A super color, super
whatever the internal thing is.
Chris (00:07):
This is the
Supercalifragilistic, awesome
Disney Podcast, where each weekwe discuss, you guessed it,
Disney
Kelli (00:13):
things you know, things
you don't know, and things you
didn't know you needed to know.
Chris (00:17):
Well, as Walt would say,
the way to get started is to
quit talking and begin doing.
Oh, wait,
Kelli (00:21):
wait, wait, I can do
this. Okay, please stand clear
of the doors. Por favor. Mantenga se alejaro de las puertas,
welcome aboard Disney. Fam,
Chris (00:33):
hello out there. Disney.
Fam, my name is Chris, and I'mKelli,
Kelli (00:37):
and today we are doing
our very first top 10. So this
is our 10th season. We want todo a top 10 list every week this
season. And so we just got offthe Disney treasure. So this is
going to be our top 10 thingsfrom the Disney treasure. We
were on the fourth fourthsailing, fourth sailing, and
(00:57):
it's still very much fresh inour minds. So top 10 list for
the Disney treasure ready to go,Ready to go. You
Chris (01:44):
Oh my gosh, that just
took me right back there.
Kelli (01:47):
It makes me smile. I've
got that video on my phone, and
I love it.
Chris (01:52):
I saw there, oh, you
don't want to miss this. Don't
miss this. I thought it wasmaybe, oh, this will be cute,
kind of hokey, and nowhere. Itwas so much fun. And that's
going to be one of our items, but it's not number 10. I've got
number 10 on our list, and we'rejust calling this all the
activities, not including whatyou just heard. We're talking
(02:13):
about, like the movie, watchingso much movie, watching crazy
game shows, three theaters, three different movie theaters,
at least. Well, there's two, like, legit movie theaters,
Wonderland and the Neverland, uhhuh. And then they also showed
movies from time to time insurabi, which, oh, that's right,
yes. Sarabi, yes, oh my gosh, right. And then you've also got
(02:36):
Funnel Vision, where they showall those movies, right? I mean,
there is nothing forgot
Kelli (02:44):
about Fauci how,
Chris (02:45):
how
Kelli (02:46):
there's literally Disney
movies, classics and news. I
honestly,
Chris (02:50):
I want to believe you
could, you, you would have been
able to watch every Disney slashPixar movie
Kelli (02:57):
ever. I bet you would
have. No it was, it was amazing.
All of the movies that werearound the brand new releases
were in theater. So we saw Moanatwo and Mufasa, those were there
in the theaters. Then you've gotthe Funnel Vision playing movies
really, all day, every day.
Yeah, they played them insurabi. They also played them in
(03:17):
another one that's like a SIPshow place, but they would play
movies on it, right?
Chris (03:24):
And also they had, like,
the NFL playoffs were going on
while we were there and so on.
You could watch the NFL playoffgame on Funnel Vision or in the
periscope pub Lounge, which waslike a sports bar. But, I mean,
there's nothing better thanlike, sitting in one of the
pools on the pool deck, watching, like the football
(03:46):
playoffs for a day.
Kelli (03:50):
It was, I mean, the
amount of stuff that they had
available, like, I didn't evenget to see all the movies I
wanted to see, because there'sso many activities, just
Chris (03:59):
so many other things.
You've got trivia in everylounge. This Triton lounge that
I went and took part in, so muchtrivia, right
Kelli (04:08):
there. Skill level one,
Disney skill level three, Pixar.
Skill one, Star Wars, skill two, like it is a constant with all
the trivia, different things
Chris (04:18):
you can play. They had
trivia and Skipper society, they
had, like, arts and craftsmaking sessions, learn how to
draw donald. I did that. You didyou learned you learned how to
draw donald training. The one
Kelli (04:30):
that I really wanted to
learn was learn how to draw port
Mini. Oh, yes, and I missed thatone. I missed that one, but
yeah, I mean that constant withthe drawing activities they
would have coloring things forkids. They had kids stuff that
we didn't even know aboutbecause that our kids weren't
that age, but they were. Therewere shows in the main like
(04:52):
lobby area for the kidsconstantly,
Chris (04:55):
not just the kids. They
had coriander and say. Sage were
the storytellers. And I watchedevery other people. Those are
Ashley people. They go bycoriander and sage, they ran
some of the game shows. Theywere hilarious, but they also
did like this, these like storytimes, where they would tell the
(05:15):
stories of Disney movies, but dothem in like 30 minutes. Yes,
they were great. Yeah.
Kelli (05:21):
So I mean, just so many
things to do. And I would say
that was port days and non portdays, plenty of things to do.
And also, like, if you were everon a port day or a non port day
or whatever, and it's raining,like, Don't worry, they've got
Chris (05:36):
you plenty of stuff to
do, right? That doesn't even we,
we didn't even include all thestuff that's there for the kids.
That's
Kelli (05:41):
what I'm saying. Like the
individual zones for the kids.
There was like an obstaclecourse, like an inflatable
obstacle course on the indoorgym area in the indoor gym area
that they would schedule. Okay, here's family time on the
inflatable course. Here is just10 through 12 year olds. I mean,
like so many random things likethat that you could do, so
Chris (06:06):
amazing. Never, you never
run out of things to do. And
unless you're me, I mean, there, there's a world out there where
people felt bad about all theactivities they were missing
while they sat in the poolwatching Funnel Vision. I'm not
one of them, so I
Kelli (06:19):
sat in many different
places, reading books, and I
didn't feel bad about theactivities. In fact, I would
regularly have to shift mylocation because an activity was
coming in. There's a lot goingon, a lot going on.
Chris (06:34):
So that was number 10. So
many activities were never
you're never be bored.
