloads. Weare so appreciative. Yes,
welcome, welcome aboard. Yep.
Are you ready for some news?
Let's do it all right, okay.

(03:50):
So starting Wednesday, March thefifth, launches the Epcot
international Flower and GardenFestival. So look, I think this
is the second best festival atEpcot throughout the year, okay,
but it's a thing that's prettyhigh bar. I mean, to be the
second to be only behind bar.
Food and Wine Festival is myfavorite, obviously. Okay, so

(04:11):
then, I mean, I like festivalthe arts. I think there's some
pretty cool dishes that come outof festival the arts. They're
beautiful. That's figments. Youknow, time to shine. I know it
is, but I think interact you.
You're just making quite astatement without us discussing
this. I don't know that I wantus to declare that I'm speaking

(04:33):
for me. Okay, I'm just saying. Idon't think I'm ready. Would you
what would you put as numbertwo? I might have put Festival,
the arts, or would you put theholiday Festival, the holiday
Festival, Best Festival, theholidays. I don't know. I mean,
maybe I would have put, maybe ii might have put Flower and
Garden like last.
Okay, you can do that, but youcan also be wrong. It's fine.

(04:53):
I'm just saying, I don't thinkyou should just declare that
it's the second best festival.
Easily the second best is thesecond.
Longest. That makes it thesecond best. Are you seeing the
holidays? Is third? Uh,holidays?
Yeah. Maybe it's not the youknow, you know, you
backtracking. Now I can see onyour face, it is second. It's
not second best. And you knowit, take it, take it back. Take

(05:15):
it back. Totally not, notsecond. You're gonna agree.
We're gonna do a, we're gonna doa virtual tour of the food
booths. You're gonna agree, I'mnot gonna agree that it's second
best. No, I'm not. I'm not thirdat best.
Look, this thing starts March 5and runs through June 2. You
went on and on on aboutAntonio's hair last year. So

(05:39):
cute. Oh my gosh, she had greathair.
I know good hair, really goodhair. Yeah, so I mean that
alone, boop right at the numbertwo, at least, because Antonio's
hair. Yeah, for you, I know howyou love this hair. I don't. I
think you're making very broadstatements. And I and in my
weakened state, I can't reallycome up with good a reason why

(06:01):
I'm wrong? No, I've got plentyof reasons you're wrong. I just
can't come up with good quips.
I'm also trying to wrangle inour biggest dog. I know we took
his benevolence away because itwas the noise was showing up in
the soundright now. All right, so March 1
yesterday was World complimentday and Walt Disney World Shared
that over 2.6 millioncompliments have been left for

(06:26):
cast members through the app.
That's amazing. That is amazing.
It's amazing. I love that. Butit's not enough. Let's give them
some more. How do we know howmany years that's I don't know.
I think since the app launched, probably that's what I was
worried is, how long has thatbeen? That's the impression I
got from the article, was thatit's since we launched the app
to give 2.6 million complimentsto cast members. Okay, so All

(06:50):
right, let's, let's pile thoseon. They're worth it. Five to 10
million. Yeah, they deal with abunch of BS all the time, Yep,
absolutely, and nobody'sperfect, but they they work
hard. Yep, okay, look, oh goodness. I think a lot
of news about this came out onwhile we were on our break.

(07:12):
Okay, like I feel like you'realso right on a break, okay, but
I am hoping, hoping, hoping, oh,gosh, I feel like you work the
Disney Starlight dream. Thenight away opens before we go in
the summer. This is the newnighttime parade. We're at Magic
Kingdom. Oh, it's a new MagicKingdom nighttime parade. Yes,

(07:35):
okay. Is it gonna be spectra, magic, electrical lights. I
don't, I'm, I have taken so muchmedication. It is in the last 72
hours. It's, you know, it's,it's based on, like, the Old
Main Street Electrical Parade, okay, uh, scheduled to launch in
the summer of 2025 okay, but thenews item this week was that,

(07:59):
specifically the news item wasthat it's now on the website.
It's actually, you know, detailed on the website, and
they've got the like, a littlething there for the schedule,
but it says, like, March 1. WhenI looked at it yesterday, March
1. No parade today. Okay, soschedule when it's going to
launch, right? But it says it'sscheduled to launch in the

