Chris (00:01):
Stupid kinda stupid, or whatever the infernal thing is.
This is the Supercalifragilisticawesome Disney Podcast where
each week we discuss, youguessed it, Disney

Kelli (00:12):
things you know, things you don't know and things you
didn't know you needed to know.
Well,

Chris (00:17):
as Walt would say, the way to get started is to quit
talking and begin doing oh

Kelli (00:21):
by the way, I can do this. Okay, please stand clear
of the doors poor footballmantenga c'est la Hado de las
puertas

Chris (00:28):
welcome aboard Disney fam Hello out there Disney fam. My
name is Chris and I'm Kelly. Weare so happy that you are here
back with us again. Folks. Weare like going to set new
records this month for downloadsand I am I am humbled. I cannot
even believe how excited Clearlyeverybody is for this podcast.

(00:53):
That's included.

Kelli (00:54):
In addition to us.

Chris (00:58):
Yeah, so we had Oh, you're wearing Yoda ears literal
Yoda ears.

Kelli (01:04):
Yes. And they are very fragile. Are they these are
maybe my most fragile ears. Theband is not heavy enough to
withstand the weight of theears. And Yodas

Chris (01:15):
ear hair the white ear hair is here. It's a fabulous
detail but very delicate justabout melts

Kelli (01:21):
off in the rain. So I mean I love these years but they
are very, very fragile but theyare absolutely on topic for me.

Chris (01:30):
Oh, all right.

Kelli (01:32):
Hey honey, who listened to us this week?

Chris (01:35):
We had downloads from Van Texas. Van ban VA in Texas.
Little less than 3000 Fun folks.
Northwest 26 miles northwest ofTyler, Texas. Okay. Clear Water
Clearwater Florida.

Kelli (01:51):
Clearwater Clearwater.
People in Clearwater are used tobe in Clearwater Yeah,

Chris (01:58):
it's Clearwater for sure.
It's my kind of place Sun sand,Tampa Bay to the east, the Gulf
of Mexico to the west. Loveeverything. About Clearwater,
Florida. We also 29 days agothis very quaint little southern
town celebrated the 88th runningof the Carolina cup races. Oh,
my Camden, South Carolina, South

Kelli (02:22):
Carolina. We should have worn flowery dresses we had we
should

Chris (02:25):
have 29 days ago.

Kelli (02:27):
Oh my goodness. The Carolina cup went to the
Carolina

Chris (02:31):
cup and didn't see one horse that's what I was usually
my experience.

Kelli (02:36):
Everybody's experienced.
I don't even know where thehorses were.

Chris (02:44):
So welcome Camden, South Carolina and Huddersfield in the
UK. Ryder Hutter ATDD er sfield, Huddersfield right in the
middle, sort of betweenSheffield Leeds and Manchester.
Okay, it's a wonderful footballhistory there and shot in

(03:05):
Huddersfield but I won't beclose to them. I don't think
you'll make the trip up there.
No.

Kelli (03:10):
All right, but still welcome. And hey, if you want to
come see me in London, June 5 or28th.

Chris (03:17):
Feel free Feel free. You ready for some mainstream
reaction? Yes. All right. Okay, well, as is common. Now. We
start off with the continuingsaga of Ron DeSantis. blowing
his own toes off in his personalfight with Disney. It's gotten
so funny. And here's here's whathappened in the last week. So

(03:38):
great. Okay. The Florida Senatepassed a bill that would void
Disney's agreement with theReedy Creek board before
DeSantis is board took over andalso the new board met this week
and voted to declare theprevious development agreement
null and void. Within minutes ofthat declaration, Disney finally

(03:59):
sued DeSantis and the members ofthe new board right. The weighed
in on this honestly, Oh, yes.
Disney is not suing forfinancial damages. Their suit
alleges that DeSantis and thenew board has acted in specific
retaliation to harm theirbusiness in violation of
Disney's first amendment right.
To have a political opinion thatdiffers from governmental

(04:20):
leaders. Yep. Right. You know, and I know they stopped donating
also, but donations arepolitical speech. They're sued
simply seeks to rollback thedecisions and legislative
actions that have been taken inretaliation intended to harm
their business. The timingobviously suggests that Disney's
lawyers had been prepping forthis moment for months and as
soon as the declaration was madeby them, they were right. They

