Super, super cool,
whatever the internal thing is.
This is the Supercalifragilisticawesome Disney Podcast where

Kelli (00:13):
things you know, things
you don't know and things you
didn't know you needed to know.
Well,
Chris (00:17):
as well I would say the
way to get started is to quit
talking and begin doing.
Kelli (00:21):
Oh wait, wait, I can do
this. Okay, please didn't clear
up the doors poor footballmantenga c'est la hora de la
welcome aboard
Chris (00:29):
Disney fam Hello out
there Disney fam. My name is
Chris and Kelly. Welcome to thisweek's episode. We're so excited
to have you. You're wearing yourchipmunk gears and they are a
topic adjacent. But not becausetheir parents chipmunk ears,
Kelli (00:49):
right? These are
Chippendale years. We use a
chipmunk I think Alvin Andy,
Chris (00:53):
that's fair. I should
have said I should have said
Chippendale Chippendale ears.
Kelli (00:58):
But these are yes, these
are my parents ears. These are
the only years I have wasfireworks on them. And so I'm
calling them what makes them ontopic topic for this week. Not
topic adjacent on topic.
Chris (01:11):
Well, we'll be the judge
that once we hear your way
meaning Oops.
Kelli (01:15):
Okay, are you Hey, listen
to us. We
Chris (01:18):
had downloads from
Andover, New Jersey. These are
6005 folks west of New YorkCity. It's fun little Fargo
isn't like a suburb or anything.
I think they're sort of on theirway to the Poconos from New York
City.
Kelli (01:29):
Welcome Andover.
Chris (01:30):
Yep, Santa Ana,
California. So beautiful suburb
of LA and home to bear paint.
The bear paint companyheadquarters.
Kelli (01:40):
Well, and also the Santa
Ana winds,
Chris (01:43):
I guess. You know,
Kelli (01:44):
that's what they say.
It's like when the Santa Anawinds blow then like, things
happen. Yeah, we'll have thatmovie music and lyrics. Jack
Black got a thing in his eye.
When the Santa Ana winds blewand then he fell in love with
Chris (02:04):
the room you got the
movies wrong? Movies wrong,
Kelli (02:06):
wasn't it? It was the
holiday the holiday. The Santa
Ana winds blew and the holidaygot in his eye and then he fell
in love with the the lady fromEngland and her brother fell in
love
Chris (02:18):
with wasn't Kate Winslet.
Kelli (02:20):
I don't know. You know, I
don't know stuff like that. I'm
just saying the Santa Ana windsare a real thing.
Chris (02:25):
I think Drew Barrymore
and Hugh Grant music and lyrics
will be very shocked to find outthe giant black goth company is
Kelli (02:36):
where they're Santa Ana
winds in music and lyrics I
Chris (02:38):
believe took place
anywhere near Barrymore. I'm
Kelli (02:42):
gonna be honest, I knew
Hugh Grant Drew Barrymore. Oh,
wow. Actually, you know, she'sgot like a talk show now. They
Chris (02:49):
all do.
Kelli (02:50):
She cries all the time.
Chris (02:52):
You and I do too. Big D
Kelli (02:58):
clip of her on the social
she is crying on that talk show.
And I'm like, I did not knowthat drew was such a teary
person.
Chris (03:06):
What I thought he was
also just like me. I thought
Kelli (03:09):
she was just down with
the aliens.
Chris (03:12):
Just at that at and
Charlie's Angels. That's all
she's got. Segment Lawrence,Texas also, by the way,
Lawrence, Texas Lawrence, Texasunincorporated little community
of about 300 people not quiteWow. Quite 300 People east to
(03:34):
Dallas. I think that's myfavorite one. I love it when
these little little BTOB townsand assignments out.
Incorporated community. It'slike a community. Nobody knows
what the heck is.
Kelli (03:45):
Yeah, welcome gangs.
Chris (03:47):
Gangnam Gu, Seoul Korea.
Kelli (03:50):
Oh like Gangnam Style
exactly
Chris (03:52):
like Gangnam Style.
That's where the inspiration forthe sound came from this region.
Seoul
Kelli (03:58):
Korea. I know somebody
that's in Seoul, Korea right
now.
Chris (04:01):
Do you certainly do. We?
Our whole household does shoutout to her shout out to her. One
of our favorite favorite peoplein the world. On the other side
of the world, yes. Gangnam. Guis, is sold upscale modern
Center, home to gleamingskyscrapers, designer brands and
stylish nightclubs. Where bigname DJ spin techno and house
(04:22):
music. Ooh, that's fine. Alsoknown as Gangnam Style.