Kelli (06:40):
You want. And at the in
the evenings they do go. A lot
of them go adult only for someof the game shows and things
like that. But again, but
Chris (06:48):
how about the first night
our our daughter didn't come
until two in the morning? Oh,yeah. Well, because they were
they had kids act duringteenager activities until two,
yeah, like 2am
Kelli (06:59):
Well, there was one night
we came back in from dinner, and
it was close to 10 or 11, andshe's like, I think I'm gonna go
and watch Maleficent on thepool, right,
Chris (07:07):
right? That is awesome. I
think I'm gonna go. It's 10
o'clock. I'm gonna go watch myMaleficent starts in 30 minutes
on the Funnel Vision up by thepools.
Kelli (07:16):
Yeah, it was, it was
amazing. Okay, so number nine is
the Aqua mouse slash pool deck.
So I'll start with just the deckin general. So a lot of a lot of
cruise ships have a huge, massive pool in the middle of
the pool deck. What I will sayis that Disney has done this
brilliantly because they don'thave a massive pool. They have
(07:37):
multiple smaller pools ondifferent levels, right? So
varying depth, varying depths ondifferent levels. And so
imagine, like a pool staircase,almost like there's a staircase
going right up a middle thelower level pools are, say, one
foot deep. And this isn't thekitty area. There's a whole
(07:58):
separate kiddie pool and Kittyslide area. This is regular open
area. So you've got one footdeep and then one more pool up.
Those are three foot deep, onemore up this, you know, two more
pools, yes, four and a half feetdeep. So there's a lot of little
pools, and so you do findyourself nobody's swimming,
yeah, right. But these pools arealso not really conducive to
(08:19):
like kids playing football overyour head, exactly right? These,
these pools are only conduciveto sort of sitting and chilling
and vibing while you watchFunnel Vision, right? And so in
the middle of the main pool deckis just about 100 Adirondack
chairs, lounge chairs and that.
(08:41):
So you can literally just sit inthe middle of the pool deck and
watch movies all day, sit andwatch them all night, like it
is. It's basically an outdoormovie theater right there. And
then the opposite side of ofthat, so you've got multi level
pools on one side, middle is abunch of seating. On the other
side, where Funnel Vision is,you've got a stage, and that's
(09:04):
where they do a lot of theshows. When they're not doing
shows that stage opens up andit's another pool, yeah. So
really cool the pool deck I was,I was really kind of blown away
by how they had designed that. Iexpected one large pool, and
then, like you said, go aroundto the backside of one of the
(09:24):
funnels. That's where they'vegot the slide area for the
little kids. They've got thisamazing splash pad covered, yes,
covered splash pad area. And Idon't want to say it this way,
but fenced in, yes, like it was,it was a glass wall. But still,
like your kids are not yourlittle ones, not running away.
That's right, that's right. Andthey're not mingling with any
(09:46):
kids bigger than them, right, right? That's not a thing. So
this small kids area is verymuch gated off. You can feel
safe letting your kids runaround in that zone. There are
also chairs for parents to sitin. There's a bar. Over there,
there's also, like a slushy bar,yeah, I see, yeah,
Chris (10:04):
that's right, yes, yeah.
Kelli (10:06):
And so then my favorite
part of the pool deck, because
I'm not really a layout and getsun kind of person, I basically
just got sunburned saying thosewords. And so my favorite part
of the pool deck was actuallythe Aqua mouse, sure. And so you
and I went on the Aqua Mouse oneday. Really, really stinking
cool. So really cool. It's cool.
So it's a clear tube that you'rein. A lot of it, a lot of it's
(10:32):
clear that you're in, but it'slike a coaster, right? So you're
in your float, and it takes yousort of up a hill, you know,
just like you would on a rollercoaster, and then you sort of
come crashing down and around, you know, worlds and stuff, but
going through those clear tubesover the pool deck and over the
ocean,
Chris (10:51):
the ocean just about the
coolest thing ever. Crazy, yeah,
but then you wrote it a secondtime, so yeah, and then I the
next day, or a couple dayslater, I actually wrote it twice
and, like, literally back toback, because the pools are,
like, 50 minutes on. You can bein the pool for 50 minutes and
then to give the lifeguards abreak, they have a 10 minute
(11:12):
break. Everybody out, right? Soget out of the pool at the 45
minute mark, and there's nobodyin line at the Aqua mouse,
because it's at the 50 minutemark everybody gets out of the
pool, that's when the line growsat the Aqua mouse. So hop out
after 45 minutes, go to the Aquamouse and you can ride it a
couple times without anybody inline yet. That's awesome. And so
(11:35):
there's six stories that theAqua mouse tells. I know there
were six. Yeah, there's like sixdifferent stories that it tells.
So you, as you're going up thetube to start the roller
coaster, like roller coasters doit you, you're basically going
through a Mickey and MinnieMouse story, car ta story, yeah,
and it all the stories end withthis gushing flow of water, and
(11:58):
you take off down the tube withall the water, yeah, just
amazing. And it's very similarto, like, the water coasters
that you might ride a TyphoonLagoon or whatever, just really,
really well done.
Kelli (12:10):
And the animation is,
like, from Mickey minnie's
runaway railway. It
Chris (12:13):
is like, it's like, it's
like, retro, but, yeah, modern,
yeah. So I
Kelli (12:17):
love the Aqua mouse.
Loved the pool deck. Idefinitely did some book reading
up there, sure.
Chris (12:23):
Okay, so we didn't
mention quiet COVID, but that's
also, keep walking past thepools. You get to the adults
only area and on the very, veryback of the ship, and it is
super quiet. There's a bar backthere. Also had
Kelli (12:35):
a lovely infinity pool.