Kelli (04:44):
are three steps ahead of him. I mean, they know exactly
what he's going to do. I

Chris (04:48):
think that that Disney, the ability to have corporate
lawyers that are liable to eatstate lawyers for lunch, is
probably Pretty good possibilitythey

Kelli (05:01):
it seriously it's a chess game and they are five moves
ahead of him. I think so too.
But which is fantastic. I loveit so much. We'll

Chris (05:08):
see what happens. Yes.
Let's see here. Before the newboard officially voted to
nullify Disney's developmentagreement, independent business
leaders that operate in andaround Disney gathered to
respond in person during thecomment portion of the new
board's meeting. So reps fromwinebar George owners who was
there I think George waspersonally there. reps from

(05:31):
winebar, George T. Rex, cafe,Yak and Yeti, the boathouse,
splitsville,

Kelli (05:37):
all of Disney Springs,

Chris (05:38):
these are all independent business owners that operate in
conjunction with Disney. Yes,right so Gideons and Nasri and
yeah, that and that highlightsthe the issue here that yeah,
it's 75,000 Disney employeesthat you're screwing around
with. It's all the tax moneyfrom Disney but we're talking

(06:00):
hundreds of 1000s of tourismindustry Yes. People who rely on
the tourism industry of CentralFlorida to pay the bills

Kelli (06:09):
it's gonna hurt all of Florida like this is this is
your pissing match. Yes. Andit's your own personal one with
Disney and you're going toliterally ruin the state as a

Chris (06:20):
reminder all because they don't agree with continuing to
further marginalize marginalizedpeople. Yeah, that's it. They
won't they won't hate they won'thate the same people you want
them to hate. So

Kelli (06:33):
they would like to legislate hate and Disney says
no, we would rather put you

Chris (06:36):
your business at jeopardy and all of our constituents
proving out their hypocrisy atevery opportunity. A new one of
the new board members, MichaelSasso I'm assuming I'm saying
his name right. And his familyenjoying the day at the Magic
Kingdom oh my god taking in allthat woke ideology. In fact,

(06:58):
there's you can find videoonline of legislators who have
been recorded arguing to punishDisney in debates on the
legislation floor and and thenannouncing from the floor their
intent to immediately followthat debate with a family trip
to Disney joking quote, I'm notkidding here. If they still let
me in.

Kelli (07:17):
Oh my god.

Chris (07:20):
So and you know, I'm not one to make fun of people's
choices about how they decide todo their hair or whatever. But
I'm gonna hear from Mike Sasso.
Okay, what's besos losing hishair and as somebody who is
follically challenged. I get itman. It's it's, it's it's a
little bit humbling. I gottaGoogle this dude. Oh man. But
then a lot of folks take certainchoices to try to hide the fact

(07:45):
that hide the fact that we'rewe're losing our hair I'm not
I'm just going shorter andshorter and shorter until it'll
eventually just go awayentirely. He has gone with the
very rare option of growingclearly growing the hair in the
back of his head really reallyreally long and then combing it

(08:05):
forward and cutting it andcutting it cutting it like bangs
in the front and so does hishair part is right in the middle
of the back of his head

Kelli (08:17):
so what you're saying there is he's easy to spot he's
easy to spot

Chris (08:21):
and they did they spotted him right

Kelli (08:23):
picture strongest

Chris (08:24):
of what him online.
Straight or straight back. Imean, we you know, I had a
beloved college professor thatdid the same thing. We called
him Wolfman. And so Mike Hey,I'm just saying that this Disney
thing in the only bad choiceyou've made recently. So yeah,
there you go. That's the That'sour catch up there. Wow on it's

(08:46):
special. It's a special it'scertainly look he's gone with
certainly a decision he's gonewith

Kelli (08:54):
the choice he's made. And it is he and he's he's owning
that and I can appreciate that.
He's decided to really embraceit.

Chris (09:02):
Yeah, yes. Okay, so no mirrors or friends no mirrors or
friends. While there's a girlhas shared moving on, by the way
from sorry, debacle. We don'tusually make fun of people. No,
but some people that he broughtit on it. Some people aren't.