(08:20):
summer of 2025, okay, well,we're going to right in the
middle of 2020, sorry, so I feellike summer should be early
June.
Okay. I mean, is thattechnically still summer? It's
for your 50th birthday? I thinkthey, I feel like we ought to
call I think they could make ithappen. I feel like we want to
call somebody. I do Absolutely.
Hopeful. What's, what's specialabout it? You said it's based on

(08:42):
electrical Well, I mean, it'sthat kind of a parade. It's a
it's like a spectrum magic, amain street, Electrical Parade.
Here's what Disney's website hasto say about it. Okay, behold a
dazzling nighttime parade thatcelebrates magical moments from
Disney stories, each touched bystarlight.
Find find a sweet spot under thestars to watch Disney Starlight

(09:06):
dream the night away ashimmering processional inspired
by the classic Main StreetElectrical Parade. It's a star
kissed constellation of Disneydreams brought to life by the
magic of the Blue Fairy. Watchas enchanting moments unfold,
from favorite Disney and Pixarstories such as Moana Peter Pan
and Canto, frozen Pinocchio andmore, it all happens along the

(09:30):
parade route, from Frontier landto Main Street, USA. I've got a
question, okay, who is the BlueFairy?
Oh, gosh, oh my gosh.
Is this God modesty podcast fornigh on years now, honey, who's
the Blue Fairy? She's been like, yes, fairy. She's the one that
gives him real legs, like a realboy.

(09:54):
Don't make me laugh. It's gonnamake me cough. And that's not
what the listeners want to hear.
I'm sorry. You're right. Youwrite about that.
I want to hear that you'reright. So wait a second. Is in
her name is Blue Fairy. The BlueFairy, it's not like Helen. No,
it's not Helen. She's the onethat, like gives him Jiminy
Cricket. She's the one thatbrings him to life as a wooden

(10:14):
boy. And then once he goesthrough his whole adventure,
which man? Listen to the listento the bonus episode this week,
because man Pinocchio hastwisted we talked about it. Oh
no, it is messed up. But twistedPecos messed up, but, but I
think they so he could justcause her, like, Hey, Blue
Fairy. Well, no, I mean, she'sthe Blue Fairy. She's that's
just what she's known as. She'sknown as the Blue Fairy. What

(10:35):
does he call her? Hey fairy, Idon't think he calls her
anything. Ma'am. Probably, youprobably calls her ma'am, Blue
Fairy. Hey, ma'am, thank you,ma'am, okay, do we know that
it's a woman? Yes, always prettyfairies, I know. But in the
animated fairies can be nonbinary. I mean that there's a
lot of different.
I'm just saying she definitelygoes by, she, her, she, her

(10:57):
pronouns at the Blue Fairy, butno actual name, just the Blue
Fairy. Well, Fairy Godmotherdoesn't have a name either. It's
fairy. Her first name is fairy, last name, godmother. This
woman's name is blue and fairyis her last name. Interesting. I
mean, it's the Blue Fairy. She'sWhen you wish upon a star, okay,

(11:21):
I'm just saying I don't knowthat in Disney lore, she is
known by a lot of people, and soyou're making her like the
person who leads this wholenighttime parade. Feels like a
stretch. That's this is a youproblem, because we all would
recognize her as leading thisnighttime parade.
Listeners,I don't think so. Listeners,

(11:43):
this is a call to action. Idisagree. Do you know who the
Blue Fairy is? Would you haveknown who the Blue Fairy is
before this delightfulconversation? So here's what I'm
saying. Like, say you're at theMagic Kingdom and you're sitting
there on Main Street eating yourice cream, waiting for the
nighttime parade to start. Andhere comes nighttime parade, and
it's led by a Blue Fairy. Wouldyou be like, Oh, that's the

(12:06):
fairy from Pinocchio? Yes,absolutely 100 I don't think so
you're wrong, because you arejust you are on a streak of
being wrong. Just sit there inyour wrongness and be wrong. I
don't think sothe rock and roller coaster
guitar is getting a new paintjob. Okay, what colors it can
be? We don't know, but probablyred Ray it.