Infinity Pool looking over theback end of the ship, not a bad
way to it's gorgeous. SometimesLoved it, loved it. Okay,
Chris (12:43):
so now we're gonna call
this. This is number eight
fireworks at sea. That's theheadline, slash Pirate Night,
slash the satellite party, whichyou just heard. So they have
these in that same pool deckarea, like Kelli said they they
can cover up some of thosepools. They can cover up all the
pools to create floor space forpeople to stand because in those
(13:06):
moments, you've basically goteverybody on the whole ship
right there in one spot. Sofloor space is a premium there,
yeah. But Pirate Night, man,it's a thing. It's just so
Pirate Night, it usuallycoincides with the fireworks at
sea, which makes total senseonce you've seen the Pirate
Night show that they do, right?
And people get so into it. Oh,yeah. Now look, if you don't
(13:30):
bring a pirate costume, becauseKelli wouldn't let me bring all
of our
Kelli (13:37):
pirate costumes, they
will leave. And for the record,
I took my pirate ears. You didtake your I was dressed.
Chris (13:45):
They give you a bandana.
They give you a pirate bedbandanas, which is great. I
mean, everybody on the wholeship is wearing their bandanas,
one way or the other. Oh,
Kelli (13:52):
we drank the Kool Aid. I
mean, everybody we did.
Everybody participates in now, there's some people that that,
that brewed the Kool
Chris (14:01):
Aid. They made the
cooler. They got into it, and I
loved every minute of it. And soyou had this big Pirate Night
party, yeah? There's a singdance thing with all the pirate
captains. And of course, JackSparrow makes his appearance,
and it culminates with thefireworks at sea. Yeah, and I'm
(14:21):
telling you, it's perfect.
There's nothing like being on acruise ship and seeing this
amazing Disney Style fireworksgoing off.
Kelli (14:30):
Well, we went up there
for the fireworks, and we were
like, Let's go up to 13, becausethat'll be the best views. And
we walked up there and there wasa lady in one of those big
loungers eating pizza. Yeah, andso she had been there for a
while, you know, she had to getthere early to get that seat.
And I was like, she is livingher best life. And I love this
for
Chris (14:49):
her, for her man. She
was, she was basically zonked
out, except awake.
Kelli (14:55):
She's like, I just eat
pizza. And you're the best
relaxed
Chris (14:59):
at. Was awesome. But the
fireworks are fantastic. What I
loved is the some of the crewhad said, look out along the sea
to see if you can see otherships on the water who take
advantage of the fact thatDisney ships are shooting
fireworks, right? And so theywill stop. They'll stop so that
(15:19):
their passengers can see ourfireworks. Yeah, which is kind
of cool, yeah. So yeah, thefireworks to see, and then the
sail away party, or the frontend. Loved it. Just so, so good.
Just sets the exact right vibe.
It does. We loved it. They setthe tone perfectly. And
Kelli (15:35):
so number seven is
character meet and greets. Now,
honestly, this is ridiculous.
These things happen all day, every day, all day, every day,
all day, every day. It's so andso is here, so and so is there
such and such is here. And soyou can go into like the cruise
navigator and say, I want to seeMickey, and it'll show you every
time you can see Mickey. So youcan be like, I can't get him on
(15:57):
this day. This is our lastchance to get Mickey or I want
to have my photo taken in theHaunted Mansion lounge? Well,
here's the only time we're doingthings in the Haunted Mansion
lounge. You want port Mini?
Well, Port Mini is only going tobe out on this day at this
location. And what I mean bythat isn't just that the
character meet and greets areplentiful. The lines are short.
(16:22):
I mean, I wouldn't say you waitmore than 15 minutes to see
these characters, and then whenyou get up there, they treat you
like royalty. Yes, like they'retalking to you. They're pointing
out your outfits. I mean, we sawstitch one day walking down the
hall, just walking down thehallway, and he stopped and took
pictures with us in the hallway, like with
Chris (16:42):
no line. This was not a
designated this was just we
happened to run across the
Kelli (16:47):
stitch. We're like, ah,
stitch. And he turned around and
started taking pictures with us.
It was like we had our ownprivate meet and greet. Yes,
they weren't trying to rush himoff. None of that.
Chris (16:56):
Tiana literally spends
evenings just sort of strolling
around the Grand Atrium areawith no, like, cordoned off
area, right? She just, she juststrolls around, and every
little, tiny, knee high kid runsup to her and she kneels down to
their level. It's the it's themost adorable thing. But to your
(17:16):
point, if there are people youjust feel like you gotta see
this is the easiest way to, Imean, I, I'm only 50, and I had,
I had to see Mirabelle.
Kelli (17:27):
I was worried. What was
gonna happen if you didn't get
to see mirror? I was worried, was it? But you know what
Chris (17:31):
you got it. Had to worry,
because I got to see her. Bruno
was there too. He was fine. Hewas also there. I got to see
Mirabelle. And it made thewhole,
Kelli (17:39):
the whole, really did.
And she didn't care that therewas a 50 man almost crying all
by
Chris (17:43):
himself, not with any
family, not with a little kid
with him, all by himself. I gotin line all by myself.
Kelli (17:51):
I mean, it really is. The
characters are everywhere, and
they do take real time with you.
Yes, to talk to you. Was it youthat like Daisy chased down?
Yes.
Chris (18:01):
So I was sitting in,
like, just, you know, in one of
the easy chairs on the level inthe atrium area, yeah, right
about the time that the a lot ofthe characters were about to
come out and get their places.
Yeah. Well, Daisy came out andshe took her place where she was
going to be, but there was noline yet. And so how about DAISY
walks over to me, makes me standshe's like, Can I get a picture
(18:21):
with you? Like, the same thingthat she hears all day, every
day. She basically, her handlersaid she'd like to get a picture
with you. Feel It's okay. Imean, that's how, yeah, that's
how easy it is to get characterpictures. And
Kelli (18:40):
the handlers are great,
too. The handlers take pictures
with their cell phones. And whenI got my picture made with port
Minnie, and I keep calling herport Minnie, I'm telling you,
she's adorable. So I loved her.