(09:22):
Oh, Disney World Shared six waysor a few ways that there'll be
celebrating Disney's 100thanniversary later this year.
Epcot will actually serve as thefocal point for their for the
Walt Disney World portion of thecelebration. Oh, yeah. You'll
you'll see like Disney 100 signsup at all the parks and things
like that. But Epcot is reallythe center that's keys for it.
You'll be able to meet and greetMickey and Minnie and their new

(09:43):
Platinum outfits at Epcot.

Kelli (09:45):
them on my on my dream like Valley Island.

Chris (09:48):
Oh yeah. And they're in their platinum in their platinum
outfits

Kelli (09:51):
and they do look really nice. They're nice looking.
Yeah. And I will say the rug toothat I could buy on my island. I
really like it's nice. It goeswell with their out That's
right. That's awesome. I've gotit all over the island there's
100 100 anniversary rugseverywhere.

Chris (10:07):
Spaceship Earth is getting a new beacons of magic
show. They actually justpreviewed this week to celebrate
Yes.

Kelli (10:15):
Yes had the Mickey heads.

Chris (10:18):
Yep, let's go. New selfie opportunities in front of Disney
100 backdrops and signage allover the place obviously new
food and drink options forDisney 100 Other Meet and Greet
character meet and greets andplatinum outfits at the resorts
which is cool. And Disney 100mementos like popcorn, buckets,
mugs cups, etc.

Kelli (10:39):
But you've said that the the popcorn buckets kind of a
disappointment?

Chris (10:43):
I think so but

Kelli (10:45):
they could have done for someone could have made a bucket
that's like in 100 or in adiamond with 100 on it. Sure,
Mickey head in his platinumoutfit

Chris (10:53):
or platinum jacket, something platinum blazer,

Kelli (10:55):
something some good that drippy platinum stuff that
they're doing that would havebeen great on about Sure.

Chris (11:00):
Sure. For sure. Hollywood Studios Pixar place will reopen
on May the 14th with a refreshedlook and new Meet and Greet
opportunities at the Edna Modeexperience. And a Mo Yeah, yeah,
she's coming back, bringing itback. Like a new Meet and Greet
will launch this summer allowingguests to interact with Ariel

(11:22):
from The live action release ofThe Little Mermaid Ooh, yes.
Kids will have a chance to seethemselves in this version of
Ariel that could never be donebefore. And that is great. In my
cynical Elde age here, I reallyhave have concerns about idiots
at the park or the who alreadytreat princesses with disrespect

(11:43):
oftentimes, so I worry aboutthis a little bit, but it's not
it's absolutely worth doing.

Kelli (11:49):
It is worth doing. And I will say my I would bet that
they plan for it and that theywould

Chris (11:54):
if if Chris here in Lincoln, Nebraska is thinking
about it. So

Kelli (11:58):
I think they'll have proper handlers for this right.
I'm

Chris (12:02):
a little bit of sad news here. You know, Disney is up to
about 4000 of the 7000 layoffsthat they had planned to make
through the summer. And D 23. Isgetting hit hard. So 25%
Probably of the D 23 team couldbe affected by the layoffs. So
we could see some restructuringof D 23. In the coming months.

(12:22):
Wow.

Kelli (12:23):
Okay, that's

Chris (12:24):
pretty that's kind of sad. Yeah, that is Disney lands.
Fantasmic will be suspended forat least three more weeks, which
is understandable consideringthe dragon self immolated a
couple of weeks ago

Kelli (12:35):
called the play splice. I think we should take a second

Chris (12:39):
take a minute take a minute

Kelli (12:41):
take a minute and fix it test it all

Chris (12:43):
Yeah, I can't believe only three more weeks frankly. I
know there's a there's a beachshow that they do you know if
they need to wear Maleficentsort of raises up into the air

Kelli (12:54):
but but they're not doing any show.

Chris (12:56):
That's right.

Kelli (12:56):
Any show Yeah, well I mean at the very least they've
got to make a new Dragon hit menothing melted the

Chris (13:04):
dragon other fire breathing animatronics have also
been temporarily system beensuspended other Disney parks?

Kelli (13:12):
Yeah, I would say we need to check those mechanisms. Yeah.

Chris (13:16):
And man in the Wasp quantum mania will debut on
Disney plus on May the 17th.
That's exciting for math forthose that are like me. And
Disney Animations wish trailerdebuted this week. Did you see
the

Kelli (13:30):
wish trailer? Oh, you wish out that? Yes. Yes.