(12:30):
I thought they weren't going toget going away from airspeed.
They are. But this is reallyjust a jumping off point for me
to talk about that, becauseagain, while we were on a break,
the world learned about hugechanges coming to Hollywood
Studios related to the Muppets.
The Muppets courtyard is goingaway entirely. Muppets, 3d all
that's going away. That wholearea where Miss piggies of batch
of liberty, the even mamaMelrose, I think, is going away.

(12:52):
Oh my gosh. Pizza Place, Rizzopizzas, yeah, yep. It's going to
become a monsters. Inc, themedland entirely. Oh, that whole
area is going to be a landmonsters. Inc, yes. So we're
going to get the roller coaster.
That's a suspension rollercoaster, that's like going
through the door. Okay, that'scool. And so the Muppets are

(13:14):
going to be taking over theroller coaster, rock and roller
coaster. Okay, right? I'm hopingit's going to be a, you know, Dr
teeth, Electric Mayhem typedeal. Okay, so then there could
still be a guitar involved. Oh,yeah, 100% it will still have a
band. Yeah, yeah, the ElectricMayhem. Okay,
I mentioned the meds, right?
What I'm saying is, it's themeds. Is why you don't remember

(13:35):
the blueberry No, and it's notwhy I don't know the Electric
Mayhem either. I'm just saying Ithink you'd be a little nicer to
me. This being my first verticalday, I'll be honest, I think I'm
on the way down five days. So,you know, think you're headed
towards few horizontal days. Allright. Well, fun for us all good
times up in here.

(13:56):
And just one quick note beingthat we are officially in March
now we can start counting downthe days to march 21 and the
release of Snow White.
Snow White, the live action. Oh,the live action. Snow White,
okay, yes, with evil queen, played by golgot Wonder Woman
herself. I mean, that thingthat's, yeah, the mirror is

(14:17):
lying. I mean, she is absolutelythe fairest of them. All right.
No, yeah, she's gorgeous. That'sinteresting, because, you know,
snow is so marginalized in theparks. Do you think with the
with the Resurgence? Yeah, whereit sees some more snow, we'll
see a resurgence? Yes, okay, good for snow. I hope so. I hope
that happens. I hope she gets aresurgence of merchant and love.

(14:40):
Yeah, I think it's alsoimportant to note Well, Rachel
zegler, who was in West SideStory, is snow. I think it's
important also to note that Liloand Stitch, the I'm using scare
quotes here, live action, Liloand Stitch releases on my
birthday this year, May 23 Oh,yeah, that's cool. Suddenly
stitch will have a place in myheart, I'm pretty sure.
Oh, that's fun. I didn't knowthey were doing a Lilo and

(15:02):
Stitch live action. He had acommercial during the Super
Bowl. He got onto the field andwas running around. Oh, that's
awesome. Kind of chaos. I don'twatch the Super Bowl. He does.
Yeah, I met him on the boat.
He's one of my I love stitch onthe boat. He's one of my
favorites on Dream light Valleyby far. I love him. You ready
for your tomorrow land? I'mready. All right,
okay, so I'm doing something alittle different. We don't

(15:25):
normally handle a lot of thefestivals at Disneyland,
certainly a bad thing, almostnever, yeah, and so what we
don't realize there is thattheir schedule is different than
Disney World. So the Food andWine Festival at Disneyland
kicked off on Friday. It'sprobably the best festival
there. Yeah, it probably is openFebruary 28 and it goes through

(15:45):
April the 21st so they've gottheir food and wine festival
going on right now. Now we'vealso talked about how Disneyland
has totally different food attheir festivals than we do right
like, they lean very heavilyinto Hispanic culture, and they
do an amazing job with some foodout there. So I thought I would
just go just around to each ofthe booths, and they don't have
as many booths as we get atEpcot, but go around each of the

(16:07):
booths and tell you what I thinkis my favorite from each booth.
Okay, but first of all, there isa souvenir mug for those
interested. It is the DisneyCalifornia Adventure food and
wine corksicle eco stacker. NowI'm gonna tell you. This is what
it looks like is a stainlesssteel Solo cup. I'm not sold on
it, but hey, if that floats yourboat, then go for it, right?