Kelli (04:28):
Nice. So yeah, very nice.
All right. Yeah. It's funnybecause it is a Gangbuster this
week. Oh, sure. All
Chris (04:35):
right. So really just one
topic in the news this week that
we're going to talk about, it isthe it is the huge news. That
Genie plus is effectively goingaway as a brand. And starting
July 24. They will replaceJeannie plus with the Lightning
(05:00):
ring. Let's just we're justgoing to simplify and say
lightning lane. Okay. And Ithink there was probably a lot
of confusion around. Well, do Ineed to buy lightning lane? If
I'm buying Genie plus and, youknow,
Kelli (05:14):
I mean, I'd never got it
right.
Chris (05:15):
I know. I know
Kelli (05:17):
called the Fast Pass
first of all right? I'd be like,
do we have fast pass for this?
And you're like, yep, net 10 Istill call it fast pass. So I
get the confusion there. Sure.
Chris (05:27):
I do too. So now the
branding is lightning lane.
Okay. Okay, you got standbylane, you got Lightning lane.
Okay, now, you can buy thelightning Lane multipass, which
gives you the lightning Laneaccess as long as you book your
times gives you lightning Laneaccess to the lightning lane of
(05:48):
all the attractions that areincluded in lightning.
Kelli (05:53):
And that's essentially
what Genie plus is what Genie
plus was right? If you paid forGenie plus for the day, you got
Chris (05:59):
access as long as you
booked and found time windows,
right? And then this this wholeidea of stacking became a thing
and right whatnot.
Kelli (06:09):
So let's let's break that
down. So if you play if you paid
for Genie plus for the day, yes.
Then you were able to bookcertain rides at certain times.
That's right, essentiallygetting lightning lanes or fast
passes for those rides or thoserides. But then there were
certain rides that were extra inaddition to that, exactly. And
those were like ones everybodywants to ride.
Chris (06:29):
Well, yeah, but it's
usually one maybe two rides in a
specific Park. Right, that wouldfall outside of Genie plus, that
you would pay extra for and thatthat's what we called lightning
lane. Right. But but you stillwent to the lightning lane. Even
if you bought Genie plus Yeah, super weird.
Kelli (06:46):
Okay, but so that's what
Genie plus was. That's right.
You had basic free Genie. Andyou could just go in and it
would help you plan your daywith no cost. Then you had Genie
plus which you pay for for theday? Yes. And you could book
certain rides,
Chris (07:00):
so certain rides as long
as they were available, and then
Kelli (07:03):
you would pay outside of
that for other rides that were
sort of the most popular mostpopular rides. And so now Genie
plus the brand is gone. Right?
But lightning lane,
Chris (07:15):
it will be gone July 24.
Yes, lightning lane is thelightning
Kelli (07:19):
lane is basically now the
thing so there's lightning lane
for one or a lightning lane.
multipass. Exactly. Okay, soexplain those two.
Chris (07:27):
So lightning Lane
multipass is what Genie plus
used to be and so you payupfront for lightning Lane
multipass. And with that, you'regoing to get the ability to book
lightning Lane access to mostrides, okay. Now, previously
(07:48):
also a genie plus, you only gotto you would have to buy Genie
plus, and book your, your, yourlightning lanes that day, that
same morning, which is whypeople like me, get up at 7am by
the genie plus for the family.
And then book the rides right?
As fast as you can. Right. Now,if you are staying on a Disney
(08:13):
Resort property, you can bookthree lightning lanes using the
lightning Lane multipass you buyit and then you can book them
seven days in advance of yourstay. If you're staying on
property if you're staying onproperty. If you're not staying
on property, you can book threedays in advance of your stay.
Okay? Okay. So that's thegeneral idea seven days before
(08:38):
your first day of your trip, youcan start planning your
lightning lanes for your entiretrip as long as your trips not
more than seven days long. Kindof trips more than seven days
long. Then you're gonna have todo that also for seven days
prior okay for seven Right?
Exactly. Okay, so So that'sthat's a change it's a big
change Okay, from Genie plus Ino longer had to buy it same day
(09:02):
book it same day etc. That
Kelli (09:06):
was a huge rush and yes,
very inconvenient for you. very
inconvenient for me
Chris (09:10):
personally, I am down
with that particular change.