Chris (13:33):
It looks like it's just going to be beautiful. And

Kelli (13:35):
why keep forgetting that you

Chris (13:38):
tell you over and over again. And the only thing that I
tell you you forget.

Kelli (13:41):
Oh my gosh.

Chris (13:43):
Oh my gosh. Okay. Oh, Chris Pine. By the way. Chris
Pine is going to play the roleof King magnifico, the ruler of
the land of Rose sauce in thatmovie. Okay. Rocks got

Kelli (13:52):
stuck with Chris Pine.

Chris (13:54):
You do? He was he was Captain Kirk in the new Star
Trek movies.

Kelli (13:59):
Really? I loved it.

Chris (14:04):
I know you're a big fan of that guy. He's doing okay
man, Okay, you ready? Ready? Allright, here we go.

Kelli (14:19):
So y'all, this week is May the fourth. Now for those of
y'all that know me, you knowthat I am a Star Wars officiant
Oh, yes. I mean, so I shoulddefinitely be the one to do this
segment. Yes, because my StarWars knowledge encyclopedic is

(14:39):
unparalleled.

Chris (14:40):
I would agree with that.
I agree. Your Star Warsknowledge is unparalleled.

Kelli (14:44):
But the beauty is we're talking about food, so I feel
very qualified. We're gonna dothe foodie guide to the May 4
Galactic goodies and I will linkto this on the website. This is
from Disney Parks blog when theyput out their foodie guides. So
it's really good Okay, so thisis cool. We've got Disneyland
Disney World and DisneylandParis all participating. But I

(15:07):
will tell you if you're a StarWars buff, highly recommend the
Disney Land version of DisneyLand has way more than any of
the other parks and theninteresting yeah, okay, so first
we're gonna start with thewhatever he's talking about is
the lightup acid spitter orsipper I cannot say that again
with a lanyard that includesYour choice of a fountain

(15:29):
beverage. That's it's the samesipper that I got the last time
we were there, it's like roundwith a little frog thing. Yeah,

Chris (15:37):
okay,

Kelli (15:37):
I don't know. I guess that little frog thing is an
acid spitter. I don't know whathe is. But but these are at Walt
Disney World and Disneylanddocking bay seven and ronto
roasters in both parks sothey're really putting a lot of
money into those into thosespitter people. Okay, so let's
head on over to docking bayseven this is Disney Land. They

(16:00):
have a temple y'all know dockingbay seven is just one of my
favorites. Love Love dockingmade them and you really love
it. They have a temple root leafand moss salad with a seasoned
guaido egg. This is a sweetsavory salad greens, brined
vegetables, roasted mushroomsfried potato noodles, oh, and a

(16:23):
soy marinated soft boiled egg.
You can also get this withoutthe egg. So now most of these
treats are going to be availablefor the month of May some into
early June. Okay. Some just onthe day of and so over at
galactic grill. We've got theDarth by chocolate parfait. This
one's only available availablemay 2 through sixth. Okay, and

(16:45):
it's what you would expect rightDarth Darth Vader and lots of
chocolate in parfait typesituation. Here's what I think
people ought to be super excitedabout is not the acid spitter
thing. There is a grow goo Siparhe is so adorable as a sipper,
they they show a picture of himon the website like sitting in

(17:07):
some grass. And he's holdinglike his little cup

Chris (17:12):
it is so just super is him holding a cup. Yes,

Kelli (17:15):
the zipper is him and he's holding his little cup. It
is so cute. Like people aregonna be fighting over that
that's available while supplieslast beginning May 3 Which means
if you're not there at 6am onMay 3 By noon, it's gone. It's
gone. So best wishes to you onthat. Mobile order is available.
So again, best wishes. Catsockets kettle by the way, we're

(17:38):
still at Disney Land, cat Sakaskettle has three popcorn
versions or two popcorn versionsand a muffin. Oh, our cat's
kettle doesn't have muffins. SoI think this is interesting.
She's got the syrup that valleymix which is a kettle corn a
sweet kettle corn. And thenshe's got the neon most mix
which is a savory sour cream andchive and you can get named

(18:00):
jelly fruit muffin, which is apassion fruit buttermilk muffin
with pineapple and blackberryjam. It looks delightful sounds
I mean it really does looksdelightful. Like blackberry jam
is underrated. Yeah, sure. Imean over at the milk stand.
Another amazing thing the Tinuswirl crunchy cereal. This is