(16:29):
That's up to you. Now, the coolthing is, is they have some
bookable experiences at theirfood and why they have four
bookable experiences. The firstone is cocktails at Sonoma
terrace. Now this is hosted bycork sickle. This is where you
can go to seminars dedicated tobeer, cider and wine tasting at
Carthay Circle, you can joinwinemaking experts in special

(16:51):
tastings and pairings, right?
All these are bookable events atthe hearthstone lounge. They
have what is called a walk onthe Silverado trail at Mariposa
pool deck in the GrandCalifornian Hotel and Spa. And
this is specialty wine andcuisine pairings. And then what
I think looks the coolest is thedinner and Scotch event. This is

(17:12):
Trey past hors d'oeuvres, livemusic and exceptional scotches
paired with an intimate fourcourse dinner experience. Oh,
that is that sounds cool, right?
Yes, that sounds like a lot offun. So we don't get bookable
experiences like that at ourfestival. So I thought that was
a cool thing to note. Now I willsay too, I think their booths

(17:35):
have amazing names. So thisfirst booth is called cluck a
doodle, move. Oh, that's hard tosay, right? Cluck, a doodle,
moo. And so what they've gothere. These are dishes that have
both chicken and steak. Now,their dishes look like dishes.
These don't look like smallplates, small bites. Okay, these
don't look like small bites.
These look like dishes. So thisone is a grilled skirt steak and

(17:57):
chipotle chicken with Spanishrice and salsa verde. So it
looks like a chicken leg andskirt steak on rice with salsa
verde. It looks fairly serious.
There's another booth calledgolden dreams, and at that booth
you're gonna want the musubifried rice. This is an Aulani

(18:21):
Resort inspired steamed ricewith egg, glazed spice, ham,
umami, mayo and Furie, cocky. Ofcourse, it is now on the side of
that you would also like to getthe joffrey's drink at that
booth, which is a blueberrypancake, cold brew. What this is

(18:43):
Mexico origin coffee, oat milk,Demerara, maple and brown
butter, syrups topped withblueberry sweet cream, garnished
with cinnamon flavored cereal, crumble. Come on, I'm not a
coffee guy, but I would drinkthat now I know Jeffrey knows
what he's doing. There's anotherbooth called La style. This is

(19:04):
where you get the cutest hot dogI have ever seen in my life.
This is a mini la street dogwith jalapeno mayo, pepper and
onion relish, nues, keys,Applewood, smoked bacon and
crispy onions. It is the cutesthot dog I have ever seen in
surprise. I never thought I'deven hear you say, it's
adorable, absolutely adorable.

(19:27):
The next one we're gonna hit isthe Mercado day, and to host, I
mispronounced that, please seeprior notes about medication I
am on here we have a birya Macand cheese with onion cilantro
sauce and a tortilla crunch. Nowyou're gonna get that. So that's

(19:47):
basically like some meat on topof mac and cheese. You're gonna
get that along with their Cafeday, oh yeah, Tres Leches cake.
Oh yeah. This is topped withpiloncillo Chantilly.
Cinnamon and a Mickey shapedcookie on the side of that, you
will also have their raspberryhorchata some booth, which is

(20:10):
raspberry almond and cinnamonsyrups, rice pudding, milk and
condensed milk garnished withskewered raspberries. That's not
alcoholic, no that you need allof those things again, like they
do Mexican there at Disneyland, they do a level that Disney
World can't even comprehend.
Like it, yeah, it's phenomenal.
Next booth is peppers, Caliintake.

(20:33):
There's a dash Cali becausewe're in Cali because Cali
intake peppers are, yeah, KelliInte. So this is fun. Here is
where you're gonna get your cornchip chili pie with impossible
beef. This is a Frito Frito Pie.
Yeah.
Okay, so this is seasonedimpossible beef, spicy cheese

(20:54):
sauce, tomatoes, slicedjalapenos and cream on top of a
bed of Fritos. I love that forthat 100% Yeah. Now here, this
is cool. They've got this drinkat a couple different places,
a pickle whiskey sour cocktail.
This is bourbon pickle juice, lime juice, sweet and sour.
Garnish with taheen, chili limesauce, taheen and a pickle

(21:17):
spear. When they say a picklespear. I'm telling you, there's
an entire pickle in this drink.
There's a lot going on in thatdrink. Nothing in there. Sounds
like something I would like, except for that pickle pickle,
except for that pickle juice, yeah, but that pickle juice is
really messed up with all theother stuff they put in there. I
don't know what to think aboutthat one. The next one we're