Different than Captain Minnie.
No, no, no, very different thanCaptain support Minnie. This is
her outfit that she wears at theport. And so when I got my
picture made with her. Thehandler said, Oh, Minnie, do
(19:03):
that really cute thing wherey'all both grab hands and then
look at the camera.
Chris (19:08):
I love that. How about I
walk by where Captain Minnie was
going to be? You know, receivingpeople, yeah, and the handler
calls up, I'm using air quoteshere, calls up to the ship's
bridge to let to let CaptainMinnie know that her receiving
line is ready. Oh,
Kelli (19:27):
dear God, it's
Chris (19:30):
not come out of character
at all. Please tell Captain
Minnie that her receiving lineis ready. Thank you.
Kelli (19:37):
So fantastic. So
fantastic.
Chris (19:40):
Okay, where that was that
you meet? Okay, so this one's a
kind of a no brainer, but it's,it's in the top 10, okay, yeah,
cast member service, yeah, it'sDisney and it's cruises
generally have amazing service.
Yeah. Okay, so you, if you'regonna be Disney and you're known
(20:02):
for service, you had to go evenfurther, yeah, and they
Kelli (20:09):
nail it. Oh, it's above
and beyond. Our
Chris (20:13):
our stateroom attendant
was so good. And like, yes, you
get the animals with made out oftowels and stuff. But then there
would be, like, he, he wouldarrange hang our stuff. He would
hang stuff up. He would he wouldsay, Oh, I think this clearly,
he would think, I think this issomething important then. So he
(20:35):
would put it in a special placeof prominence in our room, you
know, just taking such specialcare of us. But
Kelli (20:42):
like, also, you know, you
can call from the room to get
Mickey bar sent to you, yes, andthey guess at who it is when you
call. So like, if you call, they'll say, is this Chris and
so when our daughter called, they were like, is this Juliana?
It's just like, it is right. Solike, even the kids can call,
yeah. It was great. And so thenat dinner one night, Pirate
(21:06):
Night, they had the Johnnycakes, which are really like
cornbread, right? The people atour table just kept going on and
on about how much they lovedthem. And so our waiter brought
out an entire basket,
Chris (21:17):
right, right? Just
listening paying attention Yes,
our waiters. We had our so onDisney cruises, you know, you do
rotational dining. And sothere's like three restaurants
that you sort of rotate through, and your wait staff is your wait
staff at all three, they rotatewith you, yeah, regardless of
what the theme is. So we hadMarvel restaurant, we had the
(21:38):
Plaza de cocoa, and then we hadthe 1923 restaurant, and they,
they changed with therestaurant, right? Different
outfits, different outfits, different menu and but, like,
they were so over the top, incredible. Yes, are the sort of
the second waiter, like we hadour head waiter, head waiter,
(21:59):
and then the assistant, theassistant waiter had apparently
taught himself origami. Oh mygod, and started and started
about maybe our third meal.
Started handing out specialorigami creations because we had
two teenage girls. We had twoteenage girls on our table, and
started handing out, but you gotone too, yeah, the last night,
he gave them to all the womenand just Yeah, little touches
(22:20):
like that. And
Kelli (22:23):
well, and one of the the
mom with the other family, went
on and on about how much betterthe ice cream bar is if it has
sprinkles on it. Oh, and so thelast night of the cruise, this
was not on the menu. Y'allright, he went and got her an
ice cream bar and addedsprinkles
Chris (22:40):
like in a ball, right?
Just because that wasn't on themenu, no, just and so we know
that there's, you know, 3000people, or whoever, on this
cruise ship, we dealt with threespecific folks that were
dedicated to us. You know thatif our experience was that
amazing? Yes, everybody's was.
(23:02):
But then when we would run inwith that, deal with the guest
services people are, or the DVC,people that were on board that
everybody was just over the top.
So wonderful, completely, justjust so made it so much worth
it. Number
Kelli (23:16):
five, we are halfway
through lounges. So if you love
the Haunted Mansion, the HauntedMansion Lounge is gonna be right
on up there. We kept calling theother one, Skipper canteen. What
was it called? Skipper society?
We kept calling it Skippercanteen, just because it's got
that's the vibe, same vibe.
(23:38):
Skipper canteen, I think mighthave been my favorite, because
of the vibe society, okay, yeah.
For society, the chairs were themost comfortable. That's where
they did a lot of learn to drawthings. They had this animation
of the map of the cruise shipplaying on the TVs. And just
saying, that sounds ridiculous, but it was an animation that
(24:00):
made the map look like a pop upbook. I could have just sat
there in that lounge watchingthat on loop, yes, and been
thrilled the entire time. Iloved the vibe in Skipper
society, Scat, cat. We went inthere one night live. Pianist,
yep,
Chris (24:19):
yep. And then they had
the periscope pub, which was a
sports bar type place that hadgreat, great eats, great bites.
But I'll tell you, the rose andwe never, we never, really. I
spent one. I spent about 45minutes in there. Okay, waiting
like we had somewhere we weregoing to, right? You were gonna
(24:42):
meet me there, but for whateverhappened? Yeah, I think the
honorable mention got in the wayor something, okay, but, but I
spent about 45 minutes in thatRose lounge. I was severely
underdressed for compared toeverybody else there. Nobody
cares. It's a cruise ship.
That's one of. Nicest, classiestbars, lounges it was ever hung
(25:03):
out in. It was gorgeous. It wasso mind boggling beautiful. And
it goes, it's basically whereyou go and sort of wait once
you've got reservations at Paloor on Shantae, right, which are
the two pay, extra pay, butlike, you know, Triple Diamond,
(25:25):
five star, whatever you want tocall them, restaurants on board
right you go to the rows foryour, you know, your pre dining,
cocktail or whatever. And it wasjust so nice. And everybody
Kelli (25:42):
said we saw this online,
like, Don't sleep on the roads.