(18:22):
blue milk topped with strawberryand grape candy pebbles. So I
want you to imagine the bluemilk. And it looks like somebody
poured a red. Like like a syrup.
Almost it so it's kind ofrunning down the sides on the
inside. Okay, but I think it'sgonna be like nerds. Nerd
candies. Yes. Yes. So I would Iwould definitely try that. At

(18:43):
Ogas Cantina. Okay, they havewhat they're calling a five
blossom bread with mustardcream. This is a warm pretzel
knot but it's really like afigure eight knot. Oh, it's
bigger. Okay, with a creamyhoney mustard dip. There's like
mustard seeds in the middle ofthe dip with little leaves. It
looks like a honey mustard dipwith a little pineapple in it

(19:07):
like I had to really zoom init's adorable. They also have a
ginger lime tea lemonade withsoju and this is so jus minute
made lemonade gulping unsweeticed tea having your line and
ginger flavors topped with amatcha foam home and it sounds
every bit as crazy as as I justread the beverage carts at Star

(19:30):
Wars Galaxies edge has garlicpuffs which are puffed cheese
chips and at the fruit kartracart and lemonade cart in
Tomorrowland you can get thatgrow goose slipper

Chris (19:47):
okay so I mean those those cast members better get
ready

Kelli (19:50):
plan because it's gonna go Downtown Disney at Marcelino
confectionery you can get a growgoo candy apple which is a
grainy Smith dipped in caramelwith marshmallow ears in robed
in colored white chocolate withgold standing sugar for sanding
sugar for the belt. He isadorable as a candy apple. I

(20:11):
mean just too much

Chris (20:13):
find me a way that Greg is not.

Kelli (20:16):
At the Disneyland Resort this is at Grand California
Hotel and Spa. In Hearthstonelounge you can get a ginger
daiquiri, which is celebratingissue and at the Grand
Californian hotel lobby cart.
This is throughout the end ofMay. Star Wars sugar cookie, a
Wookie Cookie, fret lightsaberlightsabers a falcon lollipop

(20:37):
storm trooper crisp rice treatstretchy, tropical whoopie pie
and a galaxy macaroon box. SoI'm telling you Disney Land is
where it's at. Okay, but let'spop over to Disney World. All of
this is Hollywood Studios. Oh,okay. And the commissary. The
backlot Express pizza Rezo andRosie's all American Cafe they

(21:01):
have a jettison juice, which islemonade and watermelon served
the glow cube non alcoholicbacklight. backlot Express cache
I'm struggling today. They havea Darth Vader cupcake, which
looks amazing.

Chris (21:19):
backlot express a lot of times has those I mean, you
know, chocolate

Kelli (21:24):
cake with a chocolate peanut butter butter cream
dipped in dark chocolate ganacheedged in chocolate flakes and
topped with a chocolate DarthVader. I mean, I think I just
got diabetes reading that butthey also have the Wookie

(21:45):
Cookie, which is to oatmealcookies with vanilla cream and
his little sash across the top.
It's really cute. docking bayseven has the oil puff, which is
a raspberry cream puff with apassion fruit mousse that's only
available on the fourth andfifth.

Chris (22:01):
Oh wow. Very special.

Kelli (22:03):
And Pizza Rezo and the trolley car Cafe only on fourth
and fifth have the dark sidechocolate creation. So there's I
think there's like a man orsomething that's like red and
yellow kind of swirl and he'sgot like horns. You know? He's
red and he's got little brownhorns. It's gonna come to you

Chris (22:24):
and no no dark. That sounds like Darth Maul to me.
Okay, great.

Kelli (22:27):
It's him. It's a malted milk job.