Kelli (09:15):
Unless now is it at 7am
Seven days in advance it
Chris (09:18):
is. It is still 7am It's
just 7am What
Kelli (09:24):
is it with the seven
Chris (09:29):
who knows. So, so yes,
seven days if you're staying on
property and three days ifyou're not there's some other
caveats there but that'seffectively okay now the other
thing that you does it cost it'sgonna vary just like Jeanne plus
vary day by day it's gonna varybased on park based on day all
(09:50):
availability demand, all thatfun stuff, right. So the other
the other thing that genie plushad appears to be Going away now
is you had you could book youcould book I think up to three
fast passes with Jeannie plus at7am. Get in there give him she
(10:12):
just call them fast I did acolumn whitening lane. Sorry. So
then as soon as with Genie plusyou then had to wait two hours
120 minutes to book the nextlightning right? With this you
you can book your next lightninglane as soon as you have used
(10:33):
one of your lightning lanes, right which is how the old fast
pass system which is how the oldfast pass system worked right
where you had what you walked upto a kiosk ease out. I've used
one. I'm gonna get another onenow. Right right now you do that
from your from your app. Right?
Okay. So, book a fast pass forearly in the morning. Right?
Right, go use it. Soon as yougot that ride, pop up in your
(10:54):
app sit. There's a Fastpassavailable for something you
want.
Kelli (10:58):
So it really discourages
you from stacking everything in
the afternoon. It
Chris (11:03):
should help prevent some
of that you because if something
comes available, that wasn'tavailable when you first booked,
now you can get it right. And itdoesn't have to be late in the
day necessarily. Right, right.
Yeah. The other the other thingto know about lightning Lane
multipass is when you make thoseinitial first three selections,
(11:25):
they have a tier system. Sothere are certain rides at each
park, that are called tier onerides, and then everything else
will be tier two. So when you'redeciding on your three
selections to make for your dayin that park, you can either
(11:46):
choose one of the tier oneselections, and two of the tier
two, or you can just choosethree of the tier two. Okay?
Now, once you have been to yourpark, you've used one of your
lightning lanes. Now you're notrestricted by that you can go
get another tier one ride if youif it's available. Okay. Right
(12:08):
then. So so let's take MagicKingdom as an example. I set up
Space Mountain as my as my tierone. I've got it at 10 o'clock.
And I got the and then my two Igot haunted mansion and Pirates
of the Caribbean at 830 and 930.
(12:30):
Right. So I've got a tea. I'vegot two tier twos and then I got
a tier one right? Once I go usemy haunted mansion lightning
lane at 830. I can now go bookBig Thunder Mountain Railroad,
just another tier one, which isa tier one at whatever time
Kelli (12:48):
it's available without
paying extra without
Chris (12:51):
paying extra. Right. So
that's so now I've got two tier
ones that are currently stacked.
And then it doesn't matter thatthey're tier ones and once I the
only time I'm restricted by thattier one, tier two is when I'm
making that initial first threeselections,
Kelli (13:09):
so then you're not paying
throughout the day again for
another lightning lane. Exactly.
Chris (13:15):
For any for those for the
for the lightning lane.
multipass there's there thereare certain rides that are not
included in the lightning lane.
multipass just like the genieplus
Kelli (13:28):
Right, right. So you
still have to pay extra for
those. You're
Chris (13:31):
still at the Magic
Kingdom for example, you're
still going to have to pay extraif you don't want to stand in
the standby line for seven doorsmine train and Tron.
Kelli (13:40):
I'm surprised that Tiana
is not already on that list.
Tiana
Chris (13:43):
is part of the tier one.
Kelli (13:46):
Yep. Okay. I mean, Tron
does not surprise me. Right? So
Chris (13:51):
they have swiped by
lightning multipass and I want
to buy Tron and then I also wantto buy Tron so I can buy a
lightning Lane single pass. And
Kelli (13:59):
you could do that seven
days in advance. Yes. Okay.
That's right.
Chris (14:03):
As long as you're in the
time's right. And my
understanding is that times workthe same as they did with Genie
plus and the individuallightning lane. Yeah, where you
can you get a lot moreflexibility for that individual
that lightning single pass andchoose what time you want to go.