(21:40):
gonna hit is uncork California.
Now, the name of that boothheavily implies you're going to
go there to drink wine, and ifyou want to absolutely go there,
they've got tons of it, but whatyou really want is their Mickey
shaped macaron made withSnickers bar pieces. This is a
massive Mickey macaron, achocolate Mickey shaped macaron
filled with caramel ganache madewith Snickers bar pieces. That

(22:03):
thing is huge, and so, you know, don't go there for the wine. You
need to get that Mickey shapedmacaron with the Snickers bar
pieces and a caramel ganache. Imean, a Mickey shaped macaron is
always the right way to go,always the way to go, always the
way to go. Next you're gonna popon over to Clarabelle, hand
scooped ice cream, where you canget her strawberry shortcake.

(22:24):
This is Angel Food Cake, vanillaice cream, strawberry syrup,
whip topping and freshstrawberries. Thank you life.
Thank you Clarabelle.
Now this next one again, y'allcorn dog Castle is the name of
this place. Okay? Corn chipchili pie featuring impossible
beef. So another Frito pie withimpossible it is okay, but this

(22:47):
corn dog Castle also has whatlooks like a corn dog that's
been dipped in the chili pie andfried. There you go. That's what
it looks like at corn dogcastle. I mean, again, corn dog
Castle sounds like a sounds likesomething you get at the state
fair. Yeah, yeah. Except, exceptyou're also at Disney World now,
Disneyland now, once again,Disneyland wins on the churros.

(23:10):
So there are four churros. Youneed four different locations.
The first one is at Terrantreats. This is going to be your
creme brulee churro with pastrycream, strawberry Kelli and
crushed brule sugar churros atHollywood land is going to be
your peach tea churro. Ooh.
Classic churro rolled in peachsugar with diced peaches and
peach tea sauce, and then overin your goofy sky school or

(23:33):
senior buzz churros at Pixarpier, that's where you're going
to get your mango sticky riceinspired churro. Classic churro
rolled in sugar with Sticky Riceand Mango pieces. And then
you're gonna pop over toWillie's churros at Buena Vista
Street for a strawberry caramelchurro with whip topping
strawberries and caramel. Yeah, yeah. Like, they just do churros

(23:55):
at Disneyland. They don't messaround. They do them. Okay, so
that's really what you needthere at the food and wine. Now
I've got an honorable mention.
Okay, okay. Honorable Mentiongoing out to salt and straw.
Okay, okay, right? The Disneyvillage, the Disney Disney
village area, honor bunch intosalt and straw. They have a pink

(24:18):
rose a and watermelon sorbet.
This is a watermelon in rosesorbet with a rose a raspberry
jam. Well, okay, okay. Next they have an
aged dark ale with Manchego Oh,an aged dark ale fudge swirled
with Manchego cheese and tartcherry marmalade. There's a lot

(24:43):
going on there. It's a lot goingon there. So I'm giving them
honorable mentions that specificthough, to that salt and straw,
because there's one over in onthe East Coast too. I would
guess it this is listed on thefood and wine. Okay, so this is,
let's say.
Get you the Food Wine listed forthe Food and Wine Festival menu.
I mean salt and straw reallyknocks it out of the park all

(25:07):
the time. They do. They reallydo. But I felt like they had
upped their game just slightlythere enough, just a couple of
to edge out that honorablemention here. Yeah. So
we've never done Food and WineFestival Disneyland, and I
really enjoyed perusing thatmenu. That was a lot of

(25:27):
fun. I loved it. Yeah, we'llhave to do it. Still have to go,
okay, little bit of a turn here.
I so I was scrolling to socialsrecently, and an actor that I'd
never heard of before, a namedPat Manzi,

(25:50):
made me aware of something thatI thought at first, well, that's
garbage. You don't know. How doyou know that? But then I
started researching thisDisney wiki fandom.com helped
out with this. This is, this istotally the backstory of the
Black Pearl and Jack Sparrow.
That's awesome. How did theBlack Pearl become the Black

(26:13):
Pearl? Why does Jack Sparrowhave it? I love it when you do
back stories. Well, good, because I'm doing one tonight on
this, this very podcast good. Ilove it when you do that. Okay,
so here are some things toremember about moments in the
movies that will help. Okay, color this out. All right. We

(26:35):
learned early in The Curse ofthe Black Pearl that Sparrow
quote had a brush with the EastIndia Trading Company when
Norrington discovers thatSparrow has been branded as a
pirate. Okay, remember that?
Yep, we also learned in DeadMan's Chest that Sparrow has a
debt to be paid to Davy Jones.
But we aren't exactly sure why.
We never really know why.