Chris (22:33):
Now we get it with a

Kelli (22:35):
raspberry mousse filling slivered almonds and the
chocolate shortbread cookiethat's adorable. That's even
better. Now that other what isthat? And then the churro carts
at the market have thelightsaber churros with
chocolate sauce. So these arered or blue churros served in
like a like a paper holder so itlooks like you're holding a

(22:58):
lightsaber really cool. Disney'sPolly has at the pineapple
lanai. They always bring somespecial stuff or the Millennium
Falcon Star Wars soft serveSunday, which is a galactic grey
vanilla soft serve with mintflavor chocolate cream,
Campbell's chocolate drizzle,chocolate brownie asteroid

(23:25):
pieces and starred us sparkleswith the Millennium Falcon
chocolate piece. Okay, and thennow we're at Disney Springs.
Okay, where you can imagine likean archery is just blowing
everybody away. They have aQueen Amidala chocolate pinata,
which is a dark chocolate pinatafilled with Ruby chocolate and

(23:48):
raspberry bark. It looksamazing. They have an Ahsoka pop
which is a plant based coconutand blueberry swirl and robed in
dark chocolate. And then theyhave swirl and then at they have
a Millennium Falcon pop. Whichis a milk chocolate pot with

(24:09):
Chris Earl's. And then it swirlson the wider it can get your
dough whip. Mango swirled withan hoburne Euro soft serve and a
red velvet cone with a toastedgraham cracker crumbs chocolate
rocks and a BB eight ediblegarnish. Oh, they're calling
that the loyal the loyalastromech swirl. And then the

(24:33):
only thing left is one littlething at Disneyland Paris but
I'm telling you it's all theyneed. Because it's just
perfection. Okay, what it ishere is to grow boomerang. White
chocolate icing and macro. He'sgot ears. He's got the little it
looks like he's eating like he'sblowing a bubble. Oh with the
white chocolate icing. It is soadorable. Adorable.

Chris (24:56):
They really did something when they when they introduced
the world to grow. Yeah,

Kelli (25:00):
they really did. I mean, I think they Disneyland Paris
could have come on a little bitstronger than just one thing.
Sure. But maybe, I don't know.
Maybe Star Wars. isn't that bigthere?

Chris (25:11):
I mean, they've got Hyperspace Mountain.

Kelli (25:13):
That's true. It is true.
I am so glad that that guy'sname is is Darth Maul. Because
that makes that treat just soperfect. Thank God I knew that.

Chris (25:24):
I mean, but showing off those Star Wars

Kelli (25:28):
really sold it is what it did. But I just kept him well
right further red and yellowswirled around is really red and
black, but okay with the brownhorns.

Chris (25:42):
Yo, man. Good job, honey.
I want to eat all that, too. Sowe got our latest edition of
Walt Disney World WWE magazine.
So we have I mean, we love thisthing. If we hadn't said So
recently, this is absolutelyworth it. If you're a big Disney

(26:05):
fan. There DLR Disneyland Resortversion is just as good and it
focuses all on DisneylandDisneyland Resort. This was the
Walt Disney World version. Welove it. We love them. They do a
great job. Quality magazine istop notch. Photography is
photography is out of bounds. Sothey wanted their articles this

(26:26):
week focused was all about theDisneyland sorry, the Walt
Disney World parades, the MagicKingdom parades, and so you know
what I thought just MagicKingdom just Magic Kingdom
parades. You know what Ithought? I thought let's let's
talk about the parades at theMagic Kingdom is what I do now.
It most of my life as a Disneypark person. I will it wasn't
into the daytime parades.

Kelli (26:47):
I didn't mean daytime parades. I was talking about
nighttime.

Chris (26:50):
Oh yeah, well the nighttime rates I love a
nighttime parade I really do.
But the daytime when the I couldtake or leave that that has
changed though in recent years.
Mainly partly because Iappreciate more the effort and
coordination that goes intothese things and because you
enjoy sitting I do enjoy sittingat the parks and taking it in

(27:14):
take taking things in enjoysitting as we get older and the
and the festival of fantasyBrighton in particular has sort
of one. I liked the festivalfantasy for sure. So how did the
parade start at Walt DisneyWorld? Well, they really started
at Disneyland obviously. They'vebeen running since the first day
the park opened in 1955 atDisneyland The first one was

(27:34):
simply called the Opening DayParade.

Kelli (27:37):
Wow, they know hard for that one. Same

Chris (27:41):
thing that's gonna happen on the Walt Disney World version
two through the years prior andenter the year prior to the
opening of Magic Kingdom in1971. They actually ran 17
Different parades at Disneylandin some form or another. A lot
of times even for just specificmoments or launches like the
Zorro Days Parade there in 1958and 59. Okay, interesting. So

Kelli (28:05):
Mara is a man with a sword right he is. Is he Disney?