It might be the best loungethere. And from a vibe
perspective, yeah, it was themost relaxing. If you want to
sit in a lounge and read a book, that's the place to go. It was
gorgeous. Yeah,
Chris (25:55):
the entryway made it feel
so like you're, oh, you're about
to enter into something nice.
Yes, you know, just Yes, and youdid
Kelli (26:03):
and you did something
nice, yeah, no, the lounges were
fantastic. They were open tokids throughout the day with
different activities, and thenat night, a lot of them became
adult only. And I don't sleep onthose. Highly recommend, yep.
Chris (26:19):
That's right, you had
lounges, yep, before. So here we
go, uh, Castaway Key. So this isDisney's one of Disney's private
islands. I think they've gotlookout Cove or something. Is
there's another one now, yeah, but you know the other we've
done Royal Caribbean cruises, and we've been to their, their
private Coco key or whateverthis is what you want the
(26:43):
private island experience to be.
I think 1,000% i Yes, you know,at least today, they don't have
a an amusement park that you canpay for and go into, but they
just have a series of wonderfulbeaches. And you know, you got,
you got two big, huge, sprawlingbeaches that is open to
(27:06):
everybody, plenty of seating, plenty of seating like I can't
imagine a scenario where theywould, you would have a hard
time finding seats. And then onthose beaches, out in the water
they've got that's where you cango. You're, you know, in your
scuba dive, or your yoursnorkeling adventures, you can
go ride the banana boats or orparasail or whatever. But then
(27:29):
they also have amusement like, what do you call like,
Kelli (27:36):
yeah, like, like, JUNGLE,
JUNGLE,
Chris (27:39):
out on the water. Out on
the water. Yeah, that's a good
way to say it. But then they'vealso got a private beach for
adults only, serenity, K orwhatever. And then scattered
throughout all that is all thefood you got the buffet
stations, which is huge, huge, but delicious, easily accessible
from, from wherever you arewherever you decide to pop, you
(28:02):
know, pop a squat on the beach.
It's, it's so close to the food.
They've got a bar out there thatjust served, yeah, the coconut
type drink the pina colada. Ohyeah. They serve it in the we
bought the coconut and orindoor, the bamboo zipper. You
know, that was so good. It just,it was so relaxing. It was just
(28:25):
such a nice it's not a far walk, but if you don't want to walk,
they've got a tram that takesyou from, but
Kelli (28:31):
it wasn't a far wall. It
wasn't a very far walk at all. I
would just say, like from aprivate island experience,
comparing it to Royal Caribbean,it was 1000 times better,
Chris (28:41):
but mainly because it was
so chill. It was
Kelli (28:45):
open, like you said, tons
of, tons of beaches, tons of
seating. The food was plentifuland everywhere, like you didn't
have to worry about, oh, it'sgonna be a long line at the
buffet, right? Yes. Well, thisis the first beach everybody's
gonna stop here, and all theseats will be gone. Like, none
of that, none
Chris (29:01):
of that. That's right.
And another note about theprivate island, castway key, the
merchandise on that island mightbe better than on the
Kelli (29:11):
boat. Oh my gosh, ship,
ship. It was amazing. It was
really good, really good stuff.
I like the T shirts. Yeah, theyare almost better than I did on
Chris (29:22):
so good and it just the
towel. Everything just was so
well done on the private island.
Kelli (29:29):
Top marks there for that.
They did a really great job withthat number three food, food.
Chris (29:36):
Can you believe? I mean,
obviously it was going to be in
our top
Kelli (29:39):
three, at least, of
course, it was. So, of course,
all the restaurants arefantastic, right? And you've got
a different menu every night. Itrotates. So when you're eating
at Plaza de coco, you're eating, you know, Mexican style meals
when you're eating at world ofMarvel, I felt like it was more
like upscale meals, like that'swhere we had filet and things
like that. And then. Joy Disneyfelt like the Brown Derby,
(30:02):
right? Yeah, that's right, yeah.
So, I mean, I think you andyou've got your lobster and
steak night, you know, just likeregular, you know, I'm
vegetarian, and our waitresswould tell me, regularly. Miss
Kelli, this is the one you want, right? This is the one you want,
like, because they've also eatenall the dishes, and so they know
what they taste like. And sothere was a ratatouille one
(30:25):
night, and also a risotto. Thiswas in the Roy Disney and I was
like, I really want the risotto.
I love risotto. And she's like,Miss Kelli, I will bring you a
bowl of risotto, if you will.
Order the ratatouille, yeah,because
Chris (30:40):
it's also a cruise ship,
so you can, you can order, you
could have ordered that anyway, you know, but she's
Kelli (30:45):
like, order the
ratatouille, and I will still
bring you the risotto. And itwas amazing. I mean, it was the
ratatouille was in a puffpastry. No, I can't even, I
can't even, like, it was, it wastoo much. Every meal I had blew
me away. Yeah, the vegetarianoptions were out of this world.
There was one night where ourdaughter ordered, she got, like,
(31:07):
oysters, Rockefeller, right, right. I mean, so great
appetizers. I got a saladcourse. Almost every night
Chris (31:15):
she got a, like, a poke
and avocado bowl. Oh, she
Kelli (31:19):
did yes as an appetizer.
Chris (31:21):
Yes. Off The Charts,
she's a pretty adventurous
eater, so that she is
Kelli (31:25):
no she'll eat just about
anything. And she was there for
all the seafood and everything, but when she saw oysters as an
appetizer at Plaza de coco, allon it, all on it. And so that
was great. I mean, amazingdesserts, different themes,
again, every night with thedesserts, trace, leches, cake,
positive cocoa.