(26:57):
According to the movies, we alsoknow that Cutler Beckett. He's
the guy that was the head of theEast India Trading Company that
they were dealing with, right?
He was actually the director ofthe East India Trading Company
for West Africa. Okay, okay.
Why does he care so much aboutJack Sparrow? How does he even
know Jack Sparrow? What's theirmutual connection to the East

(27:17):
India Trading Company? Otherthan Norrington saying Jack
Sparrow had a brush with them, right, right? So just kind of
keep all that in mind. Okay, sohere's the backstory of how the
Black Pearl came to be.
Okay. Jack Sparrow was a captainof a ship called the wicked

(27:38):
winch, okay, okay. And he workedfor the East India Trading
Company, okay? As a regularemployee, as a regular employee,
he's the captain of this ship.
And what they did was theyhauled cargo for the East India
Trading Company. That's spicesand silks and fabrics and all
those things that we weretrading, you know, that were
being traded with the Far East, right?

(28:02):
Jack Sparrow was one of thecaptains of those ships, and his
ship was given to him. That shiphad been owned by the East India
Trading Company, and it wasknown as the wicked winch. Okay,
now it was a the cargo vesselsat the time were large. They had
to carry lots of car. There wasa merchant ship, right? So they
had carried lots of cargo. Theyhad some weaponry on them, but

(28:26):
not like a warship would have.
But they were also designed tobe fast, so that they could
maneuver in case of pirates, okay, so that's sort of what the
wicked wench was. So as I said,Jack would haul cargo for Cutler
Beckett in particular.

(28:48):
And at some point, Beckettwanted Sparrow to haul slaves.
Oh, Sparrow refused and freedslaves. Well, good job Jack.
Good job Jack. Way to go. JackSpence, there's a hole in that
hole. Theory, whether or notJack's a good, you know,
actually, a good guy neverreally know, right? Yep, but he

(29:09):
wouldn't. He wouldn't haulslaves. Okay, as punishment.
Cutler Beckett set the wickedwinch on fire and burned it
until it sank, okay, and then hebranded Jack Sparrow a pirate.
Literally, literally brand. Thatwas all part of the punishment

(29:29):
for Jack refusing to haul slavesfor Cutler Beckett, okay, okay.
Sparrow seeks out Davy Jones andmakes a deal with him if he
could, if he could resurface theWicked Witch and make Jack and
allow jack to be the pirate ofit again.

(29:50):
Then, then he would, Davy Jones said,
Yes, I'll do that, but I'llallow you to be the pirate of
that ship for 13 years.
Yes, but at the end of 13 years, you owe me 100 years of slavery
aboard the Flying Dutchman. Oh,Jack Sparrow agreed to that.
That's the debt that he owed toDavy Jones. Wow. Davy Jones does

(30:13):
raise the wicked winch, but whenit resurfaces, it's all charred
and black and its sales aretattered and blood. Jack Sparrow
renames the wicked winch theBlack Pearl. Black Pearl. Okay,
so that's really how he becomesJack Sparrow, the pirate captain

(30:34):
of the Black Pearl. And ofcourse, two years after that
is when first mate Barbosamutiny mutinies, leads a mutiny
strands jack on a desert island, and then they go on a 10 year
tear of piracy, which duringwhich got them cursed, right? So

(30:55):
Jack never really had his 13years did not that was Jack's
whole point, right? Once he gotthe ship back a year into it, we
land at the beginning of DeadMan's Chest. And what do we see
Jack doing at the beginning ofthat? He's looking for a way to
get control of Davy Jones'sheart. Because whoever controls
Davy Jones's heart controls DavyJones, ah, so he can get around

(31:19):
the whole 100 years of slaverything, whole 100 years of
slavery, that was his whole washis whole thing. He's
like, he's like, he's like, Inever had my 13 years, right? My
jerk first mate, 10 of my 13years, right? So, but we know
Jack also. He's he's not. He wasgoing to always try to, always

(31:40):
we try to get away out of it,yeah, get around that whole
deal, right? So that is how theBlack Pearl became the Black
Pearl. Now this is apparentlybacked up. There's a whole
series of books that werewritten as tie ins to the black
to the Pirates of the Caribbeanmovies, okay, right? So there's
like three or three books, Ithink, that take place prior to

(32:04):
the Black Pearl movie, and thenthere's some that take place
afterwards. And it we learn inthere that He was the captain of
the wicked winch, and so on andso forth. Okay, so,
couple of other little fun factshere.
There is a deleted scene DVD.
Remember DVDs? I remember DVDs?