Chris (28:09):
Oh yeah. Okay. But but also seasonal parades like the
the Disneyland candlelightprocessional is effectively a
parade. Right? They walked downMain Street USA, okay. At the
Magic Kingdom, the first paradewas held on opening day, October
1 1971, and was just called thecharacter parade. We didn't have
all the amazing colorful floatsthat we had today. But many of

(28:31):
the same characters we see todaywere there alone with talented
musicians like the dapper dance, and antique cars. It included
characters from Snow White, andthe seven doors Dumbo, Alison
Wonderland, Bambi, The JungleBook, among others. Mickey
usually is the grand finale ofmost of the parades. But that
particular braid, he actuallykicked off the parade he was at

(28:52):
the front. All the othercharacters followed him. Okay,
Magic Kingdom has been home to19 different themed parades
since they first launched andfestival fantasy is the most
recent. After reopeningfollowing the pandemic Disney
launched cavalcades Yeah,

Kelli (29:11):
I remember that. Which I love.

Chris (29:13):
I think they're great.
They're like they're manyparades, right? There are many
parades.

Kelli (29:19):
People don't fight for space. I get it. I get it,
honey. Yeah, don't fight forspace, you can always get a good
good view. That's

Chris (29:26):
right. The these were really sort of ingenious at a
time when the park wanted toprovide this kind of
entertainment, but thought itbest not to create a scenario
where half the park was standingin close proximity for up to 20
minutes at a time. These runmore often so the chance of
seeing it increased with smallercrowds at each viewing and they
only took a minute or two to gopast. They are like I said small

(29:51):
parades, usually just one veryelaborately themed float that
celebrates a number ofcharacters related to a theme
for example, Well, you can seethe Disney adventure friends
cavalcade their features Miguelfrom cocoa. The Incredibles
Mallanna Mirabelle right. Ifyou're really lucky, you might

(30:12):
see the rainy day cavalcade thisis a pretty it's only do it on
rainy days, right? is prettycute.

Kelli (30:20):
Oh, how cute. Tell me they're wearing like coats and
boots. No. So

Chris (30:24):
here's how they do it.
Glad you asked. It is just whatit sounds like. So cast members
are wearing rain gear from headto toe. And like they lead the
parade with a little sign thatsays Disney's rainy day
cavalcade. And right behindthese cast members. You'll have
Mickey and Minnie in an oldantique car with a cover with
like, with a tarp on it. Oh, howcute. Yeah, so they come rolling

(30:47):
by, you know, you can see themvery clearly. And then you know,
those omnibuses that run up anddown Main Street like in the
mornings. They're involved inthe main street transportation
company who runs these Omnibuses, they will follow Mickey
minis car, and they often carrya lot of princesses or a lot of
princesses or other characters.

(31:10):
Right. And these are these arepretty cool, because I mean, you
you're standing in the rain, don't watch it. They're covered
up by the omnibus roof and thecar roof. But they're more at
ground level than they usuallyare in a parade. And so you get
like you can get pretty closeright to them, you can feel
pretty close to that school. TheFestival of fantasy parade is

(31:33):
currently the biggest paraderunning at Magic Kingdom it
launched in 2014. To celebratethe addition of new fantasyland.
New fantasyland technicallyopened in like I think December
of 2012. And then a year later, they launched the festival of
fantasy. It's hard to believethat the new fantasyland is 12
years old. Yeah,

Kelli (31:50):
no, but I guess I didn't 11 years old. I've never really
thought about it as like newfantasy land. I get that.

Chris (31:58):
So it typically includes characters typically because
sometimes they'll pull a floatout, you know, for whatever. But
it typically includes charactersand flows from over a dozen
Disney films ranging from SnowWhite to the frozen movies. The
showstopper here is of coursethe enormous steampunk version
of the Maleficent dragon. Right?
Is

Kelli (32:18):
it still blowing fire right now?

Chris (32:20):
No, right now. She's not allowed to blow fire. But
normally she would. She's fast.
She's fishy three feet long.
Yeah, she's really impressive.
Yeah, she slowly Miranda'smeanders down the parade route.
And during normal operationsstops every once a while and
literally breathes out a streamof fire that is very, very
dramatic. No, she's

Kelli (32:42):
serious about it for sure.