Right. Whereas with thelightning like multipass you
sort of choose from windows thatthey offer you
Kelli (14:23):
right. Okay, that's
interesting. Yeah, I mean, I
think they're gonna get a lot ofhate as they always do. When
they make these types ofchanges. People say their money
grabbing and stuff like that. Ithink the reality is it's it's
all crowd management, and
Chris (14:38):
read profit. I mean,
because demand says they can do
it and they've, they've beenkilling it. Yeah. But people
have also the complaints havealso been that all the old
Fastpass system was better.
Well, this brings us much closerto how the old Fastpass system
work. It also makes it mucheasier to stack and get in More
of those drags done vialightning Laindon than you could
(15:01):
under the
Kelli (15:04):
not stack all the
afternoon. Right? This
encourages stacking in themornings. Yeah.
Chris (15:09):
Or just goes long as you
can this every time you use one,
stack everything
Kelli (15:13):
early so that you can go
in and use one. Yes, start
scheduling for
Chris (15:17):
this this highly, there's
much more, you know, I encourage
you to have a couple thingsright, scheduled in in the
morning so that you can justsort of keep overlapping and
overlapping and overlapping,right.
Kelli (15:29):
Yeah. And so I'm assuming
then that it does allow you to
overlap which with the Fastpasssystem you couldn't? That's
right. But with lightning lane, you have been able to Yes. So
that's, I think it's a good. Ithink it's an improvement.
Chris (15:41):
I think it's a I think
it's, I think it is a change
didn't go as far as people want, which would have been making
free, right? They're not goingto do that. But it does go much
closer to what people havecomplained about have asked for.
Kelli (15:55):
I mean, I hate to lose
the genie plus brand name,
because I think it's brilliant.
That the genie plans your dayand everything. But I was also
confused, most confusinglightning lanes and fast passes
and Genie pluses and all of thatI'd never understood it.
Chris (16:08):
Yep. Now it's lightning
lane, effectively, the way to
think about it. It's like thelane. And you can either buy it
or you don't have to buy it. Butno, when you buy it, it's going
to include most of the rides.
But there's always going to beone or two premium rides in each
part. animal kingdoms got onepremium ride. I think only one
premium ride at HollywoodStudios. That's Rise of the
resistance. at Epcot. There'scosmic rewind is the one and
(16:32):
then there's two Magic Kingdom.
Yeah, that's it. I mean, thoseare the premiums that you would
have to pay extra for. Right.
And it's all lightning. Right,which I think is a nice, I think
that's good. I think it'ssimplifies it for sure. And that
was really the big goal oftheirs. Yeah. So yeah. All
right. You got everybody good.
Everybody's got it. Everybodyunderstands winding lane.
(16:52):
Awesome. Awesome. Can't wait toto plan 7am Seven days before my
next. So big big holiday comingup this week. July The fourth is
coming up and man everywherecelebrate slot the fourth. But
(17:12):
having moved to Nebraska. Thesefolks celebrate. Middle America
loves a duty of July 4, and theylove July 3. I do. And they love
July that I think that hurtsomebody loving June 30 A few
minutes ago.
Kelli (17:28):
They love June 30. I've
never. I mean, you know in South
Carolina that there werefireworks the whole month. July
3 is as big as July 4 I've ever
Chris (17:38):
seen. And both of them
are bigger than any single day
we experienced for July 4 Backin the Carolinas. Yeah, it is.
We're gonna sit on our balcony.
We've got a pretty good panoramaof all of Lincoln, Nebraska from
our balcony. And from as far aswe can see, to the left to as
far as we can see to the rightit's going to be a firework
show,
Kelli (17:58):
and I'm going to buy
sparklers this year. Honey, I
haven't told you Oh, I'm gonnareally I'm gonna really Oh,
packages of Spark sparklers.
Chris (18:10):
Guys, you are who are
you? Right?
Kelli (18:14):
But not for fireworks.
I'm going to use them for likemy monthly New Moon workshops
and stuff. Like, you know, honestly, the neighbors already
think I'm crazy. They do. So ifI'm dancing in the backyard with
some sage and you knowsparklers. They'll be like yeah,
okay. It must be must be a newmoon.
Chris (18:37):
So what are we going to
talk about for the job? Fourth,
I'll give you three guesses.
Kelli (18:41):
Okay, three guesses?
Fireworks?
Chris (18:43):
No, I'm not. That's what
I'm talking about. What else?
