So why do we need a plan?
Emergencies can strike at anytime and often without warning,
from hurricanes and earthquakesto house fires and power outages

An emergency plan ensures thatevery family member knows what
to do.
Plan ensures that every familymember knows what to do, where
to go and how to stay safe.
But what makes a good emergencyplan?

It should be comprehensive,easy to understand and regularly
updated.
The goal is to minimizeconfusion and maximize safety
when an emergency arises.
The first step in creating anemergency plan is to assess the
risk specific to your area.
Different regions facedifferent threats.
If you live in California, youmight prioritize earthquake

preparedness.
In Florida, hurricanes may beyour main concern.
Make a list of the potentialemergencies that could affect
your area.
Don't forget to considersmaller-scale incidents like
house fires, which can happenanywhere.
Understanding these risks willhelp you tailor your emergency

plan to address the most likelyscenarios.
So let's talk about developingyour plan.
First step is to create acommunication strategy, and here
we want to establish how youwill communicate during an
emergency.
You should designate a familymember outside your media area

as a contact person.
This helps if localcommunications are down and the
rest of the family is separatedand the rest of the family is

Ensure everyone knows how totext, as SMS can often get
through when calls can't.
Designate meeting places.
Choose two meeting places, onenear your home and another

popular evacuation routes willbecome backed up and lessen your
chances of being able toevacuate or cause delays in your

contacts Create a list ofemergency contacts including
local authorities, doctors andschools, and this should also
include the number for yourdesignated person outside your
immediate area, and ensure thatevery family member has a copy

each family member who willgrab the emergency kit?
Who will take care of the pets?
Clear roles prevent chaos.

and plastic ties, local maps andpersonal items such as copies
of important documents, cash,family and emergency contact

it matters most.
Conduct family drills at leasttwice a year.
Review and update your plan ona regular basis, especially