Chris (31:46):
That was over the top.
You know, I like,
Kelli (31:49):
we didn't miss dinner a
single night. There was not a
single night where we thought, let's just skip dinner and not
go. No, no. We were like, I'mgoing,
Chris (31:56):
you know? And we also, I
know that the meals are even a
step up at Palo or on some Yes,I want to do that the next time.
We absolutely, but I don't feellike I missed out on anything by
by eating. Just saying, you can
Kelli (32:10):
also, by the way, do
brunch at Palo. We recommended
that. They recommended that, yes, but yeah, that like I
didn't. We didn't miss a singlemeal, right? So, so good. And
that was just in the main sitdown restaurants, right? Like
the food around the pool. Oh,also,
Chris (32:30):
by and large, most people
will tell you that Donald's
cantina, where it's like a it'slike a Chipotle style, like
burrito, that might be the bestthing on the whole ship. Donald
had a line the entire time. Howabout Mickey's smokehouse, where
you can get guys everything fromribs, pulled pork, brisket or
sauce, jalapeno mac and cheese.
Jalapeno mac and cheese withcorn bread and baked beans, I
(32:52):
mean. And it had a line too. Andit always had a lot and they
were carving that, like off ofroast beast, I know, carving the
right. And then you've got thegrill with the with the with the
burgers and dogs, bratwurst andchicken fingers. And what was
funny was that that one, if ithad a line, they they would
(33:13):
like, they open up this littleside window that was said, if
you're here for just chickenfingers and fries. Come over
here. I'll give you just that, because
Kelli (33:24):
they were making the
burgers to making the burgers to
order. I got, you know, vegetarian burgers through
there. You know, I want acheeseburger. Can I get extra
fries? Can I get a little bitmore fries, right? Can I also
get some slaw? Of course, theyhad slaw and potato salad and
all of that there with it, too.
And this
Chris (33:40):
is all right out by the
pool. They also, they also had a
pizza stand where you get pizzaby the slices,
Kelli (33:44):
stand by the slice. They
also had soft serve ice cream
and not, this is what I liked.
Okay, I'm gonna say this. Thisis what I liked about all the
buffet stuff. Okay, this goesfor the main buffet area, also
all of the areas around the pooland the soft serve. I don't like
buffets like y'all know thatabout me, right? I don't like
(34:05):
people touching the samesilverware I'm touching to grab
my food. I do not like it justgerms galore. So what they've
done is basically madeeverything touch free, right? So
there are cast members behindall the buffets and everything's
behind glass, and they hand itto you. Same thing at poolside,
(34:26):
same thing with the same withthing with breakfast and same
thing with the soft serve.
You're not making your own softserve. Cast members are getting
that for you. So it is a muchmore sanitary way to do a
buffet. And I never once feltlike, you know, somebody had
(34:49):
just sneezed on the mac andcheese. You know what? I mean?
Like, I all it felt, everythingfelt so clean and sanitary
intentionally, sure, and
Chris (34:57):
I mean, and we haven't,
we didn't talk about breakfast.
So. Only at all. But I mean overthe top, that muesli. I know
you've been talking about themuesli. You changed your whole
morning routine here for youstarted eating overnight oats
just because of the
Kelli (35:11):
muesli. I love that
muesli so much. And so once I
found it, like every day, Iwould go right up to that
counter and I'd be like, I wanttwo mueslis. I only need one
spoon every single morning likethat was
Chris (35:23):
the next, last morning.
You're like, I'm gonna dosomething other than you, see,
and I found you out there whenyou play
Kelli (35:31):
gas like yourself. I love
those that muesli. I liked
Chris (35:35):
everything. I got there
too. Every morning, every
morning
Kelli (35:37):
Made to Order omelets.
They had Benedicts. They had thekids counter. I mean, had a line
of adults at it every morning, because
Chris (35:45):
that's where the churro
waffles, Mickey waffles for the
Mickey officer, the thing. Andthen one morning, our table
mate, she said, she says, youknow, tomorrow morning, I think
they're gonna
Kelli (35:57):
have the church last
morning, and it was alive. And
I'm telling you like too, sowith the with the waffles and
the pancakes. So I would get theMickey waffles, I'd get the
chocolate chip pancakes, theblueberry pancakes, the plain
pancakes, the muesli, like itwas just oh, it was heaven. And
so they've got whipped cream, syrup and a strawberry compost
(36:19):
that you can get with thewaffles and the pancakes. And
I'm telling you, it was a dream.
I mean, there were rarelychildren at that counter.
There's almost always,
Chris (36:28):
if there is something
that measures excitement and
sentiment of this podcast, itjust spiked for item number
three. People are gonna wonderwhy this is item number
Kelli (36:37):
three, the food's
amazing. It's amazing. It's
everything. Everybody says itis, it is everything you would
expect from Disney, plus 1,000%the food was so good. Okay,
Chris (36:49):
number two. Number two,
the Broadway style show, oh my
goodness. So they wait for thelast two nights to do these.
There are shows and eventsthroughout your time on board
serabi. By the way, we don'thave that on our list. That
should be another honorablemention. They've got shows in
surabi all the time, and that isa wonderful
Kelli (37:12):
spot. Really cool, really
cool area there.