Food Food. Of course. We'regonna talk about food. So for
the July the fourth, Disneycomes out while Disney World in
particular comes out with lotsof amazing food items to
celebrate the birth of thiswonderful nation. All right, so
(19:07):
let's start we'll start withanimal kingdom. From July the
first or July the fifth atAnimal Kingdom, pizza farI and
restaurant a Saurus. You can getthe Fourth of July cupcake
ready? This is a strawberry cakefilled with blueberry compote.
Red White and Blue vanilla icingwhite chocolate shaped Mickey
(19:29):
decoration and Goldstarsprinkles. Oh my gosh.
Strawberry cake with blueberrycompote.
Kelli (19:35):
I like it. I'm for it. I
think they could have gone with
a mousse but I'm fine. I'm finewith the compote.
Chris (19:43):
Champagne problems. Magic
Kingdom I should put some
champagne and ooh actually.
Animal Kingdom at draw MagicKingdom Liberty Square market
from June the 30th. So todaythrough July the sixth, we'll
have the red white and blue slugSee? This is frozen Fanta blue
raspberry and cherry Fantalayered with whipped cream and
(20:10):
topped with popping candy.
Kelli (20:13):
I'll take it. I'll have
it. Yeah. Can they add some
vodka to that?
Chris (20:17):
It's Magic Kingdom.
Bummer. That's a good idea thatwould get me to get it. I'm not
a big slushie
Kelli (20:25):
fan. No, but I like the
popping stuff. I like that.
Sure. The feel is a goodmouthfeel I like that. All
right.
Chris (20:33):
From June 30 to July 6
Sleepy Hollow will have the red
white and blue funnel cake.
funnel cake topped with mixedberries, vanilla ice cream and
festive sprinkles. Red, whiteand blue sprinkles.
Kelli (20:44):
the interwebs by the way,
melted down this week because
Sleepy Hollow has taken away thechicken waffles. Oh, well,
rightly so Internet just had acomplete option fit. Oh, hoof
what I saw out there. People arenot happy with that. So
Chris (21:00):
it was just sad. I mean,
keeping that fruit when I bet I
hope so.
Kelli (21:04):
But maybe they were just
you know, making some space for
the funnel cake the red whiteand blue funnel cake. Okay, you
liked it that much. Then whydidn't you buy it if you bought
it, they would have kept it.
Chris (21:13):
That's facts. Facts. Yet
money. Jumping over to Epcot,
the Regal Eagle Smokehouse fromtoday until July 7. We'll have a
barbecue pulled chicken sandwichwith housemade pickles coleslaw
and an onion ring on a briocheroll. This thing's cool looking.
And I think barber shredderpulled chicken barbecue is
(21:37):
underrated. But I saw thepicture of it. The picture
should have had more barbecue.
It looks like it's mostlybeautiful brioche with this
branded regal legal thing on thetop of the barn. And coleslaw
and the big onion ring. Alllooks great. But it needed to
have more. More barbecuearboriculture just
Kelli (22:02):
a barbecue sandwich
there. They need to have a
beverage they need to have adessert is that really all
they've got? At the Regal eagle, the Regal Eagle than anything
else at the American adventureaid
Chris (22:12):
and nothing else in
Epcot. There's really only a
couple of things in each
Kelli (22:15):
park. But you would think
in America that really they
Chris (22:19):
do really be going all
out. America, right
Kelli (22:23):
America would have some
cupcakes and some you know,
watermelon. I don't know whatelse do people have potato
salad? Yep, everything would belike red, white and blue seen?
Sure. You know people love tomake those like red white and
blue desserts, blueberries andraspberries. Like why didn't
regal Eagle do that? Why not?
We're Sammy.
Chris (22:43):
We could Yeah, I hear ya.
Red White Blue cheesecake.
Kelli (22:47):
Something. Something they
could have done more.
Chris (22:49):
Okay, I agree with you.
And they could have just putmore barbecue on their sandwich.
Also. Give me more than meatman. studios had pizza Rizzo
June 30 through July 31. So thisis the whole month at Hollywood
Studios. They have the Mickeyapple pie cupcake.
Kelli (23:13):
Wanting regal Eagle have
seven American apple pie
Chris (23:16):
fair. That's a good yeah,
that's a valley would go great
with that. Into this yellowcupcake, which, you know, you
love your cake. I love it.
filled, filled with apple piefilling. Okay. Mm hmm. Topped
with salted caramel buttercream.
Cinnamon streusel and garnishwith rainbow silver sparkle,
(23:38):
red, white and blue Mickey ears.
