In our conclusion to our first ever Brapril Dennehypril, we finally get a movie that features the man of the hour in a lead role! In Broad Daylight is based on the true story of Ken McElroy (played here by Brian Dennehy, with the character renamed to Len Rowan), who was, to put it lightly, a local menace. Indicted for a wide assortment of crimes, from burglary and assault to arson and statutory rape, but was able to weasel his way out of any convictions through intimidation. However, in 1981, after shooting a grocery clerk he was feuding with, he was convicted of attempted murder. While appealing the conviction, he was released from jail on bond and continued his harassment campaign against the whole town. It was at this point, the town took the law into their own hands and killed him.... In Broad Daylight.