Chris (37:16):
But on this particular
show cruise, they had Beauty and
the Beast Broadway style show, and the last night they had
Moana. And Moana was developedfor the Disney treasure, the
only place right now you can seethat show. And people, I was
(37:37):
super skeptical of these becauseone the beauty and the be show
was like an hour. Well, the themovies an hour and a half or,
you know, so how are they gonnado this and and same thing for
my one mom was actually a littlebit shorter than the Beauty and
the Beast shows, yeah, and I, itis hard to describe the
(37:59):
creativity that goes along withhow they were able to tell these
stories, the talent they have onstage, oh my gosh, the same
people that did Beauty and theBeast on one night were doing
Moana the next night, right? Thelady that played Mrs. Potts,
Mrs. Potts, grandma, Tala,
Kelli (38:19):
like yes, but we saw
Moana go from two years old
right in front. I know,
Chris (38:30):
I know how they did two
years old to seven years old,
right? Was a puppet the most. Imean, it was a puppet that
looked exactly like that LittleBaby
Kelli (38:40):
Moana, oh, my goodness,
so good, so good. So
Chris (38:44):
I know, but they turned
seven year old Moana into a
teenager Moana right the frontof our face. And I have no clue
how that happened, and I don'tknow how they did to feed it,
either. And so then to feed itand take a right is all a flame.
Is a big, huge flaming,
Kelli (39:02):
yeah, yeah. Because she's
moving, she's moving,
Chris (39:05):
moving all around the
stage. Throws fireballs. She's
huge and and then they turn herinto TAFE. The grass
Kelli (39:14):
grew right before our
very eyes.
Chris (39:15):
I just people the stage
stay remarkable, so creative.
This is the same stage of thenight before they were playing
Beauty and the Beast. And youlegitimately got the sense that
bell was running through afield, yeah, you know, singing,
you know, yeah. Like
Kelli (39:35):
the back of the stage is
all screens. So the sides in the
back of the stage, or screens.
So, like, TV screens, like big, huge screens, like, so they're
running
Chris (39:47):
change that she's running
to a forest.
Kelli (39:50):
But also, like, it's not
like with a Broadway show where
they're pushing things in andout. I mean, they are moving
some big set pieces, but the themajority of the set changes.
Very easily with animations andgraphics and
Chris (40:04):
lasers and light shows
they had and
Kelli (40:06):
bubbles. But
Chris (40:08):
like they have, they had,
you know, grandma tala as a you
knew when she was about here, because her, her, her Manta Ray
would swim around the walls ofthe theater, and you knew, Oh,
then she shows up on stage. Yes,it just it
Kelli (40:25):
snowed in Beauty and the
Beast. There were bubbles with
the champagne when it popped, like, I mean, just, it was an
immersive show like only Disneydoes, right? I
Chris (40:38):
mean, it legitimately
Broadway quality casting and and
just blows, there's a band on ontheir played, sort of what the
videotronics or something likethat. I can't remember what they
called the band, but they theyplayed in the atrium every
night. Well, they were also inthese productions, right? The
musicians so good. They were alljust so good.
Kelli (41:00):
And I was looking for,
like, the the people who sang in
Coco, because that was like afull on mariachi show every
night. Yeah, to see if, to seeif they were also in the
Broadway play
Chris (41:10):
exactly, exactly. It was
just
Kelli (41:13):
the talent, the talent so
Chris (41:16):
good, and not just the on
stage time, but whoever
creatively designs the sets andthe special effects and
everything. Just top marks.
Kelli (41:24):
Brilliant, very well
done. Do not miss the Broadway
shows. Yeah, okay, number one.
Number one, absolute number one.
Speak to this one. Y'all thespa. Let
Chris (41:35):
me tell you we're doing
the top 10. And I'm like, I
wonder what, which, how weshould number these top 10s. And
Kelli says the spa is numberone, but okay, I'm thinking to
myself, well, I didn't do thespa, but Okay, number one. Spot
number one. Okay.
Kelli (41:52):
So two things. First of
all, if you're getting a service
at the spa, that's awesome. Goenjoy your service. That's
fantastic. But you can also buya day pass to what they call the
rainforest room. So basically, you can enjoy the spa without
actually getting a service. AndI think a day pass was about 70
something dollars. So there wasone day I was there and I got a
(42:15):
service, and then another day Iwent to the rainforest room. So
when you go in and get theservice. I mean, everything's
amazing, the lounge area, thelocker room area, all of that.
Again, I'm a germaphobe, and soI'm not always a big fan of, you
(42:35):
know, stall showers and stallrestrooms. So here's what I'll
say. Y'all know that I have veryhigh standards for restrooms.
All of the restrooms in thewhole entire ship have floor to
ceiling doors. You're there eachthey have their own rooms,
right? Okay, so that's the wayit ought to be. Period, hard
stop. All bathrooms should bemade that way. All right, so
(42:58):
let's just get past that. In thespa area. The showers also have
floor to ceiling doors, so whenyou go in, you close and lock
that door behind you. You've gotyour own bench where you can set
down your towel and your clothesand whatever, and you know, so
it stays dry. And then thismassive walk in shower area that
(43:20):
is so huge and so lovely andfilled with all of these spa
like shampoo and conditioner andlotions and all of that. Like, I
just didn't want to leave theshower. It was, it was that
lovely. It was so so verylovely. So naturally, the
service was fantastic, right? Anamazing, amazing massage. So
(43:42):
what I will say is a lot oftimes when you go on cruise
ships, you get a massage, andthen they they get you basically
in this post massage state whereyou can't make a decent
decision, and they sell you $250worth of products. That doesn't
happen on a Disney cruise. So myspa person said at the end of
(44:04):
it, she was like, Do you want toknow more about any of the
products I use on you today?
Would you like to take any ofthem home? And I said, No, I
think I'm good. And she said,Okay, excellent. Then let's walk
right up front. Right that wasit. That's that was the end of
it, which was fantastic. Now therainforest room. Let's go there.