Okay,
Kelli (23:41):
why do they not have that
why Sam that was working that
out over three that would work
Chris (23:46):
really well at the Regal
Eagle. Right? Yeah. Somebody
should switch right inoversight.
Kelli (23:52):
Oh, call somebody
oversight. I would also like an
apple pie milkshake. If they canmake that. Don't
Chris (23:56):
even get me started. I
had only just now recently
stopped thinking about Apple Piemilkshakes. And you have now
brought it right back in I betJoffrey
Kelli (24:03):
Joffrey is doing
anything. Come on Joffrey.
Chris (24:08):
Woody's lunchbox
Hollywood Studios. Hey, the
Fourth of July lunchbox tart.
Kelli (24:14):
Yeah, he loves do some
different with tarts. Well, this
is basically
Chris (24:17):
a cherry cherry pie
filling in their pop tart with
vanilla fondant and starsprinkles. Okay,
Kelli (24:23):
I mean, maybe you could
have a little bit more I could
have more than that little bitmore than that. But I'm telling
you what you get one of hisdrinks and you will forget all
about it. Get all paying?
Chris (24:30):
Yep. Yeah. All right over
at Disney Springs. We've got
Emirates, of course Emirates. Sothis is now through July the
eighth. They have their Fourthof July Minnie Mouse dome. They
love a dome lava dome, whitechocolate and strawberry mousse.
Yes, yes. In that dome, that sheknows how to do Yes. With
(24:52):
vanilla chiffon cake. And GluckKasia
Kelli (24:57):
Gluck, Kasia, whatever
that is, I don't think you put
notes that for sure did. I'mpretty sure you didn't for sure
I've never once heard them saythat on Great British baking
show, and I think Pru leaf wouldknow what it is. Kosh Gulla
Kasia that's not
Chris (25:14):
not a you'd call it
Kelli (25:15):
glycated for sure. That
is not a thing honey, the
ganache theory of course theycan actually they just print
money ever there is now
Chris (25:23):
through July the seventh
Stars and Stripes many chocolate
pin Jada is a dark chocolate.
It's a dark chocolate shellfilled with popping candy
chocolate balm on
Kelli (25:37):
would you please Nasseri?
That's awesome. They just printmoney. They do. Gosh, I love the
ganache. Right they're
Chris (25:44):
so good. All right, so at
the resorts, you've got the
contemporary at The Contempocafe and grand flow at the

They did. I'm
Kelli (27:22):
telling they did
Chris (27:23):
anyone that like that Red
Riding brownie would just be
darlin at the Regal, Regal
Kelli (27:29):

something with cherry. Sam Eagle
really found this.
Chris (27:34):
He did. He did he did
really fun to say the Regal
Beagle. Because Because wewatched Three's Company.
Kelli (27:41):
That's funny because
you're saying that's what they
said on that show. And I wouldhave bet money. They said regal
eagle was a regal Eagle becauseI remember thinking oh my gosh,
they said regal Eagle wonder ifthat's where that came from.
Chris (27:51):
The Regal. Regal Eagle.
is following it in thoughbecause some of these desserts
sound Yeah, just amazing.
Awesome. Those those thingsthey're doing the brownie and,
and the cheesecake thing. Justthey're just beautiful. And I
sent you some pictures toinclude Perfect. Perfect. So are
you ready for your WorldShowcase? Ready, honey? Right.
(28:13):
So
Kelli (28:13):
as I've already
mentioned, I'm doing fireworks.
Right. So nothing is moreAmerican than food and
fireworks. Right. And so I'mliterally nothing. I'm gonna
give you the top 10 facts aboutthe Disney fireworks.
Chris (28:27):
Oh, okay. I mean, it's
one of my favorite things is the
Disney
Kelli (28:31):
fireworks. It is yeah,
absolutely. So they Disney Land
debuted the first ever fireworkspectacular in 1956, about a
year after the park opened, okay. It was something that Walt
wanted. Okay, really, because hewanted something that we keep
guests there throughout thenight and keep them there later.
So that's something he wanted.
He also wanted Sleeping BeautyCastle to be the backdrop. But
(28:53):
this was still a veryexperimental phase. You know,
after two years and evolved, they were still lighting these
things by hand, which obviouslythey don't do anymore because it
goes to music and everything.
But after about two years, ithad become more of a themed
overall show that peopleactually looked forward to.
(29:15):
That's when it became known asfantasy in the sky spectacular.