Chris (32:43):
It's all really pretty ridiculous honestly, and and
frankly the tangled float whosecomes to my memory to its this
is the big it's a huge floatwith like these badly huge
battle axes that are swingingback and forth. And like
characters from the movie arestanding on those battle axes.
It is crazy.

Kelli (33:02):
That is impressive. Yeah, I didn't remember that till you
said it. But no, you're right.
That's good one. Yep.

Chris (33:07):
Magic Kingdom also hosts seasonal parades, which usually
can only be seen during specialticketed events like the not so
scary Halloween party, or VeryMerry Christmas Party. The booty
parade or Mickey's once upon aChristmas time parade are those
they feature over the topcostuming and performances the
grave diggers, that ghostlyballroom dancers, and often even

(33:28):
the bride from the HauntedMansion can be seen in that
booty parade. There were in likemovie quality makeup to make Oh,
yes, their costumes often emit aghostly glow. Yes, I just tell
you Google the grave diggersperformance in the parade on you
know on Google or something?
They're choreographed routine isso so creepy uncle. Yeah. The 10
soldiers from the Christmasparade are just a dog on

(33:52):
delight. And the ones that haveChristmas time breaking can be
seen usually in late Decemberright around the holidays
without going to the ticketedevent as a special you know,
Christmas time, okay, there.

Kelli (34:07):
Okay, that's cool.

Chris (34:09):
Blows me away. Also, the these things are just legit
spectacles, the logistics aroundthem are crazy cast members will
prep the streets by putting downthese, you know, taped lines for
walkways. And then they roll outthe ropes and then they carry it
pull up all that stuff and thenthey put it back down again for
the next one. Right? They don'tleave that stuff out there
between you know, two showingsof the parade, which is wild to

(34:32):
me. They had to play trafficcontrollers with all the people.
The performers travel all theway from Frontier land through
Liberty Square around the hubdown Main Street and through
times, Times Square through townsquare. And if you attend Magic
Kingdom during the holidays, youmight witness this four times as
festival a fantasy is going torun twice. And then the special

(34:54):
seasonal parade is probably alsogoing to run twice in the
evenings. Wow. It's a lot goingon there. A lot of effort and
it's absolutely worth it. Ithink the braids in the
cavalcades are great becausethey provide such proximity and
interaction with the charactersat the heart of the Disney
Experience. Somehow every guestcomes away feeling like they had

(35:15):
a personal interaction with oneof the characters you

Kelli (35:17):
got to see the character you got to see him close. There
was a time when you could go toDisney and not see and not

Chris (35:21):
see a character and without having to stand in a
line for a meet and greet right.
It's the best place I think tosee rare characters on these
floats. It's also fun tointeract with the cast members,
some of whom are PhotoPass teammembers who carry like signs and
props that make for greatvacation pictures. I like to
watch these parades in townsquare.

Kelli (35:41):
Yep, I agree.

Chris (35:43):
My favorite parade moment ever. And one of the reasons
I've come to love the parades.
One of our more recent tripspost COVID We were having ice
cream ever at the Plaza on atthe end of Main Street. And a
cavalcade suddenly startedcoming around the hub. That's
one of the cool things about thecavalcade. They can actually
sneak up on you. Naturally,Aranda, get picks which the
cavalcades allow you to dowithout your ice cream melting

(36:05):
away. This was the princesscavalcade. And Tiana was on the
float along with a bunch ofother princesses. Okay, three
little girls of color werestanding right beside me. As I
was trying to get pictures.
Their reaction to seeing Tianaand being acknowledged by her
like they were literally twofeet away from her. Their

(36:29):
reaction was rapturous. Theywere beside themselves, I can
still hear. Oh my god is like itwas five minutes ago. I know
they'll never forget it becauseI'll never forget it. Like

Kelli (36:42):
you know that Tiana that has to just make her day. She's
got to think right best princes, because I make all the little
kids of color happy,

Chris (36:51):
man. I mean, and they were beside themselves. I never
seen like such a joy on people'sfaces as those kids when they
saw Tiana right there in theirface. Because otherwise, Tiana
does have a meet and greet.
Right. You had to stand in line, you know, and all that it was
great. And I loved it and itmakes the parades totally worth
it. It's

Kelli (37:10):
fantastic. Yes.

Chris (37:13):
So the parades Good job.
