Back when I started my hairstyling career, I had to start all over. I had been working a corporate job, but my boss could see my passion for hair with the different styles I would come in with every day.  I wrote out a plan, a timeline, a list of what the school needed to look like, all of it - and I made it happen.

Every time I write out something with clarity and intention, it comes to me - even if it's not quite what I actually want.

That's my challenge for you. What do you want? Write it out in as much detail as you can!

Patrice B (00:41):
Welcome back guys to the most randomest podcast ever.
I'm so happy to be here with youguys this week.
I wanted to share with you.
a technique that I have beendoing and I have done over the
span of my life and especiallyonce I discovered it, it really
has been helping me get someclarity on my thoughts because

(01:05):
anybody who knows me, I amrandom as hell.
I'm so random.
I'm a random in real life, but.
I always have so many thoughtsin my head that I need to share
with people or things that Iwant to teach and it's always
super crazy.
But back when I started my hairstyling career, I had to start

(01:30):
all over.
Like, I went to a high school, Istarted doing hair there, I
tried doing an apprenticeship, that didn't work.
And then it was like, how do Iget to this license?
So I was working in a job whereit was super conservative, I'm
surrounded by men, and it's,it's conservative.
And I would come in withdifferent hairstyles, right?

(01:50):
And my boss at the time used tobe like, you can't have that.
And It's like, hey, you got tochange it.
I will come in the next day withsomething new, something
different.
And he asked me, when are yougoing to go back to doing hair?
And not to necessarily get meoff the job, because I was
really good at what I was doing, but he clearly was seeing that,
hey girl, your passion is back.

(02:13):
What are you going to do toreally fuel that passion is what
I got from it I didn't sayanything to him, but I went home
that day and I had decided I'mgonna make a plan That day I
wrote down A plan, verystrategic of how I was going to,

(02:35):
I gave myself a time frame tofind a school.
I wrote down what that schoolwould possess, what would it
feel like, what did I want fromthat school.
timeline of finding it,entering.
Finishing and what were somefuture goals with that?
Like, what would I want to getout of this next chapter?

(02:59):
Fast forward to now, when Ithink about the times that I
have done that in my life andI've taken that time to write it
out of what that looks like.
What did I want it to feel likewhen I needed to transition into
something new?
Because I do feel like this is atransition year for me.

(03:22):
And it's like what, what is thatgoing to be like?
Y'all when I tell you everythingthat I had wrote down came to
fruition.
It's like I put the pen down andthe universe listened.
I found a school.
It gave me exactly what Ineeded.
I even finished it in the timeframe.

(03:43):
But I realized it was the energybehind it.
I really, really wanted it.
at some point last year, I wrotedown what I, because anybody who
knows me too, I am also single.
and I don't consider myselflooking, but I consider myself
open to the possibilitiesbecause I'm never really in a
full search, but I'm open and Iwrote down exactly what I want.

(04:08):
I want that person to be like,y'all, let something when you
write it down, you're specificbecause I was so specific that I
started to meet people whopossessed all of these
qualities.
I left one thing.
Out of my damn list and that wassingle so I had to go back and I

(04:28):
added that to the list of whatwould that feel like when I'm
with that person all of that butI needed to make sure that I had
a single because they were takenbut they possessed the qualities
that I was looking for and I waslike hmm you So in this last
little chapter that I've beenin, and not the last chapter,
but the next chapter, I was justlike, what am I doing?

(04:52):
What's next?
I have been knocking down goalsleft and right and accomplishing
so many things and comingoutside of my box and comfort
zone.
Just for me to be here with youguys is coming outside of my
box.
It's like, dang girl, what'snext?
And so, things that have workedfor me.
And I tell people this all thetime is, write it down, write

(05:17):
how you'll feel with it.
Take your time.
Some things you can put intotime frame, some things you just
need to let the universe, God,your higher power, whoever
guides you, even if it is justyou to really, really hear you
and what you want.
I encourage you to.

(05:38):
Take the time and really thinkabout what it is that you may
want.
Write it down.
Be it a man, your wife, ahusband.
Girlfriend, boyfriend, job.
What would that next job looklike, feel like?
I just gave that suggestion to afriend who was possibly wanting

(06:01):
to, do something different.
Now, mind you, before she wasjust like, Hey, I'm okay with my
job.
I'm comfortable here.
I ain't thinking about moving.
thought that she may wantsomething different now was
like, go girl.
I'm excited for her.
And I gave her the suggestion ofwhat would that next job feel
like?

(06:21):
Because in reality, she doesn'tknow what she wants to do, but
she knows she wants to dosomething different.
And so try it.
You'll be amazed at what yourmind focuses on and where it
takes you.
Because there's nothing likeseeing what you write down for

(06:45):
yourself come true.
Ain't nothing like that.
I, and when I now think aboutwhat I wrote down and when I go
back and look at it from 20 plusyears ago in this industry.
I am literally living the dream, but now I got to edit the list.
What else am I add to it?

(07:06):
And it's forever evolving.
It is forever changing.
So this week I encourage you tosee it, feel it and write it.
Whatever you want, go for it.
Whoever you want, go for it.
The job you want.
Go for it.
You guys got this.

(07:28):
I believe in you.
It is something that has workedfor me throughout my life.
And I just wanted to share thatwith you guys this week.
Cause y'all know I'm random.
But next week, I'm definitelytaking y'all back into the salon
because we got some things totalk about.
What is going on between thesebarbershops and salons y'all?
I just don't know.

(07:48):
But I got some suggestions andpointers of how to find.
A salon that's best for you.
So it won't be so random.
I won't be on my, my therapystuff.
We taking it back to the teabecause y'all need the tea, the
tacos or the tequila because thetherapy sessions, they'll
return.
But next week we taking it tothe salon as always, I know you

(08:10):
guys got options, but you choseto spend your time with me and I
am grateful until next time.
Talk to you soon.