Chris (29:20):
So it's been fantasy in
the sky for that for like a
Kelli (29:23):
long time. Okay,
interstage left Fact number two
tank. Okay, so tank became soclosely associated with a theme
park because of the Disney TVshow. She would introduce the
land of the park, that theguests were constantly asking
where's Tinkerbell? Right, soWalt came up with an answer in
(29:46):
the summer of 1961. They decidedto have a real life Tinkerbell
fly over Sleeping Beauty Castleduring the nightly fireworks
display. Well, our firstTinkerbell was tiny Klein. Okay,
she was Tink from night. In 61to 1963, her name was actually
Helen douche before marriedbefore marriage, tiny became the
(30:08):
first American came to Americaas a Hungarian immigrant at the
age of 14 as part of a dancetroupe. Upon arriving in
America, she lived in theclarity here home, which is a
boarding house and industrialschool in New York City for
Jewish immigrant working girls.
So the idea behind that house isthey would learn how to trade
(30:28):
typically a seamstress Okay, through a series of unfortunate
events, including her husbanddying five weeks after their
wedding, Klein had to make itmake it on her own as something
other than a seamstress. Sherefused to become a seamstress.
Instead, clients like you knowwhat I'm gonna do. I'm gonna be
a burlesque dancer. Okay. I'mtelling you, like she on that
(30:49):
she did great. Fast forwardabout 25 years. She now had
experience working in the circusas part of an iron jaw act,
where she would hold on to likea ring with her jaw and slide
down a line. Okay. So, on Augustthe first 1958, she finds
herself strapped into a harnessas part of the Disneyland comes
(31:12):
to the Hollywood Bowl event thatfeatured a medley of songs from
Disney motion pictures, okay.
Walt is there in the audiencewith his wife and his brother
Roy, and brother Roy's wife,Edna, they were completely taken
by her performance as Tinkerbellthat Walt is like we need her.
(31:32):
Okay. But it took three years, the summer of 1961 before that
came true. Okay. He asked her torepeat that at Disneyland said
she had demonstrated she couldhandle it. This has always been
the assumption. There's nohiring paperwork for tiny climb,
not even in the Disney archives.
Nobody really knows how or whenshe was hired. What we do know
(31:53):
is that she insisted on hangingby her teeth. While she was
doing it so that she could lookup she was scared of heights. So
if she looked, she couldn't seethe ground. And eventually they
made her do it another waybecause she's in her 70s For
goodness sake.
Chris (32:15):
She is in her 70s
basically performing an iron jaw
as Tinker Bell routine.
Kelli (32:20):
And they said that they
would have people her handlers
would have to basically chaseher up the matter horn because
she was so fast. But then shegets to the top and she would
look down and they would have togive her a shove because she was
so scared. Yes, absolutelyamazing. So at age 70, she
becomes the first Tinkerbell atDisneyland suspended 146 feet up
(32:43):
in the air. She glided down a780 foot 84 foot load cable from
the Mater horn sleeping beautiescastle at roughly 30 miles per
hour. That's fast. That's fastto signal the beginning of the
fireworks. The entire trip tookapproximately 30 seconds she was
four feet 10 inches tall andweighed 98 pounds. So she would
(33:06):
land into a couple of mattressesthat were being held up by
football players. And she lovedto hit these mattresses like so
hard that they would knock overthe football players and she
would like pop up and go thanksboys. So you performed for three
summers despite battling stomachcancer. Oh my gosh, died on July
(33:30):
the fifth 1964 at age 73. It isburied in Inglewood Park
seminary and Cemetery in LosAngeles, California. The message
on her gravestone says tinyHelen Klein, our Tinker bill.
Richard Sherman was talking toWalt one night after the
fireworks and he stopped to tellhim that his favorite experience
(33:51):
is the display with TinkerbellWalt said that Charmin
remembered that Walt wiped atear. Charmin said that Walt
responded by wiping a tear fromhis eye and said, Yep, kiss me
every time. God
Chris (34:05):
that's so awesome. This
woman with her seven year old
cancer they Battle Rams into abunch of football players is
like Thanks, boys. Come on.
Women are great. Okay,
Kelli (34:16):
three fact three. Mary
Poppins Dumbo, Nemo and even
baby New Year have all sortedthrough the air at Disneyland.
Always eating. Okay, moving on.