So you walk into the rainforestarea, this is a special pass, so
(44:26):
if you're getting a massage, youdon't automatically get access
to the rainforest room. Thoseare two different things. So you
go into the rainforest area, andthere are these heated lounge
beds that are just lovely. Iread a book, took a nap all the
above. Then there's this areathat's like a swing, and at the
(44:48):
at the base of the swing, likewhere your feet would be,
there's about two inches ofwater, so that as you're
swinging, you're just likekicking water. Silently in that
same room, they have these big, open shower areas with like,
different speeds andtemperatures of water. So you're
(45:08):
supposed to go through theserooms and these shower areas
like in a specific course, right? So they had one room that
was cold, one room that's hot,one shower with hard pressure,
one shower with soft pressure.
And so, like all the watertemperatures are different, all
(45:29):
the room temperatures aredifferent. And so you can
literally just move through thisroom as slow as you would like
to at whatever speed you desire, and you're gonna love every
ounce of it. Then you realizethere's an outdoor area, and you
just die because you walkoutside and you see these huge,
(45:54):
big beds, these circular bedsthat are swings, and they're all
shaded, and so you see thesehuge beds, people just lounging
on them. One lady had herlaptop, which I thought was a
bad decision, but maybe she'swriting a book or whatever. I
don't know, no judgment, butdon't work there. Okay, you
(46:15):
better nap. You better readwhatever I read, I napped, I did
both, and I killed it. Iabsolutely killed it. There's
also two hot tubs back there. Soagain, I am I don't do well in
the sun, the fact that there wasall shaded and cool, it was the
(46:35):
best decision I made on the shipto buy the pass for the
rainforest room. It was truly, truly lovely. And I can't say
enough about that spa area. Iwill say the only spa that I've
ever been to in my life thatbeats it is the spot of Lonnie.
(46:58):
That is the only one. It's theonly and it's purely a space
situation. Just because you'vegot more space at Aulani, they
could do more things. But thiswas beyond my wildest
imagination and completely mindblowing. And you had a shave at
(47:19):
the hookery Barbie. I messedthat name up. He
Chris (47:22):
did, but Barbary, not the
hookery Barbie. That's a whole
different thing. That's adifferent thing, the hook
Barbary, yes, yes, I did. I hada I had a whole facial and a
shave and everything. And I
Kelli (47:38):
went in there. I was
gonna watch and take pictures.
And once he got you laid back inthat chair, it felt it felt
wrong for me to be there. Felt
Chris (47:47):
like you were intruding.
It felt
Kelli (47:50):
very wrong. And so I left
very quiet.
Chris (47:53):
They also served me the
greatest old fashion I've ever
had in my life, there at thehook bar, the hook bar, at the
hookery,
Kelli (47:59):
Barbie, hooker Barbie.
They also did pedicures. There.
They had pedicure chairs.
Chris (48:04):
You know, you got your
appointments there through the
same spa number you would go getit was
Kelli (48:10):
lovely. Was absolutely
lovely. And you went on and on
about that facial. So much thatthe people we had dinner with
yes bought the husband a shaveYes, for his birthday, while we
were on the show,
Chris (48:25):
I've only shaved one time
since we got back from the
cruise. Oh my goodness.
Kelli (48:30):
Okay, so that's our top
10. Yep, number one by far at
the spa. I've got an honorablemention. So on deck eight is the
most lovely laundry facilityyou've ever seen. And I know
that sounds stupid, but it'sfantastic. There must have been
50 washer dryers in there. Alsotons of ironing boards where you
(48:54):
could fold down and iron things.
It was the most enjoyablelaundry I've ever
Chris (49:00):
had, including our own
house, our own house.
Kelli (49:03):
It was the most enjoyable
laundry experience I've ever
had. And so here's what happens.
Is you have to use your key cardto activate a washer. This isn't
free. You're paying to use them, but I mean, it's washer dryer.
It's
Chris (49:16):
a lot cheaper than using
the the laundry services. So I
bought the tide
Kelli (49:20):
and the tide and the
snuggle there from the vending
machine, and then I used the keycard to activate the washer in
the dryer. And so what happensis it immediately links it to
your account. So you're out andabout on the ship. Your clothes
are in the washer, the dryer, whatever, and you get a push
notification, Hey, your clothesand washer number 25 are done.
(49:41):
And that was just so, really, very helpful. Yeah, I loved
that. And I'm accustomed to hereat our dryer needing to run
multiple cycles. Yeah, sure, this thing would dry a full load
in, like, 35 minutes. And I'd goin there and I'd be like,
there's I'm gonna have to payagain. And to run this again,
(50:01):
nope, they were perfectly dryand smelled, you know, minty
fresh. I'm like, I can't sayenough about that fairy tale
laundry area. What's a fairytale laundry? It'll
Chris (50:14):
change the way we do
packing next time.
Kelli (50:17):
Oh, it will absolutely
change what we do packing. But
I'm telling you right now, like,I seriously considered, like,
you should open up this kind oflaundromat in town, like, that
would be a fantastic, abeautiful experience, right?
Like, I would, I think I wouldrather do my laundry at
something like that here in townthan in our own house. Like, How
(50:38):
ridiculous is that?
Chris (50:40):
It's not, I mean, we have
to get under that, you know,
basement, to do our laundry.
Kelli (50:44):
So it was a lovely
laundry experience.
Chris (50:50):
You know what? You should
do my laundry all the time. No,
Kelli (50:54):
I don't do that. Sorry,
honey. You did not marry June
Cleaver. I hate that for you,
Chris (51:00):
but it's just a really
nice laundry experience on the
ship. It
Kelli (51:03):
really was so honorable
mention to the fairy tale
laundry don't over pack. Youcould absolutely do multiple
loads we did, and when I spilledmy chai latte all over myself at
the Jade cricket cafe, I justwent ahead and did another load.
Chris (51:19):
All right, folks,
Kelli (51:21):
that's it for our first
top 10 list. And we hope you
loved it. We
Chris (51:28):
hope you loved it. If you
did love it, you know what to
do. Run out to where you getyour podcasts, and somewhere on