(32:27):
Yeah, I'm sure this is on theDVD the extras, or whatever the
DVDs came with, or like a blueray. Oh, man, stop it now.
You're going crazy.
I'm sure that on the extras ofthe DVD or the blu ray,
you could get to the deletedscenes, but you can also just

(32:48):
find it on YouTube. All the allthe deleted scenes from the
pirates movies are out there onYouTube if you watch the deleted
scenes for at Worlds in the lastwell, not the last one, but the
last of that first trilogy.
Okay, there's a scene. There's ascene in that movie, anyway,
where, where Sparrow and CutlerBeckett are in a room together,
and they're dealing they'refiguring out who's going to do

(33:11):
what Cutler Beckett wants tofind his way to the pirate
hideout where they're thepirate court is meeting all
Okay, and so they're dealingthey're working out a way to
solve both their problems andand the deleted. There's a
deleted segment of thatconversation where Cutler
Beckett is trying to explain tojack the importance of hauling

(33:34):
car of the East India TradingCompany hauling cargo. And Jack
responds, people are not cargo.
Ah, we didn't get to see that inthe release of the movie, but
that's a deleted scene that'sinteresting. So that that that
little moment alone, right? Saysthese two, that's where their

(33:58):
history comes from. That'sinteresting. So if they branded
Jack a pirate, that would meanhe he can't be nobody else will
hire him. So you could say, hireby another legitimate Well,
yeah, technically, that's right, but you know, later on, I mean,
actual history suggests thatEngland, at the very least,

(34:21):
hired pirates to serve the RoyalNavy, and they called him
privateers. And in fact, in Ithink, in the fourth one, the
one that's got BlackbeardBarbosa, is we find him working
as a privateer for the RoyalNavy. Even though he was a
pirate. Pirates working for theRoyal Navy were privateers, so
he could have probably donesomething along those lines,

(34:42):
right? Doesn't seem like a JackSparrow kind of gig, though.
He's not really a corporate man.
No, he's not really a totalline. What got him in trouble
with the East India TradingCompany? Yeah, I could see that.
So,so let's see in up until 2006
2006 is when they.
Sort of changed parts of theCaribbean to be the ride, to be

(35:04):
like the movie elements in it.
But prior to that, it always hadthat scene early in the ride,
where the where the ship isfiring on the on the fort, that
ship up until 2006 and themovies and all that was also the
wicked winchthat was the name of that ship.
Okay, so that's where it'sreally where the name of that

(35:25):
how would we have known that? Imay have been able to see it on
the ship, but in terms of thestory that went along with the
with the ride, that's what thatwas the weekend winch. And now
it's Black Pearl, and barbos ison it. Yeah, I don't know if I
still, I still think it's got adifferent name now, but it's
Barbosa. It is Barbosa that's onthe ship that fires at us. Yes,
yeah, that's interesting.

(35:48):
There's a series of books. Let'ssee the last movie sort of, sort
of retcons the whole thing, but like, because it says he
gets that compass from theSpanish right. But in that last
movie, at the very beginning ofit, we see young Jack Sparrow
sailing a ship. These theSpaniards are chasing them. That

(36:11):
ship in that movie is also theWicked Witch, okay, young Jack
Sparrow in there. Okay, so justinteresting. So they could still
do another movie. They could gobackwards and get they could go
backwards. Yeah? Pretty cool.
Yep, yep. So Star Wars thing, yeah, that's a whole, you know?
That's the whole back story ofthe Black Pearl and Jack Sparrow

(36:33):
and all that highly new CutlerBeckett all that was a fun
little research assignment Igave myself this weekend. Yeah,
that does sound like a fun one.