I'm gonna move through thesefast because if I got a little
bit time left by the lighterpart of the 1960s Disney had
adopted a push button system forfiring the fireworks which made
it easier to synchronize withthe Music Okay, so you something
(34:36):
launches in the late 50s 10years later. We've got Tink
we've got a system in itsynchronized with music right?
Nothing does that like Disney?
That's a fact. Okay. When MagicKingdom opened, it immediately
had a firework show took a fewweeks, but it was almost never
(34:58):
without fireworks from the verybeginning there first display
launched on October 24 1971. Incelebration of the Polynesian
resorts dedication. I knewyou're gonna love that.
Chris (35:11):
The Polly's responsible
for the fireworks at Walt Disney
World
Kelli (35:14):
while most other
fireworks rely on gunpowder for
the initial launch, Disney doessomething naturally uniquely
differentiated they usecompressed air, which helps
avoid leftover fumes and gives abetter breathing environment for
Disney guests. It has also beenknown to produce a higher launch
going back to the fact thatDisney fireworks can be seen far
(35:36):
and wide. Sure, naturally, nosurprise number seven. They have
various patents relation inrelation to fireworks because of
their ingenious using, includingnumber eight, they have
sprinklers on top of thebuildings around Cindy's castle,
and they wet them down beforethe firework show. You'll also
(35:57):
see them wetting down theground. So we
Chris (35:59):
said that this last trip
all the times we've gone we were
walking through at night andsaid it's always a puddle right
here, right? And it's
Kelli (36:07):
because they let them
down. They run the sprinklers on
top of the castle and everywhereelse. They have had a couple of
fires. We ran on seven doorsmine train, remember Yeah. But
now obviously they take it veryseriously. And that sprinkler
system is part of that. Awesome.
Okay, last tip. The Walt DisneyCompany holds the record for
being the largest consumer offireworks in the entire world.
They set off well over 1 millionfireworks annually at their
(36:30):
various venues all over theglobe. The company is credited
with being the second largestpurchaser of explosives outside
of the US government. They falljust behind the United States
Department of Defense.
Chris (36:46):
Not surprising, if you
spend a week at Disney, you
cannot How do you come away fromthey're not thinking? What do
they spend on just the fireworkbudget.
Kelli (36:55):
I've got though, each
firework show cost approximately
$33,000 to put on, do the math, that's about $40 million per
year, which sounds like a fairlylarge budget. But if you put it
into perspective, in 2017, WaltDisney World had 55 million
visitors. So it's only about $1from each ticket that goes
(37:16):
towards the fireworks.
Chris (37:17):
Isn't that interesting?
Isn't it though? I mean, it isto me, right? I mean, I would
have thought that each one oftheir shows is more than $33,000
with fireworks. Yeah, I don'tknow anything about fireworks
Kelli (37:27):
costs, right? I agree. I
mean, they've got patents. I
mean, just the idea that theywent from nothing, you know, to
10 years later patentssynchronized to music.
Somebody's flying 73 And she'sholding on by her teeth that are
not dentures. Right? I just wantto say, and in the 60s, a 73
(37:49):
year old woman that does nothave dentures has to be a fit.
Chris (37:55):
Basically a unicorn is
what she is. She looks like a 73
year old amazing lady. She'sactually unicorn,
Kelli (38:01):
four foot, four foot 10
foot 1098 pounds, eight pounds
76 years old to those mattressesjust to knock over the football
player and say like
Chris (38:11):
it's a carnival like it's
a carnival game.
Kelli (38:13):
Thanks boys.
Chris (38:16):
Thank God for Disney's
firework shows man because
totally right. i We have gone toparks in the evenings for no
other reason than to make surethat we see the fireworks and
one of the thing now it it was Imean, I talked about the
fireworks in the Magic Kingdomand I think our very first
episode, because it's such aindelible core memory.
Kelli (38:39):
I think it's also
brilliant for other reasons. It
brings everybody to the centerof the park and in most cases
near the exit and they can justassure you straight down after
the fireworks right. So it makeseverybody a little bit easier to
round up. I think again, crowdmanagement genius Yeah,
Chris (38:55):
hide can't hide back
there. Very smart people home
you know, haunted mansion oranything, right. All right,
folks. That's it for the showthis week. We hope you enjoyed
it. I know we thoroughly enjoyedit. You know what to do now? Run
out to wherever you get yourpodcasts and leave a five star
rating. If that service allowsyou to leave a review. Leave
(39:17):

people to this show.
Kelli (39:21):
Absolutely. And if you're
